Attention to Detail

Attention to detail is on a 1 - 10 scale, and is scored based on the rate, and severity, of errors committed by the clinic according to the patients.

For example, a severe error might be failing to inform a patient of critical information, while a small error might be failing to call a patient with results.

CDC Success Rates

This is the most recent data from the CDC. The CDC cautions that it should not be used to compare doctors and clinics. This data represents the outcomes of IVF cycles when using a person's own eggs.

For more information please see our FAQs.

Where you see a “?” on the chart, a clinic has done fewer than 20 cycles in this category and age range, so the CDC says showing percentages from this small data set would be misleading and unreliable.

Dr. Smeltzer was very professional, empathetic, and provided great realistic feedback. She was listened to our concerns and explain the process in a way that was understandable. My experience with Dr. Smeltzer was excellent and I would recommend any other person who is interested in IVF to go to this practice
Strengths [of ACRM]: wait less than 15 mins to be seen. Staff attitude was pleasant. The facility extremely clean and sterile. Check in via cellphone. Safety was at the top of their list. No weakness I could gather regarding my experience with the practice...Nursing staff was very pleasant and kind. The nurses answered all questions. Also, their response time to question via email was very quick

Dr. Carpenter was very knowledgeable and kind. I had had an historectomy in 2012 so she explained that it wasn’t a certainty that I would still be ovulating but that we would check. Luckily I was an my eggs did mature. Giving me a total of 14 eggs. I appreciated how she explained things to me and that she was honest with me throughout the procedure...I was put on a higher dosage of the fertility drugs because of my history of a hysterectomy
The clinic [at ACRM] is organized and clean. It is fully equipped. I didn’t have to go anywhere else. Everything was done at the same location. I would rate it as excellent. The check in process is painless and the front desk staff are nice...The nurses are always available. They get back to you right away and they are very good at responding to email

I would recommend Dr. Toner to ANYONE. His bed side manner is phenomenal and through the hills and valleys he has been there to answer all questions. He feels like a part of our family at this point. ... After our miscarriage, Dr. Toner prayed with us, followed up daily, and shared our pain during such a difficult time. He has made us feel that he is just as invested in our success as we are.
The team [Atlanta Center for Reproductive Medicine] is on the front end of new treatments, which I really appreciate. I feel like we have a say in our treatment, with his education to guide us in the right direction. The team hears my concerns and addresses them to the best of their ability. ... They forgot to call in my letrozole, but after a one call reminder I had it called in within the appropriate time.

I think a strength of Dr. Denis is that he can easily talk to couples/individuals. He asked us questions about ourselves before he jumped straight into the infertility rabbit hole. He was very personable in that way.... We were told IVF is our only option and that any other route would be a waste of time and money.... It felt more like a really good sales pitch and not what was in our best interest as a couple.... We scheduled a visit and when we showed up they said we weren’t on their appointment list for the day
One time we showed up and they didn’t have us on schedule even though we spoke we the coordinator. They quickly fit us in! The facility [ACRM] is very nice and clean. The entire staff is great! Easy to talk to and so helpful. I’ve met 2 of the doctors so far and they definitely go out of their way to make you feel comfortable.... The staff at ACRM are amazing. So kind and compassionate.... Also, we had conflicting information about when certain results would be available to us.

Dr. Fogel was always present and helpful in every meeting. I never felt rushed and she answered all my million questions...She is so kind and caring. She answered all our questions and always made us feel comfortable with the next steps. Explained our plan to us and even when we had a negative result she gave us hope.
We have done multiple cycles and will now have multiple children from ACRM...Each time we had a diffrent nursing staff and they have all been excellent..We have only had a pleasant experience here. I do not have one negative thing to say about ACRM. I highly recommend them all the time...I don't remember exact cost but they were always explained to us clearly ahead of time.

I love Dr. Fogle but really dislike the office and staff [at ACRM]. They are always so busy. It feels like you're just a number when you're there. You move from waiting room to the next waiting room. I'm usually there for over 2 hours but only physically see someone that works there for 30 minutes. There's alot of wasted time. The initial waiting room wait is over 30 minutes then the nurse waiting room is about another 20 minutes then the payable waiting room is another 20 minutes. I really want to go somewhere else but we love Dr. Fogle. I really can't stand her office though.

She explained the process and was honest about possible results.... Very informative, honest, and caring. I had blocked tubes and slight PCOS, and she was very empathetic. When she [Dr. Carpenter] explained everything and told us the price, we almost died of shock. I asked advice about traveling for cheaper treatments. She was not trying to steer us away from that option, but did warn of complications and worries about traveling. Ultimately, we saved money and went woth acrm!
The receptionist staff Answer emails efficiently. The scheduler schedules appointments efficiently. Each location [ACRM] has a very nice staff. Each staff has nice and clean facilities. Each appointment was organized and staff was helpful in telling patients where to go for what procedure.... 15,000 for retrieval and fresh transfer 5,000 for meds... Dr. Calhoun was always picky when doing procedures to increase our chances of getting the best possible results. She was happy to explain things as many times as we needed.Dr. Calhoun is a perfect combination of warm support and blunt facts. She made us feel like we were her only patient, and was always picky when doing procedures to increase our chances of getting the best possible results.

She made us feel like we were her only patient, and was always picky when doing procedures to increase our chances of getting the best possible results. She was happy to explain things as many times as we needed. Once we were pregnant and far enough along to not need to be followed by Dr. Calhoun anymore, I was a bit sad because working with her was wonderful. Dr. Hasty was easy to talk to about all of our concerns - medical, financial, and emotional. She would talk to us using medical terms about our issues and concerns and listen as we would make sure we understood it in our layman terms. Dr. Hasty was honest and direct, yet encouraging.
Both nurses were readily available to me by phone and email (which worked best for me). I could ask a million different questions or the same question a million times and always be treated as intelligent and with respect. They were both patient and compassionate and extremely knowledgeable.
How was your experience with Lisa Hasty at ACRM?
Dr. Hasty was easy to talk to about all of our concerns - medical, financial, and emotional. She would talk to us using medical terms about our issues and concerns and listen as we would make sure we understood it in our layman terms. Dr. Hasty was honest and direct, yet encouraging. I felt she cared more about us as people than about how our success would benefit ACRM's success rate.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Lisa Hasty at ACRM?

During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Lisa Hasty at ACRM?
I was often treated by the same staff. They knew me and created relationships with me. Everyone was compassionate and always had time to talk to me and answer any questions. It was not a quick in and out appointment unless I wanted it to be that way.
Describe your experience with your nurse at ACRM. (Assigned nurse: Melissa Bauer for IVF and Mirrin Reagan for egg donor)
Both nurses were readily available to me by phone and email (which worked best for me). I could ask a million different questions or the same question a million times and always be treated as intelligent and with respect. They were both patient and compassionate and extremely knowledgeable.

We considered going with another practice but we like and appreciate doctor Fogle so we decided to stay... is very smart, resourceful and creative. She is straightforward with us and very good in explaining what IVF means for us. Caring, compassionate, and personal. Responds to my emails instantly, and remembers her patients by first name (which is very important to me). I only wish I saw her more frequently during my visits.
I have not had to good experience [with the nurses at ACRM] due to lack of consistency, caused me to spend more money on medications that were not used, rarely responded to my emails/calls in timely manner, created a lot of anxiety for me...the clinic treated me as a number the doctor [Dr. Fogle] treated us way more personal...We considered going with another practice but we like and appreciate doctor Fogle so we decided to stay with ACRM. I wish she had her own fertility clinic and provide the top notch care that she has for us

She is extremely warm and kind. I feel like the truly cares. She’s very reassuring and put me at ease.... I am a very new patient in the very beginning of treatment. However, I feel very good about Dr. Calhoun. She is so kind, but very professional. I know her practice is very successful because of the way they treat their patients.... We started with a full blood/hormone panel, day 3 ultra-sound, an HSG and semenalyis. Next we meet for a second consult to discuss the next phase.

Describe Robin Fogle's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at ACRM.
My doctor and this clinic will only do single embryo transfer. I would prefer multiple as that increases that odds that an embryo will survive, but I also understand the risks associated with the chance that all the embryos implant and survive. It's such a catch-22.

Dr. Hasty is an incredible physician. She always took her time when she met with me or both my husband and me. She was kind and we felt like she truly cared about our pregnancy journey. She answered all of our questions and helped us work through moral/ethical questions about IVF, and in general was very helpful.... We really wanted to transfer two embryos even though my age did not make that a necessity. After listening to our desires (and reasoning) Dr. Hasty agreed to transfer 2. We appreciated her treating us as our own case rather than using protocols that we did not want.

[Dr. Sue Ellen Carpenter's] Style is very delicate...multiple ultrasound, lab etc without clear cut information and finally started IVF. One day, they just called and asked to stop taking more medication without the reason why. We decided to stop consulting her, felt the pace is really slow and this can be dragged on to years...You will feel like the treatment is being dragged without solid information...We would like to see more aggressive style, with clear cut future of the treatment. Setbacks can be told on the face if any without all the numbered lab visits.

How was your experience with Sue Ellen Carpenter at ACRM?
I wouldn't recommend Dr. Sue to anyone, treatment style is cold fish, dragged on without affirmative information. We would like to see more aggressive style, with clear cut future of the treatment. Setbacks can be told on the face if any without all the numbered lab visits.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Sue Ellen Carpenter at ACRM?
Please consult someone else with higher rating if your case is even if a little complicated. You will never get them in a call, and will feel like number.

Describe the costs associated with your care under Sue Ellen Carpenter at ACRM.
My plan is Cigna HDHP, out of pocket max 6K. I have been told that the plan fully covers IVF after 6K is paid off and a few 1K for medication. But I ended up paying 3K for the first cycle and 5K for second at that point we stopped IVF. Not sure how the drug cost went up that level.
Describe Sue Ellen Carpenter's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at ACRM.
Sorry! we didn't go that far. Personally we don't like the approach of multiple transfer; just reading through the downside of it.

We felt like our success rate for IVF was inflated or sugar coated [by Dr. Kathryn Calhoun]. We were told at the first consult (which was extremely quick) that our chances were really good...opinion certainly changed between failed round 1 and failed round 2. After leaving...we found out I had DOH which was never discussed...2nd round Gonal F increased slightly. Not sure of the rationale. 2nd round = more blasts than first round but they did put the low number of blasts round one to "bad luck"
I don't have a particularly good opinion of ACRM after my experience...I loved Cailin [nurse]! She was always accessible and quick to respond to my many emails. I didn't really interact that much with the rest of the team on a consistent basis...An important prescription for me was called into the wrong pharmacy which caused my insurance to decline it. Then there was a signature left off some paperwork which meant a delay with processing insurance
How was your experience with Kathryn Calhoun at ACRM?
We felt like our success rate for IVF was inflated or sugar coated. We were told at the first consult (which was extremely quick) that our chances were really good. ACRM's opinion certainly changed between failed round 1 and failed round 2. After leaving ACRM we found out I had DOH which was never discussed at ACRM at all.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Kathryn Calhoun at ACRM?
I don't have a particularly good opinion of ACRM after my experience. I would advise patients to consult at all clinics and choose the one you feel best fits your needs.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Kathryn Calhoun at ACRM?
The care/attention of the nurses and team at ACRM felt personal and over multiple cycles we got to know the team.
Describe the protocols Kathryn Calhoun used in your cycles at ACRM and their degree of success.
Menopur, Gonal F, Centrotide and Omnitrope, all 1 x injection per day. 2nd round Gonal F increased slightly. Not sure of the rationale. 2nd round = more blasts than first round but they did put the low number of blasts round one to "bad luck"
Describe your experience with your nurse at ACRM. (Assigned nurse: Cailin)
I loved Cailin! She was always accessible and quick to respond to my many emails. I didn't really interact that much with the rest of the team on a consistent basis
Describe your experience with ACRM.
The clinic is part of CCRM which is a very successful IVF clinic. The wait time to see a RE for the initial consult is not long at all vs the other clinics in Atlanta. I believe they do false advertise though. They claim to be the only clinic in Atlanta with "CCS" (PGS) testing, however the other clinics that are just a few miles away also offer it. Maybe it's semantics or the fact those clinics are outside of Atlanta City limits..? We felt like we had to learn a lot on our own about the process.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Kathryn Calhoun at ACRM.
I had insurance coverage so cannot comment on the costs
Describe Kathryn Calhoun's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at ACRM.
I did not make it that far. No embryos to transfer
What specific things went wrong at ACRM?
  • Failed to call in prescriptions to pharmacy
  • Failed to order appropriate test
Describe the specific things that went wrong at ACRM.
An important prescription for me was called into the wrong pharmacy which caused my insurance to decline it. Then there was a signature left off some paperwork which meant a delay with processing insurance

We had our first phone consult with Dr. Hasty last year, we have since been to the clinic 3 times and still have never met her in person. She has directed our treatments though and so far it has been fine. I just wish she would have come out to meet with us when she likely knew we were in the office meeting with her coordinator...On the phone she was friendly and seemed caring. However, although she had records prior to our phone call, it seemed like she knew nothing of our case and was reading as we were talking. I took offense to this because our case is a BIG DEAL. I didn't want to feel like I was just another person and here is your same protocol as theirs, but I did.
I DO feel I am being given GREAT care by this team and this clinic [ACRM] and am very glad that I have them on my side!! I would highly recommend them!...I wasn't given the option to speak with the embryologist ahead of time... If you don't know what questions to ask then sometimes I feel like they don't tell you enough info...Sometimes parts of the email weren't answered so I'd have to resend the question again. Mirrin [nurse] is VERY sweet though and caring and she tries her best to help you and answer your questions. I'm sure it's a tough job. It's just hard when you are in this situation and you want answers right now so you don't stress and it takes a while for them to get back to you.
How was your experience with Lisa Hasty at ACRM?
I think it may be different if we were doing monitoring at ACRM too but since we live in NC we aren't. I feel like her treatment is the right course of action though. On the phone she was friendly and seemed caring. However, although she had records prior to our phone call, it seemed like she knew nothing of our case and was reading as we were talking. I took offense to this because our case is a BIG DEAL. I didn't want to feel like I was just another person and here is your same protocol as theirs, but I did.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Lisa Hasty at ACRM?
Make sure you ask her to go over your prior results prior to your first meeting and that is important to you. Make sure you are your own advocate and question everything. Stay on top of the coordinators too.

BCP for a few weeks, then estrace pills for a few weeks then my FET cycle was rescheduled due to ovulation. This new cycle I will add in Lupron injections so that I will not ovulate.
Describe your experience with your nurse at ACRM. (Assigned nurse: Mirrin Reagan)
Sometimes emails aren't answered right away and she NEVER answers the phone. Phone calls are returned, and i'm sure there are a lot of patients. Sometimes parts of the email weren't answered so I'd have to resend the question again. Mirrin is VERY sweet though and caring and she tries her best to help you and answer your questions. I'm sure it's a tough job. It's just hard when you are in this situation and you want answers right now so you don't stress and it takes a while for them to get back to you.
Describe your experience with ACRM.
I wasn't given the option to speak with the embryologist ahead of time. Maybe I should have asked but I felt like they should have given me the option regardless. If you don't know what questions to ask then sometimes I feel like they don't tell you enough info. I feel like everyone in my position should be more informed of what's next, what to expect, possible outcomes and setbacks, why this protocol instead of that, protocol options, etc. All stuff I learned on FB groups instead of from my doctor. However, I DO feel I am being given GREAT care by this team and this clinic and am very glad that I have them on my side!! I would highly recommend them!
Describe Lisa Hasty's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at ACRM.
They prefer you only transfer one but would discuss two. We only had one to transfer. She was definitive in all the reasons two is not the best idea. I had paperwork for that.

She [Dr. Bonnie Patel] was very kind, explained everything in depth. You could really tell she had read through my history and cared about making sure I understood her thoughts...She’s very easy to understand- like I mentioned in always felt she was explaining everything as well as possible. I have a lot of questions too, and she was more than happy to answer those. Which is great. She’s also willing to work with my other doctors for other care I’m currently undergoing.
I think the clinical staff is amazing[at ACRM]. My only issue was the wait times in office. My husband got called back 30 minutes before me and we had the same blood draw and the same arrival time. I would make sure you’re being called back in a timely manner or bring a laptop/book. I waited over an hour for a blood draw...They’re very quick to reply and answer all questions and coordination of care

We’re going to be setting these up in my next appointment, however, she has mentioned getting IVF underway. She believes this is the best option for me due to the many risks of IUI for my case

Dr Denis was always very kind, reasonable, calm and no rush to end the appoinment. He always answered all our questions e guided us (always respecting our feelings) to the best way for us...The antagonist protocol with lupron was the best for me and Dr Denis analysed carefully my records and previous IVF cycles to proceed with the best protocoal and response my body gave during stimulations...
[at ACRM] Sometimes waiting time was a little bit long even having the appointment scheduled. On the 1st IVF cylce at ACRM some nurses weren´t very gentle drawing blood and after a complaint things changed. Everyone was always very friendly and kind...About $25k with medication. About $45k with donor egg from outside bank....

I had a complex medical history, and Dr. Carpenter still treated me with grace. She got to know us personally and I felt like we had a close relationship...is lovely both personally and professionally...we had high expectations, and she did not disappoint. Dr. Carpenter was warm but professional. We felt complete confidence in her ability to help us reach our fertility goals...She is very accepting and easy to work with: however, she is very direct with her medical advise.
The clinic [ACRM] is overall very nice. You do see different providers during your time at ACRM- but they are all great. I was not super impressed with communication during the testing period; however, once we began IVF communication was quick and crystal clear...The office assigns a specific nurse and care coordinators to each patient. This sounds good at first; however, you typically have to wait to get in contact with that specific person. Sometimes I wish you could just call the office and talk to someone.
How was your experience with Sue Ellen Carpenter at ACRM?
Dr. Carpenter is lovely both personally and professionally. I know several people who used her successfully throughout the years so we had high expectations, and she did not disappoint. Lisa was always encouraging and true to her words. She presented every fact and expectation in a very friendly manner. Dr Hasty is a very experienced and knowledgeable doctor she knows how to treat a patient and also explain outcomes in an understanding way.... I had ectopic pregnancy but my tubes were open she suggested to go with IVF since there might be risk of tubal with IUI.
ACRM is the best clinic for fertility treatment since all doctors and nurses take very good care of all the patients need. I had no problem following the instructions or going through the whole process of IVF....Their monitoring system were updated and well organized never had any problem...The cost of 1 IVF was 10,000 dollars and the mediations and injections were around 3000 while office visits and ultrasound were around 2000
