Attention to Detail

Attention to detail is on a 1 - 10 scale, and is scored based on the rate, and severity, of errors committed by the clinic according to the patients.

For example, a severe error might be failing to inform a patient of critical information, while a small error might be failing to call a patient with results.

CDC Success Rates

This is the most recent data from the CDC. The CDC cautions that it should not be used to compare doctors and clinics. This data represents the outcomes of IVF cycles when using a person's own eggs.

For more information please see our FAQs.

Where you see a “?” on the chart, a clinic has done fewer than 20 cycles in this category and age range, so the CDC says showing percentages from this small data set would be misleading and unreliable.

[Dr. Brady] always answered my questions promptly and thoroughly. I never felt like "just a number" or that my case wasn't getting the attention it deserved...was thorough in examining my medical history and bloodwork, detailed in explaining the course of treatment, and compassionate when I suffered a chemical pregnancy. She set expectations in a realistic way and seemed to share in our joy when we had that positive pregnancy test result...
I visited [Columbia University's] Manhattan and Scarsdale (satellite) offices...visiting such clean, sanitary offices was very much appreciated. The offices were well run and the wait times were never more than 10-15 minutes. I liked the availability of early morning monitoring appointments, so as not to miss any of the workday...We tried three timed intercourse cycles with letrozole and ovidrel. The second cycle resulted in a chemical pregnancy but, because everything seemed to be working as it should, we did not adjust the medications. The third cycle was successful.

I always felt comfortable at the clinic [Columbia University]. They have a very professional, friendly and mindful staff. I appreciated their high standards during covid times. The office always seemed very clean and never crowded. On average there would be 2 other people in the waiting area. In general there weren't every any crazy wait times. I think one time I had to wait 20 mins at the most.

During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Paula Brady at Columbia University?
Dr.Brady always listened patiently, answered all of my questions, and made me feel comfortable. I could email her any time I had a question and she would respond fairly quickly.
Describe the protocols Paula Brady used in your cycles at Columbia University and their degree of success.
She had us get a bunch of testing at first (blood test, genetics, STDS). When everything came back normal, we started the IUI process. I was told to take Clomid for 5 days and then inject myself with Ovedril one time. This didn't work the first month, so she doubled my intake of Clomid for the second cycle, and then again I had to inject myself with Ovedril. Giving myself an injection was terrifying. I don't like needles. But I'm pregnant now so I guess it was worth it.

Ask all your questions clearly and don't expect her to explain everything to you without asking. And that's stating the obvious because doctors can't guess what you know or you don't.

The staff are used to following their routine and therefore sometimes miss your questions. Once I was there to ask a question and they automatically sent me to a room to draw my blood and do the tests.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Paula Brady at Columbia University.
I really don't remember. It was not cheap but definitely not mind-blowing as well.

Dr Rudick took the time to throughly explain every detail, allotted a full hour for our initial results review and answered every question, and was always encouraging and easy to reach...she always found time for you and answered every question in a scientific way...ovulation induction using letrozole. The first time took too long, so she upped my dose the second time. I was then closely monitored every two days until the egg was just the right size, then took a trigger shot, and then timed intercourse...
They [nurses at Columbia University] were wonderful, organized, fast, helpful and I could not have imagined being in a better environment to go through this difficult process...Great and easy to use portal, could do everything via email (so never had to call), they arranged all of the medication and financials, and always had slots if you needed to do a blood test or ultrasound. Best part - for any appointment - I was in and out in less than 20 minutes!...

Dr Brady was very good. At first I was a bit hesitant simply because she seemed young. But she is really competent and explains everything. She doesn't rush you through. She gives you the time you need while answering each question clearly and directly...Dr Brady did not want to try more than one transfer, as it still wasn't entirely clear what may have been causing the infertility. Therefore, so as not to waste precious embryos, Dr Brady advised against multiple transfers....
They [Columbia University] are competent, appointments were smooth. Staff were personable and sweet and encouraging...Total cost for entire treatment- Retrieval of Eggs, Fertilization and Transfer of one Embryo ran up to about 13-14 thousand, besides 2-3 thousand in medication costs...[nurses were] Quick to respond and arrange everything necessary...

Dr. Brady is one of the kindest and most forthright doctors I've ever worked with. She was transparent and direct, providing transparent information about all my options, the risks and the underlying statistics. She was patient, direct and honest. I recommend her wholeheartedly...Egg retrieval, IVF and embryo transfer. We had to do 2 cycles. And we did planned IVF transfer...She answered all my questions clearly and was very direct with what to expect.
Madison [nurse at Columbia University] was amazing. She always responded to my emails and was patient in helping me understand treatment steps and troubleshoot any challenges...Monitoring was generally a well oiled machine. Things generally ran promptly and efficiently...The clinic is clean and organized. Appointments generally ran prompt and self-scheduling option is very convenient. The medical assistants and clinical staff are kind and responsive. There were times that the admin staff were not as polite as I would have liked. Nothing terrible but it was a bit disappointing.

Dr. Brady was incredibly responsive to my partner and I. She acknowledged and directly addressed our concerns, she was curious to hear about and eager to talk through the real life issues that were factoring into our decision-making about our fertility process, and I never felt like I had to exclude any part of myself in talking through our process with her...was knowledgable, warm, and responsive. My partner and I felt so taken care of throughout our fertility process, and knew we could ask for guidance every step of the way. I would highly recommend working with her to anyone.
This clinic [Columbia University] is well organized, thoughtful, and felt very "On top of it". My partner and I had been to other clinics that were very much a counterpoint to this. At Columbia, we were guided through the complex process of IVF and offered information that enabled us to make informed decisions each step of the way...Our Care Coordinator was organized, efficient, and very responsive. We were able to email directly, which was a huge help.

Dr Brady has a great way of communicating in context. It's overwhelming information and she helped me understand my results, things to expect, etc. I always felt heard and understood...I've never had a doctor take the time and be so available. She answered all my questions and most of the time got ahead of them. She was extremely accommodating and understanding to any requests I had. Above all, she felt like a partner - I trusted her and felt like she really cared...
The staff [at Columbia University] is awesome. My primary care team was always accessible, got answers for me fast and were incredibly friendly...The only additional cost I paid for was elective genetic screening. Everything else was covered under my insurance...The clinic is run really efficiently. I never waited more than 5/10 minutes. Appointment times were easy to get and everyone from front desk, to nurses to doctors were incredibly nice and caring. The financial counselors were also incredible. They worked directly with my insurance and I really had very little to do on my own. They really know what they're doing and in an environment where timing is everything, they get it done.

While I haven’t seen her for very long, she immediately made my husband and I feel comfortable in her care. She is very knowledgeable but still took the time to confer with her colleagues about some rare situations with our case and let us know that. Dr. Brady always answers emails and phone calls the same day, no matter how many times we email or how many questions we ask!... Do not hesitate to email her directly or to ask questions.
This clinic [Columbia University] has been amazing! They are very helpful and easy to reach. Great experience all around [at Columbia University]. All of the nurses and techs were consistently kind, warm, and supportive. I rarely had to wait long for appointments, and got results very quickly. The embryology success rates with thawing and fertilization were excellent. Highly recommended...The clinic only does single embryo transfer with well graded embryos because of the risks associated with multiple births. I agreed with and was comfortable with this approach.

I don’t remember all the details but we used a combination of menopur and gonal in all my own cycles, and also tried microdose of lupron. For my last cycle of IVF with my own eggs we tried a lower dose of the first two. For my donor egg cycles, we did a modified natural cycle with monitoring to see when I ovulated, a trigger shot, and progesterone suppositories. I appreciated very much getting to do a natural cycle.

Mostly covered by my insurance but paid about $8000 total for various uncovered parts. Donor eggs were most expensive but separate from clinic costs- we ended using lots of 6 eggs from 3 different donors and each lot was about $17,000.

Dr. Wiltshire was open and honest with me about the process and her point of view on certain aspects of the procedure. She was relatable, funny, not self-serious, and gave her honest opinions when asked. She was responsive when I struggled to understand which shots were which on my first night of treatment; even getting back to me after 10pm at night. We had a successful retrieval and we even celebrated together in the recovery room.
[Columbia Univserity is] Clean, organized, good location with competent staff and a flexible scheduling system. Those are the strengths. There are no weaknesses, except maybe how busy they are all the time? but I never had to wait for my appointment, I was always called in very soon after arriving. The nurses were lovely and it ran like a well-oiled machine...There were a few times the nurses struggled to find a vein but they were always compassionate and apologetic when they had to stick me multiple times.
How was your experience with Ashley Wiltshire at Columbia University?
She was kind, honest, and a clear communicator. She took my treatment seriously and made sure she was available to support me along the way. She was very responsive on email and text, and even got back to me with answers to my questions about my medication dosage after hours. There was a question about whether she would be available for the extraction surgery or would be replaced by another doctor, but she was there. I was her only surgery that day and she came in to make sure she was performing, which was very important to me. We had a very successful retrieval (57 eggs) and we celebrated together as I recovered. She was funny, caring and relatable.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Ashley Wiltshire at Columbia University?
Feel free to be yourself and ask all your questions up front. There are no 'dumb' questions.

We amended my Ganerelix start date to manage my estrogen levels, which shot up a little faster than expected. She also updated my Folostim dosage every few days in response to my growth rates.

Dr. Brady was always understanding and compassionate...We did iui. My husband has low sperm count. I thankfully did not get diagnosed with anything. The process was easy. We went to the office to get blood work and track my ovulation. It took like 15 minutes, every few days. The first iui cycle did not work. But my insurance approve 6 cycles thankfully. The second cycle Dr Brady increased my ovulation medication, and I had a double iui. This cycle I thankfully we got pregnant...

Dr.Brady called me on important news, such as number of retrieval, number of mature eggs, and number of fertilized eggs. It took a while for me to meet her. I met her at my last ultrasound before retrieval, I think? She is very matter-of-fact, in a very good way. All her stats as part of an answer to my question were right on. She exactly “predicted” the likelihood for every step for my IVF, never gave false hope or exacerbate a problem. I like that very much
[Columbia University is] Very efficient, like a factory. It doesn’t hurt to draw blood there...I never met my primary nurse. I didn’t think she stands out as a communicator as I never really heard from her. I find other nurses I see in person more compassionate and helpful...I particularly enjoy seeing the technicians and nurses. I can remember their names, they remember mine as well. They make each monitoring session more interesting. My girl is now over 6 months...
How was your experience with Paula Brady at Columbia University?
She always answers my questions. I asked quite a few questions… I appreciate that. I felt more informed each time corresponding with her. She could also tell that I was very stressed emotionally and recommended acupuncture and other services to help me relax. I already recommended her to my friends and plan to return.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Paula Brady at Columbia University?
Getting insurance cleared up took a while. My cycle was put on pause for longer than I had hoped with birth control coz the meds weren’t ready/insurance pre authorization wasnt approve in time. Get that sort out asap?

After our zoom consultation with Dr Karipcin it was like a breath of fresh air and I knew we were in excellent hands and she knew exactly what we needed and how to get us there. [Dr. Bishop] took the time to make sure my husband and I understood all of her recommendations, and she listened to our concerns, always able to walk us through the rationale for the next steps...She took all of my concerns and my history into account at every step of the way, and I never felt like she was pushing a procedure or protocol..
[Columbia University is] Very efficient. I loved that I almost never had to wait too long for an appointment. Furthermore, I felt taken care of by an entire team of nurses and doctors at every step. When Dr. Bishop was away on maternity leave, for example, Dr. Foreman seamlessly took over my case and was also incredibly attentive, responsive, and knowledgeable.
How was your experience with Lauren Bishop at Columbia University?
From the start, Dr. Bishop was incredibly attentive, patient, and knowledgeable. She took all of my concerns and my history into account at every step of the way, and I never felt like she was pushing a procedure or protocol. In addition, given my age, she was realistic, providing odds and statistics for each step, which as a numbers person I appreciated, but she was also positive, even when after 2 cycles, I "only" had one PGT normal embryo. That one embryo resulted in my now 2 week old son!
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Lauren Bishop at Columbia University?
Don't be afraid to ask questions or voice concerns. Dr. Bishop truly listens and takes what you say into account.

I was about to give up when Dr. Rudick reached out to me and asked me if we could talk about the next steps. I figured I go hear what she had in mind. She recommended another fresh cycle and she seemed so certain I could do it again. So I started another cycle and this time got 2 normal embryos...She spoke to delicately and calmly. She never rushed me and always answered my questions.
I liked that they opened [Columbia University] office early at 7 am. Great to go get testing find before work. Also the rooms were clean and the front desk people very friendly. Go early so you can continue with your day...She [Dr. Rudick] recommended another fresh cycle and she seemed so certain I could do it again. So I started another cycle and this time got 2 normal embryos
How was your experience with Briana Rudick at Columbia University?
Dr Rudick was fantastic. I had a successful first live birth and wanted another baby’. My previously untested frozen embryo was transferred but it did not result in a pregnancy. I did a whole other cycle (I was 41 years old) and there were no viable embryos after doing PGS testing. I was about to give up when Dr. Rudick reached out to me and asked me if we could talk about the next steps. I figured I go hear what she had in mind. She recommended another fresh cycle and she seemed so certain I could do it again. So I started another cycle and this time got 2 normal embryos. I had one transferred and got pregnant!!! I had a healthy beautiful baby girl 9 months later. I owe so much thanks for Dr. Rudick believing in me and my body. She was always so positive and kind. I highly recommend her as a RE.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Briana Rudick at Columbia University?
Go to her and ask all the questions you want. This is an important time to get all your questions answered.

Dr. Bishop is confident yet humble in her approach. She answers questions clearly and really quickly. She took the time to understand all my history and I could tell she really remembered it because she would bring up details each time we spoke. She wasn’t available for most of my visits but since those were quick ultrasounds, it wasn’t necessary to consult her. However, anytime I did want to see or speak with her, she made herself available for me. Overall a great experience with Dr. Bishop.
Columbia Fertility is a great clinic. They are super efficient and organized when it comes to morning monitoring or ultrasounds. Appointments are generally on time and fast. They are also really quick about communicating results and follow ups within a couple of hours of the visit...Dr. Bishop is confident yet humble in her approach. Dr. Brady kept in great touch with me throughout, was very personal, and was very attuned to the unique concerns my oncological situation presented...was wonderful - communicative, sensitive, and her personality is not extreme in any direction: she didn't sugarcoat anything, but also was appropriately excited for me when sharing that my reserve amounts were high or that my egg retrieval had gone well...Even though fertility processes need to run on a strict schedule, I did not feel like a number or statistic while there. Very patient-focused
Everyone I encountered at Columbia Fertility was great. They made what was a difficult process for me (I have breast cancer and never would have otherwise been there seeking their services) easy and as painless as possible...they helped me apply to programs that give cancer patients the necessary medications for free...Organized, clean, friendly, barely ever waited at all. Even though fertility processes need to run on a strict schedule, I did not feel like a number or statistic while there. Very patient-focused clinic.
