Attention to Detail

Attention to detail is on a 1 - 10 scale, and is scored based on the rate, and severity, of errors committed by the clinic according to the patients.

For example, a severe error might be failing to inform a patient of critical information, while a small error might be failing to call a patient with results.

CDC Success Rates

This is the most recent data from the CDC. The CDC cautions that it should not be used to compare doctors and clinics. This data represents the outcomes of IVF cycles when using a person's own eggs.

For more information please see our FAQs.

Where you see a “?” on the chart, a clinic has done fewer than 20 cycles in this category and age range, so the CDC says showing percentages from this small data set would be misleading and unreliable.

Dr. Mucowski is wonderful if you are seeking someone to share things in a matter-of-fact way with no emotion. She delivers all results/news in the same manner - good or bad. She isn't warm, but I find sometimes that is helpful because I don't like things sugarcoated...She could provide more care when things do not go as planned. Even a simple "I'm sorry you're going through this." would be appreciated.
The clinic [at Dallas IVF] is well-organized and appointments are easy to schedule. The nursing staff does not always call back on the same day, but they are responsive. The Dallas office is lovely - inviting, great music, and generally a happy place to be (as happy as it can be in this situation). The Frisco office is not as great, and pretty old/standard...The nursing staff is much more compassionate and caring than the doctor. They are warm, and one even gives me a hug when things go wrong.

Dr. Mucowski is very straightforward. She tells you the information and statistics you need to know. She's not going to try to be your cheerleader or pump you up - she's going to be realistic and give you the facts.

It has cost far more than originally anticipated because I have had to go through multiple FETs (about to start the third). Upwards of $60,000 at this point.

The embryologist's office associated with Dallas IVF lost one of my embryos. We are still in the process of understanding what happened and who is at fault. It was devastating.

Dr. Barnett was able to explain to us why things likely happened a certain way and any adjustments he may make if we need to go through another cycle...I did feel at times that [he] would talk over me and not fully let me ask questions of him and at times felt as though he may have been rushing. However, once this was addressed with him, he seemed to take that feedback and listen to my concerns more fully.
There has been good communication from the office [Dallas IVF], prompt responses to phone calls and messages on the patient portal, and caring and compassionate staff for the most part...very knowledgeable and frequently referred to research and current guidance from their governing boards...[Dr. Barnett] talked over me at times, therefore not understanding the questions I was trying to ask. However, this was addressed and corrected.
How was your experience with Brian Barnett at Dallas IVF?
Dr. Barnett is very knowledgeable and fully explains all of what can be expected within our testing and treatment. He would outline step by step processes and draw diagrams to help us understand. Based on results of things happening at different stages of the treatment, Dr. Barnett was able to explain to us why things likely happened a certain way and any adjustments he may make if we need to go through another cycle (this is our first IVF cycle). I did feel at times that Dr. Barnett would talk over me and not fully let me ask questions of him and at times felt as though he may have been rushing. However, once this was addressed with him, he seemed to take that feedback and listen to my concerns more fully. Overall, we have been pleased with Dr. Barnett as our fertility doctor and are hoping for continued positive results as we move forward to the next stage of treatment!
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Brian Barnett at Dallas IVF?
Provide him with feedback if there is something you are unhappy with. He seemed to receive it well when I addressed my concern with him and communication has been better since then.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Brian Barnett at Dallas IVF?
Dr. Barnett takes an approach in which I felt that he was paying attention to our unique situation (rather than just treating us like any other patient). However, it did sometimes feel that things were rushed to get to the next appointment.
Describe the protocols Brian Barnett used in your cycles at Dallas IVF and their degree of success.
As we were dealing with male factor infertility, Dr. Barnett had to coordinate with my husband's urologist. The two offices did this very well. We did an IVF cycle in which all embryos were frozen. Medication regimens and every other day monitoring (labs and sonograms) during the medication timeline were done. After egg retrieval, eggs were fertilized using ICSI (due to our male factor infertility). Embryos were grown to day 6 before being biopsied and frozen. We did choose to have genetic testing of the embryos done. We have not yet gotten to the stage of embryo transfer.
Describe your experience with Dallas IVF.
Our experience with Dallas IVF- Frisco has overall been very good. There has been good communication from the office, prompt responses to phone calls and messages on the patient portal, and caring and compassionate staff for the most part. The staff seem very knowledgeable and frequently referred to research and current guidance from their governing boards. The only weakness I can note is that I felt that the doctor talked over me at times, therefore not understanding the questions I was trying to ask. However, this was addressed and corrected.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Brian Barnett at Dallas IVF.
The insurance I have does cover fertility treatments, so payments went towards my deductible and then once that was met, I payed a copay. It is hard to talk about costs because I believe our experience being billed to insurance is different than what it would be private pay.
Describe Brian Barnett's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Dallas IVF.
Dr. Barnett does seem to prefer single embryo transfer if consideration of factors supports this. In our case, because of my age and the fact that this is our first time undergoing IVF, he did let us know he would be doing a single embryo transfer. However, if the facts of our case were different, he may have considered another option.

Dr. Mucowski communicates based on facts, statistics and her past experiences with patients. That being said, she doesn't sugar coat things. She tells you facts, straight up, and sometimes they are tough to swallow...She asks what your ideal family looks like, then from a scientific angle, explains how that reality can or cannot be possible and offers up ideas and solutions to get you to where you want to go.
The nursing staff [at Dallas IVF] was amazing. They were always there for any of my questions- via phone or email. Carly, Erin and Katryce were my main nurses and I can't say enough nice things about them. The best...Several locations available...flexible based on where Dr. M is that day. Weekend appointments for blood/sonos were usually in Frisco. I only had to see another doctor due to Dr. M being unavailable once and that doctor was great too (Dr. Mehta).
How was your experience with Sara Mucowski at Dallas IVF?
Dr. Mucowski communicates based on facts, statistics and her past experiences with patients. That being said, she doesn't sugar coat things. She tells you facts, straight up, and sometimes they are tough to swallow. However, this is the type of personality my husband and I needed in order to make sense of everything. She asks what your ideal family looks like, then from a scientific angle, explains how that reality can or cannot be possible and offers up ideas and solutions to get you to where you want to go.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Sara Mucowski at Dallas IVF?
Trust Dr. Mucowski's judgement, but don't be afraid to advocate for yourself in wanting to pursue something further.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Sara Mucowski at Dallas IVF?
I had a bad experience with communication and response time with another practice-Aspire Fertility. (I'll get to Dr. Mucowski's review once I give some background on my situation). It all started when I told my gyno that my husband and I were ready to start trying. She recommended I do a Natera Genetic test, just to be aware of any issues. Turns out I was a carrier for Fragile X. My gyno recommended me to an RE, just to explore options, so I contacted their practice and set up a consult. The doctor at Aspire gave me an overview of what fragile X meant and that IVF was an option, if needed, and that I could obviously still get pregnant on my own naturally. Just to be sure, she did an initial check on follicle count, then drew blood, then never got back in touch with me on my blood results for nearly 2 months. I called, left messages with the front desk, etc. and finally got the call over 45 days later regarding my blood work. A nurse called to tell me my estrogen levels were extremely low and I would probably not get pregnant even with several cycles of IVF (!!!). It was shocking, frustrating, and handled so carelessly. When I asked why, they told me they had a lot of turnover and apologized. I definitely 'felt like a number' while in their care. That's when I decided to reach out to Dallas IVF. After submitting an online form detailing my diagnosis, I got a quick response, and it was an email from Dr. Mucowski herself! She put me in touch with scheduling and I had an appointment within 1 week of the date of inquiry. That alone made me realize how poor the previous practice was treating me and that Dallas IVF would be something worth looking into further. From my interactions with Dr. Mucowski and the staff at Dallas IVF, I was treated with respect and compassion from the beginning. I definitely didn't 'feel like a number' with Dallas IVF and Dr. Mucowski. While I'm still waiting on a transfer (COVID setback) I have complete faith that I will end up pregnant at the end of this long journey, with Dr. Mucowski's guidance and support.
Describe the protocols Sara Mucowski used in your cycles at Dallas IVF and their degree of success.
\I was diagnosed with Diminshed Ovarian Reserve. Due to my fragile X carrier status, our plan was to do PGD on our embryos, since I had a family history of fragile X tremor and ataxia. Round 1: Baseline- AMH was .3 at my first doctor, then .7 with Dr. Mucowski right before my first round. Estrogen was 26.3 pg/mL. I started with birth control for a week and then stims (Menopur 150 IU and Gonal F 225 units). After 3 days of stims, I went in for my first sonogram + blood work. During the sonogram there were only 5 follicles and it was clear that this wasn't what Dr. Mucowski wanted to see. We waited for blood work- and my estrogen was still really low- it only went up to 37.8. My first round was cancelled after 3 days of stims due poor response. Round 2- Second cycle I started with no BC (Dr. M thought it may be suppressing me too much), but with microdose Lupron 20 units. Did this 2x a day morning and night and started stims after 2.5 days of Lupron. This time increased to Menopur 225 IU, Gonal F 225 units. At day three, sonogram showed only 4 follicles this time, only 3 at 7mm+ (Dr. M says if they're over 7.5 mm at first sono, they have a chance of making it to good size eggs). Blood work came back with estrogen at 55. We wanted to hit over 100 after day 3, so still wasn't looking good. Dr. M called me personally to tell me this cycle would be cancelled and to start thinking about donor eggs because my body was just not responding. I asked for an even more aggressive protocol, but her standpoint was that increasing dosage would just put me at risk for hyper ovarian stimulation. Her advice was to start thinking about donor eggs and to move on from IVF completely. This was hard to hear because I went straight to IVF very quickly, then to be told I'd need donor eggs was super emotional. My gut instinct was, there ARE follicles, even though there aren't many, and all it takes is one good egg. I felt like at 33, what if this was my only chance with my own eggs? I called Dr. M back and asked her to please let me move forward with the cycle, and to not cancel. I knew this was a financial risk. I really had to advocate for myself, and I felt like my body COULD do this. She came around, and said she'd support my decision. We continued the cycle (I stayed on stims an extra 3 days) and then had my first egg retrieval. All 4 eggs were retrieved, 3 were fertilized, and 3 were mature enough to be frozen! Because of my fragile X carrier status (64 repeats, no AGG interuptions), we wanted to do PGD. Chances of a baby with fragile x carrier was 50%. Chances of full mutation was about 10%. Only 3 embryos was risky, knowing the odds and we really want more than one child. So, we decided to go for another round. Round 3- This was it. I went into this knowing it would be my last round. Dr. M gave me the same protocol, microdose Lupron 20 units. Did this 2x a day morning and night and started stims after 2.5 days of Lupron. Menopur 225 IU, Gonal F 225 units. But on top of this, she added Clomid for the first 5 days of the cycle. Went in on day 3 for sonogram and bloodwork. Estrogen was finally where she wanted it to be! 145 pg/mL! 5 follicles growing. Went in the next appointment and we were both quite shocked. This time, there were 13 follicles, all growing nicely. Who's ovaries were these? I don't know. But it was exciting, that finally something was working! At egg retrieval, there were 13 retrieved, 12 ICSI, 9 fertilized, 7 frozen embryos. We batched embryos together from 2nd and 3rd round and sent 10 embryos for PGD testing. In the end, we have 3 healthy embryos. We are awaiting a transfer once COVID is over. Notes: At my first consult Dr. M told me to begin taking DHEA supplements to potentially help with egg quality- she said there were some initial studies on this and it wouldn't hurt. I took DHEA for about 3 months already before starting any cycles, and kept taking it throughout. Also took other vitamins with approval from Dr. M: -DHEA -Prenatal -Vitamin B, C, E -COQ10 -Fish Oil Though Dr. M did not prohibit acupuncture, she told me there was no scientific proof it helps or hurts and that it was a personal choice. I decided to move forward and did acupuncture about a month before starting any cycles, and went once a week throughout all cycles. I did a session the day before each egg retrieval as well. I do feel like it made a difference in my stress level and controlled my anxiety more. It also helped me sleep better. Which could in turn have helped.
Describe your experience with your nurse at Dallas IVF. (Assigned nurse: Carly, Erin, Katryce )
The nursing staff was amazing. They were always there for any of my questions- via phone or email. Carly, Erin and Katryce were my main nurses and I can't say enough nice things about them. The best.
Describe your experience with Dallas IVF.
Several locations available- Downtown Dallas, Frisco, Plano. Pretty flexible based on where Dr. M is that day. Weekend appointments for blood/sonos were usually in Frisco. I only had to see another doctor due to Dr. M being unavailable once and that doctor was great too (Dr. Mehta).
Describe the costs associated with your care under Sara Mucowski at Dallas IVF.
My insurance did not cover any costs. Dallas IVF gave us cash discount, fees below. Each cycle was around $15K. Medication was separate and cost us around $4K per cycle. Transfer is separate and will be around $4K per transfer.
Describe Sara Mucowski's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Dallas IVF.
Because of my age (under 35) and potential risk of multiples, she recommends only single embryo transfer when we are ready.

[Dr. Lowell Ku] never approached our case the same way twice. After a setback he would do further research and provide a new plan of attack...After my wife’s first transfer and miscarriage with him, knowing our history of loss, he recommended a great surrogacy agency...discovered that our previous embryologist had frozen our embryos too soon...he thawed over night so they could develop further. All three embryos jumped from low Bs to High A ratings. Our second transfer with our GC resulted in the birth of our daughter.
The Frisco location [Dallas IVF] feels more updated and is the one we frequent because Dr. Ku operates out of there...There is a strong, streamlined staff that works well together and provides assistance on all levels. They can recommend acupuncturists, surrogacy agencies, payment assistance, grief counseling, etc...nursing staff was always quick to respond to phone calls and emails. They volunteered at events and were always friendly and genuine in public. They were delicate around patients; never patronizing or indifferent.
How was your experience with Lowell Ku at Dallas IVF?
The third time truly was the charm. We lucked out since not only was Ku recommended to us, but he also took our insurance. Every consult gave us a clear path to pursue. After my wife’s first transfer and miscarriage with him, knowing our history of loss, he recommended a great surrogacy agency that they worked with. When our own surrogate did not take our first embryo, he discovered that our previous embryologist had frozen our embryos too soon. Instead the hour thaw before transfer, he thawed over night so they could develop further. All three embryos jumped from low Bs to High A ratings. Our second transfer with our GC resulted in the birth of our daughter. He is also a partner with the Dallas Walk of Hope, and because we joined his team he matched all funds we raised up to $500 for the Resolve Fundraiser. With his help we raised over $1200 last year. I can’t recommend Dr. Ku enough to anyone I know who lives in DFW or can make the drive to see him.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Lowell Ku at Dallas IVF?
Dr. Ku is for real. It’s okay to hope again.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Lowell Ku at Dallas IVF?
Dr. Ku, in many ways, was like a grief counselor for us. He empathized with our pain and loss but gave us hope when we were running out of it. He never approached our case the same way twice. After a setback he would do further research and provide a new plan of attack. He took his time with us. He even called my wife directly and gave his cell phone number to dissuade her from seeking homeopathic treatment that would have been harmful to her.
Describe the protocols Lowell Ku used in your cycles at Dallas IVF and their degree of success.
As said before, after our GC lost our first transfer, he was able to discover the problems with our embryos were due to the poor techniques of our previous embryologist. His plan to thaw our embryos overnight instead of the hour before transfer is what resulted in the birth of our daughter.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at Dallas IVF.
The nursing staff was always quick to respond to phone calls and emails. They volunteered at events and were always friendly and genuine in public. They were delicate around patients; never patronizing or indifferent.
Describe your experience with Dallas IVF.
The Frisco location feels more updated and is the one we frequent because Dr. Ku operates out of there. I cannot think of any glaring issue. There is a strong, streamlined staff that works well together and provides assistance on all levels. They can recommend acupuncturists, surrogacy agencies, payment assistance, grief counseling, etc.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Lowell Ku at Dallas IVF.
Costs were typical for what we spent but applied toward our deductible with BCBSTX. Most consults costed us just under $200. Certain procedures went anywhere in the $2500 to $5000 range
Describe Lowell Ku's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Dallas IVF.
Ku prefers eSET, as it is less risky to the mother/GC’s health and the ability for them to have a healthier and safer pregnancy.

How was your experience with Brian Barnett at Dallas IVF?
Each consultation feels/felt a bit rushed and not as detailed as we needed. He successfully removed one of my fallopian tubes and saved the other after discovering a blocked tube. He is very direct and almost dismissive at times with our questions. We are currently exploring other Doctors to move forward with IVF.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Brian Barnett at Dallas IVF?
For the end-goal, he is good and very experienced. For bedside manner & delicacy he lacks the compassion we are needing.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Brian Barnett at Dallas IVF?
He's very blunt and not delicate. Sometimes dismissive
Describe the protocols Brian Barnett used in your cycles at Dallas IVF and their degree of success.
We removed a blocked fallopian tube successfully. Our next step was timed intercourse with fertility medications (a form of IUI). He told us about 3 tries with this method before we should consider IVF. We had two failed pregnancies and one chemical pregnancy. We are in the process of considering the option of IVF and exploring all options.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at Dallas IVF.
We have almost moved clinics twice because of the staff. In general there is a lack of compassion and several mis-steps in communication that have left us feeling isolated.
Describe your experience with Dallas IVF.
We started off rough with almost 2 months before a call back for our initial consultation; which inevitably delayed the entire process. I had to call my OBGYN, who was able to contact the office for call to us. Overall- ease of scheduling appointments is easy and they have been fairly flexible.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Brian Barnett at Dallas IVF.
Very confusing. We have insurance but not a copay. We have only been charged for office visits a few times, but have been in the office numerous times. The financial consultant confirmed that we have a credit on our account and that is why the office visits haven't been charged. No one told us up front about the credit or what it is from. We are still pending information on it.
Describe Brian Barnett's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Dallas IVF.
We were told he only does single embryo transfer; which he said is better statistically for a healthier pregnancy and birth.

I have really mild PCOS, and we were there mostly for LGBT related reasons. I did Letrozole and follistim every cycle [with Dr. Sara Mucowski] since I responded well to them the first time. We did four IUIs so far, none of them successful yet...every time I had more than 3 follicles she let me know she would recommend selective reduction if more than 2 eggs were fertilized... is very straightforward and somewhat stoic, but still a kind person. She adjusted my treatment every cycle, and responded to my requests very well. She definitely pushed for IVF sooner than I had planned, but I understand that it has a higher chance of success.
The staff [at Dallas IVF] were great, very personable...The Dallas staff were amazing, the Plano staff were okay. Erin in Dallas was my favorite. The Dallas staff were fast, friendly, and really felt like they cared for you. My only complaint with Dallas would be that I was not really informed of patient care before my HSC and HSG exams. The Plano staff were just really slow. They weren't mean or incompetent, they were just really slow. My Plano visits took twice to three times as long as my Dallas ones.
How was your experience with Sara Mucowski at Dallas IVF?
Dr. Mucowski is very straightforward and somewhat stoic, but still a kind person. She adjusted my treatment every cycle, and responded to my requests very well. She definitely pushed for IVF sooner than I had planned, but I understand that it has a higher chance of success.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Sara Mucowski at Dallas IVF?
Understand that she helps a lot of couples in very high emotion situations, so she isn't very emotional with you. But she was very helpful and never un-friendly.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Sara Mucowski at Dallas IVF?
The staff were great, very personable.

Definitly LGBT friendly. And not in that awkward way where they are really trying to show you how much of an ally they are. They just treat LGBT people really normally, and all of their paperwork allows for different displays of gender, partner terms, and singer women. Loved that. They are pretty fast to get back to you if you call the nurse line, not the reception line. The receptionist is fast to return emails though.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Sara Mucowski at Dallas IVF.
I was out of pocket, so the ultrasounds were about $200-$250 and the IUI was $300. Medicines made up a large portions of my cost, but I was able to enroll in a discount program for my injectables, and GoodRX really helped with pills! Highly recommend looking into those. I could have saved a few hundred dollars if I had done that from the start.
Describe Sara Mucowski's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Dallas IVF.
We only did IUI, but every time I had more than 3 follicles she let me know she would recommend selective reduction if more than 2 eggs were fertilized.

Describe the specific things that went wrong at Dallas IVF.
No one warned me ahead of time that the HSC or HSG may be painful, but I head them warn another patient before theirs. I really could have used a heads up, because I experienced a lot of pain after one of them and was worried it meant something had gone wrong.

It was nice always seeing the same 2 nurses [at Dallas IVF] that seem to know their patients very well. They were timely with results and very good at education and answering any last minute questions...he billing dept was very friendly and did their best to resolve the issues but were at the mercy of waiting on insurance to clear their charges...
How was your experience with Lowell Ku at Dallas IVF?
I love that during the consults he draws out his explanation and includes the choices to let us as a couple decide. Even with terrible failures he was always hopeful to keep trying. I truly wish money wasn't an issue to try again. Because I would trust what he recommended and work my schedule around somehow to accommodate. I appreciated how much he felt like he cared for us as his patients
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Lowell Ku at Dallas IVF?
Don't wait as long as we did for a consult because of fear. Constantly ask questions.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Lowell Ku at Dallas IVF?
Dr. Ku and his staff have always been warm and informative, always willing to answer my silly questions. It was so nice of them, even though it was painful to hear, that my embryos didn't fertilize. I got personal phone calls from Dr. Ku and the nurse that had been primarily taking care of me
Describe the protocols Lowell Ku used in your cycles at Dallas IVF and their degree of success.
Clomid+follistim+trigger+IUI, I have one fallopian tube post surgery, healthy, active and young, no medical problems No result IVF cycle follistim, menopur, trigger, ICSI. 3 eggs retrieved, none made it to blastocyst
Describe your experience with your nurse at Dallas IVF. (Assigned nurse: Mary and Alexa)
It was nice always seeing the same 2 nurses that seem to know their patients very well. They were timely with results and very good at education and answering any last minute questions
Describe your experience with Dallas IVF.
Billing with insurance is always tricky. I always paid my totals due in full. However delayed charges insurance would bill always made it seem like I still had a balance with following visits. Which was difficult. And it took a while to get the issue straighten out about refunding the remainder from my failed IVF cycle because I can't advance further at this time. However the billing dept was very friendly and did their best to resolve the issues but were at the mercy of waiting on insurance to clear their charges
Describe your experience with your monitoring appointments at Dallas IVF.
They were fast and routine. The ultrasound tech or the doctor performing were always good about explaining what we're looking at and if things are progressing as planned
Describe the costs associated with your care under Lowell Ku at Dallas IVF.
$50 copay each visit And then whatever remainder next visit if insurance doesn't pay. $300 for IUI The rest of the IVF totals depended on what you had done
Describe Lowell Ku's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Dallas IVF.
He advised to do one embryo at a time to be safe, offer stability for pregnancy and less risk to mom or encouraging high risk pregnancy with multiples unnecessarily

Dr. Ku is a very kind and experienced doctor...thorough, explained things well, and very skilled with all procedures...rooting for my success...able to adjust the meds as needed for optimum follicle growth...After the first failed IVF attempt...there was no follow up from my doctor or nurses other than a message telling me to call with my next cycle if/when I was ready to try again.
They [staff at Dallas IVF] were knowledgeable with billing/insurance...work magic when coordinating all of the different labs/procedures/consults into one visit...bad news via telephone call from someone in the embryology lab...blunt and impersonal...don’t know that the lab techs should be responsible for delivering that kind of sensitive news...[receptionist/notary at surgery center] was awful...rude, inappropriate and came across as judgmental...
How was your experience with Lowell Ku at Dallas IVF?
Dr. Ku is a very kind and experienced doctor. He is very thorough, explained things well, and very skilled with all procedures. He always seemed to be rooting for my success and I appreciated that very much.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Lowell Ku at Dallas IVF?
He’s a great doctor and that’s why the clinic is always so darn busy.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Lowell Ku at Dallas IVF?
After the first failed IVF attempt (the retrieved eggs didn’t grow past day 3 in the lab), I got the bad news via telephone call from someone in the embryology lab. That person was very blunt and impersonal, which is understandable considering I had no relationship with them at all to begin with. But, I don’t know that the lab techs should be responsible for delivering that kind of sensitive news. I was pretty devastated and that person could not offer me any kind of explanation or consolation as to what exactly happened to my eggs and why. After that, there was no follow up from my doctor or nurses other than a message telling me to call with my next cycle if/when I was ready to try again.
Describe the protocols Lowell Ku used in your cycles at Dallas IVF and their degree of success.
He adjusted estrogen/progesterone doses to help with successful implantation and was NOT quick to cancel the cycle when we noticed the embryos stopped growing. During the retrieval process he was able to adjust the meds as needed for optimum follicle growth.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at Dallas IVF.
They were great. Answered all of my questions timely and were very kind and patient with me.
Describe your experience with Dallas IVF.
Dr. Ku’s front desk staff is very experienced and well-run. They were knowledgeable with billing/insurance and they could work magic when coordinating all of the different labs/procedures/consults into one visit. The receptionist/notary lady in the surgery center was awful in my opinion. On multiple occasions she was rude, inappropriate and came across as judgmental about things that were absolutely none of her business. I dreaded having to deal with her.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Lowell Ku at Dallas IVF.
Painfully expensive and not covered by my insurance at all
Describe Lowell Ku's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Dallas IVF.
He wanted me to be successful and increase my chances by transferring 2 embryos.

We received his name through a recommendation and am so glad we came. Before coming we were lost and confused. We had 2 miscarriages and wanted to understand why this was happening. From the first appointment Dr. Ku made it clear he was with us for the long haul to figure out what was happening. Because if him, we not only found new things out about each of us, but finally felt hopeful for our future with growing our family. Dr. Ku is willing to meet with you to talk about anything and everything. I will (and have) recommended Dr. Ku to friends!
IVF is a very daunting thing to take on. Dr. Ku’s office [Dallas IVF] does work with you some on this. They will allow you to break up your payment into smaller payments ahead of your cycle if you are not able to pay for it at once. They also have access to an ‘in network’ facility if you have coverage for infertility. ... Strengths -Timely (Stick to scheduled times, willing to work with your schedule, and can schedule an appointment pretty quickly) -Organized -Flexibility (Willing to work with your schedule and what works best for you) -Openness (Keep you in the loop if there are changes in schedules or your cycle. I talked to nurses every other day during our first cycle) Weaknesses -None

Come in open minded!
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Lowell Ku at Dallas IVF?
Dr. Ku cares for each of his patients. He is available to talk when you need him. I texted him in a panic while in cycle preparing for egg retrieval and he immediately called me and explained everything. Every time we have gone in, he never rushes us through and makes my husband and I feel so welcome and cared for.

Dr. Ku has recommended that we do a single embryo transfer as we have high chances of it being successful. I am young, and have been able to get pregnant previously. Our struggle has been the maintaining. While I wanted twins, Dr. Ku shared that he would absolutely follow that if we wanted it, but that the chances don’t increase by much doing that and that my health might be affected.

Dr. Mehta has a warm bedside manner. She is intelligent and very thorough when completing tests to determine what may hinder our progress... I live 2 hours away, so she has been flexible by letting me get bloodwork done at a closer location and checking in with me on the phone. She diagnosed me with uterine polyps last year and the procedure went smoothly...

The only thing I had trouble with was having access to my surgery photos. I did have to remind the clinic a couple of times to send them to me...[cost]Probably around 4,000 after consultations, HSG, hysteroscopy, polypectomy surgery, sonograms, ovidrel, and 1 IUI.
How was your experience with Rinku Mehta at Dallas IVF?
Dr. Mehta is friendly, intelligent, and very thorough when determining what may hinder your chances of conception. She has been very positive and goal-oriented throughout our treatment. I live 2 hours away, so she has been flexible by letting me get bloodwork done at a closer location and checking in with me on the phone. She diagnosed me with uterine polyps last year and the procedure went smoothly. When I went back to see her a few months later, she was determined to help me get pregnant within the year. She monitored my first IUI cycle, but was not present during the actual procedure since she was out of town that day. It was not successful, but we will continue treatment with her once the COVID-19 epidemic dies down.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Rinku Mehta at Dallas IVF?
Don't be afraid to ask questions or start treatment. She is there to help you.

I love Dr. Ku's personality and how warm and welcoming he is. He makes really scary and nerve-wracking experiences easy to handle because of his encouragement. The only negative that I have ever experienced with him was one thing in my blood work appeared to be overlooked so I called and spoke to him for clarification. He explained how my protocol would change because of the finding and we moved forward. He is a great doctor and I highly recommend him to anyone in the area.
When we start our IVF cycle (after COVID) [at Dallas IVF] I will be on Gonal F, Menopur, Cetrotide. We will be doing a freeze all cycle with ICSI and PGA testing...I wish we were assigned a specific nurse or two rather than the entire staff. As a patient I feel like I have to go over my entire situation each time I call. I got conflicting information from two different nurses in the same day on different calls. The longer I've been at the clinic, it has gotten better, as there is now a clear understanding of my treatment and where I am at in cycle. When we first started there and were doing recurrent loss testing was when it was confusing.

She [Dr. Sara Mucowski] is very thorough, providing handwritten notes after appointments with every detail. For the IVF process, I appreciated her approach. Others who prefer someone super "warm and fuzzy" may not like her approach. She is empathetic, but direct...There will be a lot of appointments, but Dr Mucowski will be there for all them...My trigger shot was Lupron because I have PCOS and my numbers were high. We did a freeze all cycle, so I did not develop OHSS. I began estrogen shortly after my next period. I was given a choice between progesterone suppositories or progesterone in oil shots. I chose the PIO shots and started those 6 nights prior to my FET.
The entire nursing staff [at Dallas IVF] was wonderful. Very responsive on the portal and returned calls quickly. They also provided detailed instructions. I never felt like I was unsure of what was happening in the process...My insurance covers infertility. However, the Dallas IVF Surgery Center is out of network for all insurances. For all surgical procedures, it was less expensive for me to pay the cash option than go through insurance for out of network costs. For my entire cycle - egg retrieval and frozen embryo transfer, we paid about $10,000 out of pocket.
How was your experience with Sara Mucowski at Dallas IVF?
Dr Mucowski is incredibly intelligent and knows what she is doing. She comes at IVF from a scientific angle. She is very thorough, providing handwritten notes after appointments with every detail. For the IVF process, I appreciated her approach. Others who prefer someone super "warm and fuzzy" may not like her approach. She is empathetic, but direct. Again, I appreciated that for this process after everything we had been through previously.

Dr Mucowski was present for every appointment, other than blood draws. She knew every detail throughout my journey and I appreciated how she handled me.
Describe the protocols Sara Mucowski used in your cycles at Dallas IVF and their degree of success.
Prior to egg retrieval, I was did Gonal-F, Menopur and Ganirellix. My trigger shot was Lupron because I have PCOS and my numbers were high. We did a freeze all cycle, so I did not develop OHSS. I began estrogen shortly after my next period. I was given a choice between progesterone suppositories or progesterone in oil shots. I chose the PIO shots and started those 6 nights prior to my FET.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at Dallas IVF.
The entire nursing staff was wonderful. Very responsive on the portal and returned calls quickly. They also provided detailed instructions. I never felt like I was unsure of what was happening in the process.
Describe your experience with Dallas IVF.
You can always get appointment times that are convenient to you and you never have a long wait. One thing that can get frustrating is that the doctors work out of multiple offices. So they may have you go to different locations for appointments depending on the day your doctor is in that office. That can be a little inconvenient when you're traveling between Dallas and Plano.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Sara Mucowski at Dallas IVF.
My insurance covers infertility.
Describe Sara Mucowski's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Dallas IVF.
Single embryo transfer was strongly recommended. However, she did provide the choice to consider two, but no more.

my blood work showed it was low in one hormone so [first doctor] put me on clomid. Then I switched to Dr Barnett who said I didn’t need the medicine and it would thin out my uterus lining so he took me off. He was right...56 healthy eggs retrieved...One very healthy embryo was transferred...13 weeks pregnant with a healthy baby boy
[Dallas IVF] is a well oiled machine. The staff is phenomenal. There are even nurses who have been through the process themselves and have infinite compassion for you...The clinic is clean and well cared for. The office is organized well for easy entry and exit. Cons is the office waiting room is a little awkward with seating...we spent 25k on the process of IVF maybe $30k with all the medications and visits
How was your experience with Brian Barnett at Dallas IVF?
I loved my doctor! We had this clinic recommended by close friends and could not be happier that we went with them for treatment. The entire office is sensitive and supportive continually! We used them for our egg retrival, and IVF cycle. Their help was available around the clock. You feel more like a family friend than a patient. Our entire process was made smoother with IVF dallas in Frisco.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Brian Barnett at Dallas IVF?
Take a deep breathe. This journey is a hard one but finding the right doctor and put peace back in your heart and control into your hands. There is nothing to relieve the fear of Infertility like the care of a good doctor.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Brian Barnett at Dallas IVF?
Great bedside manner and explanation of the plan and process.
Describe the protocols Brian Barnett used in your cycles at Dallas IVF and their degree of success.
The entire process becomes a blur after it is finished but I will do my best to recount the steps used. At first when testing began my blood work showed it was low in one hormone so the doctor put me on clomid. Then I switched to Dr Barnett who said I didn’t need the medicine and it would thin out my uterus lining so he took me off. He was right. The real issue was my husbands sperm or lack thereof. He had a procedure done known as reverse vesectomy to hopefully clear the blockage. we continued with IVF using extracted sperm during his procedure. Egg retrival began in January of 2018 and I can’t remember all of the drugs we were on but it was a rough month to say the least. Shots and pills and we were staying in a hotel during house renovations to make things nearly comical. Then the procedure was scheduled and we had great success. 56 healthy eggs retrieved. I cried with joy. Then we waited for a full cycle to begin our frozen embryo transfer process. We miraculously got pregnant in our month of waiting. Our darling daughter was born 10 months later and we enjoyed her for two years before starting the process to get our 2nd child. We picked up right where we left off and had a smooth IVF process. One very healthy embryo was transferred. I was on estridiol pills and progesterone in oil shots for 3-4 months and weaned off completely at 13 weeks pregnant with a healthy baby boy.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at Dallas IVF.
The nursing staff is the reason we left our first doctor. The office staff can make or break the entire organization. We couldn’t have been happier with the nurses and their compassionate and educated care at Dallas IVF frisco.
Describe your experience with Dallas IVF.
The clinic is clean and well cared for. The office is organized well for easy entry and exit. Cons is the office waiting room is a little awkward with seating. As a new patient I didn’t find any cons. Honestly, this office is a well oiled machine. The staff is phenomenal. There are even nurses who have been through the process themselves and have infinite compassion for you. It makes the entire process less agonizing.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Brian Barnett at Dallas IVF.
Infertility is expensive. I also believe in you get what you pay for. I would round up that we spent 25k on the process of IVF maybe $30k with all the medications and visits. The frozen embryo transfer was $3,700.00 but then the medication was $698.00 here and $250.00 there. I wasnt focused on keeping track of all the cost but felt I got what I paid for and was satisfied with my care and comfort throughout.

Dr. Ku was compassionate and careful of how he treated patients going through an emotionally strained time...During IUI, we used injectable medications to produce higher/larger follicle count...During IVF treatment, multiple injectable medications were used for egg retrieval process as well as transfer treatment...expresses that he much prefers to transfer one embryo at a time, due to the risk a multiple baby pregnancy can bring to babies and mom...We feel educated and empowered to make our decisions throughout treatment while following his guidance...
the entire nursing staff[of Dallas IVF] are fantastic. Great communicators and they run the clinic smoothly...Total cost of 3 IUIs, egg retrieval, a fresh transfer, and frozen transfer was roughly $35,000. Of this amount, about $25,000 was the total for IVF treatments...They educate you on the cycle and what is happening at all times...They are very open with communication and encourage any and all questions directly to nurse email or by calling the clinic.
How was your experience with Lowell Ku at Dallas IVF?
The only complaint as a patient is the perpetual tardiness we experienced when visiting with Dr. Ku. Oftentimes this was frustrating. However, Dr. Ku was very apologetic each time. This is merely a blimp on our perspective of Dr. Ku overall. Dr. Ku is incredibly compassionate and feels like he is on this journey with us. We feel educated and empowered to make our decisions throughout treatment while following his guidance. It has been a blessing to find Dr. Ku and cannot imagine going through this journey without his care.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Lowell Ku at Dallas IVF?
With Dr Ku, this journey feels just a little less scary because of the level of care he has for his patients/families. We highly recommend him.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Lowell Ku at Dallas IVF?
Dr. Ku was compassionate and careful of how he treated patients going through an emotionally strained time. He first hand understands the trials of infertility and empowers his patients to continue through his understanding demeanor.
Describe the protocols Lowell Ku used in your cycles at Dallas IVF and their degree of success.
During IUI, we used injectable medications to produce higher/larger follicle count. Also suppository progesterone. During IVF treatment, multiple injectable medications were used for egg retrieval process as well as transfer treatment. Including progesterone in oil, blood thinning drug, and oral estrogen. Injectable medications were prescribed during IUI due to the power numbers of follicles. Higher dosages or medications were used during IVF because of low response.
Describe your experience with your nurse at Dallas IVF. (Assigned nurse: Alex)
Alex and the entire nursing staff are fantastic. Great communicators and they run the clinic smoothly.
Describe your experience with Dallas IVF.
Strengths of this clinic are they they feel like a supportive family as you go through this journey and visit the clinic often. They never make you feel rushed or that any question is stupid. They educate you on the cycle and what is happening at all times. They are very open with communication and encourage any and all questions directly to nurse email or by calling the clinic. This clinic sometimes does run late, which can be frustrating when appointment is during the work day.
Describe your experience with your monitoring appointments at Dallas IVF.
Monitoring appointments were thorough and provided opportunity to ask questions and get clarity. We felt informed about everything that was happening along the way.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Lowell Ku at Dallas IVF.
Total cost of 3 IUIs, egg retrieval, a fresh transfer, and frozen transfer was roughly $35,000. Of this amount, about $25,000 was the total for IVF treatments. Costs included medical treatment, sonogram appointments, consultations, counseling, and various medication prescriptions.
Describe Lowell Ku's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Dallas IVF.
Dr. Ku expresses that he much prefers to transfer one embryo at a time, due to the risk a multiple baby pregnancy can bring to babies and mom. He did explain that he would be open and suggest multiple embryo transfer depending on the situation. We had no problems with his approach.

Describe the specific things that went wrong at Dallas IVF.
From one cycle, the pregnancy test results were not called to us. However, this was due to a wrong digit on record for our phone number. This was resolved and no problems occurred again.

The first cycle of IUI [with Dr. Barnett] we did a natural round with a trigger shot and progesterone suppositories .The second round was the same as above but with added clomid days 5-9. The third and fourth were clomid ,follestism injections , trigger and the progesterone suppositories x 14 day until blood test to confirm. We did blood work and sonograms with every cycle. Towards the second - four he got a little more aggressive in hope to get a few more follicles to better out chances of conceiving at the time we were using donor sperm and it increased the cost greatly.
The nursing staff [at Dallas IVF] for the most part was great caring and understanding The nursing staff did have a small problem with communication at times during visit they confused someone else’s informations with ours one example is when my husband had to speak with them about Finacial problems during our last cycle they questioned why it was so expensive and he had to remind them we were having to use donor sperm...one more occasion were they entered telling us our sonogram results were great and they were looking a the wrong patient info. But small misunderstandings and they were great other wise
How was your experience with Brian Barnett at Dallas IVF?
Dr.Barnett was very transparent and straight forward through out our treatment. He explained the treatment plan he was optimistic of a good outcome, but did not provide unrealistic expectations. He told our chances for example he told us couples trying to conceive naturally have a 25 % chance conceiving on any given cycle and that are chances were not greater during IUI treatment. One cycle we did see Dr.Ku and he was very nice and wanted an additional vaginal sonogram total three that cycle which we were not prepared for because on the other three cycles Dr. Barnet only competed two each cycle. We unfortunately did not have the money to complete three as we were paying OOP for everything and both doctors were very understanding and instead of loosing the cycle the gave different instructions we unfortunately still did get a BFP yet
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Brian Barnett at Dallas IVF?
Make sure you ask questions and he does not mind answering them he is very blunt and will not sugar coat them, but kind as well
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Brian Barnett at Dallas IVF?
Dr.Barnet office was nice and everyone made you feel welcome he explained everything so that we understood.

Describe your experience with Dallas IVF.
I do believe the clinic forgets that the cost for people paying out of pocket is greater when insurance doesn’t cove. I feel they should be a little more sensitive to that at times. They are very Kind during visit and weight time for most cost was very short
Describe the costs associated with your care under Brian Barnett at Dallas IVF.
I spent a approx 10-14 grand on four IUI and other diagnostic procedures and labs . We also had to use donor sperm which increased the cost

She [Dr. Sara Mucowski] seemed like she was pushing us to go straight to IVF when there really didn’t seem to be a reason to start so aggressively. She didn’t seem confident in IUI and did not really provide a reason why...was not friendly or warm. I felt like she was treating me different for being LGBT...While in her office I felt like I was inconveniencing her. She rarely smiled and responded to my questions in a way that made me feel like I was a complete idiot.
Nothing stood out with me with regards to the nurses [at Dallas IVF]. I know I was left sitting waiting for labs for a bit. I also was instructed to pee in a cup but not shown where the bathroom is or where to find a cup. A different doctor in the practice actually stopped and helped me after seeing I was lost...The front office and billing was insulting and only concerned with getting their money. The doctor was not friendly or warm. I felt like she was treating me different for being LGBT.
How was your experience with Sara Mucowski at Dallas IVF?
She was not a warm person to be around. She was very matter of fact and removed a polyp during a test with only a simple “hey if we find one are you okay with us removing it” and of course signing a consent. The potential additional costs were never relayed until after I walked out. She did not inform me of the potential pain that would come during or after any test. I left each visit excited about the process but lacking in confidence in her.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Sara Mucowski at Dallas IVF?
Go to a different doctor.

Describe your experience with Dallas IVF.
I don’t really know of any strengths since I had such a negative experience. The front office and billing insulted me and accused me of trying to cheat my insurance company. I told them I wanted to pay cash for my tests, since I knew I didn’t have fertility coverage, and they billed my insurance anyway and I was left with double the bill which they refused to fix.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Sara Mucowski at Dallas IVF.
I had my testing done there, which my insurance doesn’t cover. $400 for one, and then was supposed to be $600 for another test - they removed a polyp though and charged me double $1800. I don’t think she even used any additional tools to do it. Makes it seem like all the clinic cares about is the money.

I like how Dr. Ku doesn’t sugar coat anything and makes all the statistics and information easy to understand and realistic. I appreciated the times he would sit down and write down notes that we could take home. I also appreciated the human side of him, this is one of his strengths. I also think he tries really hard to get you to a baby, he doesn’t seem to waste a lot of time to get you there...be prepared to hear a lot of numbers, statistics,& odds. He is really good at giving it to you straight.
[The nurses at Dallas IVF are] Compassionate, genuine,& concerned when things didn’t go as planned or with the expected outcome...Reasonably priced and very comparable to other clinics. Maybe even better priced...Great clinic, great location, staff are easy to communicate with. The clinic staff made me feel welcome. I do appreciate them taking time to clarify anything that I might have a question on. The staff do not hesitate to ask the doctor if they don’t know the answer and they are good at making sure that they are available to you, via phone or email throughout your time with them.

He has a warm bedside manner and tries to understand his patients on a personal level. He explains things well and at your level.
Describe the protocols Lowell Ku used in your cycles at Dallas IVF and their degree of success.
Our first cycle was met with OHSS. Dr.Ku prevented me from getting worse and gave my body time to recover from it before moving onto a transfer. Our first transfer ended in miscarriage. He gave us time to mentally recoup and physically recover from that. When the 2nd transfer time came around, he changed my protocol to one that is for patient with multiple losses. I appreciated his quick adjustment to what was happening (based upon my history and my own personal needs and desires)

I love how honest and upfront he [Dr. Barnett] is. He is very confident in his abilities and it made me feel at ease. He had not problem adjusting the course of action when my body wasn’t responding the way we anticipated. ... I liked that a surgery center was right next door with their own staff for retrievals and transfers. ... Allie and Shelly [Dallas IVF nurses] are amazing. How was your experience with Brian Barnett at Dallas IVF?
I love how honest and upfront he is. He is very confident in his abilities and it made me feel at ease. He had not problem adjusting the course of action when my body wasn’t responding the way we anticipated. He explains everything, writes it’s our and even draws pictures then sends you home with what was written out to refer to later. My personality type meshed well with his, I want the facts and I want to know he’s got it handled. He never came across cold, he has 3 daughters himself. He’s compassionate but in a very secure matter-of-face way that I appreciated.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Brian Barnett at Dallas IVF?
Don’t be afraid to ask questions. He can talk fast but will always stop to ask if you understand. Don’t hesitate to say no. He will find another way to explain it. This is YOUR treatment plan, you need to understand what your body will be going through. There’s no shame in that. I came with questions written out in case I forgot and I found it very helpful.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Brian Barnett at Dallas IVF?
Dr. Barnett answered every question I had but also got to know my husband and me. He asked how my husband’s job was every time we saw him and discussed his own family. We interacted more with the nursing staff but they too were beyond friendly and accommodating.
Describe the protocols Brian Barnett used in your cycles at Dallas IVF and their degree of success.
Because I have H.A I needed a lot more medication to stimulus my follicles. Cycle 1 we did a week of clomid and he stopped that because there weren't any results, we went straight to injectables. At home intercourse...no pregnancy. Went for round 2 with IUI but had to cancel due to a family emergency and I needed to fly to California. He wouldn’t continue because the risk of OHS was too high. I came back and we decided IVF but with 4x the amount of injectables bc of how my body responds. I was in every other day getting checked with sono’s and bloodwork. Dr. Barnett did the egg retrieval, 9 mature and in the end sent 3 to PGS-T testing. Will do the FET sometime in November.
Describe your experience with your nurse at Dallas IVF. (Assigned nurse: Shelly and Allie )
Allie and Shelly are amazing. They showed such compassion and every time I was in there we laughed together. You have to while going through this. They ask about my husband and my dog every time. Stacey the sonographer is probably the golden egg of that whole place. Everyone loves her and I couldn’t imagine having anyone else. Having a sono 5x a week is difficult, and she explains every image and takes her time telling you what she’s looking for or what’s ideal.
Describe your experience with Dallas IVF.
The place is very clean. The staff was great. I have no complaints. I liked that a surgery center was right next door with their own staff for retrievals and transfers. The couches are very comfortable too!
Describe the costs associated with your care under Brian Barnett at Dallas IVF.
Insurance covered the majority of it.
Describe Brian Barnett's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Dallas IVF.
He said “we do single embryo transfer here.” And that was the end of it. I’m not the right candidate for multiple embryo transfers nor do I want that so I didn’t ask for him to elaborate. I know he has stressed the health risks of multiples to us before while I was on the high dose of Menopur.

I had rough appointments with having PCOS and my body not cooperating like it should, but he [Dr. Brian Barnett] has always been compassionate and invested in my husband and I...He is pretty blunt. Know that going in, there is no "beating around the bush". His compassion grows as he knows and is around you...had me do lab work in my first visit so any alterations needed in my health could be made promptly. When I began a new cycle, we scheduled my HSG test, which came back clear, and he put me on a birth control pill just for that cycle in order to keep it short (since I have a history of very long cycles).
I have not been to the Frisco or Dallas office [of Dallas IVF], but Dr.Barnett and a small team of nurses are in Tyler one day a week, on Tuesdays. The only weakness I have found is I wish they were in Tyler more than one day a week. However, they do work well with other offices and allow some ultrasounds and labs outside of the office...When we began this medicated cycle, I was given a calendar filled out with easy to follow directions as to what to do or take on what day. When I had any questions about medication or lab results his nurses were very prompt to get back with me and made me feel like I was their only patient. Amazing group of nurses.
How was your experience with Brian Barnett at Dallas IVF?
I have been seeing Dr. Barnett for 5 months, he made a plan for us in the beginning with what tests are necessary and when to do them. At each visit he has sat down to explain exactly what to do next after each visit assessment. I never felt over whelmed with medication, or timing of things to be done throughout the cycle. I had rough appointments with having PCOS and my body not cooperating like it should, but he has always been compassionate and invested in my husband and I.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Brian Barnett at Dallas IVF?
He is pretty blunt. Know that going in, there is no "beating around the bush". His compassion grows as he knows and is around you.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Brian Barnett at Dallas IVF?
I feel like Dr.Barnett is invested in my husband and I. We are young, very young to be having these obstacles (early twenties), and he is and has worked hard to help us achieve our goal and understand what might be the best thing for us to do.
Describe the protocols Brian Barnett used in your cycles at Dallas IVF and their degree of success.
I was diagnosed in September of 2018 with PCOS. In the following May, my OB referred me to Dr.Barnett after not responding well to my fourth failed round of chlomid. Dr. Barnett had me do lab work in my first visit so any alterations needed in my health could be made promptly. When I began a new cycle, we scheduled my HSG test, which came back clear, and he put me on a birth control pill just for that cycle in order to keep it short (since I have a history of very long cycles). When I started my next cycle, I began letrozole, my body responded very well in that i had three mature follicles. On cycle day 11 we were told to "baby dance", on cycle day 12, in the office, I was given the ovidrel trigger shot. We were directed to "baby dance" on cycle day 13 and 14. On day 15 I began progesterone suppositories until my negative hcg test. This was my first treated cycle under the care of Dr. Barnett so far. Even though I just found out yesterday we are not pregnant, I feel like this was our first real shot and we are ready to go again.

Describe the costs associated with your care under Brian Barnett at Dallas IVF.
My ultrasounds or consultations (with insurance) were approximately $50 each, HSG was partially covered by my insurance, out of pocket was $50, ovidrel, letrozole and progesterone was aproximatelt 200 for one cycle.

Dr. Ku is incredible. I'm not sure if I've ever come across a doctor who cares about his patients more - he has a huge heart, and takes time to explain EVERYTHING. You walk out of his office each and every time feeling totally comfortable and taken care of. He is ethical, moral and SMART. I'm a 'high-risk' case and he has made me feel 'at ease' every week!...Dr. Ku saw me every week due to a high-risk pregnancy (scar tissue in the uterus).
[Dallas IVF] Very clean, convenient no wait-times. Feels modern and up-to-date. Everything runs smoothly (check-in and check-out) are seamless. Billing is straight-forward. Just what you would want in a clinic. Appointments are available when needed. The doctor is accessible at all times....[nursing staff] Always incredibly friendly, warm and up-to-date on my specific case. No wait times - attentive and communicative ALWAYS.

Dr. Ku saw me every week due to a high-risk pregnancy (scar tissue in the uterus). He did weekly ultrasounds to monitor the baby in relation to the scar-tissue. It's very rare but he greeted me with warmth and positivity and most importantly, information, each and every visit.

Success w/ Doc Too early to know
Dr. Ku clearly reads over your chart and remembers the past visits you’ve had with him each time you come to his office. He understands the urgency of wanting to be pregnant while also reassuring you that he’s going to do everything he can to get you there even if it takes a little bit of time...With knowing our insurance doesn’t cover the costs of infertility he is open to doing clomid with H.I while waiting for our savings to catch up for IUI or IVF.
The clinic [Dallas IVF] is very welcoming, clean and bright. Not gloomy or cold and scary. When you come in there is a snack area with snacks and food with a mini refrigerator with water for patients during their normally short wait time. The nursing staff asks you to sign in and immediately let’s your doctor know you are there...[The nurses are] Very quiet but also interacted well with patience when needed. Very kind and organized.
How was your experience with Lowell Ku at Dallas IVF?
My experience as a patient with Dr. Ku is that I feel he takes what we are going through very seriously and is willing to help us in any way he can. With knowing our insurance doesn’t cover the costs of infertility he is open to doing clomid with H.I while waiting for our savings to catch up for IUI or IVF.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Lowell Ku at Dallas IVF?
Don’t be afraid to ask questions. He is more than willing to answer them. If you want to try something that’s not a traditional treatment, if he can help with that he will.

From day one I was given a vaginal ultrasound, bloodwork, and we went over the results that same day. Dr. Ku saw no reason to rush things along and recommended we start with opk’s and H.I. A year later we came back and had more bloodwork done and another vaginal ultrasound. We also decided to have my husbands sperm tested and were unfortunately told he had low counts. We were then referred to a male fertility specialist to handle his low counts. He prescribed HCG to help boost his sperm count and production rate. After about 6 months we check his sperm count again and were relieved to find out his counts were now above normal. After finding that out we were advised to try H.I and see if that worked. About 6 months of not getting pregnant even after boosting his counts we decided it was time to go and talk about IUI. Knowing IUI is expensive, we wanted to see when we could get it scheduled. Which turns out isn’t a hassle or a wait time like we had anticipated. So when we went in to talk to Dr. Ku he was ready for it. Very supporting and understanding. When we told him we needed to wait just a couple more months to save the money he then prescribed clomid with H.I and said maybe this can work and if not it’s not expensive and we are still prepared for IUI. Now we wait to start the first round of clomid.

[Dr. Ku is] warm and friendly and makes you feel human and seen and heard. He went through IVF a with his wife so he truly understands the emotional toll it takes on you each cycle. He showed empathy and compassion through our loss and seems to really want to see us get a healthy baby...We did a FET with one embryo. He had me on PIO, lovenox, baby aspirin, and estrace...He was very willing to transfer two embryos but given my history with difficult pregnancies, we chose one.
I never had to leave a message for the nurse [at Dallas IVF], always went straight through to her which was awesome! She was always kind and organized and thorough...There was some differing information given between the nursing staff and the surgery center next door where the transfer takes place. The front office staff at the surgery center isn’t the kindest or warmest...The transfer was $3400 which is quite high compared to other doctors and insurance won’t cover it.

The office is busy so there was always a wait which can be frustrating when you’re told to hold your bladder. But they always made up for the wait and once even gave us a Starbucks gift card. The ladies at the front were always nice and quick to get us checked out. Scheduling can be difficult because of how busy they are.

The transfer was $3400 which is quite high compared to other doctors and insurance won’t cover it. Office visits for us were $10 copays. Storage for embryos at their clinic was $800 a year which also seems high.

After egg retrieval [with Dr. Ku] I rested my body for one month. Then I began estrogen and progesterone for the month leading to the frozen embryo transfer...I asked for 2 embryos and my doctor said it would be unethical knowing I would likely get pregnant with one. He said if I had a healthy first pregnancy that he would consider putting in two for my second transfer...once I was pregnant I was dealing with the nurses and rarely connected with him. If I needed something specific he was responsive!
[Dallas IVF has] Nice waiting room and patient rooms. Staff is kind and organized. Sometimes they are vague and unable to explain costs or protocols. When I was stress and concerned I felt passed of instead of being given direct answers and given time with the doctor [Dr. Ku]. Loved the ultrasound techs and their attention to detail...once I was pregnant I was dealing with the nurses and rarely connected with him. If I needed something specific he was responsive!
How was your experience with Lowell Ku at Dallas IVF?
Dr. Ku has great bedside manner. He is compassionate and understanding of both soon to be parents. He was ethical and honest. I felt like I was in good hands and trusted his expertise. Once I became pregnant I felt a bit shuffled off and wished I had more time with him.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Lowell Ku at Dallas IVF?
Ask to communicate with him directly if you really have a concern.

I was given folistem, menipure, and ganarelix prior to the egg retrieval to stimulate egg production. After egg retrieval I rested my body for one month. Success w/ Doc Too early to know
Dr. Ku gives you his cell number to text with questions which I did a few times. I messed up on my injections one night and text him to confirm what I had done would be ok. All he had to do was text back, but he called me to make sure I was ok...then proceeded to give me restaurant suggestions while I was in town. If you need someone with a caring bedside manner, this is him!! A frustration I had tho, was that I only saw him once during my 2 week work up to the retrieval.
This clinic [Dallas IVF- Frisco] is top-notch! From the moment of me calling to make an appointment to me leaving at my egg retrieval, everything was great! It is very clean and cute! The Decour is really trendy. They are like a well oiled machine. You are in an out and will not wait for more than 15 minutes for your appointment. I would suggest letting them know that you will be self-pay though. If you do not tell them you are paying out-of-pocket they will send it to your insurance which adds thousands of dollars!
How was your experience with Lowell Ku at Dallas IVF?
Dr. Ku is amazing and very caring! He diagnosed me with polyps on my first appointment which delayed my IVF process but had me in surgery within a week to keep me on track. He is very thorough along with his staff. The sonographer Stacy is amazing and is key in your treatments! Between the two of them, it’s a stellar team! They both knew my name within just a few appointments! Dr. Ku gives you his cell number to text with questions which I did a few times. I felt like I was being cared for by nurses and the sonographer. I had to take comfort in the fact that they took my progress to him and he was making all of the decisions. Everything worked out perfectly tho! I have 2 embryos now and we’ve never gotten that far. Another frustrating aspect was that I had to jump through hoops to get my records to him and I don’t think he ever read them which made me nervous. He asked questions all of the time that I thought were odd bc he should have known them from my chart. Overall, God led me to Ku and I am forever thankful for that.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Lowell Ku at Dallas IVF?
DOn’t hesitate to ask questions. He is very nice but sometimes tended to seem busy and in a hurry. He always spent the time with me I needed but I could tell he was trying to move on to the next patient. I’m sure it’s bc I was asking unnecessary questions and he didn’t want me to worry. He always kept me feeling positive and never wanted me to worry.

Describe the protocols Lowell Ku used in your cycles at Dallas IVF and their degree of success.
Due to my previous 2 stims rounds not producing great size follicles, he had me do a very different protocol. He had me on 350 follistem, 3:1 Menopur, and microdose Lupron with a handful of vitamins. My previous dr had me on follistem, omnitrope, testosterone, microdose Lupron, and 35 extra vitamins.
Describe your experience with your nurse at Dallas IVF. (Assigned nurse: Alexa)
The entire nursing staff was amazing! They would all look up and smile; some wood even come to hug me. The phlebotomist wasn’t great at getting blood out though. She was so sweet but always hurt and bruised me. My nurse was so sweet and caring. She would call almost every afternoon to check on me! The entire nursing team seems very knowledgeable including the front desk staff.

Describe the costs associated with your care under Lowell Ku at Dallas IVF.
IVF with genetic testing is $11,200. However my meds were $7,000 and there is probably an additional $5,000 in appointment fees. I took a loan for $30,000 to be covered. Plus I paid $1500 in a 2-week stay at a hotel nearby.
Describe Lowell Ku's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Dallas IVF.
He likes to do single embryo transfers, but he said he bends the rules for each patient. Since I’ve had a transfer where 2 didn’t stick he would consider putting 2 in again.
What specific things went wrong at Dallas IVF?

Describe the specific things that went wrong at Dallas IVF.
Nothing wrong really happened while I was undergoing treatment but I kept waiting for someone to let me know about my husband semen analysis. I called four times and emailed a handful of times and no one could tell me if they received his results. It was almost a month or more before I finally got an answer. Everyone I spoke to couldn’t understand why I wasn’t getting my answer but it all worked out.
