Attention to Detail
Attention to detail is on a 1 - 10 scale, and is scored based on the rate, and severity, of errors committed by the clinic according to the patients.
For example, a severe error might be failing to inform a patient of critical information, while a small error might be failing to call a patient with results.
CDC Success Rates
This is the most recent data from the CDC. The CDC cautions that it should not be used to compare doctors and clinics. This data represents the outcomes of IVF cycles when using a person's own eggs.
For more information please see our FAQs.
Where you see a “?” on the chart, a clinic has done fewer than 20 cycles in this category and age range, so the CDC says showing percentages from this small data set would be misleading and unreliable.
Dr Miller takes the time to sit and discuss any questions I may have. He’s up front and honest, but in a kind way. I always felt like he was realistic about what we could expect...I started seeing him prior to ever trying for kids because of PCOS. Little did I know I’d need to see him again for infertility. He remembered my history and was very good at explaining each aspect of our infertility journey..
[the Fertility Center nurses were great] I never had any questions of what I was supposed to be doing or what was going on with our fertility treatment...The clinic is clean, efficient, friendly, and generally ran on time. It was not often that I had to wait long to be seen. I always felt comfortable with each member of the team. Everyone always introduced themselves and explained every step of the process I would be doing that day. They were quick to inform me of any results as well.

Describe the protocols Paul Miller used in your cycles at Fertility Center of the Carolinas and their degree of success.
Initially started with femara and progesterone due to PCOS. Very quickly along the way, we discovered both my husband and I are CF carriers. He immediately recommended moving to IVF so that we could test the embryos for cystic fibrosis
Describe your experience with your nurse at Fertility Center of the Carolinas. (Assigned nurse: Susan )
Everyone there was excellent. I never had any questions of what I was supposed to be doing or what was going on with our fertility treatment. Everyone was so kind and encouraging and very excited when our embryo transfer was successful

Approx $16,000 total. Most was covered by my insurance.
Describe Paul Miller's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Fertility Center of the Carolinas.
They strongly recommended only one embryo be transferred. They explain to us that IVF already has an increased possibility of multiples and that a miscarriage of one embryo could harm the other embryo.
There are not enough good things to say about Dr. Likes. He is truly everything you want in a fertility specialist. To begin with, he makes you feel heard and seen. He never rushed us through any of our appointments. Every question we had was answered and with great clarity. Next, he is on your side! I left feeling like he was just as hopeful as we were that our treatment would be a success. Last, he made sure we always knew our options and that WE were the ones in control of what steps would be taken next in our fertility journey. A wonderful, caring doctor!
The entire staff at FCC is amazing. I have no complaints about this clinic. They always make you feel welcome and are so kind. During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Creighton Likes at Fertility Center of the Carolinas?
Dr. Likes immediately made us feel comfortable upon speaking with him at our initial consultation. He asked us questions and asked what questions we had. He made sure we completely understood our options and that we knew we were in control of what steps we would take next in our fertility journey.
Describe the protocols Creighton Likes used in your cycles at Fertility Center of the Carolinas and their degree of success.
We began on a Femara 7.5 daily dose for days 3-5 of my cycle. After one cycle on that, and getting the results from my husband’s semen analysis, Dr. Likes suggested we try IUI. We began our first round with an Ovidrel 250 mcg trigger shot, and after several rounds, Dr.Likes suggested adding Gonal-F injections as well to help with follicle stimulation. We started with 75 units on days 7, 8 and 9 of my cycle. I also had an HSG test done to make sure that there were no bloackages in my Fallopian tubes. Everything came back clear. After this, we had 3 more IUIS. Dr. Likes recommended maxing out around this number as the chances tend to decrease after 3-4 rounds, but we were told we were welcome to keep pursuing this treatment if we wanted to. After 5 failed IUI cycles, we were told that our best chances of conception would be through IVF, due to low sperm count. We are currently saving money to pursue this option.

Insurance covered most costs. The most we paid out of pocket was around $250 for a consultation when our deductible had not yet been met.

I have always felt like a human under Dr. Greens care. She has a friendly and energetic personality whether you speak to her in person or video. Dr. Green is very personal in her delivery of information. She calls me by name and also ask how my "outside" life is going. How was your experience with Lisa Green at Fertility Center of the Carolinas?
From our visit video conference, I felt Dr. Green had a pleasant voice and demeanor. She asked a ton of questions to get a background on me and also my partner. My first virtual appointment lasted close to a hour. She recommended different testing that I hadn't done in a while to get an update for my records. My first in person appointment i felt comfortable as she performed the test because she kept the room light and talked me through what she saw. She came up with a plan that included different medications that my other doctor hadn't prescribed. I saw her for my IUI a month later. My IUI was unsuccessful so I wanted to move on to IVF. It took a while to get an appointment and I ended up with a virtual appointment. Dr. Green listened to me talk about not wanting another IUI and the success I could have with IVF. She explained the success rate with IVF and even told me about a grant through her clinic I could apply for. After our conversation, I felt like she had explained IVF to me in a way that she was also supporting my decision to move on. The next day I had appointment to update my labwork.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Lisa Green at Fertility Center of the Carolinas?
Be patient if you're not able to get an appointment right away.

Describe the protocols Lisa Green used in your cycles at Fertility Center of the Carolinas and their degree of success.
One of Dr. Greens treatment strategies were using a higher dosage of medicine for my IUI cycle. After she looked over my old chart, she realized my previous doctor hadn't tried a certain medicine to take during my cycle nor a certain shot for ovulation. Her rationale was she wanted to overestimate my ovaries in order to have sperm meet an egg. The IUI was unsuccessful

Describe your experience with Fertility Center of the Carolinas.
One of the clinics strengths is their wait time. I've never had a true wait time when I had an appointment.
One the clinic weakness is their communication with finances upfront. I've been to another fertility doctor before so I knew to ask about how much my copay would be before an appointment except for one time. For a test Dr. Green described, I was not told how much I had to pay prior to having a test. I feel like they should tell patients when they set up appointments how much their treatment will be so they are prepared.
As a new patient I would ask questions about insurance and co-pays before appointments to make sure it is affordable.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Lisa Green at Fertility Center of the Carolinas.
I fortunately have infertility insurance so my co-pays haven't been that much. I did have to pay close to $600 upfront for a procedure that I was not told about when I made the appointment. I am currently waiting to see if my insurance will approve IVF.

How competent was Fertility Center of the Carolinas at LGBTQ+ care?
Yes!
Describe your experience using 3rd party reproduction (donor eggs, donor sperm, or gestational carrier) at Fertility Center of the Carolinas.
We used Cryos International. We simply gave Cryos our doctors information and address and the sample was sent and arrived on time.
Dr. Miller often repeats himself to ensure that we understand. He uses layman's terms right after he uses the medical terminology (which I love!) - and I don't even have to ask him to do that. It's a reminder to me that he knows we are human and may not know medical terms. He is honest about expectations, but always emotionally reassures us that he will do everything he can for us....
From the front desk to the back exam rooms [at Fertility Center of the Carolinas], EVERY single person is compassionate and caring...I use MyChart - and the nurses are SO freakin' quick on there in responding to questions, comments, and concerns! How was your experience with Paul Miller at Fertility Center of the Carolinas?
Dr. Miller is:
-Precise
-Attentive
-Asks questions
-Is open to lots of questions being asked by us
-Is treating both my husband AND myself, so he truly knows the full picture
-Honest
-Suggestive in treatment options
-Warm and empathetic

-Gives us hope
-FUNNY! Man, Dr. Miller is funny!
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Paul Miller at Fertility Center of the Carolinas?
Dr. Miller acts like he is your friend from the moment you meet him. There was never any kind of awkwardness during our consult or during any subsequent visits. He looks at both my husband and I when talking, not just to one of us. This helps because it makes us both feel included. I love his transparency on everything - the good, the bad, and the ugly.

We have only done IUIs so far, so I can't speak to IVF protocols. What I can say is this: Our first IUI was with just Femara pills for me and Clomid pills for my husband. The follicles weren't as abundant or mature as we would have liked. Next IUI round, Dr. Miller adjusted my Femara dose AND added an hCG trigger shot, which yielded much better numbers of follicles in each ovary!

From the front desk to the back exam rooms, EVERY single person is compassionate and caring. I love that they have a deep understanding of our reasoning for being at their clinic in the first place, and give lots of sympathy and empathy because of it. I truly do not have any weaknesses to state about my clinic.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Paul Miller at Fertility Center of the Carolinas.
I have insurance that does not cover ANYTHING! So everything is out of pocket.
IUIs: $300 for follicle Ultrasound and ~$500 for the IUI itself. The trigger shot was $103
Describe Paul Miller's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Fertility Center of the Carolinas.
We did talk about the number if IVF was the road we needed to go down (which it's now confirmed through failed IUIs that we need IVF), he did say a max of 2 embryos. We are totally okay with that!
Dr. Likes was very down to earth and friendly. He is easy to talk to. With fertility issues, I feel like that's a really important quality to have. I didn't feel embarrassed to communicate any problems or questions to him. He didn't seem to talk down to me or above my head. I could talk to him like I would talk to a friend. I felt as if he truly cared about me and my outcome. He was open to anything I suggested or any questions I had. Sometimes I think I asked the same questions multiple times but he never seemed frustrated or like I was wasting his time.
I think this [Fertility Center of Carolinas] facility is wonderful...The clinical staff, the doctors, and Candace (who helped me from the financial end with info) were wonderful. They seem as if they never have a bad day and truly enjoy being at work and doing what they are doing. The ladies that check you in at the front desk are not as friendly but that didn't matter as much to me.

Be 100% honest and don't be afraid to ask whatever you're thinking. There are questions/fears you may have along the way that you feel are irrational and you don't want to verbalize to him, but if you do you'll be glad you did.

I felt like Dr. Likes and his staff were very personal. They would call me by name if they saw me on the elevator or hallway. They truly make you feel like family. After IVF or surgery the doctor himself called to check on me and I appreciated that. I feel like it's rare to get that anymore and I truly felt like this office cared about me and the results I got.
Describe the protocols Creighton Likes used in your cycles at Fertility Center of the Carolinas and their degree of success.
I don't remember everything, but we started with oral femara and then a trigger shot of Ovidrel for 3 cycles, moved to IUI, and then did 2 egg retrievals and 2 IVF transfers, which both failed. I had a surgery done and after that we started back at step one with femara and the Ovidrel.
Describe your experience with your nurse at Fertility Center of the Carolinas. (Assigned nurse: Susan & Lynn)
I love that they communicate through mychart and utilize that. I work full time and when I get a phone call through the day may be in a hurry and not take in all of the info or question what I heard. With mychart I could look at the info at my convenience and re-read it as many times as I wanted and then ask any questions I came up with. Susan and Lynn were always patient and kind as well as encouraging. Lynn was especially encouraging and probably didn't realize that there were days that her words of encouragement were just what I needed that day. They are great! The ultrasound techs are equally as great!

I think this facility is wonderful. Besides Dr. Likes, I also saw Dr. Green a few times and Dr. Von Hoff once. They were also wonderful. Dr. Green is really kind and uplifting. Describe the costs associated with your care under Creighton Likes at Fertility Center of the Carolinas.
I really don't remember. IVF was expensive. The medications for IVF and IUI were expensive. I feel like the one IUI was around $1800. Fertility is an exclusion for my insurance so ultrasounds were about $250 per ultrasound for me.
Describe Creighton Likes's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Fertility Center of the Carolinas.
He did express that he felt like a single embryo transfer was best, but seemed open to doing two if we preferred.
Dr. Likes is very knowledgeable and receptive to discuss issues with us in depth. But I do feel like you need to be your own advocate and make sure you are heard...First IVF - lupron, gonal-f, and menopour. We tried to do metformin beforehand so as to not have OHSS but it made me too sick. Second IVF - same protocol. Good results with both cycles in so far as eggs retrieved...First cycle we did a fresh transfer and transferred two. Second cycle we decided to transfer only one embryo.
The clinic [Fertility Center of the Carolinas] is convenient and good. The front desk staff is nice and they know who you are. You are seen quickly and not waiting long for appointments. They work to get convenient appointment times when undergoing ivf...They have a lot of patients but no one knows your case better than you do. Be your own advocate... we struggle some with the nursing staff. There are 2 nurses and they don’t communicate well together and one nurse doesn’t handle your case. They only send mychart messages and don’t call to discuss things over the phone. You have to stay on top of them sometimes. Susan is great and nice and well seasoned in infertility. Alice is not good and isn’t a good communicator. We really like Sherri the ultrasound tech. We also really like Candace, the financial coordinator.

Make your own list of items to discuss and be your own patient advocate. Take notes of your appointment. They have a lot of patients but no one knows your case better than you do. What specific things went wrong at Fertility Center of the Carolinas?
Failed to call in prescriptions to pharmacy
Failed to inform you of changes in protocol
Provided conflicting information
Failed to consider drug intolerance
Describe the specific things that went wrong at Fertility Center of the Carolinas.
Had to remind the nurses of a discussed change in protocol.
Had to ask for prescriptions to be called in again (but that could have easily been the fault of pharmacy and not the clinic - as pharmacies can be difficult).
Dr. Green was very peppy and upbeat, she maintained a positive and encouraging -yet realistic attitude throughout my treatment. She explained things on a level my non-medical husband could understand, and was very thorough in laying out our options and odds of success for each pathway. ... Both Alice and Susan were phenomena [nurses]l. They laid out clear outlines of what to expect and when to reach out with concerns. I felt extremely prepared for all stages - medication administration, what to expect at each appointment, etc. ... The front desk staff [Fertility Center of the Carolinas] is friendly and warm. They recognize you after a few visits and give personalized greetings. The waiting room has TV -usually on HGTV, a Keurig with various pods available and a variety of magazines per most waiting areas. Typically a short wait time unless they get really behind - but they keep you updated so yo don't feel forgotten.

Write down questions before your visits. I always ended up sending another message to her full of questions I forgot to ask (which she patiently answered), but it would have been easier to ask in person during our visits.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Lisa Green at Fertility Center of the Carolinas?
Dr. Green made me feel like a friend. Every time we met she was very personal, explaining things and recalling information discussed on previous visits. She (and the RN staff) were truly rooting for my success and made me feel like they were in it with me. She even came to visit and bring me flowers when we delivered our health baby boy.

Sperm motility was our main issue, after one failed IUI, we were able to move straight to IVF without having to go through a certain number of failed IUIs as I have heard others requiring...I am so thankful for that - from a money and emotional stand point.
We chose to only implant one embryo at a time, for higher and safer odds, and though my baby was born prematurely - he was healthy and did not require a NICU stay.
Our original plan was to do a fresh transfer, but I showed signs/developed ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome so we deferred to a frozen transfer to be safe.

For 1 round of IUI, and 1 round of IVF plus all medications my total cost out of pocket was probably $6-8k. Very lucky with my insurance.
Describe Lisa Green's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Fertility Center of the Carolinas.
Dr. Green recommended that we only transfer one embryo at a time, due to age and chance of splitting after implantation. She laid out all of the odds and risks associated with twin pregnancies (I also work in a NICU and was hyper-aware of these and did not want to take any chances). Ultimately she told us it was our decision but we agreed that we wanted to only implant one embryo at a time.
I first started out on Femara and Ovidrel (trigger shot) [with Dr. Likes]. We kept increasing the dose and checking my blood levels. We have done Gonal F injections, increasing those medications based on my follicle count. We starting doing a second HCG shot 1 week after the trigger shot to support my HCG levels and also adding progesterone suppositories...There was always a specific plan just for me. He is always trying something to help like tweaking the medicine or adding extra care.
From the time you check in [to Fertility Center of the Carolinas] to the time you check out, every one is very friendly. And once you have been going there for a while, like me, they actually remember you and what you are going through. Sometimes they get a little behind and you have to wait a while, but I have never waited longer than 15 mins...The nurses actually remember you and ask you questions about personal life or how I was doing in general.
How was your experience with Creighton Likes at Fertility Center of the Carolinas?
Every time we see Dr. Likes, he sits beside us and talks to us like we are real people. He answers any questions with great detail. He understands I like to know every detail of the process and is very honest with me. He is good at giving us different sides to each treatment that way we can make an informed decision.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Creighton Likes at Fertility Center of the Carolinas?
Bring any questions you have and write them down. Sometimes you can get off the track and forget. Also, he talks fast but just tell him to slow down!

My husband works at GHS, so I am on his insurance. Before we meet our deductible, ultrasounds are usually around $250, blood work is around $50, medications vary from $5-$100.
He [Dr. Miller] is a very good and caring doctor! He is direct and forward with things! He makes sure to cover all areas, even other health concerns. Other doctors haven’t cared about that side of things. I have heart problems and he keeps up on the cardiology side of things. We are trying to plan for IVF and he has informed us of the steps and process thoroughly.... Be direct and be prepared that he will be direct and not sugar coat things.
The [Fertility Center of the Carolinas] are very friendly and welcoming. The are helpful and care about their patients. Their goal is to make every set of patients from just a couple into parents and a family. One of the only weaknesses I know of with this office is that it takes the nurses a little to long to get back with information sometimes and when in a cycle timing is everything.... There have been times I was in a cycle and time was on the line and the cycle was on the verge of being messed up

My insurance has covered a lot. We are about to do IVF and sadly our insurance will not cover any of that procedure and as anyone knows it is very expensive. We are having to put all of our saving into it and working hard at saving more to make this happen. Sad part is it makes it tight financially if we do get pregnant from this.

The only thing i can say they could do better. When calling the nurses line, I believe there needs to be a faster response. There have been times I was in a cycle and time was on the line and the cycle was on the verge of being messed up because of not calling back fast enough.
Dr. Miller takes his time with us. That is important to me. I feel like he sees me as an individual and not just another patient bringing in money. He is sincere and supportive. I would highly recommend him to anyone seeking treatment for infertility...We tried Femara and injections, but I had a modest response. He then took the time to meet with us and discuss our options. He gave us a couple of options, and we chose IVF. He then arranged for us to meet with their finance person in order to get an idea of cost. Based on a suspicion of endometriosis, we opted to do a laparoscopy to give Dr. Miller a chance to look around as well as to treat me for severe cramping during menstruation. He found two areas that were causing my pain. While I was in recovery, he took the time to speak with my family and answer all of their questions.
The nursing staff [at Fertility Center of the Carolinas] has been wonderful! They answer my questions through My Chart, and they will call me at my request. They have never made me feel like my questions were insignificant or unnecessary. They all have wonderful positive personalities. I have never had a bad experience...They have set up a meeting for my husband and I to talk to a financial person who took the time to explain how my insurance works and what it would cover. I really appreciated the information!!

Dr. Miller first ran blood work where he found a low AMH. We were doing timed intercourse and Femara at the time. Once he saw the low number, he changed the course of treatment to a hormone therapy, which brought the AMH number up. We tried Femara and injections, but I had a modest response. Describe your experience with Fertility Center of the Carolinas.
The clinic is very advanced. They have multiple doctors. I have only seen one, but I have heard great things about all of them! They take the time to determine what is causing infertility instead of treating all patients the same and throwing expensive treatments at every one that may or may not work. My friend also attended the same clinic (she’s pregnant now!) and our treatments were different since our causes are different. I love that we have answers and not just options.

Overall working with FCC was an extremely positive experience despite the difficult circumstances. The office staff is always friendly and address you by name. You truly feel as if the entire clinic is rooting for you.... Susan is hands down one of the best nurses I have had the privilege of meeting. She always responds to phone calls in a timely manner. She answers your questions and puts your fear at ease. She is your biggest cheerleader. Susan always had the answer for changes in treatment plan when things weren’t going as planned.

We had insurance coverage for part of our treatment. Our IUI cost aprroximately $500. The remaining balance for IVF was around $5,000 and $3,000 for medication. Due to being unable to do a fresh cycle due to issues with my lining being too thin we had to freeze our eggs which resulted in extra and unexpected costs. Eventually we ran out of money in the middle of a cycle and we had to pay an additional $1800 that was discounted.
Describe Paul Miller's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Fertility Center of the Carolinas.
Dr. Miller always suggested we transfer 2 embryos to increase our chance of success. He is always open to patients opinions and never pushed us to do anything we were uncomfortable with.
Dr Likes genuinely showed care, concern, and compassion. He treated us with dignity and respect, listened to our concerns, answered our questions, and was open to our recommendations.... We had 2 unexplained early miscarriages when we were referred to Dr Likes... He began by running a series of blood work for recurrent pregnancy loss. Checked AMH, thyroid levels, clotting issues, Karyotype, etc. and all blood work came back normal.
They [Fertility Center of the Carolinas] were great. One of my nurses gave me her personal cell number and texted to check in on me frequently during my second ectopic pregnancy.... I don’t love the communication messaging system. And I wish the doctor would see the patients every visit. It can be challenging to reach the physicians directly- most communication goes through the nurses.
How was your experience with Creighton Likes at Fertility Center of the Carolinas?
Our experience with Dr Likes was great. I would recommend him to anyone. We didn’t get the results we wanted, of course, but we felt confident that Dr Likes did everything he could and even tried some unconventional measures. Our case was pretty rare.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Creighton Likes at Fertility Center of the Carolinas?
Advocate for yourself, do you own research, and remember that doctors are just people. They don’t know everything, and you are the expert on your body.

Describe the protocols Creighton Likes used in your cycles at Fertility Center of the Carolinas and their degree of success.
We had 2 unexplained early miscarriages when we were referred to Dr Likes (8.5 weeks and 7 weeks). I was 24 and my husband was 23. He began by running a series of blood work for recurrent pregnancy loss. Checked AMH, thyroid levels, clotting issues, Karyotype, etc. and all blood work came back normal. He conducted an ultrasound to check for uterine abnormalities and found none. We tried medicated cycles (Femara) first because i always had irregular cycles. The theory was that if we could induce ovulation earlier, the egg quality may be better. We got pregnant and miscarried. This happened twice. We tried upping the medications (femara, gonal-f, and ovidrel) to time ovulation and timed intercourse. We had a few negative pregnancy tests, and then got pregnant again. This time the pregnancy was ectopic (left tube) and ended in emergency surgery where I lost my tube. We took a break and Dr likes recommended IVF with PGS. We always got pregnant easily, but the miscarriages were so early and spontaneous we didn’t know anything about the embryos. His theory was that our embryos weren’t good quality and expected to see that in PGS results. He wanted to try to get as many eggs as possible so we could hopefully find at least one PGS normal embryo. We did a freeze all cycle in January 2017 where we retrieved 20 eggs. 17 we’re mature and 16 fertilized. 10 embryos made it to day 5/6 blastocyst stage and 8 came back PGS normal after testing. We were all surprised by these results. We had an embryo transfer a couple months later and it was a chemical pregnancy. We tried another transfer 8 months later after I went on a gluten/dairy free diet (for possible inflammation). We did depot Lupron for 3 months prior to transfer to treat any endometriosis and “reset” my system. We did natural stimulation instead of synthetic (I actually ovulated, produced my own estrogen and progesterone, etc). The pregnancy was negative. At this point, dr Likes doesn’t have any ideas. We have considered treatment with a reproductive immunologist who specializes in recurrent pregnancy loss due to undiagnosed immunological issues.

I am not sure how my insurance factored in, but I know they billed things generically (not specifically fertility related) whenever they could to maximize my insurance coverage. I usually paid around $30-$100 for bloodwork (before meeting deductible), $100 for an ultrasound, $150 for consultation. For our IVF cycle, we paid around $5,000 out of pocket to schedule everything and insurance covered the rest. Our second FET was $1000 out of pocket.
Describe Creighton Likes's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Fertility Center of the Carolinas.
Dr Likes preferred one, since it was known they were genetically normal before hand. He was open to two, though, if we had preferred.

I really like this clinic overall. Everyone I've come in contact with in the office is always friendly and very attentive. I haven't had a negative experience with anyone on the staff. The office setting itself is very inviting and warm feeling. Even the lighting makes you feel more at ease. Which seems silly but when you're going through something as difficult as infertility even the smallest things can make you more comfortable.

Dr. Green removed both of my Fallopian tubes in November of 2017. I took hormone pills until May of 2018, when Dr. Green cleared me to start IVF. At that time, my husband and I did not have the money to start and we have been saving every since. ... Dr. Green personally called me after my surgery to see how I was doing. We need more doctors like that!!!... Dr. Green always has a great personality and she always seems happy. Dr. Green's practice [Fertility Ctr of the Carolinas] is top of the line. All of the staff is very professional and I have no complaints at all about them. They make you feel special and take time to really understand the needs of their patients. I've been to other fertility places and I would say this was the best experience I've had. Dr. Green does not make her patients feel like they are beneath her and she take time for each one and does not rush.

Dr. Miller always makes a point to see me for my appointments even if it’s just to poke his head in and say hi if I’m there for bloodwork. He has followed my case so closely that it really does feel like he is interested in getting me results. He knows my background and my chart off the top of his head. We rarely have had to review any history because he knows it so well.... It took a few cycles but Dr. Miller did eventually get on board with a very aggressive treatment plan.
I absolutely love this clinic [Fertility Ctr of the Carolinas] and their medical staff. I was not too pleased with their billing department initially but once I figured everything out, it worked out OK. I wish that the blood test results were ready before leaving the office.... I can’t say enough good things about Ashley. She constantly emails and calls during cycles. She stays in touch regularly in between cycles. She keeps both the doctor and me in constant communication with each other and she is just the sweetest person.
How was your experience with Paul Miller at Fertility Center of the Carolinas?
Initially, Dr. Miller was not as aggressive as I was hoping he would be. We had relocated to Greenville from Los Angeles and my doctor in Los Angeles was extremely aggressive with treatment. It took a few cycles but Dr. Miller did eventually get on board with a very aggressive treatment plan.

Our first protocol was an IUI cycle with femara and Follistim combined. I only got one follicle that cycle but ended up having a chemical pregnancy. Our second IUI cycle was all follistim and I had 4 follicles. We used an all injectable cycle because that is what worked having my older son. Unfortunately, this round didn’t work. We took a break to save some more money and I lost some more weight then we had a spontaneous natural pregnancy that ended in miscarriage. I had a laparoscopy done to clean out any endometriosis and scar tissue and we are planning to start back to IUI soon!

The cost with Dr. Miller was significantly more than it was having my son in California only because we did not have insurance coverage. Every baseline ultrasound or follicle check was around $300, IUI was around $300, and the sperm wash with around $80.
Dr. Likes has taken us in more as family than patients. He sits with us and answers every single question and concern we have. We've been on this journey for two years with one loss at the very beginning. He understands this and his number one priority is myself and my husband and getting us to a healthy pregnancy!...I don't ovulate regularly. We have gone from Chlomid, to Femara and then Femara with IUI. Each cycle seems to be getting better and better. We also do ultrasounds each cycle. I get to see my follicles and now I know exactly what they are measuring simply by viewing the screen during the ultrasound.
they [nurses at Fertility Center of the Carolinas] are truly angels. They bring you tissues if you cry, they laugh when you laugh and they are truly on your team! I don't know where to start. From our first meeting until today, Dr. Likes and his precious nurses (yes, all of them!) have treated us like family and like there was nothing wrong. They've been truthful and hopeful and have understood our disappointment each and every month. They've shared our emotions and made sure we knew what we were doing, why we were doing it, and what to expect. They have been a light in this very dark journey.

We do not have fertility coverage through insurance so this has all been out of pocket. Last month alone was $1,017. Each month is it upwards of at LEAST $500.
Dr. Miller was a great doctor. He listened to all of my concerns and answered any questions I had. He is very smart and seems to love what he does. Dr. Miller came into the waiting room and walked me back for my first appointment. He described what PCOS is and some of the treatment plans. We talked about weight loss, but he wasn't rude about it. He went about it in a caring way and offered helpful advice. I was always aware of what to expect at each appointment
Make an appointment [at Fertility Center of the Carolinas] as soon as you can. Sometimes it takes awhile to be seen for your first appointment.... I had done fertility meds (Clomid) with an OB. Dr Lessey helped show me that Clomid was thinning my lining and making pregnancy unlikely. He switched me to Femara and then to Femara plus Ovidrel, both with timed intercourse. I got pregnant on my third round of Femara plus Ovidrel...requested I abstain from a cycle when I had 4 mature follicles. He indicated that the risk for multiples was too high...I did not get to spend a lot of time with Dr. Lessey himself.
I found it easy to make an appointment [at Fertility Center of the Carolinas] and to get seen quickly. Nurses were happy to work me in on short notice for necessary bloodwork and were incredibly communicative. I never had to wait long for a response...staff was excellent and I felt like I got to know them well...The nursing staff was excellent. They were kind, compassionate, and communicative... I was upset one cycle in particular when I left a voicemail asking for my HCG numbers and received an emailed response. I was told that my HCG numbers had not increased, and while the nurse was sensitive in her message, it hurt to receive this news by message vs phone call.
How was your experience with Bruce Lessey at Fertility Center of the Carolinas?
I only had the chance to meet with Dr Lessey twice during my time trying to conceive. I did meet with him during every visit once I had conceived, and I felt so thankful to him for the pregnancy that resulted from his treatment.

Describe the protocols Bruce Lessey used in your cycles at Fertility Center of the Carolinas and their degree of success.
I had done fertility meds (Clomid) with an OB. Dr Lessey helped show me that Clomid was thinning my lining and making pregnancy unlikely. He switched me to Femara and then to Femara plus Ovidrel, both with timed intercourse. I got pregnant on my third round of Femara plus Ovidrel.

Overall I received excellent care. I was upset one cycle in particular when I left a voicemail asking for my HCG numbers and received an emailed response. I was told that my HCG numbers had not increased, and while the nurse was sensitive in her message, it hurt to receive this news by message vs phone call.
Dr. Likes was amazing. He is very caring and gives the patient the ability to decide how quickly action should be taken and how much intervention is desired. His staff are incredible too. Each staff member including dr. Likes treats you like you are the only patient there at the time and is willing to take time and answer any questions or concerns you may have.... After much consultation, we used femara and iui and got pregnant on the first time. My menstrual cycle was longer than normal (36 days) and my husband had issues with mobility and morphology.
Lynn [a nurse at Fertility Center of the Carolinas] is wonderful. She always has a smile on and us very encouraging. You can tell she really loves her job. Even though she doesn't have any children of her own she is an adopted grandma to many. We go back to the clinic every now and then just to see her and we even communicate by text sometimes... Strengths include personality of staff and organization. Weakness can't really think of any. Would definitely recommend them to anyone! I had a rare reaction to the femara and they were very helpful in trying to get me to the right place for treatment. They even worked me in on a couple of occasions on short notice

Describe the specific things that went wrong at Fertility Center of the Carolinas.
I dont know this for sure, but it is suspected that I had a rare reaction to the femara. My heart rate and blood pressure became very high about the time of implantation. I ended up going into perinatal cardiomyopathy. None of this could have been predicted but it has been a long struggle to get back to healthy
Dr Likes is very likeable. He has been honest with me even when the news is disappointing, and he has been kind and funny during our visits. Out of the two doctors I have seen at FCC, he has been my favorite... has increased my protocol several times. I started with just Femara plus Ovidrel, which worked for me previously. He eventually increased me to Femara plus Gonal F plus Ovidrel. He has changed my dosage of Femara and Gonla F twice.
I have no problems getting an appointment at FCC, even on short notice. The doctors and nurses are all very kind. I would recommend this clinic to anyone that is trying to conceive. I don't think the clinic has any weaknesses...Sandra [nurse] has been wonderful! I feel like she truly cares about me getting and staying pregnant...staff always greeted me by name and mentioned specific things that let me know they remembered me as a person and not just a patient.

Overall my experience has been great. On ONE occasion, a nurse emailed me results indicating a chemical pregnancy instead of calling with the numbers. I still received my numbers in a timely manner, but the delivery method hurt.

We started with just Femara and then slowly added a trigger shot and then added another shot before the trigger shot. After a few months of no results, we decided to try an IUI. After this failed, we decided to take a break and he was fully supportive!

All doctors appointments and treatments are expensive, but they tell you all costs up front if possible
The visit was quick and he [Dr. Miller] explained everything, since im still young with one live birth already he felt that i would be okay to have a iui the natural way , he answered my questions his nurses was great and supportive... He wanted me to do the natural iui but once my period came on i was like omg i haven't had a 10 years and this is very expensive so i wanted to take the pills i did the fertility pills day 3-7 and then waited for ovulation and went in the nest day for the procedure
I would say overall this clinic [Fertility Ctr of the Carolinas] is very inexpensive actually cheaper than what i expected and the whole team is great all the way down to the receptions even the lady's that draw your blood.... They have a great warm environment... The cost that i had to really only pay was for the iui which was $277 also the fertility pills which with my insurance was $11 (I think) ... Also each time after the iui my two blood work cost were $13... I also had insurance and did require alot of testing

I can't say enough good things about him....Dr [Creighton LIkes] is knowledgeable about the most recent advances and will give you his very honest opinions on treatment options, even if this clinic doesn't offer them. He is compassionate but will also be truthful for when he thinks it is time to move forward with a new plan. He keeps track of all of his patients, knows who is cycling, and even knows his IVF patient's beta test date off the top of his head. I always know what to expect and what we should do to move forward. I can't say enough good things about him.

We did a FET cycle. Suppressed with bcp and lupron. Added in miniville patches and estrace. Then PIO and Crinone. We thawed our previously frozen embryos for PGS testing. All made it through thaw, biopsy, refreeze, and thaw again. I think that embryologist and lab are very good at this clinic.

He [Dr Creighton Likes] took the time to explain things and let us ask questions. He said to call if we needed anything after we left. He always asked me how I was doing and feeling during procedures. I cannot say enough good things about Dr Likes...[At Fertility Center of The Carolinas] you would leave a message and a nurse would call you back. After my miscarriage I always had the same nurse, Amy, that called me. Every single nurse I talked to was sincere, helpful and respectful.

How was your experience with Creighton Likes at Fertility Center of the Carolinas?
We immediately liked Dr Likes. He painted a realistic picture of our scenario and what our results may be. He was confident and straightforward. He said our treatment plan was like a ladder and we needed to figure out which rung to start on and if that didn't work to move to next rung. Fortunately his plan worked and we are currently pregnant with our second child.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Creighton Likes at Fertility Center of the Carolinas?
Listen to what they have to say but be optimistic that good things can happen even if they don't seem likely. Everyone's body is different.

We would start a round with femera on days 3-7 of my cycle, Ovidrel 150IU days 7-10. We would go in for an ultrasound to check the follicle size and stimulate with Gonal F that same day.

They were always on time with appointments, quick to call with results, flexible to schedule and easy to get in and out of.
Dr. Lessey was kind and very intelligent however he didn't pay attention to my case. He went back and forth saying I needed depot lupron only to say I didn't at the very next appointment the back to saying I did 24 hours later. I left every appointment feeling confused as to what we needed to do next. After two years, I felt like I wasted a lot of time....Demand his attention and make sure he reads your chart. Otherwise, make sure you know your history like the back of your hand.
The clinic staff is excellent. I've had a few frustrations when trying to get price quotes, mostly due to the lack of communication from my doctor to the financial coordinator. The ultrasound tech, Sherri, is amazing. She always makes me feel like I am in good hands....Dr. Lessey is driven by his research. If you do not fit neatly inside it, he will basically ignore your chart. Every time I met with him, I had to fill him in with all of the details of my history. He rarely reviewed my chart. After being his patient for almost 2 years, he still didn't know who I was.
