Attention to Detail

Attention to detail is on a 1 - 10 scale, and is scored based on the rate, and severity, of errors committed by the clinic according to the patients.

For example, a severe error might be failing to inform a patient of critical information, while a small error might be failing to call a patient with results.

CDC Success Rates

This is the most recent data from the CDC. The CDC cautions that it should not be used to compare doctors and clinics. This data represents the outcomes of IVF cycles when using a person's own eggs.

For more information please see our FAQs.

Where you see a “?” on the chart, a clinic has done fewer than 20 cycles in this category and age range, so the CDC says showing percentages from this small data set would be misleading and unreliable.

Dr. Maxson was good at giving you all your options and being honest with potential outcomes. He’s very kind and truly loved what he was doing. He is retired now but I would have definitely referred people to him... We do have female and male factor infertility diagnoses. The thought process was to see if the meds would help with more eggs/more chance of getting pregnant. IUI #1: zero meds just IUI with timed ovulation as a “trial”. IUI #2: IUI with 50mg clomid & 150iu gonal-f IUI #3: IUI with 75mg clomid and 150iu...all these resulted in no pregnancy.
kind of felt like a number with the clinic [IVF Florida] as a whole. Just so many people coming and going. But everyone treats you great...I do wish they would take a little more time to make sure you’re understanding everything. For people going through this for the first time it’s a lot to process and sometimes I’d get home and was like, wait, what?...Billing issues is our biggest complaint...We’d pay a copay and then get a bill for it later, even after confirming with them that it’s paid, we still got additional bills in the mail for the same copay...IUI: $474 each Ultrasound & blood work: Approx $300 for each IUI round

What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Wayne Maxson (retired) at IVF Florida?
He is retired now.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Wayne Maxson (retired) at IVF Florida?
I’m general kind of felt like a number with the clinic as a whole. Just so many people coming and going. But everyone treats you great, Dr. Maxson and nurses. I do wish they would take a little more time to make sure you’re understanding everything. For people going through this for the first time it’s a lot to process and sometimes I’d get home and was like, wait, what?

Describe your experience with the nursing staff at IVF Florida.
Nursing staff was great. Always very kind and explained things well, although sometimes kind of fast. Occasionally one would tell me a good bit of info that the other didn’t. And I’d wonder, why didn’t they tell me that last time, that would’ve been good to know. But overall they’re great.
Describe your experience with IVF Florida.
In terms of billing, things got messed up a lot. We’d pay a copay and a few weeks later we’d get a bill in the mail for that copay. Also prices went up this last year with zero warning, so when we went back for treatment we were really confused why everything was more expensive. Getting appts is easy, getting tests or procedures done is usually pretty quick. Overall I would recommend the clinic to people looking for a fertility doctor.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Wayne Maxson (retired) at IVF Florida.
IUI: $474 each Ultrasound & blood work: Approx $300 for each IUI round
Describe Wayne Maxson (retired)'s approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at IVF Florida.
From my understand he’s not huge on multiple embryo transfers. Prefers to only transfer one. Which we are fine with.
What specific things went wrong at IVF Florida?

Describe the specific things that went wrong at IVF Florida.
Billing issues is our biggest complaint. As mentioned before. We’d pay a copay and then get a bill for it later, even after confirming with them that it’s paid, we still got additional bills in the mail for the same copay.

He [Dr. Barrionuevo] came in on his day off to do my second egg retrieval because he knew I felt more comfortable with him there...He modified and canceled my recent frozen embryo transfer because my lining wouldn't grow. He said it's safer to do an ERA on me now and I appreciate how he modified his plan based on my body's poor response to medication...He will only transfer a single embryo into me and is concerned about the increased risk of multiples even though I'd love to have twins. He said it could affect their health and I respect his rationale.
nurses [at IVF Florida - Miami] are excellent too - they were always responsive to my Type A questions and would communicate reliably through the ivf clinic patient portal so that I could be in the loop on my treatment, lab results, and other details...They were there to hug me after the miscarriage and are still rooting for me. Very grateful to the nurses there as they made my experience so much better even in the toughest of times... I'd arrive early around 730am and be seen for bloodwork and ultrasound back to back. Sometimes the clinic was backed up with more patients and it took longer (over 2 hours) and other times I was in and out within 30 minutes.
How was your experience with Marcelo Barrionuevo at IVF Florida?
He is very caring and knowledgeable. The nurses he works with are on the ball and great at answering questions. I lost our baby at close to 9 weeks and am trying again hoping to have a second chance at having a healthy baby and he has never given up on my body and it's ability to conceive despite all of my reservations and self doubt. He came in on his day off to do my second egg retrieval because he knew I felt more comfortable with him there.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Marcelo Barrionuevo at IVF Florida?
If you have questions, make sure to ask them when you meet with him because he is not a mind reader, and he will answer them for you.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Marcelo Barrionuevo at IVF Florida?
He would frequently call me after his long days and make time to address my concerns and discuss my results with me. His nurses are excellent too - they were always responsive to my Type A questions and would communicate reliably through the ivf clinic patient portal so that I could be in the loop on my treatment, lab results, and other details.

Describe your experience with IVF Florida.
They bill you for bills you've paid or shouldn't be paying... I've had to argue with them on the propriety of some charges that were later admittedly removed as errors. The strengths are that they have good nurses and some good doctors.
Describe your experience with your monitoring appointments at IVF Florida.
It was pretty routine. I'd arrive early around 730am and be seen for bloodwork and ultrasound back to back. Sometimes the clinic was backed up with more patients and it took longer (over 2 hours) and other times I was in and out within 30 minutes.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Marcelo Barrionuevo at IVF Florida.
Each egg retrieval was close to $10,000 and we did two egg retrievals. Each frozen embryo transfer was close to $5000 and we have one done transfer. We also pgd and Pgs tested the embryos for the breast and ovarian cancer gene that I have (brca) which was close to $8000 and the medications were over $5000 each cycle. Our insurance didn't cover any of our egg retrieval or transfer costs and only covered progesterone and birth control pills but none of the other ivf stimulation meds or the estrogen patches or the Luperon. We've spent about $50,000 so far on ivf.
Describe Marcelo Barrionuevo's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at IVF Florida.

Dr Manko has a lot of experience and was highly recommended but I feel like he didn’t give us realistic expectations based on my condition and gave false hope. I have stage 4 endometriosis and instead of referring me to a specialist to greater my chances he created an urgency to get Ivf done. Thinking about it now, I wish I would have looked at the research myself and the statistics to better make a decision, in order to be more successful in Ivf
The nurses and staff [at IVF Florida] are just there to do their job, they don’t seem to want to be more involved than what they already have to do...The communication is horrible. We did genetic testing and if we didn’t fight the bill they would have charged us for make and female full genetic testing, when they had recommended for me to do a full test and just test my husband for whatever I get to make sure we spend less money. Another time I was scheduled on the wrong day! I called and made an appointment, I wrote it on my phone, I showed up and the receptionist told me that my appointment wasn’t today it was tomorrow. Just so many little annoying details that I wish they would be more careful with.

Dr. Christie is kind, respectful and honest. He tells us the good and bad in a very nurturing manner. He is a very sweet man and we have all our faith tha8t he is doing everything he can to help us have a baby...Dr. Christie is extremely professional. He has always made himself available to us to answer questions or concerns. Everyone at the clinic [IVF Florida] is absolutely wonderful. They are kind, patient and very thorough to ensure everything is correct and up to date. The use of the portal is an excellent and efficient way to receive results and communicate with the office and nurses....The entire staff is absolutely wonderful and so caring. Love them all....I purchased a 2 ivf cycle plan via Attain. I believe the cost was around $25k plus PGS testing $3k

Dr. Christie is extremely professional. He has always made himself available to us to answer questions or concerns. He is very knowledge and recommend a different procedure in our last cycle that allowed us to have 8 more embryos to complete PGS testing on. One of which is now our little popsicle.

Describe the protocols Daniel Christie used in your cycles at IVF Florida and their degree of success.
In round 1, we went the "normal" way of fertilizing the eggs. On round 2 they were hand fertilized and we got 8 more embryos over the previous cycle (18 total). 8 in total made it to day 5 and after pgs one of those is now our popsicle. We couldn't be happier. We are now going to do an ERA to improve our chances of a successful transfer.

I purchased a 2 ivf cycle plan via Attain. I believe the cost was around $25k plus PGS testing $3k, medication $2k per round, and PGS testing was $3,600 per 8 embryos. ERA should be around $1k. In addition I have about $500 for anesthesiologist and another $2500 for the removal of a fibroid. I think that covers it.
Describe Daniel Christie's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at IVF Florida.
They do not allow multiple transfers and I'm not sure about eSet (not interested)

Dr. Gualtieri took the time to get to know me and give me individualized care...had wonderful bedside manners and he always listened to mine and my husband’s concerns. He would also take the time to call from his personal cell phone if needed to discuss things after office hours...He was always polite and took the time to explain everything in an easy to understand manner. He would take our concerns and financial situation into consideration and adjust the treatment accordingly (i.e. increase the dosage of pills/injectables). He was successful at getting me pregnant in May of 2017 and now I am currently 2 months pregnant again thanks to his medical care.
I went to multiple locations of IVF Florida (Jupiter, Margate, Port St. Lucie, Wellington) and the nurses at each clinic location were knowledgeable and compassionate...It is a large practice but I still felt like the nurses/Dr. Gualtieri took the time to get to know me and give me individualized care. The only weakness is the wait time I would experience sometimes due to a large amount of patience waiting to be seen (this was the case even when I had an exact appointment time and arrived early).

Have an open mind but also have your own plan of action and he be prepared to convey that plan to Dr. Gualtieri- he will listen.

I have PCOS so for my first pregnancy I needed to be on the highest dosage of Metformin to help with my levels. I was on Letrozal/Femara starting with 2.5 mg and only having success with ovulating on 7.5 mg. I also took 75 & 150 iu of GonalF injectables and Ovidrel (“trigger shot”). For my first pregnancy we did an IUI with 7.5 mg of Letrozal and injectables for my second pregnancy we did the same medication but with timed intercourse.

Overall, Dr. B [Barrionuevo] is amazing, and I’m glad to have found him. He shows compassion, and doesn’t make you feel silly for asking the simplest/irrational questions. He treats his patients with care. He explains everything in absolute detail. When delivering bad news, he shows empathy and brings an action plan.... During the egg retrieval cycle, we down-regulated with birth control. Once cleared, we started stims. Due to my young age and no apparent issues, I was placed on the lowest dose of Menopur and Follistim.
I could not give any negative feedback to this clinic [IVF Florida]. The nurses, care coordinators, financial consultants, appointment coordinators, and check out ladies make this all such a pleasant experience. As I mentioned, this journey is hard. But knowing and trusting you are in great hands makes it so much easier. On another note, for someone who works full time, this clinic is ideal. They open at 7:45am and if you show up a few minutes before doors open, you’re one of the first to be attended.

What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Marcelo Barrionuevo at IVF Florida?
Ask all the questions. Sometimes doctors don’t know that we don’t know, and that’s okay! They do this all day. But he will answer all your questions with loving care.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Marcelo Barrionuevo at IVF Florida?
I understood the chances of IVF and fertility upon going in, and doctors are no heros. However, from the beginning, Dr. B explained to us everything in absolute detail. After a failed transfer, he personally called to see how we were doing and what our next steps would be. If we had questions, he’d call us within the expected time. I always feel that my concerns are met. While he has several patients and probably hears the same story again and again, I feel uniquely valued.

During the egg retrieval cycle, we down-regulated with birth control. Once cleared, we started stims. Due to my young age and no apparent issues, I was placed on the lowest dose of Menopur and Follistim. I was monitored almost every other day with bloods and U/S. Once cleared, 48 hours before egg retrieval, I was told to trigger with an intramuscular injection of HCG. For my FET prep, I also began with BC. I then down regulated with Lupron injections. Once cleared, I was given my calendar and told to begin estrogen patches to build up my lining. A week before my scheduled transfer, I came in to ensure my lining was thick enough for transfer. 5 days before transfer, I began PIO injections. After that transfer failed, I followed the same protocol for an ERA to ensure that I had the correct amount of PIO to be receptive to an embryo. I am now currently on my second FET prep, and since my ERA came back “receptive,” I am following the same protocol.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at IVF Florida.
The nursing staff is what makes this clinic what it is. They are on their A game to ensure that you know what you are doing every step of the way. They are compassionate, even when it is difficult. The phlebotomist is my absolute favorite. She’s so sweet and has such a positive aura. And hugs all her patients upon arrival. This journey stinks, but the nurses make it easier.

Describe the costs associated with your care under Marcelo Barrionuevo at IVF Florida.
Thankfully I had insurance. Without insurance, each FET would have cost about $10,000, not including medications. The Egg Retrival would have cost $6000.
Describe Marcelo Barrionuevo's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at IVF Florida.
My clinic is very against transferring more than one embryo, especially if the patients are under the age of 40 and have good quality embryos. I disagree with this mentality, but trust my doctor and am going with the flow. When a patient has gone through multiple heartbreaks, and is also financially unable to follow through with multiple transfers, sometimes transferring multiples is their final chance - emotionally, physically, and financially.

Describe the specific things that went wrong at IVF Florida.
I only had one issue - I have moderately high prolactin levels. Throughout my first FET prep, I was informed to take a medication to get it under control. However, after my failed transfer, I was told to stop all medications. I assumed this also included my prolactin medication. A month before my next transfer, I mentioned the prolactin medication to my nurse. She made me feel as it was my fault; but this medication was never included on my chart. Had I not mentioned it, this could have affected my next transfer.

Schedule your appointments ASAP as he [Dr. Maxson] is only at each office on certain days for certain times...He used a variety of treatments always offering advice after a failed cycle. He also was good about seeking advice from the other partners...Dr. Maxson is very smart and knowledgeable in his field. He has many offices and sees many patients, so there is definitely a personalization factor that is missing. He is also very busy and very hard to get an appointment with.
[Costs at IVF Florida were] $5000 per frozen cycle not including meds. $12000 for fresh not including meds. ICSI was extra $1500...Having to go back several times to sign documents that were misplaced. Showing up for appointments that were not scheduled after the nurse told me to come in. Going to pick up time sensitive prescriptions at pharmacy that were not called in...Too large in terms of the patient to doctor ratio. The lady that draws blood is often late which can be quite annoying when you have a job to get to as well. There was much miscommunication in terms of financing, processes, where I was in my cycle, etc. I think due to the company being so large.

Schedule your appointments ASAP as he is only at each office on certain days for certain times.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Wayne Maxson (retired) at IVF Florida?
The clinic is so large that often times it felt like the doctors and nurses were just going through the motions. Very friendly, but very little personalization.
Describe the protocols Wayne Maxson (retired) used in your cycles at IVF Florida and their degree of success.
He used a variety of treatments always offering advice after a failed cycle. He also was good about seeking advice from the other partners.
Describe your experience with your nurse at IVF Florida. (Assigned nurse: Bonnie)
There are quite a few nurses assigned to each doctor so keeping them all straight was difficult. Most of them were knowledgeable and helpful, sometimes I would come across a nurse that had no idea what I was talking about. When that happened I always asked to speak to Bonnie or Justine.

Dr. Wayne Maxson is an incredible doctor...I came to him after struggling with secondary infertility for over a year... He is brilliant and up to date on the most cutting-edge research and technology. He is an incredible scientist, but even more wonderful human being. He is kind, emotionally attuned to patients and empathic. During difficult moments in my fertility journey he offered me such comfort and treated me with the utmost respect. I felt that I was a person to him, and not just a number. He is truly remarkable and I highly recommend him. I came to him after struggling with secondary infertility for over a year...
Overall, I found the clinic in the Margate location (where I went) to be clean and professional. During certain times of day there was occasionally a wait, but other days I was in and out quickly. I found that the office ran very smoothly and they definitely have good systems in place...The nursing staff at IVF Florida is incredible. I truly adore Justine and Bonnie and I am so appreciative of everything they have done for me. They were always there to answer my questions and help walk me through the process. They helped explain everything and keep me on track. And they both show enormous compassion.

Dr. Wayne Maxson is an incredible doctor. I came to him after struggling with secondary infertility for over a year. I was working with another reproductive endocrinologist (who did not offer IVF) but who had helped me get pregnant with my son (with the use of Clomid). When I returned to this doctor to get pregnant again, the Clomid did not work and I spent over a year (with 2 miscarriages) trying oral and injection options with IUI. At one point, my first doctor recommended I speak with Dr. Maxson for a second opinion. When I met with Dr. Maxson, he did NOT push me into doing IVF. In fact, he discouraged it at first and recommended less invasive courses of action. Once those failed, he discussed IVF options with me and with that information he helped guide me in the process. My medical presentation was actually very complicated due to a severe case of PCOS. We met hurdles at many points in the process and Dr. Maxson managed them beautifully - he even suggested a cutting edge test to confirm the perfect date of implantation for me, which turned out to be different from the norm. Because of him, I am blessed with a healthy, full-of-life and just delicious baby girl. She is almost 1 year-old.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Wayne Maxson (retired) at IVF Florida?
Dr. Maxson will often explain different alternatives to you and often times there is no "right" or "wrong" decision. He rarely pushes you into a decision, unless he feels VERY strongly that it is important medically. More often than not, he is there to guide you but also respects your own viewpoints (within reason and safety of practice, of course). If you do feel that you need more guidance from him, ask him the decision he would make if you were his daughter or his family member. Dr. Maxson is extremely human and when you ask this question to him he will speak openly and honestly. He will meet you where you are at.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Wayne Maxson (retired) at IVF Florida?
Dr. Wayne Maxson is by far the most professional, bright, kind and caring doctor I have ever worked with. He always went above and beyond for me. I feel that he is deeply passionate about the work he is doing and he is a true scientist. As a father himself, he also is able to demonstrate enormous empathy and is very emotionally attuned to his patients.
Describe the protocols Wayne Maxson (retired) used in your cycles at IVF Florida and their degree of success.
It has been almost 2 years since I underwent the egg retrieval process and almost 1.5 years since the implantation. I apologize that I really do not remember - and probably have chosen to forget - much of the details. However, I will say that I highly recommend PGS testing. Due to my PCOS, I produce a large number of very poor quality eggs. After my egg retrieval, I had 12 blastocysts. I am so glad I tested them with PGS because 6 of the 12 came back with chromosomal abnormalities. I fortunately had this information (which Dr. Maxson recommended I obtain) and so I did not waste lots of cycles implanting poor embryos. My first embryo transfer (with a healthy embryo) did fail, which was somewhat surprising to my team. Dr. Maxson suggested I take a month "off" and use that month to do a test of my uterine wall with a cutting-edge technique (sorry can't remember the name!) that allows the doctors to determine the optimal day in the cycle for implantation. This test (which was very new when I was going through the process) showed that my uterine wall was not ready on the day that transfers are typically done...I needed to wait one more day. Knowing this information, we planned accordingly for the second embryo transfer and it was a success :)

Describe Wayne Maxson (retired)'s approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at IVF Florida.
My impression is that Dr. Maxson is conservative when it comes to multiple embryo transfer and he follows guidelines and literature on safe practices. When I was going through IVF, I was 32 years old. I also had one biological son from a non-IVF, Clomid cycle previously. Given this information, Dr. Maxson strongly discouraged multiple embryo transfer and explained the risks associated. It is possible he may be open to multiple embryo transfer in other cases, but I can only speak from my own experience.

Dr. Christie was very nice during our first meeting, but then I barely saw him. The nurses were asked to handle everything else. Even after repeated treatments didn't work I didn't hear anything from him. I had to call and insist on a meeting to come up with a new game plan. Only at that time, after my pressing and after many months of treatment, did he suggest making an adjustment to the protocol...it was also really frustrating because the Dr. was not very reachable.
[IVF Florida] Too big and corporate-like. They treat everyone in the same way - not individualized care....I felt like everyone was having the exact same treatment plan regardless of their prognosis....The answering service was horrible! Sometimes I needed to get a hold of the clinic on the weekends, and it was very difficult to reach a nurse or Dr. Most of the time no one called back. One time I had an emergency and was told to wait at home and drink water, and then call on Monday. Not acceptable!

What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Daniel Christie at IVF Florida?
Don't go to IVF Florida. Period.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Daniel Christie at IVF Florida?
At IVF Florida I felt like everyone was having the exact same treatment plan regardless of their prognosis. I had several other friends going there as well and we compared notes and realized nothing was individualized. Worst of all, the practice kept insisting that I come back many days in a row to do the same procedures over and over again with no discernable improvements. Of course, they charged a lot of money for every visit.
Describe the protocols Daniel Christie used in your cycles at IVF Florida and their degree of success.
At first we tried Clomed - absolutely no result. Then Femara - no luck there either. Then, only after my insisting, some injectable drugs to stimulate ovulation with Femara. However, the dosage was off and he didn't adjust it properly. After more combinations of oral and injectable drugs I finally ovulated (after about 5 months).
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at IVF Florida.
Some of the nurses were very nice and compassionate, but others treated us like just another object on a conveyor belt in a factory. They were very hesitant to give us any real information and told us the Dr. was the only one who could advise on certain matters. I get that this is for liability reasons, but it was also really frustrating because the Dr. was not very reachable. I also thought some of the nurses were trying to push us into having more expensive procedures (IVF) when it wasn't necessary.

Describe the costs associated with your care under Daniel Christie at IVF Florida.
The per visit costs were lower than other practices, but they made me come back for many unnecessary visits so the overall costs turned out to be a lot higher than other providers. The biggest cost, however, was the time I lost during many months of useless treatments.

I think overall the [IVF Florida - Miami] clinic has done a good job. When I first started treatment they had yet to have the patient portal so it was a bit difficult to get in contact with a nurse. But after the patient portal the nursing team was very decent in responding. The portal is very useful and has all your results needed...Since I do have insurance I had to pay my $2,500 deductible. During 1 cycle, a failry large cyst that was known I had was mistaken for a mature follicle. We almost proceeded with an IUI till I brought it up to their attention so my cycle was cancelled. [Daniel Christie is an] excellent RE...He was accessible via email for detailed questions that arose outside appointments and he followed up with me via phone whenever something happened with my IVF cycles (I had several unfortunate pregnancy outcomes)...His general modus operandi is "less is more" I think in terms of telling you what he's thinking about your case, but he's very willing to make you privy to his views on your case if you want in depth analysis of things.
In comparison to the staff I knew at the small [IVF Florida Miami] office, I didn't love the communication with the 2 other offices, but I assume if I'd gone to one of those two as my primary location, the situation might have been different...I consider it pretty normal that there were some forgotten phone calls and paperwork that didn't make it to my local clinic. Minor annoyances but nothing huge.
How was your experience with Daniel Christie at IVF Florida?
Excellent RE. He was new to his practice (IVF FL) when I was a patient from 2010-2012 and super attentive despite the fact that it is a huge practice with several offices. He was accessible via email for detailed questions that arose outside appointments and he followed up with me via phone whenever something happened with my IVF cycles (I had several unfortunate pregnancy outcomes). He has a great sense of humor and in general kept my and my husband's spirits up through a long slog through infertility treatments over several years. Despite the fact that another RE got me pregnant with donor eggs later, we completely credit Dr. Christie with encouraging us through the long ordeal and ultimately keeping us believing in the process of trying to have a healthy live birth.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Daniel Christie at IVF Florida?
Ask lots of questions. His general modus operandi is "less is more" I think in terms of telling you what he's thinking about your case, but he's very willing to make you privy to his views on your case if you want in depth analysis of things. He's a fantastic doctor!

He was an excellent communicator and always went the extra mile to be in touch and be patient.

IUI with gonal F (failed attempt Dec. 2010), IVF antagonist protocol (successful attempt but chemical pregnancy, March 2011), FET of single blast (successful attempt but ectopic pregnancy, May 2011), IVF estrogen priming antagonist protocol (successful attempt but Trisomy 18 pregnancy, Dec. 2011)
Describe your experience with your nurse at IVF Florida. (Assigned nurse: Meicy Alvarez)
I loved working with Meicy, Emily, and the other ladies in the Miami office (no longer open - Meicy is now at Pembroke Pines). In comparison to the staff I knew at the small office, I didn't love the communication with the 2 other offices, but I assume if I'd gone to one of those two as my primary location, the situation might have been different.

IUI - 500 to $1000. IVF - 3 cycle package for $21,500

Describe the specific things that went wrong at IVF Florida.
I only had minor things go wrong and given that I did 4 different infertility treatment cycles there and did one of those 4 from out of state, I consider it pretty normal that there were some forgotten phone calls and paperwork that didn't make it to my local clinic. Minor annoyances but nothing huge.

How was your experience with Vanessa Weitzman at IVF Florida?
Very cold and rude. She was so unprofessional, bragging about her weekend to a nurse right on front of me. I had her retrieve my eggs two separate times and both retrievals were horrible. Both retrievals were so bad I had to recover for two weeks after her and we yielded no embryos. I had two other retrievals done by another doctor, Dr. Christy and I was back to normal after a few days and both times we had embryos. I begged my doctor not to have her do my egg retrieval, but that was unavailable.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Vanessa Weitzman at IVF Florida?
Stay away from her. Do yourself a favor and get someone else to treat you.

I really like the clinic [IVF Florida ]. They do take the time to explain the ivf process. My only concern may be understaffing. You typically have to leave an email or voicemail message whenever you have a question. However, they are typically responsive within the same day....The nursing staff took time to explain the ivf process as well. Unfortunately, I was not assigned to particular nurse, however, I really cannot complain about their work. They took the time to answer all questions

I really like the clinic. They do take the time to explain the ivf process. My only concern may be understaffing. You typically have to leave an email or voicemail message whenever you have a question. However, they are typically responsive within the same day.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Daniel Christie at IVF Florida.
I was able to get a loan through Attain for 2 ivf cycles with unlimited transfers. I had to pay medication and OR costs on my own.

I felt like a human. Dr. Hoffman has been in practice for many many years. He is honest and bc my prognosis was good for getting pregnant, he was positive. He would say to me, it’s not a matter of if for you it’s a matter of when. Bc of his knowledge and care I now have boy/girl twins...He is an excellent communicator. He’s very well read. His scope of practice is vast as one of his specialties being laparoscopic surgery. He performed two of these for me. Ivf of FL is a big practice with a lot of staff and a lot of patients. Sometimes it was difficult to get a hold of him but mostly I could.
Sometimes [the nurses at IVF Florida are] hard to get a hold of but they are SO busy! But once I got a hold of them and when in person their bed side was perfect! Sensitive and empathetic! Even the woman who took my blood regularly... Ivf of FL no longer transfers 2 embryos unless the patient is 40 or older... They’re organized and friendly. Some nurses offered for me to call them personally when I was feeling super stressed.

Dr. Christie was kind and compassionate and really took the time to listen to my opinions and questions and was there every step of the way....Dr. C was kind, compassionate and I had a great experience with him. mI did two rounds initially and was successful on the second round. I went back to have another baby and he was very honest about my small chances for success but still was willing to work with me.... he used max doses but always expected me to respond by day 9.
THis is a huge clinic so a bit like a factory. My RE [Dr. Christie] never did any of my retrievals nor transfers. They also do push day 3 transfers and dont push PGS testing which I found a bit outdated. Price wise they are very reasonable in comparison to other clinics. Their surgery center is very far, in Margate, and that is where they see patients on weekends which is very inconvenient...The nursing staff overall was very good....I was fortunate enough to have insurance so costs were minimal.

Doctor Ory is very matter a fact but I appreate that in a doctor. He lays out all options very clearly and he is up to date on any new methods in the fertility world. He not only shares the options but he also gives you his best advise. Aside from that he has been able to motivate us for the next round....Make sure to ask questions or for a one on one call with dr Ory when needed! He will make time for you, but if you don’t ask you can feel like just a number at this massive clinic.
Since the clinic [IVF Florida] is so big, it is hard to nail down a date for an FET or any type of procedure. There is also a risk that major procedures are done by a different doctor. Put all your trust in another doctor is sometimes hard... The office of IVF Florida is very large, but since they have a smaller office in Miami it is easy to built a relationship with the nurses. Doctor Ory is very matter a fact but always takes the time to answer any question you may have.

Dr. Weitzman is fantastic at office visits, but I wish I would have received a call when she selected to trigger. I actually only spoke to nurses during the IVF process except when I called. She did call me immediately and to speak once my cycle failed....She is excellent at our consultations and answers all questions. She is conservative and cautious as she gains data. She wants a healthy baby and mommy at they end... Nurses do lots of the tracking during IVF and to IUIs.
Billing department [at IVF Florida] is difficult to get ahold of. They told me to take an inject subq when it should have been IM. They apologized immediately. Having different nurses made the process uneasy....IVF 12.243 plus preservation , storage, anesthesia, ocp start IUI about 2,000...I just wish the practice is setup different. Nurses do lots of the tracking during IVF and to IUIs...Most of the girls [nurses] are excellent, but there is 1 that isn't enthusiastic. Despite their enthusiasm I wish I had one nurse from start to finish.

He [Dr. David Hoffman] introduced himself and background, had a great bedside manner and explained everything to myself and my husband in great detail until we understood exactly what would happen. During each procedure he would explain as he was going and once completed would sit down with me and go over everything again. Ask for copies of all medical tests. It's so easy to forget your results.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Daniel Christie at IVF Florida?
There is always a different nurse or tech performing a procedure. It is difficult to develop a connection with anyone since they have a high volume of patients and most don't remember you. That said, there is one nurse who appears to remember me and has been very kind. When I meet with the Doctor he takes his time explaining options and treatment.

He is very straightforward and mechanical but he doesn't rush you or fail to explain. I just feel he is set in his ways and only does things one way.

I don't want to say much bad about Doctor Barrionuevo as I only saw him once and he was good, and then I had a phone call with him. I had only wish he had done a deeper investigation of what happened before calling me with the false accusations from the nurses, as I was already shocked and that just made it worse...I was treat like a number by his team not by him. 0 empathy, disrespectful nurses.
the worst started when I was called to the room [at IVF Florida] to do the (HSG) test. I was asked to get in a little room , get half naked. When I tried to enter the next door for the test another patient was still having the test so I was asked to keep waiting in the little room for almost 10 minutes while hearing a lady (doing the same test I was about to get done) yelling and crying like she was been tortured. I, by any means , trying to say the pain was the fault of the medical team, I understand each person has a different condition or level of resistance. But when if finally was my turn I was scared, shaking, fearing the pain that could cause me the test. I told the team that it was a very uncomfortable situation and that I wished I haven’t heard those screams, I wish they would have made me wait in another place. The doctor there told me it was not common to have people yielding in pain that way. I told her I was very nervous and if it started hurting much to please stop, and she agreed. She started with the speculum and her first comment was “you are too tense, the speculum w
How was your experience with Marcelo Barrionuevo at IVF Florida?
This is the worst medical experience I have ever had in almost 40 years! . My first appointment was with Doctor Barrionuevo. Apart from the 1 hour waiting the doctor was very kind and explained the details of the possible treatment in a very clear way. I have also a test done, everything was good. I was told someone from the financial services will contact me . After a few weeks waiting for the call I called about 4 times before being contacted back. Before the financial call I had an appointment for and ultrasound. When I arrived I was told about another exam (genetics) that need to be done and a nurse took my blood for it. When I asked if that was covered by the insurance she didn’t know and said the financial service should provide me that info, I asked a second nurse and got the same answer. When the financials team called me they haven’t check at that point my insurance coverage. When I asked about the specific cost of the genetic test the lady explained this info needs to be provided by the nurses..., she offered to contact the nurses and write back to me (which never happened…). Today I had an appointment to do another test (HSG). I asked to see the nurse to get clarification on the cost of the genetic test. She explained to me this was done by an external company and only that company can provide me costs. I understood but told her I would have appreciate someone would have explain that to me before taking my blood (a day I was going for another test.). Also I would have appreciate not to be sent from one team to another to get that info. The nurse became frustrated, started looking angry at me, raising her voice telling me “this is the way it is” like I should know it….I was not blaming anyone, I was just pointing my frustration of not been provided the right info on time and the opportunity they have internally to better align the communication to the patients. But the worst started when I was called to the room to do the (HSG) test. I was asked to get in a little room , get half naked. When I tried to enter the next door for the test another patient was still having the test so I was asked to keep waiting in the little room for almost 10 minutes while hearing a lady (doing the same test I was about to get done) yelling and crying like she was been tortured. She started with the speculum and her first comment was “you are too tense, the speculum will break, you need to relax’’. Easier said than done. Not sure how they expected me to be relaxed after all I heard, so I told them I was done and to please stop the test. I got back to the toilet to get dressed up, and I left the room. On my way out I asked the reception lady to please give me a follow up appointment with Doctor Barrionuevo, After waiting for about 5 minutes I told her I was nervous (shaken) and I have been there for too long so to please call me when she had the appointment booked, her answer was "No, you will have to call the appointment center." I felt horrible, totally discouraged. In the afternoon I received a call from Doctor Barrionuevo, he wanted to talk to me about what had happened. I was shocked to hear apparently all the nurses have accused me to insult them, smashing doors, breaking a clothes box! So not only the whole experience was frustrating enough, and instead of have a bit of empathy they just made it worse inventing false accusations to cover themselves of a job poorly done. Doctor Barrionuevo told me that due the circumstances it was better for me to move to another clinic, he offered to send all the info he has on my case, and encourage me to keep going with my treatment somewhere else. I have nothing bad to say about Doctore Barrionuevo but the whole experience was horrible and traumatizing and very discouraging for me. I am sharing this long review as I hope the clinic can take it to improve certain points and to avoid anyone else has such a bad experience as I had.

Describe your experience with your nurse at IVF Florida. (Assigned nurse: Andrea)
The nurse seems to be a bit lost in some pieces of information. But the way I was treated by the main nurse was disrespectful and non compassionate at all. Instead of trying to understand my questions and my feedback she became angry and defensive.
Describe your experience with IVF Florida.
Only strength for me was the location. I don't want to say much bad about Doctor Barrionuevo as I only saw him once and he was good, and then I had a phone call with him. I had only wish he had done a deeper investigation of what happened before calling me with the false accusations from the nurses, as I was already shocked and that just made it worse. The nurse team and specially the main nurser clearly the weaknesses

Describe the specific things that went wrong at IVF Florida.
I dont have anything to say seen the Dr [Steven Ory] once only have been working with the horrible staff [IVF Florida Reproductive Associates] ... I only got to the diagonotic part. I was suppose to call when I get my cycle. ... No one call me prior to tell me they was not moving forward. ... Never received my results no one return phone calls ... They allowed me to schedule the blood work and ulta sound and SIS. Then an hour later they called saying we are not moving forward you will receive a letter.

Weitzman did speak in a caring manner and took the time to answer the questions that my husband and I had. She also ordered a range of tests rather than going off of bloodwork from a previous clinic, which I appreciate...Despite my young age, she was not willing to allow me try IVF using my own eggs. This made me feel like I was a statistic that could hurt their facility number and therefore wasn't worth trying with
This clinic was well organized and was able to schedule an appointment for us quickly. The [IVF Florida] staff and everyone at the clinic was respectful and nice...The ultrasound was $1,000 and not covered by insurance...The nurses were very sweet and took the time to reassure me, make sure I was comfortable during testing, etc.
How was your experience with Vanessa Weitzman at IVF Florida?
Weitzman did speak in a caring manner and took the time to answer the questions that my husband and I had. She also ordered a range of tests rather than going off of bloodwork from a previous clinic, which I appreciate. I have, however, heard from other clinics that they can try ivf with my own eggs. This makes me think that Dr. Weitzman either did not want to attempt it because low success rates hurt her numbers or she does not have adequate experience or research in relation to my diagnosis.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Vanessa Weitzman at IVF Florida?
If you are diagnosed with POF or DOR, go in expecting to be given the "donor egg" speech.

I only went for a consultation and testing which included an AFC ultrasound and genetic testing.

This clinic was well organized and was able to schedule an appointment for us quickly. The staff and everyone at the clinic was respectful and nice. Since I did not go through with treatment there I do not have much knowledge beyond the initial consultation.

I believe it was around $13,000 for an IVF cycle. The ultrasound was $1,000 and not covered by insurance.

Success w/ Doc Too early to know
He [Dr. Daniel Christie] is very knowledgeable and kind. He explained everything and answered all my questions that i had. He took on my case because my original dr left the practice and he seemed to really understand my previous care and picked up right where she left off. He had a good course of action and went through everything in detail.... He wanted me to get through my ectopic and then after 3 month break start another cycle. Up my progesterone and consider doing an era.
Some of the nursing staff [at IVF are amazing and some are very disorganized and give wrong information..... The clinic [IVF Florida- Miami] is very welcoming but it is a huge practice and sometimes u feel like you loose that individualized care. I have a son and i owe it all to the dr and practice because without their care he would not be there but the communication could be better and individual care.

My practice will Kota love more then one embryo. I fee like they should give us the patient a little lore say so in this equation.
