Attention to Detail

Attention to detail is on a 1 - 10 scale, and is scored based on the rate, and severity, of errors committed by the clinic according to the patients.

For example, a severe error might be failing to inform a patient of critical information, while a small error might be failing to call a patient with results.

CDC Success Rates

This is the most recent data from the CDC. The CDC cautions that it should not be used to compare doctors and clinics. This data represents the outcomes of IVF cycles when using a person's own eggs.

For more information please see our FAQs.

Where you see a “?” on the chart, a clinic has done fewer than 20 cycles in this category and age range, so the CDC says showing percentages from this small data set would be misleading and unreliable.

Dr Pena was compassionate and was always available for questions even when not in the office...Dr Pena was compassionate yet very realistic and never misled us in what to expect...We used clomid and upped the dose for the second and third cycle. All three cycles were for iui. The third cycle was a success. He is conservative and that's what we loved. We didn't want to jump into ivf unless we had to...

Dr. Pena was very patient, made me feel very comfortable, answered all my questions and was very clear and concise with his instructions when preparing for the IUI...He knew exactly what to do and I had the utmost confidence that I would have successful outcomes with him...I would go into the office on Day 2 or 3 of my menstrual cycle and they would take blood and do a sonogram. Then they would prescribe me clomid and ovidrel shot. After another visit or two with additional sonograms and blood tests, they would tell me when I would be scheduled for the IUI and when to take the ovidrel.
I dealt with nurse Jessica [at Long Island IVF] primarily and she was an excellent communicator, she took care of all my needs, answered every email in the most prompt fashion, and was just patient with me. The entire nursing staff were so great as well. they all seemed so well informed with my treatment strategies and I always felt like I was in good hands...The clinic's staff were great and anytime there was a change in the schedule, they would inform me immediately and would apply to their computer system where different offices knew exactly what was going on.
How was your experience with Joseph Pena at RMA Long Island IVF (formerly Long Island IVF)?
As mentioned earlier Dr. Pena was a great doctor and made my dreams of being a mother and expanding on my family come true. He knew exactly what to do and I had the utmost confidence that I would have successful outcomes with him.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Joseph Pena at RMA Long Island IVF (formerly Long Island IVF)?
Generally speaking, going through fertility treatments is a commitment and if someone really wants to have a baby, then they have to adhere to the process which is very meticulous in nature. I followed through with all appointments because I knew it would be worth it in the end! And it was!

The clinic's staff were great and anytime there was a change in the schedule, they would inform me immediately and would apply to their computer system where different offices knew exactly what was going on. My only wish is that the clinics were closer to my home, but driving a little distance is a small price to pay for my successful outcomes.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Joseph Pena at RMA Long Island IVF (formerly Long Island IVF).
I only had to pay copayments, so for drawing blood it would cost me $20.00, for a sonogram, it would be $30.00.

For egg retrievals I used menopure, ganirelix, gonal f, trigger shot. Here are other but I can’t remember. The dosages changed throughout treatment as needed. For embryo transfer I used progesterone in oil and estradiol. I stayed after the transfer and added endometrin. The dosages changed throughout treatment.

He strongly recommended we start with a single embryo transfer, because of my age and unexplained infertility. ... Dr. Pena was amazing! He is very knowledgeable in his profession and understood that this was a very hard and emotional time for us. He would explain everything to us so we understood it, never thought any questions we asked were ridiculous. My husband was not always able to make all of the appointments and Dr. Pena would always make sure I took a video of my son's heartbeat or sonogram and he would always make sure I knew and understood what was going on throughout the process.
Overall Long Island IVF is amazing! They were very thorough during my egg retrieval, fresh embryo transfer and my frozen embryo transfer. Everyone made sure I was comfortable and understood the process that I was going through. Sometimes in the morning for monitoring the wait would be a little too long for me ... When the offices are closed and you have to go to Melville (ex. weekend, holiday) there are so many people and not enough staff to make it go fast, then I would spend forever there. All of the nurses, front desk staff, financial/billing department staff are amazing.

I cried the day he discharged me to my OB. I was scared to leave him but he made me feel super comfortable and positive that the pregnancy was going to be fine and sure enough it was and I had my son! :)
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Joseph Pena at RMA Long Island IVF (formerly Long Island IVF)?
Do not be scared to ask questions. This is your future and your body and Dr. Pena understands that. He will never tell you your question is ridiculous.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Joseph Pena at RMA Long Island IVF (formerly Long Island IVF)?
This was a very emotional time for us. We were not sure if we would have a child. Dr. Pena and his staff were amazing! They explained everything to us so we understood it and did not force us into anything we did not want to do. I was always greeted with a smile and always felt comfortable when I was in the office or on the phone. I asked a lot of questions throughout the process (some were probably ridiculous) but no one ever judged or questioned it, they would answer it and give me as much details as I needed. I always felt like a person never just another number when I was with the office.
Describe your experience with your nurse at RMA Long Island IVF (formerly Long Island IVF). (Assigned nurse: Jessica )
My IVF nurse Jessica was amazing! She was my rock, listened to me cry when she told me my first cycle failed and told me my options and supported me throughout the whole process. She became like family, from seeing her every day. She always made me feel like a person, would have real conversations, not just good morning and have a great day. She would call every day with my update. When she called to tell me I was pregnant she sounded as excited as I did.

Describe Joseph Pena's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at RMA Long Island IVF (formerly Long Island IVF).
Dr. Pena and I discussed the difference of the outcomes of a single embryo transfer vs. multiple embryo transfer. He strongly recommended we start with a single embryo transfer, because of my age and unexplained infertility. After fresh cycle failed we went over the possible outcomes and precautions of single vs. multiple embryo transfers again. We agreed that my frozen cycle would be a single embryo transfer, but if that failed we would then start multiple embryo transfers. However, my frozen single embryo transfer was successful and I had my son :)

I didn’t get to see Dr. Zinger much so I had to deal with the nurse who did 2 of my IUI’s.... Dr. Zinger was very nice during my 1st consultation. He was referred to me by my Gyn doctor at the time. Dr. Zinger gave me some informative information my 1st visit. After that I didn’t really deal with him much.... it will be nice if the doctors will be more involved instead of leaving it up to the nurses.
I was using donor sperm and for some reason the shipment got messed up so my husband had to go and get it. When he came back they [nurse - Long Island IVF] took it along with the paperwork. I waited for almost an hour before she came out yelling at me. She was say I did something to the paperwork basically accusing me of a crime. I was in shocked, confused and emotional on a full bladder.

Two of my IUI cycles he had me on Clomid, progesterone suppository and Ovidrel 250mcg (trigger shot). One cycle I had to take letrozole because there was a shortage on clomid.
Describe your experience with your nurse at RMA Long Island IVF (formerly Long Island IVF).
She’s a very cold person, she doesn’t communicate well during ultrasounds. She really only talk to you if you’re asking her a question. My last interaction with her was so horrible.
Describe your experience with RMA Long Island IVF (formerly Long Island IVF).
The strengths this clinic has is the woman who handles the billing. She was so helpful and nice to me every time. The weakness is the lack of communication they have with themselves and their patients. Also it will be nice if the doctors will be more involved instead of leaving it up to the nurses.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Michael Zinger at RMA Long Island IVF (formerly Long Island IVF).
The only cost I had was for the medication and the donor sperm. With the medication I think I had to pay a $125 deductible.

The nurse at this location was so horrible. I was using donor sperm and for some reason the shipment got messed up so my husband had to go and get it. When he came back they took it along with the paperwork. I waited for almost an hour before she came out yelling at me. She was say I did something to the paperwork basically accusing me of a crime. I was in shocked, confused and emotional on a full bladder. My husband tried to calm her down by saying he will call the bank to find out what happened. She didn’t want any parts of us so she canceled the IUI. She said we will have to come back the next day. The ladies at the front desk were in shock as well on how she was acting. At this point I’m crying and embarrassed because she did this in the waiting area. The young ladies at the front desk kept apologizing on her behalf. I came back the next day thinking I was going to get my IUI done. I waited for almost 2 hours. Finally I get called to come into the back to sit in Dr. Zingers office not an exam room. He basically told me that due to the mixup with the paperwork for the donor sperm he doesn’t feel comfortable performing the IUI. I explained to him I understand that 100% but the way me and my husband was treated was unacceptable. I am not sure if she treated us this way because of the color of our skin or because husband is a trans man. I just know how extremely disrespectful this nurse was and how bad she made me feel. That was my last time there.

Dr Zinger was always in touch with me during the whole process. It was easy to communicate via email and phone. He answered all my questions regarding IUI and IVF process. When I had miscarriage, he was the one who comforted me and gave me a hope that everything will be fine. ... We used progesterone in oil and estrogen pills during my frozen embryo transfer. It worked but I miscarried on my 7th week.
My nurse Jackie was so passionate about the result! We communicate on the daily basis and I knew I can call and email her anytime ... It had good experience with monitoring appointments. I did my blood work and sonograms right before my work. They did not have lines, everything was done within 15 minutes. ... The clinic is pretty good and staff is always ready to help. Michael zinger had great bedside manner. he was educated, knowledgeable. the only thing I would have wished he had done differently was opt in for the ICSI. he felt I would absolutely not need it, however we only got one fertilized egg out of 14. I wish he would have played it safer and done the ICSI.... office staff was warm and welcoming, knew us by name. available for questions. never rushed out of the office. was seen in a timely manner
the ckinic [Long Island IVF-Brooklyn] was clean, knowledgeable, organized, helpful, efficient parking right outside the clinic was no problem for early morning appts, scarce in the afternoon. there was a parking garage 1 block over.... [For monitoring] get to the office at 6am. a few minutes later there will be a line.... worked like a well oiled machine. 4 hour window for monitoring.
