Attention to Detail

Attention to detail is on a 1 - 10 scale, and is scored based on the rate, and severity, of errors committed by the clinic according to the patients.

For example, a severe error might be failing to inform a patient of critical information, while a small error might be failing to call a patient with results.

CDC Success Rates

This is the most recent data from the CDC. The CDC cautions that it should not be used to compare doctors and clinics. This data represents the outcomes of IVF cycles when using a person's own eggs.

For more information please see our FAQs.

Where you see a “?” on the chart, a clinic has done fewer than 20 cycles in this category and age range, so the CDC says showing percentages from this small data set would be misleading and unreliable.

She [Dr. Shannon DeVore] treats her patients as more than patients, she sees them as human. She is so personally vested in every family she is helping to build. Her care is incredibly personalized. She is confident and she is brilliant. From the big questions to the small, and the major decisions to the minor, Dr. DeVore took care of me with a warm and welcoming heart, and treated me as a friend.
Call as quickly as you can to book your consultation with NYU. Save yourself the time, energy, money, and go with a Doctor who will treat you as a human being, with kindness, respect, and love. Go with a facility like NYU that has a waitlist for a real reason, and that has one of the most stellar labs in the country. You will not regret your decision to choose Dr. DeVore, I am forever grateful to her.
How was your experience with Shannon DeVore at NYU Langone Fertility Center?
Reviews are oftentimes left when we are unhappy, disappointed, or have an overall sub-par experience in our lives, and rarely left in positive circumstances. Reviews are also best shared when you have something to compare them to, context is critical and xespecially matters in a situation as sensitive as an IVF journey. This time, I wanted to share my incredibly positive experience in working with Shannon DeVore. To explain a bit about my history- I conceived my son unassisted in 2019. I only have one ovary and was 32 at the time so following his birth, I decided it would be a smart decision to freeze embryos, knowing I wanted a large family and more than one child. After moving from NYC (where we lived for 11 years and where I still work), I went to a clinic in Miami where I had a good experience. Despite having one ovary, we got good results after learning my body and a second retrieval. Unfortunately of the 4 embryos we transferred (DET blighted ovum, SET resulting in my daughter in 2021, SET negative) only one turned into a live birth. We tried to conceive again in 2022 unassisted, but realized quickly that my ovulation was unpredictable due to low LH and hypothalamic tendencies. I am grateful that I had coverage through my company, and decided to pursue IVF for our third baby. I am what people call “super type A”. I research everything to the furthest degree, and I knew going to NYC would be our best chance of success. I finally settled on a Doctor at a large practice with a large social following, and felt great at the initial consultation. We had solid numbers in terms of eggs retrieved, but a low euploid ratio for the three retrievals done at this clinic. At 35 years old this didn't make sense to me. I am the type of patient that has numerous questions. I’ve had loss, and need reassurance. Despite sharing all of this upfront, and what I thought was a mutually respectful relationship, I unfortunately did not receive that from this Doctor going into and following our third retrieval. My questions were “too much and displaying a lack of trust” and I knew at that time I needed to make a change for my mental sanity and for hopefully better results. This process is mentally draining, and incredibly challenging. Who you choose as your Doctor to walk alongside you in your journey makes a world of difference. I had Dr. DeVore on my initial list but she was on maternity leave at the time, and thus, I went with my first NYC clinic and Doctor. Following the issues mentioned above, I went back to my initial list. Simultaneously, I had a friend who had recently gone to NYU. I truly believe that people are put in your life for a reason, and three girls on my team had also gone through IVF. Two at NYU and one in NJ years ago. One of their cases was particularly challenging, and after multiple transfers, her first SET at NYU worked. And then, her surrogates first SET at NYU also worked. I remember knowing, in theory, that “lab quality” mattered, but it wasn't until my own results drastically improved that I realized how critical lab quality was critical. This other clinic was large, and had good stats, but my results at NYU were exponentially better due to Dr. DeVore’s individualized protocol, care, attention, and the unparalleled lab quality at NYU. In my first experience in meeting Dr. DeVore, I explained my history, and the issues I faced at the other clinic. She was compassionate, empathetic, kind, and quick with recommendations and solutions. She took time to comb through hundreds of pages of my records. She wanted to add Clomid to my protocol, and to increase my Menopur. To note, after extensive research, I had asked my prior Doctor about both of these and she brushed me off saying I was not a candidate and that more Menopur wouldn't make a difference. Well, with one ovary (I do tend to exhibit PCOS qualities for my one ovary) Dr. DeVore retrieved 15 more eggs than at the other clinic, and we sent more than double what we had sent with the other clinic for testing. The testing facility was Cooper Genomics for both clinics. With Dr. DeVore, half came back normal, along with two low level mosaics appropriate for use. To put this bluntly, after one cycle at NYU I had the same number of normal embryos (+ 2 LL Mosaics) that took three retrievals with the prior clinic to achieve. All of this to say, Dr. DeVore’s attention to my individual case led to a customized treatment plan that led to significantly better results. I also think it makes a difference that NYU does an estimated 2,000 cycles a year and this other clinic does over 6,000. When a Doctor has too many patients, or becomes annoyed at your questions, your results suffer. You become anxious and turn to Dr. Google and your mental health suffers. I spent days while at my prior NYC clinic researching on my own, only to be dismissed and be told I would need to go back in the queue and not receive “special treatment” inclusive of quick responses to my questions. I did not experience one second of this with Dr. DeVore. She answered all of my questions thoroughly, never making me feel bad, or silly for asking. She walked me through the science, but then made it make sense to someone with my level of understanding. She anticipated my follow up questions before I even asked them. To me, knowledge is power, and Dr. DeVore empowered me throughout my journey, every step of the way. Now, onto the emotional side of Dr. DeVore’s care, which in this journey that carries such a heavy heart, makes all the difference, I cannot say enough about Shannon DeVore. There is a reason she is so difficult to get into, and it isn't because of a social media presence. Her reputation is one of the best in the industry because literally every single person that I spoke to that went to Dr. DeVore was nearly in tears talking about how wonderful she was to them. How she was a partner throughout this process. She treats her patients as more than patients, she sees them as human. She is so personally vested in every family she is helping to build. Her care is incredibly personalized. She is confident and she is brilliant. From the big questions to the small, and the major decisions to the minor, Dr. DeVore took care of me with a warm and welcoming heart, and treated me as a friend. I could cry as I write this, because the only thing that made this journey bearable was knowing I had Dr. DeVore by my side. I am now 9 weeks pregnant (and cautiously optimistic) with my first SET at NYU and again, Dr. DeVore’s protocol was different and it was appropriate to my situation. I am certain the success of the SET is due to her protocols, and the NYU lab- scientifically, this is why my transfer worked. But I am most grateful to Dr. DeVore for treating me as a human, for seeing my fears and “weaknesses” and treating me individually from an emotional perspective. I knew that regardless of the results, I would always have Dr. DeVore by my side, leading my care and supporting me emotionally. THAT is what brought me peace and hope during a journey oftentimes filled with anguish, confusion, and sorrow. Switching to Dr. DeVore is the best decision I have ever made, and one that I will shout from the rooftops to anyone going through or embarking on their fertility journey. If I could go back and start over with Dr. DeVore, I would in a heartbeat, and I hope this review saves even one person the difficulty I faced, by trusting in Dr. DeVore and NYU with your journey. I thank Dr. DeVore from the bottom of my heart, and am truly eternally grateful to her by being my light through the darkness of this journey.

During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Shannon DeVore at NYU Langone Fertility Center?
I mentioned this in-depth in my overall review, but I have never felt more like a human and less like a number than with Dr. DeVore. After switching from another very large NYC clinic, and being told I was being given special treatment by having my questions answered quickly and that, per one of their leading Doctors, I would need to go back in the queue, I am so grateful that Dr. DeVore treated me with empathy, kindness, care and compassion- and as an individual whose success she is deeply vested in.
Describe the protocols Shannon DeVore used in your cycles at NYU Langone Fertility Center and their degree of success.
I mentioned these in depth above, but without discussing first, Dr. DeVore recommended the exact thing I had found in my research. Due to my low LH, and HA like tendencies, I had a feeling more Menopur would help. I had read that this, in combination with adding Clomid for 5 days, could also help boost quality. I was surprised, but elated when Dr. DeVore came to me with this recommendation. Her protocols WORK. She is brilliant, and I would trust her with absolutely everything I have.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at NYU Langone Fertility Center.
The nursing staff was lovely, everyone took the time to make me feel as if I was receiving individualized care. Again, coming from a large clinic, where I had a nurse that would deliver bad results and as I cried say “any other questions” everytime, NYU and Dr. DeVore’s team was such a welcomed change.
Describe your experience with NYU Langone Fertility Center.
This facility is absolutely incredible. Night and day from the large clinic I came from. The entire team was lovely, kind, compassionate, and all around terrific. The equipment is state of the art, the facility is welcoming and accessible, and I felt a great energy every time I was at NYU. So much so that I keep coming back for ultrasounds because I enjoy being there so much!
Describe the costs associated with your care under Shannon DeVore at NYU Langone Fertility Center.
My costs, outside of PGT testing, were thankfully covered by insurance.
Describe Shannon DeVore's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at NYU Langone Fertility Center.
Dr. DeVore recommends eSET.

Dr Blakemore was compassionate, empathetic and kind. Even though she sees so many patients, she makes you feel like your specific situation and family building goals really matter...I am so grateful for Dr Blakemore. It has been a long process but my husband and I have consistently felt like Dr Blakemore was in our corner. When insurance declined to cover my second egg retrieval she with no hesitation wrote a letter on my behalf. Having that advocacy - even though we didn’t get the outcome we wanted was huge.
Overall i’ve had a very positive experience with NYU. Positives include good experience with nurses & staff. locations of facilities (which were convenient for me),the new facility being super nice/clean and overall level of care. Cons include sometimes it being hard to get in touch with someone to answer questions (calling main line & having to leave a message & wait for callback. with so many patients - i get this is probably the easiest way!) but someone always did call back & get my questions answered! The main con is no consistent portal / system.
How was your experience with Jennifer Blakemore at NYU Langone Fertility Center?
I am so grateful for Dr Blakemore. It has been a long process but my husband and I have consistently felt like Dr Blakemore was in our corner. When insurance declined to cover my second egg retrieval she with no hesitation wrote a letter on my behalf. Having that advocacy - even though we didn’t get the outcome we wanted was huge. After the first embryo transfer failed it was really disheartening and she took time to talk to us on the weekend, listen to all our questions & encourage us. I felt confident in her recommendations & reassured by her hopefulness & positivity. She expresses frequently how much she loves her job & it’s very evident every time you interact with her.

From the get go Dr Blakemore was compassionate, empathetic and kind. Even though she sees so many patients, she makes you feel like your specific situation and family building goals really matter.
Describe the protocols Jennifer Blakemore used in your cycles at NYU Langone Fertility Center and their degree of success.
I started with IUI as i felt most comfortable doing less interventions first. Dr Blakemore was supportive of this and i did 3 medicated IUI cycles (all with Clomid) - which were not successful. that made me feel more comfortable / ready to start the IVF process. I did two medicated egg retrievals (a few months apart). I took Follistim, Menopur, Ovidrel, Lupron and Ganirelex for each.) My egg retrievals met or exceeded the expectations Dr Blakemore outlined for us and we ended up with several genetically normal embryos. I was very glad i did 2 retrievals based on my family building goals. I did 2 embryo transfers back to back. The first was just progesterone & estradiol and was unsuccessful. The second transfer added an immune protocol (steroid / baby aspirin / claritin / famotodine ) and resulted in pregnancy!
Describe your experience with your nurse at NYU Langone Fertility Center.
all nurses and staff i interacted with during bloodwork / ultrasounds / IUIs / retrieval and transfers were all great! no complaints there. The only complain is the original care coordinator assigned during the earlier stages of treatment was very hard to get in touch with and made a mistake with scheduling that almost negatively impacted by cycle. thankfully that person was an outlier and all other staff i engaged with was great.

The main con is no consistent portal / system. There is an app that is supposed to house appointments & records but none of my appts are ever logged there and records are sometimes there and other times sent through a different portal. there’s maybe 3 different portals i have to log into & it’s just annoying to not have everything in 1 single place. Additionally i wish i would have been sent a detailed description of all my medications / prescriptions. it wasn’t always provided very clearly - sometimes by phone or written on paper - again, something that would have been nice to have clearly outlined in a portal (they did do this for some medications but it didn’t seem like it was included everything or was hard to read).
Describe your experience with your monitoring appointments at NYU Langone Fertility Center.
All in all monitoring appointments were very straightforward / easy and little wait time. There was maybe twice over (the course of 6+ months of procedures) where i waited more than 30 minutes.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Jennifer Blakemore at NYU Langone Fertility Center.
across multiple rounds of IUI, 2 egg retrievals and 2 transfers + all medications costs have been around $35K. The largest cost being the second egg retrieval which was not covered by insurance followed by cost of medications.
What specific things went wrong at NYU Langone Fertility Center?
  • Lost appointments
Describe the specific things that went wrong at NYU Langone Fertility Center.
i had a care coordinator who was hard to get in touch with and made it stressful at start of a cycle when i needed to schedule a monitoring appointment & get meds called in and didn’t hear back in a timely manner. There was additional miscommunication about scheduling a retrieval and being told i was good for a certain window and then it not being fully confirmed. it was frustrating to feel like i had to put in extra effort to track down people & answers to feel like i was confident in certain things being scheduled or called in.

Dr. DeVore is literally the BEST there is!! If you are looking for a fertility doctor I cannot recommend her enough. Any question I presented, she [Dr. Shannon DeVore] was happy to answer. She's honest, doesn't just tell you what you want to hear; she doesn't sugarcoat. In my gender representation, I expressed nervousness with the ultrasound probe, so she immediately decided to do the abdominal ultrasound instead. She told me unless it is completely necessary, I didn't have to have the probe at all. It is a relief to have a doctor who is as empathetic as she is and really tries to work with what I am comfortable with.
NYU isn't cheap; however, weighing out the quality of doctors and the overall staff and facility, I preferred it over any other option...It's a new clinic on 53rd street, and it definitely looks fully equipped and brand new. Only weakness is that some mornings can be a little crowded for bloodwork monitoring. However, can't blame them for that, our bodies says when we come in so it's not that they can preplan exactly how many people will be there each morning.
How was your experience with Shannon DeVore at NYU Langone Fertility Center?
In NYU Langone Fertility, you have your main doctor whom you've had your initial consultations and appointments with. And then starting treatment, you come every 2-3 days for bloodwork/ultrasounds with nursing staff and doctor on shift that day. Whenever Dr. Devore was there, she was my doctor who did my ultrasound and was always patient and caring. I was particularly lucky because, on the day of my retrieval, Dr. Devore was the doctor for the day. In the OR room she was caring; as I was about to go under with the anesthesia, she came by my side with a smile, and put her hand on my shoulder, and told me "I'll see you in the recovery room soon". I cannot express how grateful I am to have had Dr. Devore as my fertility doctor through the whole process.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Shannon DeVore at NYU Langone Fertility Center?
Know that in NYU Langone Fertility, they try their best, but you can see that there are A LOT of patients. Once you are in the waiting area on some of the busier days, you understand why sometimes the staff, Dr. Devore included, have to hurry along if you don't know your questions or if they don't think anything is necessarily wrong. In the beginning, I think it's natural to have 101 questions, but unless you're starting, you don't know your questions just yet while most fears probably don't apply to you. Just gotta make the jump and start, and then the right questions will be worth everyone's time to have answered once you have bloodwork etc. to examine. Don't drive yourself crazy thinking of hypotheticals and blame them for needing to get to the next patient.

Describe the protocols Shannon DeVore used in your cycles at NYU Langone Fertility Center and their degree of success.
In egg freezing cycle, I remember my process was more or less normal. My bloodwork showed I didn't need as long as some other people I've heard of in their cycles. Dr. Devore was also cognisant of the risk of OHSS, so she didn't have me take Ovidrel; I only had Lupron for the trigger. I appreciate she only having me take things when necessary.
How competent was Shannon DeVore at LGBTQ+ care?
In the spectrum of our same-sex marriage, none of our concerns or situations ever felt "abnormal" when talking to Dr. Devore. She made our relationship and fertility journey feel equal to any other couple who wanted to plan a family. I absolutely recommend any LGBTQ+ people who are looking into fertility treatments to Dr. Devore.

Overall I can't complain about the NYU Langone Fertility nursing staff, they are top notch!

Success w/ Doc Too early to know
Dr. Wertz has been amazing throughout this whole process. I am did IVF with Dr. Wertz and am waiting on my FET transfer. She is the second fertility doctor I saw and after my virtual consultation with her, I knew she was the doctor for me. How was your experience with Brooke Hodes-Wertz at NYU Langone Fertility Center?
Dr. Wertz has been amazing throughout this whole process. I am did IVF with Dr. Wertz and am waiting on my FET transfer. She is the second fertility doctor I saw and after my virtual consultation with her, I knew she was the doctor for me. I never felt rushed with her, she answers all of my annoying questions patiently. NYU has an amazing fertility clinic. You don't always see Dr. Wertz herself but I knew she was the one calling the "shots" and her team was amazing as well!
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Brooke Hodes-Wertz at NYU Langone Fertility Center?
Definitely use her! She is super knowledgable and is very on top of your care.
Describe the protocols Brooke Hodes-Wertz used in your cycles at NYU Langone Fertility Center and their degree of success.
I did IVF with Dr. Wertz. My wife and I purchased donor sperm and needed to undergo IVF to make embryos. I used Menopur, Follistism and Ganorilex (excuse the spelling!) for my injections. After 6 days of doing injections, Dr. Wertz lowered my medications because my estrogen levels were high. I trusted Dr. Wertz's expertise along the way and just did as I was told. I am so thankful to her and her team as they were able to get 43 eggs. In the end, we ended up with 9 healthy embryos after doing genetic testing.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at NYU Langone Fertility Center.
While you deal with many different nurses, they are all knowledgable and super nice.
Describe your experience with NYU Langone Fertility Center.
I had a great experience and highly recommend NYU for your fertility journey. I had previously went to Cornell where I didn't feel the care was as personalized. I sincerely appreciated how any time I called, someone called me back. While it takes some time to get someone on the phone, they do make sure to get back to you at some point.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Brooke Hodes-Wertz at NYU Langone Fertility Center.
I had zero insurance coverage for this procedure. I would say the process is approximately 40k.
Describe Brooke Hodes-Wertz's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at NYU Langone Fertility Center.
I have not yet undergone an FET transfer but am in the process!

She [Dr. Blakemore] also discusses your history and what specific testing she has planned. She clearly explains all test results and all treatment options. Once we decided to move forward with egg retrieval and embryo implantation, Dr. Blakemore was there every step of the way, guiding us through this emotional and arduous process. When there were setbacks, Dr. Blakemore was straightforward about results while always remaining positive and discussing next steps. She also provided extensive emotional support at each appointment, and even between. She called before and after each procedure to check in and answered emails with questions at all times of the day/night.
NYU Fertility is clearly a very busy clinic, but is exceptionally run. I never had to wait long for an appointment or for morning monitoring and results were always communicated to me the same day by one of Dr. Blakemore's nurses. The nurse would personally call, explain testing results, and clearly discuss plans going forward...During that window, a patient would schedule a specific time to arrive for monitoring. Monitoring consisted of bloodwork and then typically an ultrasound (many times done by Dr. Blakemore herself during office days). I was typically in and out in 30 minutes.
How was your experience with Jennifer Blakemore at NYU Langone Fertility Center?
I can't say enough good things about Dr. Blakemore. She is clearly passionate about her work, both intellectually and emotionally. Before starting any treatment, Dr. Blakemore takes her patients through an in-depth PowerPoint presentation during which she provides education regarding fertility, possible causes of infertility, the testing available to discover sources of infertility, and potential treatment options. She also discusses your history and what specific testing she has planned. She clearly explains all test results and all treatment options. Once we decided to move forward with egg retrieval and embryo implantation, Dr. Blakemore was there every step of the way, guiding us through this emotional and arduous process. She also provided extensive emotional support at each appointment, and even between. She called before and after each procedure to check in and answered emails with questions at all times of the day/night. The NYU Fertility clinic is clearly very busy, but Dr. Blakemore never made me feel like a number and I felt as though she was truly invested in ensuring a positive outcome and making sure I felt seen and heard throughout the process. Once we "Graduated" from the fertility clinic to switch to the OB/GYN for prenatal care, I truly missed Dr. Blakemore and the care she provided. Infertility and IVF is such a difficult path to manage - you spend so much time at your fertility clinic and with your doctor that you want to make sure your fertility doctor is both competent and caring. As Dr. Blakemore says during treatment "You are my family, you are my sister, I want to make sure you get what you're here for." My husband and I are forever grateful to Dr. Blakemore and highly recommend her to anyone in the NYC area!

Dr. DeVore is very warm and has a way of being very direct and realistic with expectations, but reassures your anxieties and fears. Communication to [her] always goes through either her IVF coordinator or her executive assistant. When there are results, [she] is usually the one calling directly to provide the final results and next steps...we have always appreciated the level of care and attention provided by Dr. DeVore during phone calls to review results at various stages of the process
[NYU Langone Fertility Center] operates like a well oiled machine. The morning monitoring appointments are scheduled from 7am - 9am and the nurses have the process down so the wait is very minimal if you arrive during an earlier time slot. Communicating with nurses and doctors, especially on weekends is extremely difficult. You need to leave a note with the hotline coordinator and a nurse calls you back at their convenience. Unfortunately if you happen to miss their call, there is no way to call them back directly
How was your experience with Shannon DeVore at NYU Langone Fertility Center?
I was recommended to Dr. DeVore by a friend and throughout my 2+ years of working with her I highly recommend to others in the NYC area. I have referred her to two friends who have since then begun working with her. Dr. DeVore is very warm and has a way of being very direct and realistic with expectations, but reassures your anxieties and fears. Communication to Dr. DeVore always goes through either her IVF coordinator or her executive assistant. When there are results, Dr. DeVore is usually the one calling directly to provide the final results and next steps.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Shannon DeVore at NYU Langone Fertility Center?
I would definitely go into the process understanding how NYU works. It is a large clinic, so many of the appointments and communication operate in a very structured and impersonal way (meaning communication must go through assistants/coordinators and morning monitoring appointments are operated by nurses and other on-call doctors). That being said, I have always felt that my communication with Dr. DeVore has been very positive and very personalized to us.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Shannon DeVore at NYU Langone Fertility Center?
Although the morning monitoring appointments are conducted by nurses and other on-call doctors, we have always appreciated the level of care and attention provided by Dr. DeVore during phone calls to review results at various stages of the process. She is always very realistic with expectations and minimizes excessive fears or anxieties.
Describe the protocols Shannon DeVore used in your cycles at NYU Langone Fertility Center and their degree of success.
Our first procedure with Dr. DeVore was an egg retrieval for embryo cryopreservation in March 2022. This procedure was covered by my employer's fertility coverage. The medications used during this cycle were Clomid, Menopur, Gonal-F, Cetrotide, and Ovidrel sourced through Freedom Pharmacy. We retrieved 16 eggs, 13 mature eggs, 10 fertilized embryos, 4 blastocycsts, and resulted with 1 normal PGT-A tested embryo and 1 low-risk mosaic PGT-A tested embryo. We paid for the PGT-A testing for our 4 embryos out of pocket as this was not covered by insurance. Beginning of 2023 we met with Dr. DeVore to discuss our TTC plan. She recommended due to my DOR diagnosis that we should try naturally a maximum of 6 months and plan for IVF in July. We did not have any luck with TTC naturally, so in July we submit our approval for IVF coverage and unfortunately was denied by my insurance. We were obligated to do 3 medicated IUIs first, which Dr. DeVore was ok with trying first. I took 100mg of Clomid for 5 days leading up to the IUI. We did not have any success with the 3 cycles of IUI, so in October we were finally approved for IVF + FET. October 2023 we had a very similar medication plan, except no Clomid and Lupron was added towards the end. We had the exact same retrieval and fertilization results (16 eggs, 13 mature, 10 fertilized) but we had 7 blastocysts sent to testing (paid for PGT-A out of pocket) and resulted in 6 normal embryos and 1 inconclusive!! Although we have not gotten to the transfer stage, this was a huge success from prior retrievals. In October 2023 we also discussed some additional symptoms, which resulted in Dr. DeVore ordering an MRI. Our results showed signs of endometriosis, so Dr. DeVore reviewed and strongly recommended surgery prior to any transfer. She provided a list of recommended surgeons in the NYC area. The scheduling with the surgeons has been the most challenging and time consuming part of the process; however, we are now scheduled for laproscopy endometriosis surgery in January 2024 and a FET following in February 2024.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at NYU Langone Fertility Center.
The nurses were very friendly during morning monitoring appointments. It is very challenging to reach them during weekends; you need to leave a message with their hotline and a nurse calls you back at their convenience. Unfortunately, if you miss their call there is no way to call them back directly which is very frustrating.
Describe your experience with NYU Langone Fertility Center.
NYU operates like a well oiled machine. Unfortunately if you happen to miss their call, there is no way to call them back directly as all calls to NYU get sent to the main number, so you have to wait until the nurse calls you back again. During the week, I have found communication to be most effective if I send directly via email to the IVF coordinator or the doctor's assistant and they usually email me back with a response from the nurse or the doctor.
Describe your experience with your monitoring appointments at NYU Langone Fertility Center.
Morning monitoring appointments are scheduled between 7-9am; however, as you get further along in the injection process appointment time options between this window become more limited. During the week you have the option to visit the Nomad location or the 53rd St. location. On weekends, you can only attend the 53rd St location.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Shannon DeVore at NYU Langone Fertility Center.
My insurance covered 1 round of embryo cryopreservation with 1 year of freezing, 3 rounds of IUI, and our first IVF round. All medications were covered for all of these procedures. I did have to pay for every morning monitoring appointment $45 copay with my plan, as well as PGT-A testing (roughly $900 per embryo).
Describe Shannon DeVore's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at NYU Langone Fertility Center.
Dr. DeVore and NYU do not allow multiple embryo transfers. This was ok with us as our preference is to transfer a single embryo.

She [Dr. Shannon DeVore] never asked how I feel about medication or any other, when I asked questions she didn't provide any advice at all...I asked during the consultation if there was any supplements I can take, she told me none, they were not very helpful. But after I done my cycle, my result was not as I expected, she strongly suggested me to do 2nd cycle and she told me she could send me a list of supplements! And 2 of my frozen eggs are less mature, she told me that next time she could give me estrogen patch before the period starts to try to make eggs mature more evenly. Why didn't she give me that this time?! I feel like she didn't give me any advice during the entire cycle and she just wants to make me to do the 2nd cycle to make more money! I would not recommend her to any other people.

How was your experience with Jennifer Blakemore at NYU Langone Fertility Center?
I have never met a doctor as kind, patient, loving, and nurturing as Dr. Blakemore. This is an extremely vulnerable and often difficult process. When we went through our challenging times Dr. Blakemore allowed us to be as sad as we needed and held space to heal and continue. She never made us feel rushed and always offered wise insights. When we spoke she actively listened with a full and compassionate heart. To be honest, she felt like a family member cheering us on throughout the entire time. We also never felt out of place being a same-sex couple and she used inclusive language in every conversation. Her staff is warm and gentle. Shennetta always made us laugh and Lana was always ready with positive affirmations before and after transfers. We can not recommend Dr. Blakemore and her team more highly. I am currently 9 and a half months pregnant and I feel so grateful that such a wonderful person and doctor helped create our dream family.

As an lgbtq couple, my wife and I had a great experience with Dr. Devore. She explained the process and all steps throughly and answered any questions we had. I was lucky and was able to have Dr. Devore perform my egg retrieval. I was a little nervous going in and she was reassuring and supportive the whole time...Don’t expect to see Dr. Devore in every single visit but know that if you have any questions or concerns you can always reach out to ask.
The only weakness this clinic [NYU Langone Fertility Center] has is the palm check in which was useless and never works. Always checked in manually. Some strengths are clean restrooms, friendly receptionist and nurses, and comfy chairs in waiting area...As an lgbtq couple, my wife and I had a great experience with Dr. Devore. She explained the process and all steps throughly and answered any questions we had.
How was your experience with Shannon DeVore at NYU Langone Fertility Center?
As an lgbtq couple, my wife and I had a great experience with Dr. Devore. She explained the process and all steps throughly and answered any questions we had. I was lucky and was able to have Dr. Devore perform my egg retrieval. I was a little nervous going in and she was reassuring and supportive the whole time. My wife had someone else do the embryo transfer. This was not a big deal for us as she was attentive afterwards.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Shannon DeVore at NYU Langone Fertility Center?
Don’t expect to see Dr. Devore in every single visit but know that if you have any questions or concerns you can always reach out to ask.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Shannon DeVore at NYU Langone Fertility Center?
Very friendly and personal. She answered any questions we had.
Describe the protocols Shannon DeVore used in your cycles at NYU Langone Fertility Center and their degree of success.
As we are a same sex couple, we did reciprocal ivf. I had hormonal injections everyday that was monitored by bloodwork and ultrasound until it was time for retrieval. My wife had the same during FET cycle. Fertility pills and injections that were monitored by bloodwork and ultrasound until transfer date. Afterwards, medication is continued until pregnancy was confirmed and medication was tapered off. The plan resulted in a pregnancy :)
Describe your experience with your nurse at NYU Langone Fertility Center. (Assigned nurse: Lisa Valentine)
Everyone was excellent, friendly, and supportive.

The only weakness this clinic has is the palm check in which was useless and never works. Always checked in manually. Some strengths are clean restrooms, friendly receptionist and nurses, and comfy chairs in waiting area.
Describe your experience with your monitoring appointments at NYU Langone Fertility Center.
Morning monitoring always went as expected. Usually really quick to be seen. Only had one instance of waiting for over an hour to be seen by ultrasound doctor.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Shannon DeVore at NYU Langone Fertility Center.
I have great insurance. My out of pocket cost was about 10% of the overall bill.
Describe Shannon DeVore's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at NYU Langone Fertility Center.
Dr. Devore prefers eSET as it reduces the risk of miscarriage as compared to multiple embryo transfer.

She is knowledgeable, up to date, and considers your history and preferences to device a plan WITH you not only for you. She has a clear idea of what the best options would be and presents them as choices to be made not as a rigid plan. She is compassionate, warm and considerate.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Jennifer Blakemore at NYU Langone Fertility Center?
Be honest sharing your history and goals
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Jennifer Blakemore at NYU Langone Fertility Center?
Out of three doctors I consulted, she's the only one who was willing to sincerely work with me and try out less invasive interventions. The other two docs seemed concerned with earnings (private practice) and with stats (program director) and doing only what they thought had the highest chance of success (egg donor) or higher cost (experimental treatments) regardless of my individual history or feelings. Dr. Blakemore heard me out and was compassionate and optimistic without setting unrealistic expectations.
Describe the protocols Jennifer Blakemore used in your cycles at NYU Langone Fertility Center and their degree of success.
Treated cyst with HCG, normalized cycle with estrogen patches and oral progesterone. That was all it took for my particular case.

Dr. Devore was the third Dr we saw on a long journey starting with IUI with other doctors and ending with an embryo transfer with Dr. Devore. Not only did she offer superior care but a sense of kindness and excitement as we continued our journey. As an LGBTQ+ couple, we felt so comfortable in Dr Devore’s hands. Even though we didn’t see her specifically for every single visit, every time we did see her she made us feel safe, hopeful and like we were talking to someone who was genuinely involved in our success which she was! We felt like we built a relationship with her. After a positive pregnancy test, we got to spend time with her discussing everything to come. If you’re looking for a fertility Dr in NYC, run don’t walk to Dr Devore!
This [NYU Langone Fertility Center] office is efficient, kind and compassionate. Dr. Hodes took time to call me after hours or on the weekend when necessary...She adjusted the dosage of medicine throughout my cycle and I was able to see her for monitoring two - three times for each retrieval. She clearly individualized my treatment and took what she learned from my first retrieval to make additional adjustments for the second retrieval...She also took steps to avoid OHSS for me despite having a high estrogen level at trigger...
Despite it being high volume [at NYU Langone Fertility Center], the protocol used was tailored to me and Dr. Hodes was personable. Another strength for us was having a genetics counselor and urologist affiliated with the clinic (they both are helpful, informative, and kind). There were some weaknesses. At times, NYU was inflexible, which resulted in unfortunate delays in getting IVF started for us...All of the nurses were helpful throughout the process. However, sometimes they gave differing advice from each other and from what Dr. Hodes said...
How was your experience with Brooke Hodes-Wertz at NYU Langone Fertility Center?
Dr. Hodes coordinated well with other specialists when necessary. I underwent two egg retrievals under her care. She adjusted the dosage of medicine throughout my cycle and I was able to see her for monitoring two - three times for each retrieval. She clearly individualized my treatment and took what she learned from my first retrieval to make additional adjustments for the second retrieval. My second retrieval was much more successful due to her careful monitoring and experience. She also took steps to avoid OHSS for me despite having a high estrogen level at trigger.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Brooke Hodes-Wertz at NYU Langone Fertility Center?
You are in great hands under her care. She will take time to answer your questions so be sure to ask them as she is an expert. Her answers can differ from the nurses so it is good to double check with her. In addition, you sometimes had to press her for an answer or opinion.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Brooke Hodes-Wertz at NYU Langone Fertility Center?
Dr. Hodes took time to call me after hours or on the weekend when necessary. She also called within hours after receiving a test result which led to our infertility diagnosis. She displayed compassion when she gave the diagnosis and seemed to genuinely be interested in seeing my partner and I have success. There were times when she was rushed and watching the clock. While it is understandable with how many patients she sees in a day, I wish she spaced out her appointments more so there was more time to ask the questions we wanted rather than have to set up a follow up. Whenever I did have additional questions, she always called me back with answers within the week.
Describe the protocols Brooke Hodes-Wertz used in your cycles at NYU Langone Fertility Center and their degree of success.
For both cycles, we used a combination of follistim, menopur, and ganirelix. For the first cycle, I triggered with lupron only. For the second cycle, the stimmed with a slightly lower dose of medicine for one less day and triggered with lupron and pregnyl. While I retrieved the same number of eggs both times with nearly 100% maturity, the fertilization and blast results were much better the second time.
Describe your experience with your nurse at NYU Langone Fertility Center. (Assigned nurse: Jean Ann)
All of the nurses were helpful throughout the process. However, sometimes they gave differing advice from each other and from what Dr. Hodes said. It was always more helpful and efficient when I could speak directly with Dr. Hodes' nurse, Jean Ann.
Describe your experience with NYU Langone Fertility Center.
NYU is one of the longer running high volume clinics in the country and as a result the clinic has a level of expertise that is unmatched. Despite it being high volume, the protocol used was tailored to me and Dr. Hodes was personable. Another strength for us was having a genetics counselor and urologist affiliated with the clinic (they both are helpful, informative, and kind). There were some weaknesses. At times, NYU was inflexible, which resulted in unfortunate delays in getting IVF started for us. In addition, you don't have Dr. Hodes' email or ability to message her directly so it can be cumbersome to go through her secretary or nurse to ask a question.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Brooke Hodes-Wertz at NYU Langone Fertility Center.
I was fully covered. I believe it costs upwards of $17,000 per egg retrieval with embryo biopsy for PGT (a separate fee is due to the genetics lab conducting the PFGT). There is a $1000 storage fee for storing embryos after the first year.
Describe Brooke Hodes-Wertz's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at NYU Langone Fertility Center.
I have not discussed this with her, but I prefer a single embryo transfer.

My original hope was to do a double embryo transfer (one of mine, one of my wife's) and raised this with Dr. Blakemore at an early appointment. While of course she explained the inherent risks of anything other than a singleton, she never judged or tried to dissuade, and allowed for it to be an open conversation throughout our egg retrieval, up until we actually scheduled the transfer. She has mastered the balance of being a doctor while still prioritizing and respecting the wants/hopes/dreams of her patients. Ultimately, we went with a single embryo transfer to better suit the needs of growing our family, but this also means the added bonus of getting to return to Dr. Blakemore again in the future.
In the beginning, my wife and I narrowed down our search to Dr. Blakemore [at NYU Langone Fertility Center] and another specialist at Columbia. We sent a message to Dr. Blakemore's office first, and received a callback immediately from Shenetta. She made us feel so comfortable so quickly that before we even hung up I told my wife that there was no need to reach out to the other clinic, that my gut was screaming we found the right place for us. We are forever grateful for that first phone call with Shenetta, because there was no better place for us than NYU.
How was your experience with Jennifer Blakemore at NYU Langone Fertility Center?
My wife and I both were patients, looking to do tandem egg retrievals, fertilization and PGT-A testing, then an embryo transfer for me to carry first. Dr. Blakemore was so inclusive and respectful with her language from the jump as well as the warmest, most comforting and responsive doctor we've ever been to. While my wife's egg retrieval was pretty straightforward (her shot protocol didn't change throughout), mine was chaotic, with my dosages needing to be changed dramatically or dropping off entirely after each blood draw (which pretty much became daily). But because Dr. Blakemore is the ultimate pro, and managed my highly reactive system perfectly. In the end, my wife and I walked away with 16 perfectly healthy, PGT-A-tested embryos. I have no doubt that 100% of the credit goes to Dr. Blakemore.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Jennifer Blakemore at NYU Langone Fertility Center?
You can stop looking, there is no better fertility specialist than Dr. Blakemore.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Jennifer Blakemore at NYU Langone Fertility Center?
I cannot begin to fathom just how stressful Dr. Blakemore's job is, or how many patients are under her care at a time, because she truly made my wife and me feel like her only patients throughout. From the first visit/consult to the last -- and even as recently as this week as I shared photos and an update from our fetal anatomy scan -- Dr. Blakemore has been the greatest and most responsive support.

I wanted to give a quick shoutout to Shenetta, Dr. Blakemore's medical secretary. In the beginning, my wife and I narrowed down our search to Dr. Blakemore and another specialist at Columbia. Describe the costs associated with your care under Jennifer Blakemore at NYU Langone Fertility Center.
I was very lucky to have supplemental fertility insurance (Progyny) but my wife wasn't on my insurance at the time for her retrieval. Between our two retrievals, meds, PGT-A testing, monthly/yearly storage fees, and one transfer (which fell under a SmartCycle), I think our out-of-pocket expenses were about 10k.

Dr. Grifo always gave us his full attention and thorough, thoughtful explanations for every step of treatment. He often spoke within the context of his extensive career and personal experience with infertility, with the point being that his professional opinion of our specific circumstances could be trusted, because he's seen it all - and he also understood the heartache and hope. This was always done in a reassuring - not arrogant - manner. We felt confident we were in good hands.
I can only say good things, the whole [NYU Langone Fertility Center] team was responsive and helpful. Very clear from day one who I needed to work with on what, and they were all prompt and thorough and professional and polite. No complaints...[nurses are] Always warm and reassuring. How was your experience with James Grifo at NYU Langone Fertility Center?
Dr. Grifo is present and focused on you as his patient and never distracted. Always patient and repeatedly asked whether there were questions or if we needed clarification on anything. Like I said in a previous answer, we were very confident we were in good hands.

I don't recall doses or timelines, but for the egg retrieval I took Gonal F, Menopur, Ganirelix, Pregnyl, and Leuprolide. I took Estrace, Crinone, and progesterone in oil shots for the FET. We had great results, after 1 egg retrieval we had 4 genetically normal embryos after PGT testing, the first FET resulted in a live birth, and we are looking to do another FET soon.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at NYU Langone Fertility Center.

Describe your experience with your monitoring appointments at NYU Langone Fertility Center.
This was an efficient, well-oiled machine, and in the midst of Covid protocols to boot. I never had to wait long - times were assigned in advance and the nursing team were pros, as were the ultrasound techs and attending doctors.
Describe the costs associated with your care under James Grifo at NYU Langone Fertility Center.
We paid out of pocket for everything except general testing and some monitoring (ultrasounds) counted towards a deductible. So it wasn't cheap, but it was worth it to work with this doctor at this clinic!
Describe James Grifo's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at NYU Langone Fertility Center.
NYU Langone's policy is strict about singe embryo transfers, and we agreed with that approach.

Dr. Devore personally calls you to tell you results of pregnancy tests and whenever possible, she makes sure she is the doctor available for your ultrasounds and transfers...She was diligent and performed additional testing after an unsuccessful transfer to ensure there were no additional issue we needed to address
NYU Fertility clinic is a well oiled machine. They see a ton of patients and still manage to have minimal wait times for morning monitoring/ultrasounds. They provide the medication information in an easy to follow format and are always available to answer questions over the phone and are easily accessible. The nursing staff are all wonderful and compassionate and friendly and never make you feel like you are a bother when asking questions.
How was your experience with Shannon DeVore at NYU Langone Fertility Center?
Dr. Devore is the most caring, compassionate and successful doctor I have ever had. She made me feel so comfortable at each appointment and always answered my questions and made me feel at ease with her treatment plan. I always got an immediate response from her office and was able to get answers no matter what. She personally called me to give me results and when a transfer didn't work she immediately came up with a plan of action to ease my anxiety.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Shannon DeVore at NYU Langone Fertility Center?
I did 3 transfers and the 2 I did with Dr. Devore were successful, the 1 I did with another doctor was not successful. Dr. Devore is obviously the best at her job. Fertility treatment is stressful and uncomfortable as it is, but Dr. Devore makes you feel at ease and alleviates the stress that accommodates IVF cycles.

Dr. Devore personally calls you to tell you results of pregnancy tests and whenever possible, she makes sure she is the doctor available for your ultrasounds and transfers. She is very compassionate and I truly felt she cared about my IVF journey. She was diligent and performed additional testing after an unsuccessful transfer to ensure there were no additional issue we needed to address. She took the time and provided extra attention to ensure I had a successful transfer. She also constantly had a plan for me and was positive and enthusiastic but also realistic with the possible outcomes.

My experience with Dr. DeVore was really good. My initial consultation with her was informative, I came prepared with questions and she was able to answer all of them...her protocol plan for me was tailored with one less needle injection. I felt she listened to my concerns and she was easy to talk to. During the initial consult, she did my ultrasound, which I thought was great having the doctor do the ultrasounds.
I liked their [NYU Langone Fertility Center] satellite location in NoMad, which was convenient for me. The office was alway very well kept and modern, the waiting room was spacious enough and the check-in staff was always very pleasant. The nurses who drew my blood for morning monitoring were friendly and worked fast.
How was your experience with Shannon DeVore at NYU Langone Fertility Center?
My experience with Dr. DeVore was really good. My initial consultation with her was informative, I came prepared with questions and she was able to answer all of them. I told her I was really afraid of needles, so her protocol plan for me was tailored with one less needle injection. I felt she listened to my concerns and she was easy to talk to. During the initial consult, she did my ultrasound, which I thought was great having the doctor do the ultrasounds. However, I think this may vary by location, at Nomad all my ultrasounds were done by the attending doctor of the day. I saw my doctor about 3 times throughout the process, and I interacted with another attending doctor for another 3 times for morning monitorings. Every time, they were all careful to say that Dr. DeVore will be the one to decide on my protocol and make adjustments if needed. The morning monitorings were just to collect blood samples and do ultrasounds.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Shannon DeVore at NYU Langone Fertility Center?
Tell her all of your concerns, whether physical or mental. And give more information than it is asked for. I made sure to follow up with Dr. DeVore's team to provide additional information about my previous menstrual cycles so that she can tailor a protocol that works for me.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Shannon DeVore at NYU Langone Fertility Center?
All the staff were pleasant. They always addressed me by my name. Even when the waiting room was crowded, they made sure to address each patient by name.
Describe the protocols Shannon DeVore used in your cycles at NYU Langone Fertility Center and their degree of success.
My protocal began with Gonal F pen at 450 IUs on Day 2 in the evenings and then Cetrotide on Day 6 in the mornings. My Gonal F dose was gradually reduced and then increased again for days 10-12 because my E2 started declining. Please remember that every body responds differently. My trigger shots were a combo of low-dose Ovidrel and Lupron shots.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at NYU Langone Fertility Center.
I interacted with multiple nurses during my process. After each morning monitoring visit, a nurse would call me to read me my results and give me new instructions for the injections. When I call the nurse hotline for follow up questions, they do get back to me within the hour. I don't mind interacting with a different nurse each time because I felt like all my information was accurately recorded and that they were all very well trained to answer my questions. I never felt rushed on the phone calls and I always felt comfortable calling the nurse hotline back, although it was a bit annoying to leave a message with their operator every time.
Describe your experience with NYU Langone Fertility Center.
I liked their satellite location in NoMad, which was convenient for me. The office was alway very well kept and modern, the waiting room was spacious enough and the check-in staff was always very pleasant. The nurses who drew my blood for morning monitoring were friendly and worked fast.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Shannon DeVore at NYU Langone Fertility Center.
The initial consultation was covered by my insurance with co-pays. The cost of the freezing cycle was $9500, anesthesia not included, and my medications were covered by my insurance with co-pays.

Describe the specific things that went wrong at NYU Langone Fertility Center.
The only thing that worried me was towards the end of the process when my E2 started dropping and I was not clear why it happened and what it meant. We thought I had ovulated just based on the bloodwork but a new scan the next day showed my follicles were still there, which was good news. I think my body just responded differently while all the other indicators were seemingly normal for what it was.

Dr Devore was extremely personable. She knew my history and wants/needs as a patient very well, and always communicated with me in a way that was precisely tuned to the kind of communication style I prefer - which I feel is a huge talent, to intuit what communication style a patient likes and be able to give that to them. I felt as if she grieved alongside us with every failed cycle and miscarriage, and like she was just as elated as we were when we finally had success...
It [NYU Langone Fertility Center] can feel a bit like cattle call at morning monitoring. Sometimes the wait can be very, very long during busy "seasons" (one time I was there for over two hours). Other times you are in and out and the only patient in the waiting room. It really depends. That said, by the end I definitely felt like all the nurses knew my name. I also felt that the billing office was easy to work with...
How was your experience with Shannon DeVore at NYU Langone Fertility Center?
Dr Devore and I had a relatively long journey before achieving success. After a monitored cycle, a canceled Clomid IUI (too many follicles), four failed IUIs, two miscarriages of euploid IVF embryo transfers, and a referral to reproductive immunology, we got pregnant on our third IVF transfer. I felt that Dr Devore was very much on our team throughout the entire process. It was always clear that she had a deep understanding of the science and was making evidence-based decisions in our care. After our second euploid loss, she referred us to a reproductive immunologist given my history of lupus and other autoimmune conditions. Whereas another RE might have kept transferring embryos in hopes one "stuck," Dr Devore was willing to explore a relatively-unknown field because she believed it might be uniquely helpful in my situation, with my medical history. Throughout, I felt Dr Devore showed great compassion both for my anxiety throughout treatment, as well as for our grief at losing our embryos. I have a PhD in a science field and my husband is a medical doctor, so we were relatively well-informed and research-minded patients. I'm sure that can be annoying for some doctors to deal with, but Dr Devore didn't miss a beat. She was always prepared to answer our questions, did not hesitate to say "I don't know, but I'll look into it" when that was the case, and was extremely well-versed in all the statistics and risks vs benefits for various treatments. Importantly, I also never felt like I was being taken advantage of financially. I am a member of an online support group for people dealing with infertility and have watched several of my friends undergo numerous expensive, invasive tests and treatments that did not have solid scientific backing. If I asked Dr Devore about pursuing a test or treatment that she did not feel was evidence-based or appropriate for my personal situation, she never hesitated to say so. I never felt pressured into doing something just for the sake of it - every step of my treatment felt personalized and well-considered.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Shannon DeVore at NYU Langone Fertility Center?
Trust is so important in a doctor-patient relationship. I felt I could trust Dr Devore implicitly because of her candor and honesty. I also felt like she had a really solid grasp on the science behind everything she recommended. I know trust can take time to build, but for what it's worth, my advice is to trust her. Ask questions as much as you need to, and trust she will be honest and has your best interest at heart (and not money or pride).
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Shannon DeVore at NYU Langone Fertility Center?
Dr Devore was extremely personable. She knew my history and wants/needs as a patient very well, and always communicated with me in a way that was precisely tuned to the kind of communication style I prefer - which I feel is a huge talent, to intuit what communication style a patient likes and be able to give that to them. I felt as if she grieved alongside us with every failed cycle and miscarriage, and like she was just as elated as we were when we finally had success.
Describe the protocols Shannon DeVore used in your cycles at NYU Langone Fertility Center and their degree of success.
Our first cycle was monitored and unmedicated to confirm ovulation and a short (7-day) luteal phase. Next step was going to be a Clomid cycle, but I developed five follicles so the cycle was canceled. (I remember being very torn about this and wanting to try anyway, but Dr Devore did a great job explaining why the risks truly did outweigh the benefits here.) After that, we did four IUIs with Clomid, all of which resulted in negative pregnancy tests. After the fourth IUI, Dr Devore felt it was in our best interest to move on to IVF. We did an egg retrieval and retrieved 26 eggs, 20 of which were mature, 16 fertilized, resulting in 10 embryos, 4 of which were euploid. Dr Devore advised PGS testing, which we ended up being glad that we did; even though I was just 32 at the time of egg retrieval, over half of our embryos were aneuploid or mosaic. Our first transfer we did the basic protocol with four days of medrol (a steroid), estrogen to build uterine lining, and progesterone injections combined with progesterone suppositories. We ended up having a positive pregnancy test and a relatively high beta. Dr Devore was optimistic that this would be a successful pregnancy. Unfortunately I noticed my home pregnancy tests were lightening so I requested an early second beta, which confirmed a chemical pregnancy. We proceeded with another transfer the very next month, hoping that this was just a fluke. This time we did add 10 mg of daily prednisone (because of my history with lupus), baby aspirin, claritin, and pepcid. Again we had a positive beta. This time Dr Devore scheduled an earlier second beta (because of the previous chemical), and unfortunately once again we learned I was having a chemical at the same gestational age as my last. Rather than go into a third transfer, Dr Devore advised pursuing testing with a trusted local reproductive immunologist. Reproductive immunology is a relatively new field of fertility treatment and has been controversial as there is not much evidence around it. Dr Devore communicated to us that she would not make this recommendation to most patients, and that it was just because of my history of several autoimmune diseases and the fact that both my euploid losses were at the same gestational age that she suspected an immune issue might be the cause. I remember asking if we could look into endometriosis or do an ERA first, but she was very firm in her belief that immune issues were likely at the root of my miscarriages. With that in mind, we did do the reproductive immunology testing, which ended up revealing several potential culprits for our losses. As part of that treatment I did an intralipids infusion four weeks before transfer, an IVIG infusion four days before transfer (and every 3 weeks thereafter until 16 weeks of pregnancy), 20 mg of prednisone daily (until 16 weeks), baby aspirin, 60 mg lovenox daily throughout entire pregnancy, metformin 1500 mg daily, magnesium citrate, calcium, vitamin D, probiotics, and prescription folate. We transferred our third embryo, which was a 3CB. Again we got a positive beta, much higher even than the (high) beta from our first transfer. We did another beta two days later, and every two days thereafter until 21 days past transfer, and confirmed that hcg continued to double. We saw a strong heartbeat on ultrasound at 6w3d, and I am now 24 weeks pregnant on this protocol.
Describe your experience with your nurse at NYU Langone Fertility Center. (Assigned nurse: Omayra)
My primary coordinator, Omayra, was amazing. I did have some issues with one of the nurses, who asked me about domestic violence when she saw my Lovenox bruises. Although asking was appropriate, the way she asked wasn't--she asked loudly, in front of several other people. Had I actually been in a dangerous situation, I would not have felt comfortable admitting it given the way I was asked. I also had one time overhearing a nurse, when I was in for my third transfer baseline, murmuring "oh no, she's back?" Although the sympathy is nice, I just wish I hadn't overheard that, as I was already struggling emotionally a lot and didn't want to be reminded how bad my situation was. Otherwise my experience was good. You see lots of different nurses when you go in for monitoring.
Describe your experience with NYU Langone Fertility Center.
It can feel a bit like cattle call at morning monitoring. Sometimes the wait can be very, very long during busy "seasons" (one time I was there for over two hours). Other times you are in and out and the only patient in the waiting room. It really depends. That said, by the end I definitely felt like all the nurses knew my name. I also felt that the billing office was easy to work with. The new west side location is gorgeous (although I mostly went to the east side).
Describe your experience with your monitoring appointments at NYU Langone Fertility Center.
There was a window for monitoring appointments. Although you scheduled for a specific time, I was told that as long as you showed up generally around that time, precise punctuality wasn't that important.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Shannon DeVore at NYU Langone Fertility Center.
It was around $4500 for PGS testing of embryos and around $5000 per transfer, if I recall correctly. We did have partial insurance coverage.
Describe Shannon DeVore's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at NYU Langone Fertility Center.
Dr Devore strongly recommended eSET for all my transfers.

How was your experience with Jennifer Blakemore at NYU Langone Fertility Center?
Dr. Blakemore comes across as a confident, warm and compassionate person and instantly makes you feel comfortable. She truly seems to love her work. I felt satisfied after getting all my questions patiently answered. She gave a realistic picture of what to expect and my final results matched that.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Jennifer Blakemore at NYU Langone Fertility Center?
Trust the doctor. You may not get to see her every visit but I have noticed that's how it works in the other clinics I consulted with too, as egg retrieval is a time sensitive procedure and the attending doctor will perform it. My case was very standard and easy and there were no surprises or complications.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Jennifer Blakemore at NYU Langone Fertility Center?
Dr. Blakemore thoroughly explained egg freezing process to me during the consultation session and patiently answered my questions. She has a warm demeanor which made me choose her over other 2 doctors that I consulted with (NYU's reputation being a factor as well). She told me it's safe to wait a few months and come back when I am ready and that it would not make a huge difference ; so it did not feel like she was just trying to sell this expensive procedure to me. She was available for another quick consultation call after 8 months when I finally decided to freeze eggs. If she's working at the clinic, she makes it a point to see her patients as opposed to having someone else do the monitoring. There was good coordination between the nurses and the doctor to advise me throughout my cycle when I made minor goof ups with my dosage. She personally called me after the procedure to talk about the results and again answer my questions.
Describe the protocols Jennifer Blakemore used in your cycles at NYU Langone Fertility Center and their degree of success.
The dosage was varied throughout the cycle based on my response to the medications. Lupron trigger was used (I guess that's because I have PCOS and Lupron prevents OHSS). I was kept on moderate dosage.

I met with different nurses throughout my cycle for bloodwork. I paid a nurse on the first day of stims to assist me with the injections at home. I had a positive experience over all.
Describe your experience with NYU Langone Fertility Center.
I liked the quick check in process. The facility (both Nomad and 1st Ave) looked good, welcoming, and clean. I was given an option to pick either facility based on my preference for regular monitoring visits. I had found out about NYU through Lilia and there was some follow up required with Billing to have the $400 discount applied to my account, but it went by fine (I believe I was the first person who approached them through Lilia ; hence, minor delay). I was happy about the consultation session NYU hosted for all egg freezing patients that were scheduled for the specific time period. NYU facility will be shifting to another location sometime towards the end of 2022 . That means that the tank carrying frozen eggs will be moved to that new facility. I got a call from my doctor after the retrieval was done to talk about the results. There was no formal documentation provided with the results and key details of my procedure (date of procedure, who performed, number of eggs retrieved and frozen, place where the eggs would be stored etc.). I requested for it and got a signed copy within a day. Overall, I had a good experience.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Jennifer Blakemore at NYU Langone Fertility Center.
Approximately $10,000 including the initial consultation and preliminary blood test and excluding fertility medications that costed approximately $2500 out of pocket.

Dr Blakemore has by far the kindest demeanor of any doctor of any speciality I have ever seen. Beyond that, she is clearly passionate about the field of fertility and gives extreme care to her patients, who she treats as she would a friend. From day one of my consult, I felt that she took note of my demeanor, intelligence, questions and pre-research into the field, and then catered our discussion to my specific circumstances and desires.
NYU is clearly the top in terms of expertise, data, procedures, and pure numbers which was a huge reason for me choosing their clinic. I felt completely safe in their hands, and trusted their entire team. While it is a huge organization, I rarely felt like a number, as every single person I spoke to treated everyone with compassion. The west side office in particular feels very community-based and is modern / bright and clean
How was your experience with Jennifer Blakemore at NYU Langone Fertility Center?
Dr. Blakemore’s excitement and passion for the field of fertility is clear from the moment you meet, and present at every single early morning appointment. While admittedly my egg freezing journey was likely easier than most and purely elective to preserve future fertility, it can still be an anxiety-provoking experience. Seeing doctor Blakemore always put me at ease, and I looked forward to our appointments to hear updates and get her feedback on next steps. Also, as someone who is personally interested in the field / curious / works best when I have all the information, Dr. Blakemore was very forthcoming with sharing updates about my progress, answering my questions and discussing all the science of egg freezing and female reproduction. Beyond being an advocate for her patients, from our conversations I could tell she is a true advocate for women’s healthcare
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Jennifer Blakemore at NYU Langone Fertility Center?
Ask questions - she will gladly answer them all. And as fertility is a complex topic - ask follow-ups if anything is confusing!

From day one of my consult, I felt that she took note of my demeanor, intelligence, questions and pre-research into the field, and then catered our discussion to my specific circumstances and desires. I had taken a consult with another doctor at a different clinic prior to meeting Dr. Blakemore, however after my consult with Dr. Blakemore - it was a no brainer that she was the right choice for me.
Describe the protocols Jennifer Blakemore used in your cycles at NYU Langone Fertility Center and their degree of success.
We used a fairly standard strategy and protocol (daily Gonal F and Menopur, addition of Cetrotide halfway through, and then a Leutrotide trigger on day 10). We did not use Ovidrel as I was at risk of OHSS and we eventually lowered the dosage of Gonal F towards the end. Additonally, I had the nightly support of an NYU nurse helping with shots. To avoid me having to pay for 2x visits per day, Dr Blakemore changed my protocol to allow me to take the cetrotide at night with my fantastic nurse, Lavina. Overall, we stimulated many eggs (32 retrieved, 20 frozen), and I have not developed OHSS (4 days post-op as of this review)
Describe your experience with your nurse at NYU Langone Fertility Center. (Assigned nurse: Lavina )
I absolutely cannot speak highly enough about Lavina. I am very needle phobic and Lavina came to my apt nightly (fully masked) to administer all medications including the trigger. I looked into private nursing services, but the added benefit of having a nurse who was intimately familiar with the NYU team, Dr. Blakemore, as well as my charts, put me at ease throughout the process. Truly I could not have done this experience without her. Beyond Lavina, all of the nurses who would call for treatment updates, answer questions, or draw blood were kind, professional, and personable. It was clear that everyone at the clinic is friendly and truly enjoys their job and the patients they see

Describe the costs associated with your care under Jennifer Blakemore at NYU Langone Fertility Center.
Fortunately my procedure and medications were covered by my insurance. I did pay out of pocket for daily at-home nurse visits to administer shots. I looked into private nursing services and doing this through NYU was not only more affordable, it had the added benefit of being connected to the NYU system

From the consult to nonexistent follow ups from Shannon Devore after bloodwork was submitted, I did not receive a personalized experience with Shannon Devore...This was an experience where no thorough medical explanations were given after bloodwork was submitted and other critical information was not discussed by this doctor in preparation for the IUI procedure...
NYU Langone Fertility Center is a nice clean fertility clinic but I would rather go to a different clinic for a more serious and personalized experience. If you do decide to come to NYU Langone Fertility Center, please expect to not hear much information from the fertility doctor after the consultation is completed. The clinic needs to do a better job following up with patients...I did not have too much interaction with the nursing staff other than providing a urine sample and bloodwork for genetics testing...
How was your experience with Shannon DeVore at NYU Langone Fertility Center?
Shannon Devore did not give any helpful advice to my husband and I as we prepared to start our first IUI procedure. As her patient, I felt she was completely distant and not very concerned about my issues. The doctor did not ask my partner and I critical fertility related questions during the virtual consult. After the initial visit, I immediately questioned whether this was the right doctor for my fertility journey. Overall, my experience was very disappointing. I have never encountered a doctor that does not take time to properly go over things before a procedure is performed (no potential risks, no medication risks for patients with certain medical conditions). After bloodwork was submitted, she did not follow up (no email, no phone call, no follow up) to carefully discuss medical results or give in depth treatment plans at the in-person visit. She also failed to acknowledge a large ovarian cyst that was present in an ultrasound she performed that she dismissed as "nothing to worry about". Shannon Devore should be less nonchalant and more responsive to her patients who are having issues with fertility. I found out she prescribed me medication that can't be taken with the presence of "ovarian cysts". This was a very disappointing discovery. You would expect the doctor to give critical information about medication before having the patient pay for Clomid and Ovidrel. I will not continue my fertility journey with Shannon Devore due to lack of information and uncaring nonexistent personalized experience before scheduling the IUI.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Shannon DeVore at NYU Langone Fertility Center?
Find another fertility doctor who will give an in-depth personalized experience.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Shannon DeVore at NYU Langone Fertility Center?
I had high hopes when I first started my fertility journey with a consult with Shannon Devore at NYU Langone Fertility but I immediately felt like a number due to the uncaring experience I experienced with the doctor. From the consult to nonexistent follow ups from Shannon Devore after bloodwork was submitted, I did not receive a personalized experience with Shannon Devore. I felt like a number instead of a human. This was an experience where no thorough medical explanations were given after bloodwork was submitted and other critical information was not discussed by this doctor in preparation for the IUI procedure.
Describe the protocols Shannon DeVore used in your cycles at NYU Langone Fertility Center and their degree of success.
Shannon DeVore did not give specific treatment strategies other than mentioning to start with Clomid on Day 3 of your cycle. Most of the information about how to use the medication was discussed by nurses you can call at NYU Langone Fertility.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at NYU Langone Fertility Center.
I did not have too much interaction with the nursing staff other than providing a urine sample and bloodwork for genetics testing. IUI procedure was not scheduled given the experience I had with Shannon Devore.

Dr. DeVore treated me like I was her only patient. Her warmth, compassion, empathy and commitment to my journey was evident in every interaction I had and continue to have with her...The most important strategy Dr. DeVore used with me was something called a low dose protocol. Her logic was, that at my age, she would rather go for a lower quantity but potentially higher quality egg than if we followed a traditional IVF protocol. How was your experience with Shannon DeVore at NYU Langone Fertility Center?
Dr. DeVore treats every patient like they are her only patient. She is kind, compassionate, empathetic and deeply committed to doing what is best for her patients. She sets honest and realistic expectations and is available through every step of the journey. No question is too inconsequential to answer and she takes the time to explain everything so that you have a full understanding of what is happening and why. Without her encouragement and support I would not be in the position I am today. There are not enough words to describe how incredibly blessed I am to have met her and will be forever grateful to Dr. DeVore for everything she has done for me.

Volume was always high but the flow was efficient. If there were delays the staff made sure to keep all patients informed.

Dr. Devore was warm, thorough, and clear. She and I had an initial consultation via video, in-person consultation, and exam, and she performed one of my ultrasounds during the egg-freezing process. She was very easy to talk to, and provided with me lots of details about the process and expectations. I did not feel rushed during the process, and she was extremely emphathetic...
The clinic [NYU Langone Fertility Center] is a well-oiled machine. I felt reassured during my appointments seeing based on how warm the staff is, and how smoothly operations go...The nursing staff was excellent -- everyone was extremely friendly, warm, and efficient which was appreciated while I was getting used to the process, and much appreciated at 7:45 am appointments....During hours the office was closed, you do need to leave a message and I did receive calls back soon (though sometimes they were not quite as prompt as my anxious mind wanted)...

Describe your experience with NYU Langone Fertility Center.
The clinic is a well-oiled machine. I felt reassured during my appointments seeing based on how warm the staff is, and how smoothly operations go. It was helpful to see many other women coming in for early morning appointments as well -- it felt reassuring that I wasn't alone. During hours the office was closed, you do need to leave a message and I did receive calls back soon (though sometimes they were not quite as prompt as my anxious mind wanted)
Describe the costs associated with your care under Shannon DeVore at NYU Langone Fertility Center.
Anesthesia is out of network and has a charge of $1070. Egg storage (annual) is also $1070. My company covers the first year of storage. I have not received my billing yet, so I am unsure of the costs, but I am using fertility benefits insurance provided by my company to pay for all of the procedure costs. My medication was mostly paid for by insurance provided by my company but spent about $2000 out of pocket. NYU Langone makes it easy to understand which options you have for insurance / paying out of pocket, and provides a list of pharmacy options. For paying out of pocket, they have several recommended pharmacies that provide additional discounts to NYU Langone patients.
