Attention to Detail

Attention to detail is on a 1 - 10 scale, and is scored based on the rate, and severity, of errors committed by the clinic according to the patients.

For example, a severe error might be failing to inform a patient of critical information, while a small error might be failing to call a patient with results.

CDC Success Rates

This is the most recent data from the CDC. The CDC cautions that it should not be used to compare doctors and clinics. This data represents the outcomes of IVF cycles when using a person's own eggs.

For more information please see our FAQs.

Where you see a “?” on the chart, a clinic has done fewer than 20 cycles in this category and age range, so the CDC says showing percentages from this small data set would be misleading and unreliable.

When we wanted to keep trying naturally before we decided to use IVF, Dr. Stein was patient with us and gave my wife and me the space to try. He didn't rush us to IVF, and in the end, it was our decision. He was clear about expectations and always approached us each step of the way with information and statistics. We believe information is power, so the more we knew the better...He's not going to hold your hand the entire way, but he'll tell it to you straight and that helped ease our anxiety about the process.
It was expensive [at RMA of New York], I think the entire process ran around $13 to $15k. That was after deductibles were met. But we also had insurance that covered most of the process...There as just SO many patients so you can feel sometimes a little lost in the shuffle, even with a coordinator. It is important to always come with a list of questions and really confirm timelines. From retrieval to implantation was longer than we thought and that was a bit of an emotional rollercoaster.

Often Dr. Stein would talk to my wife in a compassionate but clinical way. He didn't hide the challenges or the process, but he wasn't void of emotion either. He was compassionate but forthright with setting expectations.

Dr. Nazem tailored my cycle specifically for me to ensure we would obtain the best possible outcome. She was incredibly warm and kind, and there was never a single moment that I felt rushed. She took the time to answer all my (many) questions in detail and provide me with the best options in planning for my future...Dr. Nazem was an excellent communicator and I felt as though she truly listened to me when expressing my future fertility plans. I never felt judged, rushed, or just like another patient.
Having gone through 3 egg freezing cycles [at RMA of New York], I find it pretty remarkable that the operations are as smooth as they are. There are many different patients going through various types of cycles simultaneously and when everything is so heavily dependent on getting the timing right, I found it remarkable that scheduling happened as seamlessly as it did...The front desk staff and the employees answering the phones were equally as easy to work with and took down my questions and information when I had questions and relayed it to the appropriate nursing and/or care coordination team as needed.
How was your experience with Taraneh Nazem at RMA of New York?
I have nothing but positive things to say about Dr. Nazem and cannot recommend her enough. I felt incredibly supported throughout my 3 egg freezing cycles and was confident that she catered my treatment specifically for me based on my personal circumstances. Dr. Nazem was an excellent communicator and I felt as though she truly listened to me when expressing my future fertility plans. I never felt judged, rushed, or just like another patient. Dr. Nazem patiently addressed all my questions and concerns about the process (even about potential treatment cycles that are a number of years away). She was so easy to speak to and I found her to be really compassionate and invested in ensuring a successful outcome.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Taraneh Nazem at RMA of New York?
I would suggest that patients come in with an idea of what their future fertility plans are, even if having children seems like it's in the very distant future. While you don't need to have any definitive plans, it's helpful to have some direction so that Dr. Nazem can provide guidance about appropriate next steps. Come in for the initial consultation with a long list of questions so you can feel empowered to make the right choice for you.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Taraneh Nazem at RMA of New York?
When I initially started my egg freezing journey, I had very little information about what it would entail. I quickly learned that there is no "one size fits all" approach. Dr. Nazem tailored my cycle specifically for me to ensure we would obtain the best possible outcome. She was incredibly warm and kind, and there was never a single moment that I felt rushed. She took the time to answer all my (many) questions in detail and provide me with the best options in planning for my future. More broadly, when you go in for your monitoring appointments and the actual egg retrievals, you don't always end up seeing your own doctor due to on call schedules. On those handful of days where another doctor performed the routine monitoring visits, I still felt like they were knowledgeable about my specific case and my progress to date. I can't say enough good things about Dr. Nazem and how comfortable she made me feel at each step of this journey.
Describe the protocols Taraneh Nazem used in your cycles at RMA of New York and their degree of success.
During the first cycle, I called with day 1 of my cycle and came in on day 2 or 3 for the first monitoring visit (blood work and ultrasound). Based on what was seen on the ultrasound and blood work, I was able to start medications that evening. I was on follistim, menopur, and eventually ganirelix/cetrotide. My trigger shots (lupon and novarel) were scheduled on the evening of the 9th day of medications and the retrieval took place on day 11. 12 eggs were retrieved and all 12 were mature and ultimately frozen. For the second cycle, we went with an estrogen priming protocol during which I wore an estrogen patch prior to starting injections. My understanding was that this was intended to try and stimulate all my follicles to grow more consistently. We learned from the first cycle that I had a lot more follicles than just the 12 we retrieved and the idea was to stimulate my ovaries to produce more mature eggs from all follicles. I had the same medications as cycle one, but the dosages were higher during this round. The trigger injections took place on the 10th day of medications, and the retrieval took place on day 12. 14 eggs were retrieved and 13 were mature and ultimately frozen. For the third and final cycle, I went on birth control for 7 days and took a 4 day break prior to starting medications. The medications were identical to the prior cycles, but I only had the lupron trigger rather than the additional HCG trigger medication due to the manner in which I had responded this cycle. The trigger injections took place the 11th day of medications, and the retrieval took place on day 13. 30 eggs were retrieved and all 30 were mature and ultimately frozen.
Describe your experience with your nurse at RMA of New York. (Assigned nurse: Tish)
My primary nurse was Tish (I believe that is her name!) and whenever I called with questions or clarifications, I typically did speak with her directly. She was extremely patient and I felt like she was always in constant communication with Dr. Nazem throughout the process. When I spoke with other nurses, specifically on the weekends and holidays after monitoring appointments, everyone was equally as wonderful and patient with explaining medication instructions, dosages, and answering any other questions I had. Even when I called at off times with what were possibly very silly or minor questions/problems, all the nurses were able to assist and I never felt like I was bothering anyone. Julia was the care coordinator I worked with and she was very responsive as well. She reached out to the nurses with any clinical questions she couldn't answer and coordinated with the billing team when there were issues with some of the medication orders at the pharmacy or with my insurance.
Describe your experience with RMA of New York.
Having gone through 3 egg freezing cycles, I find it pretty remarkable that the operations are as smooth as they are. There are many different patients going through various types of cycles simultaneously and when everything is so heavily dependent on getting the timing right, I found it remarkable that scheduling happened as seamlessly as it did. There were certainly days during which I waited until the very late afternoon for my next medication instructions, but I was never missed/forgotten and I always received the directions before I actually needed to do the next injections. The front desk staff and the employees answering the phones were equally as easy to work with and took down my questions and information when I had questions and relayed it to the appropriate nursing and/or care coordination team as needed.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Taraneh Nazem at RMA of New York.
My employer has $1,800 in lifetime benefits for medications and $10,000 in lifetime benefits for IVF procedures. The $1,800 was used entirely during the 1st cycle and the $10,000 was depleted after going through 3 cycles. My total out of pocket cost for the three cycles was $21,917. Without my insurance benefits, my understanding from speaking with the financial coordinators is that I would have spent an additional almost $20,000 for the 3 cycles combined. Cycle 1 total = $6,610 -cryopreservation (and first year of storage): $3,000 - Anesthesia: $950 -Medications: $2,660 Cycle 2 total = $7,674 -cryopreservation (and first year of storage): $3,000 - Anesthesia: $950 -Medications: $3,724 Cycle 3 total = $7,633 -cryopreservation (and first year of storage): $3,000 - Anesthesia: $950 -Medications: $3,683

Describe the protocols Taraneh Nazem used in your cycles at RMA of New York and their degree of success.
We started with testing for me and my husband to try and determine why we were not getting pregnant. Dr Nazem explained every test and why we were doing it. Once we determined that it was unexplained infertility, she walked us through the steps we would take to try to get pregnant. Because of my age, we started with timed pregnancy, and then moved on to IUI, and finally IVF. She explained every procedure and made sure we were ready to take the next step.

Describe your experience with your monitoring appointments at RMA of New York.
Monitoring appointments were done during morning monitoring times. Appointments were given the day before but if needed you could request an appointment time. Sometimes the wait would be long but they would always be apologetic.

The [RMA of New York] clinic is very efficiently run. It is a busy practice, but I would describe it as a well oiled machine. I trusted the process, and everyone made me feel comfortable. I looked forward to seeing Dr. Nazem, and she was always a pleasure to meet with. Dr. Nazem's clinic coordinator, Julia, was amazing. She was organized, called in my medications in a timely manner, and checked in multiple times to see how everything was going. I knew that through her organization, things would go smoothly. Prior to each appointment an email is sent with the time of your appointment. You can request a specific time, although it is not guaranteed.
How was your experience with Taraneh Nazem at RMA of New York?
Dr. Nazem always made me feel comfortable. She was able to have a busy clinic volume, but always had time for me as a patient. Each visit, all my questions were answered. She is knowledgeable and confident. I know at some fertility clinics, patients mention they feel like "just a number." I did not feel this way at all. Appointments were personable, yet efficient. All my questions were always answered, and the next steps were always clearly outlined for me.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Taraneh Nazem at RMA of New York?
Trust the process. If using insurance, do your research on prior authorizations, coverage, etc. The billing department is busy, and the more you know the better.

Describe the protocols Taraneh Nazem used in your cycles at RMA of New York and their degree of success.
My goal was to freeze embryos. I started the process in 2021, and did two egg retrievals and ended up freezing 9 total embryos. This February I began treatment for my FET. I needed a saline sonogram, bloodwork, and the necessary consent prior to starting. Once that was complete, I called on day 1 to schedule a baseline ultrasound and bloodwork on day 3 to confirm I was ok to start my oral estrogen tablets. I began Estradiol 2 mg three times a day. I added in injectable progesterone about a week later, and the transfer occurred around the 21st day of my cycle. My pregnancy test was 9 days later, and it was positive. I continued on oral estrogen and PIO for several more weeks, eventually weaning the dosage. Just before 9 weeks, I "graduated" from RMA and set up care with an OB.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at RMA of New York.
I interacted with many different nurses through the course of my treatment. They were all professional and helpful. They were able to answer almost all my questions, and if they didn't have the answer would escalate the question.

I only did this when I had work meetings that I couldn't move- and most of the times that I requested, I was able to get in at that time. The office on Madison avenue is used for weekend monitoring appointments. I felt the staff there were very good as well. There were a couple billing hiccups along the way, but we were able to mostly figure these out. These were prior authorizations that were a bit confusing with my insurance company partnering with WinFertility. A few are still pending, but there is a financial coordinator from RMA working with me on this.
Describe Taraneh Nazem's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at RMA of New York.
I only wanted to do a single embryo transfer, so this is what was done.

Dr. Nazem is great at explaining processes, procedures, and next steps. Our IVF cycle was very straightforward with no complications, but I have no doubt that if we did encounter setbacks Dr. Nazem would have done a great job with managing and adjusting expectations and course of treatment...very personable and takes time to get to know her patients, and their partners, and build the rapport necessary for this stressful treatment.
[RMA of New York] Front desk staff could use a lesson in business etiquette, proper attire, and professionalism. Interactions with them got the job done, sure, but left some to be desired. They tend to be curt and cold and friendly faces would be nice during this stressful time...Their patient portal and emailed instructions often differed leading to confusion. It took being very vigilant and reporting these discrepancies to leadership to ensure that we were receiving correct updates and protocol changes.

Describe the protocols Taraneh Nazem used in your cycles at RMA of New York and their degree of success.
We had one round of stims, one egg retrieval inclusive of embryo creation and PGT testing, and one (successful) transfer. We had male factor infertility so my IVF course of treatment was pretty standard and unremarkable.
Describe your experience with your nurse at RMA of New York. (Assigned nurse: Julia Ullman)
Nursing staff seemed to be a revolving door tbh. Didn't seem to have one assigned nurse per patient or that any nurse had a dedicated patient panel. Connecting with care coordination and financial coordination was also a chore.

Dr Stein was very knowledgeable and provided me with valuable information about the process and options available to me. He was also helpful with my various follow up questions. Dr Stein is friendly but also honest and frank when needed...Depending on what your process looks like, your visits with Dr Stein may seem brief, but this may simply mean things are going well and no additional consultations or visits (beyond the normal monitoring) are needed
RMA is a large organization so the benefits of this is that there is a large support team and everything is well run - from the check in staff, to the monitoring nurses and even the finance team...If your personal preference is to have more in-depth consultations/conversations with your doctor, consider a smaller fertility clinic rather than RMA...My dedicated nurse was always available to answer any questions I had and the whole supporting staff and team worked together perfectly to schedule appointments and provide clear instructions and next steps.

What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Daniel Stein at RMA of New York?
Depending on what your process looks like, your visits with Dr Stein may seem brief, but this may simply mean things are going well and no additional consultations or visits (beyond the normal monitoring) are needed. Dr Stein and his team are always very responsive so you are always able to contact them for additional information between visits if needed. If your personal preference is to have more in-depth consultations/conversations with your doctor, consider a smaller fertility clinic rather than RMA.

Dr Stein was always very friendly and helpful and he and his team was always available for any questions.
Describe the protocols Daniel Stein used in your cycles at RMA of New York and their degree of success.
I underwent the egg freezing process some years ago. When I decided I wanted to start a family, Dr Stein explained the option of IUI and IVF to me. We decided to try one round of IUI. When that was unsuccessful, we decided to try IVF using half of my frozen eggs. I had one transfer and am currently in the early stages of pregnancy.

RMA is a large organization so every thing is very organized and runs smoothly. My dedicated nurse was always available to answer any questions I had and the whole supporting staff and team worked together perfectly to schedule appointments and provide clear instructions and next steps.
Describe your experience with RMA of New York.
RMA is a large organization so the benefits of this is that there is a large support team and everything is well run - from the check in staff, to the monitoring nurses and even the finance team. They also have various office locations in Manhattan so you can easily find a location that is most convenient for you. They also have an office that opens on the weekends, which is helpful in case you have appointments or need to call a doctor/nurse.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Daniel Stein at RMA of New York.
Total out of pocket costs will depend on your insurance coverage. The medication for the egg freezing process is the most expensive portion (can be up to $10k depending how much medication you need) if your insurance coverage does not cover all or majority of the costs. Egg storage is about $1000 per year after the first year (first year is included as part of the process). Each round of IUI is about $1500. Total IVF out of pocket can be up to $5000 as may insurance carriers do not cover genetic testing, which is required as part of IVF process at RMA.
Describe Daniel Stein's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at RMA of New York.
RMA only allows for transfer of one embryo at a time.

we saw him [Dr. Stein] over 3 years I liked how straightforward he was but he was not negative. He never gave us false hope but he never gave up on us. We did 3 egg retrievals and he adjusted my medication each time and our results kept getting better even though I kept getting older. He always told us what was happening even if it wasn’t going to the way I wanted which I appreciated. He will answer all questions and meet with you as much as you would like but you need to be your own advocate and set up the appointments...
The [RMA of New York] were very organized and efficient...From billing, to front desk to the nurses and Dr. Stein everyone was professional and reliable. I would say however our IVF coordinator was not that helpful. She seemed busy and was not as responsive...Eliza and all of the nurses were wonderful. They were so reliable and always got back to me no matter what the same day. They were kind, warm and extremely organized. I truly felt supported...
How was your experience with Daniel Stein at RMA of New York?
I chose Dr. Stein due to his expertise, success and years of experience. As we saw him over 3 years I liked how straightforward he was but he was not negative. He never gave us false hope but he never gave up on us. We did 3 egg retrievals and he adjusted my medication each time and our results kept getting better even though I kept getting older. He always told us what was happening even if it wasn’t going to the way I wanted which I appreciated. He will answer all questions and meet with you as much as you would like but you need to be your own advocate and set up the appointments. He does not believe In acupuncture for fertility but I very much did and used it. I’m forever grateful that we stuck with Dr. Stein and he stuck with us through the 3 years as our daughter was born last year (with my own eggs) and I was 41. It was not an easy experience as fertility treatment can be but it is a success story! We also have another PGS tested embryo in the freezer still and will choose Dr Stein again if we decide to use it. I highly recommend Dr. Stein.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Daniel Stein at RMA of New York?
Be your own advocate and don’t be set back by how straight forward he is. He is an excellent doctor and genuinely wants the best and success for his patients.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Daniel Stein at RMA of New York?
We were with Dr. Stein for 3 years. He definitely has a lot of patients and it did not feel like a personable relationship for most of the time. I chose him and stuck with him due to his expertise, success and liked how straightforward he was. He never gave us false hope but he also never gave up on us. He did get to know us by our last IVF cycle and we had more of a personable relationship. After I was pregnant and released from RMA he even had a long phone call with us to help determine if we should do an amniocentesis.
Describe the protocols Daniel Stein used in your cycles at RMA of New York and their degree of success.
Dr. Stein always recommended IVF from the start but gave us the option for IUI. I had a previous unsuccessful pregnancy with clomid prior to coming to Dr. Stein so we tried two IUI’s first. Then we took a break (tried getting pregnant naturally) until I finally decided that we were ready to try IVF. Our first egg retrieval we ended up with no embryos after testing. Our second egg retrieval we had 1 good PGS tested embryo and transferred it but it didn’t work. Our third egg retrieval we got two good PGS tested embryos. We transferred one and it worked! Our daughter is 6 months old and we also have another embryo still in the freezer. I’m not sure the specifics but through meeting with Dr. Stein after each cycle he adjusted our protocols and in turn kept getting better results. Don’t give up on yourself or Dr. Stein!

The were very organized and efficient. I liked once Covid happened that there were appointments for monitoring. From billing, to front desk to the nurses and Dr. Stein everyone was professional and reliable. I would say however our IVF coordinator was not that helpful. She seemed busy and was not as responsive.
Describe Daniel Stein's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at RMA of New York.
Dr. Stein recommended doing single embryo transfers and that is what we did. He is even a father of twins but always said twin pregnancies were high risk.

[Dr. Stein] is a direct communicator so if you prefer information to be sugarcoated, talk about your style up front! If you want more information as to the how/why on something, just ask the question...Even after a first failed transfer, he was critical with the data and while many other doctors would prescribe a different treatment, we did a hysteroscopy to rule out some potential issues, everything came back normal, and we stayed with the same tried&true plan- resulting in my current pregnancy!
The nursing staff at RMA of NY is excellent- they were always super friendly, compassionate, equipped, informative. Everything is like clockwork in the clinic, and the nurses are truly at the heart of it all...an efficient well-oiled machine- only drawback is preassigned appt times vs getting to choose. They did ask for preferences during pregnancy ultrasounds, but not during the retrieval period when I was visiting multiple times per week.
How was your experience with Daniel Stein at RMA of New York?
Dr. Stein is a very direct & clear communicator, which are traits I prefer in my health professionals! He was always willing to entertain my questions & probing in person, via phone, or email. From the beginning he was very confident that we could get results (ie get me pregnant!) which made me feel at ease in an otherwise world of fertility ambiguity, while at the same time being realistic based on the data at hand. Even after a first failed transfer, he was critical with the data and while many other doctors would prescribe a different treatment, we did a hysteroscopy to rule out some potential issues, everything came back normal, and we stayed with the same tried&true plan- resulting in my current pregnancy! I had a super positive experience and will keep seeing Dr. Stein as we continue to grow our family. So thankful for him and the RMA of NY team!

In our consultations, Dr. Stein spoke & offered his professional advice to me as he would his own daughter. He also did what few busy professionals (doctors, people I've worked with, etc) have done- he learned how to pronounce my name and never failed!
Describe the protocols Daniel Stein used in your cycles at RMA of New York and their degree of success.
Our retrieval- kept dosages on the low side given I'm younger and have better egg production. Don't remember all the medications used. I did have a higher number of eggs (28) so he prescribed cabergoline to avoid getting OHSS post retrieval. In the end, although I didn't go to the clinic to be diagnosed, I did suffer quite a bit post retrieval and it took 14 days to get back to normal (7 days to feel better). All worth it, as I got 8 PGS normal embryos on ice! FET- ended up having one failed cycle and one successful one with a hysteroscopy + inflammation test in between! Both had the same protocol- estradiol pills 3x per day, 1ml progesterone injections 1x per day, antibiotic before transfer. Dr. Stein was confident the protocol should be kept the same even after a failed transfer given my profile, despite my asking all the questions! Second transfer led to positive pregnancy test + currently 9w pregnant.

I believe my retrieval + 1st transfer was ~9.5K, plus medications which amounted to 4.2K. This was the best quote I could find in NYC, and based on fb groups I'm a part of a pretty great rate. My second transfer was 3.4K (no retrieval)
Describe Daniel Stein's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at RMA of New York.
I'm not sure if Dr. Stein does multiple embryo transfers, it wasn't in the conversation for us.

Dr. Stein is a very experienced professional. I felt I was in good hands all the time. He is busy but always asked me if I had questions or something bothered me...was always very nice and has great humor. Which I appreciated because the process is uncertain and a bit scary. He evaluated my situation and explained what could happen...He showed me the egg that was going to be transferred on the big screen and they made sure I was the person who was supposed to receive that egg...
Prices are on the RMA of NY site for everybody to see. The whole process was $26,330...Scheduling appointments, Blood tests, sonograms, saline sonos, et cetera are very organized. They have two locations in New York and you can switch locations if you need. I recommend you ask all financial questions before you start the process. Understand the contract well. We did that so we knew exactly what to expect as they are limited on the health insurance companies they work with and we were paying everything out-of-pocket.
How was your experience with Daniel Stein at RMA of New York?
Dr. Stein is a very experienced professional. I felt I was in good hands all the time. He is busy but always asked me if I had questions or something bothered me. My IVF experience was smooth. I got pregnant on my first transfer and I am now 14 weeks pregnant. Our baby girl is healthy and growing fast. I highly recommend Dr. Stein. As a bonus, he is sweet and funny.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Daniel Stein at RMA of New York?
I had an extremely good experience. I came to our first appointment with no expectations and after that first meeting, I decided to trust Dr. Stein and trust my body. I knew Dr. Stein would do his best and I was ready to do the same. As with everything in life, the outcome for an IVF is uncertain but a good attitude and optimism help the process. He was actually recommended by my endocrinologist.

Dr. Stein was always very nice and has great humor. Which I appreciated because the process is uncertain and a bit scary. He evaluated my situation and explained what could happen. Describe the protocols Daniel Stein used in your cycles at RMA of New York and their degree of success.
Dr. Stein said that he would prefer to do a fresh transfer to increase the percentage of success and he was right. I had to go over many medical tests before having the approval. Due to covid, I was able to schedule all the test within a month. My assigned nurse practitioner Dara Berg coached me throughout the whole process. She was fantastic and answered all my doubts and fears. Dara kept us up-to-date on the donor's egg retrieval cycle. Everything was synchronized to perfection; my husband's sperm retrieval with egg donor's retrieval with the date of fresh transfer. We had counseling meetings about psychology and DNA compatibility prior to the transfer. On the day of the transfer, I used my lucky socks and we had a great time because the fox in my socks matched one of the Doctor's scrub cap LOL. Dr. Stein was very calmed and explained the process which actually happens super fast. He showed me the egg that was going to be transferred on the big screen and they made sure I was the person who was supposed to receive that egg. I was so scared I couldn't talk. No words could come out of my mouth but Dr. Stein and the team were super nice. A day I will always remember.
Describe your experience with your nurse at RMA of New York. (Assigned nurse: Dara Berg)
Dara is really amazing. I was actually sad the day I graduated from RMA because I felt I would miss talking to her. I never got to meet her because of covid. Only phone or email but she was always there for me and answered all my questions with love and compassion. She probably deals with many patients a day but always made me feel like I was unique. Thank you Dara if you are reading this!

Dr. Stein was incredibly knowledgeable. He diagnosed me with endometriosis just based on our conversation and an ultrasound. I have had issues with this for years but it remained undiagnosed and untreated until then...I was happy to trust his judgement - while he's not always the most compassionate doctor, I truly appreciated his candid outlook on my situation and knowledgeable guidance on my procedure....

How was your experience with Daniel Stein at RMA of New York?
Dr. Stein was incredibly knowledgeable. He diagnosed me with endometriosis just based on our conversation and an ultrasound. I have had issues with this for years but it remained undiagnosed and untreated until then. He recommend laporoscopy and referred me to a very good surgeon. This was very daunting for me but he was always responsive and happy to chat more about pros and cons of different procedures. After the lap he suggested IVF given that I have tubal blockage. I was happy to trust his judgement - while he's not always the most compassionate doctor, I truly appreciated his candid outlook on my situation and knowledgeable guidance on my procedure. I had one experience with another doctor that wasn't as pleasant - it was my first IVF appointment. I filled out a review form after the appointment and promptly got a call back from the clinic and Dr. Stein to chat about what can be improved and adjust expectations. I recommended Dr. Stein to my friend who is now in fertility treatment with him.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Daniel Stein at RMA of New York?
Don't hesitate to ask, while appointments can go by quickly he was always very happy to answer questions over email or follow-up appointments.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Daniel Stein at RMA of New York?
I felt very well treated and looked after during the entire process. I never had to wait long for my appointments and Dr. Stein was always familiar with my history and current situation.
Describe the protocols Daniel Stein used in your cycles at RMA of New York and their degree of success.
I did one cycle of egg retrieval. The medication was dosed very carefully and before the retrieval I went in for bloodwork and ultrasound every day to perfectly time the retrieval. The retrieval procedure went well and I felt back to normal the next day. They retrieved 24 eggs, fertilized 17 and 10 made it to day 5. Those were biopsied and all frozen. Of the 10, 4 were chromosomally normal (PGS). I had to wait one cycle before I could do the transfer because I can't take regular birthcontrol. I didn't know this beforehand and this extra wait felt quite devastating at the time. We did PGS to maximize our chances of a healthy pregnancy. They didn't really present different options, but rather recommended one specific path (FET with PGS) and we went along with it without worrying too much about it. Dr. Stein did the transfer and that was easy as well. I've been injecting progesterone since 5 days prior to transfer and also taking estrogen. I didn't realize beforehand that I would have to do this for another 8ish weeks if the pregnancy was successful. I did a pregnancy test at the clinic 2 weeks after the transfer (I didn't test at home) and the test came back positive, yay! I had a few follow-up appointments for bloodwork and ultrasound after that. I was released from the fertility clinic when I was 8 weeks 5 days pregnant.

Liza was awesome - I was always able to reach her over email with questions and she was always knowledgeable. I also appreciated that they always called me with my results rather than just emailing them to me.
Describe your experience with RMA of New York.
I really liked the RMA. It only took a few weeks from our first consultation to know what the issue was and have a plan of how to proceed. During IVF monitoring it sometimes felt a bit like an assembly line, but it kinda is - we're all there for the same thing and need to get our bloodwork and ovaries checked. I didn't quite know what to expect during the first IVF checkup and didn't feel super well taken care of (this was not with Dr. Stein). However, when I mention that in my feedback they immediately reached out to adjust things. Ever since I appreciated their care, efficiency and communcation.
Describe your experience with your monitoring appointments at RMA of New York.
It was definitely a well-oiled machine. I didn't have preferences for the monitoring hours so they just assigned a time the day before and it always worked out well. I don't think I ever had to wait longer than 10 minutes.
Describe Daniel Stein's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at RMA of New York.
He strongly suggested single embryo transfer to increase changes of a succesfull pregnancy. Their overall approach was to do everything to maximize success even if that meant waiting some time after my lap to be sure that things healed completely or waiting a month between retrievel or transfer, or doing a few extra appointments. While it made the process longer in the beginning, I really liked this approach because I think it does safe me a lot of time and grief in the long run.

Dr. Stein is straightforward and blunt, which was reassuring to us and especially to my husband; we had the sense that his advice was no-nonsense, and that he wouldn’t mince words if it came to more difficult topics to broach. He listened to our opinions and preferences during our consults, but also contextualized his recommendations so that we felt comfortable following his advice.
I appreciated RMA’s adherence to inclusive language; even though we are a heterosexual couple, we always referred to my husband as my partner. It created an atmosphere that welcomed all experiences of people who wanted to become parents. I agree with others' description of RMA as bustling and often being treated by various doctors instead of one dedicated doctor, but I saw that as a positive
How was your experience with Daniel Stein at RMA of New York?
There were times in which I would bring a question to the consult based on googling—I was careful to do my research and make my case for why I thought a certain thing would be an issue—and he would politely listen then disregard that hypothetical. I understood why but did sometimes wish there would be a little wiggle room to explore the question, especially with an unexplained infertility diagnosis where we had no real answers about why we weren’t conceiving. (We had a better idea after IVF.) But due to his bluntness, we also felt reassured when he would tell us that things looked good at a monitoring appointment, both during the IVF cycle and in the first few touch-and-go weeks of pregnancy; if something didn’t worry him, then we followed his lead and didn’t let it worry us.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Daniel Stein at RMA of New York?
Come prepared with questions, as consults would be fairly straightforward and to-the-point. He would often answer most of my questions before I asked them, but it helped to know what the most important information to get out of each consult was.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Daniel Stein at RMA of New York?
We experienced an extraordinary dilemma involving a sudden death in the family during our IVF transfer cycle. Dr. Stein and his team made themselves available for several last-minute panicked calls wondering if we should delay/cancel our cycle as well as worrying over stress levels and implantation. Dr. Stein's straightforward advice was a huge comfort when our emotions were all over the place. Dr. Stein’s nurse team was wonderful, always willing to take a few extra minutes on the phone during post-monitoring check-ins to clarify instructions or ease my fears. When I had to unexpectedly fly cross-country following the aforementioned family emergency, RMA was flexible with me having to get my post-transfer beta blood tests at a local lab and deal with the time zone difference in processing and communicating results.
Describe the protocols Daniel Stein used in your cycles at RMA of New York and their degree of success.
4 IUIs with Letrozole + HCG trigger shot IVF egg retrieval: We did an antagonist protocol (freeze all) that started with birth control pill, adding the supplements CoQ10 and DHEA to my prenatals. Gonadatropins included Follistim + Menopur + Ganirelix, with a Lupron + Pregnyl trigger shot. This was all very straightforward and I was a quick responder, with less than two weeks between first shots and retrieval. IVF frozen embryo transfer took a bit longer, because my body was slow to react to estrogen and build up a thick enough uterine lining. We started again with birth control, then cycled through a couple of different estrogen options (oral vs vaginal pills, patch) before landing on Estradiol (pill) + Estradiol Valerate (injection) + Progesterone-in-Oil injection. My transfer was two weeks delayed from our initial projected date as we waited for my lining to get to the bare minimum of what they felt comfortable transferring with.
Describe your experience with your nurse at RMA of New York. (Assigned nurse: Eliza)
Dr. Stein’s nurse team was wonderful, always willing to take a few extra minutes on the phone during post-monitoring check-ins to clarify instructions or ease my fears. Eliza in particular always sounded cheerful and engaged, remembering who I was and asking after my family. When I had to unexpectedly fly cross-country following the aforementioned family emergency, RMA was flexible with me having to get my post-transfer beta blood tests at a local lab and deal with the time zone difference in processing and communicating results.
Describe your experience with RMA of New York.
I appreciated RMA’s adherence to inclusive language; even though we are a heterosexual couple, we always referred to my husband as my partner. It created an atmosphere that welcomed all experiences of people who wanted to become parents. I agree with others' description of RMA as bustling and often being treated by various doctors instead of one dedicated doctor, but I saw that as a positive. I couldn’t always see Dr. Stein and his team, occasionally due to scheduling but mostly because his office (Westside) was so far from my apartment that I preferred to do my IVF monitoring appointments at the Brooklyn office nearby. This was a benefit in that it allowed me to get to know other doctors and nurse teams as well, especially Dr. Tia Jackson-Bey. I appreciated this flexibility, as when timing made it so that I wouldn’t have Dr. Stein performing my egg retrieval (it was Dr. Taraneh Nazem instead), I already felt comfortable moving between doctors at the practice.
Describe your experience with your monitoring appointments at RMA of New York.
Monitoring appointments were great. For the most part, I was able to go to whichever clinic was most convenient for me. Once or twice RMA had to ask me to go to a specific location because of timing, but they were apologetic and worked with me to keep it convenient. I was also able to request earlier monitoring times when needed in specific circumstances.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Daniel Stein at RMA of New York.
Unfortunately our insurance did not cover most of our infertility treatment, so we spent about 25K total with RMA: 1 IVF retrieval + 1 FET (we got medication + treatment bundles through WINFertility), plus copays for office visits and the IUIs.
Describe Daniel Stein's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at RMA of New York.
As far as I understand, Dr. Stein and the clinic will only perform eSET, but that was absolutely fine with us.

Describe the specific things that went wrong at RMA of New York.
We did treatment with RMA New York for a year, and there were only two dips in communication. One involved not communicating that we needed to complete a certain test and receive results before starting a treatment cycle; because we were delayed by a week or two, we lost that cycle to do what I believe was an IUI. Not a big deal in the long run, but frustrating when it feels like every cycle counts. There was also a delay in communication between changing IVF coordinators, in which we had to follow up a few times. But because we had been in touch with our prior coordinator so early, we did not feel as if we lost any time. Both small human oversights that did not diminish our overall positive experience with RMA New York.

Dr Stein attempted to help me out by providing resources that had a lower cost...[he] provided me with candid and honest feedback on my current disposition and gave his expert opinion while also honoring my own wishes. I felt heard and also appreciated the expert guidance...I do prefer doctors explaining the process during procedures but dr Stein would explain when asked.
[RMA of NY monitoring] Appointments were managed before normal business hours so I did not need to take much time off work. This was a huge bonus...The clinic worked like a well-oiled machine. I thought they were very organized in getting us patients through the process. They were quick and sufficient. Due to having to go into the office so often for IVF treatment, the hours were great because I was able to go before work hours and not have to take off much time.
How was your experience with Daniel Stein at RMA of New York?
Dr Stein was very competent, knowledgeable, and professional. He answered all questions and gave guidance when asked. I do prefer doctors explaining the process during procedures but dr Stein would explain when asked.

Describe the protocols Daniel Stein used in your cycles at RMA of New York and their degree of success.
Due to my age, Dr Stein recommended IVF, but respected my wish to try a round of IUI first, which was unsuccessful. I ended up doing IVF and had one embryo to use. The embryo implanted, I became pregnant, and gave birth to a healthy baby boy.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at RMA of New York.
Overall the nurses were great and always answered questions. However, I had an encounter with a nurse where she wanted me to go another round of IUI per their regular protocol without acknowledging I spoke to the doctor about only doing one round, and I ended up going another month of IUI instead of starting IVF sooner. I also asked the nurse a question about donor sperm and she didn’t know the answer. Instead of referring to the doctor, or referring me to the doctor, I ended up trying to resolve the problem on my own and it cost me spending money on extra donor sperm I didn’t need to.

Dr. Stein is truly a genius, a miracle worker. I am 43 yrs old, and now 16 weeks pregnant, thanks to Dr. Stein's expert knowledge of IVF treatment and care...he has a big personality and does move quickly, but he's always willing to stop and answer your questions. He'll make jokes and keep it light along the way -- but he also won't sugar coat things...truly paid attention to my condition and made the best decisions regarding my care
Every aspect of RMA was above par. You don't get assigned a primary nurse, because you do bounce between clinics in NYC depending on the day. Every nurse I interacted with was extremely knowledgeable... needed. My care coordinator, whom I was assigned to, was great -- personable and accessible, and clearly had a great working relationship with Dr. Stein. Her communication could be lacking at times
How was your experience with Daniel Stein at RMA of New York?
Dr. Stein is truly a genius, a miracle worker. I am 43 yrs old, and now 16 weeks pregnant, thanks to Dr. Stein's expert knowledge of IVF treatment and care. I'd previously done a failed round of IVF at a big-name, fancy-looking center in NYC, and after that experience, decided to look elsewhere. What I learned is that, especially if you have a tougher, more complicated case of infertility (which I did, given my age and some other factors), it's really important to have a doc with years of experience. IVF is tough, there are a lot of variables and things that can go wrong -- with Dr. Stein, you know you have someone who totally knows what he's doing and will make the best decisions for you. Some people here have said he's impersonal, and I disagree -- he has a big personality and does move quickly, but he's always willing to stop and answer your questions. He'll make jokes and keep it light along the way -- but he also won't sugar coat things, which you can't do in IVF. In terms of my treatment decisions, Dr. Stein was straight-forward, honest, and confident -- exactly what I want in medical care, and what you need when it comes to IVF. I cannot recommend RMA, and especially Dr. Stein, more highly.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Daniel Stein at RMA of New York?
Don't be afraid to ask questions. I found it was helpful to have my questions prepared for my visits. Dr. Stein (and most of the docs I saw at RMA) does move fast, especially during morning monitoring visits -- but they were always willing to answer whatever questions I had -- I just had to be sure to ask!
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Daniel Stein at RMA of New York?
I felt that, especially in comparison to my previous fertility doctor, Dr. Stein truly paid attention to my condition and made the best decisions regarding my care. I found him to be warm, funny, and personable. Fertility care in NYC is always going to have a level of impersonality, and some of my visits with Dr. Stein (and other doctors at RMA) did feel rushed -- but, again, that is completely normal especially for morning monitoring visits. Dr. Stein, my care coordinator, and especially all the nurses I interacted with, were always happy to answer my questions and take time to talk with me about concerns, etc. I couldn't have asked to for better treatment.
Describe the protocols Daniel Stein used in your cycles at RMA of New York and their degree of success.
One standard round of IVF. My stimulation treatments, I think, were on the lighter side, because I had a high egg count. I underwent about 10-12 days of treatment before trigger and egg retrieval. Before, during and after embryo transfer, I was on a high dose of estrogen, as well as progesterone shots. Those continued throughout my first trimester.
Describe your experience with your nurse at RMA of New York. (Assigned nurse: Kiran Kaur)
Every aspect of RMA was above par. You don't get assigned a primary nurse, because you do bounce between clinics in NYC depending on the day. Every nurse I interacted with was extremely knowledgeable and had helpful answers to my questions -- and they were all willing to take the time to talk to me about whatever I needed. My care coordinator, whom I was assigned to, was great -- personable and accessible, and clearly had a great working relationship with Dr. Stein. Her communication could be lacking at times; there were a number of pieces (e.g. informed consent signatures, medical clearances) that got a little rushed before my IVF cycle started, and I wished she'd been clearer and more comprehensive with that info and our communication. But it all worked out in the end!
Describe your experience with RMA of New York.
Everything about RMA was above par -- literally every aspect from nurses, to front desk staff, to financial coordinator, and financial/pricing was great, and better than the center I'd previously been with. The offices will not look as fancy as many of the other clinics in NYC (I went around and had consultations at a number of them), but don't let that fool you. I truly feel that RMA invests in what's important -- high-quality care and providing services (while still expensive) for a lower cost than the rest.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Daniel Stein at RMA of New York.
My full package, including IVF procedures (not meds), retrieval, ICSI, and PGS/D (minus minor processing fee from the genetics center), was ~$15,600. Additional meds, anesthesia, etc. were around $4000.
Describe Daniel Stein's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at RMA of New York.
Was not an issue for me, but it seems like they follow the science on this.

Describe the specific things that went wrong at RMA of New York.
Nothing went wrong, but I did want to make a note that it was up to me to find my pharmacy and determine the best pricing and way to purchase my meds. It was my second round of IVF, so I was quite informed, but I think it would have been tough if it was my first go round.

RMA has been around for a long time. They have a lot of facilities around the state and a knowledgeable staff. That was important to me since I was giving them so much of my time and money. Unfortunately because it's such a big practice, you're sometimes treated more like a number. You don't get a ton of personalized care (although staff did begin to remember my name towards the end). Sometimes I wished that I went to a smaller clinic, but ultimately we achieved our goal of getting pregnant, so I can't complain.
How was your experience with Daniel Stein at RMA of New York?
Dr. Stein knows what he's doing. He'll be the first to tell you that he has over 24 years of experience and that's important when you're trusting someone with so much money (and your sanity as well). Initially, he was very confident that we would be able to conceive. His confidence fell a little bit when we realized that I wasn't reacting to the injections the way I should have been. Our first IVF cycle ended up getting cancelled before retrieval as I was not producing enough eggs. During our second IVF cycle, Dr. Stein adjusted the protocol and we retrieved 8 eggs. 6 were mature and 3 made it to blast. Of those 3. 2 tested PGS normal and we transferred 1 embryo in late Spring. We were able to achieve pregnancy (despite being told that the embryo was B- to C grade). The IVF process was pretty difficult, but I'm thankful that RMA was able to help me.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Daniel Stein at RMA of New York?
Don't be afraid to ask questions or express concerns. He always did his best to respond. We had some issues that came up and he personally made sure they were resolved.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Daniel Stein at RMA of New York?
I kind of felt like I was in a farm/factory. The doctor will just look at your chart really quickly and come into the room to monitor you. I understand that this the case with most fertility clinics since there are SOOO many patients that are going through similar struggles.
Describe the protocols Daniel Stein used in your cycles at RMA of New York and their degree of success.
Our first cycle with Dr. Stein was supposed to be an IUI cycle. He decided to use injectable medications (Menopur) as we didn't have much luck with oral ones. The IUI ended up getting cancelled when I produced too many follicles. Dr. Stein didn't want to risk conceiving multiples and I was disappointed, but understood. Our second cycle with him was IVF. Unfortunately that cycle resulted in too few follicles growing, so we cancelled that one as well as we didn't see a point in doing a retrieval for only 2 eggs. It was devastating to know that I wasn't responding properly to the medications. We went ahead and did an IUI in the hopes that one of the 2 eggs would get fertilized. That cycle resulted in a chemical pregnancy. Prior to our final cycle with Dr. Stein, he decided to adjust the protocol since I was a poor responder. He added Lupron and took out Gonal F. I injected about 6 vials of Menopur per day which resulted in 8 eggs post retrieval. (6 of them mature).
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at RMA of New York.
The nursing staff was pretty good. Initially the nurses responded quickly to my emails and questions. Towards the end of my time at RMA, I noticed that the nurses weren't as quick to answer emails.

Describe your experience with your monitoring appointments at RMA of New York.
Monitoring appointments were simple. It was on a first come-first serve basis. Now that Covid 19 is an issue, that's no longer a case. You can request a time to come in for monitoring hours and they will usually honor that time.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Daniel Stein at RMA of New York.
We were lucky that our insured covered most costs for all cycles. We had to pay out of pocket for ICSI and for PGS Testing which costs around $3,000 total.
Describe Daniel Stein's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at RMA of New York.
Dr. Stein believes that elective single embryo transfer will yield the best results and reduce risks to mother and baby.

Describe the specific things that went wrong at RMA of New York.
On the week that I was supposed to receive the medication for my second IVF cycle, my IVF coordinator was on vacation, so my medication was not ordered in a timely manner. I had to make some phone calls and do a little bit of complaining, but was resolved (mostly due to my diligence). At another point, a nurse sent someone else's prescription to a random pharmacy under my name. I notified them immediately and they apologized.

Dr Stein can be blunt but I appreciated that honestly and the way he aided in managing my expectations. He will answer any and all questions you have but if you don't have questions your time with him can feel short...My situation was unique in that I did IVF because I am a carrier for a rare genetic disorder. The strategy for this was very straightforward but it was a lengthy process to create a probe in order to test the future embryos.
I had a great experience with Dr. Daniel Stein and highly recommend him as well as the entire RMA Westside office in NYC. After experiencing pregnancy loss, nothing was more important to me than becoming pregnant again and Dr. Stein made my dreams come true...the staff kept me updated constantly and I was able to proceed even faster than expected...Kiran was an excellent coordinator and her patience is phenomenal

[Dr. Stein] has a great personality. He was always warm and friendly when in the room with me and he made time to answer all my questions without making me feel rushed...diagnosed a major obstacle to my getting pregnant -- I had chronic endometritis, which was treated with antibiotics. Our first frozen embryo transfer (with a different RMA doctor) failed but we were successful on the second try, with Dr. Stein in charge. I do wish that they had tested me for endometritis before doing any transfers.
The morning monitoring hours [at RMA of New York] were actually not super convenient for me because I work a later shift, but I understand they work for people who do a 9 to 5 so I have no real complaints there...RMA does single embryo transfers. I didn't push for more...One thing my husband and I found very reassuring is that all of our embryos were genetically tested before the transfer. That really gave us peace of mind that we were doing everything we could to have a healthy baby. Now we have done noninvasive prenatal testing, which RMA advised us to do because nothing in life is 100% certain, and everything came back low risk.

I think it's important to choose a doctor who has been doing IVF for a long, long time and has a lot of experience. My previous doctor was younger and that transfer was not a success.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Daniel Stein at RMA of New York?
I had a fantastic experience with RMA and Dr. Stein in particular. He is obviously very good at what he does and also has a great personality. He was always warm and friendly when in the room with me and he made time to answer all my questions without making me feel rushed.

I had two egg retrievals total, both freeze all. I used Menopur and HCG. I had two frozen transfers, one less medicated with a previous doctor (that one did not work) and one fully medicated with Dr. Stein (that one worked).

My fertility benefits were with Progyny, which basically covered everything related to the actual fertility treatments. No co-pays. Then my prescription coverage was through Aetna, where I had some reasonable co-pays. After I got pregnant my appointments switched over to Aetna and had $50 co-pays. I had to pay out of pocket for frozen embryo storage and that was $500 for six months.
Describe Daniel Stein's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at RMA of New York.
RMA does single embryo transfers. I didn't push for more.

Describe the specific things that went wrong at RMA of New York.
Only one thing and it wasn't a huge deal. When RMA discharged me to my new OBGYN, after I got pregnant, they asked me to send them the OBGYN's information so they could transfer my records. I gave them the info but the records didn't make it in time for my first appointment. Something went wrong. But I got in touch with Krista, my nurse, and she got the ball rolling on getting the records sorted out right away.

Dr. Stein has a lot of experience so I felt good that he had seen a number of different scenarios before...Because our diagnosis was male infertility...One thing that really changed our outcome was the close coordination with the urologist...Antagonist protocol with a dual trigger helped us to retrieve 38 eggs. We got 21 embryos from there and ended up with 10 PGS normal embryos. Husband was also on Gonal-F injections 3x a week for at least 3 months before we used his sperm after the retrieval.
RMA Westside seems very organized. It may take about 30 minutes to get through monitoring hours, but I liked that you get an email with your specific blood results (including numbers). You're assigned a care coordinator who helps you through the entire process and you can email them at any time. Finance is also very responsive and was helpful when my insurance mailed me a check by mistake instead of them.
How was your experience with Daniel Stein at RMA of New York?
Dr. Stein has a lot of experience so I felt good that he had seen a number of different scenarios before. One thing that really changed our outcome was the close coordination with the urologist, Dr. Bar-Chama. Because our diagnosis was male infertility, the urologist's input was also key.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Daniel Stein at RMA of New York?
Dr. Stein is a bit no nonsense in his delivery but just know that you're getting the best care.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Daniel Stein at RMA of New York?
Dr. Stein gave some thought to our treatment and it seemed like he knew exactly what to do. After we had been basically told we were a lost cause. He told us we would be a difficult case but that he would do his best.

Dr. Stein was sympathetic throughout the course of treatments...We ended up doing three rounds of IUI and three rounds of IVF under the care of Dr. Stein. Our third IVF worked, we are now 17 weeks pregnant...was always candid with us about what he could control and couldn’t control. In our cases, we found out that we had PCOS, endometriosis, chronic endometritis, and a chromosome issue as treatments go. We needed a few attempts to find the best protocol for our particular situation. Given the difficulties of our case, I don’t think we could have gotten our successful results as relatively soon as we did if we had switched doctors midstream.
it was very helpful that monitoring visits (to check blood levels, etc.) take place in the morning [at RMA of New York]. The visits were always efficient and I was never late to work. We also received a follow-up call and instructions promptly on the same day...on-duty nurses/doctors were also quick to answer my emails whenever I had questions or concerns...Overall nursed at RMA were very helpful in answering questions. There was the only nurse who was not being helpful at all...The cost of IVF was around $14,000 plus medications per cycle. Additional transfer fees of around $4,000 per transfer.
How was your experience with Daniel Stein at RMA of New York?
We ended up doing three rounds of IUI and three rounds of IVF under the care of Dr. Stein. Our third IVF worked, we are now 17 weeks pregnant and we couldn’t be any happier! I'll be honest: this journey was certainly never easy. There were sad and frustrating times but we definitely made the right decision by trusting Dr. Stein and sticking with him and the team at RMA. Throughout our process, we learned that there are many reasons that your treatments can go wrong; infertility treatment is never an exact science, and Dr. Stein was always candid with us about what he could control and couldn’t control. On a practical note, it was very helpful that monitoring visits (to check blood levels, etc.) take place in the morning. The visits were always efficient and I was never late to work. We also received a follow-up call and instructions promptly on the same day. Dr. Stein and on-duty nurses/doctors were also quick to answer my emails whenever I had questions or concerns. My advice to any couples considering infertility treatment is to take the time necessary to do your own research and ask lots of questions to your doctor. At RMA, our experience was that Dr. Stein would always listen to and answer our questions, even if our concerns or anxieties were more internet-based than evidence-based :-). Make sure you understand the treatment and protocols that are recommended, and why it is that a doctor believes that a given protocol is the best course of action for your individual situation. Overall we had a very positive experience working with Dr. Daniel Stein and enthusiastically recommend him and the team at RMA. Without Dr. Stein’s counsel, diligence and hard work, we would not be at the incredibly happy place we are today, getting ready to welcome a healthy baby into our family.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Daniel Stein at RMA of New York?
Dr. Stein was sympathetic throughout the course of treatments.
Describe the protocols Daniel Stein used in your cycles at RMA of New York and their degree of success.
At first, our problems seemed to originate in PCOS and poor egg quality. Based on this initial assessment, we proceeded with an antagonist protocol. During the first retrieval, we successfully retrieved 17 eggs and created four embryos. Of those four, only one came back with a normal assessment form the PGS testing. The second retrieval was a failure because the dosage of the trigger shot was too low (instructed by the doctor on call, not Dr. Stein). The third retrieval yielded 21 eggs and 6 embryos. Based on the PGS assessment then, the doctor discovered we had a potential translocation issue. The doctor spoke with the lab to double-check his hypothesis that we had an instance of balanced translocation - and therefore could proceed to embryo transfer - and was very careful. This time we used OPC/LUPTON OVERLAP protocol and it seemed worked for our case as well.

Overall nursed at RMA were very helpful in answering questions. There was the only nurse who was not being helpful at all...
Describe your experience with RMA of New York.
Some people might feel that RMA has a factory feel because of their mechanical efficiency. However, for me who works during the day, this efficient approach was very practical and worked well with my schedule.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Daniel Stein at RMA of New York.
Our insurance covered IUIs, but not IVF. The cost of IVF was around $14,000 plus medications per cycle. Additional transfer fees of around $4,000 per transfer.
Describe Daniel Stein's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at RMA of New York.
Dr. Stein does single PGS normal embryo transfer.
What specific things went wrong at RMA of New York?
  • Provided conflicting information
Describe the specific things that went wrong at RMA of New York.
During the second IVF cycle, the doctor-on-call prescribed the incorrect dosage for the trigger shot (out of an abundance of caution). This dosage ended up being ineffective for proper egg retrieval and resulted in an unusable egg yield. However, the clinic recognized what had happened, and their role, and graciously made sure we could have a "do-over" retrieval. Separately, when beginning our third retrieval cycle, we were given some conflicting information about the protocol. We were able to sort it out - and it ultimately worked - but it did create some confusion for a few days.

Dr. Stein was pleasant to work with and I felt provided the best protocol of treatment specific to my needs. He adjusted my medications as needed and After two separate embryo transfers, I now have a healthy son...I liked My doctor’s approach to only transfer a single embryo as I did not want twins...Drugs to stimulate eggs for retrieval, PGS testing of the embryos, drugs to thicken the uterine lining for implantation. I retrieved 20+ eggs the first cycle, that resulted in 5 normal embryos (best embryos were boys). I Did a second retrieval (trying for a girl), With reduced egg stimulation medication, that resulted in 12 eggs retrieved and three healthy embryos.
[The staff at RMA of New York were] very thoughtful and informative. They treated me with good bed-side manner and personalized attention...Is a very organized practice and informed me an updated me of all information I needed to know on a timely basis...1/2 hour wait at most...Is a large practice and has a systematic approach that could feel generic at times, but they have a process that works and great organization, thoroughness and medical experience based on the large number of patients they treat

I highly recommend Dr Stein...I always received very hands on, meticulous care from Dr Stein. From retrieval, to monitoring, to transfer he was personally there at each step...We definitely attribute the medication protocol and weekly monitoring to our successful "graduation" to my OBGYN at 9 weeks...He was very helpful recommending the right scenario for us [regarding Eset]...We successfully conceived after 3 IVF cycles at the age of 39. I'm 11 weeks and we are doing great!
The Soho office [of RMA of New York] mislabeled our sperm before an IUI treatment- but their quality assurance protocols caught it before insemination and had to discard two sperm donations to rectify. They brought us in to explain the issue immediately and apologize. We then had to provide another sperm donation and they refunded us the costs for the entire IUI cycle to correct the error on their part. We decided to only work with West Side moving forward and that helped with peace of mind.

Dr Stein is blunt and straightforward. If you need gentle hand holding, look elsewhere. If you are looking for a confident pragmatic RE, he is highly recommended. He took into consideration our goals, financial limitations and history coming from another clinic. He was always clear and to the point- delivering good and bad news, always available to answer our questions and advise next steps.
Having felt like a number at a previous clinic, RMA felt like white glkve service including such services as complimentary social worker and nutritionist. Morning monitoring hours were never long, calls were always quickly answered. I almost always saw my doctor. No complaints...Nurse was always available for questions, always called back within 2 hours. Available for home visits to administer injections (or in our case, train my husband)

[Dr. Klein] took the time to answer all of my questions and was extremely comforting and supportive throughout the entire process. I had two unsuccessful embryo transfers before a positive pregnancy test, and he called me himself both times to give me the bad news. I could tell he was just as disappointed as I was to have to deliver the news, and so comforting as he offered guidance for next steps
Monitoring hours at the Westchester RMA location are very organized, and they get you in and out quickly so you can get to work in the morning. The procedures such as egg retrieval and embryo transfer are done at the Madison Ave location in NYC though (not in the offices in Westchester)...The nurses are all extremely kind, warm and helpful. Navigating the insurance process for all the drugs administered can be daunting, and they definitely helped me get through it
How was your experience with Jeffrey Klein at RMA of New York?
From the moment I had my first consultation with Dr. Klein, I felt that he made personal connections with his clients and was vested in their success to become pregnant. I had an idea that the IVF process would be a bit daunting, but regardless of the small setbacks along the way my confidence in Dr. Klein never wavered. He is kind, sympathetic, and a true expert in his field. My husband and I are so grateful that we were recommended to him and have a happy and healthy 2 month old son now thanks to him and his team!
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Jeffrey Klein at RMA of New York?
Be confident knowing that whatever setbacks are thrown your way during the fertility process, you can trust that Dr. Klein will do everything possible to ensure a positive outcome. Patience will pay off!
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Jeffrey Klein at RMA of New York?
I never felt rushed during nay of my visits with Dr. Klein regardless of how many people were waiting to be seen. He took the time to answer all of my questions and was extremely comforting and supportive throughout the entire process. I had two unsuccessful embryo transfers before a positive pregnancy test, and he called me himself both times to give me the bad news. I could tell he was just as disappointed as I was to have to deliver the news, and so comforting as he offered guidance for next steps. I couldn't have asked for better bedside manner, he really is vested in his patients' success.
Describe the protocols Jeffrey Klein used in your cycles at RMA of New York and their degree of success.
I had a successful egg retrieval which resulted in a good number of viable embryos, however the first two transfer cycles were unsuccessful. Dr. Klein performed a saline sonogram to ensure there was nothing wrong with my uterus before trying for a third time and found nothing of concern. Although I was nervous to try a third embryo transfer given the disappointment of the first two rounds and no real explanation as to why they didn't take, Dr. Klein convinced me that the odds were in my favor - and he was right. The third time worked which resulted in a pregnancy without any complications.

Monitoring hours at the Westchester RMA location are very organized, and they get you in and out quickly so you can get to work in the morning. The procedures such as egg retrieval and embryo transfer are done at the Madison Ave location in NYC though (not in the offices in Westchester).
Describe the costs associated with your care under Jeffrey Klein at RMA of New York.
I am fortunate in that my insurance covered a large portion of the IVF process. I paid somewhere between $3k and 5k for copays for the treatment cycles, and upwards of $1k for all the copays for the office visits and monitoring appointments (of which there were many so the copays definitely add up). I also paid somewhere between $700 and 800 for genetic testing of embryos.

Dr. Stein is knowledgeable and a straight-shooter. I appreciated that he shared his opinion and recommendations on my IVF decisions and personally answered any questions I had in our consults and over email. I highly recommend Dr. Stein if you are looking for clarity and don't need to be coddled. My fertility journey is over, thank goodness, but I find myself missing Dr. Stein's wry sense of humor. I kind of wish he were my OB!...
RMA's paperwork isn't all that clear...Take good notes during your meetings...My nurse was very friendly and accommodating, but I often felt like I was the one keeping the records, not her...I'd have to remind the clinic to order tests and send in prescriptions that were specifically requested by my doctor and nurse. Everything always turned out fine, but I felt like I needed to stay on top of my protocol in order to double-check the clinic's work.

What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Daniel Stein at RMA of New York?
Take good notes during your meetings with Dr. Stein, because RMA's paperwork isn't all that clear.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Daniel Stein at RMA of New York?
Dr. Stein asked personal questions and got to know me, my partner, and my family—all information that he included in his treatment plan.
Describe the protocols Daniel Stein used in your cycles at RMA of New York and their degree of success.
I forgot most of the protocols, but after three rounds of IVF and only one grade C embryo, Dr. Stein urged me to consider donor eggs. If he hadn't come right out and said it, I can imagine I would have put myself through the emotional and financial strain of another three cycles. I'm so grateful for Dr. Stein's mercifully candid advice.
Describe your experience with your nurse at RMA of New York. (Assigned nurse: Dara Berg)
My nurse was very friendly and accommodating, but I often felt like I was the one keeping the records, not her.
Describe your experience with RMA of New York.
RMA is a factory, which I mean in both a good and a bad way. RMA is HUGE and they've got the fertility program DOWN. You get the impression that nothing would faze them; they've got an answer and a workaround for everything. The downside is that RMA can feel like an assembly line set to run a little too fast. On multiple occasions, I'd have to remind the nurses about my test results, my medication schedule, and more. I suspect that their patient records are scribbled in crayon and filed between take-out menus, because no one seemed to have a 100% grasp of what was going on. I dealt with it by being super-organized and knowledgable about my own protocol, and if you can deal with that, you'll be fine.
Describe your experience with your monitoring appointments at RMA of New York.
Weekend mornings, all monitoring is funneled to a single clinic location, so there would be a HUGE crowd and a long wait. Otherwise, monitoring was efficient.
Describe Daniel Stein's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at RMA of New York.
Dr. Stein prefers to transfer a single embryo.
