Attention to Detail

Attention to detail is on a 1 - 10 scale, and is scored based on the rate, and severity, of errors committed by the clinic according to the patients.

For example, a severe error might be failing to inform a patient of critical information, while a small error might be failing to call a patient with results.

CDC Success Rates

This is the most recent data from the CDC. The CDC cautions that it should not be used to compare doctors and clinics. This data represents the outcomes of IVF cycles when using a person's own eggs.

For more information please see our FAQs.

Where you see a “?” on the chart, a clinic has done fewer than 20 cycles in this category and age range, so the CDC says showing percentages from this small data set would be misleading and unreliable.

Dr. Barker is very knowledgeable and I felt that she really listened and cared about our unique situation and wanted to work with us to make a plan that made us all comfortable. After first IUI with her I got pregnant and it later ended in a miscarriage. She was very compassionate, caring, and extended a personal message to me saying she was sorry for our loss. I trust her and the plan she has made for us in the future and I am hopeful that I will be able to have a healthy baby under her care. I would highly recommend Dr. Barker to anyone I know struggling with fertility related issues.
I have had a great experience working with Seattle Reproductive Medicine (Tacoma Office). From the moment you walk in the door everyone is welcoming, caring, and discrete. I feel that they try very hard to keep your privacy and make you feel welcomed and taken care of...She [nures] was very kind, informative, and always available to answer any questions I may have along the way!...Dr. Barker made me feel extremely comfortable and informed as soon as I met with her! I felt like she really cared about my health, my wishes, and my goals. She made me have hope for the first time in a long time!

What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Nichole Barker at Seattle Reproductive Medicine?
I would tell a prospective patient to feel comfortable asking lots of questions and discussing all of your ideas and fears. In the past I had felt dumb asking my fertility doctors so many questions, but Dr. Barker answered every question my husband and I had in full detail. She never made us feel dumb for our uninformed questions. I would also tell a prospective patient to not loose hope and to trust the process. I really believe and trust Dr. Barkers treatment plan!

Describe the protocols Nichole Barker used in your cycles at Seattle Reproductive Medicine and their degree of success.
I had worked with a different fertility doctor for over a year and did 7 IUI's with no success. When we first met with Dr. Barker I explained my frustration of the past and she quickly looked over my chart and we planned to try two more IUI's with more aggressive treatment. So far with Dr. Barker we have done two IUI cycles with clomid and gonal -F I got pregnant after my first IUI, but I had a miscarriage at about 7.5 weeks and my second IUI was not successful.

As we talk about doing IVF as my next course of treatment for my specific situation (I have Factor IV) She explained that she would feel most comfortable with doing a single embryo transfer to keep me safe. I agree with her!

She [Dr. Nancy Klein] was excellent and was very patient and explained everything thoroughly. She was knowledgeable and had a plan for whatever course we were/are ready to pursue. She never pushed me to do any treatments we weren't ready for and was supportive of the research i'd done and allowed me to direct my next step(s) with her guiding me along. I highly recommend her
I love everything about the clinic [Seattle Reproductive Medicine] EXCEPT the one embryo transfer rule. They are compassionate, knowledgeable, flexible with their scheduling when I needed same day bloodwork or ultrasounds. They get bloodwork results back same day, and everything is posted on the online portal for future reference. The staff is kind, empathetic, and get to know you personally. They know me by name anytime I come in. The office is clean and professional and the music is calming

She [Dr. Nichole Barker] always looked out for me and my individual treatment. When I would ask to move to a stronger treatment she would talk to me about it and do what I asked...I thought she was wonderful she was always positive. My first IUI was kind of traumatic because the nurse my cervix was being difficult Dr. Barker came in and made me feel better and get the procedure done. For our next one they made sure I saw my dr. And I was much more relaxed because of it.
Billing is a weakness [at Seattle Reproductive Medicine]. I was constantly asking about billing and when I'd see it and if you have a surgery they're surgery department billing is separate from the office billing but when I asked the financial advisor she told me it was a mistake and not to pay it. Ended up working it all out but it was all confusing...Rachel was my first nurse and she had no compassion and poor communication skills. I told her I wanted (1) valium for a procedure and she made me feel like I was being a baby about it. I asked for a new nurse. Heidi was my new nurse and she was wonderful!! She made me feel heard and cared for. Even 7 months pregnant she checked in on me to see how the baby and i were doing.

During our consultation with the doctor he [Dr. Mazur] was very nice, informative, and professional. I have seen him once after that to talk about possible IVF after six cycles of not getting pregnant because I am not producing enough eggs for my age....Very nice guy who explained everything to us that we wanted and was very professional.... The nurses are more available than he is unless you make an appointment with him. Although, I never contacted him myself.
I like how the Tacoma office [Seattle Repro Med] is nearby. One weakness is they are closed during the weekend and you have to drive to Seattle for a procedure on the weekends. The scheduling staff usually get back to you fast which is nice.... I feel some nurses are better than others when doing the IUI. Some were painful and some others weren’t.... Whenever I had questions I would message them on the online program and they would get back to me fast.
How was your experience with Erik Mazur at Seattle Reproductive Medicine?
During our consultation with the doctor he was very nice, informative, and professional. I have seen him once after that to talk about possible IVF after six cycles of not getting pregnant because I am not producing enough eggs for my age. After four failed cycles the nurse suggested for us to make an appointment with him. Even though I do not want to hear the IVF talk I know that is our next step probably.

I have been taking Letrozole during my period. I am not sure why I am taking this specific pill. Then on my 10th cycle day an ultrasound has been done to show How much the eggs are growing. If I have a mature egg, I took ovidrell injection before the IUI. I feel some nurses are better than others when doing the IUI. Some were painful and some others weren’t.

While Dr. Barker met with us upon our intial meeting, I never saw her after that. And while did respond to one of my emails that I sent to my nurse, she never individualized my treatment, like I requested. She also never explained to me how my immune issues might effect my fertility.... I have autoimmune diseases and a complicated history of Lyme's disease. My doctor was given an extensive and comprehensive medical history. I asked multiple times to take these things into consideration and to give me personalized treatment based on this information. This was never done.
My nurse [at Seattle Reproductive Medicine] was responsive to my phone calls and emails in a prompt manner. However, many of the questions I asked, she did not have an answer. She would consult with the doctor for an answer, but usually the answer from the doctor was to continue standard protocol that is used on all patients. Nothing was individualized.
How was your experience with Nichole Barker at Seattle Reproductive Medicine?
Both my partner and myself felt like cattle, being run through the clinic with no individualized attention and part of a cog in a wheel for the clinic to make money. While Dr. Barker met with us upon our intial meeting, I never saw her after that. And while did respond to one of my emails that I sent to my nurse, she never individualized my treatment, like I requested. She also never explained to me how my immune issues might effect my fertility. I researched this on my own and since have gotten a second option from a doctor who has explained this to me and is in the process of putting me on a treatment program that is specific to my medical issues.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Nichole Barker at Seattle Reproductive Medicine?
Advocate for yourself. Do your own research and insist on individual treatment protocol.

I felt very empowered as a patient like a partner in my care plan. Dr Barker was passionate about what she does and thoroughly explained each step of the process from start to finish. Very warm and welcoming demeanor. She wanted to ensure we received the best change at a positive result so she did very through testing to try to get a root cause of our not having a sustained pregnancy.
The strengths [of SRM-Tacoma] were having a whole patient approach and treating you like an individual and not a number. Negative/ Positive thing was most visits before really being welcomed the receptionist was blurting out a balance was due which didnt feel good upon being the first thing you hear about. Maybe sending a reminder in email form if any monies are due with amount prior to the visit so the patient is prepared and not overwhelmed with a waiting room full of people overhearing balances owed and or checking payments made when logging on in the morning to not ask for monies due that were paid prior to coming in. I get finances being in order is important but also dont want that to be my welcomed in message.
How was your experience with Nichole Barker at Seattle Reproductive Medicine?
Dr. Barker is very caring and passionate about her work and patients. She is extremely through in her explanation and available to talk things through if further explanation is needed. I ended up having some bleeding a few days after my initial ultrasound after our successful transfer and she had me come in to have a ultrasound to see if there was a cause for the bleeding which there was a SCH. She helped reassure and put my mind at ease will also being realistic.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Nichole Barker at Seattle Reproductive Medicine?
Be fully open with her about your expectations and hope for your fertility journey.

Describe the protocols Nichole Barker used in your cycles at Seattle Reproductive Medicine and their degree of success.
We did some blood tests to rule out any blood based factors, sperm analysis, scans of my insides to check for fibroids or anything else that may be contributing to my loss and difficulty becoming pregnant. HSG and saline sonogram as well which is where we discovered I had a polyp/ fibroid where they would implant the embryo so our plan of attack was surgical removal and push my IVF cycle back a month. Ended up being the best course of approach for us as that coupled with acupuncture, abdominal massage and the lupron protocol resulted in a successful sustained pregnancy.

Describe the costs associated with your care under Nichole Barker at Seattle Reproductive Medicine.
I want to say it was roughly $12,000 for our IVF cycle however insurance covered about 90% of it.

She [Dr Nancy Klein] was very happy to talk to us, we never felt rushed, even when the husband started talking about articles he'd read and wanted to know the nitty gritty biology stuff. She was friendly and kind during procedures...Ask lots of questions. If you want her to be involved in any treatments make sure you say that. Or at least find out the odds of whether or not she'd be the ones doing things like the IUI. I don't think she did any of the IUIs for us, which was fine, but it was a bit odd to see three different people each time.
While I was primarily at the Tacoma branch [of Seattle Reproductive Medicine] I did visit the Seattle branch several times since it was by my office and open on weekends. The Tacoma branch is nicer. Everyone seemed quite friendly, but not intrusive. There were clearly women who'd been going for a long time and seemed well known by clinic staff. Staff working on the weekends can be kind of grouchy sometimes.

During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Nancy Klein at Seattle Reproductive Medicine?
We met with her several times and she was very helpful and answered all of our questions. She seemed to know what she was talking about. The downside was that aside from speaking with her, I rarely saw her for any of our appointments.
Describe the protocols Nancy Klein used in your cycles at Seattle Reproductive Medicine and their degree of success.
We did about 3 cycles of clomid with Nancy, standard dose. When those didn't work we moved on to IUI with clomid for three cycles. I only needed the HCG shot for one of them I believe. We were going to move on to IVF but the cost and some marital difficulties put that on hold. We haven't been back since.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at Seattle Reproductive Medicine.
Everyone seemed very kind and helpful. The person who answered the phones when SRM was closed was less so, but I don't think she was actually affiliated with them.

Describe the costs associated with your care under Nancy Klein at Seattle Reproductive Medicine.
Nothing was covered by health insurance after a diagnosis of infertility. I think it was probably about $1000/visit on average. Costs for IVF, which we didn't go through, seemed on par with the market, probably too expensive for us. So appointment visit, iui, sperm analysis, HCG shot were the typical charges.

It seems like at least once they didn't call with the results of a pregnancy test and I had to call them. It wasn't that big of a deal.

All visits with Dr. Barker were done via zoom. Appts were easy to get and she took time to go over details and allow opportunity for questions. We went over pros and cons and all possibilities outcomes...We started off all natural then added medication to help future treatments. Increased dosage, added medication and changed medication when each cycle failed.
Strengths [of SRM] - very organized, easy to reach, comfortable, and I felt very cared for Weakness- sometimes I didn't know certain things or plans without asking first. Billing was interesting. I wish it was online, because sometimes I never got physical bill. I found out the balance when showing up for appt...I saw many clinic nurses and all were very compassionate and easy to work with

Describe the protocols Erik Mazur used in your cycles at Seattle Reproductive Medicine and their degree of success.
We did a few rounds of medications with IUI attempting to have our own genetic child. We did end up using a donor egg with my husbands sperm because I have low egg count and he has low sperm count. We have had great success.
Describe your experience with Seattle Reproductive Medicine.
They’re great at getting appointments scheduled and having you seen in a timely manner. Everyone I’ve worked with in the office has been nice and provides a positive vibe. I will say the first go around was better because it was pre-pandemic. This go around my husband has only been able to go to 1 appointment with me. Not the clinic’s fault though.

Dr. Barker was very informative and open to helping us in any treatment we wanted to pursue. She made herself available for questions or concerns. When our sperm collection for our first IUI had very low counts, she offered for us to move forward with the procedure and she would take care of the cost. We were overwhelmed by her generosity and greatly appreciated her knowledge that we were paying for these procedures out of pocket.

He [Dr . Erik Mazur] met with me and reviewed my history and discussed options. He personally did two of my ultrasounds as well as my HSG. He has always been very positive and was careful not to compare me to others or statistics.... I was diagnosed with PCOS, I was put on provera to induce my period. Then I was prescribed femara and monitored with a mid cycle ultrasound. I was also prescribed ovidrel as a trigger and instructed on when to take It. My first cycle a HSG was completed. I am currently on my third cycle, while all cycles have produced good lining and follicles, no resulting pregnancy has occurred. Dr. Mazur has scheduled to meet with me to discuss next steps of this cycle results in a negative pregnancy test.
They [the staff at SRM-Tacoma] are all very nice and the check in process and all other processes (getting blood, getting results, checking out/payment) have been easy. Having access to a online portal is very helpful. A lot of things were set up on my first visit so I felt accomplished.... She always responds to my messages within the hour, if she has left for the day another nurse replies

I feel so lucky to be a patient of Dr. Mazur's. I felt like he explained everything in exactly the right amount of detail. Before we tried IVF, we tried an IUI, but it wasn't working. He called me personally to explain why it wasn't working, and to give me options regarding the next course of treatment. I always felt like he genuinely cared about me.... We tried an IUI protocol first, and when that didn't work because I was growing too many eggs all at the same rate, we canceled the cycle and switched to IVF.
[SRM- Tacoma's] Strength - excellent communication from both my doctor and primary nruse. Weakness - The financial advice was not always clear. Also, when my nurse wasn't able to answer my questions, I received incomplete or confusing advice from other nurses.... When another nurse was standing in for my primary nurse, she didn't communicate clearly when regarding how much of certain meds I should be taking. I feel that she wasn't operating with all the information she needed.

Sometimes I wish that she was more involved in the work up appointments for IUI’s such as the ultrasounds. Not just available for consults when things don’t end up working out. Other than that she is wonderful... She was as very understanding and seemed to honestly feel bad that none of our IUI’s were successful. She didn’t treat us like we were a number at all
They [Seattle Repro Med] are very helpful, kind, knowledgeable, flexible when it come to timing of procedures etc. The clinic itself is very clean, modern and quiet. Theonly thing that I found disappointing is that they don’t accept care credit....Approximately $400 per IUI. $200 for sperm collection and prep and $200 for IUI....We love Dr. Barker. She is kind, explains things clearly, listens to what we want to do and we trust her in deciding what the beat next step is for us.

She [Dr. Nichole Barker] is professional from the first time you meet her and does not disappointment. My husband and I were unable to get pregnant because he had had a vasectomy almost 15 years ago. We discussed options, and decided on using donor sperm and IUI. She did not pressure us, it provided the information we needed to reach our own decision—and then she drew up a treatment plan that supported it.
Peaceful lobby and great staff [at Seattle Reproductive Medicine]. The downside is their finance coordinator. She was incredibly robotic and stern. (And I say this as an accountant myself.) Also, the front desk asks for your balance each visit in front of the entire lobby (stating how much you owe) rather than billing you in the mail like most businesses...IUI with insurance - $350 per try Donor sperm - $800 per try Monthly sperm storage fee - $50

My only complaint or area of concern would be that I had to ask for him [Dr. Mazur] to change aspects of our treatment because they had been unsuccessful. ... He was attentive to all our needs. I was a complete mess going into his office and he made me feel so comfortable and at home. ... I had to ask for all the additional treatments. ... He addressed all my needs and made sure all my concerns were heard.
Seattle Reproductive Medicine is extremely polite professional and very attentive. The scheduling team is fantastic at getting us in last minute. The lab technicians are great at what they do too! Any requests I had, they immediately addressed them and we're so kind. I feel very comfortable with them. ... The nurse doesn't really reach out, but she is attentive to my questions and needs

Dr. Mazur made sure to take the time to understand our fertility journey. Our first consultation lasted an hour of him listening to us and then coming up with a plan together and explaining each step...will not hold back with all of the details and risks to every surgery and procedure...recommend I remove my Fallopian tubes since a previous procedure revealed blocked tubes and endometriosis...
[Seattle Reproductive Medicine] is located in a nice part of Tacoma...clean and welcoming...help yourself to tea or coffee in the lobby as you wait. It is set up very nicely. There is an account also at the practice to talk to about costs...[nurse] is in charge or responding to my messages through our portal and she is timely and answers all my random concerns...

What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Erik Mazur at Seattle Reproductive Medicine?
Be prepared that Dr. Mazur will not hold back with all of the details and risks to every surgery and procedure. He made sure we knew of every risk and step that we will need.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Erik Mazur at Seattle Reproductive Medicine?
Dr. Mazur took the time during our very first meeting to get to know us and wanted to know our full fertility story and he we got to be in his office. Then, when we came up with a plan, he made sure we understood and had many diagrams so that everything made sense to us. He walked us through all the steps, made us aware of all possibilities, and makes sure he explains every item possible.
Describe the protocols Erik Mazur used in your cycles at Seattle Reproductive Medicine and their degree of success.
We have an upcoming egg retrieval scheduled so we have not began IVF. Dr. Mazur did recommend I remove my Fallopian tubes since a previous procedure revealed blocked tubes and endometriosis.

She is the best! She is in charge or responding to my messages through our portal and she is timely and answers all my random concerns, especially during COVID-19 concerns.
Describe your experience with Seattle Reproductive Medicine.
It is located in a nice part of Tacoma. You ride an elevator up to the office and it is clean and welcoming once you enter. You can help yourself to tea or coffee in the lobby as you wait. It is set up very nicely. There is an account also at the practice to talk to about costs and to make a plan.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Erik Mazur at Seattle Reproductive Medicine.
They have an account just for SRM-Tacoma’s office so it was free to meet with her to see the cost and make a plan for expenses for IVF and all procedures associated with it.
Describe Erik Mazur's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Seattle Reproductive Medicine.
This was one of the first questions we had with the fear of becoming octo-mom and he recommended, based on our young age, that we only transfer one embryo since the statistics show that IVF with one embryo poses less risks.

Dr Barker struggled with Infertility also. She’s very compassionate, loves what she does and wants to see all of her patients succeed with a healthy pregnancy. Very supportive all the time!...is absolutely amazing. She listens to what I have to say, she’s compassionate and wants us to be able to have a successful pregnancy. Answers all my questions very knowledgeable and up to date with treatments... Trigger shot usually cycle day 10-12...To produce more follicles to get one good egg. I’m 42. Trigger shot to have me ovulate 24-36 hours after taking the shot...When I feel like giving up on this journey I realize what a great team
[Nurses at Seattle Reproductive Medicine are] Compassionate, understanding and very caring... The costs are expensive but well worth it in the end. Somewhat cheaper than other fertility clinics in the area...I am very pleased with everything at SRM. Each person has been there for my husband and I during our fertility treatments. They have squeezed me in because I got a positive OPK and wanted to do an ultrasound. I’ve had numerous questions and concerns. My questions are always answered and my concerns are talked about. Every person employed there wants to see us have a healthy pregnancy. Very supportive after our loss. When I feel like giving up on this journey I realize what a great team of Dr’s and nurses I have. I appreciate each employee and absolutely love SRM

Dr Barker answered every question I had, and I had a lot. She really cared about us as people and our journey. She related to our journey with her own, but only when asked. She knew we had struggled at a previous clinic and did everything to ensure that didn't happen again...She took everything from my prior treatments at another clinic and reviewed them at a regular meeting with colleagues to make the best, most informed plan
The [Seattle Reproductive Medicine] clinic is fantastic. They are well organized, and always on time! The staff are well informed, caring and easy to work with. The facility is wonderful. The only hard part was having to travel to Seattle for major procedures...[Nurse] Lexie was truly amazing! She cared about us and knew our prior struggles. She remained in constant contact and really knew what we needed from her both as our nurse and personally.

We added icsi as that was not used in a prior cycle. We changed dosing on injectables as I appeared to have been previously overstimulated. She took everything from my prior treatments at another clinic and reviewed them at a regular meeting with colleagues to make the best, most informed plan. After the fresh transfer failed, we set up a frozen transfer with low dose medication to regulate my cycle but not go overboard to ensure my body was well prepared.

Dr Barker was very informative and laid everything out very clear for me. There was also everything sent over in writing as well so if it was a little to much to process I had something to refer back too...The first round of letrozole didn’t work so we imminently did a higher dosage which worked but wasn’t successful for pregnancy. The second round we started at the higher dosage, 7.5 mg letrozole I believe, and the injector again. I am currently 8 weeks and 1 day pregnant!

[Dr. Erik Mazur is] Kind, compassionate, well spoken, educated. I am completely comfortable asking questions and don’t ever feel rushed or like an inconvenience. We recently got the news that’s IVF is likely the only thing that will work for us and he was very caring and understanding about how hard that was to hear. I can hear in his voice the determination he has for helping us reach our dream of becoming parents...When we found out I didn’t have endometriosis but I did have a ton of scar tissue/damaged tubes, he said we could do a monitored femara cycle to see how I respond which we are in the middle of now, our next step will be IVF if the femara does not work.

Dr Mazur, was great to work with! He took the time needed to answer all of our questions and made sure we were comfortable with the process...[he] was accommodating and update on how he prescribed medication. I asked if I could avoid needles and he had zero issues with it...we only talked about transferring one [embryo]
[the SRM nurses] communicated in a timely fashion and were happy to answer any questions I had along the way...We paid around $30,000 for treatment...They seem like a large practice but are able to focus on each patient in a kind and caring manner. My experience was great and I highly recommend SRM! I feel fortunate that SRM was able to help grow our family.

Dr Mazur is terrific and if we try another transfer I will fly cross country to see him and the SRM staff. I recommend him to anyone needing fertility treatment. It was a fluke I ended up with him but I’m so happy I did!

We did an IUI with my husband fresh sperm [with Dr. Nichole Barker]. We used letrazole and FSH. It is called a blended cycle. I am 40 years old so we needed to be a bit more aggressive with my treatments. My IUI was a success on our first round!...She is so positive and hopeful. She really cares about her patients...Had a good attitude and listened to my concerns. She did my IUI and was very gentle with an excellent bedside manner. The clinic staff were always nice and answered my questions. The ultrasound tech was also very nice and explained everything to me.
