Attention to Detail

Attention to detail is on a 1 - 10 scale, and is scored based on the rate, and severity, of errors committed by the clinic according to the patients.

For example, a severe error might be failing to inform a patient of critical information, while a small error might be failing to call a patient with results.

CDC Success Rates

This is the most recent data from the CDC. The CDC cautions that it should not be used to compare doctors and clinics.

For more information please see our FAQs.

Where you see a “?” on the chart, a clinic has done fewer than 20 cycles in this category and age range, so the CDC says showing percentages from this small data set would be misleading and unreliable.

Success w/ Doc Too early to know
While I know she [Dr. Kimberly Moon] knows who my husband and I are and preformed 2/3 of my egg retrievals, I also feel we're a number in that i don't feel like a lot of time and effort is being put in to figure out a creative way to mitigate our MFI and allow us to have another biological baby. After our failed IVF cycle in 2019, we were recommended to use 50% donor sperm on next cycle. I feel like there has to be other options out there.
Both [nurses at Shady Grove Fertility] showed compassion and answered my portal questions on the same day and with accuracy...Shared Risk for my age was $22,500.00 Multi-Cycle (2 cycles) was $18,500.00...There are many location options to visit. The Rockville surgery center is well decorated and relaxing and the staff there have always been great. I have been pleased with my retrieval experiences. Weaknesses - Not enough convenient weekend clinic options. Upper MD has Rockville, VA has Fairfax, DC has K Street, but those of us in Southern Maryland don't have anything and have to drive 30-60 minutes for weekend monitoring appointments. The K Street office also doesn't have a free parking option, if not on Sunday's. I was able to monitor at Waldorf for my March 2020 cycle and save on the headache of fighting DC traffic and parking meters, but I don't know if I will be able to do that for future cycles. Another weakness is operating hours -- would be helpful if the clinics opened at 6a for monitoring on weekd
How was your experience with Kimberly Moon at Shady Grove Fertility?
Dr. Moon is well educated and seems to be a numbers person. During our consult for our second IVF cycle with her for a second biological child, she ran our data from our cycle 2 years prior through a spreadsheet they had to predict likelihood for success with unexplained infertility and our age and the numbers were so-so. I pushed and asked why we only ended up with (1) blastocyst when I had 21 retrieved and 17 mature/fertilized. She responded that to her that points to male factor infertility bc the cells live off the maternal protein the initial 3 days and then once getting past 4-cells they live off the male DNA. Since we still had 10+ embryos after our Day-2 update and then only 1 come day 5/6/7, she deducts there are some MFI issues and referred us to the urologist in her practice if we wanted more information. If we had decided not to go, then we never would have learned about the Sperm DNA Fragmentation test that is available. I don't know why this test wasn't recommended after our initial 2-failed IUIs or when his semen analysis in initial work up was so-so. The results came back that 36% of his sperm had DNA fragmentation and success for frag over 30% isn't good. For our IVF cycle in 2019 to attempt for our second baby, the urologist recommended he perform a TESE procedure on my husband to get to the source of the sperm before they get fragmented in ejaculation. Again, we had 21 retrieved and 17 mature/fertilize but only 2 make it to blastocysts (day 5 & 6). They were tested and both came back abnormal. At that point, Dr. Moon and the board reviewed our case and decided we could not continue in the Shared Risk program, unless we used 50% donor sperm and 50% of my husband's. While I get they want to protect their data and pregnancy rates, this felt like a blow that they didn't have faith in our future outcomes. We want a full biological family and we know it is possible since we have our son; we'd think they would come up with ways to help overcome this DNA fragmentation. They moved our deposit for Shared Risk over to a Multi-Cycle program (2 tries) and then I don't know what we'll do if those two don't work..... After that failed cycle, I read up on whatever studies I could find and put my husband on supplements for 3-months and he was trying to work on getting his BMI down since the clinic didn't have any recommendations on what we could do to make a difference. Sadly our March 2020 IVF cycle had about 20 retrieved; 18 mature and fertilized and only 2 made it to blast again and both came back abnormal again. We have a teleconference with Dr. Moon this afternoon to talk about next steps, I guess. Curious to see what she'll say....
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Kimberly Moon at Shady Grove Fertility?
Don't be afraid to do your own research and schedule calls with her to get questions answered.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Kimberly Moon at Shady Grove Fertility?
My response is mixed. While I know she knows who my husband and I are and preformed 2/3 of my egg retrievals, I also feel we're a number in that i don't feel like a lot of time and effort is being put in to figure out a creative way to mitigate our MFI and allow us to have another biological baby. After our failed IVF cycle in 2019, we were recommended to use 50% donor sperm on next cycle. I feel like there has to be other options out there.
Describe the protocols Kimberly Moon used in your cycles at Shady Grove Fertility and their degree of success.
I don't recall the treatment protocols for my (2) IUIs, but for my (3) IVF cycles she had me on an antagonist protocol with 225 Gonal-F and (3) vials of Menopur. I am slower to respond, esp. my right side, so my 3rd cycle I was started on these higher doses and stayed pretty steady throughout cycle. Only (1) IVF cycle in 2017 was successful with producing (1) blastocyst (our son). Have a tele-consult with our Dr. this afternoon and am curious if there is another protocol we can try for our final cycle.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at Shady Grove Fertility.
Lana and Caroline were the two I remember communicating the most with during my two cycles the last 6-months. Both showed compassion and answered my portal questions on the same day and with accuracy. In 2017 I did have (1) assigned nurse, Kate Manders, and I didn't 100% care for her. She was nice enough but seemed pretty cold/robotic. She is now the K Street Patient Care Coordinator or Office Manager or something to that effect.
Describe your experience with Shady Grove Fertility.
Strengths - Monitoring appointments are quick and efficient. There are many location options to visit. Another weakness is operating hours -- would be helpful if the clinics opened at 6a for monitoring on weekdays and stay with 7a on weekends so patients can still get to work at a semi-decent hour.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Kimberly Moon at Shady Grove Fertility.
Shared Risk for my age was $22,500.00 Multi-Cycle (2 cycles) was $18,500.00 PGT-A Testing - $5,000.00 TESE - $5,000.00 Sperm Analysis - $50.00 Sperm DNA Fragmentation Test - $250.00
Describe Kimberly Moon's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Shady Grove Fertility.

I love that I see him [Dr. Singer] for every visit, he is always very positive, unless there is a reason not to be, he is kind in bad news, but also very clear. He is always very matter of fact in his advice and treatment plans and is available and responsive. ... His treatment plan is based on science and facts and tailored to our needs and our results from precious cycles with other doctors. He has thoroughly reviewed all of our history and either has a great memory or refreshes himself on our case prior to all visits/calls to discuss.
The NYC office is brand new, state of the art, and beautiful. For those who do not live in the city, like myself, parking is expensive and generally in a garage because of the area of the city it is located in. The office staff is friendly and very helpful. ... Vivian is located in the Rockville office so I only speak to her over the phone and via email or through the portal. She is very responsive, compassionate and thorough. My donor coordinator is Rachel Light, who is also very responsive and helpful. When I physically am in the office I cannot remember the name of the nurse, but I have seen her every time. She is nice and thorough but as I see Dr. Singer on every visit I have formed a much stronger relationship with hin.

What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Tomer Singer at Shady Grove Fertility?
Be ready to feel like part of the family, he is a wonderful man.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Tomer Singer at Shady Grove Fertility?
Dr. Singer speaks to you like a person and an intelligent human being, he started off with us very basic, but as we have been going through this for many years now he now speaks to us on our level of understanding. You can tell that he truly cares and can empathize with our challenges and is confident he can assist us. His treatment plan is based on science and facts and tailored to our needs and our results from precious cycles with other doctors. He has thoroughly reviewed all of our history and either has a great memory or refreshes himself on our case prior to all visits/calls to discuss.
Describe the protocols Tomer Singer used in your cycles at Shady Grove Fertility and their degree of success.
We have yet to start a treatment cycle with Dr. Singer, unfortunately as we need donor eggs and all donor cycles are on hold due to COVID-19 we are in a holding pattern. We are reviewing their frozen egg bank to see if there is a suitable donor there. He has us re-do all the testing from previous clinics with much additional to determine what protocols we should use including and ERA to determine exactly how much progesterone is needed for a transfer. None of the other doctors even suggested this test, we were planning to ask our last clinic. When discussing previous treatment protocols he is very clear about what is will and won't do based on science and his overall experience, other clinics have been very open to our suggestions which made us feel like we had to do the research and be the doctor.
Describe your experience with your nurse at Shady Grove Fertility. (Assigned nurse: Vivian Oseni - donor coordinating nurse)
Describe your experience with Shady Grove Fertility.
The NYC office is brand new, state of the art, and beautiful. For those who do not live in the city, like myself, parking is expensive and generally in a garage because of the area of the city it is located in. The office staff is friendly and very helpful.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Tomer Singer at Shady Grove Fertility.
We have been accepted into the Shared Risk Program with Shady Grove, but as we have not yet selected a donor we have not had to pay yet. If we do a 1:1 donor with the PGT-A testing the cost will be $77k excluding medications and that will cover up to 6 donors (and all the eggs that come from them) and all transfers until we take home a live child. If we don't or choose to give up then we get the $77k back. If we do the 2:1 then it would be $53k with the same as above except we would be splitting the eggs with another couple.
Describe Tomer Singer's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Shady Grove Fertility.
He has advised us that he would be most comfortable with eSET, but open to discussing the transfer of 2 embryos. Mostly because we would like to have two children. However, he is not strongly in favor due to the risk of the embryo and myself if a twin pregnancy does occur.

Dr. Sasson is very compassionate, yet direct and to the point. He was clear on my predicted outcome and shared our sense of urgency...has been wonderfully compassionate, thorough and insightful so far. We absolutely trust his clinical judgment and reccomendations. We will be moving into IVF as soon as we are allowed by the state (treatments are currently paused due to COVID19)...did tell us that the chances of pregnancy are the same whether you implant one embryo or two. Therefore, I believe we will just transfer one.
Nikki [nurse at Shady Grove Fertility - Chesterbrook] is fabulous and always replied to emails within an insanely fast time frame. She was clear, specific and always had the answers to our questions...The front desk staff could definitely be more friendly and welcoming. I also think that the clinic could use a facelift, especially given the amount of money we have spent there - you'd think they could update things a bit!...I have PCOS and am completely anovulatory. Unfortunately, my condition cannot be managed by exercise and diet. We completed 3 cycles using letrazole which were unsuccessful. Unfortunately, the fourth cycle I did not respond to either letrazole or clomid, so we moved onto Gonal F injections. Sadly, we were not successful on that cycle either. Since the cycles have become increasingly difficult for me emotionally, we decided that our best bet is to move forward with IVF.

Success w/ Doc Too early to know
His [Dr. Levens] knowledge and competence is without question. ... Because he was not available without an appointment, it was difficult to speak with him about questions or concerns. This was frustrating because it was my first cycle. He is thorough and compassionate if the news is not as hoped as was our case. He has adjusted treatment based on our specific results and explained the next steps.
The clinic [Shady Grove Fertility] overall is doing a great job however we noticed a lack of consistency in result reporting in dealing with the nursing staff. My nurse would call and not give the details of my monitoring appt or test results unless I asked specifics while others nurses would give me the results without prompting. After talking with my doc the day I was scheduled to trigger another nurse was trying to get us to buy more meds! She had not looked at my chart really and we could tell she had no idea but it did cause some confusion that day.
How was your experience with Eric Levens at Shady Grove Fertility?
His knowledge and competence is without question. As a doctor myself, I had to remind him that I wanted to know every detail without the sugarcoating or layman's optimism. Because he was not available without an appointment, it was difficult to speak with him about questions or concerns. This was frustrating because it was my first cycle. He is thorough and compassionate if the news is not as hoped as was our case. He has adjusted treatment based on our specific results and explained the next steps.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Eric Levens at Shady Grove Fertility?
Patients have all different backgrounds and those who want to know more detail should be treated accordingly within reason.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Eric Levens at Shady Grove Fertility?
It was at times difficult to speak directly with him, however, I understand that he is extremely busy as the medical director of the clinic. When I did leave questions, he definitely would call back with an answer within a day or two. He was well versed with my record when we did talk.
Describe the protocols Eric Levens used in your cycles at Shady Grove Fertility and their degree of success.
Based on AMH, FSH, it was determined that my ovarian reserve was more than adequate and similar to someone approximately 5-6 yrs younger however quality was still unknown. The protocol was about 15 days and began with gonal f 150iu and 75iu of menopur. The menopur was increased up to 225 in the last week. I took doses of Cetrotide and used Leuprolide as the trigger. 17 eggs were retrieved, 13 of which were mature. 9 embryos were fertilized with 2 making it to day 6. Embryo testing of the 2 showed chromosome 21 trisomy and chromosome 21 monosomy. My husband and I were sent out for karyotype testing and awaiting results.
Describe your experience with your nurse at Shady Grove Fertility. (Assigned nurse: Courtney Schmidt)
She was very responsive and willing to go the extra mile if needed. She was always accessible which was a plus considering that I could not always reach my doc. She would pass along any message or question so that I could get an answer quickly.

Describe the costs associated with your care under Eric Levens at Shady Grove Fertility.
We did a multicycle package with a military discount and paid additional 5k for blast genetic testing. Altogether the services were 18k without medication.
Describe Eric Levens's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Shady Grove Fertility.
Given our age and no children, we will be transferring more than 1 blast if available.

Dr. Silva is very verbose. He had a lot to say and is also extremely busy...He was rather blunt, but did not lack compassion...I am over 40 w decent numbers...We did one IUI and 2 rounds of IVF w our own eggs...My numbers were decent for my age so the same medications were used for our second round of IVF, just w slightly higher doses. We did ICSI and also did PGT testing...
[nurse of Shady Grove Fertility] she will stay on the phone as long as you want and she will always call you back or email you even when she’s super busy...We spent $32,000 on two rounds of IVF w ICSI, medications, and PGT testing. The cost was due to me being over 41...The Nurse Practitioner who does all your ultrasounds was great as well. This clinic is quite thorough and we felt that as patients.
How was your experience with Celso Silva at Shady Grove Fertility?
Dr Silva is very verbose. He had a lot to say and is also extremely busy and getting an appt specifically w him was not easy even after we were patients. He was rather blunt, but did not lack compassion. He was not my perfect doctor, but I would and will continue to go to him bc I find him very knowledgeable and feel, whether or not it’s true, that he cares about me and my husband.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Celso Silva at Shady Grove Fertility?
Be ready w a list of questions. Right down the answers bc he talks very fast. He does not sugar coat things, but remains optimistic at the same time.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Celso Silva at Shady Grove Fertility?
Shady Grove is clearly a well-run machine. They have a number of offices in the US. And they do a large volume of patients. But we still felt like our case was being specifically looked at, as opposed to just another infertility case.
Describe the protocols Celso Silva used in your cycles at Shady Grove Fertility and their degree of success.
I am over 40 w decent numbers. My husband does not have a low sperm count, but he doesn’t have great sperm. We did one IUI and 2 rounds of IVF w our own eggs. My numbers were decent for my age so the same medications were used for our second round of IVF, just w slightly higher doses. We did ICSI and also did PGT testing. I would not suggest doing the PGT testing. There are too many studies out there that show it is t a perfect science and that perfectly good embryos are actually being discarded bc of the testing. Shady Grove will not transfer any abnormal or mosaic embryos. I understand that not transferring them can save the patient from some heart ache, but after much thought, I think the heart ache is better than the results of the PGT. Especially when it results in zero embryos to transfer, as it did w us.
Describe your experience with your nurse at Shady Grove Fertility. (Assigned nurse: Beth)
Our nurse, Beth, was great. She does talk a lot, so be prepared. But she will stay on the phone as long as you want and she will always call you back or email you even when she’s super busy. We have zero complaints about the staff.
Describe your experience with Shady Grove Fertility.
The financial person was a joke. She’s just a glorified credit card runner. The office manager was amazing. The Nurse Practitioner who does all your ultrasounds was great as well. This clinic is quite thorough and we felt that as patients.

[Dr. Nair is] Warm, honest, compassionate...She truly cares about her patients, and can evaluate each patient’s specific needs to determine the best course of action. She tells the truth, shares empathy, and always strives for the best outcomes for each patient...was willing to be as aggressive and patient as I was willing to be. It took a maximum amount of ovarian stimulation each cycle, and I took 4-6 days longer than average to get to the right blood level numbers (showing optimal ovarian stimulation) each cycle. Other doctors would have likely cancelled my first cycle when it took so long. Dr Nair did discuss this possibility and ramifications with me, but did let me keep trying a bit longer. Turns out, I’m just a slow goer; we successfully harvested 6 eggs the first round, which I was ecstatic about given my poor indicators. She helped me maximize each of 3 cycles, through medication decisions, and was my cheerleader throughout the process. We harvested 18 eggs over 3 cycles (over 2ish years) and froze 17 mature eggs. A few years later, my new husband and I are starting the process to thaw and fertilize and hopefully transfer an embryo! As with the freezing procedures, I trust and valie her recommendations 100%.
My medication costs were at the highest end of the spectrum, due to my situation. Dr Nair’s team [at Shady Grove Fertility] gave me tips on how to find the most cost effective pharmacies to fill them...many positives include efficiency, a proven track record, multiple locations and ease of access, and great historical data on outcomes. Despite this “Big Center” status (for lack of a better term), I have never felt like “just” a number or “just” a source of revenue.
How was your experience with Anitha Nair at Shady Grove Fertility?
Warm, honest, compassionate, and expert. I fully trust her advice and recommendations and feel like I could not have a better doctor for this journey. She truly cares about her patients, and can evaluate each patient’s specific needs to determine the best course of action. She tells the truth, shares empathy, and always strives for the best outcomes for each patient. She is a Godsend.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Anitha Nair at Shady Grove Fertility?
This is the doctor that you want to work with! She’s on your side and in your fight as much as you are.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Anitha Nair at Shady Grove Fertility?
Dr Nair is exactly what you want in a fertility doctor: open, honest, transparent, warm. She has an excellent bedside manner, and gently shares all data (good & not so good) so that you can make the best decisions. She also inquires and cares about your emotional health, not just your physical health. I cannot recommend her enough.
Describe the protocols Anitha Nair used in your cycles at Shady Grove Fertility and their degree of success.
During early processes for elective egg freezing at age 37, it became apparent that I had diminished ovarian reserves and might not have the outcome I wanted. Dr Nair delivered these facts gently and compassionately, and was willing to be as aggressive and patient as I was willing to be. My medication costs were at the highest end of the spectrum, due to my situation. Dr Nair’s team gave me tips on how to find the most cost effective pharmacies to fill them. The per cycle cost was hefty, yes, but I truly felt that I got what I paid for, from start to finish.

[Dr. Sunita Kulshrestha] has been very informative, comforting, and makes time for virtual consults or to answer questions over the phone during the COVDI-19 pandemic. She, and her team, have been amazing during this holding pattern in our lives and we are thankful for them...Everyone's treatment is specifically tailored to their needs so that the best outcome can be reached. There is no "one size fits all" approach with Dr. Kulshrestha.
All of the nursing staff at Shady Grove Fertility of Waldorf have been amazing. They are very knowledgeable if we have questions or concerns, and they're very responsive to phone calls and messages in the patient portal. Our care coordinator has been very clear about financial responsibilities associated with treatment and fee schedules... The clinic is very intimate, so it never feels like you're a number. We're usually the only couple being seen during our appointment time.
How was your experience with Sunita Kulshrestha (retired) at Shady Grove Fertility?
Dr. Kulshrestha is very warm, approachable, and friendly. She listens to patient concerns and is great at drawing diagrams to really drive information home. She has made this experience at lot less daunting.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Sunita Kulshrestha (retired) at Shady Grove Fertility?
Be patient. Everyone's treatment is specifically tailored to their needs so that the best outcome can be reached. There is no "one size fits all" approach with Dr. Kulshrestha.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Sunita Kulshrestha (retired) at Shady Grove Fertility?
Dr. Kulshrestha has always been very transparent and effervescent, from our very first consultation. I initially saw her in 2018 for an evaluation because of difficulty getting pregnant after 1 year of trying. A month after the initial consultation, I fell pregnant naturally. Unfortunately the pregnancy ended in miscarriage at 8 weeks. After rebounding from our loss, we decided to give fertility treatments another try in 2019. Our IUI was unsuccessful but it helped us better understand some of the barriers that were causing fertility issues. As we were beginning baseline reading for IVF in 2020 Dr. Kulshrestha found a cyst on my right ovary, fast forward to my MRI results-- I was diagnosed with Stage 4 Endmetriosis due to a 6.5 mm endometrioma on my right ovary. Now that I know for sure that I have severe endometriosis, I understand that IVF is our only option to start our family. Dr. Kulshrestha has been very informative, comforting, and makes time for virtual consults or to answer questions over the phone during the COVDI-19 pandemic. She, and her team, have been amazing during this holding pattern in our lives and we are thankful for them.
Describe the protocols Sunita Kulshrestha (retired) used in your cycles at Shady Grove Fertility and their degree of success.
Femara 2.5 mg, increased to 5 mg daily to help with follicle stimulation. Ovidrel (trigger shot) and IUI 48 hours later. Progesterone suppositories to maintain uterine lining. 2 week wait for blood draw pregnancy test. We attempted timed cycles prior to IUI #1.

Dr. Osborn is soft spoken but very friendly and willing to answer any questions you have. She knows who you are and shares results with you personally as needed...She is much more willing to share and elaborate if you ask questions. Most of my monitoring was done at Sibley so it's the same nurses and staff that you encounter every time. SGF is very technical and wants the best outcome for you. How was your experience with Barbara Osborn at Shady Grove Fertility?
I believe that all the doctors at SGF are required to follow strict guidelines so there is not a lot of experimentation that I've seen so far but I have a fairly straightforward case. Dr. Osborn has always been friendly, considerate and willing to answer any questions that I've had. She has been the one to share good and bad news with me and will always contact me if I've requested to hear from her. She is realistic and clear with what she expects from treatment.

How was your experience with Eric Widra at Shady Grove Fertility?
Dr. Widra was always pleasant, kind and compassionate, and every appointment I had with him felt judgement-free. I felt like Dr. Widra cared about my well-being and truly wanted to help me reach my fertility goals. I communicate in a very matter-of-fact fashion, and Dr. Widra was able to take my fertility vision and put it into a medical protocol that made sense to me and was appropriate for me.

I got linked up with a support group for other single mothers by choice, which has been super helpful and supportive. I think the online portal can be a bit frustrating to navigate. It's nice to talk to a human every now and again, so that is something that can be a bit of a pain, but not a big deal. Overall, I am happy with my clinic. I went to another clinic before this one, and the doctor I saw had unpleasant bedside manner, and I felt like I was being judged by her. So I was very pleased to find my current clinic, which basically had open arms towards me and my fertility goals.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Eric Widra at Shady Grove Fertility.
My insurance covered a lot of it, so fortunately I haven't paid a whole lot. I've only gotten one IUI done thus far though, so my costs will increase as I have more fertility treatments.

Dr. Nair was direct and honest. Initial consult was very informative and she was incredibly positive at the idea of being a single mother by choice. She saw me in person when I started treatment and hormone levels were very elevated, she explained everything and I understood my process clearly. She called to deliver the final news as well for my successful treatment...She answered all of my questions, she was open about her availability and that she was in two different locations so I might need to travel to see her. She saw me in person as I started treatment when my hormone levels were elevated early. She called once my treatment was complete to deliver all of my final news and was very excited for our results.
Twice I wasn't informed of changes in my protocol [at Shady Grove Fertility] and needed to call the emergency line to know my dosage for that evening...Loved that it [monitoring] was very early morning. Basically walk in even though there are appointments, dependent upon how many people were there. Staff was friendly and moved as quickly as they could...The appointment system is pointless for walk in blood work and ultrasound, it didn't matter if you had an appointment or not, it was only dependent on how many people were there. Also, I needed to call the clinic at least twice for my nightly dosage because I didn't receive a note through the portal or a call. The emergency hotline is good and I used it a few times.

Started with standard Gonal 112 and started Menopur 1 vial on day 4 perhaps? Needed to dial back the gonal down to eventually I think 25-50. I triggered a day earlier than anticipated. We didn't want to hormones to outpace the growth of the follicles.
Describe your experience with your nurse at Shady Grove Fertility. (Assigned nurse: Jenn)
Jenn was great and communicated through the patient portal. I asked a lot of questions and she was always able to get back to me within a day or point me in the right direction for who would have my answers. She was friendly and professional.

Initial lab work had the results sent to the clinic but didn't hear anything back to confirm is they were good or not. Wrote nurse in portal and said everything looks good, would have told you if it was otherwise. I thought regardless, I shouldn't have to ask if results were good. Twice I wasn't informed of changes in my protocol and needed to call the emergency line to know my dosage for that evening.

Dr Moon was great for the initial consult and we came to her from a recommendation. We never saw her again. She was thorough and explained things fine, but she felt more like a salesperson given that she never performed any medical operations...She allowed multiple embryo transfer but advised us against it...The egg retrieval was performed by a different doctor. We mostly dealt with inept clinical and administrative staff that would not read our charts prior to speaking with us.

They asked our egg donor right before she was going under for the egg retrieval how many eggs she was keeping FOR HERSELF. She advised that she was DONATING them, but they asked her multiple times if she was keeping any for herself. We used a known egg donor, and we had to explain the situation thousands of times to everyone we spoke to. They also treated the partner (me) who was not donating sperm as not involved in the process at all, despite the fact that I coordinated all of the care.

The clinic is terrible. It is a premium service where they treat you like garbage. They are disorganized. We got passed around to multiple coordinators and they forgot to tell us. The process is stressful and expensive and Shady Grove makes you feel like a dollar sign without providing any sort of premium service at all. The facilities are nice and we had a good medical outcome, but the process to get there was miserable.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Kimberly Moon at Shady Grove Fertility.
$19k for egg retrieval $8k for drugs $1,500 for required social work $1,000 for genetic counseling $3,000 for miscellaneous fees
Describe Kimberly Moon's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Shady Grove Fertility.
She allowed multiple embryo transfer but advised us against it.
How competent was Shady Grove Fertility at LGBTQ care?
They were OK with LGBTQ. We used a known egg donor who was related to me and used my (male) partner's sperm. I was often not included in things because I had no medical interaction, but I coordinated all of the care. They never bother to read your chart, so you have to explain every time you speak with someone what the situation is, which can be uncomfortable. They never were discriminatory, but they were far from thoughtful.

They never return your call, they do not read your chart, they switched our clinical coordinator without telling us, they failed to keep us updated on the results of the biopsy, and they asked our egg donor if she wanted to keep eggs for herself. They also would not show our egg donor how to do the shots, would not even help her with the first round. They also made us order a full batch of drugs and then only used 1/4 of them, so we had to pay $8k and only used $2k worth of drugs.

I have a history of sexual trauma and Dr. Devine was very sensitive to that history. She did everything she could to minimize triggers and adapted procedures in order to make me feel comfortable...Dr. Devine was very warm, but also straightforward. She actually listened to how my past experiences had shaped my anxiety about treatment and made adjustments to accommodate me. To the extent that was possible, she had her staff schedule my appointments for when she was on the monitoring floor and she came to my monitoring ultrasound appointments.
This location [Shady Grove Fertility] is in the middle of downtown DC and parking was always a challenge. It was difficult to find metered street parking, and garage parking was $22 per day, which could add up when you have to go in for daily monitoring. The waiting room is very busy for the morning monitoring appointments and sometimes the wait was up to 45-50 minutes past the appointment time.

Describe the protocols Kate Devine used in your cycles at Shady Grove Fertility and their degree of success.
My diagnosis was an anovulation due to PCOS. Dr. Device prescribed 7.5 mg letrozole taken on days 3-7 with follicle monitoring starting on day 11. When the follicle was mature, she had me do an Ovidrel trigger shot followed by timed intercourse, and then progesterone suppositories for the remainder of the cycle. She was able to successfully induce ovulation three times and I got pregnant on the third month.
Describe your experience with your nurse at Shady Grove Fertility. (Assigned nurse: Vanessa)
Dr. Devine's nursing team were very responsive to all of my messages. I didn't interact with them much in person, but they were friendly over the phone. The medical assistants that I encountered every morning for monitoring appointments left much to be desired. They never read my chart, which specifically said that I was only to have transabdominal ultrasounds, and they routinely argued with me when I told them I did not need to get undressed for the ultrasound. They were often rude when I declined to get undressed, and multiple times I could hear them standing on the other side of the door telling the doctor/ultrasound tech that I "wasn't cooperating." My history of sexual trauma was written as a warning in my chart as was a very clear "TAUS only" warning.

[Dr. Schumacher's] excitement over 2 embryos that resulted was also inappropriate. Only when those embryos were found to be abnormal did she approach the situation with the appropriate gravity...she apologized for not following her standard protocol in advising me to select a donor that had already been used by Shady Grove and that they knew would have good results. She did not know why she had failed to advise me since she said that was her standard protocol with patients.
I never really understood who to contact for what [at Shady Grove Fertility] and at what point the doctor came back into the picture...Working with her [Dr. Schumacher] team felt very impersonal and confusing...being handed off from one person to another with no crossover, essential checks and balances got lost. Ultimately, I lost 30K because of the lack of accurate information and the lack of attention to the process as a whole.
How was your experience with Brianna Schumacher at Shady Grove Fertility?
In our initial visit, she made the complex topic of infertility and IVF very clear. She gave me her time, details, and sketched out diagrams, more than the two other fertility centers I had been to previously. With Brianna, I felt I would get the time and care you would expect given the nature and price tag of the treatment. She described how easy it would be to get plenty of healthy embryos with a Shady Grove egg donor. They had excellent and thoroughly evaluated egg donors. Just pick one of their fantastic egg donors and a sperm donor and voila! She was so confident about how easy it was to make healthy embryos with Shady Grove’s expertise and one of their egg donors. I saw very little of Dr. Schumacher after that appointment. I received a long list of items to complete and a few folks that were supposed to walk me through the process. It took me 6 months. I never really understood who to contact for what and at what point the doctor came back into the picture. One of the times I did see her, she said to work with her team, and they would handle everything and make sure I got what I needed. Working with her team felt very impersonal and confusing, and as it turned out, I was never getting all of the information I needed. And being handed off from one person to another with no crossover, essential checks and balances got lost. Ultimately, I lost 30K because of the lack of accurate information and the lack of attention to the process as a whole. Here are the details – I went with a 1:1 egg donor cycle with a 25-year-old Shady Grove egg donor. I had insurance for 2 transfers, and I planned on using it. All in all, it cost ~30K. And Shady Grove received about another 30K from my insurance company. The result: Instead of 18+ eggs retrieved, there were only 9. Only 4 were mature eggs. Those eggs resulted in 2 embryos with chromosomal abnormalities. 1 with Downs syndrome and 1 with Klinefelter’s (XXY). I was told to expect 8-12 mature eggs from a 1:1 pairing. This donor was originally a 1:3 that I asked to be converted to a 1:1. From that, they would expect 4-6 healthy embryos, worst case. Ideally, I could expect 6 or more. Dr. Schumacher was overly excited about the embryo with an AA rating (prior to PGS testing) and wanted me to be excited. She did not tell me the rating of the other one, even though I asked. I was not ready to get excited because most people who can do a simple internet search know that the rating does not correlate to the chromosomal health of the embryo. She should have counseled me to be cautiously optimistic until the results came back. Even in the beginning, she was advising me that I didn't have to do PGT-A testing because there normally weren't any problems with a 25-year old's eggs. I felt that Dr. Schumacher's advice, process, and attitude were reckless. She neglected our discussion that I am 47 years old, maybe had a chance left, and did not have any more money to try again. Had she considered that she would have been involved with the selection of a donor and advised me appropriately. I was never told that a 1:1 pairing “could go wrong.” They sold it to me as a guarantee. Hence, why I chose to spend the 20K for a 1:1. Nor was I told by the financial department or Dr. Schumacher that there is a guarantee with a 1:3 pairing of 4 mature eggs or your money back. When I asked, "So you can pay 10K and end up with nothing?" Heather’s response was, "Yes." This is incorrect. If you don't receive 4 mature eggs, you get your money back. If anything, the financial department’s job is to make sure you completely understand all the financial aspects of the contract. Prior to payment to secure my donor, I had several back and forth emails with Finance about how their documentation was confusing. There is no guarantee with a 1:1 pairing. Shady Grove just said - sorry we were wrong about this donor. It happens sometimes. And they accept no responsibility for requiring you to select from the egg donor list that they have hand-picked and evaluated. Shady Grove told me these details only after things went wrong. It took 2 weeks for Dr. Schumacher to call me with the PGT-A results. For 2 additional weeks, I did what she told me to do – be excited that there were 2 healthy embryos. She sent me an email with multiple exclamation points about how I should go out and enjoy the sun. “I just checked on your embryos and it looks like we have one BEAUTIFUL embryo frozen for you today (AA - the highest grade!). We have 2 more that we are still going to watch for 2 more days. :) Let me know if you have any questions!!!! Otherwise, have a great day! Enjoy this sunshine and warm weather - it's sooo nice out!” Finally, we connected so she could confirm that Shady Grove had set fire to my 30K. There were no healthy embryos. The AA rating embryo was found to have Down’s Syndrome. They have offered that if I pay an additional $38K, we can start over, and Dr. Schumacher will be personally involved this time. To be fair, this does include transfers. However, it means I won’t be able to use my insurance. She will review the donors with me to ensure that we are successful. We will only select from donors that have been used before and have produced healthy results. When I asked Dr. Schumacher why she didn’t review this with me the first time (I am 47, and this was the only 30K I had for treatment. I only had one opportunity with an egg donor.) She said, “ummm to be honest I normally do have this conversation with people .. it’s one of the first conversations we have when it comes down to selecting a donor, um I usually review all the donors and I have patients send them to me so I can go through them specifically, uumm I don’t remember specifically um the conversation that we had and it sounds like we didn’t have that conversation and so I apologize if it wasn’t um you know I mean usually we do have this conversation usually I’m very involved in the donor selection process, I’m not sure what happened um in your case.” In order to come up with that money, it will have to come out of my 401K. Take-Aways • DO NOT use an egg donor that is new and untested. With Shady Grove or any fertility center. Or you could end up in my situation. Choose an egg donor that has already been tested and ask what the results were. Know as many details as possible about the health of the eggs and embryos and living children from that donor. Let someone else play the lottery with a new donor. • Confirm with Finance and your doctor, your understanding of the contract and do it in writing. Make sure they reply back and confirm. • You are just a number with any center that you go to. It's up to you to make sure your doctor and your center are following an appropriate standard of care. • The profit margins on fertility treatment are significant. Do not accept a low standard of care. • Shady Grove is not any different than RMA or Main Line (Tangent – The most wonderful nurses in Dr. Gocial’s office.)
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Brianna Schumacher at Shady Grove Fertility?
She will make you feel comfortable and explain everything in a way you will understand. She is very engaging and wants to get you excited about how amazing their treatment is and how easy everything will be in their hands. Unfortunately, to the detriment of the truth and reality. Then she will disappear.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Brianna Schumacher at Shady Grove Fertility?
Number: Credit card number. Bank number. Human: At times, but often with inappropriate excitement. It made everything worse. I had to ask Brianna to stop calling me until she had news of the PGS results. Dr. Schumacher reached out personally via phone call/email only at the end of the donor egg retrieval process with inappropriate excitement over what we both knew was a poor result. 9 eggs retrieved, only 3-4 were mature. I felt she was trying to gloss over that it was a very poor result, thinking I might not know it was that bad. This is a poor result for a 25 year old egg donor. Her excitement over 2 embryos that resulted was also inappropriate. Only when those embryos were found to be abnormal did she approach the situation with the appropriate gravity. At that point, she apologized for not following her standard protocol in advising me to select a donor that had already been used by Shady Grove and that they knew would have good results. She did not know why she had failed to advise me since she said that was her standard protocol with patients.
Describe the protocols Brianna Schumacher used in your cycles at Shady Grove Fertility and their degree of success.
We didn’t get that far since the 1:1 egg donor match from Shady Grove was unable to produce any healthy eggs or embryos.
Describe your experience with your nurse at Shady Grove Fertility. (Assigned nurse: Abbie)
Everyone was nice. But also gave incomplete information. And short email responses. I always felt that they had too many patients on their plate. I never had a clear understanding of what each person was responsible for and who to contact about what.
Describe your experience with Shady Grove Fertility.
I had a very poor experience with Shady Grove. It started well but did not end well. It’s an assembly line, and they have more people on it than they can properly serve. They are so used to success that they are not giving their patients accurate or complete information or making sure that every step of the process is reviewed, discussed, and properly handled. I was very disappointed in the standard of care – they are supposed to be the best. Everyone was very flip about the whole process as well. Very little information … just give me your money. They are on it about collecting money, less so regarding delivering the service, you're paying for. When I asked about what I should purchase regarding a sperm donor, the response was, "Just one, the cheapest!" Now that the egg donor cycle failed, I have to start all over again, selecting a sperm donor. The one I found after weeks of researching was no longer available. When I received the devastating results of the PGT-A testing, the email was signed, "Have a great day!" Maybe now that COVID has slowed things down for everyone, Shady Grove will have the number of patients that they can adequately handle and deliver the standard of care that they are known for. It's easy for fertility centers to get caught up in the profit margins available to them and move cattle through. But as patients, we want to stay away from these.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Brianna Schumacher at Shady Grove Fertility.
21K for a 1:1 egg donor retrieval, 5K PGTA testing. 5K for storage, surgery and sperm.
Describe Brianna Schumacher's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Shady Grove Fertility.
Dr. Schumacher will not transfer more than 1 embryo at a time to my knowledge. Regardless of patient request.

Dr. Silva is a great communicator. He fully has your best interest at heart...will go over all your medical records and test right there in front of you and explain everything...discusses the options and reasons for each option. Ultimately he agrees with your decision though on how aggressive you want to be with treatment. My favorite thing is how he listens to me and fully addresses each concern I have.
I do like how [Shady Grove Fertility] has a "team approach" to handling patients. I have my own nurse who is great, forgetful at times but super nice. The financial advisor Teressa I do not care for at all...pretty pricey. Obviously all fertility treatments are pricey, but comparing to other clinics they are higher...nursing staff is all wonderful though.

I had previously done 2 50mg clomid cycles with my OBGYN, which did not make me ovulate. I did achieve spontaneous pregnancy upon my initial consulation with USF IVF. However, I miscarried that baby. USF IVF then merged with shady grove. So coming to Dr. Silva he understood that I wanted to start IUI since I do not ovulate regularly on my own at all. First IUI he tried 5 mg of letrozole since clomid did not make me ovulate previously. 1 follicle matured and I had my IUI day 19. negative pregnancy test. For the 2nd IUI we increased letrozole to 7.5mg and I had 1 follcile mature again but had my IUI day 12! Negative pregnancy test. Now I am choosing to move onto IVF which Dr Silva agrees with or even agrees with me doing 2 more IUI's.

Dr. Doyle is very friendly and jovial and understands tbis field very well. He is not great an explanations with granularity, and kind of waves questions away. He is obviously bright, but the lack of explanations makes the interactio feel like he is dismissive of concerns and can't wait to get to the rest of his calendar...If you have a lot of questions or disagree, he's not going to adjust to you.
SGF is huge and has lots of resources. However there is no coordination to get information to the patient. You have to do it yourself. There is lots on their website - peruse it closely and ask questions. No one will tell you what you need to know, you need to get all the info for yourself. Everyone who works there seems fine but they won't advocate for you if you don't!!! It's on you.
How was your experience with Joseph Doyle at Shady Grove Fertility?
I have not had a chance to do the prescribed treatments with Dr. Doyle yet, but it seemed clear we will not have a lot of opportunities for further interaction unless somethingdoes not go right. He is young, smart and friendly. I definitely got the feeling that he knows his stuff. He diagnosed an issue for me that others didn't. On the other hand, he was obviously touchy when pressed for additional details and further information about why a certain treatment was indicated or not. He joked about it but clearly did not like it. So if you like what he proposed, and trust him - go with it. If you have a lot of questions or disagree, he's not going to adjust to you.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Joseph Doyle at Shady Grove Fertility?
Advocste for yourself with SGF and your nurses.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Joseph Doyle at Shady Grove Fertility?

Describe the protocols Joseph Doyle used in your cycles at Shady Grove Fertility and their degree of success.
Did not start treatment yet. Will begin with IUIs before progressing to IVF.
Describe your experience with your nurse at Shady Grove Fertility. (Assigned nurse: Alexa)
Nurses seem to switch off. They ate very responsive over the patient portal. No one provided any advice about how to get medication in the cheapest way or the timeliest way. I had tonfigure it out for myself and find the cheapest pharmacies and request that it gets called in.

Describe the specific things that went wrong at Shady Grove Fertility.
Information was lost when my obgyn faxed it over. I had to collect it myself and bring it over. I was not informed that my cycle would be cancelled because of COVID 19, I had to find out for myself when I called to schedule. Billing people did not know the CPT code for a test that my insurance covered and claimed it had to be paid out of pocket. I had to get the CPT code from my insurance company and provide it to billers.

Dr. Doyle is very soft-spoken and gentle...explains things clearly and directly...warm and compassionate, and he set my mind at ease going into my treatment. I felt confident that he would be able to handle anything that arose during my treatment...protocol was decided on based on my age, and previous treatments I had done at other fertility clinics. 20 eggs were retreived...never once doubted that my embryos were in the best hands!
Dr. Doyle and his staff at Shady Grove - Rockville, MD are the perfect blend of compassion and professionalism. Although they run a huge operation, I always felt taken care of and had my questions and concerns addressed right away...up-to-date on all of the latest and best research, procedures, treatments, labs, facilities...willing to work with me in offering options related to billing, payment, etc.
How was your experience with Joseph Doyle at Shady Grove Fertility?
Dr. Doyle is very soft-spoken and gentle. He explains things clearly and directly, and is clearly extremely knowledgeable, but he does so in a way that lay people can understand what he is saying. He is very warm and compassionate, and he set my mind at ease going into my treatment. I felt confident that he would be able to handle anything that arose during my treatment.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Joseph Doyle at Shady Grove Fertility?
Fertility treatment is not something you should attempt to do halfway... At the beginning of my treatment, I was focused on finding a doctor or clinic that was the cheapest or quickest. I wish that I would have reached out to Shady Grove and Dr. Doyle sooner, because I could have spared myself a lot of money, pain, and time.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Joseph Doyle at Shady Grove Fertility?

Describe the protocols Joseph Doyle used in your cycles at Shady Grove Fertility and their degree of success.
I did a standard IVF retrieval protocol, using follistim and menopur and a lupron trigger. The protocol was decided on based on my age, and previous treatments I had done at other fertility clinics. 20 eggs were retreived.
Describe your experience with your nurse at Shady Grove Fertility. (Assigned nurse: Effie Ifrat)
I CANNOT say enough good things about the nursing staff and care team at Shady Grove-Rockville, particularly Effie Inbar. They truly go above and beyond for you, and really care about your success. Their communication, expertise, professionalism, etc. was top-notch.
Describe your experience with Shady Grove Fertility.
Shady Grove is a huge fertility clinic with multiple locations along the Southeast. Despite being such a large operation with hundreds of doctors, nurses, patients, etc. I never felt like I was in a factory. All of the doctors, nurses and staff act with the utmost professionalism at all times, and are extremely communicative and prompt with everything. Actually, the fact that they are so large and well-known in the fertility world gave me a lot of peace of mind. They recruit the best doctors, and are up-to-date on all of the latest and best research, procedures, treatments, labs, facilities, etc. I never once doubted that my embryos were in the best hands!
Describe your experience with your monitoring appointments at Shady Grove Fertility.
I was an out-of-state patient at this clinic, so I had my monitoring appts. done at a different clinic off-site.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Joseph Doyle at Shady Grove Fertility.
My treatment was financed through a third party company, as my health insurance does not cover ANYTHING related to infertility. I will say that I thought that the cost of treatment at Shady Grove-Rockville was comparable to what a similar treatment cycle would cost at other fertility clinics. But Shady Grove was much more willing to work with me in offering options related to billing, payment, etc.
Describe Joseph Doyle's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Shady Grove Fertility.
Dr. Doyle and Shady Grove do counsel patients to use eSET when the patient's age and statistical treatment outcome call for it, however, they ultimately allow the patients to make their own choice in how many embryos to transfer. I appreciated the fact that they allow you to make the choice for your own embryos. Some clinics take that choice away from you.

We have had recurrent pregnancy loss, and she [Dr. Johnston-MacAnanny] was very sensitive to it as well as provided a very realistic outlook on treatment, etc...Letrozole 2.5 for 5 days after having an ultrasound to determine I was indeed not pregnant and an HCG test when I started my period. Then, after those 5 days, I had two ultrasounds, to see when my folicules were ready. Once the appropriate size, I was instructed to take a trigger shot. Then we had times intercourse as explained to us. We then had a positive pregnancy test and two bHCGs drawn to ensure progression...
[Shady Grove Fertility] friendly staff, timely nursing staff...non-up front transparency with financial services and what it will cost. We spent a little over 1500 on diagnostics, co pays, etc...Everytime I had a question and emailed on the portal, it was answered super quickly...The only thing I wish I had been told is what to expect as far a timeline, before treatment. This probably should have come from the office. We had a hiccup with our testing (I rested positive for antibodies and I have O- blood type, meaning rhogam was still in my system) and the office seemed like they wanted me to wait another month or so because of this...
How was your experience with Erika Johnston-MacAnanny at Shady Grove Fertility?
The only thing I wish I had been told is what to expect as far a timeline, before treatment. This probably should have come from the office. We had a hiccup with our testing (I rested positive for antibodies and I have O- blood type, meaning rhogam was still in my system) and the office seemed like they wanted me to wait another month or so because of this. I contacted my OBGYN who reached out and got the ball rolling.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Erika Johnston-MacAnanny at Shady Grove Fertility?
Ask exactly what to expect for your problems. This may be a blanket answer or very specific depending on your problems.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Erika Johnston-MacAnanny at Shady Grove Fertility?
We met Dr. Johnston-Macanny during the COVID pandemic via an online method. We have had recurrent pregnancy loss, and she was very sensitive to it as well as provided a very realistic outlook on treatment, etc.
Describe the protocols Erika Johnston-MacAnanny used in your cycles at Shady Grove Fertility and their degree of success.
I have had recurrent pregnancy loss with several chemical miscarriages, longer cycles, diagnostic testing that appeared more like PCOS but without the physical characteristics. I was placed on Letrozole 2.5 for 5 days after having an ultrasound to determine I was indeed not pregnant and an HCG test when I started my period. Then, after those 5 days, I had two ultrasounds, to see when my folicules were ready. Once the appropriate size, I was instructed to take a trigger shot. Then we had times intercourse as explained to us. We then had a positive pregnancy test and two bHCGs drawn to ensure progression. Then, at 6, 7&8 weeks we had ultrasounds to ensure growth.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at Shady Grove Fertility.
Everytime I had a question and emailed on the portal, it was answered super quickly.
Describe your experience with Shady Grove Fertility.
Strengths- friendly staff, timely nursing staff Weaknesses: non-up front transparency with financial services and what it will cost. We spent a little over 1500 on diagnostics, co pays, etc. And we have amazing healthcare coverage.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Erika Johnston-MacAnanny at Shady Grove Fertility.
Between genetic testing, lab work, co-pays, drugs, and ultrasounds it was about $1500.

Dr. Mottla always made me feel hopeful and had excellent bedside manner. He is patient and even came to a different office location to perform one of my procedures himself. I would recommend him to anyone...thoughtful approach to infertility...truly cares about his patients...
The staff at the [at Shady Grove Fertility] clinic became like family to me. They are truly invested in you as a person. The only difficulty I ever had was waiting months to get my initial appointment and with the financial department. But the staff working at this location were caring and beyond helpful...The nursing staff is great...Only once my medication was not called in properly but the clinic was able to give me samples they had so it didn’t affect my treatment at all.

Dr. Mottla always made me feel hopeful and had excellent bedside manner. He is patient and even came to a different office location to perform one of my procedures himself. I would recommend him to anyone. Even though we haven’t been successful yet, I would still recommend him and his thoughtful approach to infertility.

He’s a great doctor so just be prepared to wait to become one of his patients.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Gilbert Mottla at Shady Grove Fertility?
I felt like a human because he was always there for me to answer questions and he was always looking for answers. He even pulled me aside during morning monitoring to check up on me and when we received negative results he cared enough to call and encourage us. He has excellent bedside manner and he truly cares about his patients.
Describe the protocols Gilbert Mottla used in your cycles at Shady Grove Fertility and their degree of success.
One thing I remember is that he prefers estrogen and progesterone shots for frozen cycles and not the oral medication or suppositories.

Dr. Silva prescribed an antagonist protocol with OCPs to prime...has been extremely caring and compassionate throughout our time with SGF. We went from an unexplained infertility diagnosis and a plan of trying a few IUIs to requiring IVF with PGT-M to avoid passing down a genetic disease. While it was devastating to find out that my husband and I are both carriers, Dr. Silva explained the diagnosis, our options, and came up with a treatment plan that made us both feel empowered and excited to move forward with the goal of a healthy baby.
My main nurse [at Shady Grove] is Emily and she is absolutely fantastic! Even though I'm sure she has multiple patients, I always feel like I am a priority. Her communication skills are excellent, whether it's through a portal message or a phone call she is always quick to respond and on top of whatever needs to be done. As a type-A, extremely organized person I'm so glad to have her on my team!!

Over several cycles, we had to do two rounds of medication. Dr. Roth used this information to increase the dosage for the following rounds...took the time to explain the process and get to know us on a personal level... When delivering the news that I would have to lose weight before proceeding, she wasn't especially compassionate or helpful, which was disappointing...She had a positive outlook on the process and didn't make us feel like anything was our fault

Dr. Roth was understanding and took the time to answer questions and get to know us on a personal level. She had a positive outlook on the process and didn't make us feel like anything was our fault. Dr. Roth took the time to explain the process and get to know us on a personal level. However, it was sometimes hard to not feel like a number at Shady Grove as a whole. It's run like a baby-factory - which is good and bad. They're good at what they do and provide lots of availability for testing.

Dr. Garde is very warm. She has a likeable presence and is easy to talk to. She answers all questions, even if you think they might sound dumb. I also appreciate that she is in the office a lot and performs ultrasounds! I see her usually once a month even in passing in the office and she’s always ready to answer my questions. I don’t feel like I have to schedule a follow up appt just to talk to her...She’s in the office often performing ultrasounds, and just by the ultrasound area so it’s nice to be able to have a quick convo without scheduling something formal. I’ve gone through several cycles at SGF with her, and she calls with results sometimes as well. I appreciate her want to work with me on what I’m comfortable with and not rush me into anything.
Sometimes the weekend Sonographers aren’t as great as the weekday staff [at Shady Grove Fertility]. It seems like sometimes they see different things than the weekday team or aren’t reviewing my chart as much as they should be. It gets frustrating sometimes. I will say, ALLLLLL of the staff doing the bloodwork are amazing. Amanda is so sweet and knows to keep me distracted. And they all know me by name. Front desk staff is amazing as well!

he [Dr. Silva] was very personable and very thorough. He made sure we were always comfortable with what was going on. He called us personally to check in. We never felt rushed out of his office and took his time to describe everything to us. ... had to have my right Fallopian tube removed as well as a d&c, then they started my protocol for my egg retrieval. I got 20 eggs, 16 embryos and 10 tested PGS normal. I have had 1 FET that failed and now I am waiting for the state to open non essential procedures back up before I can start my second FET

They were pretty backed up the morning of my first FET, but it was unpredictable. ... they [nursing staff] all took their time with us. Made sure we understood everything and were comfortable with everything that they were doing. One had even been through the process herself and knew what we were going through which was nice.

Dr. Pakrashi is always kind and has excellent bedside manner. She explains options to my husband and I throughly and answers any questions we have...When our treatment didn’t work as expected, she came up with an alternate plan...We used letrozole and a trigger shot with IUI. After trying this for 3 months we were unsuccessful so Dr. Pakrashi recommends that we try an HSG to see if there is any tubal blockage.
The nursing staff [of Shady Grove Fertility] was well organized and kind at each appointment, especially during the IUI procedure...I suggest that you research your options ahead of time and write down any questions you may have...IUI was around $500 including sperm wash...One time the staff forgot to complete scheduling for an appointment that I booked. I called ahead of time to confirm and when the appointment wasn’t there they were quick to get me rescheduled so that I could continue with my cycle.

After my diagnostic test, it was revealed that I had a few things Medically to take care of. Yes, this pushed back my journey to motherhood but [Dr. Khan] explained everything that I had to do and why...Due to my 2 myomectomies and previous miscarriage multiple embryo transfers were too risky...Once I got myself together medically, Dr Khan explained my treatment plan. Even after a set back during COVID, he made sure to teleconference to discuss pans going forward.
They [SGF nurses] were very informative, quick to respond and extremely compassionate...From all of the testing and options available. The process Is pretty overwhelming from the testing to the financial responsibilities. They are realistic with your treatment plan and adjust throughout. In this process, you have very little to no control but they make you feel that you do.
