Dr. Kathiresan took her time with me at every visit and didn't make me feel rushed. She listened to my concerns, patiently answered my questions, and tailored treatment to my concerns/needs...She was direct and up-front with me about treatment plans, success rates that I could expect, side effects of medications, and risks of treatment. She was able to provide sound clinical reasoning for all of her medical decision-making. She struck me as professional with excellent clinical skills. I would refer anyone I know to her without hesitation.
staff [at CORM] was highly professional and welcoming. No complaints here...A medicated cycle with monitoring without IUI was $1275. IUI was an extra $400. Sperm freezing was offered to us at $800... The offices have a home-y feel and a child-free waiting room...There is a nursing triage line for non-urgent questions during normal business hours and an option to page the physician on weekends for emergencies.
How was your experience with Anupama Kathiresan at Shady Grove Fertility Houston (formerly CORM)?
Dr. Kathiresan impressed me greatly with her bedside manner, expertise and communication. I felt I could ask her anything, and no question was too trivial for her. She was direct and up-front with me about treatment plans, success rates that I could expect, side effects of medications, and risks of treatment. She was able to provide sound clinical reasoning for all of her medical decision-making. She struck me as professional with excellent clinical skills. I would refer anyone I know to her without hesitation.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Anupama Kathiresan at Shady Grove Fertility Houston (formerly CORM)?
Dr. Kathiresan is unlikely to give you an unrealistically rosy outlook on your chance of success with different forms of treatment. Not that I found her to be too negative, but I think she might have slightly undersold our chances of treatment success. I prefer my expectations to be set too low rather than too high, but don't expect excessive optimism. She is a fantastic physician with an excellent bedside manner though, and you'll be pleased with your choice.

Describe the protocols Anupama Kathiresan used in your cycles at Shady Grove Fertility Houston (formerly CORM) and their degree of success.
I got pregnant after 1 cycle of Femara 5 mg daily on CD3-7, then Ovidrel to trigger and timed intercourse. Pregnancy is currently ongoing and healthy, now at 10 weeks. Femara was used to induce ovulation for my PCOS, Ovidrel was my trigger shot and no MFI so timed intercourse was sufficient.
Describe your experience with your nurse at Shady Grove Fertility Houston (formerly CORM). (Assigned nurse: Ashley Jackson)
Ashley was the primary nurse I interacted with at CORM. She was excellent at providing prompt information, calling in my prescriptions, and responding to my questions. They have a nurse triage line for questions and I found that Ashley always responded to my non-urgent questions within a few hours. She was courteous, professional, and knowledgeable but willing to ask the doctor if I asked her something she didn't know. Similarly the rest of the staff was highly professional and welcoming. No complaints here.
Describe your experience with Shady Grove Fertility Houston (formerly CORM).
The clinic has multiple locations and flexible hours, which was really convenient for monitoring appointments! My spouse did his lab testing at a Saturday appt (available upon request), which was perfect for his busy weekday schedule. The offices have a home-y feel and a child-free waiting room, which I appreciated. There is a nursing triage line for non-urgent questions during normal business hours and an option to page the physician on weekends for emergencies.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Anupama Kathiresan at Shady Grove Fertility Houston (formerly CORM).
Infertility diagnosis was covered under my insurance, but treatment was not. A medicated cycle with monitoring without IUI was $1275. IUI was an extra $400. Sperm freezing was offered to us at $800.

Thoughtful, considerate, warm. [Dr. Kathiresan] is accessible without making you feel like a burden. She really keeps in contact and makes herself available. She is knowledgeable, and I felt confident in her care. Best doctor to have during this vulnerable journey...She spent a lot of time walking us through each step and didn’t make us feel like a burden for asking questions
Strength [of CORM] - compassionate care. Run well and wait times not long. Staff stay in good contact and seem accessible. Dr. Kathiresan is always nearby and present. Weakness: even with flowsheets, for an anxious stressed person, even simple instructions may be hard to follow. I injected my trigger shot at the wrong time (PM not AM). Probably easy to miss parking garage. I’d say 90% probably miss it and have to U turn. Go a little earlier just in case.

Ask questions. She will answer until you feel comfortable. She is very warm and on social media — but don’t take advantage of that by trying to access her after hours through social media- It wouldn’t be fair to her time.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Anupama Kathiresan at Shady Grove Fertility Houston (formerly CORM)?
She is extremely warm and knowledgeable. She spent a lot of time walking us through each step and didn’t make us feel like a burden for asking questions. My husband and I are both physicians, neither of us are RE. I needed a lot of reassurance and she understood and was so considerate in our treatment plan and care.
Describe the protocols Anupama Kathiresan used in your cycles at Shady Grove Fertility Houston (formerly CORM) and their degree of success.
We had unexplained infertility, and we wanted to try lesser invasive options first. IUI was explained thoroughly and in multiple visits reiterated. We are given a very useful schedule to follow and make it easy to know what pills to take on what day, when to do our trigger shot, when to have sex, etc.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at Shady Grove Fertility Houston (formerly CORM).
They call us and explain on the phone the steps. Then they email us through portal a schedule to make it easy to know what to do. We have a flow sheet to follow

I believe each round of IUI was $1600. I can’t recall completely (new mom brain). I think IVF if we were to proceed with this totaled $14,000

Success w/ Doc Too early to know
Dr. Kathiresan was sent from heaven. We walked into CORM not knowing what to expect, however she made everything we went through easier because she is so knowledgeable and caring. She really became a cheerleader for us and I appreciate her style of care...For both of my retrievals we used the Microdose Lupron Flare protocol with omnitrope and a novarel trigger. The doses started off the same for both, however my doses were tweaked with both towards the end depending on how I was responding
The [CORM] strengths is that they are all very nice, it's small and homey feeling and you don't feel like a number. The weakness is that it is a little on the expensive side and I sometimes felt like the financial side was unwilling to work with us on specific problems/issues...They [nurses] were very friendly, knowledgeable and went out of their way to get me answers and make sure I understood things.

That your fertility journey might take a little longer than you anticipated and don't compare yourself to others.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Anupama Kathiresan at Shady Grove Fertility Houston (formerly CORM)?
I 100% felt like a human while under Dr. Kathiresan's care. I never felt rushed or judged and always felt like she our best interest in mind. She was always so friendly, patient and caring and always took the time to answer every question we had and never made us feel like our questions were dumb or silly.
Describe the protocols Anupama Kathiresan used in your cycles at Shady Grove Fertility Houston (formerly CORM) and their degree of success.
For both of my retrievals we used the Microdose Lupron Flare protocol with omnitrope and a novarel trigger. The doses started off the same for both, however my doses were tweaked with both towards the end depending on how I was responding. For the first transfer, I used estrogen pills (orally and vaginally), estrogen patches, Endometrin and progesterone in oil. I also used dexamethasone and lovenox. That transfer failed and we did a modified transfer protocol for the second one. The second transfer I used Letrozole for 5 days, follistim for a few days, cetrotide and a novarel trigger shot. Once I had good sized follicles and my lining was thick enough, we triggered and my transfer was a week later. Five days before my transfer, I started Endometrin, oral estrogen, lovenox and dexamethasone. 30 minutes before the transfer took place, I took one shot of neupogen. After testing my blood the morning of my transfer, I was switched to vaginal estrogen.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at Shady Grove Fertility Houston (formerly CORM).
There have been a lot of changes to the nursing staff, however despite those changes and the pandemic I felt very cared for and my calls were always returned. They were very friendly, knowledgeable and went out of their way to get me answers and make sure I understood things.

I believe our egg retrieval was around $10,000 plus the costs of medication. The transfers are on a tiered basis. It's $4500 for the first one, $2000 if the first one fails and the third and any after that are free until you get pregnant.

Dr. Kathiresan is punctual, compassionate, understanding, brilliant and has great bed side manners...She explains test results and her plans well and never makes me feel rushed...My thyroid was a little bit low and since pregnant women have different normal range, I was placed on low dose levothyroxine to assure my values are within range, especially since I have a hx of miscarriages
I think if you make an appt [at CORM] later than 9am, then there will be a bit of a wait in the lobby. I also feel like there need to be additional front desk personnel. There's currently only one at Memorial City Office (she's great!) but the office does get busy and I think she may need extra support...she [assigned nurse] returned my phone call the very next day on Sunday to answer my concerns. When I had additional questions, she made sure to forward them to my physician as texted me back with the answers within 30 minutes
How was your experience with Anupama Kathiresan at Shady Grove Fertility Houston (formerly CORM)?
Dr. Kathiresan is punctual, compassionate, understanding, brilliant and has great bed side manners. I never felt rushed when I was there. Given the fact that I have a history of recurrent miscarriages, I was very nervous every visit and she explained everything in detail on why were are adding certain things to my regimen. She is very thorough and her never gives off a negative vibe, which is extremely important in this specialty, as you are dealing emotional/traumatized women. No negatives

Dr. Kathiresan has a great bedside manner and is very compassionate to delicate matters. She is punctual and very responsive to your questions and concerns. She explains test results and her plans well and never makes me feel rushed. Her and her staff are quick to address matters even over the busy holiday weekends. I am so thankful that I was referred to her as she has made my whole experience very comforting. She truly made me and my partner felt cared for and she goes the extra mile!
Describe the protocols Anupama Kathiresan used in your cycles at Shady Grove Fertility Houston (formerly CORM) and their degree of success.
My thyroid was a little bit low and since pregnant women have different normal range, I was placed on low dose levothyroxine to assure my values are within range, especially since I have a hx of miscarriages. I was also placed on anecdotal progesterone suppositories and low dose ASA for prevention of MC. I was only on low dose ASA for a week when a small SCH was noted and was off of it immediately and since then the SCH has been stable. Dr. Kathiresan also saw me weekly with transvaginal U/S to document my progress as I was measuring 2 days behind, stable.
Describe your experience with your nurse at Shady Grove Fertility Houston (formerly CORM). (Assigned nurse: Lori)
Lori was so great! I had some discomfort over Christmas weekend (I called on Sat 12/26) and left a message didn't think much of it and she returned my phone call the very next day on Sunday to answer my concerns. When I had additional questions, she made sure to forward them to my physician as texted me back with the answers within 30 minutes. AMAZING. I felt loved.

How was your experience with Anupama Kathiresan at Shady Grove Fertility Houston (formerly CORM)?
Dr. Kathiresan is the best doctor we could dream of. She is very knowledgable and supportive; she performed all procedures professionally and always explained her treatment. We came to Dr. Kathiresan after one year of trying to get pregnant. Dr. Kathiresan performed a comprehensive health examination for me and my husband and discovered a couple of health issues, we were not aware of. She performed polyps removal surgery for me. Then we started fertility treatment. Dr. Kathiresan communicated to us with different options and explained all the benefits and concerns about each of them. We decided to start with IUI (4 tries) and later switched to IVF, which resulted in pregnancy from the first try and several healthy embryos frozen for our future pregnancies. Dr. Kathiresan was very supportive of the choices we made and did not push us to any specific type of treatment. She gave us time and full of information. She patiently answered all the questions we had. We always felt welcomed with her. She was very attentive and respectful to our reasoning. She encouraged us to stay optimistic and treated us like a family. Even though our journey to pregnancy was long, we enjoyed every moment of being treated by Dr. Kathiresan, and we would definitely recommend her to couples having fertility issues.

We always felt welcomed and warm there!

Dr K [Kathiresan] was incredible! Infertility is such a miserable thing, but her compassion and patience made it a pleasant experience. I always looked forward to seeing her, as I always left feeling reassured and hopeful. She was always willing to answer questions, no matter how neurotic I got. She, more than any doctor I’ve known, looked so genuinely excited for us when we finally got our positive. I wouldn’t wish infertility on anyone, but if you have it- Dr K is the best choice you can make.
I liked it [CORM]. Scheduling was easy, everyone was nice. Lots of locations to choose from. We had to go down to Clear Lake for testing/procedures on the weekend, but it was worth the trip. The Memorial location was my favorite - I rarely had to wait for than a few minutes to be seen.... Ashley was incredible. She was so helpful and was such a sweetheart when she called to give me news, good or bad. She was attentive and was on top of everything throughout each cycle.

Don’t be afraid to ask questions. She’s super patient with them. She’ll give you realistic expectations and help keep you from getting catastrophizing or getting your hopes up.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Anupama Kathiresan at Shady Grove Fertility Houston (formerly CORM)?
Dr K was incredible!
Describe the protocols Anupama Kathiresan used in your cycles at Shady Grove Fertility Houston (formerly CORM) and their degree of success.
We used Letrazole, Gonal F, and Ovridel. Doses were adjusted based on how my body performed.
Describe your experience with your nurse at Shady Grove Fertility Houston (formerly CORM). (Assigned nurse: Ashley)
Ashley was incredible. She was so helpful and was such a sweetheart when she called to give me news, good or bad. She was attentive and was on top of everything throughout each cycle.
Describe your experience with Shady Grove Fertility Houston (formerly CORM).
I liked it. Scheduling was easy, everyone was nice. Lots of locations to choose from. We had to go down to Clear Lake for testing/procedures on the weekend, but it was worth the trip. The Memorial location was my favorite - I rarely had to wait for than a few minutes to be seen.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Anupama Kathiresan at Shady Grove Fertility Houston (formerly CORM).
A full IUI cycle was $1675 + meds.

Dr Anupama Karthiresan treated me with empathy and professional. She gave a detailed explanation on every step for the reason why we have to proceed with IVF right away rather than IUI...She is strict about performing eSET only...She shows compassion and she has an excellent bed side manner. I feel like she is trying to be as honest as possible about our condition and still make us feel like it is not the end of the world.
[CORM] is really nice, clean and relaxing. It almost feel like we are going to a SPA! Everyone is professional and helpful...it took a long time to make an appointment, and then I had to put down deposit in the phone call with them before seeing the doctor...i wish they would do is to follow up with me on my email. They did not do it after my visit. However, everyone in the facility is really friendly and helpful.
How was your experience with Anupama Kathiresan at Shady Grove Fertility Houston (formerly CORM)?
The only setback so far is that she only wanted to try 1 embryo transplant, where the other clinic agrees to have up to 2 embryos. However, she gave a real reason why it has to be that way. She shows compassion and she has an excellent bed side manner. I feel like she is trying to be as honest as possible about our condition and still make us feel like it is not the end of the world.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Anupama Kathiresan at Shady Grove Fertility Houston (formerly CORM)?
Do not hesitate to ask when you have any concerns or any doubts, she is willing to answer all of them to show that she is on your side to help you with your infertility issue.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Anupama Kathiresan at Shady Grove Fertility Houston (formerly CORM)?
Dr Anupama Karthiresan treated me with empathy and professional. She gave a detailed explanation on every step for the reason why we have to proceed with IVF right away rather than IUI. She told us about the IVF process to ensure we are understanding what will be going on. With the previous doctor, I only could talk with him for around 5 mins. She took time to explain (the first visit took 1 hour).
Describe the protocols Anupama Kathiresan used in your cycles at Shady Grove Fertility Houston (formerly CORM) and their degree of success.
I was there to have a consultation since Id like to know whether there is anything we can do beside IVF treatment. She reviewed the blood work and semen sample, and since it was due to the male factor, she did not give me any medication. The only thing she recommended was only vitamin D and prenatal vitamin for me and Clomyd for my husband. Right now we can not say what the result is yet since we have not performed the IVF yet.

Describe your experience with Shady Grove Fertility Houston (formerly CORM).
This clinic is really nice, clean and relaxing. It almost feel like we are going to a SPA! Everyone is professional and helpful, my visit is not a torture to me. Though I did have an issue for the first visit, somehow it took a long time to make an appointment, and then I had to put down deposit in the phone call with them before seeing the doctor. I thought it was odd since I never had to do that with my other doctors. Also, there was no follow-up after my 1st visit, I had to call them all the time to arrange 2nd visit. These hiccups did not really deter me since I like dr Karthiresan.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Anupama Kathiresan at Shady Grove Fertility Houston (formerly CORM).
I had my Blue Cross Blue Shield insurance and I had to pay 350 for the first ultrasound and blood work. Also around 100 for the semen analysis. However, for the IVF cycle, it was 14500 without the PGS testing and 17000 with the PGS.
Describe Anupama Kathiresan's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Shady Grove Fertility Houston (formerly CORM).
She is strict about performing eSET only. I prefer multiple embryo transfer to have a better chance to have twins.

Education is also important to me and Dr. Kathiresan was very informative and made sure we knew our options at each step of the way. With infertility being such a personal and possibly painful topic, you want your care to be at a place that sees you are more than just business. She rooted for us and considered our embryos as precious as we did. It was clear that she cared not only for a successful pregnancy but that we were comfortable, meaning nothing was ever rushed or pressured.
The clinic [CORM] was small and intimate. I felt like we were seen and each of the staff knew us and our history each time we visited. On the weekends, the staff rotate at the surgical center so we would often see a familiar face if an appointment landed on the weekend. Even the administrative/insurance department recalled our files and were so helpful getting any issues resolved with my insurance company and explained everything thoroughly.
How was your experience with Anupama Kathiresan at Shady Grove Fertility Houston (formerly CORM)?
I did extensive research on the infertility clinics in Houston before I visited anyone. CORM and Dr. Kathiresan was on the top of my list as not only was her background impressive, but so were her colleagues and I knew in the field that your care may be in the hands of one of the other doctors if your appointment landed on a weekend. We ended up consulting a different infertility clinic at the recommendation of our OB. While that clinic was professional, my husband and I felt uneasy about the volume of patients each time we visited where we felt like just a number. I went with my gut and sought a second consultation with Dr. Kathiresan at CORM. Everyone at CORM was warm and the office had an intimate setting. What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Anupama Kathiresan at Shady Grove Fertility Houston (formerly CORM)?
Research the entire clinic, not just the primary doctor for your care, including their lab if they have one. Make sure you're absolutely comfortable with your doctor and nurses where you can bring up any issues or questions. See multiple doctors until you find the one you're comfortable with.

Only a handful of doctors meant that I could research all of them and felt comfortable with all of them. Their rotating staff on the weekends meant that if I had a weekend appointment, I usually saw a familiar face at the surgical center. They also have their own storage facility and lab for the embryos. Their surgical center is located in Clear Lake with plenty of parking.

She [Dr. Kathiresan] was very nice and knowledgeable but very conservative with treatment. She wasn’t willing to do any immune treatment or prophylactic treatments. She was also Willing to follow what we wanted as far as timed intercourse vs IUI etc.... 1st timed intercourse cycle- Large cyst at baseline but continued. Only one egg on 7.5 mg letrozole. Trigger on day 16. 0 beta. 2nd timed intercourse cycle- clean baseline. 7.5 femara followed by 4 days of 75iu gonal F. Only 2 eggs that were barely mature at CD 13.
The clinics financial department was a nightmare from start to finish. They [CORM] told me things weren’t covered when I knew for a fact they were. They tried to make me do a $1100 package for my third timed cycle but the protocol was the same as my second and I only needed 2 ultrasounds and lab work. The package was for 4 monitoring sessions. If I had paid separately for each aspect of my cycle it was going to be much much cheaper.

Tested out trigger at home and after 3 days of negatives I had 3 days of positives but the nurses said no betas until 14 dpo. By that point tests were lightening again. Beta of ~3. No follow up to see if it was rising or falling. Just told to stop progesterone.

They had also said the cost for a cycle capped out at the $1100 so If I ended up needed the full package i didn’t pay more. It seems like I always got a different answer depending on who I spoke to. I got the impression that things were done a certain way and that was not open for change on a case by case basis. I feel like the management prioritises profits over patients.

Dr.Kathiresan was very gentle and explained all of my options and was my pushy about which options to do. It was our choice of what we are comfortable with. she [Dr. Kathiresan] made my husband and I feel like she really cared. She explained all procedures with visuals and in a manner we could understand. She was hopeful yet gently told us the limitations and risks...it was obvious she does her best to meet her patients’ wish to be parents...she really puts her heart in her profession...remembered our names and was very familiar with our case. Ashley [nurse at CORM] was so kind and thorough. She was professional and prompt...Strengths: appointments were generally quick; waiting area was private; clinic was clean; front staff is friendly; ultrasound technician is kind and friendly ...The only weakness is that the front office phone is never answered and patient has to leave a voicemail then wait for a returned call...The last few weeks we had a different nurse but did not interact with her as much due to the stage of our cycle.

[Dr. Anupama Kathiresan] is very professional, caring and dedicated physician who warmly understands all your emotional and physical concerns...I would recommend her strongly to anyone is looking for a safe journey. We were treated professionally and passionately by Dr Kathiresan...I can’t point out on a single event that she was disappointing!
In my opinion, clinic and administrative staff [at CORM] do only their routine job and nothing great. I wouldn’t choose this clinic if it was not for their physicians’ proficiency. Otherwise, the clinical staff are less considerate and compassionate with the patient and never flexible...Couple of times, the nurse had errors on her advices and I had to second guess her until she confirms the right procedure….

I have gone through this procedure twice for both my babies. So somehow I know the procedure with Transfer and tests. Couple of times, the nurse had errors on her advices and I had to second guess her until she confirms the right procedure….few other events happened however I believe the medical error in this field is totally unacceptable considering the sensitivity of the procedure and patience’s morality going through this!

We actually wanted to transfer 2 embryos but when Dr Kathiresan explained to us why they don’t offer that we understood and was very pleased with the results...She gave my husband and I options and we went with the one we both was comfortable with. She never missed any appointments with us...
The [CORM] clinic was great overall. Answering the phone need to be a little better. You can’t really call and speak to someone if you have an urgent question. You’ll have to leave a message then someone will call back . It’s a little annoying but it works I guess...we paid cash but they did have a program so we only paid $15,000 upfront and then the rest was monthly payments...this excludes medication.

Even though we were in a middle of a pandemic. !! The most important things for me she didn’t judge me , I was looking for a doctor that would not judge me based on my age and Dr Kathiresan did not so I was comfortable with her . Ps..I was 25 at the time .
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Anupama Kathiresan at Shady Grove Fertility Houston (formerly CORM)?
Be patient everything will work out for you !
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Anupama Kathiresan at Shady Grove Fertility Houston (formerly CORM)?
She was great and explained everything to me.
Describe your experience with your nurse at Shady Grove Fertility Houston (formerly CORM). (Assigned nurse: Dr Alison )
I loved Nurse Alison she was very helpful and kind to me and I always enjoyed talking to her.
Describe your experience with Shady Grove Fertility Houston (formerly CORM).
The clinic was great overall. Answering the phone need to be a little better. You can’t really call and speak to someone if you have an urgent question. You’ll have to leave a message then someone will call back . It’s a little annoying but it works I guess..
Describe the costs associated with your care under Anupama Kathiresan at Shady Grove Fertility Houston (formerly CORM).
20000 maybe more I didn’t have insurance so we paid cash but they did have a program so we only paid $15,000 upfront and then the rest was monthly payments ... this excludes medication.
Describe Anupama Kathiresan's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Shady Grove Fertility Houston (formerly CORM).
We actually wanted to transfer 2 embryos but when Dr Kathiresan explained to us why they don’t offer that we understood and was very pleased with the results.

I feel like she [Dr. Kathiresan] truly cares about the results, as if she's rooting for us as much as our families. I feel like I can trust her to point us in the best direction. Even if were not sure we want to go the route she's suggesting she's not pushy but understanding. She understands the stress and hope that goes with this process. I thank her for that and hope for success in our future.... She lets me know what concerns her most about any situation we go through. I believe her best strength is her compassion. She in this with us not just treating. Not sure about any weaknesses, I suppose I wasn't focused on that so much
The clinic [CORM] is well staffed and the scheduling doesn't overlap too much so the wait time is minimal. We were doing the IUI cycles [with Dr. Kathiresan] since I had problem with ovulation and PCOS. We didn't do the injectables since I was very young and had chances of multiples. We only did the pills and cycle monitoring. Our second cycle was successful...She is very patient and knowledgeable. She knows exactly what she is doing and very confident with her approach. She takes time to explain her patients the overall procedure.
The nurses and administrative staff [at CORM] are very sweet and very quick with appointments setup. Ashley has been very supportive and kind while answering my questions. We know the odds are stacked against us but we keep in mind if this cycle isn't successful, Dr. Katherisean said she'll evaluate and make any changes needed to improve our chances at a second cycle treatment. She [Dr. Kathiresan] was very patient with the fact that I was uncomfortable with needles and took extra time to explain the injections to my husband. Dr. Kathiresan was always available to connect in person in the clinic, on virtual calls or via the Kindbody app...She never rushed any of our appointments or minimized my concerns...spent a lot of extra time explaining the IVF Journey and all of the procedures that I would go through from Retrieval to FET...
The in-clinic nurses [at Kindbody Los Angeles] were fantastic. What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Anupama Kathiresan at Kindbody - Los Angeles?
Bring a list of questions on your phone or written down. You'll feel frazzled when you get into the clinic so it's helpful to have questions to run through.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Anupama Kathiresan at Kindbody - Los Angeles?
Dr. Kathiresan was extremely patient, communicative and willing to spend extra time answering all my questions in person or via the Kindbody App. She never rushed any of our appointments or minimized my concerns.
Describe the protocols Anupama Kathiresan used in your cycles at Kindbody - Los Angeles and their degree of success.
Due to my age (41) and the fact that we only had 1 healthy embryo viable for FET, Dr. Kathiresan advised a daily Lovenox shot until 6 weeks of pregnancy and Progesterone in Oil every other day until 10 weeks of pregnancy. She also advised Estradiol (oral am/vaginal pm) and Endometrin (vaginal - 3x) daily until 10 weeks of pregnancy. The Progesterone in Oil was incredibly painful for the first few weeks but it really helped to warm the shot under an armpit or in a warm hand prior to injection. Firmly massaging the injection spot was also very effective in spreading out the medication. This course of treatment resulted in a confirmed pregnancy, now over 12 weeks.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at Kindbody - Los Angeles.
The in-clinic nurses were fantastic. Sabah and Melissa did a majority of my blood draw appts and were extra patient with my Trypanophobia (fear of needles). The care coordinators were also very good but I would have preferred having a consistent go-to for medications and communication in the portal.
Describe your experience with Kindbody - Los Angeles.
Kindbody is a fantastic clinic. From the moment you walk in the door, it is very welcoming and doesn’t feel like a traditional doctors’ office. The waiting room feels more like a lounge and they provide water, juice, tea and snacks for patients. I went to appointments in both Santa Monica and Century City. The Century City location is in the mall so I didn’t like the crowded parking garage at certain times of day but the clinic itself is wonderful. The new Santa Monica location was more convenient for me, especially as I was always able to find metered street parking.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Anupama Kathiresan at Kindbody - Los Angeles.
IVF Freeze all with PGTa $16,000 IVF Medications prior to retrieval and after transfer cost about $7,500-$8,000 Fetal Embryo Transfer $4,400 There were also $25 office visit costs for the Ultrasounds and Blood Draws
Describe Anupama Kathiresan's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Kindbody - Los Angeles.
My employer fertility benefits through Carrot only covers single embryo transfer for the safety of the patient. Dr. Kathiresan and I never had to discuss her approach to eSET because it was never my intention to transfer more than 1 embryo.

Dr. Kathiresan is all about educating patients. She always had visuals during my visits so that I could understand the biological processes at work throughout my treatment, visually see timeliness and outlines of what she was describing, and she even showed me my radiologic images so that I knew what was currently happening inside me...Very knowledgeable and always wants to ensure that you understand what is being discussed, what are your options, and what additional assistance you can utilize to help with any difficulties that may come up during treatment...
I appreciate the flexibility of my appointments [at CORM] when I would arrive late due to uncontrollable circumstances. I liked how easy it was to check in and how the clinic staff were organized and punctual. The clinics (I visited 3 of them) were always neat, clean, and visually appealing. The only weakness I can recall is that privacy was not always respected...the waiting areas were not that large, but I feel like the staff could have made a better effort to keep from disclosing personal information or asking personal questions that could be easily overheard by other patients.
How was your experience with Anupama Kathiresan at Shady Grove Fertility Houston (formerly CORM)?
Great doctor. Very knowledgeable and always wants to ensure that you understand what is being discussed, what are your options, and what additional assistance you can utilize to help with any difficulties that may come up during treatment. Dr. Kathiresan genuinely cares and listened attentively whenever I spoke with her. She is very thorough and so everything within her power and expertise to achieve anticipated results. I was very anxious with minor exams, to the point that anxiolytics were prescribed (to no avail). Dr. Kathiresan recommended pelvic floor therapy which helped me to manage my anxiety without medications. I even had to undergo a procedure utilizing general anesthesia, and Dr. Kathiresan had already arranged with one of her more specialized colleagues to be on standby if an additional surgery needed to be done, so that I would not have to go through general anesthesia multiple times. She was never pushy with her recommendations, but she was very realistic and supported whatever decisions I ultimately made. Dr. Kathiresan is all about educating patients. She always had visuals during my visits so that I could understand the biological processes at work throughout my treatment, visually see timeliness and outlines of what she was describing, and she even showed me my radiologic images so that I knew what was currently happening inside me. There was also an instance where I had a very poor experience with staff in the clinic. Even though Dr. Kathiresan could not directly address the problem, she connected me to the right person who could address my concerns. I also appreciated when she would text or call me after hours when she had urgent information to relay to me. The only things that would have made my experience perfect was if Dr. Kathiresan was always on time, especially during video visits, and if she would slow down when presenting information. As a medical professional, I was able to grasp most of what she shared, however, my husband would be overwhelmed every time.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Anupama Kathiresan at Shady Grove Fertility Houston (formerly CORM)?
Watch her educational videos and jot down anything that you would like her to explain in further detail. Ask questions and don't hesitate to ask her to lay out all of your options to further help you make informed decisions. If she does not have an answer she will definitely direct you to the right resources.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Anupama Kathiresan at Shady Grove Fertility Houston (formerly CORM)?
She gave me detailed information, answered questions, introduced me to her easy to understand educational videos, and made suggestions to help with any difficulties I experienced.
Describe the protocols Anupama Kathiresan used in your cycles at Shady Grove Fertility Houston (formerly CORM) and their degree of success.
I underwent IUI. After our initial diagnostic exams were completed, there were no biological explanations found for my inability to conceive, so we proceeded with treatment 4 days after my last menstrual cycle started. I took 2.5mg letrozole days 3-7 (I mistakenly started 1 day early). The rationale for this was to increase the number of viable follicles to produce eggs. On day 12 my LH and progesterone were checked, and then on day 13 I was instructed to inject the trigger shot, ovidrel, subcutaneously at home. Ovidrel was used to help with ovulation. On day 15 I went for the IUI, using moderate sedation, since Dr. Kathiresan had difficulty accessing my cervix during the hsg. On day 17 I started prescribed progesterone suppositories to support the developing fetus and decrease the chance of miscarriage. I took the suppositories for 9 weeks. Thankfully my IUI was a success and I am currently 11 weeks pregnant.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at Shady Grove Fertility Houston (formerly CORM).
I appreciated the timely returned calls from the Triage line. I was not pleased with my first experience having an iv inserted in the clinic since the nurses did not listen to my suggestions, after which they had 3 failed iv attempts. The successful iv attempt during that visit infiltrated, leaving me with a severely injured arm that I had trouble using for weeks. Fortunately that experience was the last of its kind and the nurses (different ones from that previous visit) were very thorough in what I could anticipate for the visit, reassuring when they noticed my anxiety, and lighthearted.

Describe the costs associated with your care under Anupama Kathiresan at Shady Grove Fertility Houston (formerly CORM).
Every visit I paid a copay. Insurance covered about 80% of my treatment costs after I met the deductible, so I paid the difference for the following: an unscheduled abdominal ultrasound, general anesthesia and other hospital costs with my hsg, all medications, including IV medications. Out of pocket I spent at least $5000.

Dr. Kathiresan listened to all our concerns and answered all our questions with patience. She is very good at explaining the process and shares realistic predictive outcomes. She was flexible in including our options...Note that retrievals are typically done by on-call doctor...All my concerns and questions were addressed in a timely, honest and patient manner.
[CORM's] policy was eSET...Note that retrievals are typically done by on-call doctor. Very good surgical center, clinic and staff. Appointments usually start a little late (10-15 mins than scheduled time), so anticipate spending little more time at clinic each time. Parking is free at all locations except Medical Center location.....[nursing staff was] Quick response to calls; Very good medication coordination; Very helpful in giving extra tips

Describe the protocols Anupama Kathiresan used in your cycles at Shady Grove Fertility Houston (formerly CORM) and their degree of success.
Short protocol (for both IVF cycles). I was responding well to the stimulation medications wrt. peak estrogen levels both the times. Outcome from 1st cycle was 0 day-5 embryos. For 2nd cycle, additional growth hormone injection along with stim injections helped in a much favourable outcome.(7 day-5 embryos)

Had fertility insurance through employer so out of pocket cost was considerably low.
Describe Anupama Kathiresan's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Shady Grove Fertility Houston (formerly CORM).
Clinic's policy was eSET. We had no problem with the approach.
What specific things went wrong at Shady Grove Fertility Houston (formerly CORM)?
  • Provided conflicting information
Describe the specific things that went wrong at Shady Grove Fertility Houston (formerly CORM).
Had some conflicting instructions on post retrieval medication for embryo transfer. This was resolved once I checked again with nurse triage. (Had called to checked something else). Don't think the clinic does much fresh transfers, so the nurse was confused with transfer medication post retrieval.

Dr Kathiresan was the greatest doctor we could have asked for. She has just enough empathy without it being overkill and is such a straight shooter with the facts and information. I like someone who is not going to sugar coat it to me. I want to know options, recommendations, risks, etc. She always let us choose our own path without judgement after giving her recommendations. I always felt like I was in good hands with her and everyone at the office. Never had a bad experience
We did medicated Egg retreival [at CORM]...We ended up with 20+ eggs, and over 6 PGS tested normal embryos. I had to have uterine polyps removed before our frozen embryo transfer...they [nurses] were all informative and very sweet!...I think the clinic as a whole was great. Only suggestion would be to have the call backs a little shorter on the nurse triage line. Sometimes I just had a quick question but would have to wait 8 hours for a response from the nurse triage.

To just meet with a couple of doctors and see who you like more. We liked Dr K much more than the other doctors
Describe the protocols Anupama Kathiresan used in your cycles at Shady Grove Fertility Houston (formerly CORM) and their degree of success.
We did medicated Egg retreival using lupron, gonal F, and cetrotide I think? We ended up with 20+ eggs, and over 6 PGS tested normal embryos. I had to have uterine polyps removed before our frozen embryo transfer which Dr. K performed. Then once healed after that, we started the FET cycle. I was taking estradiol pills, estradiol patches, progesterone suppositories, and progesterone in ethyl oleate injections. It all went by very quickly and worked the first transfer :)

Describe the costs associated with your care under Anupama Kathiresan at Shady Grove Fertility Houston (formerly CORM).
I think in total for medications, IVF retrieval, FET, and a surgery to remove uterine polyps we spent around $30K. Without the surgery it was about $25K for all medications and everything.
Describe Anupama Kathiresan's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Shady Grove Fertility Houston (formerly CORM).
Dr K recommends and I believe only allows single emrbyo transfers.

Dr. Katherisan is very knowledgeable and transparently shares results, recommendations, and next steps in a clear manner. Additionally, she has a bedside manner that shows she cares about her patients, and wants to ensure their comfort during the process. For example, during my HSG test, she walked me through everything that was going to happen, and periodically paused to check and make sure I was doing alright.
The [CORM] clinic was always organized for the most part, and called back within a reasonable time if they were away from the phone when I called. The staff was always very helpful, and the patient portal was very thorough and always up to date...All of the nursing staff were very kind and attentive to me when I was in the office. They each explained everything very well, and were always very polite.

During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Anupama Kathiresan at Shady Grove Fertility Houston (formerly CORM)?
Dr. Katherisan made each of our visits personal to us, even during virtual consultations due to Covid-19 restrictions. She was always very thorough with her explanations, and allowed plenty of time for questions throughout the conversation. She was also very good about maintaining transparency throughout the process, and wanted to ensure I had all of the information I needed.
Describe the protocols Anupama Kathiresan used in your cycles at Shady Grove Fertility Houston (formerly CORM) and their degree of success.
I was in a bit of a unique situation because after the HSG test, Dr. Katherisan determined that some uterine polyps may be causing slight tubal blockage, and recommended surgery to have them removed. However, the month that the surgery was to be scheduled, I ended up getting pregnant naturally! From there Dr. Katherisan monitored me under her care until releasing me to my OBGYN.
