Dr. Bedient is very caring and genuine once you get to meet her in person. She's very thorough and answers whatever questions you may have when you have one-on-one appointments with her. She's very patient and listens to all of your concerns...However, if you don't know the right questions to ask and are new to this process, she doesn't give out a ton of information. I learned more about the fertility journey and process by Googling and watching other women's stories on YouTube. That's how I knew to ask some questions.
She [Fertility Center of Las Vegas nurse] let me know her emails are very direct and to the point if I should have any questions. She was very fast at responding to my emails...For IVF, it was right around $26,000 out of pocket. Medication was right at $3,700...The strengths are definitely the staff. I absolutely love the ultrasound technicians I deal with and assistants. I can't begin to describe how kind they were to me while I was miscarrying. It was then that I realized they are just as invested in this process with you. The only weakness is communication. In the very beginning, I had no idea what to expect and what the next step was
How was your experience with Carrie Bedient at Fertility Center of Las Vegas?
Dr. Bedient is very caring and genuine once you get to meet her in person. She's very thorough and answers whatever questions you may have when you have one-on-one appointments with her. She's very patient and listens to all of your concerns. She addresses everything and anything you might inquire about. However, if you don't know the right questions to ask and are new to this process, she doesn't give out a ton of information. I learned more about the fertility journey and process by Googling and watching other women's stories on YouTube. That's how I knew to ask some questions. I believe going through fertility treatments is so hard financially, emotionally, and physically. It creates so much anxiety and uncertainty. Going in as a patient, you don't always know what to ask or forget simply from nerves. Personally, I would've appreciated more appointments with Dr. Bedient herself to learn about everything I was going through. That's not to say you can't make an appointment with her because you can at any time. I suppose I just had different expectations starting this journey with the amount of time and information I'd get with Dr. Bedient and from watching, again, other women's stories. Not what I experienced.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Carrie Bedient at Fertility Center of Las Vegas?
Have a list of questions ready. If you are new to fertility like I was, you're not going to be told much other than what you ask. Do your research and ask other women what would be helpful to ask and know going into this process. Ask about all possible outcomes. I was led to believe IVF was pretty much how I was going to be successful in having a baby. Well, my egg retrieval ended up with no quality embryos. I wasn't even aware that could be a possibility since there's nothing abnormal with any of our testing. Now I'm left completely devastated. I didn't know you might have to go through a couple of retrieval to be successful. I think that's something that should be thoroughly discussed.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Carrie Bedient at Fertility Center of Las Vegas?
When you're in the actual office being seen, you get whatever questions you need answered. If the nurse or doctor isn't available, you have to call and leave a message and they're not great about getting back to you in a timely manner. Made me feel like just another number once you left the office.
Describe the protocols Carrie Bedient used in your cycles at Fertility Center of Las Vegas and their degree of success.
For the five IUI cycles I did, I thin I did the standard treatment, from what I understand. 50 milligrams of clomid for five days starting on Day 3 of my cycle. I would do the HCG trigger shot around 24 hours before the insemination. Then an antibiotic was prescribed for after the insemination to prevent infection. I had one pregnancy from five cycles, and it resulted in miscarriage at 8 weeks.
For my IVF cycle, I was prescribed Menopur,Gonal,Clomid, Cetrotide, and HCG trigger shot again. I took 100 milligrams of clomid for five days along with the Menopur and Gonal for about ten days. I added in the cetrotide at the end when it was time to ovulate to stop ovulation, I believe. I did the trigger shot 24 hours before the egg retrieval.
Describe your experience with your nurse at Fertility Center of Las Vegas. (Assigned nurse: Katie)
We met with Katie to go over all of the medications I would be taking for IVF and how to administer them. She was so very patient and sweet in explaining the shots and went over the steps multiple times with me because I was a nervous mess at that appointment. She let me know her emails are very direct and to the point if I should have any questions. She was very fast at responding to my emails.
The staff there is so kind. I usually have the main girls I deal with when I go in for ultrasounds, and they're all very kind and genuine.
Describe your experience with Fertility Center of Las Vegas.
The strengths are definitely the staff. I absolutely love the ultrasound technicians I deal with and assistants. I can't begin to describe how kind they were to me while I was miscarrying. It was then that I realized they are just as invested in this process with you.
The only weakness is communication. In the very beginning, I had no idea what to expect and what the next step was. I think they forget that new patients have no idea what they're about to walk in to. They're so busy and sometimes the extra time you need is not quite given and you feel rushed. I don't believe by any means that it's intentional. I just think sometimes there's too many patients to give the care you expect to receive. This is a life-changing experience and journey. I know it's difficult to be really detailed at every appointment, but with the amount of money you're spending out of pocket, sometimes better care could have been given.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Carrie Bedient at Fertility Center of Las Vegas.
For IVF, it was right around $26,000 out of pocket. Medication was right at $3,700. I don't know the exact breakdown, but my payment was 10,000 to the fertility clinic and 10,000 to the embryology department, I believe. 4,000 of that was for genetic testing of embryos. I'm not positive for the IUI breakdown as I paid cash first and then my insurance kicked in to cover some costs, so I had a credit for a cycle or two. Insurance does NOT cover any IVF costs for me.
Describe Carrie Bedient's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Fertility Center of Las Vegas.
I didn't make it to this stage as I didn't have any healthy embryos resulting from the retrieval and fertilization.
What specific things went wrong at Fertility Center of Las Vegas?
- Failed to call in prescriptions to pharmacy
- Lost paperwork
- Failed to call with results
- Failed to order appropriate test
- Failed to consider drug intolerance
Describe the specific things that went wrong at Fertility Center of Las Vegas.
Only the first time the prescriptions were sent to the pharmacy on time. Every single time after that, I had to call the pharmacy and have them fax the facility to get my prescriptions. The prescriptions have to be taken on set days. It's very stressful spending so much money and not having follow- through from your doctor's office. If I hadn't stayed on the doctor's office and pharmacy, one whole cycle would've been missed because I wouldn't have received the medications on time.
The other thing that happened is one of my IUI cycles I went in for, they had me down for IVF with these complete wrong paperwork for my appointment.
I've also had to go back to give blood because they forgot to take it while I was there. Sometimes they get so busy that they become very disorganized.
