He's [Dr. Chen is] kind and considerate, but seemed like he was just going through the motions. He did not make solid recommedations for a treatment plan, instead asked us what we thought and what we wanted to do. We would have preferred a firm recommedation considering he is the medical professional. The nurses [at Valley Hospital Fertility Center] seem to be going through the motions and forget that you are going through this for the first time and make assumptions that you know what they are talking about or have a better understanding of procedures than you may have. They do not answer the phone, you must leave a message and wait to for them to call you back. They rely mainly on the portal to give medication instructions. How was your experience with Dehan Chen at Valley Hospital Fertility Center?
Dr. Chen seemed like a fine doctor when we first met him during our consultation. He's kind and considerate, but seemed like he was just going through the motions. He did not make solid recommedations for a treatment plan, instead asked us what we thought and what we wanted to do. We would have preferred a firm recommedation considering he is the medical professional. I felt like I had to ask a lot of questions and/or ask for clarification, versus Dr. Chen giving a good explanation up front. His answers were always short without much elaboration.

During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Dehan Chen at Valley Hospital Fertility Center?
This is a relatively small practice with only 3 doctors and I felt like the staff make you feel like it's the first time they are seeing you every visit.
Describe the protocols Dehan Chen used in your cycles at Valley Hospital Fertility Center and their degree of success.
300IU Follistim w/ 150 Menopur for 3 nights, Follistim then reducted to 150IU the next visit, then 75IU, then I was taken off of it. Dr. Chen believed I had too high of a dose of Follistim which affected my retrieved egg quality. During monitoring the nurses had led me to believe that I was responding well to the medication, but turns out it was most likely too high of a dose.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at Valley Hospital Fertility Center.
The nurses seem to be going through the motions and forget that you are going through this for the first time and make assumptions that you know what they are talking about or have a better understanding of procedures than you may have. They do not answer the phone, you must leave a message and wait to for them to call you back. They rely mainly on the portal to give medication instructions. I also repeately had to ask them to send my prescription to my pharmacy of choice - they kept sending them to their default one. They also told me to call the pharmacy to have the prescription transferred. Overall lack of attention to detail.
Describe your experience with Valley Hospital Fertility Center.
Egg retrievals are done at an outpatient building, separate from the main clinic and lab location, so there is transporation to and from the lab. Day of retrieval they had my husband produce his sample at home and transport it to the outpatient center, vs. providing it fresh.
Describe your experience with your monitoring appointments at Valley Hospital Fertility Center.
Because of Covid, they scheduled your monitoring appointments for a specific time. This made the visits very efficient since they were able to control the amount of people at one time. It was definetly a cattle call when it was your turn.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Dehan Chen at Valley Hospital Fertility Center.
Diagnostics: around $2800, Egg Retrieval Cycle: $1500, PGT testing: $3000 (not covered by insurance). It must be noted that this clinic DOES not process claims for treatment cycles if you insurances states no fertility coverage. After repeatedly asking billing to submit claims (and being made to feel like we were fools for asking) for our IVF cycle, it turned out we had significant plan discount with our insurance and in turn are due back significant credit. You must insist they submit claims for all procedures. A true advocate for patients would do this without being asked.

Describe the specific things that went wrong at Valley Hospital Fertility Center.
I repeately had to ask them to send my prescription to my pharmacy of choice - they kept sending them to their default one. When I made them aware of this mistake, they told me to call the (wrong) pharmacy to have the prescription transferred. I requested my records so I could have a consultation with another clinic, when 2 weeks went by and still no records were sent, they said they had no record of my request.
