Success w/ Doc Too early to know
Dr. Tarnawa has always been very personable and caring. He is very easy to talk to and thoroughly describes everything. I have a retroverted uterus and my cervix is angled up so the IUI procedure was more difficult and took a little thinking outside of the box, using different flexible catheters.... I went to Dr. Tarnawa as a second opinion after working with an alternate fertility clinic. I was diagnosed with unexplained infertility after all of my tests came back normal. This is now the fourth year I've been trying to conceive my first child.
Overall my experience has been pleasant. I do feel there was a communication disconnect on occasion. One nurse [at PREG] would tell me one thing, then another would tell me something different. I also scheduled an appt once and when I arrived they had no record that the appointment was made. What's funny is that was the only time I had them write my appointment date and time on a business card so I had proof that I had scheduled the appointment. I ended up waiting over an hour.

Describe the protocols Edward Tarnawa used in your cycles at Piedmont Reproductive Endocrinology Group and their degree of success.
I went to Dr. Tarnawa as a second opinion after working with an alternate fertility clinic. I was diagnosed with unexplained infertility after all of my tests came back normal. This is now the fourth year I've been trying to conceive my first child. Because of my small size I was started on 50 MG clomid before my first IUI. I was only producing 1-2 follicles so he increased my clomid to 100mg which prompted my body to produce a more follicles but still only 1-2 would continue to advance. After three clomid cycles, 2 being IUI cycles, i was still unable to conceive.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at Piedmont Reproductive Endocrinology Group.
Overall the nursing staff were pleasant to work with. I had two occasions, with two different nurses, that I felt were upsetting. First, when I was checking out after my last ultrasound visit, I was given a time for my husband and I to come back for a semen retrieval and IUI. I asked the checkout nurse if there was another time available that day and the look she gave me was like, "are you serious!?" and she very loudly asked, "for your insemination procedure!?" There were several others in the lobby and I felt a little embarrassed. Also not sure why she felt the need to ask since of course that is what I'm referring to being my only scheduled appointment. The second time was during my second IUI. When I went for my first IUI I was never told to come with a full bladder and therefore the procedure was more difficult and painful. So I made sure to drink a glass of water and not use the restroom the second time around, obviously I would want the procedure to be as easy and painless as possible. So when they started the ultrasound the nurse assisting my usual nurse (who is great) kept asking if I really drank anything because my bladder was not full. It almost seemed like she was accusing me of lying. She then proceeded to berate me about it, pointing it out on the ultrasound and getting increasingly frustrated. So much so that i felt the tears welling upon my eyes. Luckily they left the room, to get me an entire bottle of water, so they did not see. In the end, the full bladder did not make much of a difference because of the positioning of my uterus and bend in my cervix.

We felt like family. He [Dr. Tarnawa] took his time and explained all of our options. He just didn’t give medical names of procedures but spoke to each one of them. He asked if there were questions that we had and he answered each one. My list was completely checked off....He makes sure that we have touch points each visit and updates us on the next steps. We enjoy that we get to see him each time we visit. He is an important person in our process and progress!
The nursing staff [PREG] was friendly and funny. They were very complimentary. They welcomed me in the back and let me know what we were doing before we began....We enjoy my visits. The waiting area is always clean and inviting. The front desk staff is always welcoming and greet us with smiles. They are also very personable. It doesn’t feel like a doctors visit but a visit to a friends’. The people at the clinic get to know you personally. It doesn’t feel like you’re just a number. At least we didn’t. We are able to tell you about each person we’ve met there, not just their profession.

Dr. EDWARD D. TARNAWA, M.D. is very compassion and shows that he is will to help us have a successful conception. During our visits, Dr. Tarnawa thoroughly discuss any abnormalities and make recommendations on successful ways to conceive. He also discussed the different methods such as IUI and IVF.... He’s very understanding and knowledgeable on the different procedures and options available for infertility issues
This clinic [PREG] provided me with a packet of information to complete before my appointment to provide them with information about the infertility issue. I fell like this is a strength on the behave because it gives them the opportunity to find out health history on their patients before pursuing options.... The cost we was informed with for the IVF was $12,000 for the procedure and another $5,000 for medication. Our insurance paid for the infertility screening only.

Dr. Tarnawa is a very kind and patient doctor. He took his time to explain the good and the bad of IVF treatment. I liked the fact he didn't look in a hurry or a rush to get through the appointment. He made me feel hopeful during the whole process. I felt relaxed and very comfortable with his care. I would gladly and graciously recommend Dr. Tarnawa to anyone needing infertility treatment.
They are organized and professional. You are not kept waiting for long periods of time. It is a very neat and clean facility. The staff is great and a pleasure to work with ... All the staff are wonderful. They greet you by name and make you feel part of the Preg family ... The goal is to have a healthy baby. He [Dr. Tarnawa] recommends a single embryo transfer. I agree with the goals and trust his judgment.

[Dr. Edward Tarnawa is] down to earth, patient, kind, but also direct and to the point. I t would have been helpful to meet with the finance person and the doctor together since the decision of which course of action to take was affected by out of pocket cost...did a great job explaining all the scientific medical things in a way we could understand. He even drew pictures! It was so helpful....he presented my best case scenario and did not hide the pros and cons.
[The nurses at Piedmont Reproductive Endocrinology Group are] very nice. One of them talked to me a little too much about her personal experience with pregnancy issues. In her situation she ended up pregnant. This was upsetting since I am not sure if I will ever get pregnant and here is a nurse trying to tell me that 'it will happen' since it happened for her... their financial counselor provided us with all the alternative options...Clean office!!!!! Polite, friendly and accommodating staff. They also have that new procedure called invo science.

[Dr. Edward Tarnawa] He explained everything very well and he advocates for his patients. He made me feel at ease and made my partner feel included and comfortable. I didn’t feel rushed at all, which I appreciated. I also felt like he was very upfront about risks and didn’t sugar coat anything...IVF was recommended for us due to infertility factors on both sides.

Success w/ Doc Too early to know
[Dr. Edward Tarnawa] talked to my previous doctors, studied my case with his colleges and researched for alternatives as I do not have health insurance. I have seen Doctor T for almost two months now and he put me in a different treatment plan which significantly reduced my pain, reduced the size of my cyst...is a very compassionate person, he goes far and beyond in order to better my quality of life...
Although I am bilingual and I don't need an interpreter they have staff [at Piedmont Reproductive Endocrinology Group] that speak Spanish fluently and I know that for someone that is dealing with infertility is very important to speak with a nurse who would understand you completely...My nurse is always helpful, she answers all my questions and is available when I need her.
How was your experience with Edward Tarnawa at Piedmont Reproductive Endocrinology Group?
I cannot express my gratitude with Dr. T, in almost 15 years I have never feel, the way I feel now. I have been complaining about my pain since 2010, every OBGYN that I have seen was telling me that my pain was normal, that it will go away once I have children and prescribed me strong pain killers that made me feel worse and because they were so addictive I refused to take them. In 2019, I had surgery as I had a cyst the size of a grapefruit, the endometriosis and the cyst completely damaged my left ovary and my left Fallopian tube and I had them removed. I thought that with surgery the pain was going to get away and my chances to get pregnant was going to be higher but the endometriosis came back and another cyst developed in less than 7 months. There has been many times that I have asked God to please take my life as the pain was unbearably, I was taking around 9-12 OTC pills a day in order to manage my pain. My previous doctor prescribed me a very aggressive treatment with horrendous side effects. That's why I decided to look for a second opinion and that's how I came across with Dr. T. Before putting me in treatment Dr. T. took the time to read all my medical records, please keep in mind that I have dealing with pain and doctors half of my life so the records were extensive. Dr. T talked to my previous doctors, studied my case with his colleges and researched for alternatives as I do not have health insurance. I have seen Doctor T for almost two months now and he put me in a different treatment plan which significantly reduced my pain, reduced the size of my cyst, last month I just had to take 1 pill instead of 12 and I feel amazing! My previous doctors made me feel like I was on my own, I am looking forward to continue treatment with Dr. T and hopefully become a mother soon.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Edward Tarnawa at Piedmont Reproductive Endocrinology Group?
Please trust him he really knows what he is doing!
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Edward Tarnawa at Piedmont Reproductive Endocrinology Group?
I have been dealing with endo pain since I was 17 years old and I am 31 years old now. Dr. T is a very compassionate person, he goes far and beyond in order to better my quality of life, I have never been treated by a doctor that cares so much for a patient like he is.
Describe the protocols Edward Tarnawa used in your cycles at Piedmont Reproductive Endocrinology Group and their degree of success.
Dr. T prescribed me Orillisa 150m for a month and I am now in a higher dose. My pain is not completely gone away but in one month has reduced significantly.

My nurse is always helpful, she answers all my questions and is available when I need her.
Describe your experience with Piedmont Reproductive Endocrinology Group.
I love that the clinic is near me, like the clinic I was previous seen I had to travel to other city in order to have more tests done. Although I am bilingual and I don't need an interpreter they have staff that speak Spanish fluently and I know that for someone that is dealing with infertility is very important to speak with a nurse who would understand you completely. Is very hard to find a fertility clinic in South Carolina where they have staff that Speak Spanish.
Describe Edward Tarnawa's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Piedmont Reproductive Endocrinology Group.
According to his experience he prefers single embryo transfer for me.

The wait time for you appointment is really long. The office seems to over book. They are always running behind. I have waited almost 2 hours for a 15 minute appointment. I was suppose to have a ultrasound done at one of my appointments but they only had me down for blood work. I told the nurse and after confirming it with the doctor I had my ultrasound but the nurses made me feel like I was dumb and did not know what I was talking about.
