Dr. Wilcox is straight to the point and gets amazing results. While we didn't have our hands held along the way, we always felt like we were in good hands under his direction. I wish we had a bit more interaction with him but have had amazing results to date. ... If you want someone to dry your tears or hold your hand along the way, I would recommend a different doctor. But you have the trust him, as he gets amazing results and his support staff is wonderful.
While the clinic [HRC] was always packed with patients and families, I never had to wait very long. The finance department was very easy to work with. The facility was very nice, clean and comfortable. ... All the coordinators we worked with were wonderful. All emails and phone calls were returned within a few hours, all questions were answered and next steps were always explained. I also really loved the nurse practitioner.
How was your experience with John Wilcox at HRC Fertility?
Dr. Wilcox is straight to the point and gets amazing results. While we didn't have our hands held along the way, we always felt like we were in good hands under his direction. I wish we had a bit more interaction with him but have had amazing results to date. Of the 34 eggs retrieved, we had 11 come back healthy post PGS testing.

During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with John Wilcox at HRC Fertility?
Didn't have much interaction with the Dr. after our consultation... we communicated with the nursing staff, who are all amazing!
Describe the protocols John Wilcox used in your cycles at HRC Fertility and their degree of success.
We started with IUI, as it is much cheaper and an easy process. He said to try IUI 4-5 times but we could move forward with IVF whenever we wanted. We had two failed IUI's with clomid and then switched to IVF. The injectables we used were Follistim, low dose HCG Pregnyl, Ganirelix Acetate and Doxycycline. I had an incredible response... 34 eggs retrieved, 30 were ICSIED by the sperm and 25 were normally fertilized. We had 16 get to the blastacyst stage and 11 were genetically normal after the PGS testing. We are waiting to do the first transfer, as we have some upcoming travel and Wilcox recommends to not fly until 6 weeks pregnant.

Describe John Wilcox's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at HRC Fertility.
Because I am still pretty young (30), Dr. Wilcox recommends single embryo transfer, which is what my husband and I prefer.

Dr. Wilcox is extremely busy and it seems like he uses a similar ivf protocol for many patients. However, my egg retrieval progressed just as he had predicted without OHSS which was one of my biggest worries. While he is quick in and out, his team will definitely take time to answer questions if needed.... Dr. Wilcox is very capable and confident and has an impressive track record. Everything he told me to expect has happened during treatment (ie number of follicles to expect, predicted date of egg retrieval, etc). I trust that he will always prescribe the right protocol for me.
My issue is with the Financials team at the clinic. Twice they [HRC] said I did not sign something and then later found that I did. Also prior to starting any phase of the cycle, I ask them to provide a breakdown in costs. Each time I have to send one or two follow up emails before they respond.... The facility is very nice but extremely busy. If you have an appointment after 9am, prepare to walk into a full waiting room. I literally had nowhere to sit a few times. That said, the clinic is clean and well equipped.
How was your experience with John Wilcox at HRC Fertility?
Dr. Wilcox is very capable and confident and has an impressive track record. Everything he told me to expect has happened during treatment (ie number of follicles to expect, predicted date of egg retrieval, etc). I trust that he will always prescribe the right protocol for me. However, I do wish he had more time to spend with his patients. Aside from our initial consultation, each appointment has lasted no more than 10 min and then he is rushing off to the next patient. I know this doesn’t compromise the level of care I’m receiving. Whether it results in a BFP for us, we will see in a few weeks once we transfer.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of John Wilcox at HRC Fertility?
Have a list of questions that you want to ask ready to go at each appt.

Nanette is great at explaining the process every step of the way. She responds quickly to emails and definitely provided a lot of peace of mind throughout. When she is out of office, her backup Ana is amazing too. They definitely go above and beyond!

Dr Wilcox seems really good at what he does. We are MFI with seemingly no issues on my end so our treatment was pretty straightforward...What concerned me a little with Dr Wilcox is his willingness to put in two embryos. We are non-PGS tested and only want to transfer one. I thought standard of care is to transfer one embryo and most people have to make a good case to their doctor to transfer two...He never seemed like he was in a rush to move onto the next patient.
It does SEEM like the clinic [HRC - Pasadena] is all about the numbers since the waiting room is usually packed (and packed with overseas patients). But, the level of care is better than what I experienced at another practice in Beverly Hills. I love not having to call and prod the nurses for information. They respond to emails fairly quickly and they're very patient. Free parking is really great too...They're all very responsive and easy to talk to. They call when they say they will.
How was your experience with John Wilcox at HRC Fertility?
Dr Wilcox seems really good at what he does. We are MFI with seemingly no issues on my end so our treatment was pretty straightforward. A coworker also goes to the same practice but saw a different doctor and her protocol didn't produce quality eggs (I recognize there are many factors that contribute to this). The difference I noticed in our treatment was that Wilcox had me on ubiquinol whereas her doctor didn't even mention it. What concerned me a little with Dr Wilcox is his willingness to put in two embryos. We are non-PGS tested and only want to transfer one. I thought standard of care is to transfer one embryo and most people have to make a good case to their doctor to transfer two.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of John Wilcox at HRC Fertility?
Don't be shy and ask questions. Doctors won't offer up information without being prompted.

Describe the costs associated with your care under John Wilcox at HRC Fertility.
We are insurance patients so our insurance covers 50%. IVF fresh transfer cycle with ICSI, assisted hatching, embryo freezing, & surgery center fees was $7,080. FET is $2,100.
Describe John Wilcox's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at HRC Fertility.
For non-PGS tested embryos, Wilcox prefers to transfer two.

If you are looking for more time to talk, more emotional guidance and more hand holding he [Dr. John Wilcox] wouldn’t be the best doctor for that. But I wasn’t looking for that. I want someone experienced, educated and successful at his job. He is professional, polite, precise, efficient...is very clinical, straight forward, factual. There is no time for hand holding. But it’s appreciated on my end because he is focused and precise.
Wonderful experience [at HRC Fertility] on so many levels. This may seem like small details but convenient free parking was a treat. It made visits quick and easy. Most LA facilities don’t have that. Appointments were well scheduled so there were not long wait times. I was mid cycle during the Covid crisis and they immediately took measures to best protect patients and the clinical team. It was very impressive, efficient and well organized.

You have the whole HRC team to consult with. Each can offer different help and support. Don’t expect everything from your doctor. Use your time with the nurses if you need more support.

[Dr. John Wilcox] gave us a practical assessment given our current factors. He was blunt to provide the general reality of the situation. Overall, Chris was a very practical doctor giving the straight facts of the situation. Very cordial while being very trustworthy. He provided us with the right information we needed to move forward with our first cycle. We look forward to see where our results will go as we move forward after the Covid quarantine.

Describe the protocols John Wilcox used in your cycles at HRC Fertility and their degree of success.
Our IVF process so far has been only the egg retrieval and embryo creation of our first cycle. The process consisted of several ultrasounds and blood tests. In terms of hormones, clomid, omnitrope, and gonal were used.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at HRC Fertility.
Very well versed in the field. One was new, but was being trained by a nurse that we had been working with. Very helpful.

Very warm and welcoming clinic entrance. Generally low stress in environment. Very nice lobby and exam rooms. Administration and actual procedure rooms were isolated away. However, those rooms did look appropriate for their function.
Describe your experience with your monitoring appointments at HRC Fertility.
It was a generally oiled machine. A lot of it depended on time of day. If it was critical that a doctor needed to co duct the ultrasound, then they scheduled for mornings. Otherwise, it was scheduled at any part of the day with a nurse practitioner to assist. Kept the wait times rather low. However, there was more traffic in the mornings there.
Describe the costs associated with your care under John Wilcox at HRC Fertility.
So far, the costs for service and egg retrieval have been around $11,000 with the inclusion of our insurance.
Describe John Wilcox's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at HRC Fertility.
