Success w/ Doc Too early to know
Dr. Lin did your initial consultation and planned our treatment but the most contact we had was with her PA. The PA managed my medicated IUI, all the way from initial ultrasounds to the actual procedure. I saw Dr. Lin again at the end of our appointment where they confirmed my miscarriage. ... Letrozole IUI. She was most concerned with borderline PCOS and my Hashimoto's.
Billing [at Sound Fertility Care] is very transparent and the biller is helpful. Scheduling is also very easy but they run behind schedule frequently. The portal is clunky and not super user-friendly, but response times are good. ... IUI for us as cash patients was about $1,100. Medication was separate and through Kaiser it cost us another $300. ... There were other instances when we were talking about my history and the PA referenced incorrect information. It made me feel like I constantly needed to verify the info I was given.

What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Kat Lin at Sound Fertility Care?
Expect to work more with the PA than Dr. Lin.
Describe the protocols Kat Lin used in your cycles at Sound Fertility Care and their degree of success.
Letrozole IUI. She was most concerned with borderline PCOS and my Hashimoto's.
Describe your experience with your nurse at Sound Fertility Care. (Assigned nurse: Paulinna)
Paulinna is Dr. Lin's PA and our main contact throughout our treatment. She was very helpful, but sometimes didn't know the details of my history or the actual protocol I was on.

Describe the specific things that went wrong at Sound Fertility Care.
The PA was answering questions we had about our treatment protocol, but was referencing Clomid when Dr. Lin had prescribed letrozole. There were other instances when we were talking about my history and the PA referenced incorrect information. It made me feel like I constantly needed to verify the info I was given.

Dr. Lin is a caring and compassionate physician. She is very dedicated to her job, treats her patients with respect and is an overall genuine person. Since her practice has grown, you will see her PA instead of Dr. Lin. Nothing against her PA because she is great…however, it would have been nice to see more of Dr. Lin at the in clinic appointments.
The [Sound Fertility Care] clinic overall I think has become too large and is missing the individualized care it once had. Medical records requests take over 2 weeks to have transferred to an OB...The in clinic nursing staff was always super helpful and caring...As the process progressed, my voicemails/emails were never returned

Be sure to ask questions and verify your treatment plan along with medications. I paid out of pocket for IVF treatment and all medications. A few medications I was told to purchase were never used or only used once. Lost nearly $3,000 on medication I didn’t need or wasn’t incorporated into my treatment plan (as it should have been).
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Kat Lin at Sound Fertility Care?
There were many appointments where I felt rushed so they could bring in the next patient from the very busy lobby.
Describe your experience with your nurse at Sound Fertility Care.
In the beginning, the nurse coordinator was wonderful at returning voicemails/emails, etc. As the process progressed, my voicemails/emails were never returned. She screwed up by not adding one medication I was told to purchase to my flowsheet. Long story short, I spent almost $2,000 out of pocket on a medication I was supposed to use a week+ and only ended up using it one time. At times, the process felt super disorganized and perhaps she had too many patients to deal with.
Describe your experience with Sound Fertility Care.
The clinic overall I think has become too large and is missing the individualized care it once had. Medical records requests take over 2 weeks to have transferred to an OB. Once you have an idea as to when you will be discharged from Sound Fertility, be sure to request records ASAP. In this day and age, 2 weeks seems a little extreme when it comes to sending records to another clinic. The in clinic nursing staff was always super helpful and caring.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Kat Lin at Sound Fertility Care.
A cost sheet is provided at the beginning of the IVF process. Unfortunately, they don’t include the additional costs that are ultimately hidden. As well as additional testing or possible procedures that aren’t covered by insurance.
What specific things went wrong at Sound Fertility Care?
  • Failed to call in prescriptions to pharmacy
  • Lost paperwork
  • Failed to call with results
  • Failed to order appropriate test
  • Failed to inform you of changes in protocol
  • Provided conflicting information
  • Failed to convey critical information
  • Lost or damaged samples
Describe the specific things that went wrong at Sound Fertility Care.
A specific medication that was supposed to be used during my protocol (on a certain day(s)) was only administered once vs the 5-7 days it was supposed to be used. An error from a coordinator, by not putting on flow sheet or advising Dr. Lin that I had the medication. Only by me asking the Dr. as to when I’m supposed to use the medication is why I was able to get one dose out of a very expensive out of pocket cost medication.
