[Dr. Farah-Eways] was so kind but also very honest...She is responsive to emails when I or my husband are unclear about anything happening with our treatment. When having to end our cycle she was comforting but also truthful in telling us she didn’t think the meds were working like they should and to save emotions and also money, we should stop at this point, change some things and start again
Staff [at Kaiser Permanente NorCal] is wonderful, kind and friendly. They are responsive Easy location to get to Saturday clinic is done by a different physician then my primary and I don’t believe she is as kind as my doctor. She changed my meds and she referred me to a pharmacy that was triple the cost of where Lisa sent me...This was all at the Fremont location as the Santa Clara one is not open on Saturdays.
How was your experience with Lisa Farah-Eways at Kaiser Permanente NorCal?
She is very honest and also has a great bedside manner. She is able to explain the situation, what to expect etc. she also follows up with emails and she is very responsive. I appreciate her positive outlook and her urge to get it right so that we can become parents.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Lisa Farah-Eways at Kaiser Permanente NorCal?
Expect honesty and being a pen and notepad. Getting all this information is tough and when you walk out sometimes you forget what was said. I print the messages sent to me because I like to keep all the information in the folders they provide and bring everything to all visits so you can be prepared ask questions and follow up on things you don’t understand.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Lisa Farah-Eways at Kaiser Permanente NorCal?
My doctor was so kind but also very honest. She explained she works hard with every patient and that she wants to “play to win” she takes the upmost care and shares the correct information. She is responsive to emails when I or my husband are unclear about anything happening with our treatment. When having to end our cycle she was comforting but also truthful in telling us she didn’t think the meds were working like they should and to save emotions and also money, we should stop at this point, change some things and start again.
Describe the protocols Lisa Farah-Eways used in your cycles at Kaiser Permanente NorCal and their degree of success.
I was on an antagonist protocol and will continue to be on one when I can restart. I also was told to go gluten, dairy, soy and sugar free. This has been tough but I am working hard to do so (although in quarantine it has been hard). This diet she said helps reduce inflammation and she stated even though there isn’t evidence that will totally increase my chances, it can’t hurt. (I am pretty heavy so it’ll also help me lose weight which is good). I am also on many supplements CoQ10 Vitamin D Probiotics Prenatals Myoinositol
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at Kaiser Permanente NorCal.
Friendly, kind and informative. They are who usually calls and even though it is different nurses they all seem to understand the emotional support and information all patients will need through each process.

She changed my meds and she referred me to a pharmacy that was triple the cost of where Lisa sent me. After my visit with her I didn’t feel comfortable-it took way to long to get started even though I was on time (I understand there is always some delay). She didn’t have the bedside manner I would’ve preferred and at my next visit with my primary is when my cycle was cancelled. :-/. This was all at the Fremont location as the Santa Clara one is not open on Saturdays.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Lisa Farah-Eways at Kaiser Permanente NorCal.
Approximately $14,000 But this didn’t include any of the appointments or testing done before which was probably close to $3000 between my husband and myself.
Describe Lisa Farah-Eways's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Kaiser Permanente NorCal.
I agree with why they do it the way it is set up but I am concerned the longer we wait (quarantine being the delay) the older my eggs get and the older I get. I wish to have more than one kid and I’m concerned this could hurt my chances. Also I am worried about it not working and I don’t have the financial resources to do another cycle.

[Dr. Farah-Eways] was firstly extremely professional, she was generally nice, and she seemed extremely savvy about her work...even though she was a little cool in demeanor, I loved her work and was here to get results, not socialize. I don't want to create the impression she was cold, not at all, but she seems like an extremely solid and knowledgeable individual who is deeply experienced
The reception staff [at Kaiser Permanente NorCal] are pretty nice and pretty quick on everything...I was seen by several people besides [Dr. Farah-Eways] for various tasks and then Dr. Tan did my retrieval. It did take 3 different staff to run my IV...I just felt a bit passed around a couple times when they were busy juggling tasks...with good results, and lots of professionalism, I highly recommend them
How was your experience with Lisa Farah-Eways at Kaiser Permanente NorCal?
Lisa was my OB/GYN's mentor so I had good expectations. She was firstly extremely professional, she was generally nice, and she seemed extremely savvy about her work. I don't expect women to smile and mother me, so even though she was a little cool in demeanor, I loved her work and was here to get results, not socialize. I don't want to create the impression she was cold, not at all, but she seems like an extremely solid and knowledgeable individual who is deeply experienced. We can all benefit from having someone like that in our corner.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Lisa Farah-Eways at Kaiser Permanente NorCal?
Just trust her, bring her your questions and concerns. Also, if anything seems to be a problem, call until you get through to her or the staff. I was instructed by an answering service to wait until late in the day to call back, but it was the wrong advice, as that was the time the IVF office closed and I could no longer be helped until the next day.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Lisa Farah-Eways at Kaiser Permanente NorCal?
I just felt a bit passed around a couple times when they were busy juggling tasks, but just a tad. I just want to be honest so people don't go in expecting a major spa experience... but it was just the right balance of calm and professionalism that suits the work in my opinion.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at Kaiser Permanente NorCal.
Everyone did a good job, not a lot to say when everything works out well!
Describe your experience with Kaiser Permanente NorCal.
From the first meeting, I had a great informational/teaching class with a really nice/funny/warm staff member. The reception staff are pretty nice and pretty quick on everything. Behind the scenes I was getting juggled in the first day and had to wait an unspecified amount of time for further instructions and planning before leaving, but I didn't mind. I was seen by several people besides Lisa for various tasks and then Dr. Tan did my retrieval. It did take 3 different staff to run my IV... not comfortable, but it finally worked out. Again, with good results, and lots of professionalism, I highly recommend them.

It always felt like Dr. Eways went above and beyond and she truly cared. Never having done this before (but consulted and almost started the process with another clinic) she made us feel safe and explained every step and process and was candid. It didn't feel like I was speaking to someone who was reading a process or procedure out of a book (as with my previous experience), she actually made sure that we understood exactly what was happening, what she was doing, what to expect and what to consider and like we were people with feelings and emotions to consider trying to grow their family and not a next number in line. She was always honest and didn't sugar coat anything which I really appreciated because the process itself can be very stressful so to know exactly what to expect was reassuring. She was always gentle and caring and honest in her approach and when she met with my husband and I, we felt like we were the only patients she had as she never rushed any of our meetings. She treated both of us as a couple and was inclusive with conversation making sure we were both comfortable with next steps and what to expect. The nurses [at Kaiser Permanente NorCal] had great communication and reached out after visits where something new was happening to make sure that we were all set...The location was convenient to visit Dr. Eways in Sunnyvale, have blood drawn in Santa Clara and even at times go to Fremont. I knew what to expect from the beginning so planned accordingly and no complaints...The medication was very straight forward and I was given a calendar with a breakdown of what to take and when and Dr. Eways reviewed it in addition to her staff following up to make sure that there weren't any questions. The pills were easy and when it came time for the shots, it wasn't bad at all and I was able to administer them myself without any issues. There was also blood work along the ways to readjust the amount of medication to take based on how your body was responding so constant check up along the way.

She truly has redefined the way patients need to be handled and treated because her ability to make you feel safe and to build an immediate trust connection (regardless of outcome) is unmatched. We've been SO LUCKY to have had the opportunity to work with Dr. Eways and if we decided to do this again, no doubt in my mind as to who I would be calling. She's been an angel in our lives!
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Lisa Farah-Eways at Kaiser Permanente NorCal?
Keep an open mind and trust the process. Don't stress :)
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Lisa Farah-Eways at Kaiser Permanente NorCal?
Dr. Eways was very knowledgeable and empathetic when working with my husband and I. She always checked for understanding and made sure that we didn't have any additional questions and never made us feel rushed. We felt safe and secure asking questions and looking for guidance. She was very positive and never over-promised but feels like she always over-delivered. Her follow up and care was AMAZING!!

Dr. Eways educated me on options and we talked about transferring one embryo if genetically normal or 2 untested embryos.

You might find her [Dr. Farah-Eways] personality at times rigid because she is a perfectionist but her main goal is to get you pregnant and have a healthy baby, so you just have to trust her. ... To get my lining thick enough she recommended acupuncture and she was also OK with me taking the tincture they prescribed. She also adjusted my meds taking me off the estrogen patch and instead having me take it as oral pill and vaginally.
The only thing I can think of is that it takes a long time to get in [to Kaiser Permanente Sunnyvale]. ... From my understanding Kaiser does single embryo transfer and there are some criteria but if it’s not successful then it’s like a buy 1 get 2 free...like 3 tries for price if one. ... I don’t have any specific memory of the nursing staff but they were all great
How was your experience with Lisa Farah-Eways at Kaiser Permanente NorCal?
She was incredible and while it was a very long process, we trusted her and she told us more than once she “plays to win”...she is quite the perfectionist, but we appreciated her for that. I was supposed to have a fresh transfer March 2017 but my lining didn’t get thick enough, so she cancelled and had me wait to do a frozen transfer until August. All summer she was trying different medication combos to get my lining thick enough...the August date even got changed a few times and I don’t think my lining got to highest she would’ve liked it to, but she felt good about it and gave us the green light. I highly recommend her. I also remember when we had our initial consultation, that evening she called me just to check in on me. She is extemely responsive as well.

Describe the protocols Lisa Farah-Eways used in your cycles at Kaiser Permanente NorCal and their degree of success.
To get my lining thick enough she recommended acupuncture and she was also OK with me taking the tincture they prescribed. She also adjusted my meds taking me off the estrogen patch and instead having me take it as oral pill and vaginally. Towards the end we ended up adding baby aspirin and eventually vaginal viagra. She also had me on terbutaline to prevent uterine contraction and gave me stronger dose of Valium the morning of transfer. I have a heathy 11 month old :)
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at Kaiser Permanente NorCal.
I don’t have any specific memory of the nursing staff but they were all great
Describe your experience with Kaiser Permanente NorCal.
The only thing I can think of is that it takes a long time to get in. For example I called mid March for a phone consult to discuss our next transfer and Dr. Eways is booked until beginning of May just for a phone consult. So you need to get things started early, she’s popular and has a large patient load.
Describe Lisa Farah-Eways's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Kaiser Permanente NorCal.
From my understanding Kaiser does single embryo transfer and there are some criteria but if it’s not successful then it’s like a buy 1 get 2 free...like 3 tries for price if one. But ours ended up being successful on first try.

Dr. Eways sufficiently explained to me the trade-offs and risks of transferring multiple embryos. Her approach is very much in-line with the medical guidelines and recommendations...attends to the technical and human sides of undergoing fertility treatments. She helps you create a plan and executes it, but also acknowledges the grief cycle that accompanies infertilty...stuck through thick and thin with me. As a patient with a thin uterine lining and diminished ovarian reserve (.16 AMH), I had an uphill battle! In my experience, Dr. Eways was always very straight-forward with me about treatment plans, but never gave up, and always helped me determine my next game plan using data, experience, and the latest research. She also has a wonderful and warm bed-side manner. She would personally call me with updates or to follow-up.
They [Kaiser Permanente NorCal] generally seem to be really impacted and there are long wait times to be assigned a treatment cycle time! I also feel like each doctor has a huge caseload. But outside of these factors, I truly believe I was given great care and treatment at Kaiser. I also think it's important to be your own advocate in this process and find the doctor within the practice and Kaiser that is a good fit for you. My doctor was always easy to communicate with, always made decisions based on research, and often also conducted her own research if I had a question....I thought monitoring appointments were ok [at Kaiser]. They were scheduled within a window of time in the morning. You were given an appointment time, but they generally saw you on a first come first served basis...There is a financial advisor that works with patients around the costs associated with treatments...

If you want someone that is transparent and blunt, yet extremely caring, Dr. Eways will be a great fit for you! She is also very persistent. I had a very long journey, but never once did I feel she gave up on me. Meaning, she would really think about what testing and/or adjustments were needed for the next plan of action each time.

Dr. Eways sufficiently explained to me the trade-offs and risks of transferring multiple embryos. Her approach is very much in-line with the medical guidelines and recommendations. She does a thorough job of explaining her reasoning behind her approach to eSET. Generally speaking, she recommended only transferring one embryo per cycle because we used donor eggs and my embryos were pgs-tested, but there were times where she was open to transferring two.

Dr. Eways is very professional and personable. She takes the time to explain everything in detail. I did not feel like she was rushing me out to get to her next appointment. I have my first fresh cycle IVF planned for next month. She did a hysteroscopy to remove a polyp 2 months ago, which went smoothly. She made me feel safe and taken care of. Great bedside manner. My only criticism is that I had a phone appointment schedule with her once and she called me 40 minutes after our scheduled time. In her message, she stated that she usually calls within 2 hours of the scheduled time.
All of the nurses [Kaiser Permanente NorCal- Sunnyvale] I encountered were very helpful, professional, and knowledgeable. One of them even went out of her way to ensure I got a call back from the Fremont clinic, and followed up with me later.... The doctors always seem to be running behind. I would plan on being there longer than you expect. If you are not meeting with a doctor, the appointments are much more timely. The staff is friendly and helpful. The clinic is clean and has up to date technology.

She is great, but her schedule is packed and you have to wait several months for treatments.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Lisa Farah-Eways at Kaiser Permanente NorCal?
Dr. Eways is very warm and welcoming. She takes time to build rapport with her patients. I felt like she was an old friend I was catching up with by the end of our first meeting.

About $500 for HSG, about $1000 for Hysteroscopy, $13,200 to book fresh cycle IVF

She [Dr. Farah-Eways] is very straight forward and gets the job done. She is very through andnis great at her job. We were very confident with her decisions and my treatment. If she felt something wasn’t right, she would adjust my protocol.... She is from the East Coast and she can talk a bit fast but we are used to that dialect being from the East Coast. People have mentioned on this page she multi-task and isn’t paying attention. I am going to say false. She is dictating notes and things that she needs you to do or she’ll email another doctor that’s treating you for something separate. She partners with your doctors to make sure you will have a healthy and successful pregnancy if successful.
Be patient. It’s a long process and doctors are booked up far in advance. Come ready with lot of questions for the doctors and nurses. They [Kaiser Permanente NorCal] are a very caring and loving team. They made you feel comfortable being there and were compassionate. It’s a stressful and tiring process that they understand.... [Nursing Staff] All were great and love them.... My husband and I were very comfortable with her and made us feel welcome when we had appointments.

From our consult on she [Dr. Lisa Farrah-Eways] was very proactive in giving me plans for improve my egg quality before starting our IVF cycle, as to get the best result. She took my total of 2 produced eggs and created a positive pregnancy out one of them. I am so fortunate that my previous RE [Dr. Thomas Kulterman] highly recommended her and sent me her way.
The clinic [Kaiser Permanente in Sunnyvale] is very well organized. Everyone has a specific job and knows how to do it well...$10,000 for fresh IVF cycle, $2,500 for ICSI procedure. $5,000 for medications at outside pharmacy....During my first monitoring appointment I started to cry when my ovaries weren't reacting to the drugs the way she [Dr Lisa Farrah-Eways] wanted them to. She gave me a hug, and at the end of each appointment after that she would look me in the eye and tell me "You're doing a great job."

Describe the protocols Lisa Farah-Eways used in your cycles at Kaiser Permanente NorCal and their degree of success.
She had me on CoQ10 and DHEA for 2-3 months before starting our medicated cycle, and also had me start acupuncture to improve blood flow to my ovaries during that time (continued through retrieval and transfer). I was on Lupron for 12 days, and Follistim and Menopur for 10 days before retrieval. The Menopur dosage was increased about 4 to 5 days in while the other two stayed constant the whole cycle. I had 3 follicles during the cycle, only 2 produced eggs and both were mature. Both fertilized but only one made it to Day 5 transfer.

Dr Eways was very warm and kind and took a real interest in our success to become parents. She was always available via email and when we had visits she would give me a hug which made the process seem less clinical and more personal. She had a good bedside manner which we hadn't found in prior doctors.
