How was your experience with Lucky Sekhon at RMA of New York?
I really appreciated Dr. Sekhon's approach and bedside manner. She was open and honest with the science and statistics behind egg freezing, while being supportive. I appreciated that she had also undergone egg retrieval and knew what the patient experiences first hand. It felt that she really had the same goals and I couldn't be happier with choosing to go with her and RMA for my fertility needs.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Lucky Sekhon at RMA of New York?
Feel free to research and come with questions, Dr. Sekhon is incredibly knowledgable and approaches the process in an easy to understand manner.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Lucky Sekhon at RMA of New York?
The process and team at RMA was extremely welcoming and made my experience of egg freezing very positive. They were detailed in their outreach and feedback and answered questions promptly. I was able to choose locations as benefitted my schedule and given a realistic outlook of what the treatment and procedure was like. I appreciated the wide variety of resources they also provided (learning modules, zoom intros, and dedicated fertility coordinator) who all helped to make this an efficient experience.
Describe the protocols Lucky Sekhon used in your cycles at RMA of New York and their degree of success.
I feel like my treatment was fairly standard for egg freezing. I started on Follistem (AM injection) and Menopur (PM injection, but by mid-treatment my Follistem injection amount was brought down, but Menopur increased to two vials. Then I started on the Cetrotide for 4 days before the trigger shot. Due to my higher estrogen levels, I only received the Lupron shot and not the Pregnyl as well. Dr. Sekhon also mentioned that she had me wait one extra day to be sure that the eggs most eggs would mature and could be retrieved successfully.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at RMA of New York.
Nurses were efficient and knowledgable. On my first appointment they explained the steps and were very compassionate and encouraging. I can only imagine how many patients they see every day and they were always nice and friendly. They were attentive to the bruises I sometimes got for blood work and were efficient in their work.
Describe your experience with RMA of New York.
RMA of NY was a large clinic and had multiple doctors and staff caring for individuals on their fertility journey. Scheduling for a consult was booked up and took time to meet with them, but I believe that is a testament to the results they're able to get for their patients. The finance coordinator helped address my insurance issues, and they also helped me secure additional discounts for my medication that was not covered by insurance. I would recommend that patients understand there are multiple individuals also at the same clinic, but that they do care and to have patience, but follow up if needed, they're here to help!
Describe the costs associated with your care under Lucky Sekhon at RMA of New York.
My insurance covered the consult and the treatment, but RX was out of pocket.

Doctor Sekhon was incredibly patient, knowledgeable, and personable when I met with her...I did not mind that other doctors at RMA performed my scans, as Doctor Sekhon had assured me (and very credibly) that she herself reviewed all the information gathered at each scan and adjusted the course of treatment as needed...extremely warm and personable, answered all of my questions, and expressed interest in how I was doing following the retrieval procedures...
RMA is run with military-levels efficiency. Generally speaking my scan appointments started within 5-10 minutes of the appointment timeslot, which is in my view impressive for a doctor's office. They also followed up with me consistently, and sent detailed notes after each visit regarding my medications via email...Carlie [nurse] was a lifeline during this process! How was your experience with Lucky Sekhon at RMA of New York?
Doctor Sekhon was incredibly patient, knowledgeable, and personable when I met with her. She encouraged me to try to schedule my scans during times when she was scanning, and though it never happened to work out with my schedule, I appreciated that she was trying to see me, her patient. I did not mind that other doctors at RMA performed my scans, as Doctor Sekhon had assured me (and very credibly) that she herself reviewed all the information gathered at each scan and adjusted the course of treatment as needed.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Lucky Sekhon at RMA of New York?
Just know going into this process that your doctor is unlikely to be the person doing each and every scan - of which you will have many during an egg retrieval cycle - and that is OK. This is probably true of many fertility clinics and should not alarm you. With respect to Doctor Sekhon in particular, know that even if another doctor performed your scan, she personally reviews all the information from that scan and is responsible for your treatment! She works hard, and reviewed each and every one of my scans, even on vacation.

Describe the protocols Lucky Sekhon used in your cycles at RMA of New York and their degree of success.
I used Gonal F in the mornings, Menopur at night, with doses that were adjusted throughout the cycle. She also recommended that I stop taking Spironolactone, which I was one for acne, a few weeks prior to commencing treatment.
Describe your experience with your nurse at RMA of New York. (Assigned nurse: Carlie Wiseman)
Carlie was a lifeline during this process! She was so warm and responsive, she really put me at ease.

About $10k for the scans and procedure (each time). Medications were covered by my insurance but if uninsured would have run about $6-8k (each time).

From the beginning, she [Dr. Lucky Sekhon] was hopeful and honest with us about our chances and set clear expectations. She also recommended that before we move forward with any more transfers, I should consider removing my left tube (which was dilated and could be causing issues) which I did. She recommended a great surgeon which made the process easy.
RMA NY is a well-oiled machine. They are very well organized and have a seamless process in place to ensure your experience is good. I never had to wait more than 30 minutes for morning monitoring and they always tried to move everyone through as quickly as possible without feeling rushed. The staff is kind and understanding...Dr. Sekhon was kind and empathic throughout the entire process. You felt like you were speaking to a trusted friend who genuinely cared.
How was your experience with Lucky Sekhon at RMA of New York?
We came to Dr. Sekhon after nearly five years of trying to get pregnant. We had tried everything and even went through a known donor cycle with one of my good friends, resulting in only one embryo, which failed to implant. We were worn out and losing hope. We decided to move forward with an anonymous donor cycle at RMA in NY and were recommended to work with Dr. Sekhon. From the beginning, she was hopeful and honest with us about our chances and set clear expectations. She also recommended that before we move forward with any more transfers, I should consider removing my left tube (which was dilated and could be causing issues) which I did. She recommended a great surgeon which made the process easy. We were quickly matched with a donor that we loved, went through the cycle, and were thrilled to find out that we had 12 normal embryos! After years and years of bad news, we were very excited about the outcome. Once I was healed from my tube removal surgery, we decided to do the first transfer. The process was smooth and straightforward. I saw and spoke to Dr. Sekhon several times, and she was always encouraging and kind. We found out this first transfer worked and we are about ten weeks pregnant. We graduated from the fertility clinic last week and moved on to our regular OB. We are so thankful for our experience with Dr. Sekhon and how everything played out. I would highly recommend her to anyone going through this difficult time.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Lucky Sekhon at RMA of New York?

I had done a ERA test prior to coming to this clinic, so we had the results to go off of for my transfer at RMA NY with Dr. S. I was prescribes estradiol 3X day which continued through week 9 of my pregnancy when I started to wean off (2x day) and then completely stopped. I was also taking 1ml of progesterone in oil (also weaned off and stopped around 9 weeks) and I took an antibiotic pill around the time of the transfer.

We were out of insurance $ so we had to pay out of pocket for our donor cycle. It was actually about 10K more expensive at RMA NY than RMA NJ. In total, we spend about 50K

Unfortunately my care coorsinator changed 3 times. They were all nice and responsive. My latest care coordinator Carlie was the most amazing, responsive and compassionate person, it was a pleasure to work with her and she was my point of support during my last cycle and transfer (successful).
Describe your experience with RMA of New York.
Strenghts: extremely organized, convenient monitoring hours, very responsive and acomodative personal, amazing patient portal. Weakness: too many patients makes it less personal. Try not to get too sensitive about being in a baby factory.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Lucky Sekhon at RMA of New York.
My insurance had fertility covered so I paid for: Icsi:3000 Anesthesia for egg retrieval: 950 Pgt testing: 150 per embryo
Describe Lucky Sekhon's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at RMA of New York.
At my age, only single embryo transfer is offered.

Describe the specific things that went wrong at RMA of New York.
My genetic screening blood sample disappeared. We only realized after 2 weeks when my husband’s results came back but not mine. The second fertility coordinator also forgot to add some tests that were expiring to my monitoring draw. So I had to go to a quest in the last minute not to delay my transfer.

How was your experience with Lucky Sekhon at RMA of New York?
Dr. Sekhon is an amazing provider. She is very relatable, kind, funny, and compassionate. Although I did not get to see her at every visit, I trusted that she was making the best decisions for me in my care. There were times when I had hoped for more communication with her around certain issues rather than with her nurses, but I know her time can be limited. Overall, I was so happy with the care I received from her.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Lucky Sekhon at RMA of New York?
She will be up-front with all the options for you and realistic about outcomes. She is extremely knowledgeable and you should trust that she has your best interest in mind.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Lucky Sekhon at RMA of New York?
Dr. Sekhon treated us with respect and care from Day 1. She was always very real, and didn’t sugar-coat anything, yet she always delivered information in a way that was clear and caring. She shared with us her own experience with fertility treatment which made her feel so relatable and no different from us.
Describe the protocols Lucky Sekhon used in your cycles at RMA of New York and their degree of success.
I went through 4 medicated IUI cycles. The first cycle we used clomid and it was unsuccessful. The second cycle we used clomid again, and my body responded too well to the medication, so we chose to cancel the cycle rather than risk multiples. The last 3 cycles were done with letrozole and all resulted in negative pregnancy tests. Dr. Sekhon was able to get my insurance to provide coverage for IVF despite not completing 6 IUI cycles. We moved on to IVF and had a successful egg retrieval, freeze-all cycle, and frozen embryo transfer.
How competent was Lucky Sekhon at LGBTQ care?
Dr. Sekhon was extremely welcoming and respectful. As a same-sex female couple, she advised us on the ways in which other doctors may have overlooked potential issues in our care. Dr. Sekhon requested all diagnostic tests in the beginning, even though I had no known fertility issues, because she wanted to rule out any issues. It was great that she did that because she saved us time and money when an issue was discovered through diagnostic testing. Dr. Sekhon is also a big advocate of the LGBTQ community through her online presence where she brings to light issues that the LGBTQ community faces as it relates to fertility treatment.
Describe your experience with your nurse at RMA of New York. (Assigned nurse: Kyra Fischer)
Kyra, and Dr. Sekhon’s nursing staff, are absolutely incredible. They are compassionate, responsive and thoughtful in their communication with patients.I always felt so taken care of by them.
Describe your experience with RMA of New York.
Some of their strengths include: well-organized, great with handling insurance, great history of success rates, LGBTQ+ competence, several locations. A weakness is that since the clinic is so large, it can sometimes feel like you’re just a number, so you should advocate for yourself when trying to establish your relationship with your care team.
Describe your experience with your monitoring appointments at RMA of New York.
Since RMA has several locations, I was able to go in for monitoring at the location that was convenient for me. There were times when I needed to change the time of my monitoring appointment, and the team was accommodating. For all monitoring appointments, things went smoothly. Some days I waited for a longer period of time than other days, but the wait was never too extreme.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Lucky Sekhon at RMA of New York.
Thankfully, most was covered under insurance. I paid for co-pays for office visits, bloodwork, and ultrasounds. The one downside was that the anesthesiologist that does all the egg retrievals is an out-of-network provider so I had to pay out-of-pocket for anesthesia and it was almost $1,000.
Describe Lucky Sekhon's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at RMA of New York.
Dr. Sekhon did not even discuss a multiple embryo transfer with us because of my age and the likelihood that a single transfer would be successful. I know she typically only does single transfers and discourages multiple.
How competent was RMA of New York at LGBTQ care?
They offer LGBTQ specific fertility events and have a whole section on their website related to working with the LGBTQ community. They also participate at local NYC-based Pride celebrations in June.
Describe your experience using 3rd party reproduction (donor eggs, donor sperm, or gestational carrier) at RMA of New York.
We used a rather large donor sperm bank so the coordination between RMA and the bank was pretty seamless since they both knew what they were doing.

I was lucky to have Dr. Sekhon as my doctor through an egg freezing cycle. She was transparent, and explained things to me in a way that was easy to understand, and used examples which helped me manage my expectations. She made me feel like she was accessible throughout the entire process...was accessible, and talked me through the process with as much detail as I needed, even illustrating the process for me to visually understand the process and procedure.
With regards to the [RMA of New York] clinic staff they were generally good, with a friendly bedside manner. Check in was very easy and I was never waiting too long for my appointment. I wish I had known that the anesthesiologist was going to be an extra out of pocket cost (due anesthesiologist not taking insurance) when I had my initial consultation though.

Just remember that depending on the timing of your cycle, Dr. Sekhon may not be the one to perform the procedure, and might not be present at all monitoring appointments.

I felt like Dr Sekhon was accessible, and talked me through the process with as much detail as I needed, even illustrating the process for me to visually understand the process and procedure.
Describe the protocols Lucky Sekhon used in your cycles at RMA of New York and their degree of success.
I had a fairly straight-forward procedure being done for egg freezing, therefore the approach was relatively straightforward. I appreciate that the medication order was prescribed for a quantity which allowed me to order the medications only once through my specialty pharmacy, rather than multiple orders which would have required additional costs. We started with monitoring every two to three days, and eventually increased to daily monitoring, to ensure we knew the right time to administer the trigger shot. All in all a fairly straightforward process and procedure.
Describe your experience with your nurse at RMA of New York. (Assigned nurse: Mauli Maniar, then Jennifer Needle)
The fertility care coordinator changed during my course of treatment. It would have been good to get an email to transition the care coordinator.

A lot of my treatment was covered by insurance, however there were the following co-pays/out of pocket costs: - Specialist visit co-pays, for each visit, including each day of monitoring - Medication co-pays, for each 5 different types of medications - Anethesiologist fee, as they did not take insurance. $950 was the rate when I had my procedure. -

Describe the specific things that went wrong at RMA of New York.
There was a day where there were a couple of administrative mistakes at the clinic; where my scan was displaying a different patient name after my first ultrasound, and I had to provide a urine sample twice because the first sample had accidentally been discarded.

Dr. Sekhon is an incredibly knowledgeable, caring, non-judgmental, intelligent and trustworthy doctor. She tailors treatment to the individual and does not believe in a one-size-fits-all treatment plan. I felt seen and heard by Dr. Sekhon, and she also made sure to make every effort to see me herself at each appointment...In advance of the transfer, she did a saline sonogram as a mock transfer...
[RMA of New York] Very organized. As an anxious patient, I appreciated that it was a well oiled machine and everyone was seen in the order in which they arrived during monitoring appointments. I also always knew what to expect from appointments. In addition to the IVF coordinator, the Financial Coordinator were extremely helpful to seek insurance clearance and explain all financial obligations. I also appreciated that RMA has multiple offices so you can be seen where it is easiest for you...

She tailors treatment to the individual and does not believe in a one-size-fits-all treatment plan. I felt seen and heard by Dr. Sekhon, and she also made sure to make every effort to see me herself at each appointment.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Lucky Sekhon at RMA of New York?
Don't wait for ~1 year before seeing her and discuss your family planning
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Lucky Sekhon at RMA of New York?
I transferred to Dr. Sekhon's care after having a negative experience with another doctor and his team in the practice, and after hearing strong reviews from friends who were patients of Dr. Sekhon for various reasons. Dr. Sekhon listens and cares. She is non-judgmental and truly wants the best for her patients. I absolutely felt like I was treated as a human and not just a number with her, which is one of the main reasons I switched to her care.
Describe the protocols Lucky Sekhon used in your cycles at RMA of New York and their degree of success.
Before transferring to Dr. Sekhon's care, I did an egg retrieval cycle, 3 IUIs and 1 IVF transfer with 2 Day 3 embroys with Dr. Sandler. All IUI and IVF transfers under Dr. Sandler's care were unsuccessful. We were successful in our first transfer under Dr. Sekhon's care. In advance of the transfer, she did a saline sonogram as a mock transfer. I took estrogen and progesterone leading up and following the successful transfer. I should be weaning off the medication ~week 9.
Describe your experience with your nurse at RMA of New York. (Assigned nurse: Jackie (nurse) and Rachel F (coordinator))
While we have only been under Dr. Sekhon's care for ~2 months, her team has proven to be effective and organized communicators with prompt response rates. They also took time to answer questions, no matter how repetitive, and showed compassion.
Describe your experience with RMA of New York.
Very organized. I also appreciated that RMA has multiple offices so you can be seen where it is easiest for you.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Lucky Sekhon at RMA of New York.
I have good insurance. I don't remember the exact total specific to Dr. Sekhon's care vs. total care, but I am extremely grateful for my insurance and that RMA takes my insurance.
Describe Lucky Sekhon's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at RMA of New York.
Dr. Sekhon felt good/positive about our grade 4AB embryo and did not recommend transferring more than 1 embryo at a time for my safety. We agreed, especially after a failed attempt at transferring 2 Day 3 embryos with Dr. Sandler.
What specific things went wrong at RMA of New York?
  • Failed to call with results
  • Failed to convey critical information
Describe the specific things that went wrong at RMA of New York.
Under Dr. Sandler's care, there were 2 critical errors made. 1.) after my IVF transfer with 2 Day 3 embryos, I was instructed to stop taking all my medication a day before my pregnancy test. It took me showing up and asking to speak to ANY nurse because no one on his team was in that day to find out about this error because my gut (I lacked some knowledge at this time) told me that was wrong. I emailed and called about it after, and never heard back from anyone regarding the matter. 2.) Half my eggs were unfrozen instead of all to make embryos without clear explanation. After we got the call that 8 of 9 of my eggs could be fertilized, we heard nothing all week. I kept calling in to ask for status updates of our embryos and it would sometimes take a full day to get a call back. Our embryos were fertilized on a Saturday and by the next Friday I finally heard that only 1 embryo made it to Day 5.

Dr. Sekhon is a wonderful doctor. She is thorough in her explanation of the process and what to expect. She is patient and always willing to explain or repeat anything that may be confusing. Additionally, she is highly responsive via email...[she] showed a strong preference to single embryo transfer and advised why she could not do a multiple embryo transfer...[she] adjusted my medication / treatment strategy based on my bloodwork and reactions
[RMA of New York's] strength is the resourcing and system it has set up. there is a good amount of automation and attention to detail where it really matters (blood work names, samples etc). Weaknesses of the clinic is sometime you the patient were required to call and follow up in case there was a miss on update or scheduling miss. The finance department got a little confusing to align with to best understand how my insurance aligned with the procedures.

We are truly grateful for our experience with Dr. Sekhon. Even in having tough conversations...her bedside manner was warm, genuine and considerate. It was a beautiful experience to feel so understood and cared for throughout our journey. Dr. Sekhon also has a wonderful energy about her that makes you feel safe in what is a very vulnerable process. We would, without a doubt, recommend her to anyone considering the IVF process.
RMS of NY has a very well organized office. We never waited long for our scheduled appointments, which is always a plus. Both the administrative office and nurses communicate very well and consistently; pre and post visit. The only suggestion I would have is for the clinic to revisit the Co-IVF contract, to ensure there is a version for same sex couples, that correctly specify the patient/recipient of egg.

What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Lucky Sekhon at RMA of New York?
To not be afraid to ask any questions, even if they seem silly. There is no judgement from Dr. Sekohn in trying to understand certain aspects of the process and she makes herself available to ensure you have the information you need to take the next step and/or make the best decision for yourself.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Lucky Sekhon at RMA of New York?
We were undergoing a Co-IVF process and it felt good not having to explain what we were doing each time we had a visit. We felt seen, heard and understood at every appointment. We understand that Doctors see a number of patients/couples throughout the day, but it never felt that way. It always felt like Dr. Sekhon truly knew us and was rooting for our journey.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at RMA of New York.
The nursing staff has created a well oiled machine, but even in their ability to be fast in their process, they still take the time to be warm and kind each visit.

Co-IVF is unfortunately not covered by insurance, even at advanced maternal stage, so we had to pay for most services out of pocket, but were told about WinFertility and worked with that program.

Dr Sekhon's warm, yet direct approach immediately made me trust her. During times of disappointment (a less successful egg retrieval than anticipated) she called me personally to check in and talk about next steps. She's incredibly knowledgable about the process to conceive, but also about health in general, and always made me feel safe to ask any and all questions... I didn't realize how open she was to engaging directly with patients frequently until a bit later in my journey. The few emails and phone calls we had (off the regular appointment cycle) really made me feel individually cared for (while recognizing she likely has tons of patients and a busy schedule!)...
Most monitoring appts [at RMA of New York] were very convenient -- I could go to the clinic closest to my home...It was generally easy to get an appt at a time that worked for me. They ran late 50% of the time...Coordinating messages from the phone staff to nurses, and playing phone tag, can sometimes be a pain, but they always get back to you. I always tried to be able to answer my phone when they called -- so that's an inconvenience but an understandable one!...
How was your experience with Lucky Sekhon at RMA of New York?
Dr. Sekhon is warm, kind, direct, and knowledgable. She easily explained every part of the IVF process in a way I could understand (as someone who was brand new to all of this), and her empathetic yet directive approach made me trust her immediately. At decision points along the way, she laid out options and explained the multiple sides of things, providing guidance for my own decision-making. Her personal touches – phone calls during times of disappointment, emails about specific anxieties I had, and her bedside manner at appointments – made me feel safe, cared for, and confident in the team leading me through a challenging, complicated, miraculous journey.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Lucky Sekhon at RMA of New York?

For ERs: gonal, cetrotide, menopur, lupron/hcg trigger. I had a solid amount of follicles, so we focused on slow and steady growth. All of my follicles produced eggs that could be retrieved! For transfer: medicated cycle (but without birth control), estradoil, pio, synthroid, baby aspirin, lovenox.

Most monitoring appts were very convenient -- I could go to the clinic closest to my home. It was generally easy to get an appt at a time that worked for me. They ran late 50% of the time.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Lucky Sekhon at RMA of New York.
We did 2 egg retrievals, 2 rounds of PGT-A/M testing, and 1 transfer. The cost for 1 ER + testing + transfer was around 20K. The additional retrieval + testing was around 15K.
Describe Lucky Sekhon's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at RMA of New York.
We didn't discuss but since this was my first transfer and I do not struggle with infertility, I assume that's why we went with single!

She [Dr. Sekhon] explained everything with lots of detail, and made herself available over email, which I really appreciated as I had many questions. How was your experience with Lucky Sekhon at RMA of New York?
Dr. Sekhon is a star doctor, at least in my experience. She explained everything with lots of detail, and made herself available over email, which I really appreciated as I had many questions. Dr. Sekhon is amazing. She is compassionate and a great listener. I always felt so safe and confident in her presence. She literally MADE my experience.
Describe the protocols Lucky Sekhon used in your cycles at RMA of New York and their degree of success.
the first protocol for egg retrieval resulted in over stimulation I believe - my retrieval recovery was painful - I had lots of eggs retrieved (18) and only one healthy embryo (two had to be tested twice - thawed twice - they later came back normal but Dr. Sekhon suggested we repeat the cycle to get more embryos. Second round I believe medication doses changed, were slightly lowered so as not to over stimulate me. Second round we had 14 eggs, 2 embryos.
Describe your experience with your nurse at RMA of New York. (Assigned nurse: Jennifer Needle)
I had a few nurses who worked with Dr. Sekhon. Most of my exchanges were lovely. There was one nurse who felt a little less compassionate. Jennifer was great at responding to my many many questions. One area where she could improve is in her management of medications. If I wasn't organized, I would have run out of meds several times throughout the course of my time with RMA. The first time I ordered meds there was a mistake as well, and it was only resolved once I caught it - that caused stress early on.

one time I was sent the wrong dosage of estrogen, was told to take 3x day vs 2x. I had to call to double check. I also had an issue with ordering my meds the first time I made the order - some items were missing from my initial prescription which I only found out about after speaking with the pharmacy.

From the consultation to my very last appointment with her, she [Dr. Sekhon] was engaged and listened to any concerns I had and she was supportive by asking me important questions each time I saw her. I definitely felt like I was guided through this process, which I know is not the experience of many Black women or LGBTQ+ patients, which I identify as, so it was important for me to have Dr. Sekhon take the care that she did with me and my partner as we discussed options and ultimately went through the IUI procedure.
I think my overall experience with the nursing staff [at RMA of NY] and other coordinators was excellent; however, there was some miscommunication when it came down to me obtaining the prescription for the Ovidrel...Depending on which office you're going to, it can be a bit of a commute, especially for the monitoring hours appointments, which usually take place between 7am-9am, sometimes earlier.
How was your experience with Lucky Sekhon at RMA of New York?
I think Dr. Sekhon definitely showed compassion and genuine excitement for me and my partner to embark on this journey to having a baby. I felt like she did everything in her power to assist us in getting pregnant, including moving up the IUI date after one of my appointments.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Lucky Sekhon at RMA of New York?
I would say that it is a tiring but enjoyable experience. There are a lot of early mornings, so I would suggest getting accustomed to having appointments between 7am-9am, sometimes earlier depending on the appointment. I would also just keep in mind that you may not always see Dr. Sekhon for your appointments.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Lucky Sekhon at RMA of New York?
Dr. Sekhon is an amazing doctor! Describe the protocols Lucky Sekhon used in your cycles at RMA of New York and their degree of success.
Leading up to the IUI, Dr. Sekhon prescribed an Ovidrel injection that was given to me on the day before the IUI. My IUI was actually moved up 24 hours after an ultrasound. I'm not quite sure of the technical definition or reasoning, but in laymen's terms, it seemed that my egg was ready to be fertilized and moving the procedure up a day would potentially increase the chances of me getting pregnant.
Describe your experience with your nurse at RMA of New York. (Assigned nurse: Melissa Moro)
I think my overall experience with the nursing staff and other coordinators was excellent; however, there was some miscommunication when it came down to me obtaining the prescription for the Ovidrel. The situation played out poorly. I wasn't initially informed that the prescription had been sent to a certain pharmacy until a nurse called and told me just a few days before I would need to obtain the Ovidrel and bring it to my next appointment. I was a bit frantic after that phone call because my insurance wouldn't cover the prescription so I had to pay $200 out of pocket. Before I paid out of pocket, there was a lot of back and forth about sending the prescription to a different pharmacy from the nurses so eventually I was able to get the prescription from a pharmacy in Hoboken. Ultimately, it was a lot of miscommunication.
Describe your experience with RMA of New York.
Depending on which office you're going to, it can be a bit of a commute, especially for the monitoring hours appointments, which usually take place between 7am-9am, sometimes earlier. I drove to most of my appointments at the Madison office, which for someone who lives in NJ costs tolls, but to the appointments at the Broadway office, I was able to take the PATH train and walk about 10-12 minutes. I'm not sure if this is a weakness, but the commute early in the morning was the hardest thing for us.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Lucky Sekhon at RMA of New York.
During this process, I only had to pay for transportation to and from the clinic, and the Ovidrel, which wasn't covered by my insurance. Otherwise, I didn't have any other out of pocket expenses.

Dr. Sekhon made the time to listen and made us feel like our input matter, while she provided professional and helpful advice. It seemed as if she was always on top of our case, making necessary and timely changes to our treatment and advocating for next moves that felt best aligned with our interests....She was on top of our situation and advocated for us within the clinic so that we were prepped and ready for an IVF cycle before the window closed for the year.
RMA operates as a whole team in order to provide the most convenience and availability to patients, and this means that you will often be working with nurses and other RMA doctors. But Dr. Sekhon was always the one who looked at my numbers and communicated the next steps so it still felt like a dedicated patient experience....nursing staff was friendly, clearly communicated next steps and were very helpful in answering any questions I may had
How was your experience with Lucky Sekhon at RMA of New York?
My ob-gyn recommended Dr. Sekhon, and my husband and I were very glad we went to see her and felt we were in good hands since the initial consult. Being new to the whole process, I was honestly a little overwhelmed at first, but Dr. Sekhon was professional and educational about what our treatment would look like and took the time to clearly explain the process and plan. She never tried to push the plan, which we appreciated. During our journey, our situation had changed, and Dr. Sekhon quickly realized we needed a change in plan. She was on top of our situation and advocated for us within the clinic so that we were prepped and ready for an IVF cycle before the window closed for the year. After a successful IVF cycle, Dr. Sekhon was patient with answering MANY of my questions about pregnancy. Overall, my husband and I thought Dr. Sekhon was trustworthy and dependable, and we are highly satisfied!
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Lucky Sekhon at RMA of New York?
We would tell a prospective patient to manage their expectations around how much they will be working directly with their primary RMA doctor. We understand that RMA operates as a whole team in order to provide the most convenience and availability to patients, and this means that you will often be working with nurses and other RMA doctors. But Dr. Sekhon was always the one who looked at my numbers and communicated the next steps so it still felt like a dedicated patient experience.

Describe the protocols Lucky Sekhon used in your cycles at RMA of New York and their degree of success.
Dr. Sekhon recommended that we start with three rounds of IUI (only three because the success rate really drops after that) and then re-evaluate for IVF if unsuccessful. During IUI, I took Letrozole for a few days pre-ovulation then had an Ovidrel shot to trigger ovulation. The IUI rounds were unsuccessful, and along the way, we also saw that the sperm analysis was not ideal, so my husband consulted with Dr. Barhama, a urologist with RMA. We then began an IVF cycle using Gonal/F, Menopur, and Cerotide to prepare for retrieval (grow as many eggs) and the Lupron trigger shot right before retrieval. During the transfer cycle, I took Estrace and Progesterone in oil to prepare my uterine lining. I continued these medications after the transfer and also into my pregnancy.

Strengths - organized, convenient locations in NYC, all staff are courteous and professional. Weaknesses - sometimes we didn't get our requested appointment times or didn't get a communication at all and needed to call the office the morning of.

We got our requested appointment times and waits were minimal. We typically were able to see Dr. Sekhon (but not always).

How was your experience with Lucky Sekhon at RMA of New York?
Dr. Sekhon is an excellent communicator, obviously an expert (always brought data and insight to our conversations), and she is funny and approachable as well. She's obviously very passionate about serving her community of patients and was super available over email whenever I had questions about anything. Dr. Sekhon listened carefully whenever I reported any symptoms or reactions to medications and adjusted accordingly. I've already recommended her to two other friends who are patients of hers now as well. I'm very fortunate that she has been my doctor. My experience with Dr. Sekhon and her team was great.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Lucky Sekhon at RMA of New York?
Don't be afraid to ask questions and to clarify! Dr. Sekhon is very patient and knowledgable but she can't know what you are thinking or worrying about unless you tell her.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Lucky Sekhon at RMA of New York?
Dr. Sekhon and her nurse team (Jennifer was great as well) were with me through the two years of cycles that we managed. They counseled me, were available over email all the time and always made me feel valued and informed.
Describe the protocols Lucky Sekhon used in your cycles at RMA of New York and their degree of success.
The protocol varied for egg retrieval versus embryo transfer. For the transfer (which was successful on the first try - amazing), I was placed on progesterone (injected) and estrogen (pills twice a day). After the transfer, Dr. Sekhon needed to increase my progesterone and added progesterone pills (vaginal) and increased estrogen to 3x a day. Obviously, I've been extremely fortunate so far and the transfer has resulted in an active pregnancy (nearing the end of my first trimester).

Jennifer was my primary care coordinator and was also with me through 2 years of treatment. She was extremely responsive, great communicator, really knowledgeable and a wonderful support.
Describe your experience with RMA of New York.
RMA is a big machine that functions extremely efficiently. It's staffed with excellent doctors and nurses and you always feel you have some of the best working on your procedures. Please know that because of working hours, etc., if you have a more demanding job that is less flexible, that means that you might not always see your primary doctor but you will always be able to accommodate your schedule. I often went to monitoring appointments as early as 6:45 AM to accommodate my work schedule and it was so refreshing to be able to do that and have that level of flexibility. It also meant that i didn't have to explain any absences or tell anyone at work unless I chose to do so. Big staff and big operation but great people.
Describe your experience with your monitoring appointments at RMA of New York.
This was an efficient, well-oiled machine and was extremely accommodating to my personal work schedule.
Describe Lucky Sekhon's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at RMA of New York.
Given the lack of any known fertility issues, Dr. Sekhon felt a single embryo transfer would be fine and she was correct.

I did not get much face-time with her [Dr. Lucky Sekhon] but I knew she was looking out for me at watching over me. We would email and touch base over the phone when necessary. We always touched base to discuss next steps/game plan and she was always VERY VERY honest with me, which I appreciate more than anything else...she won’t hold back with her professional assessment. Sometimes it is not what you want to hear but it is why I respected and trusted her.
I generally attended RMA Brooklyn. That said, RMA is highly organized and do an amazing job of caring for each and every patient given the size of the practice. In terms of weaknesses, at times you could feel like a cog in the wheel but I preferred location and efficiency (and results, of course) over needing a boutique experience.
How was your experience with Lucky Sekhon at RMA of New York?
Dr. Sekhon is honest and will give it to you straight. In my opinion, that is invaluable when entering infertility treatments and all of the unknown. We always adjust course if it felt like things weren’t working and she listened to me if I had concerns/frustrations. Even though I didn’t see her as much as I would have like due to going to the BK office most frequently, I trusted her implicitly, which is why I worked with her for both of my pregnancies.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Lucky Sekhon at RMA of New York?
When you are struggling with infertility you want someone who will be both positive and honest. Dr. Sekhon is both but she won’t hold back with her professional assessment. Sometimes it is not what you want to hear but it is why I respected and trusted her.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Lucky Sekhon at RMA of New York?
When you go to RMA it can feel a bit like a factory (they are busy but very efficient). That said, they get to know you and care for you. Dr. Sekhon was at the Downtown office and I almost always went to the Brooklyn office so I did not get much face-time with her but I knew she was looking out for me at watching over me. Describe Lucky Sekhon's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at RMA of New York.
There is more inherent risk with carrying multiples, which is why they transfer single embryos.

I don’t have any advice but to please never change!
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Lucky Sekhon at RMA of New York?
As an ultrasound tech I have worked with so many doctors that make it very difficult to trust someone truly in this for patient care. I have driven an hour and half from a different state because I was referred to Dr. Sekhon by another doctor. She is so compassionate about what she does while also explaining everything that’s going to happen step by step. This is a hard journey to go through also while I am grieving the loss of my mother and she remembered that on my first appointment. She remembered details about my medical history from previous emails and I was so lucky to have her as my Dr.

From my first transfer to second transfer we changed to progesterone in oil instead of suppository and I started taking a thyroid supplement which worked

Dr. Sekhon is warm, direct, and very knowledgeable. I had multiple challenges in achieving a viable pregnancy, and I appreciated how she always referenced the science, data, and studies to inform decision-making in my care. As a patient, I felt informed and empowered to make the decisions. She was patient and persistent in my case, trying varying protocols, and I'm extremely happy that I'm now pregnant
Due to the size of the [RMA of New York] practice, I felt like I could always get an appointment when I needed, but sometimes it was very impersonal due to interacting with staff or providers who didn't know me or my case...I had several nurses as primary point of contact during my several years of fertility treatments. What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Lucky Sekhon at RMA of New York?
Try to arrange your schedule to see her in person. Ask the nurses to schedule your appointments on the days when she's monitoring as much as possible. That in person contact is invaluable.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Lucky Sekhon at RMA of New York?
Dr. Sekhon was always warm, personable and attentive to my case in person. RMA of New York is a large group practice with multiple locations, and I wasn't always able to do my monitoring appointments at the location she was working at, so on days I saw different doctors I felt more like number.
Describe the protocols Lucky Sekhon used in your cycles at RMA of New York and their degree of success.
IUI with clomid. IVF. Co-IVF when my eggs were not producing viable embryos. Polypectomy prior to starting FET. Lupron prior to IVF after unsuccessful frozen embryo transfers.
Describe your experience with your nurse at RMA of New York. (Assigned nurse: Connie, then Julia)
I had several nurses as primary point of contact during my several years of fertility treatments. Our contact was mostly over the phone. Connie and I built a rapport over time, but later I believe Julia took over for her, though I wasn't directly informed of the change. At times other nurses covered for them. It's hard to build a connection with just brief phone calls. I did have a consistent and positive relationship with Jennifer, the IVF Coordinator. She was warm, responsive and compassionate.
Describe your experience with RMA of New York.
Fertility treatment was the most intensive medical experience I've ever gone through, with frequent appointments. Before embarking on it, I didn't realize how many different staff and doctors I would interact with in a large group practice with multiple locations. Due to the size of the practice, I felt like I could always get an appointment when I needed, but sometimes it was very impersonal due to interacting with staff or providers who didn't know me or my case.

Dr Sekhon was very respectful and friendly. She was great about explaining everything along the way in very understandable language. She was encouraging but honest. I appreciated how she connected with me as a patient...very down to earth and easy to feel comfortable around. We did two IUIs with her and two IVF cycles, each with their own retrievals. She was good about setting expectations while also providing a lot of positivity and hope...
It [RMA of New York] runs like a well oiled machine--very efficient and quick communication. I liked that but other people might prefer smaller, more intimate doctors offices. How was your experience with Lucky Sekhon at RMA of New York?
I felt like I was in good hands with Dr. Sekhon. She had already treated a friend who had success so I had confidence in her. She is very down to earth and easy to feel comfortable around. We did two IUIs with her and two IVF cycles, each with their own retrievals. She was good about setting expectations while also providing a lot of positivity and hope.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Lucky Sekhon at RMA of New York?
Even if another location is closer, it's best to try to do all appts you can in the Soho office with her. For my first cycle, I went to the Brooklyn office a lot out of convenience but realized for my second cycle that I wanted more face time with the doctor making all the decisions, so started going to Soho instead. I felt it made a difference for me personally.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Lucky Sekhon at RMA of New York?
Though RMA runs almost like a machine, I still felt that almost everyone I interacted with was warm. Dr Sekhon was very respectful and friendly. She was great about explaining everything along the way in very understandable language. She was encouraging but honest. I appreciated how she connected with me as a patient.
Describe the protocols Lucky Sekhon used in your cycles at RMA of New York and their degree of success.
After getting only five eggs and one normal embryo (which didn't implant) she changed the injection medications and doses a bit. The second cycle yielded eleven eggs but still only one normal embryo, which fortunately did implant.
Describe your experience with your nurse at RMA of New York. (Assigned nurse: Connie)
Connie often sounded impatient to me. I never loved her tone. Other nurses that called were always WAY more friendly than she was. She was still helpful, responsive and informative though.
Describe your experience with RMA of New York.
RMA is a baby factory. It runs like a well oiled machine--very efficient and quick communication. I liked that but other people might prefer smaller, more intimate doctors offices. I like that they had multiple office locations as well.
Describe your experience with your monitoring appointments at RMA of New York.
Appts were early morning, before work, which was very convenient. It was super efficient and they did a great job timing visits so only a few people were waiting in the office at once, for covid safety.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Lucky Sekhon at RMA of New York.
After insurance, I paid about $5,500 per IVF cycle, including retrieval and transfer.
Describe Lucky Sekhon's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at RMA of New York.
We only had one normal embryo each cycle

Describe the specific things that went wrong at RMA of New York.
There were minor communication mishaps that were always quickly cleared up when I followed up. They did forget to call in a very important injection that I had to take at a certain time the day before the IVF retrieval, so that caused some stress to get it last minute, but worked out fine in the end.

How was your experience with Lucky Sekhon at RMA of New York?
I had a great experience as Dr. Sekhon's patient. Dr. Sekhon is very knowledgeable about all aspects of egg freezing, but also very approachable and was able to put me at ease several times. My experience was completely in line with what Dr. Sekhon outlined at my initial consultation, and I felt informed about all aspects of the process. I would highly recommend egg freezing in general to any of my friends, and I feel my positive experience was in large part due to being in Dr. Sekhon's care.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Lucky Sekhon at RMA of New York?
Dr. Sekhon put me at ease and was patient in answering all questions throughout the process. I consistently felt that Dr. Sekhon was patient and thorough in all of her interactions with me. Because of the nature of the monitoring appointments, I did not see Dr. Sekhon every time, but I was always most comfortable when I could see her and she was always transparent about which office she would be in for upcoming days so I could try to see her.

What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Lucky Sekhon at RMA of New York?
I would have liked to have all appointments with Dr. Sekhon.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Lucky Sekhon at RMA of New York?
Dr. Sekhon answered all of the questions I had in a very timely manner. She was also very kind in dealing with my numerous questions.
Describe the protocols Lucky Sekhon used in your cycles at RMA of New York and their degree of success.
I had a standard IVF process, where I took medication in preparation for the egg retrieval, had egg retrieval and the next cycle had 5-day frozen embryo transplant.
Describe your experience with your nurse at RMA of New York. (Assigned nurse: Connie )
While Dr. Sekhon was amazing, I did not have the same experience with her Nurse, Connie. She was not aware of my specific treatment plan. For instance, initially she thought I was getting a IUI when I needed to be prepped for IVF. She corrected herself right away after I reminded her but overall it did not feel like she was present. She was the only who called with my blood results, and those calls felt very rushed. I did not often get to ask follow up questions (which was OK I guess because I emailed those to Dr. Sekhon and she got back to me within the same day (if not within hrs!))
Describe your experience with RMA of New York.
Strength: fast and convenient Weakness: I saw the medical assistance for blood draw the most, since they were in such a hurry the care did not feel personalized. I felt more like a factory (which I guess is the cost of being fast, but I wonder if there could be some balance because I spent more time with the medical assistants who drew my blood). Not all of the doctors were alike at RMA, while I love my doctor Dr. Sekhon, I did not feel the other doctors had the same bed side manner.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Lucky Sekhon at RMA of New York.
I paid for co-pays for each ultrasound/blood retrieval ($20/visit), anesthesia for egg retrieval, and co-pays for medication.

Dr. Sekhon makes herself available, anytime. I emailed her whenever I had a concern & she was quick to reply or she had my IVF nurse call me. She validated my feelings & shared her own experiences with me...The initial plan was to be as minimally invasive as possible, so we started with monitored letrozole, ovidrel & timed intercourse. After a couple of failed rounds the plan was to further examine my uterus & ovaries. All of this was explained before the rounds letrozole.
[the RMA of NY staff] were extremely organized, coordinated & excellent communicators. The technology they implemented to help maintain all of their protocols was very helpful. Partners weren't allowed to accompany patients, which was hard, but we completely understood & they did their best to make us comfortable. All of the staff was just lovely. They were always calm & patient. I loved that they played "real" music via their Sonos system in the waiting room--so much better than elevator music & it kept me calm. How was your experience with Lucky Sekhon at RMA of New York?
I wish I had Lucky in my life sooner--as early as my teen years! (Although that wouldve been impossible as were about the same age!) Not only was she able to help us get pregnant but she improved my quality of life. I was a long time sufferer from PCOS plus uterine fibroids--but I didn't know how bad they had gotten until Lucky & her colleague Leigh Rosen explained everything to me. I didn't know how much my fibroids & PCOS had been monopolizing my every day. I felt truly cared for, Lucky was not just treating my symptoms (as many doctors have in the past...), she was treating the causes. I felt like I was speaking to a caring friend. She made me feel comfortable in a way that I haven't felt about other physicians. She is knowledgeable & truly cares about sharing information. Lucky changed my life & I'll never forget that.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Lucky Sekhon at RMA of New York?
Lucky is incredibly high functioning & she'll get you the answers that you're looking. Don't go "down the rabbit hole" of the internet to try to figure things out on your own, reach out to Lucky instead. She will listen to you. Be your own advocate--it's ok to confirm next steps, to re-confirm information & to remind Lucky about some of the details of your case. The fertility journey is intense. Take notes before & during your visit. Write down questions ahead of time so that you don't forget to ask them when you have time with Lucky. Take notes so that you can review them after your appointment & feel free to email follow up questions to Lucky or your IVF nurse. Sometimes it will feel like you're getting a deluge of information & it's ok to take the time to process all of it.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Lucky Sekhon at RMA of New York?
Dr. Sekhon makes herself available, anytime. I emailed her whenever I had a concern & she was quick to reply or she had my IVF nurse call me. She validated my feelings & shared her own experiences with me, when I started to feel crazy. She encouraged me to reach out to her instead of attempting to do my own research. I often felt like I was the only one in her care, especially as she advised us on everything from next steps to surgery to the Covid vaccines.
Describe the protocols Lucky Sekhon used in your cycles at RMA of New York and their degree of success.
My treatment strategies were very dependent on my diagnosis of uterine fibroids, PCOS & my age. I had ovulation challenges due to my diagnosis. The initial plan was to be as minimally invasive as possible, so we started with monitored letrozole, ovidrel & timed intercourse. After a couple of failed rounds the plan was to further examine my uterus & ovaries. All of this was explained before the rounds letrozole. My fibroids required an adominal myomectomy (after an MRI indicated that I had about 25 fibroids of varying sizes, one being quite large), so a major surgery& recovery time had to be factored into our treatment. We landed on IVF, based on Lucky's guidance around our best chances of becoming pregnant. & to preserve our fertility.
Describe your experience with your nurse at RMA of New York. (Assigned nurse: Constance "Connie" Schmidt)
Connie was awesome. She called after every appointment & followed up with an email after the call. The email summarized everything we talked about plus any instructions that we discussed, in terms of treatment, medications, administerings meds, etc. Sometimes Connie had to deliver not so great news, if Lucky couldn't get back to us right away & she was alwasy compassionate & patient. Connie is very knowledgeable & she would be quick to offer tips & tricks to help make something easier. I never felt rushed on the phone or via email. It was truly a team effort & we were lucky to have Connie on our team too.
Describe your experience with RMA of New York.
We started visiting RMA in April of 2020 & throughout the pandemic. It was intense, but all of the precautions that the clinic took to keep their patients & staff safe, comfortable & healthy were impressive. They were extremely organized, coordinated & excellent communicators. Rarely was the team behind schedule. Rarely was the waiting room crowded--I felt comfortable & socially distanced. I've heard nightmare stories about other clinics... we were so grateful that we were with RMA.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Lucky Sekhon at RMA of New York.
Thanks to our insurance & the RMA Finance team, our appointments, IVF procedures & most of our medications were covered by our insurance & our $25k lifetime maximum for fertility treatments. We paid out of pocket for the genetic testing of our embryos. We were not charged for meeting with Rena Gower, the clinic's therapist (this was a service that we found very helpful).
Describe Lucky Sekhon's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at RMA of New York.
Lucky advised that transferring one embryo is a best practice, as multiples are considered high-risk. In order to ensure our best chances for a healthy pregnancy, delivery & baby, a single embryo transfer was best for us.

Dr. Sekhon was one of the most empathetic, supportive doctors I’ve ever had the pleasure to see. She followed up and answered questions personally and never made me feel like a bother. She is frank and honest and didn’t treat me like just a “patient.”...incredibly knowledgeable, flexible and open to what her patients are comfortable with...she didn’t push us to move faster than we were comfortable with. I felt supported and that she was truly in our corner and wanting our treatment to succeed on a personal level...
RMA is a well oiled machine. I didn’t wait too long for screenings and scans and always got through to a clinical person if I had questions. Scheduling was challenging because I preferred the west side office and often had to call to change my monitoring because they scheduled me elsewhere, but otherwise my experience was very positive. It is a very busy practice...Dr Sekhon’s nurse Connie was fantastic, always answered my questions and was compassionate while I was going through a very stressful time...
How was your experience with Lucky Sekhon at RMA of New York?
Dr. Sekhon is incredibly knowledgeable, flexible and open to what her patients are comfortable with. We weren’t ready to jump into IVF so we did many IUI cycles, and she didn’t push us to move faster than we were comfortable with. I felt supported and that she was truly in our corner and wanting our treatment to succeed on a personal level. I also trusted her advice fully because she was very straightforward and explained everything in a way I could understand.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Lucky Sekhon at RMA of New York?
Be honest about your own comfort level and she will work with you. And trust her advice!

Describe the protocols Lucky Sekhon used in your cycles at RMA of New York and their degree of success.
My first two cycles of IVF were cancelled because of low egg count. We switched protocols from the first to second, taking a more aggressive approach, which I did not respond well to, then switched again on the third round, which led to a transfer and ultimately a miscarriage. My fourth cycle was successful.

We transferred two fresh embryos, which Dr. Sekhon recommended and i agreed with.

Because we were transferring frozen embryos and had had one previous successful pregnancy, this round seemed pretty straight-forward. Dr. Sekhon was also straight-forward in her communication...originally planed to each do co-IVF, but we learned in our first consultation that I had low ovarian reserve and that I was not a good candidate for IVF...had my wife do two retrievals, resulting in 8 healthy embryos, which we froze until we were ready to transfer.
This clinic [RMA of New York] is very organized and runs very smoothly. The staff is very professional and competent. In both of my transfer experiences I felt that the course of the full treatment was never explained to me, so I didn't know what to expect. The second time around, I had a memory of the first time, but this didn't help with my anxiety...
How was your experience with Lucky Sekhon at RMA of New York?
Because we were transferring frozen embryos and had had one previous successful pregnancy, this round seemed pretty straight-forward. Dr. Sekhon was also straight-forward in her communication. I had more of an experience with Dr. Davis, who is no longer with the practice. He was extremely warm and comforting. He handled my wife's two retrievals and my first embryo transfer.
Describe the protocols Lucky Sekhon used in your cycles at RMA of New York and their degree of success.
Dr. Sekhon took over for Dr. Davis. We originally planed to each do co-IVF, but we learned in our first consultation that I had low ovarian reserve and that I was not a good candidate for IVF. We think had my wife do two retrievals, resulting in 8 healthy embryos, which we froze until we were ready to transfer. Dr. Davis transfered the first embryo, which was a success. Dr. Sekhon transfered the second, which was a success.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at RMA of New York.
The nurses were helpful with the medication calls and when I had a COVID scare/false alarm. Jennifer Needle was very helpful with coordinating my care and with answering my questions.

In both of my transfer experiences I felt that the course of the full treatment was never explained to me, so I didn't know what to expect. The second time around, I had a memory of the first time, but this didn't help with my anxiety. The first time, no one told me to start taking prenatal vitamins, for example, until it was casually mentioned before the transfer (assuming I had already started). The same happened when it was time to schedule with the OB, no one told me when it was time to do that, which was a problem the first time around.
Describe Lucky Sekhon's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at RMA of New York.
We did single embryo transfers each time because we fortunately had very high quality embryos to choose from.

Dr. Sekhon was always fully present whenever I was meeting or speaking with her, and made herself available via phone/email as often as needed - she was always completely informed and recalled every single detail of my specific case and never made me feel like a number...The best doctor I have ever had, hands down, of any kind! I don't wish for anyone to undergo/need this type of treatment but if you do....she's the absolute best! I recommend her completely and without hesitation
[RMA of New York] Pros: Truly incredible, caring, patient, compassionate staff! Felt cared for by not just Dr. Sekhon and Connie but by all of the doctors, nurses, and other staff...Very clear instructions and explanations of the entire process. Con: Scheduling for morning monitoring! Because of covid, morning monitoring happened with appointment slots instead of first-come, first-serve.

What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Lucky Sekhon at RMA of New York?
Don't be afraid to ask questions...while the whole process can feel agonizingly slow at times, the moments with the doctor can feel like they speed by, so it can help to write down questions in advance of appointments...and/or don't hesitate to reach out to her or the office with questions in between appointments if needed!

Loved working with Connie! She is so laid-back and reassuring while also being totally informed and on top of things.

Pros: Truly incredible, caring, patient, compassionate staff! Felt cared for by not just Dr. Sekhon and Connie but by all of the doctors, nurses, and other staff in the practice that I came into contact with (special shoutout to Kym and Jennifer Needle!). Very clear instructions and explanations of the entire process. Con: Scheduling for morning monitoring! Because of covid, morning monitoring happened with appointment slots instead of first-come, first-serve. This had pros and cons but on multiple occasions I either (a) did not receive an automated email to come in for an appointment when I was supposed to, or (b) received an appointment for a different time or location than I had requested, both of which created a lot of (what I perceived to be unnecessary) stress.
Describe your experience with your monitoring appointments at RMA of New York.
As outlined in previous section - could get a little competitive with other patients to get in the door/to get first in line, even with specific scheduled slots!

Success w/ Doc Too early to know
Dr. Sekhon always provided me with individualized care. She made sure to answer my e-mails (A LOT) on a timely basis, and calmed me down, when needed...she did change my dose of estrogen prior to transfer and during transfer to the last dose being vaginally (rather than orally) to increase my levels. This seemed to work and be a more aggressive approach for me..
The e-mails regarding medications to take are sometimes automated and may cause confusion...The [RMA of NY] clinic was not always timely in returning calls. When I called after hours, it would sometimes take a day or so to receive a call back from a nurse. The waiting room on Madison avenue may seem really busy, but they are efficient in getting you in and out of the door, especially when you are rushed in the mornings..
How was your experience with Lucky Sekhon at RMA of New York?
Dr. Sekhon always responded to e-mails and made sure to address all of mine and my husband's questions and concerns. She was knowledgable, and always showed compassion and care. I can't even elaborate on how much of a gem she truly has been through this whole process, other than we were SUPER lucky and fortunate to have had the chance to work with her and her team.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Lucky Sekhon at RMA of New York?
She truly means what she says-if you are feeling anxious about something, listen to what she says. She is knowledgable and understands what you are going through, even if it may not be the answer you specifically want to hear.

There was not a specific "protocol" that I think she used, but, she did change my dose of estrogen prior to transfer and during transfer to the last dose being vaginally (rather than orally) to increase my levels. This seemed to work and be a more aggressive approach for me.

Connie was a gem to work with, also. If Dr. Sekhon was not available, she would answer my questions or concerns in a timely manner. She made sure to make me feel comfortable, and did not make me feel as if I was bombarding her (although, I definitely was). She understood my background and my neurotic tendencies, and was always a helping hand.

The clinic was not always timely in returning calls. When I called after hours, it would sometimes take a day or so to receive a call back from a nurse. The waiting room on Madison avenue may seem really busy, but they are efficient in getting you in and out of the door, especially when you are rushed in the mornings. The downtown location is better in that there are less people, and you do not feel as overwhelmed. There are some doctors who I saw during monitoring that I did not have the best experiences with, but, Dr. Sekhon made sure that I only saw the doctors I felt comfortable with if she could not see me. Some of these doctors really did not take time to glance at your file and made you feel as if you are just another person walking through the door.
What specific things went wrong at RMA of New York?

Describe the specific things that went wrong at RMA of New York.
The e-mails regarding medications to take are sometimes automated and may cause confusion. For example, I was told by my nurse and doctor to take 2 pills of estrogen orally and 1 pill vaginally-the automated e-mail fills in to take all 3 pills orally, so I needed to double check that frequently.
