Dr. Maguire's demeanor was very warm, gentle, kind, and welcoming. During our initial consult she reviewed all possible courses of treatment for me to consider and also explained any tests or procedures that would come before beginning actual treatment. Her manner of speaking was not demeaning - in fact she even asked how much I already knew of reproductive assistance so she could adjust her explanations accordingly. During the morning monitoring appointments she was the attending doctor, she always remembered exactly where I was in the cycle and showed genuine excitement and care leading up to my last appointment.
RMA is a huge practice and was described to me as "an assembly line". It definitely feels like there are standard menus of treatment plans based on the patients' diagnoses and some patients may not like being lumped together with others. That being said, my care team was quick to alter the more standard plan to better fit my individual situation. This is also RMA's biggest strength - they know what works and what doesn't.

What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Marcy Maguire at RMA of New Jersey?
You'll be communicating with your nurse more than the doctor, but the times you do see Dr. Maguire - don't be afraid to be honest about any concerns or questions. She is very attentive and will take the time to explain with care.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Marcy Maguire at RMA of New Jersey?
RMA is a very large practice where they definitely seemed to have a number of protocols that most patients fell into. That being said, reviewing my treatment plan with Dr. Maguire and my nurse felt personal and they both took time to explain everything clearly and were quick to answer my questions with great detail.
Describe the protocols Marcy Maguire used in your cycles at RMA of New Jersey and their degree of success.
Preliminary testing included blood labs and a baseline ultrasound. After finding what were believed to be polyps, Dr. Maguire ordered a saline sonogram and HSG. After confirming there were polyps and a fibroid (no myectomy needed), she then ordered a hysteroscopy and polypectomy. For the actual IUI treatment, Dr. Maguire prescribed a 5-day course of letrozole. Due to a lack of satisfactory response to the first course, she then prescribed a second 5-day course of letrozole with daily follicle monitoring. Once two follicles reached 18mm at least, I then took the trigger shot Ovidrel and 36 hours later had an IUI.
How competent was Marcy Maguire at LGBTQ+ care?
Dr. Maguire didn't bat an eye when I explained why I was seeking care at RMA as an LGBTQ+ individual. She immediately detailed the numerous resources available at RMA that I could, and did, take advantage of over the course of my treatment.
Describe your experience with your nurse at RMA of New Jersey. (Assigned nurse: Alexis)
Alexis was my primary nurse and primary channel of communication. I often asked questions through the clinic's portal and within a couple of hours, she would follow up with both a message and a phone call to address the question and discuss any potential changes to treatment. Over all, she was simply awesome and made navigating treatment a breeze.
Describe your experience with RMA of New Jersey.
New patients should be prepared to be told that for their situation, RMA will typically do A, B, C, etc. It can be overwhelming to have the next few months of your life planned and dumped in front of you. New patients should also be prepared to advocate for themselves if they believe their treatment plan is not customized enough for them.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Marcy Maguire at RMA of New Jersey.
The entire course of treatment was covered by insurance. Office visits including ultrasounds and IUI had a $10 copay. Bloodwork was completely covered. There were no copays for the surgical center.

Success w/ Doc Too early to know
Dr. Maguire has been a game changer during this process. She’s kind and gentle but professional and informative. She calls me personally and always starts with a personal question (how was my weekend, how’s my husband doing, etc). I couldn’t be happier with her...is completely trustworthy in her explanations and changes to treatment plans...She will respond to emails...My first cycle was an antagonist protocol. It was unsuccessful. We changed to a microburst protocol for the second retrieval to allow for better quality eggs and that’s exactly what we got. She also recommended adding a specific folate supplement during the second ER.
The wait time and experience [during monitoring at RMA] varied, depending on the day. Some days, it was quiet and all moved quickly. On days when they were short staffed or there was a large crowd, it went more slowly...Because of the size of the practice, you may not see your reproductive endocrinologist for morning monitoring or have them during your procedures. There is a schedule on their website that outlines what doctor is on what day. It all depends on your timing.

As someone who's likes to know every aspect of my treatment, Dr. Maguire patiently dealt with a number of questions and erred on the side of detail. Our cycle timed with holidays and the doctor even called us back on an important holiday while spending precious time with her family. We could cite numerous such examples where she went above and beyond to address our anxiety and make us feel comfortable about the entire process.
[the nurse] was compassionate, prompt, proactive and always available to address any of our questions/ concerns...RMA only offers single embryo transfer. And the pros and cons explained to us about single embryo transfer aligned well with our needs...Everything is tightly controlled and well managed. Their schedules aligned well to our work schedules. One thing we wish for is that they had alt options to Basking Ridge facility for holidays and weekends.
How was your experience with Marcy Maguire at RMA of New Jersey?
"It may be my millionth, but I always remember that it's your first", those were Dr. Maguire's words when we thanked her for being patient with our questions. That line pretty much sums up her attitude and approach. While the process is emotional and painful at times, we have Dr. Maguire to thank for always staying informed. She was always there for us through the procedures and was happy to tweak the treatment plan to our preferences and schedule.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Marcy Maguire at RMA of New Jersey?
Don't ever shy away from having candid conversations about concerns, fears or familial goals with Dr. Maguire
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Marcy Maguire at RMA of New Jersey?
We moved to Dr. Maguire after consulting another doc at RMA, where we were made to feel like a number. RMA is a well oiled machine, great facilities and not a lot goes wrong in their coordination. Everything is tightly controlled and well managed. Their schedules aligned well to our work schedules. She [Dr. Maguire] seemed caring and she always discussed her plan in terms of research. She tried to provide honest recommendations based on my situation. She doesn't really take a holistic approach. There was some information that she could have provided earlier in the process that could have helped my outcome.... While she was good about explaining the diagnostic process and my diagnosis she did not really explain why she used the protocol and what she was trying to accomplish with each drug.
The clinic [RMA of NJ] functions like a well oiled machine in terms of the process. Completing the diagnostic test, egg retrieval and transfer.... There isn't a holistic approach. They do not ask about supplements and so I don't know if taking or not taking supplements impacted by results. They did not give me enough time to search for an affordable pharmacy which meant I used a recommended pharmacy. Glen Rock pharmacy is not managed well and not professional and and it caused a lot of added stress

She seemed caring and she always discussed her plan in terms of research. She tried to provide honest recommendations based on my situation. She doesn't really take a holistic approach. There was some information that she could have provided earlier in the process that could have helped my outcome.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Marcy Maguire at RMA of New Jersey?
Research and ask question. Ask why she is choosing some drugs over others.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Marcy Maguire at RMA of New Jersey?
She seemed to care about my situation and outcome. She followed-up a couple of times after the cycle failed. There doesn't seem like there is a lot of customization of protocols. Its not really a holistic approach to fertility treatment.
Describe the protocols Marcy Maguire used in your cycles at RMA of New Jersey and their degree of success.
High level of follistim, hCG and lupron. While she was good about explaining the diagnostic process and my diagnosis she did not really explain why she used the protocol and what she was trying to accomplish with each drug. I ended up with a lead follicle. Talking to others an reading articles, there may have been a better way to handle the lead follicle to allow other follicles to catch up.
Describe your experience with your nurse at RMA of New Jersey. (Assigned nurse: Rachel)
She tried to follow-up in timely manner. I had quite a few questions as the cycle progressed and she answered them throughly and explained why she provided the answer. Sometimes the transfer of information did not go smoothly when she was out of the office and another nurse was in charge of my case.
Describe your experience with RMA of New Jersey.
The clinic's monitoring hours were convenient. The clinic functions like a well oiled machine in terms of the process. Completing the diagnostic test, egg retrieval and transfer. They assigned modules before the egg retrieval that would have been helpful to review while completing the diagnostic tests so that i had a better sense of what would happen next and that could have helped me figure out more questions to ask in regards to my care. There isn't a holistic approach. They do not ask about supplements and so I don't know if taking or not taking supplements impacted by results. They did not give me enough time to search for an affordable pharmacy which meant I used a recommended pharmacy. Glen Rock pharmacy is not managed well and not professional and and it caused a lot of added stress. In addition, I felt the same way about GeneScreen for genetic counseling. For a professional and renowned institution one would think they were have more professional partners/affiliations .
Describe your experience with your monitoring appointments at RMA of New Jersey.
A times there were a lot of patients during monitoring hours. However, I always tried to arrive relatively early and I never had to wait too long. It was relatively close to my job so their hours in conjunction with my work hours worked well. On most days I did not have to wait long unless they were having staffing issues. However, West Orange does not have Saturday hours which is very inconvenient; all patients have to go to Basking Ridge and the wait is a little longer because everyone who goes to their other clinics are funneled to one facility.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Marcy Maguire at RMA of New Jersey.
I do not recall; it was a lot.

What specific things went wrong at RMA of New Jersey?
  • Failed to call in prescriptions to pharmacy
  • Provided conflicting information
Describe the specific things that went wrong at RMA of New Jersey.
The person who called my prescription to the pharmacy did not use my doctor's name and it caused confusion with the follistim discount. There was a slight communication breakdown at times when my nurse was out of the office.

Dr. Maguire is kind, patient, and will spend the time talking out all the different recommendations. She shows compassion and hasn’t given up on me...The doctors also do not believe in reproductive immunology...Dr Maguire’s bedside manner is kind and patient...High levels of stims to get the most eggs (said I needed it even though I was 31). When asked about it affecting quality of eggs she does not think so, other doctors may disagree.
Very nice staff [at RMA] overall, efficient check in process and morning monitoring that’s long enough to get to before work. Facilities are clean and all of the doctors are made up to speed on your records before meeting with you. It could feel factory like from time to time due to the size especially when visiting the basking ridge nj office. Overall it’s a good experience and really organized... morning monitoring hours.
How was your experience with Marcy Maguire at RMA of New Jersey?
Dr. Maguire is kind, patient, and will spend the time talking out all the different recommendations. She shows compassion and hasn’t given up on me. When I first started I was deemed a really easy case and got pregnant the first round but it ended in a missed miscarriage just before the first trimester was about to end and it was with a chromosomally normal embryo. I then went on to have a failed transfer and then an ectopic (which no one ever explained was possible through IVF). The doctors also do not believe in reproductive immunology.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Marcy Maguire at RMA of New Jersey?
Ask for all prospective outcomes even if you CCS test an embryo know that it doesn’t guarantee a pregnancy and won’t aid against a miscarriage.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Marcy Maguire at RMA of New Jersey?
Dr Maguire’s bedside manner is kind and patient
Describe the protocols Marcy Maguire used in your cycles at RMA of New Jersey and their degree of success.
High levels of stims to get the most eggs (said I needed it even though I was 31). When asked about it affecting quality of eggs she does not think so, other doctors may disagree. Transfer protocol is pretty typical estradiol and progesterone. Ask about a natural transfer. All of mine have been medicated and just found out I didn’t necessarily need that. Hysteroscopy should be done for all patients not just saline sonogram. All testing for blood clotting disorders and other auto immune tests should be done before first transfer not after a failure or miscarriage.
Describe your experience with your nurse at RMA of New Jersey. (Assigned nurse: Beth Harley)
My nurse support changed midway through my treatment. My support has been pretty good with the exception of some confusion once they had a new urologist start with them and had some issues with coordinating with this new doctor for my husband. Some tests slipped through the cracks but overall I have been well supported.

Describe the specific things that went wrong at RMA of New Jersey.
With the onboarding of a new urologist there were some hiccups when my husband began being treated with them. From appointments to semen analysis to scheduling next steps in a surgery. These appeared to be the results of just a new doctor and process merging into RMAs practice.

Dr. Maguire is the best doctor I have ever met. She saw something on my Fallopian tube and recommended removal before trying to have a baby. Her judgment was spot on- and her surgical skills remarkable. I had no pain from the surgery at all. She then made the process of having a healthy baby as an older mother smooth and seamless..
[my RMA of NJ nurse] was super organized and told me everything I needed to know and do...[monitoring appointments were very seamless. I went In before work and was out by 7 am...Strengths are the early morning hours. I was able to go before work each time so I didn’t have to take any days off of work. I also liked the privacy of the Clinic, they always covered your name when other people came so everyone could keep their activities private.

Dr Maguire made this process so much easier for me. I had so much faith in her as a Dr and I fully trusted her. She always had a smile on her face and answered all of our questions. She was great and I will be going back for her to do my next transfer after this pregnancy...I did not feel comfortable jumping to IVF yet so Dr Maguire gave me other options to try before we went down that route. I wish that I would have listened to her from the beginning!
Definitely try to be there early! Wait times [at RMA of NJ] can drag on Monday’s and Friday’s since it’s their busiest time. Lab techs are fantastic! Very quick and painless. I love that the Drs are the ones performing the ultrasounds so they can give you real time results...[nurse] Josephine was very helpful whenever I had a question. She was very responsive. I sometimes prefer a call versus the message on the portal but she was still a very good communicator.

Describe the specific things that went wrong at RMA of New Jersey.
I called the after hours line one night with bleeding and the Dr I spoke to mentioned she would put in an order for bloodwork and ultrasound at basking ridge the next day since it was a Saturday. When I arrived, they could not find the order. Luckily it was resolved fairly quickly.

Success w/ Doc Too early to know
She [Dr. Marcy Maguire] prefers to do single transfer...She seemed calm and happy, well adjusted, and patient...She made eye contact, spoke clearly and honestly, and fielded our many questions with patience. She was upfront about success rates, which are low for us, and which were not explained to us when we did IUI and IVF in the other clinics we went to...Gonal-F, Ganirelix, Menopure. Then Ovidrell and Luprolide for trigger.
The clinic [RMA of New Jersey] has ample parking and is easy to get to. The office is organized. I did this during the coronavirus pandemic, and they revised their check-in protocols to accommodate new safety measures (a little later than I would have liked but I was being hyper careful weeks before it became mainstream). They remember who I am, and are friendly. The nurses were able to find my veins!!!...The hours were adjusted because of the coronavirus, so there was a longer window of time than normal, which allowed less congestion. For this reason I didn't have to wait long. Still one time I did have to wait over 20 minutes in the room, as the person monitoring me was on a patient call.

Dr Maguire is thoughtful and always ready to answer any questions I had about the process...During treatment, I have sent emails with questions and she would call me the same day to answer them. She was not able to perform my egg retrievals, but performed my transfer. She is highly skilled and competent with procedures...First cycle involved antagonist protocol, which is commonly used initially. I required max dose meds as I was slow and poor to respond. Resulted in 1 PGS normal embryo Second cycle was micro dose lupron flare protocol, ideally for those with DOR, which resulted in more eggs, but no PGS normal embryo...
The staff, nurses, and doctors [RMA of NJ] are highly skilled and knowledgeable...They are very by the book and aren't really open to new or innovative treatments right off the bat though...You will feel like a number and especially during morning monitoring, you will feel that the staff are just there to get you in and out. It does make sense due to the number of patients they see...They only offer morning monitoring, but had numerous locations which was convenient when I had to go to monitoring before work...

Abi is wonderful. She is very knowledgeable with the whole process. Spends time answering questions and offers reassurance when needed. She is easy to contact via email and answers questions promptly.
Describe your experience with RMA of New Jersey.
RMA is highly reputable, but also a very busy place. You will feel like a number and especially during morning monitoring, you will feel that the staff are just there to get you in and out. It does make sense due to the number of patients they see. The staff, nurses, and doctors are highly skilled and knowledgeable. I think RMA is the place for fertility treatment if you really want success. They are very by the book and aren't really open to new or innovative treatments right off the bat though. I would like to think with my success, there was also a little luck involved.

From the day I met dr. Maguire I trusted her 100%. Super personable, knowledgeable, professional, confident and humble. Out of 3 transfers she did 2 and both resulted in pregnancy...We could not be more happier with her care; her diagnosis and treatment were spot on, no adjustments no change of protocol or medication. We are forever grateful.
I think the [RMA of New Jersey] clinic is run well and professional. At times overcrowded but It did not affect the quality and care I received. Everyone seems to know what they are doing. From doctors, nurses through billing department and front desk staff. I have to compliment the acupuncture staff, they were excellent.

She is very passionate in what she does. She was very sensitive and attentive to us during our long and hard journey. We felt she is like a friend to us sharing our hardships and joy...recommended IVF treatment again and she was right. After first IVF transfer, we got successful. Now we are pregnant and happy with joy... treated us as a family. Always attentive, always sensitive to our fears and needs.
front desk and nurses were absolutely wonderful [at RMA of New Jersey]. Friendly and attentive. Small setback is mondays and fridays as it is a small center so you might encounter longer wait times. But the friendly faces make the wait easier...After first IVF transfer, we got successful. Now we are pregnant and happy with joy!
How was your experience with Marcy Maguire at RMA of New Jersey?
She is very passionate in what she does. She was very sensitive and attentive to us during our long and hard journey. We felt she is like a friend to us sharing our hardships and joy. She recommended us IVF right from the start based on our diagnosis but because of financial situation, we chose other option as IUI. After several attempts, Marcy Maguire recommended IVF treatment again and she was right. After first IVF transfer, we got successful. Now we are pregnant and happy with joy!

Our process was for about 2,5 years. 6 IUIs and 1 IVF. Primarily we used Follistim. Didn't record all meds i had to take as had clear instructions in patient portal and didn't feel the need to record.
Describe your experience with your nurse at RMA of New Jersey. (Assigned nurse: Josephine Zezza)
I had 2 nurses along my journey. First nurse stopped working during pandemic but she was great and communicated with me via phone primarily. Second nurse, Josephine, communicated with me via emails. I like both nurses. My preference was email communication as i work second shift and it was easier to get the information on time for me.
Describe your experience with RMA of New Jersey.
i think that location is smth that i didn't consider first but became very important when i had to go early in the morning for monitoring. As it was early times of the day , plus frequent visits, the close location of clinic worked very well. Secondly, front desk and nurses were absolutely wonderful. Friendly and attentive. Small setback is mondays and fridays as it is a small center so you might encounter longer wait times. But the friendly faces make the wait easier :)
Describe the costs associated with your care under Marcy Maguire at RMA of New Jersey.
All my IUI treatments were paid by my health insurance except co-pay of $50 medications (around 500$ each time). IVF treatment approximately came to 25K.
Describe Marcy Maguire's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at RMA of New Jersey.
Yes, my doctor wanted to do only a single embryo transfer after genetic testing.

She [Dr. Maguire] spent extra time answering my questions and allowed me to express my anxiousness about the process...I was very nervous about IVF and she talked me though it answering my questions. She made me realize IVF was the only option because of low sperm out. She helped me get off the fence about and so far I am happy with the results and feel fortunate...
Norma [nurse at RMA of New Jersey] was great. She was very clear with instructions, and answered my questions in a timely manner. She is also very patient and friendly. All the nurses seemed this way. I was taken care of well...There were a few long waits but these things happen. You go to the clinic a lot so it can’t be perfect timing all the time. Bring a sweater; AC can be intense. Everyone was apologetic when it took a long time during morning monitoring...
