Dr. Brady is phenomenal. She takes her time explaining the various treatment options and always encouraged me to ask all my questions. She has also been through the IVF process herself which in my opinion adds more weight to her professional advice...I will be starting the IVF process with her soon and she has been wonderful about answering my questions and making sure I know what to expect before we start. During a break from treatment, I experienced a spontaneous pregnancy which ended in a miscarriage and she was very supportive while I grieved.
staff [at Columbia University] is lovely. The entire office staff excellent at their job. During the morning monitoring hours you can see countless people come in and things always run very smoothly...In the roughly 8 months I have been coming to this office I have encountered numerous doctors and nurses and they have all been incredible professional. The nurses seem to love what they do and the physicians all seem to genuinely care.

I was and am overall happy with my experience with Dr. Brady. She was always willing to listen to my thoughts and adjust the protocol. She would answer every question I have. She is also compassionate and treats you like a human being...Started with a traditional antagonist protocol; trying a long protocol in the second round...Dr. Brady answered every single question I had without neglecting any.
The [Columbia University] strength is that it's a reputable institution. The weakness is that the care team keeps changing and often disorganized. It is also annoying that there isn't a direct number to reach out to the care team...My nurse was generally OK with communication but was often out and I was assigned to a different nurse and the communication wasn't always smooth. I had an incident where a substitute nurse mixed up the medications/protocols which was pretty upsetting. The care coordinator (Diamond) barely did anything and wasn't super communicative.

With Dr. Brady, I felt heard. She showed a lot of care and attention, and shared my sadness with a negative outcome. Columbia Fertility Clinic functions very efficiently. One of my concern before starting my cycle is how will I go for bloodworks monitoring with my work schedule. The clinic opens at 7am this allows me to come in then head to work. Most important they are very on time. Another plus is you are able to schedule your appoinment via their portal...Nurse Angela is wonderful. She's very good with replying to your email and addressing your concerns.

We started with IUI's, we completely two but they failed. Then the pandemic hit and I left New York to be in London with my family. She counselled me and gave me a second opinion on my IVF procedures in the UK, constantly sharing my tests results with her. When i returned to the US she requested we do another couple of tests. Another HSG to check for blocked tube with fluid and a receptiva biopsy to check for inflammation caused by endometriosis. She then treated me with Lupron after the tests suggested i had endometriosis which resulted in a successful pregnancy.

Dr. Brady is the most responsive doctor I've ever worked with. She answers direct emails quickly giving you the peace of mind you need right away. She was also always extremely thorough during appointments and noticed a few important things for me along the way including remaining uterine septum (recommending an additional hysteroscopy) and polyps on my uterus prior to a frozen embryo transfer...
The staff at Columbia Fertility are generally very nice. You rarely ever have a wait time which is always good. The one thing I don't love is that the doctor's work on a rotation so you don't always get to see your primary Dr. for things...Dr. Brady is the most responsive doctor I've ever worked with. She answers direct emails quickly giving you the peace of mind you need right away...
How was your experience with Paula Brady at Columbia University?
I have been a patient of Dr. Brady at Columbia Fertility for about a year and a half during which time I had gone through 4 rounds of IVF (2 of which under Dr. Brady's care). She is very kind and patient but most importantly, she is responsive. She provides you with her direct email right away and responds to every email very quickly. Due to male factor infertility and low ovarian reserve, our first round of IVF only resulted in one embryo to blastocyst with multiple chromosomal abnormalities. Dr. Brady then referred my husband to a urologist who recommended surgically removing sperm to be frozen. Our second round of IVF with Dr. Brady resulted in 3 embryos to blastocyst, one of which was genetically normal and frozen. During IVF, Dr. Brady is not always the one to do your morning monitoring appointments but usually made it a point to see me at least once prior to egg retrieval (but would still answer questions along the way if I had any). The frustrating thing about Columbia is that you don't always get your doctor doing the retrieval because they're on a rotation, so I never did experience a retrieval with Dr. Brady. After our second round of IVF, we had hoped to bank an additional embryo. At that time, Dr. Brady left for maternity leave which ultimately led me to try out two different doctors (one at another clinic). We did not get any more embryos to blastocyst between those 2 additional rounds. Ultimately, upon Dr. Brady's return from leave, we went back to see her to prepare for a frozen embryo transfer with the one and only viable embryo we had. She noticed right away that I had a polyp on my uterus and was able to quickly schedule me for a hysteroscapy which she made sure was on her personal schedule. We then went through the steps ahead of our FET which we were also luckily able to schedule on a day that she would be there. She was so kind and patient during the FET process and maintained a positive attitude that put me at ease. I received a positive pregnancy test and am now 9 weeks along. She made sure to see me personally during every single ultrasound appointment and scheduled me in for extra visits after noticing a hematoma on the placenta that caused some bleeding. Overall, aside from some frustrations with the Columbia Fertility clinic as a whole, I couldn't recommend Dr. Brady more.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Paula Brady at Columbia University?
While Dr. Brady is extremely responsive and thorough, know that Columbia Fertility works on a rotation so you won't always see her for IVF monitoring, egg retrievals or embryo transfers.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Paula Brady at Columbia University?
Dr. Brady is the most responsive doctor I've ever worked with. She answers direct emails quickly giving you the peace of mind you need right away. She was also always extremely thorough during appointments and noticed a few important things for me along the way including remaining uterine septum (recommending an additional hysteroscopy) and polyps on my uterus prior to a frozen embryo transfer.
Describe your experience with Columbia University.
The staff at Columbia Fertility are generally very nice. You rarely ever have a wait time which is always good. The one thing I don't love is that the doctor's work on a rotation so you don't always get to see your primary Dr. for things.

Dr. Brady has been amazing! She is knowledgeable, patient and compassionate. She would explain my situations and treatment plans in detail. Describe Paula Brady's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Columbia University.
We didn't do multiple embryo transfer because Dr. Brady recommended not to. I understood her concerns but to be honest I would really like to do multiple embryo transfer for my next pregnancy given what we had experienced this time. (nothing negative at all, just want to increase our chances)

I never actually met Dr. Brady but know that she was reviewing my results and honestly, it was less important to me the particular person I was talking to, and more that someone I trusted was monitoring my treatment plan...If you care a lot about working primarily/only with this doctor, this may not be the right choice for you. She was more behind the scenes in my scenario...
It's [Columbia University] a very efficient clinic so they move quickly but did always follow up with me and were available for questions. Responses via email were quick and thorough...Usually in and out in 30-45 minutes total for the monitoring appointments which I thought was pretty fair. Centrally located by Columbus Circle Scheduling was easy and I appreciate that you can just email your care team directly and not go through some junky portal...

Dr. Brady is one of the best fertility doctors you can find! Both me and my husband enjoyed working with her! 1/ Evidence-based approach: Dr. Brady...was interested in investigating the root causes to improve the results...2/ Communication: Dr. Brady is an excellent communicator. During our treatment, she was able to explain the treatment option and pros and cons well. Dr. Brady also responded to our emails promptly (even late at night!) and provided us with the medical and emotional support we needed. We felt like we were in good hands throughout and will definitely keep in touch with her! 3/ Results: We did one round of embryo freezing and transfer and both of them were successful. I am now 12 weeks pregnant :)
Another thing I love about the CUFC was the team members. The nurses and care coordinator were competent, compassionate and great to work with...has very efficient operations. Check-in, wait for 5-10 mins and do blood tests and ultrasounds. I was usually out the door within 20 mins. All the staff were nice and pleasant to work with...no billing or scheduling problems). They were open to working with embryos from another clinic.
How was your experience with Paula Brady at Columbia University?
Dr. Brady is one of the best fertility doctors you can find! Both me and my husband enjoyed working with her! 1/ Evidence-based approach: Dr. Brady was our second fertility doctor. We have done two embryo freezing cycles with the previous doctor but our success rate was low. (only one healthy embryo from the two rounds). Unfortunately, our previous doctor didn’t seem interested in conducting a further investigation or modifying the protocol based on test or treatment results. On the other hand, Dr. Brady was interested in investigating the root causes to improve the results. After our first meeting, Dr. Brady had my partner do an additional test and found out that there is also a male factor to our infertility in addition to the egg quality issue from my age. Based on this result and additional input from a male fertility specialist, she was able to change the protocol and get a successful result. 2/ Communication: Dr.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Paula Brady at Columbia University?
You may not see Dr. Brady in person as much but I wouldn’t worry about that too much. Other doctors did our retrieval and transfer but all the doctors at CUFC were wonderful.
Describe the protocols Paula Brady used in your cycles at Columbia University and their degree of success.
1/ Sperm testing: Found higher DNA fragmentation and did a consultation and more testing with a male fertility specialist 2/ 1 round of embryo freezing: modified stimulation protocol (lower dosage of medications based on my race - eastern asian female) + the microfluidics chip to select sperm 3/ 1 round of embryo transfer using the embryo from another clinic Natural cycle, Ovidrel 250 mcg #1 PFS (trigger shot), Progesterone until week 10 of pregnancy

I was very happy with my experience with the clinic. Great location, beautiful office and efficient operations. (I loved going for a walk in Central Park after my treatment, no billing or scheduling problems). They were open to working with embryos from another clinic.

Success w/ Doc Too early to know
Dr. Brady was warm, caring, and answered all of my questions during our initial consultation....After my initial consultation, I didn't receive any direct communication from Dr. Brady, and I couldn't always tell the bloodwork / ultrasound scans she was reviewing (vs. another doctor or nurse)...It took only three cycles to get pregnant (my first cycle resulted in a chemical pregnancy, and second cycle resulted in a negative pregnancy test).
Generally, I felt that the nursing staff [at Columbia] was organized and communicative...It wasn't always clear to me when my prescriptions should have been called in; during at least one cycle, I reached out to my medication coordinator to proactively request that my medications be prescribed. She was very responsive, and prescriptions were always called in promptly when I reached out, but I wasn't sure when exactly the prescriptions would have been called in had I not been proactive.

Generally, I felt that the nursing staff was organized and communicative. During one cycle following a chemical pregnancy, the nurse assigned to me was a bit confused about where I was with respect to my second cycle, but we were able to clarify and figure things out within 30 minutes.
Describe your experience with Columbia University.
Strengths: results! The physicians are smart and knowledgable. Many of the nurses are compassionate, friendly, and supportive (Jenny is amazing!). Weaknesses: there's a bit of a factory feeling. This is a strength, in the sense that morning monitoring appointments were very, very efficient (I never felt like my time was being wasted, and never waited more than 10 minutes in the waiting area). But it's also a weakness, in that I wasn't always sure whether my doctor was reviewing my bloodwork and ultrasound results (vs. another doctor at the clinic or member of the nursing staff). Ultimately, Columbia helped me get pregnant twice, and it's difficult to argue with results, especially when the process itself was generally very smooth and straight-forward.
What specific things went wrong at Columbia University?
  • Failed to call in prescriptions to pharmacy

Describe the specific things that went wrong at Columbia University.
It wasn't always clear to me when my prescriptions should have been called in; during at least one cycle, I reached out to my medication coordinator to proactively request that my medications be prescribed. She was very responsive, and prescriptions were always called in promptly when I reached out, but I wasn't sure when exactly the prescriptions would have been called in had I not been proactive.

Dr. Brady is warm and compassionate, she delivered hard news gently and provided next courses of action. She is very informative, which my partner and I really appreciated, when we had questions, she would provide as much detail as possible in a way that was easy to digest...We ended up indeed needing to go the IVF route, but Dr. Brady investigated, which my partner and I really appreciated, it gave us the why/context of what was going on.
The [Columbia University] clinic itself seems new and very clean. It's calming walking in and they tend to keep it such that it's never too busy...Everything is brightly lit and in the waiting room there's always nice instrumental pop music playing...In the back, where the retrieval and transfers take place, there's privacy and a level of calm I greatly appreciated. There are also some snacks and coconut water/regular water.
How was your experience with Paula Brady at Columbia University?
Dr. Brady did what other practitioners did not, she tried to understand what was going on that would lead us to coming to her in the first place. Other doctors my partner and I had gone to didn't bother digging and just said IVF was the only solution. We ended up indeed needing to go the IVF route, but Dr. Brady investigated, which my partner and I really appreciated, it gave us the why/context of what was going on. And that was before we even got started with treatment. Dr. Brady is warm and compassionate, she delivered hard news gently and provided next courses of action. She is very informative, which my partner and I really appreciated, when we had questions, she would provide as much detail as possible in a way that was easy to digest (for non-medical people). Whenever she was in the NYC location, she would make time to see us if we were at the clinic. She really made my partner and me feel taken care of, that we didn't have to worry about being our own advocates in a world we were unfamiliar with.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Paula Brady at Columbia University?
If you're in the NYC location, do not worry that you won't see her in person too much (the staff at the clinic are wonderful), you're still in a really great hands and she's available via email to answer questions.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Paula Brady at Columbia University?
Throughout treatment, Dr. Brady and the staff at the fertility center were incredibly warm and caring. Dr. Brady also made herself available via email and was responsive, answering questions big and small at every step. Dr. Brady was very easy to speak with about any concerns we had. She never rushed our time together and it felt like we had her undivided attention when she was speaking with us. Everything felt very much catered to our needs and unique circumstances.
Describe the protocols Paula Brady used in your cycles at Columbia University and their degree of success.
For the first round of retrieval, Gonal F 400 IU SQ daily and Low Dose HCG 20 units per evening. This produced an abundance of eggs, but no viable embryos. So for the second round of retrieval, if I recall, the doctor was looking for slightly less aggressive stimulation. It was Letrozole 5mg daily, Gonal F 225 IU SQ daily, and Menopur 75 IU SQ daily. This produced slightly fewer eggs (though not by much), and three viable embryos.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at Columbia University.
So warm and caring!! Everyone always had a smile and were encouraging during each visit. They made me feel very cared for and were so sympathetic during the IVF cycles when I mentioned any discomfort.
Describe your experience with Columbia University.
The clinic itself seems new and very clean. It's calming walking in and they tend to keep it such that it's never too busy. Sometimes it can get a little crowded, but my typical visit did not feel busy at all. Everything is brightly lit and in the waiting room there's always nice instrumental pop music playing. They have water available and some charging stations throughout. In the back, where the retrieval and transfers take place, there's privacy and a level of calm I greatly appreciated. There are also some snacks and coconut water/regular water.
Describe your experience with your monitoring appointments at Columbia University.
Monitoring windows started early enough in the mornings that it never disrupted my schedule, it just meant an earlier morning than usual. The process was very efficient and was easy to follow, making for a quick visit usually, in and out in 15 minutes or so typically.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Paula Brady at Columbia University.
Luckily, insurance covered a lot of the expenses, but it was still quite expensive! We ended up having to genetic testing due to our specific circumstances, so that was more or less out of pocket and costed about $3,000 each time. Our copay for visits were $40. The medications also ended up piling up quite a bit, some going for $100 or so. And for us, after one year, storage for frozen embryos is charged, though I'm forgetting the amount, but I believe it's around $1000.
Describe Paula Brady's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Columbia University.
It was recommended not to do multiple embryo transfer due to risks of multiple pregnancy.

I really couldn't say enough about Dr. Brady. She is an extremely intelligent doctor. She was thorough and made additional workup recommendations that were outside of the norm to be certain we were covering all of our bases. Beyond her ability and skills as a doctor, her personality makes the experience so much smoother. She is kind, compassionate and empathetic. I can not emphasize more how responsive she is. I never felt left hanging or that I couldn't get in touch with her or the practice. She kept me up to speed every step of the way! Dr. Brady is truly amazing at what she does and I would recommend her to anyone struggling with infertility.
The [Columbia University] clinic is BEYOND efficient. I rarely waited more than a few minutes. From the MA's doing blood draws to the different physicians doing my ultrasounds, I truly felt I was in the best hands. I have nothing negative to say about the clinic...Angela was a great nurse coordinator. She primarily communicated with me by e-mail which worked for me. She updated me on results and next steps in a timely fashion.

Describe the costs associated with your care under Paula Brady at Columbia University.
We have a specialty fertility insurance called Progyny which Dr. Brady's practice accepts. We were grateful to have minimal costs associated with our care.
Describe Paula Brady's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Columbia University.
Dr. Brady strongly recommended eSET for me. I will be a higher risk pregnancy and she did not think it would be the safest option to have multiples. She reiterated the goal of one IVF cycle is one healthy life birth. I am very glad she recommended this.

Dr.Brady is very experienced and professional in fertility area...With Dr.Brady's help, we got success at the first trial of timely intercourse, which is totally beyond our expectation...The surprising success is totally due to her accurate judgement on when I needed to come to the office for blood work & Sono to check the growth of the egg, and when I should get the medication. I'm now pregnant for 38+ weeks and looking forward to the baby born...
The [Columbia University] clinic is very well organized. For every visit, I might need to wait for 10mins before taken in, which is reasonable and acceptable. All staff there are very nice and show compassion to the patients...The nursing staff sent out the testing results & instructions always on time. They are always reachable and answered all my questions with clear explanations...Dr.Brady helped us to get pregnant successfully with one timed intercourse treatment
How was your experience with Paula Brady at Columbia University?
Dr.Brady is very experienced and professional in fertility area. I had irregular ovulation problem for nearly 3 years, went to see multiple GYN doctors but didn't figure out the root cause. My partner and I had tried naturally to have a baby for a year with no success. With Dr.Brady's help, we got success at the first trial of timely intercourse, which is totally beyond our expectation. Because of the persistent ovulation problem , we were prepared for a few rounds of IUI and IVF, and didn't expect we can have problem solved with only one simple timed intercourse treatment. The surprising success is totally due to her accurate judgement on when I needed to come to the office for blood work & Sono to check the growth of the egg, and when I should get the medication. I'm now pregnant for 38+ weeks and looking forward to the baby born.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Paula Brady at Columbia University?
Dr.Brady diagnosed our examine results and based on our situation she suggested us to try timed intercourse for a few times before going into IVF, which is much less painful though the general success rate is lower than IVF. She even didn't recommend IUI and was very transparent that for our situation, IUI would not help more than timed intercourse, which is easier for us.

I had irregular ovulation issue with unexplained reason. Dr.Brady helped us to get pregnant successfully with one timed intercourse treatment

Dr. Brady is that she was never the one to end our conversations—she paused and allowed space for me to bring them to an end...She holistically and fully considered all aspects of my care—including referring me to other specialists based on concerns and test results. She took my thoughts and opinions seriously and explored new avenues in diagnostics that were not previously mentioned. Overall, she put my mind at ease because I trusted her and felt she had my best interests at heart....
It's a group practice [Columbia University], so even though Dr. Brady manages your care, you will see other physicians and technicians. The facilities are very nice and modern, and there is a new Westchester location, which is convenient for those in the northern suburbs...My one snafu during my time with Dr. Brady is when I had an MRI scheduled at a collaborating hospital. The appointment was confirmed the week before, but the day before I was due to go in, the hospital called and said they didn't have insurance approval. I don't know where there was an error in communication (hospital, clinic, insurance), but I ended up fielding and making lots of calls back and forth between the hospital, the clinic, my insurance for the rest of the day...
How was your experience with Paula Brady at Columbia University?
I came to Dr. Brady after three missed miscarriages and seeing one other RE, which ended up being a less than positive experience. She holistically and fully considered all aspects of my care—including referring me to other specialists based on concerns and test results. She took my thoughts and opinions seriously and explored new avenues in diagnostics that were not previously mentioned. Overall, she put my mind at ease because I trusted her and felt she had my best interests at heart.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Paula Brady at Columbia University?
I highly recommend Dr. Brady. One thing to note is that Columbia is a group practice, so you will see other physicians and technicians even though Dr. Brady manages your care.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Paula Brady at Columbia University?
Dr. Brady is an intelligent and informed physician who is also thoughtful and compassionate. She listened and responded to my questions and concerns with patience and consideration. I had previously seen another statistically-driven RE who brushed things off, said issues were in my head, caused me to question whether test results were accurate, and had a hand on the door while I was still talking—the definition of medical gaslighting. One thing I always noticed with Dr. Brady is that she was never the one to end our conversations—she paused and allowed space for me to bring them to an end.
Describe the protocols Paula Brady used in your cycles at Columbia University and their degree of success.
Given my history of recurrent miscarriage, Dr. Brady closely followed my last pregnancy from the very beginning and prescribed levothyroxine when my TSH levels came back higher than ideal and later added progesterone when those numbers dropped. I was hesitant to take them, and it's hard to say if either made a difference or if those fluctuations were normal for me and my body. Dr. Brady listened and patiently explained her reasoning, which let me feel in control of and more comfortable with the decision to follow her recommendation. I am currently holding my two-month-old, so everything worked out in the end.

The appointment ended up being cancelled right before approval came through, but it was too late to put it back on the calendar because the offices closed. I called the next day and got squeezed in, so it worked out, but it was an unnecessarily stressful 24 hour period when I needed to fit the MRI in during an appropriate time of my cycle.

How was your experience with Paula Brady at Columbia University?
Overall, if you're planning to go to a fertility clinic in NYC, I feel you need to be prepared that the clinics are high volume, and many patients are there for "cautionary" procedures and not intending to have a child at this moment. I also feel you need to quickly understand and be OK with the fact that there are not answers for every single question. Many fertility issues/complications don't have a straight answer. When I first met Dr. Brady, I thought she seemed very knowledgeable and friendly. When we learned that my husband had a rare sperm count, I felt the office's delivery of that message could have used some TLC. From that point forward though, we had regular communication, very often coming directly from Dr. Brady. I always felt she had my best medical and family interests at heart. She always gave me as much information as she could and left the decision to me. It also helped me that she has been through IVF herself and could relate to my experience. I leave her practice feeling very close to her, almost a friend, and I will miss her.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Paula Brady at Columbia University?
No matter who you see, you must understand that the doctor will not have all the answers. No doctor will. You have to accept the unknowns and have faith in your doctor. I trusted Dr. Brady wholeheartedly.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Paula Brady at Columbia University?
I feel very close to Dr. Brady at this point. She knows my situation intimately, she is supportive of my needs, and always makes me feel confident in her decision making. I truly feel like she cares about me, my health and well being, and my family goals. I email her with any question, and she is quick and thoughtful with a response.
Describe the protocols Paula Brady used in your cycles at Columbia University and their degree of success.
I did 2 egg retrievals with embryo freezing and genetic testing. Resulting in 7 embryos, and an additional 1 embryo double tested. I also did 5 transfers. My first transfer used hormone injections, and my 2nd through 5th transfers followed my natural cycle, with a trigger shot. I became pregnant on my 2nd, 4th, and 5th transfers. My 4th transfer resulted in a miscarriage, and the other 2 were successful (1 still active).

Dr. Brady directly answered all of my emails and questions in a sensitive and caring way. She catered my treatment not to me as a patient, but to me as a person, and my fear of needles. She is personable, and never makes you feel rushed or condescended.
Describe the protocols Paula Brady used in your cycles at Columbia University and their degree of success.
I was nervous about IVF daily self injections. Dr. Brady eased my worries by letting me know how tiny the needles are, and allowing me to mix my medications so that instead of two daily injections I could just do one. She suggested tests that might be beneficial to do before my transfer, and when I expressed that I didn’t want to go through another test she did not push me at all and completely understood my choice. She lets you work with her in your plan and journey, and completely puts you at ease.
