I have complete confidence in Peter Uzelac and is why I chose him. He is efficient and very knowledge. He also adjusts as needed and was very patient when we had a lot of questions or wanted to add something (i.e. testing) into our treatment. I think that more information in general about next steps could be shared. We had to be proactive in asking a lot of questions...
[Marin Fertility] Clinic is busy. They were undergoing renovation too during the time I was there, but the new rooms are nice. I like that they also have a lab onsite and that you get to talk to the lab technician after transfer...I felt like my treatment was pretty standard despite the clinic saying that each person gets specialized clinic...[nurses] They seemed very busy and a bit overworked.

What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Peter Uzelac at Marin Fertility?
Be prepared to ask a lot of questions.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Peter Uzelac at Marin Fertility?
The doctor is very responsive but is busy. When talking with him on the phone, he answers all questions in a direct and helpful manner. Clinic is busy so you do start to feel like a clinic/number, but I think the doctor is great! When there with a nurse too, felt like they were nice.
Describe the protocols Peter Uzelac used in your cycles at Marin Fertility and their degree of success.
I felt like my treatment was pretty standard despite the clinic saying that each person gets specialized clinic. I did egg retrieval and frozen transfer. For the transfer protocol, I was on estrace (pill) three times a day for about 2.5 weeks and then I added a vaginal pogesterone 3 times per day, and a morning medrol pill with a shot of progesterone (1000 mg IM) every other night for about another 2.5 weeks before the transfer. For egg retrieval, I did 225 IU gonal F shot, a 150 IU shot of menopur, and 10 mg of provera everynight up to retrieval with cetrodtide starting before retrieval day with a trigger shot.
Describe your experience with your nurse at Marin Fertility. (Assigned nurse: Sabrina and then Leaha)
They seemed very busy and a bit overworked. In person, they were always nice and communicative. I did have to email them a few times to get things like my calendar for medication that I wish I didn't have to do. They did seem caring.

Clinic is busy. They were undergoing renovation too during the time I was there, but the new rooms are nice. I like that they also have a lab onsite and that you get to talk to the lab technician after transfer. The covid protocols were necessary but a bit challenging. I like that they also work with you to come in on the days you need to be there based on blood results (i.e. not set days of the week).
Describe the costs associated with your care under Peter Uzelac at Marin Fertility.
It was great for egg freezing - package deal for around $6,000k through a special service where a lot of the instruction was via video. For the egg retrival and frozen transfer a few years later, it was about $35,000 for testing, ICIS, freezing, retrieval, and transfer.
Describe Peter Uzelac's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Marin Fertility.
I appreciated him doing only one embryo transfer as we didn't want twins, especially given my age of 40 and risk of complications during pregnancy. I also appreciated that we had the PGTA testing too so we knew which embryo to transfer.
What specific things went wrong at Marin Fertility?
  • Failed to call in prescriptions to pharmacy
  • Lost appointments
Describe the specific things that went wrong at Marin Fertility.
Once they called in the prescription to the wrong pharmacy and I was already at Walgreens. I called the Clinic and they immediately called it into the Walgreens.

Dr. Uzelac is good at what he does. He was able to explain what our options were and walk us through the process. We are thankful that after an egg retrieval and implantation, it worked on the first try. We are currently 22 weeks pregnant!... Our medication cost were expensive and it was not discussed with us that it was separate from our original estimate...Make sure you ask questions ahead of time regarding cost and if all medication is included in treatment.
The cost of IVF and PGS [at Marin Fertility] were around $24,000. This did not include medication...Strengths - Dr. Uzelac and the nurses...Areas of improvement - communication when beginning the process and overall costs of medication Additionally, since you pay for everything up front, there should be some discussion around what happens with the cost should you choose to stop at anytime...The nurses were fantastic when I was on site. They could have communicated better before I started the process. I had a hard time getting a hold of the nurse responsible for setting up my treatment.

Dr. Uzelac's strengths were that he listened to my concerns, and explained processes if I asked how things worked. DR. Uzelac did not explain processes until I specifically asked. He did not provide me with actual test result information unless I asked.... I was on an antagonist protocol. Started the cycle with birth control pills. Then Started injections of 225 Gonal F and 75 Menopur; added Cetrotide on day 6. Total stimulation for 8 days. Retrieved 6 eggs, all fertilized. Only 1 made to 5 day blast. Tested abnormal for PGS. No embryos were transferred.
The clinic [Marin Fertility Center] has an onsite embryology lab, which is great.... IVF Cycle: $10,225 Labs: $7,765 ICSI, Blast culture, Biopsy up to 8 embryos, freeze, store 1 year, 1 FET Embryo Biopsy Analysis $1875 Analysis of 8 embryos, $185 ea after Sperm Services $800 Sperm ID, Sperm Freeze Total: $20,665.... When I was ordering progesterone there was a bit of a snafu with the pharmacy where they did not have my information. But I think it was probably the pharmacy's fault. The same pharmacy switched me from Gonal F to Follistim and did not inform my clinic so they could modify my instructions.
