Dr. clisham is very attentive. He performs all his own procedures and is present every step of the way. He calls me personally with all lab reports and takes the time to explain every step of the way and answer any questions. He is patient, kind, thoughtful and genuinely cares about his patients...He has discussed with my husband and I that should we move forward with IVF he will only transfer 1 embryo at a time but that the payment for the procedure covers two transfers in case the first is not successful
Approx 1700 per cycle and then there are additional charges for meds etc...It’s extremely cold in the [FINO] clinic. Bring a sweater, socks…etc to stay warm while in the waiting room and during your procedure. Parking is often difficult and the lot is often full. Arrive early for your appointment...They are all very kind, friendly, and thoughtful
How was your experience with Paul Clisham at Fertility Institute of New Orleans?
Dr. Clisham is fantastic. He is great at explaining the process, educating his patients, and answering any and all questions. He is present for and performs all procedures himself for his patients. I saw him for every visit I had with him. He personally called my husband and I to explain every lab result. He has a hands on approach that makes his patients feel like people not numbers.

I had a history of OHSS and he was very thoughtful with my treatment to ensure that I did not experience OHSS that resulted in miscarriage again. While in treatment, he checked on me frequently and had a very hands on approach to ensure he was getting the desired results

On one or two occasions I have had to call back and follow up on results when the nurses have failed to do so or have not returned my calls. But these instances are very few.

Dr. Clisham was great at the beginning of the treatment plan. He explained everything in detail to me. During the course of treatment, I asked him to be more involved during the nursing instructions because I was getting confusing information. At one point towards the end of my time at the clinic, Dr. Clisham accused me of having a "pity party" after I was voicing to him my concerns about the nurses mistreatment to me. This drove a wedge between the doctor-patient relationship and lead me to seek care elsewhere.
[Fertility Institute of New Orleans is] Always disorganized. Never answers the phone. Calls back and leaves messages that are not in align with the plan. Does not communicate with doctor about plan. Rude to me in the clinic. On multiple occasions accused me of doing something wrong in the planning or not being "available enough" to schedule things...the clinic is so poorly run that it is impossible to feel like you have support when you go to this clinic. Feeling supported makes a huge difference!

Told me I needed to send in screen shots of my conversation with the doctor so they can had the plans on record. Isn't that what the office is for? For nurses and doctors to communicate about the plans?

You can tell he [Dr. Clisham] is continuously studying even years into his career...always took the time to call me personally. Even if the nurse had already called and updated me, he would call sometimes at 8pm just to check in and explain things himself...He is so caring...explains everything thoroughly so that we understand both why he is suggesting certain treatments and then the risks/no risks involved in them. I always felt like he knew who I was and what was going on the second I spoke with him each call or visit. He called numerous times when he didn’t need to (because the nurse already had) to check in and explain things himself.
I just think in any situation like this, you need to advocate for yourself. I don’t think it’s a clinic fault. The staff [at Fertility Institute of New Orleans] tries to explain things the best they know how but if you don’t ask specifics, they may just think you already know. Luckily the give tons of paperwork explaining everything which is nice to have to look over down the road...Dr. Clisham always took the time to call me personally. How was your experience with Paul Clisham at Fertility Institute of New Orleans?
Dr. Clisham is incredibly kind, patient, and enthusiastic about his goal of assisting me to get pregnant and, eventually, to stay pregnant. He is careful to prescribe only the treatment that he thinks I need based on my own situation. He is knowledgeable about my case every time I see him. He is clear in explaining why he will choose one medication over another based on me-- not just comparing me to every other patient. He answers me at all hours of the day and night. Infertility is difficult and emotional, and my journey has been made easier with Dr. Clisham helping to guide me.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Paul Clisham at Fertility Institute of New Orleans?
To never be afraid to ask him any question at all at any time. He is clear and thorough and will never make you feel ashamed to ask any question, no matter how simple you think it may be.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Paul Clisham at Fertility Institute of New Orleans?
Dr. Clisham goes out of his way to make sure all steps in treatment are clear. He communicates clearly and honestly why he may try one treatment over the other, and how these decisions relate to my own case. He is always available for questions or concerns and has never once made me feel like a burden for calling him.
Describe the protocols Paul Clisham used in your cycles at Fertility Institute of New Orleans and their degree of success.
Dr. Clisham did a complete workup before we eventually got to medicated IUI cycles. He started from the least invasive treatment (monitoring my levels to see when I was ovulating, and directing my husband and I when to have sexual intercourse) and if it did not work, would go to the next treatment method (male factor evaluation, post coital test, IUI with femara only, to IUI with femara and trigger shot). I successfully got pregnant after my first IUI cycle with femara and a trigger shot, and it sadly ended in a miscarriage. Dr. Clisham was then careful about trying to conceive the next cycle, but not so careful to make me wait any longer than I could emotionally handle. As soon as I was able to be cleared (which was about 2 months after my D&C that he changed his schedule to perform), we began to try again.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at Fertility Institute of New Orleans.
The nurses are incredibly kind at Dr. Clisham's office and are all very helpful. When you call to ask them a question, they never make you feel silly for asking anything. They return calls very quickly and are thorough with their answers. My only slight issue is that not all of them are always up to date on my chart. Sometimes they ask me questions that I think would be known if my chart was read. They are, however, kind, helpful, quick to assist, and compassionate. Kim is the best nurse I've ever had care for me.
Describe your experience with Fertility Institute of New Orleans.
The clinic was able to get me seen by a doctor very quickly. Everyone is kind and friendly and helpful. Appointments are always available and the staff will accommodate you whenever you need. Judy at the front desk if the most kind and helpful person! I have read horror stories online of women who have had to miss cycle opportunities because their clinic was booked or would not open--I have NEVER experienced this with the Fertility Institute of New Orleans, holidays included! There have only been a small amount of times that I would've liked to have had a situation handled better. There have been two occasions where I thought my appointment would include seeing my doctor, when it was actually just for blood work and the doctor wasn't there (the only reason I had concern was because I am an over thinker and constantly have a list of questions to ask at my next appointment-- I was by no means denied access to my doctor in any way, I just was not informed that I was only there for a test, rather than an actual doctor visit). My only other VERY small issue is that one time I was having an ultrasound and I could hear someone in the room next to me (their door was open) being told that their gestational sac looked great, and these were words I never got to here (due to miscarriage). I would prefer that a place that is full of emotional situations to be a bit more sensitive to the patients' feelings, but it was not a huge issue at all. It never compromised the care I received or the kindness that was shown to me.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Paul Clisham at Fertility Institute of New Orleans.
Dr. Clisham accepts my health insurance and I had very low copayments with each visit.
Describe Paul Clisham's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Fertility Institute of New Orleans.

Dr. Paul Clisham is kind, careful and patient. I always felt he cared about my case everytime I saw him during my appointments. The only appointments I got to see him were during the ultrasounds, because he was teaching the students how to do it. He was patient, quiet, confident. Dr. Paul Clisham is kind, careful and patient. I always felt he cared about my case everytime I saw him during my appointments. The only appointments I got to see him were during the ultrasounds, because he was teaching the students how to do it. He was patient, quiet, confident. But what made me feel so bad about him is that he was always positive and saying that maybe next round would work, and that there are more treatments we could try (he never mention what other treatments, and I was new in all of this so I didn't ask because I trusted him) but on my last cycle with Clomid, he sent one of his students to tell me that there was nothing else they could do, that I had unexplicable fertility and that my only option was IVF. I asked if I could see Dr. Clisham to ask him about the other treatments he mentioned before, but he never came back and I never saw him again. Now I know about IUI, or other pills like Clomid we could've tried, but he just closed the door.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Paul Clisham at University Medical Center New Orleans?
Talk about other options you may have if the first treatment doesn't work. Inform yourself, ask every question you may have, even if you think it's a dumb question.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Paul Clisham at University Medical Center New Orleans?
He was always respectful and kind, but his students were cold and they said the opposite of what Dr. Clisham said, like for example: the student said that I will have a bigger dose of Clomid for the next cycle, then 5 minutes after that, Dr. Clisham came in to the room saying that he was going to give me the same dose. That happened all the time, it was confusing and that made me feel like they were not even paying attention to the patients.
Describe the protocols Paul Clisham used in your cycles at University Medical Center New Orleans and their degree of success.
I said I was having negative results on ovulation tests for months, they started with blood tests to check that. They realized I wasn't ovulating, so they started Clomid (50mg). They said that if the first cycle didn't work they would double or triple the dose for the next cycle, but they never did it. So I did 2 cycles, then Dr. Clisham said that he was pretty sure that my body was ovulating on its own, so he stopped the treatment for two months. Didn't get pregnant, so he put me back on Clomid for another two cycles with the same dose. For the last two cycles he gave me Metformin, but it was like a bomb, I had nausea, diarrhea, dizziness, headache and I stopped only the Metformin and continued with the Clomid. Every month I had to go 7 days after my period started to have some blood tests, the next week for the vaginal ultrasound, next week for more blood tests and next week to check if I was pregnant. That happened every cycle. When I used Clomid I noticed that always one of my ovaries started to hurt, according to Dr. Clisham it was because of the ovulation and it was normal. He said everything was working and that my number of follicles was ok, the size and shape.
Describe your experience with your nurse at University Medical Center New Orleans.
Nurses were most of the time in a bad mood, not always respectful. But there was one nurse, I don't remember her name, she was always caring and kind, she understood the process we were living, but the rest of them was giving the patients a hard time.
Describe your experience with University Medical Center New Orleans.
The Fertility Clinic at University Medical Center is full of students, and they are learning from Dr. Clisham, so don't expect that they are sure of what they will say. Dr. Clisham is the head of the department, so he is always busy and if you need something you will see one of his students. The strengths are: good equipment, organization. Weaknesses: They only work one day a week, which is Thursday. You can't go any day. And because of that, if you ask for an appointment, you will get it in months.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Paul Clisham at University Medical Center New Orleans.
I was under a program that covered all my expenses, except medicine.
What specific things went wrong at University Medical Center New Orleans?
  • Lost appointments
  • Failed to call with results
  • Failed to consider drug intolerance
Describe the specific things that went wrong at University Medical Center New Orleans.
When Dr. Clisham prescribed me Metphormine I told them I was having a hard time with it, I had diarrhea, dizziness, nausea, headache, I couldn't live my normal life because I had to run like 10 times a day to the bathroom. They told me it was normal and I had to take it, that my body would adjust to that in 2 months at least. It is not possible to live like that for 2 months. Also there were 2 or 3 times where they called me to an appointment and they didn't remember I was going, so they didn't have what they needed. To me it was disrespectful, because I had to wait for 2 hours to get in, and they to just drive 1 hour back to my house because they didn't pay attention to the schedule.

[Dr. Paul Clisham] gave us his direct number so that we could call with questions and concerns. When he didn’t pick up, he would return messages the same day. He was very supportive both on the phone and in-person, and didn’t rush appointments. He would take the time to explain procedures and medications thoroughly and answer any questions...very calming and upbeat at every appointment
In our experience [at Fertility Institute of New Orleans], there was very little available on the internet (patient portals were not updates, so we always spoke to a nurse or doctor about results). Wait times can be long but the lobby is comfortable and it is usually very calm and quiet. Only very rarely have children been present in the waiting room...All of the nurses are good, a few stand out as being particularly friendly and supportive.
How was your experience with Paul Clisham at Fertility Institute of New Orleans?
He was very calming and upbeat at every appointment. He would let us know what he thought the best protocol would be at each step, but did give us options. He listened to concerns and took the time to explain his methods and reasoning.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Paul Clisham at Fertility Institute of New Orleans?
Ask questions if you have them. If he doesn’t explain everything you would like to know or if anything is unclear, he is always willing to answer or elaborate on questions and procedures.

Describe the protocols Paul Clisham used in your cycles at Fertility Institute of New Orleans and their degree of success.
Three to four IUIs were suggested (not due to insurance). He starts with oral medication and then progresses to injections as a more aggressive protocol. If the sperm count is below a certain threshold, he will suggest cancelling IUIs but ultimately leaves the decision up to the patients. If there is any indication of male factor, he will suggest reproductive urologists and has connections to several that he recommends. In our cases, he did suggest surgical procedures and repeat testing before IVF or ICSI.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at Fertility Institute of New Orleans.
All of the nurses are good, a few stand out as being particularly friendly and supportive. We felt like they did hear us when we brought up concerns or questions. They were efficient but we never felt rushed. When you call to speak to a nurse in the clinic, they don’t pick up the phone but if you leave a message they always call back the same day. They also have a separate line for IVF nurses you can call, but we have not used that line at this time.

Success w/ Doc Too early to know
Same day after the first initial consultation I did an exam and blood work and my husband did a semen analysis. I scheduled an HSG. after the HSG came back clear, we did more blood work, progesterone testing, and mucus testing, all test came back good so we decided to keep trying on our own for a few months then after no results Dr Clishman asked us to try a medicated IUI.
I have never waited very long in the waiting room [at Fertility Institute of NO -Metairie]. I feel like they are organized and helpful. My only compliant is maybe the billing because my insurance covers infertility some times I see things that were billed that I am not sure about and its not easy to talk to the billing dept at this clinic. But they are always corrected after speaking to someone
How was your experience with Paul Clisham at Fertility Institute of New Orleans?
I feel my experience as a patient has been great! I have been treated well! Dr Clishman calls me personally to discuss results and treatment options and I see him at most of my appointments. He is very involved!
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Paul Clisham at Fertility Institute of New Orleans?
Don't be scared to ask a lot of questions even if you think it is a stupid question and do a lot of research on your own, that's with any doctor really. I feel Dr Clishman is very knowledgeable but he talks in dr terms and it is a lot of information to take in at one time so take notes and keep a fertility journal
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Paul Clisham at Fertility Institute of New Orleans?
I feel like Dr Clishman really cares, he always been kind and seemed concerned and he has always remembered my name

I scheduled an HSG. after the HSG came back clear, we did more blood work, progesterone testing, and mucus testing, all test came back good so we decided to keep trying on our own for a few months then after no results Dr Clishman asked us to try a medicated IUI. I went in for ultrasounds and bloodwork every other day and the IUI was on day 14 when I usually ovulate on day 12 so that was my only real concern. I had 4 good follicles so we were hopeful but no pregnancy. We waited a few months and then did a second IUI and this time it was done on day 12 but only 1 follicle and no pregnancy. At this point Dr Clishman thinks it is age related and asked if we wanted to try another IUI and I said no we would like to start the IVF process and he agreed so that is our next step. success rates with IUI are so low that it just does not make sense to me to continue trying them especially with my age being a factor. Dr Clishman has always made us feel comfortable and has been open to whatever we wanted to try

How was your experience with Paul Clisham at Fertility Institute of New Orleans?
I always say that patients who go to this clinic receive the royal treatment. The clinic has a boutique feel in that you are treated so gently and kindly by all of the staff. The wait time to see the doctor is extremely minimal - usually 10 to 15 minutes maximum. I saw Dr. Clisham as my primary care provider for 10 years due to my PCOS before trying to get pregnant. I truly believe that it was Dr. Clisham's excellent care that preserved my fertility. Not only did he routinely provide detailed check ups beyond the scope of what a regular OB/GYN does, but he was constantly altering my medications depending on my hormone fluctuations. When the time came to conceive, Dr. Clisham provided me with thorough guidance and set realistic expectations. I am constantly referring friends and family to Clisham for all of their fertility needs. He is smart, knowledgeable, well-studied, and does what is best for his patients. I truly couldn't recommend Dr. Clisham enough. I am now 24 weeks pregnant and have him to thank!
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Paul Clisham at Fertility Institute of New Orleans?
Go to Dr. Clisham and see him regularly. He WILL help you to conceive.

Describe the protocols Paul Clisham used in your cycles at Fertility Institute of New Orleans and their degree of success.
Our first cycle was just Femara and hcg with timed inter course. Our second was femara with injections follistim and ganerelix due to the fact I would ovulate on Friday and need iui on Sunday and they aren’t open. Iui still happened even though I ovulated. Third was same protocol except I started femara on days 4-9 and was able to have my cycle off of a weekend. Neither worked bfn!

I had a very rude nurse who didn’t know what I had spoken to the doctor about and told me not to waste my timing buying meds because they were cancelling my cycle. The rest of the staff was great.

Strengths are they can accommodate most times for labs and ultrasounds. Weakness is new age technology and studies. They need to be researching what other clinics are doing. Invocell is new and promising and so is endometrial scratching. They are doing either. And I feel like they overcharge for a non iui non injections cycle.

Monitoring was $900 and blood work was covered by insurance Iui was $500 and sperm washing was $200

Describe the protocols Paul Clisham used in your cycles at Fertility Institute of New Orleans and their degree of success.
We used donor eggs in our ivf cycle with Dr Clisham because I have poor quality egg production. He thoroughly tested our donor to make sure we would have the best possible chance of achieving pregnancy using donor eggs. Our donor was put on injectable medications and monitored very closely with ultrasound and bloodwork screenings. Her retrieval and recovery went very smooth. We were given regular updates on the progress of our embryos after fertilization. I was prepped for embryo transfer with ultrasound and bloodwork monitoring and oral and injectable medications. We were guided by Dr Clisham in our selection of which embryo would be best to transfer. On transfer day we were treated with the utmost respect and care and even a little humor to ease things. Dr Clisham has always been very attentive to our concerns. We owe all our gratitude and success in this pregnancy to his advice and expertise.

Describe Paul Clisham's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Fertility Institute of New Orleans.
Dr Clisham assured us that with using donor eggs our chances of success would be much higher with a single embryo transfer and that a multiple embryo transfer would not be necessary.

I’ve been battling infertility for over 10 years due to my PCOS. After 2 failed IVF’s and 1 failed IUI in the past 8 years, I came to Dr. Clisham empty handed (with basically no hope) only because my husband asked me to try again. Of course the doctor began checking my hubbys semen (to ensure that he was fertile enough). Then, I was examined from head to toes, and that included an HSG ...Just when we were about to start a cycle of Clomid and we were waiting for my period to come, I got the surprise of my life. My period never came down, so I took a pregnancy test 😊😊 which resulted in 💯% ➕➕➕‼️ I couldn’t believe that such a simple advice from Dr. Clisham was the key to our pregnancy. Thanks to him, today we have our precious little girl sent from heaven.

How was your experience with Paul Clisham at Fertility Institute of New Orleans?
Dr. Clisham saved our lives afters years of desperately trying to conceive. Infertility can be described as the saddest process that a couple goes through. Thanks to the Fertility Institute in Metairie, LA I have my daughter. The doctors patience and knowledge is indescribable. I was able to get pregnant within the first three months of my first visit to the doctor. As a patient I always felt valued, respected, and cared for. I wish I had gone to see him sooner.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Paul Clisham at Fertility Institute of New Orleans?

During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Paul Clisham at Fertility Institute of New Orleans?
Words can not describe the comfort that Dr. Clisham made me feel always when asking him questions, when emailing him for information, and when he advised me on how to proceed. He was very prompt on answering all my desperate questions and all my extreme worries during the first 12 weeks of my pregnancy. Dr. Clisham always took his time without rushing to see the next patient after me. His smooth and caring personality made it easier for me through this hard process.

He [Dr. Ron Clisham] was attentive and nice.
