Dr. McKinney is very warm, personable and compassionate. She is very knowledgable and communicated at every pivot why we were changing direction or strategy and how it would impact us. There were times however that I felt like she used statistics to support her decisions, even if they were inconsistent or contradictory to things she had previously used to support a decision...She performed by ultrasounds retrieval, trial transfer and transfer
Overall this [Tulsa Fertility Center] clinic does not provide patients with the support resources (mental health, available grants/financing options, etc.) needed. The two doctors very much work independently and patient experience is solely based on the luck of the draw on nurse coordinator and the mood of the receptionist that day.
How was your experience with Shauna McKinney at Tulsa Fertility Center?
Dr. McKinney is very warm, personable and compassionate. She is very knowledgable and communicated at every pivot why we were changing direction or strategy and how it would impact us. There were times however that I felt like she used statistics to support her decisions, even if they were inconsistent or contradictory to things she had previously used to support a decision. I have been a patient for almost four years with no success yet. There have definitely been times that I have questioned her ability to get us to the finish line, even going as far as seeking another opinion to validate the path we had taken to date.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Shauna McKinney at Tulsa Fertility Center?
Do your research before you appointments. Come with questions written down. She sometimes can get off track and it will be your duty to keep her on topic to get your questions answered. There are several topics that she will not be able to answer (ordering meds, costs, etc.) and she will defer to her nursing and financial team. They are not quite as knowledgable or dependable. Press her when needed.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Shauna McKinney at Tulsa Fertility Center?
By Dr. McKinney, I felt treated like a human. She performed by ultrasounds retrieval, trial transfer and transfer. I never felt like I had a shortage of access to her. However, I definitely felt like a number to the nursing staff.
Describe the protocols Shauna McKinney used in your cycles at Tulsa Fertility Center and their degree of success.
Three IVF cycles for retrieval with ICSI and PGS testing. Two with follistim. Eight FET cycles (three medicated, five natural) to get to a lining thick enough to transfer on. One FET transfer of two embryos. Transferred on a 7mm lining. No pregnancy. One embryo left.
Describe your experience with your nurse at Tulsa Fertility Center. (Assigned nurse: Nichole)
Nichole was unreliable. I understand that in her role she has to repeat information a lot, but there are efficiencies that could be made as a clinic to provide all necessary information and support to patients. I often felt like I had to follow up frequently and seek information and support resources elsewhere. There was a lot of information that I felt should have proactively been communication in order to properly set patient expectations. More often than not it was assumed that patients already had knowledge of most of the information. Their communication is primarily through an eIVF portal. Where other clinics have secondary methods to reach patients or at least alert them that new messages are available in the portal, TFC doesn't have any of this. If you are not proactively checking multiple times daily, you will likely miss messages and potentially appointments.

Describe Shauna McKinney's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Tulsa Fertility Center.
Dr. McKinney was careful to treat it on a case by case basis dependent on all the factors (lining thickness, tri-lam, estrogen and progesterone levels) before she made a recommendation.

Success w/ Doc Too early to know
Our consultation [with Dr. Shauna McKinney] was extremely rushed and I didn’t have time to ask most of the questions I had. She mainly told us why we were there (which we already knew) and then sent the nurse in to handle paperwork. We left feeling extremely confused and not sure where to go from there... I didn’t get a chance to truly explain our story and what we’ve tried with other doctors to inform her of our past treatments. I have PCOS and when I tried to bring that up she said that it didn’t matter because it was more about my husband and his fertility issues than mine which made me feel a little put off.
My main problem [at Tulsa Fertility Center] is with the lack of communication between both Dr. and patient and nurse and patient. I feel they should have a little more compassion when it comes to each individual story even tho they’ve heard a million different stories, each story is hard and special that patient and it should be treated as such...They would never give us a straight answer to how much we would have to owe until AFTER it was over and we had no choose but to pay whatever amount they told us. It felt very deceitful and very frustrating...They’re major weakness is communication with the patients. E
How was your experience with Shauna McKinney at Tulsa Fertility Center?
I feel she could be very pleasant but it did come across like we were just a number and basic. I didn’t get a chance to truly explain our story and what we’ve tried with other doctors to inform her of our past treatments. I have PCOS and when I tried to bring that up she said that it didn’t matter because it was more about my husband and his fertility issues than mine which made me feel a little put off.

We’ve only had a consultation with her before deciding to look elsewhere.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at Tulsa Fertility Center.
The nursing staff especially the front desk seemed like they didn’t know anything going. I tried asking a question and was told to multiple questions that she wasn’t sure and I could ask a different nurse whenever we came back for treatment. We didn’t even pick our treatment and our question was about the different treatments! They came across very uninformed! The front desk lady who handles calls and payments was clueless. Every time I called I was told she wouldn’t know how much we had to pay until after our appointment. Once we got there she called us up three different times because she said she forgot to charge us for three different things! Very annoying.
Describe your experience with Tulsa Fertility Center.
They’re major weakness is communication with the patients. Every nurse or staff member there wants to refer you to a different person for a simple question. I don’t know if they truly don’t know or simply don’t care to answer my question. Many of my questions went unanswered.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Shauna McKinney at Tulsa Fertility Center.
So far the only cost we had was for our consultation and sperm analysis. But that was a frustrating process. They would never give us a straight answer to how much we would have to owe until AFTER it was over and we had no choose but to pay whatever amount they told us. It felt very deceitful and very frustrating.

Dr McKinney did a good job with explaining the procedures and what to expect and was blunt about our chances of conceiving natural, with IUI, and with IVF. At only 19-20 years old she never once made me feel as if I was “to young” to be going to her clinic for help. One downfall is that when my first IUI failed and I wanted to begin injections I was told “everything went perfect there’s no need to change your meds” even though in my eyes it did not result in a pregnancy therefore it did not go perfect.
The staff [Tulsa Fertility Center] are amazing but they don’t listen to what the patient really wants. This clinic just uses their basic protocols instead of making each patient an individualized plan of care. The clinic itself was very nice and clean... They told me I was unable to schedule an appointment with dr McKinney in the middle of a treatment cycle and that I would have to hold off on starting IUI #3 and schedule an appointment

Towards the end of IUI #2 I sent a message in patient portal regarding again wanting to change my meds and go through with IUI #3. They told me I was unable to schedule an appointment with dr McKinney in the middle of a treatment cycle and that I would have to hold off on starting IUI #3 and schedule an appointment if I wanted to discuss changing anything. I felt I already waited enough and if I’m paying for a treatment there should be no reason why I can’t meet the Dr in the middle of the treatment.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Shauna McKinney at Tulsa Fertility Center?
Look elsewhere if you want an aggressive treatment
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Shauna McKinney at Tulsa Fertility Center?
Dr McKinney’s office knew who I was the minute I walked through the door by appointment number 2. When I went to the desk to check in I hardly ever had to tell them my name
Describe the protocols Shauna McKinney used in your cycles at Tulsa Fertility Center and their degree of success.
For both my IUIs I went in once between day 2-5 for baseline ultrasound and bloodwork, then I was put on 5mg of letrazole day 5-9, mid cycle ultrasound between day 12-15, 1st I had only 1 follicle and the 2nd I had 1 good size and 1 that. Plus possibly catch up, day after midcycle ultrasound I would trigger with ovidril at 8pm then go in for IUI 36hrs later, 7dpiui progesterone bloodwork, and 14dpiui HCG bloodwork. Each cycle costed around $800 total. Both cycles failed. I believe due to the fact I ovulated earlier than the 36hr mark but her protocol is IUI 36 hours after IUI

Describe the costs associated with your care under Shauna McKinney at Tulsa Fertility Center.
One IUI cost around $900 total with meds, ultrasounds, and bloodwork. That’s a noninjection cycle with no insurance coverage. Our quote on IVF was $12000 down + meds

We underwent several IUIs, a cancelled IVF, and a failed IVF before Dr. McKinney happened to mention that in addition to advanced maternal age and low AMH (which was normal before the two-month delay we experienced after starting with TFC), we also had a problem on the male side...We worked with Dr. McKinney for over a year, and throughout the entire process, were provided nothing but incomplete information and frustration.
At our initial visit [at Tulsa Fertility Center], we were instructed to complete our lab work and then we’d be able to schedule our treatment. After not hearing back for two weeks, the nurse asked me to schedule a follow-up visit, which we had been told we didn’t need to do. In addition, I was assured that all of our previous records had been received, but in this two-week-later communication, was told that in fact, not all of the records were received.

We underwent several IUIs, a cancelled IVF, and a failed IVF before Dr. McKinney happened to mention that in addition to advanced maternal age and low AMH (which was normal before the two-month delay we experienced after starting with TFC), we also had a problem on the male side. His test results indicated that he was on the very low end of the range for a particular number (but in the “normal” range according to the report we have), and we were never told that it was a problem until our post-failed-IVF appointment. Dr. McKinney couldn’t believe that she never mentioned it, and just stated, “Well, that’s why we were doing ICSI,” but did not express any sympathy as to why were upset that we weren’t told specifically prior to that point.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Shauna McKinney at Tulsa Fertility Center?
Don't go here unless you like to feel like a statistic.
Describe the protocols Shauna McKinney used in your cycles at Tulsa Fertility Center and their degree of success.
I used the Ganirelix protcol with Follistim to stimulate ovarian production. My first attempt only produced 3 eggs, so she adjusted the next round to increase the dosage. I never felt that the doctor was able to manipulate her decisions or set expectations based on my specific situation.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at Tulsa Fertility Center.
At our initial visit, we were instructed to complete our lab work and then we’d be able to schedule our treatment. After not hearing back for two weeks, the nurse asked me to schedule a follow-up visit, which we had been told we didn’t need to do. In addition, I was assured that all of our previous records had been received, but in this two-week-later communication, was told that in fact, not all of the records were received. TFC was missing my most recent pap smear and my boyfriend’s test results. You would think that it would be simple for one professional to be in contact with another to ensure that all these records had been received. Instead, I wasn’t notified until two weeks after-the-fact, after being told that everything had been received, that they were missing my Pap smear result. In all, it took 6 weeks and at least 10-20 phone calls on my part to get that last little bit of information transferred, which of course, delayed our treatment for two months. It’s entirely possible that these were my last fertile months; my bloodwork afterward showed a decreased hormone level. I underwent many IUIs and two IVFs without any significant pain, so I’m not a wimp. However, there was one procedure after which I experienced such extreme cramping, I had tears in my eyes and could barely stand up. I hobbled out of my exam room and asked if they had any Tylenol or Advil, and not one person looked up from their computer or offered to help me up front.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Shauna McKinney at Tulsa Fertility Center.
First round was covered by insurance, 2nd was about $15,000 (Including meds) because we had reached our insurance max.

Describe the specific things that went wrong at Tulsa Fertility Center.
My advice for people seeking fertility treatment in the Tulsa area: go somewhere else. We worked with Dr. McKinney for over a year, and throughout the entire process, were provided nothing but incomplete information and frustration. To be clear, this review and our experience would be the same regardless of the outcome. We did not get pregnant after 2 cycles of IVF, but I’ve been planning to write this review regardless of the outcome. We had started IUI cycles before we moved to Oklahoma, and our initial impression of TFC was very positive due to their organized process. Unfortunately, that process is not flexible for those who have already undergone treatments elsewhere. Problems with starting their treatment after starting at another clinic was the beginning of our tiresome journey, and I wish we had moved to a different clinic when these problems first arose. I underwent many IUIs and two IVFs without any significant pain, so I’m not a wimp. However, there was one procedure after which I experienced such extreme cramping, I had tears in my eyes and could barely stand up. Our final IVF cycle failed, and instead of getting a phone call (which they indicate you will receive if it fails), I found out on the portal. Logging into their portal expecting good news (since we didn’t get a phone call), and seeing a blank egg report with the words “no viable embryos” was just beyond words. The only good thing about having completed our cycles with TFC is that we don’t have to deal with them anymore. If we decide to continue treatment, we will travel outside of Oklahoma.

She [Dr. McKinney] is very friendly and personable for the most part. I had one experience that kind of left me feeling disappointed with her. At my final ultrasound before trigger, 15 follicles were counted, however; only 8 were retrieved at my retrieval. When I asked why not more, she did explain that not all were mature but then proceeded to tell me that she wouldn't come to my work and question how I did my job...No rationale was given to me, the patient, as to why certain medications were used instead of others.
Patient education [at Tulsa Fertility Center] needs to be improved greatly. All the info they give you is electronic so you can't really ask questions if you're not sure about something...I almost had to wait till the next month to get started because they did not get my prescription of provera called in to the pharmacy when they said they would.10,740 for the basic IVF with ICSI 4,500 for meds 895 for trial transfer/SIS And probably 2000 more for the Ovarian Reserve test and others test/appts.
How was your experience with Shauna McKinney at Tulsa Fertility Center?
She doesn't spend much time in the room after the 'important' stuff was done. If you have questions be sure to have them ready and start talking as soon as she gets done. Nothing is explained as to what exactly she is looking for at the baseline/miscycle ultrasounds. She is very friendly and personable for the most part. I was a little taken aback, but as I was still affected by the anesthesia, I didn't say anything more. I really like her overall but that one comment just left a bad taste in my mouth.

No rationale was given to me, the patient, as to why certain medications were used instead of others. Overlapped BC and 10ui Lupron for 4 days then only 10ui Lupron for 7 days. Lowered to 5ui after that. Added in 200ui AM and 150ui PM Folistim and Dexamethosone for 9 days. Trigger at 11pm on day 10. Retrieval in day 12. Started Doxycycline and Medrol for 5 days. I had 15 follicles, 8 eggs, 4 mature, 3 fertilized, 1 made it to day 5 transfer. Waiting now for beta.

Dr. McKinney is unprofessional to say the least. She follows a system and doesn't get away from that system... is WAY in over her head. She cannot keep up with the volume of clients... We were fortunate to get pregnant(10 weeks pregnant) and are still very disappointed with how we were treated...will talk for 5 minutes about you, 20 minutes about her personal life, and then charge you extra because you had a complicated office visit.
Tulsa Fertility Center is by far the worst doctors office that we have ever been to. The lack of care for patients is shocking and they continue to stay in business because there are no other IVF clinics in the local area...We have been there for roughly 10 months and were so happy to finally be finished with our care. I have listed a few things that we went through over our 10 months at Tulsa Fertility Center. We were fortunate to get pregnant(10 weeks pregnant) and are still very disappointed with how we were treated at Tulsa Fertility Center. 1. The only thing that keeps patients going to this fertility center is the location and the fact that nothing else is around in terms of IVF treatments.
How was your experience with Shauna McKinney at Tulsa Fertility Center?
Dr. McKinney is unprofessional to say the least. She follows a system and doesn't get away from that system. You are a number and if you have any questions, she will look at you like you are dumb and then come up with some quick response to get you out the door. She will constantly lie to you, be late to appointments, and be short and quick.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Shauna McKinney at Tulsa Fertility Center?
Start acting like a professional. Be courteous to your patients and respect them.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Shauna McKinney at Tulsa Fertility Center?
Dr. McKinney is WAY in over her head. She cannot keep up with the volume of clients. The staff hate working there and it is obvious that there is tension among everyone in the office.

You are a number when you walk in and walk out. They do not care about your feelings, they do not know your name, and do not care for the female through the IVF process. 3. The staff do not like each other and it is very obvious. 4. The staff will lie to you about anything and everything. 5. They do everything on their schedule and will keep you on shots and medicine for an extended period of time to fit into their schedule. 6. They get a kickback from the online pharmacy that they use. If you try to get meds at another pharmacy, they will be very mad at you and basically tell you that they will not be correct. 7. Once you find out if you are or are not pregnant, they will start charging you for every service without telling you. 8. For each appointment, you will wait roughly 30-45 minutes to go back to a room and then another 30-45 minutes to see the doctor. 9. The doctor will talk for 5 minutes about you, 20 minutes about her personal life, and then charge you extra because you had a complicated office visit. 10. If you ask questions about the process of IVF, they will take 2-3 days to respond through the portal and then make you feel dumb but an overcomplicated response that makes no sense. 11. They will only contact you through a portal and you DO NOT get notified when you have a message in the portal so you basically need to check it at all times. 12. The most stress throughout the IVF process was not knowing what was happening next, what medicine to take, and really just a lack of communication from the Doctor to us. If you live in or near Tulsa, you have options. Please go visit other doctors in Dallas, OKC, Kansas City, Wichita, etc. DO NOT settle for Tulsa fertility.

Describe the specific things that went wrong at Tulsa Fertility Center.
Tulsa Fertility Center is by far the worst doctors office that we have ever been to. The lack of care for patients is shocking and they continue to stay in business because there are no other IVF clinics in the local area.
