Attention to Detail

Attention to detail is on a 1 - 10 scale, and is scored based on the rate, and severity, of errors committed by the clinic according to the patients.

For example, a severe error might be failing to inform a patient of critical information, while a small error might be failing to call a patient with results.

CDC Success Rates

This is the most recent data from the CDC. The CDC cautions that it should not be used to compare doctors and clinics. This data represents the outcomes of IVF cycles when using a person's own eggs.

For more information please see our FAQs.

Where you see a “?” on the chart, a clinic has done fewer than 20 cycles in this category and age range, so the CDC says showing percentages from this small data set would be misleading and unreliable.

Dr. Polotsky was late to our first appointment, then he just didn't show up for our second appointment We already had all of the testing done, and two semen analysis's done within the last six months but he wanted us to do them again...The only good thing that came from my appointment was that my genetic testing came back normal
If you have tricare, they make it as difficult as possible to get anything covered. They [Advanced Reproductive Medicine staff] also do not help with financial side of any of it, they say call your insurance, the insurance says ask the clinic. We did not get passed the diagnostic phase of our treatment, and honestly I am glad. I can't picture myself spending thousands of dollars on a doctor that can't show up to appointments.
How was your experience with Alex Polotsky at Advanced Reproductive Medicine (U of CO) (closed)?
Dr. Polotsky was late to our first appointment, then he just didn't show up for our second appointment. I felt like we were treated different because we have Tricare for insurance and like we were cheap for wanting to get insurance to cover as much as possible. He made us redo all the testing, including the ever so painful HSG again, even though it came back normal the previous time. The only good thing that came from my appointment was that my genetic testing came back normal and I never had that testing before. We never got the results back from our appointments, and he never showed up to our follow up. They are also terribly backed up, and appointments are booked 1.5 to 2 months out. Imagine my frustration when I waited 1.5 months after the testing (2ish months total) and he doesn't even show up. I called the clinic the day after the missed appointment because they marked me down as a no show, and the clinic hung up on me. This clinic made me feel worthless.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Alex Polotsky at Advanced Reproductive Medicine (U of CO) (closed)?
try and get a different clinic

He made us redo all the testing we had already done which came back as male infertility and then wait two months for a follow up appointment.

The nurse at the front desk hung up on me. When I went in for my diagnostic ultrasound, the nurse was very polite and gentle, which I appreciated because I was very nervous.

The only positive experience we had at this clinic is the sperm collection room was decent, and we got genetic results back. Everything else was painful, slow and I felt like they just wanted my money.

[Dr. Shona Murray] was always willing to answer any questions that we had, and she really made it seem as though she was truly in tune with my particular treatment...I was a little unique in that I have a very difficult cervix due to past leep procedures. She was always up front that the transfer could be challenging if not impossible because of it. I felt she was very thorough in making sure that we did several trial transfers to see how my cervix would respond prior to her putting me through the process of egg retrieval. She was very caring in her efforts to help us get pregnant but, was also, very honest in the potential hiccups/set backs that could occur.

All were great! They all recognized me and the receptionist always called me by name when I came in. The nurses who did the blood draws/blood pressure were always great too!
How was your experience with Shona Murray at Advanced Reproductive Medicine (U of CO) (closed)?
Dr. Murray was very thorough in her review of my case. She did a great job of explaining how the process would work up front so, that we could make an informed decision about egg retrieval, genetic testing, and the embryo transfer. Describe Shona Murray's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Advanced Reproductive Medicine (U of CO) (closed).
Dr. Murray very strongly advised in the transfer of one embryo because of the potential health risk to child/mother if it had resulted in a multiple birth. She also recommended based on the rate of success that one embryo be transferred. My husband and I were not trying to have multiple children so we did take her advice, but she was always up front that she would transfer more than one if that was our decision.

Success w/ Doc Too early to know
She [Dr. Murray] did recommend doing our IVF with half of the eggs fertilized with ICSI because we did not know why we have not had success yet in getting pregnant. My eggs didn’t respond well to the ICSI, but I appreciated her reasoning for doing half and half: she didn’t want us to end up with no embryos due to an unknown fertilization problem...She very strongly encouraged us to only transfer one embryo at a time due to the risks associated with a multiple pregnancy, as well as the increased chances of identical twinning with IVF and the pregnancy risks being greater even in a single pregnancy than the non ivf population
Overall the clinic [Advanced Reproductive Medicine U of Co] is great, the staff usually all works together seamlessly. However due to the fact that it is run by a “learning hospital” there have occasionally been people in the office who seem to not know what is going on. Typically the staff is knowledgeable and friendly, and knows what they are doing...Most of the building is dedicated to the children’s hospital, and I have yet to have had a trip there where I have not seen a baby on my way in or out. This can be very difficult for some people depending on where they are in their fertility journey
How was your experience with Shona Murray at Advanced Reproductive Medicine (U of CO) (closed)?
She is a wonderful doctor who recognizes our goals and is doing the best she can to help us achieve them. We haven’t seen her much, and all procedures have been done by others, but it seems that she has great communication about what is going on and is always up to date on our treatment
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Shona Murray at Advanced Reproductive Medicine (U of CO) (closed)?
Very understanding of our concerns, answers every question thoroughly. Recognizes that there are many factors at play, but wants to do what gives us the best chance of success

However due to the fact that it is run by a “learning hospital” there have occasionally been people in the office who seem to not know what is going on. Typically the staff is knowledgeable and friendly, and knows what they are doing. One big drawback for many people undergoing infertility treatment is that the clinic shares its building with a children’s hospital doctors office. Most of the building is dedicated to the children’s hospital, and I have yet to have had a trip there where I have not seen a baby on my way in or out. This can be very difficult for some people depending on where they are in their fertility journey and can occasionally seem a little inappropriate that a better location wasn’t chosen
Describe the costs associated with your care under Shona Murray at Advanced Reproductive Medicine (U of CO) (closed).
Being mid-treatment for IVF I don’t have a full picture of what billing will ultimately look like for the whole treatment cycle, though I do have insurance coverage with a high deductible, and a $7000 out of pocket maximum, of which the last $2800 was met during egg retrieval. The clinic offers a cash-pay IVF which covers all but medication for around $16,000 though, and they ask at the beginning of every appointment if they are billing insurance or if it’s cash pay

At the beginning, Dr. Murray seemed really patient and I was excited to work with her. It took us a few months between our initial appointments before we decided to try IUI. ... I am 36. I have very regular cycles (26-28 days), and my husband's sperm looks, for the most part, good. There was a slight possibility of a motility issue. I have one endometrial cysts (about 5cm) on each ovary. ... We recently went through our first IUI cycle.
Communication about pricing was a challenge. I was given one price and charged something else. Though, I was able to talk to the clinic [Advanced Repro Med (U of CO)] and get a bill changed because I was given a price that was half of what I'd been charged. ... I felt listened to and my questions were answered. I did feel like I had reexplain myself/situation each time, or remind them of one thing or another, though.

At the beginning, Dr. Murray seemed really patient and I was excited to work with her. It took us a few months between our initial appointments before we decided to try IUI. Once we did decide to go that route, I had several appointments, ultrasounds and the IUI and I didn't see her for even one of those appointments. It was only nurses, who I felt listened to by, but it was surprising and disappointing to not see the doctor again.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Shona Murray at Advanced Reproductive Medicine (U of CO) (closed)?
Be prepared with lots of questions because that's how you'll get most of your information.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Shona Murray at Advanced Reproductive Medicine (U of CO) (closed)?
With the nurses, I felt like I was paid attention to, and like my questions weren't annoying. With Dr. Murray, she didn't explain very much to me and I wasn't sure if I was asking the right questions. I just wished she'd have spend more time helping me understand why we were struggling with fertility.
Describe the protocols Shona Murray used in your cycles at Advanced Reproductive Medicine (U of CO) (closed) and their degree of success.
We recently went through our first IUI cycle. I was prescribed Clomid for 5 days and then vagifem for another five days. Once my follicles (1, maybe 2) reached 18cm, I gave myself the trigger shot. I was inseminated 36 hours later. The cycle did not end in pregnancy. I'm not certain what the rational was behind trying the IUI cycle other than we'd been trying to conceive for a year and a half and I am 36. I have very regular cycles (26-28 days), and my husband's sperm looks, for the most part, good. There was a slight possibility of a motility issue. I have one endometrial cysts (about 5cm) on each ovary.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at Advanced Reproductive Medicine (U of CO) (closed).
I had a couple different nurses, and I don't remember names. Each one was compassionate and kind. I felt listened to and my questions were answered. I did feel like I had reexplain myself/situation each time, or remind them of one thing or another, though.

Communication about pricing was a challenge. I was given one price and charged something else. Though, I was able to talk to the clinic and get a bill changed because I was given a price that was half of what I'd been charged. They listened to me, and helped get that taken care of, though it was a frustrating process. The clinic is comfortable, the consultation rooms are nice. I would say there was nothing strikingly awesome or terrible about it.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Shona Murray at Advanced Reproductive Medicine (U of CO) (closed).
I'm not positive on all these numbers, but here are my guesses. My insurance didn't cover anything so these may be reduced prices. Consultation- $250 (?) HSG- $800 HSG follow up appt $250 Ultrasounds- $250 IUI $450 Again these are guesses, I don't remember exactly.

Describe the specific things that went wrong at Advanced Reproductive Medicine (U of CO) (closed).
I'd been scheduled for an STD test, and the clinic (not the fertility clinic, but the testing lab) was going to charge me $950. I called and asked the clinic about it and they said to tell them it was through the fertility clinic that I needed this test done, in which case it'd only cost $125. They hadn't provided that information to me beforehand, and I almost paid $950.

I do believe Dr. Murray is stellar at her job and trustworthy just based on the few times I have visited with her. She has always made sure to hear out my concerns and questions while also including my input in all decisions.... I am on the antagonist protocol with icsi currently which starts with birth control and then progresses to injectables. Dr. Murray suggested this treatment plan for me because we have unexplained infertility with a male factor.
This clinics strengths [U of Co] are success rates, location, knowledge, and a wide array of options for infertility. This clinics weaknesses are the time it takes to get scheduled and the nurses who work the front desk can be pretty snappy and moody. If they worked on their customer service I would not have a single complaint thus far.... the nurse staff and doctors rotate days of the week. All of three of the doctors share two primary nurses and four support nurses.

I do believe Dr. Murray is stellar at her job and trustworthy just based on the few times I have visited with her. She has always made sure to hear out my concerns and questions while also including my input in all decisions. I am currently still in the process of ivf so I can’t speak to her results just yet but so far I am comfortable that she knows exactly what she’s doing and I will have a great outcome.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Shona Murray at Advanced Reproductive Medicine (U of CO) (closed)?
She is straight to the point and very blunt so be prepared to have a little tougher skin. Don’t expect to see her much if going through ivf you will mostly be working with the nurses. Also, must have a flexible schedule as this office is always booked.

Dr. Murray has definitely treated more so like a human than a number. She is very understanding and listens to how you feel. She also includes your opinion in every decision but is very blunt and straight to the point in the same context.

I am on the antagonist protocol with icsi currently which starts with birth control and then progresses to injectables. Dr. Murray suggested this treatment plan for me because we have unexplained infertility with a male factor. I began taking birth control as instructed and when I went in for baseline they noticed my body was still very much trying to ovulate in its own. We are now trying to restructure our strategy while I stay on birth control. Dr. Murray and the nurses are discussing starting me on a natural start protocol of the follicle does not decrease in size.

They work closely with you through the protocol helping you with anything you need and will answer any question.

Dr. Murray was the first doctor to see my case as unique and address as many questions and concerns as possible....she thoroughly reviewed my file that is almost 8 years of records on infertility, listened to my story and concerns, was willing to run extra tests, made suggestions, not demands. she personally sat with us multiple times for discussions and review of my results.
They [Advanced Reproductive Med] are efficient, clean, friendly, and thorough. I receive follow-up calls and messages through the UC Health app, which is very convenient. Dr. Murray has personally called me for questions and follow-up.... They are so friendly, and they always great me by name. We tell stories and make each other laugh. They have always been professional and kind to me and my husband.
How was your experience with Shona Murray at Advanced Reproductive Medicine (U of CO) (closed)?
Dr. Murray was the first doctor to see my case as unique and address as many questions and concerns as possible. She heard me. She heard my husband. Her in-depth look into my records helped her see what some potential causes were, unlock previous doctors who made assumptions and didn't listen when I said "We already tried that" or "I don't want to wait 3 more months", etc. I felt like we had equal conversations of both listening and talking; we weren't just talked at and rushed out.

she thoroughly reviewed my file that is almost 8 years of records on infertility, listened to my story and concerns, was willing to run extra tests, made suggestions, not demands. she personally sat with us multiple times for discussions and review of my results. she approached my case as unique and sought out the 'why' and ways to increase fertility, not just throw medicine at everything.
Describe the protocols Shona Murray used in your cycles at Advanced Reproductive Medicine (U of CO) (closed) and their degree of success.
My last doctor wanted me to go on letrezol before he referred me to Dr. Murray. She looked at my tests and procedures and said she wanted to learn as much about me as possible to make sure medication would even work, in case my body wasn't fully able to be pregnant since it had been 8 years. She updated my bloodwork to check hormones and lipids, resulting in an increase in my bromocriptine dose, but she also spotted some irregularities in my HSG from 5 years ago. She had me come in for a Femvu, which is when her suspicions were confirmed about me having polyps. From that point I am scheduled for a hysteroscopy in a month. She said after my recovery we will wait a couple months and see if we conceive, then we will look into fertility drugs. She also prescribed vitamin D and is looking into ways to increase fertility avoiding hormones if possible, per our request.

Success w/ Doc Too early to know
He [Dr. Illions] took the time to ask questions and understand my case. When my wife and I arrived for our first visit, he was on time, and had read my complete file, reviewed all of the records i had sent over, and had a suggested course of treatment. He has been 100% invested with each step alongside of us...personally called me even after the resident had called to explain we would put the cycle on hold. He explained why we needed to wait, and gave me the timeline for when to call back and reschedule another lab.
The RNs are just okay here [at Advanced Reproductive Medicine (U of CO). The other nursing staff does the labs, and are generally present during the IUI. The nurses are utilized more as teachers-- they meet with you after ultrasounds to tell you when to trigger. They are understandably less invested in individual patients, but my last meeting with a nurse felt like she hadn't read any of my chart. They aren't bad, just ok.
How was your experience with Edward Illions at Advanced Reproductive Medicine (U of CO) (closed)?
The initial conversation I had was by phone-- he called back the same day I contacted the clinic to discuss my case ( I was coming from another fertility clinic). He took the time to ask questions and understand my case. When my wife and I arrived for our first visit, he was on time, and had read my complete file, reviewed all of the records i had sent over, and had a suggested course of treatment. He has been 100% invested with each step alongside of us.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Edward Illions at Advanced Reproductive Medicine (U of CO) (closed)?
If you have seen other doctors, send everything in advance. If you do your part, he will reciprocate 100%. Don't be afraid to ask questions, but also expect honest answers.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Edward Illions at Advanced Reproductive Medicine (U of CO) (closed)?
Dr. Illions take the time at each appointment to discuss the treatment, and answer all of my questions patiently, even when they are ridiculous (can i ride a motorcycle in the days following an IUI?). He also calls back rather than having someone else on staff. He remembers both of our names each time we are in the clinic and has a kind demeanor without feeling artificial.
Describe the protocols Edward Illions used in your cycles at Advanced Reproductive Medicine (U of CO) (closed) and their degree of success.
We came to the clinic having had all of the testing done elsewhere, but no actual treatment. We were able to begin our treatment the following week. According to the battery of tests, there were no known fertility issues, we just needed the sperm and insemination. Dr. Illions sent in an RX for ovidrel, but no other drugs since the testing didn't show anything that would cause us to believe it would be the first course of action. After three IUI's, Dr. Illions suggested beginning a medicated cycle. We got hung up on thyroid levels as we began the 4th cycle. Dr. Illions personally called me even after the resident had called to explain we would put the cycle on hold. He explained why we needed to wait, and gave me the timeline for when to call back and reschedule another lab.

Describe your experience with Advanced Reproductive Medicine (U of CO) (closed).
The clinic itself is no frills because it is part of the University system, so it isn't as fancy as a private clinic, and doesn't have the same personalized attention. That being said, We have had an easy time scheduling because they have appointments seven days a week, and are available early mornings, which makes this entire process easier while trying to jam appointments alongside a full time job. The billing is through the university, so they are less likely, in my experience, to try and push things through insurance to try to get them covered, when they don't think they will be. Their prices changed this spring, which went into effect immediately, and now I am afraid of price fluctuation, but it was only the one time. Overall- I would recommend the clinic without any hesitation.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Edward Illions at Advanced Reproductive Medicine (U of CO) (closed).
We didn't do labs here, but wish we had-- it is, we now know, far less than at private clinics. Consult:$250 Infectious Disease $159 Ultrasound: $210 Semen analysis/day of prep: $239 Insemination: $75 Psych council (required): $250

We started with 3 months of vaginal progesterone with no drugs or insemination [with Dr. Shona Murray]. After that we added clomid and 3 Roy da of IUI with vaginal progesterone. To our surprise the 3rd IUI took...She was very blunt and honest. I am not a sugar coat it kind of girl. With her honesty she was very compassionate. She listened to our concerns and answered all our questions. We never left rushed during any appointment. Thank you for the amazing care and we can’t wait to hold our little miracle baby.
It [Advanced Reproductive Medicine] was cheaper then the other clinics around. I also liked they were associated with the university...i think they have the flow of the clinic down!!! Everyone is very friendly and always willing to help. I loved that when i walked in they knew my name without looking at my chart...staff are wonderful. They made my husband and i feel comfortable and at home.
How was your experience with Shona Murray at Advanced Reproductive Medicine (U of CO) (closed)?
As a patient my husband and i trusted her. She took the time to talk with us and listen to our concerns and answer all our questions. We never felt rushed with her. We had a complete understanding of the next steps of our care plan.

Dr. Murray and her staff are wonderful. They made my husband and i feel comfortable and at home. After experiencing 3 miscarriages in 2 years and feeling as though the OBs attitude is “its easy to get pregnant” we were thrilled to be referred to Dr Murray. She was very blunt and honest. I am not a sugar coat it kind of girl. With her honesty she was very compassionate. She listened to our concerns and answered all our questions. We never left rushed during any appointment. Thank you for the amazing care and we can’t wait to hold our little miracle baby.

Since we had 3 miscarriages and all the lab work for me and my husband cane back normal it was difficult to have a single plan. We started with 3 months of vaginal progesterone with no drugs or insemination. After that we added clomid and 3 Roy da of IUI with vaginal progesterone. To our surprise the 3rd IUI took. We would then proceed to IVF but we have a miracle baby growing currently.

My insurance covered all doctor visits and diagnostic testing. Insurance did not cover fertility medications or IUI. The cost is very reasonable. It was cheaper then the other clinics around. I also liked they were associated with the university

She didn’t seem to want to hear my questions or acknowledge my concerns.... Dr. Murray seems competent, but she doesn’t seem to really care about me as an individual. She also came across as too busy for questions and impatient at times. Also, they don’t have access to all tests that may need to be done and didn’t refer elsewhere.... Try IUI 3 times and consider IVF if unsuccessful. She suggested not removing fibroids (some about 7cm). First iui was with clomid, second with letrazole.
They [U of Co] don’t offer details of your visit through the portal (only description is “ultrasound” or “labs”), so you have to pay for all your records. It takes a long time to get an initial appointment (2 months). The doctors aren’t super friendly, but the staff is good.... The nurses here are very good and caring. They are not super easy to get a hold of,but do get back to you in a reasonable time. The front office staff is very friendly—Shelly is very compassionate and always helpful. The gal who takes blood is super nice too.

IUI is about $500 with the 40% discount. Ultrasounds are around $240, but our insurance covered those. The really stressful part is that if you want to try billing insurance, you lose the 40% discount. Seems really unfair and the front desk won’t work with you on it. I called the billing department, though and was able to work out the discount when insurance didn’t cover the IUI.

He really takes the time to break down all test results and explain what they mean for the present and future treatment. He is great with answering any questions, and I can tell my treatment plan is tailored to mine and my husband’s needs.... Dr. Polotsky dissected each and every blood test result and paired it with my HSG results and ultrasound results. From there, he analyzed my husband’s test results as well. I have a high egg reserve, but many follicles.
Everyone at the clinic [Advanced Reproductive Med] is friendly and compassionate. They are extremely easy to work with. I always feel welcome. I wish they took earlier and later appointments. The clinic’s website has amazing success stories and highlights the doctors’ research, fertility news, and other interesting information....All of the nurses are great. I’ve dealt with Jeanie a lot and she is great. She is very clear and concise, and communicative.

Dr. Polotsky dissected each and every blood test result and paired it with my HSG results and ultrasound results. From there, he analyzed my husband’s test results as well. I have a high egg reserve, but many follicles. He made sure to start me on the lowest dose of Femara to ensure I did not overstimulate and have to cancel any cycles. I was monitored very closely regarding my progress, and adjustments were made where needed. He makes adjustments based on what he feels the success rates would be of each treatment protocol.

Dr.Dovey was great at communicating and showing compassion. She made every detail easy to understand and we really felt confident moving forward with our decision. She was very professional but also made us feel very comfortable at each appointment with her.... I had already done multiple tests with other doctors but Dr.Dovey recommended I have them done again. I underwent a HSG exam, pelvic ultrasound and bloodwork.
The clinic [U of CO] itself is somewhat outdated but it didn’t bother me. The treatment you receive makes up for that! I really enjoyed being a patient at this clinic. As much as I would have loved a different outcome, I would definitely recommend this clinic to friends and family.... I believe each IUI treatment was $400 plus the cost of medications, which was around $175 per cycle.

I had already done multiple tests with other doctors but Dr.Dovey recommended I have them done again. I underwent a HSG exam, pelvic ultrasound and bloodwork. I husband had another seamen analysis done. Everything came back “normal” and we were diagnosed with Unexplained Infertility. We had the option to proceed with IUIs or IVF. IVF is out of our budget, so we decided to do IUIs. I did one cycle with meds and the trigger shot along with timed intercourse. This resulted in a negative pregnancy test. I then did two cycles with meds, trigger shot and IUIs. These both resulted in negative pregnancy tests. My husband had to relocate for work, so we had to discontinue treatment.

Alex Polotsky is a very knowledgeable man and doctor in the fertility field. With the way his office is ran, it was very unusual to see him more than a few times which was just to update a treatment plan. When speaking with him about my treatments he spoke with confidence and knowledge of the subject yet lacked empathy and used very blunt tones.... With my particular case and the myriad of issues contributing it seemed like everything I was doing was a large science experiment and guess as he never could decide what the answers to my questions were or how these instances may effect me.
Overall this clinic [Advanced Repro Med] is very well managed. I have never received issues with billing and any complaints or questions I have were answered immediately. I am always able to reach someone with call backs the very same day. Issues, questions and concerns are rectified as soon as they can and definitely by the end of the day.... The only downside is not being able to see your actual “doctor” very often and when you do the bed side manner is just lacking, especially in comparison to the nursing staff.

With the way his office is ran, it was very unusual to see him more than a few times which was just to update a treatment plan. When speaking with him about my treatments he spoke with confidence and knowledge of the subject yet lacked empathy and used very blunt tones. I appreciate his honesty in some situations but he was not well in tuned with when these things should have been addressed more delicately so his patients don’t immediately leave and break down as they are doing so. Dr. Polotsky, knows his job and knows it well for standard cases. With my particular case and the myriad of issues contributing it seemed like everything I was doing was a large science experiment and guess as he never could decide what the answers to my questions were or how these instances may effect me. Overall I would rate Alex Polotsky as right in the middle.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Alex Polotsky at Advanced Reproductive Medicine (U of CO) (closed)?
If I were to give anyone advice before seeing Alex Polotsky is to be knowledgeable about what is going on. He is an intelligent man and speaks in a manner that when you may be new to this process you become very overwhelmed and lost. It is important to know about the process, options, and your own personal issues affecting fertility before speaking with him as he is not well versed in his charts or patients and steps towards the most aggressive approach right away.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Alex Polotsky at Advanced Reproductive Medicine (U of CO) (closed)?
I had felt like both a number and a human, both in different circumstances. It was very rare that I had interactions with my doctor. Everything I had done through the office he is in is run by his medical assistants and nurses. When I needed to get in contact with him I was sent through someone else unless I had to meet with him to update our plan. When actually meeting with him he didn’t know who I was like the rest of his staff did, which made me not feel like a number. He could recall certain aspects that made my case unique from others and was very open with what options were out there, which aided in making me feel less of a number.
Describe the protocols Alex Polotsky used in your cycles at Advanced Reproductive Medicine (U of CO) (closed) and their degree of success.
My particular protocol is induced cycles via medications. Once I hit day one of my cycle I was to call the office and they would schedule me for an ultrasound and blood work from day 1-3. My ovulation was monitored as I took Femara and returned to the office one or two times after the initial ultrasound and blood work. Around day 10 was when I was told to use my trigger injection, ovidrel. Three days after I began progesterone suppositories and called when I began my cycle again.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at Advanced Reproductive Medicine (U of CO) (closed).
The nursing staff is beyond exceptional at this office. Every nurse, tech and medical assistant knows me by name and situation. It is very helpful because I don’t feel like a stranger in this office and I don’t have to repeat my issues and story each time to another individual. They are always kind and smiling and really help pull you back when things get tough. This nursing staff is the ONLY reason I have stayed with this office.

Describe the costs associated with your care under Alex Polotsky at Advanced Reproductive Medicine (U of CO) (closed).
Cost for my IUI out of pocket was $350. With my insurance the rest of the treatments were covered after $2500 was spent in ultrasounds, monitoring and testing. Medication was on top of this price.
Describe Alex Polotsky's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Advanced Reproductive Medicine (U of CO) (closed).
In my case, with a Unicornuate uterus, Dr. Polotsky felt strongly about transferring only one embryo. This seems to be the consensus according to my own research. Although with the lack of funds to proceed with IVF I don’t necessarily agree with the low chances I have.

I really enjoyed working with Dr Murray and her team. I feel like my health and and how I felt about my care where their top priority. I also really appreciate how if I had any questions after an appointment all I needed to do was email my nurse or call the clinic in which case my questions were always answered In a timely manner. ..I really like how she doesn’t sugarcoat, she just tells it like it is and I really appreciate it. You can tell that she values each and everyone of her patients and their care is her top priority.
I couldn’t be happier with this clinic [U of Colorado]. I think they are the best and I would recommend them to everyone I know. I really enjoyed working with Dr Murray and her team. I feel like my health and and how I felt about my care where their top priority. I also really appreciate how if I had any questions after an appointment all I needed to do was email my nurse or call the clinic in which case my questions were always answered In a timely manner. Dr Murray and her staff value each and every patient that walks through their doors and really do try their hardest to help people reach their goals of creating a family. I would recommend this team to anyone I know struggling to conceive.
Describe the protocols Shona Murray used in your cycles at Advanced Reproductive Medicine (U of CO) (closed) and their degree of success.
If I remember correctly I’m pretty sure I was on an agonist Proto call. I was prescribed Gonal-F, menopur and cetrotide. The only bump in the road we had with these medicines was that I was a slow responder and we had to increase the dose at one point. Other than that everything went smoothly. When it came to egg retrieval we discovered that my egg quality is not very good but that is because of past medical history.

Dr. Murray was very knowledgeable. She seemed to understand the burden that infertility carries too.... She was very caring. Her bedside manner was exceptional. She thought IVF was our only option but still tried her hardest with injections to achieve pregnancy.... We did approximately six cycles of gonal-f with trigger shot one of those cycles we added in menopuer (sp?) and cetrotide (sp?). The idea was to get follicles on my left ovary that had an open tube.
The clinic [U of CO] is very clean and organized. It was very rarely busy so they gave me the feeling that I was a person and not a number. There wasn't ever any confusions an who you were. The ladies at the desk after a few times knew your name and little bits of about you so that made for a more personable experience.... Jenny was the nurse who did most of my ultrasounds for monitoring. She is the sweetest, most caring nurse I have ever met in all my years of seeing doctors for infertility.
How was your experience with Shona Murray at Advanced Reproductive Medicine (U of CO) (closed)?
Dr. Murray was very knowledgeable. She seemed to understand the burden that infertility carries too. She would comfort to the best of her abilities after every failed cycle and had a positive attitude moving forwars. My only complaint I had is that I wanted a surgery done to get me a set in stone diagnosis and to remove my hyrdo. She refused to do the surgery saying that it wouldn't make a difference. After seeing a new doctor I found out that my blockage was on the wrong side and a hydrosalpinx really does "make a difference".

She was very caring. Her bedside manner was exceptional. She thought IVF was our only option but still tried her hardest with injections to achieve pregnancy. She understood that with Tricare not covering IVF that we couldn't afford it.

I was never told about my egg reserve being low [by Dr. Shona Murray]. I was told I was fine...I felt really good at the start, but I did an IUI in December and before my 2 week wait was over she had me come in and acted like she already knew it wasn't going to work. She just kept saying that really sucks and Im sorry. This was a horrible way to go into this waiting period. If she had reservations why didn't she go over those with us? Recommend something else? She just assumed it wouldn't work with no explanation to us at all.
Everyone was very nice and always explained what they were doing [at Advanced Reproductive Medicine]...wanted to see another doctor prior to going forward with IVF and this clinic made it so difficult to get my records transferred it was horrible. They were overly rude about the whole process as well, made me never want to go back. Like second options are not allowed...Very organized and polite. However, they do not give you definitive answers to what is going on. I wish I had asked more questions. Be sure to ask as lots of questions, get the answers, then move forward with treatment.

She [Dr. Shona Murray] wanted me to bypass clomid and letrozole completely because she didn't believe they had good results (even though I had never tried either of those) and placed me on follistim/gonal f. Although she monitored me very closely, when I did not respond to the medication as she had hoped she began to become openly very frustrated; she told me that she had "never" had a patient like me before and she wanted me to bypass IUI (without trying with clomid/letrozole) and go to IVF. She also quoted the success statistics per cycle of timed intercourse with injections to be the same or higher than an IUI cycle. I'm a RN and we left her care after I spent time reading the medical guidelines and newest published research studies which I was fortunate to have access to- all of which contradicted her approach.
Strengths [of U of CO -Co Springs]: Small office which makes it easier to not feel like a number. Typically don't have to even sign in after the 2nd appointment. Nurses are amazing. Lab technicians are also very kind. Weaknesses: ultrasounds were never completed on Saturday only Sunday which I felt for optimal timing should be open 7 days a week. Weekend appointments are with whoever is on call and they don't convey their results to the primary doctor. I had a cycle cancelled due to lack of communication between the on call provider. Monitoring appointments typically ALWAYS ran behind by about 1 hr. Billing can be difficult to coordinate with insurance-I was told my insurance definitely would not cover IUI which turned out to be false.

When I first met Dr. Murray she was skeptical that I even had infertility even though we had been trying to conceive for a year and I was convinced there was something wrong. She wanted us to continue trying on our own for several more months and I refused and we began timed intercourse cycles.

My first encounter with Dr. Murray I felt like she really cared about me as an individual and would work well with us to achieve our goals of pregnancy. However, as the months progressed she became more blunt, rushed, and sometimes came across as uncaring.

The nurses were wonderful and probably the reason I stayed as long as I did. Jeanie did most of my monitoring appointments and was always so incredibly kind. She comforted me many times when I was in tears about the results of the ultrasound. She also was incredibly thoughtful about preserving my privacy during ultrasounds (such as keeping the room dark, drape in place, etc). The few ultrasounds I had with Dr. Murray she kept the lights bright, and threw the drape completely off me.

Dr. Murray was curt and unsympathetic at times. Did not communicate with the staff about my treatment and was frustrated with me for their mistakes. She did not perform any of the big parts of my transfer. At my final appointment she made incredibly rude comments about my fertility moving forward and the future of our family. She also made very negative assumptions about my condition that were not backed up by any tests whatsoever...
The receptionist [at Advanced Reproductive Medicine (U of CO) - Colorado Springs] is extremely unfriendly and can be rude when asked questions. The nursing staff seems uninformed and made several mistakes in my time there. I had to follow up on things they told me they would take care of and everything seemed disorganized. No one assisted us with understanding the financial pieces and discussing insurance. We were made to feel that using our insurance was wrong and a pain for them. We were also given different pricing by different people, charged for procedures that never took place and got attitude for trying to clarify financial or insurance questions...

Be your own advocate and speak up. Don't trust them to communicate well and ask questions about your care. She would not be the doctor I would choose to see in this practice. Always ask them to test first before they make assumptions about your care. If there is a change in drugs, make sure that all staff are on the same page and that you are not prescribed wrong medications.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Shona Murray at Advanced Reproductive Medicine (U of CO) (closed)?
Many mistakes were made, no sympathy or concern. Communication about treatment was extremely poor. Appointments were very brief and comments were made about adoption that were extremely insensitive to our situation.

We used birth control, estrogen patches and vaginal progesterone. We used ultrasounds to check lining and a stitch was put in my cervix for the transfer.

Many communication issues, messed up medications, forgot to send schedules, sent wrong dates on schedules and failed to follow up. Describe the specific things that went wrong at Advanced Reproductive Medicine (U of CO) (closed).
Birth control was not given in time and so a cycle was postponed, then the wrong birth control was given by a nurse (not cleared by the doctor) which resulted in worsening of cysts and a cancelled cycle. The doctor upon learning of the wrong birth control blamed the patient, not the nurse the prescribed it. Then the wrong dates were put on the schedule, wrong appointments were scheduled and rescheduled resulting in confusion and major frustration. I had to call the clinic for results when I was told they would call me. In my very sensitive appointment after my failed frozen transfer, I was told that my ovarian reserve was so terrible that the Dr. may not consider doing another round for us even though my levels had not been checked in several years. After being checked a month later at another clinic, my levels were found to be within normal limits. Dr. Murray told me that we should consider adoption although that might be a problem for the adopted child as we already had our biological child. My appointment with her was cut very short by another staff member interrupting and telling her that she was late for her next appointment and she left me crying in the office with very little sympathy. Several months later we received bills from the clinic for procedures that never took place and it took multiple calls to get the charges taken off of our bill.

Dr. Murray is very professional and, as she has done her job for many years, is more interested in the facts rather than focusing on the individual. She wants to help you get pregnant as quickly and easily as she can which can be off putting when you think you should be getting a therapy session during your consultation!...I took a 2 year break between visits and she remembered me and my case as soon as she heard my name come up which was very relieving. She doesn't have the greatest bedside manner, but makes up for it with her confidence in achieving the overall goal.
[Advanced Reproductive Medicine (U of CO)] Clinic is located in a children's hospital on the top floor. This can be problematic when seeking fertility treatment. Office itself is adorned with photos of babies which can still be concerning for some. Otherwise clinic is clean and welcoming...Nursing staff is great! They do their jobs well and are extremely nice!...Insurance has covered consultation and diagnosis + labs. We haven't done any treatment resulting in a cost yet, but cost was NOT discussed by doctor.

There was absolutely zero compassion from Dr Murry. She talked to us like we were just wasting her time. Instead of talking about options, all she did was repeating herself on how low the odds were for conceiving to the point I had to interrupt her to let her know she's made her point, we do understand and there was no need to keep saying the same thing over and over. My wife and I had already done our research and didn't need to hear how unlikely it was 8 times. We wanted to hear that she understood our position and we were willing to take a chance regardless of how low the odds were.

At one point I was kept waiting to meet with her [Dr. Murray] for 30 minutes and could hear myself referred to by symptoms and age and not name from the next room “that one with the stim meds and unexplained infertility” etc. ... An experienced provider who seems to run through the motions. ... She was very sought after and had a waitlist for appointments. My perception was that she had her routine and wanted to go through the motions. ...
Location [Advanced Repro Med (U of CO0 is strange and is just in an office building. They do NOT do IVF at their practice. This is misleading. You must travel to Denver for those services but this is in no way stated until you are already well into receiving care. ... The amount of information received varied depending on which nurse you had for the day. Jodi was very organized and helpful with all of the scheduling and medication ordering.
How was your experience with Shona Murray at Advanced Reproductive Medicine (U of CO) (closed)?
An experienced provider who seems to run through the motions. Clinically skilled but probably overworked. She was very sought after and had a waitlist for appointments. My perception was that she had her routine and wanted to go through the motions.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Shona Murray at Advanced Reproductive Medicine (U of CO) (closed)?
Be prepared to wait for an Appt. Once you are in, then it’s much easier to be seen. I felt like the treatment wasn’t as personalized as I would like and they wanted to just keep trying different things. Their approach was very conservative.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Shona Murray at Advanced Reproductive Medicine (U of CO) (closed)?
There were times where it seemed that she didn’t remember my case or background information. At one point I was kept waiting to meet with her for 30 minutes and could hear myself referred to by symptoms and age and not name from the next room “that one with the stim meds and unexplained infertility” etc.

Our insurance did not cover anything outside of times intercourses which was a factor when choosing what treatments to pursue.

Dr. Murray was amazing. She really talked me through everything and she took into consideration my feelings and what I wanted and how I wanted to proceed in terms of treatment plans....I suffer from PCOS so they had to watch for OHSS. So they did entry of monitoring. I was surprised when they for 21 eggs. 17 fertilized through icsi and 8 made it to 5 day blasts.
I think their team [at Advanced Reproductive Medicine (U of CO)] of embryologists are wonderful. Very skilled. They have two locations, one in Colorado Springs and one in Denver. All retrieval and transfers are done up in Denver. But all monitoring can be done in Colorado Springs which was convenient to me. They really try to help make sure they are using what insurance benefits are available. And if there are any trials or anything to try those as well.
How was your experience with Shona Murray at Advanced Reproductive Medicine (U of CO) (closed)?
Dr. Murray really does recommend what she thinks is best but if you have other feelings she will listen and take your wants into consideration as well.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Shona Murray at Advanced Reproductive Medicine (U of CO) (closed)?
As with the entire journey, be your own best advocate. Be educated and if you feel you should be taking a more or less aggressive course of treatment say something.

She [Dr. Serena Dovey] was very helpful and understanding. Always answered all our questions, even if they seemed redundant. She listened to both my husband and I. Even if I saw Another doctor in the clinic, she would still follow up.... Dr Dovey listened to what we needed and was cautious with each treatment cycle.
They [Advanced Reproductive Medicine U of CO- Colorado Springs] were always able to get us in and answer any questions we had. Bring your questions with you to each appointment. Just like most doctors offices, the wait time is sometimes long. The nurses were very helpful and encouraging.... When we lost our pregnancy, they were very helpful and understanding of the process. They regularly checked on us.

When I said I wanted to do IUI, she [Dr. Dovey] didn't question that. She accepted our choice and we made a plan...With my history with PCOS and clomid, she suggested we use letrazole and booster shots...She really reviewed our history before each visits. She obviously cares and gives us information in easy to digest ways. She explains it fully, and never rushes me during appointments. I feel very comfortable with her, and feel understood...She is a very kind lady, who really takes the time to fully explain all the details of my health issues, the IUI process, and everything in between. I never feel rushed with her. I am so thankful to feel understood and cared about.
It's a relatively small clinic [University of Colorado: Advanced Reproductive Medicine] , so I interact with most of the staff at each visit. They are kind and compassionate. they keep me chatting, which I find helpful during this stressful time...We are paying cash, and they offer a 40% discount for cash patients...They are easy to work with. Clear in instructions. And straightforward.

With my history with PCOS and clomid, she suggested we use letrazole and booster shots. Because we've done so many rounds of clomid without success, she is starting us at the middle dosage of letrazole. I am so glad to not feel like we're wasting a month of time on a lower dosage. When I said I wanted to do IUI, she didn't question that. She accepted our choice and we made a plan.

She [Dr. Murray] took the time to personally do my ultrasounds and explain things to me... Towards the end I didn't see her much. Some of her comments had set me off a little. She said quite a few times at the start of my 3rd cycle, "just get pregnant this time" or things along those lines. She was very good at explaining things and making sure I knew what to expect....1st cycle: 50 units of follistim for 12 nights with trigger. 1 18mm follicle 2nd cycle: 75 units of follistim for 11 days with trigger.
Had a bad experience with nurses [Advanced Reproductive Med (U of CO)]. Had to correct the information they told me multiple times and were completely insensitive... Billing was easy. Great location. Generally they were delayed. Nursing assistants were amazing. Took a while to get a call back. Wish they would be better about being timely. Clean offices. Good ultrasound tech

Success w/ Doc Not sure
Very heartwarming experience with her [Dr. Shona Murray]. I felt listened to and she shows compassion. I always left my visits feeling good and knew what to expect next. My husband felt better about Dr Murray then anyone else we had seen... She was the best doctor I have seen to date . She was personable and blunt and gave me all the information I needed
The nurses [at Univ of CO- CO Springs] were awesome and saved me from hitting my head when I passed out while drawing blood... A weakness would be when we tried to get in to the male infertility doctor in Denver. That process took a long time. And we haven’t finished that process and my husband is deploying so now we will have to wait another seven months. But this clinic is great we love going there.
