Schutt had a calm and reassuring demeanor and always happy to answer all questions. I never felt like a number.

Describe the protocols Amy Schutt used in your cycles at Baylor / Texas Childrens and their degree of success.

While I am 36, I have no infertility diagnosis, our only issue was MFI (my AMH was even good at 4.3), so my protocol was very straight forward and minimal. I started my ER cycle with birth control until I was ready for stims to start (they even helped to manipulate my cycle based on a big work trip). I started with Menopur & Gonal and then as I progressed, Cetrotide was added in. I responded so well that I ended up only taking meds for 8 days (instead of 9) and triggered a day early. I was at a slight risk for OHSS, so they had me do a double trigger (Lupron and HCG). I started with 14 follicles under 9mm and ended up with 32 follicles between 10mm and 23mm. In total, I got 22 eggs, 19 were mature, 17 fertilized with ICSI, and ended up with 6 blasts (one day 5 and six day 6). After PGT-A testing I had 4 euploids, 2 boys and 2 girls. Schutt only offers frozen transfers and also requires a cycle off in between ER and FET as a cooling off period from hormones so that the body can recover. The month of FET, I started with estrogen patches and then 5 days before FET, added in PiO and Crinone suppositories. First try was a success (so far) and am currently graduated from the clinic and am 11 weeks pregnant.

Nurse Bobbie was absolutely incredible. She completely made the experience at the clinic what it was and her care and compassion was so genuine. I found myself looking the most forward to seeing her after procedures! She was super responsive and answered everything thoroughly and timely. Even when other nurses would answer on Bobbie’s days off, everything was answered super quickly.

I had a fantastic experience at FFC. Every single person from billing, genetics counseling, nurses, doctors, residents and even the front desk were the best of the best. I truly felt so taken care of, that I was sad to leave!

Self pay pricing was $18,500 for one ER cycle and one FET cycle. Everything was included (procedures, monitoring, blood work, office visits, testing, etc) except embryo biopsy, PGT-A testing, medicine, and anesthesia. PGT-A Testing (6 embryos) - $1200 from Igenomix Biopsy - $800 Anesthesia- $750 ER meds (IVF Pharmacy) $3,000 FET meds $300-500. Genetic Carrier Test (Invitae) $250 (for both people together)

It [Baylor/Texas Childrens] is a teaching hospital, so expect that there will be residents and fellows who would like to also be involved in your care...The nurses were always so kind while visiting the clinic and would show empathy towards us if we had any issues. When we got our positive pregnancy test, she was probably more excited for us than we were (we were still in shock). When we graduated from her office to our OB, she cried alongside us with happy tears and celebrated our success. We could tell her responses were pure and genuine. We continue to stay in touch with her and can't wait for her to meet our baby!

Dr. Schutt was condescending and acted like I should be grateful just to be in her office instead of acknowledging all of the frustrations I had gone through (secondary infertility as a result of a missed complication from my first pregnancy). She was very cold during the consult and would randomly ask to see photos of my daughter or husband during inappropriate parts of the consult such as discussing my previous surgical history which felt forced and uncomfortable (and not medically relevant). Her documentation/note of my appointment also included many factual inaccuracies (she misdated when I underwent specific medical workup, when my daughter was conceived, and when I delivered my daughter). She also scheduled a procedure for me and then called two weeks later to cancel without providing a further or alternative treatment option. Overall it was a horrible experience that I still shudder thinking about, I am forever grateful that I did not continue my fertility treatment under her care.

Change your appointment to be with a different provider.

Dr. Schutt's office changed the time of my appointment by multiple hours the morning of the scheduled appointment and I had to ask a co-worker to cover for me to make it to the appointment. The entire time I was in the consult Dr. Schutt acted like I should be grateful that she made the time to see me instead of discussing what I had gone through and led me to her office.

She used 100mg of clomid for the IUIs and the timed intercourse. Then she used 450 of gonal f, 2 vials of menopur, cetrotide and the trigger. She also used HGH to prime. Her rationale (even when I asked her about mini ivf) was that with DOR women, this was the protocol research confirmed worked best. She also mentioned that if it didn’t work out, she would be happy to try something different.

She is flexible, knowledgeable and approachable. She will repeat the information a thousand times if necessary. The team as a whole is very good.

Each iui was $600 out of pocket, and the clomid as well. Then my husband changed jobs and had a better insurance that covered 10k in fertility meds and 10k in procedures. I still had to pay over 5k out of pocket for medications and I’m still waiting for the procedure bills. The insurance won’t cover a 2nd ivf cycle, and out of pocket costs are around 13k

Just know that TCH/BCM is an academic institution. You will have residents/fellows observing your treatment.... I was impressed with every nurse that I met. I had a death in my family during treatment and I was afraid that it would impact my treatment.

Initially, I had cysts on both ovaries due to previous treatment. I was put on birth control to make the cysts go away for one cycle. During this time, I never felt that she "forgot" about me. Now that the cysts are gone, we are proceeding with an IUI with Letrozole and Ovidrel.

I was impressed with every nurse that I met. I had a death in my family during treatment and I was afraid that it would impact my treatment. The Nurse called me immediately and we were able to adjust my meds and go forward with the IUI.

We have had one successful egg retrieval and are waiting to here embryo numbers in the next few days. We will hopefully have a frozen transfer with Dr Z as well.

He [Dr. Paul Zarutskie] has the perfect combination of compassion, empathy, realism and deep medical expertise that you want in a doctor in this field. He is a terrific communicator in a field where a lot of the decisions for patients are not black and white; he always answered any and all questions I had in great detail and was honest when the "right" decision was a bit ambiguous. Dr. Zarutskie was recommended by a friend I trust a great deal. He has the perfect combination of compassion, empathy, realism and deep medical expertise that you want in a doctor in this field. He is a terrific communicator in a field where a lot of the decisions for patients are not black and white; he always answered any and all questions I had in great detail and was honest when the "right" decision was a bit ambiguous. Dr. Zarutskie's entire staff was professional and great at communication. My primary nurse was Brandy, who was fantastic. Everything is through the patient portal, and she was always prompt to respond to any questions I sent through that. She also was very empathetic and compassionate about how she communicated with patients, which always helps as it's already a stressful process to begin with. The front desk staff and ultrasound techs were also very professional and kind; I only had positive experiences with all of them.

Ultrasound appts and lab appts both started at 7am every day, which is very convenient for patients who work full time. The only downside to this clinic is that it's part of TCH so there was always a wait to get your labs done given the high number of patients being treated in the same lab.

Monitoring was scheduled at certain intervals, depending on the type of cycle. They’re always done in the morning, normally before 1030 in order for the provider to review results and give you an update by mid-day for any changes you might need to evening protocols.

For IVF cycle with my own egg retreival it was $13,500 up front. This covered all office visits, labs, ultrasounds and embryo transfer. If anything wasn’t completed, you got refunded whatever amount was left at the end. This did not include any medications, they were purchased separately for roughly $3000-4000. For a donor embryo transfer it was $3000 up front which again included office visits, labs, monitoring and procedure. Medications again were not covered and purchased separately for about $1000.

(IVF with normal AMH, male factor infertility) IVF with birth control day 2 of full flow -daily gonal F, menopur, and Cetrotide -egg retrieval 1.5 month break—for PGS results, ERA procedure and to give body a break FET with frozen 5 day transfer -estrogen patches x 3 every 48 hours -blood draw and u/s day 12 -start Crinone vaginal gel x 2 daily -substitute PIO for PM Crinone every 72 hours -blood draw day 14 -transfer day 18 -change estrogen patches to 2 every 48 hours, continue Crinone Gel And PIO for total of 10 weeks -HCG levels day 10, 12 and 17 after transfer

As stated before, My husband and I had seen fertility doctors before who told us we were not meant to be parents. Each and every time that doctors words come to my mind Dr. Schutt goes out of her way to explain what great parents we will be. She always asks "what do you think about this" which gives me a moment to pause and say the fear or questions I have. She is never rushing us to the next person, I don't think I have seen her wear a watch or have a clock in her office. I often cry at appointments and when I say " I am sorry for crying" she always tells me that She cried a lot to and it is normal to cry. I know that doctors in fertility know the desperation everyone has when they visit. With the other doctors I always felt like a walking dollar sign but with Dr. Schutt, I feel like she is on my team. I feel as though while we are fighting this battle she has picked up the sword and is running full force in to the mess with us. No strings attached. Just wants to help us.

When my husband and I started on this journey we were told by someone at another clinic that I was not fit to be a mother because of the my views on a topic. Nautically that was hard to process. Like every doctor, our first visit with Dr. Amy Schutt she asked us what our experience was on this journey. After sharing what happens she stopped the appointment to tell me what a great mother I would be and that she would help me get there. We started seeing her a few months ago, I did an ultra sound and some labs. I took some medication to start my period because I had not ovulated in over 3 months. Since then we have been playing the waiting game to see what is the best option. At first we planned on doing IUI this month however my husbands labs came back lower than we planned, so she took them time to explain IVF to us. A few of my friends have tried and lost children in IVF so I felt like I lost all of my hope. She sat with us for 30-45 minutes to calm me down and even changed my mind on IVF. I know we are in the begging stages of all of this, but I feel so much hope with her.

It is very difficult to get appointments.

Clomid was sent to pharmacy in wrong dose. When I called to tell them, the nurse asked me “What makes you think you should be taking more?” My doctor had told me to take more after my failed IUI. After a while, my pharmacy notified me that the new dose was ready. Not my clinic. I didn’t receive a call with my beta HCG until I requested a call at 4:30pm. We had discussed doing an ERA but my paperwork and instructions all stated FET. The day of my beta HCG there was no order in the system and I had to wait for it to get put in.

I was impressed with the amount of time that Dr. Gibbons and his fellow spent with me. It's easy to see that he cares about his patients and wants them to have a ssuccessful pregnancy.... He is incredibly intelligent and is an accomplished RE. He is what I call a "fast talker" and uses mostly medical jargon so it is tough to keep up with his train of thought sometimes...All in all, we find that he is personable and a good option as far as RE's go...

I have been impressed with the clinic. The office [Baylor/Texas Childrens] is located in the new section of the hospital so it is modern and clean. The hospital is so large that it's tough to navigate, but they kindly provide a map and other helpful information for you on your first visit to help. One weakness is that the blood lab is inconveniently located and seems to always have a long wait.... The nursing staff has been wonderful! They are friendly, supportive, and extremely knowledgeable.

Thankfully, through my infertility journey I have read enough books where I could follow along okay, but I could see where someone could leave a bit confused. All in all, we find that he is personable and a good option as far as RE's go.

What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of William Gibbons at Baylor / Texas Childrens?

My advice would to be to always bring a notebook so that you can jot quick notes while he's talking.

I was impressed with the amount of time that Dr. Gibbons and his fellow spent with me. It's easy to see that he cares about his patients and wants them to have a ssuccessful pregnancy.

So far we are still in the stage of doing a lot of testing. After our initial 3 hour consult, he ordered a large panel of bloodwork to be done. He was checking for clotting disorders, lupus markers, thyroid issues, prediabetic markers, and did a karotype. He also is having me do a certain HSG that tests my uterine cavity. For my husband who has a normal sperm count, he is having a lab perform a test call a Sperm Fish to determine if the dna in his sperm is aligned properly.

The nursing staff has been wonderful! They are friendly, supportive, and extremely knowledgeable.

I have been impressed with the clinic. The office is located in the new section of the hospital so it is modern and clean. The hospital is so large that it's tough to navigate, but they kindly provide a map and other helpful information for you on your first visit to help. One weakness is that the blood lab is inconveniently located and seems to always have a long wait.

So far we have only had a consult amd we have great health insurance so we just had to pay our $40 copay. The only other expense so far is for my husbands Sperm Fish procedure. Because it is not covered by insurance, we have to pay $1,050.00 out of pocket.

He [Dr. William Gibbons] is very nice but make sure you ask questions...Everything is online which is helpful as a reminder but it is still needed to talk to the doctor. He [Dr. Williams Gibbons] was very warm during initial apppintment and ultrasound. During second appointment, he delivered news that I was infertile in a very matter of fact way without allowing me time to process. I didn't even know what PCOS was and was just placed on 500mg dose of Metformin. He asked a nurse to come in and discuss my IUI instructions and scheduled and I started crying. They did not even ask me if I wanted to do IUI or test my progesterone to see if I was ovulating.

[Baylor Texas Childrens] May not be best for someone trying to figure out their fertility issues and not yet diagnosed with an issue. Is better for someone who is ready to do IVF right away... Dr. Gibbons was very nice at initial appointment and gentle with transvaginal ultrasound. He was an hour late, very pushy towards IVF and IUI without much explanation and easily frustrated at the next appointment. However, he will run any tests for you and if you don't want to try other options or get tested for anything and jump straight to IVF or IUI then he may be a good fit for you

I wanted to discuss my infertility more and what could be tested and treated since only my A1c and AMH was tested in initial appointment. They kept on pushing for IVF saying that due to my high AMH levels, I'm an excellent candidate. The doctor got upset that I was crying because the nurse had scolded him for not being thorough with me before calling her in. He asked if I wanted a hug after I explained that the push for IUI/IVF without further testing, clomid, or increased Metformin made no sense. He said he answered all of my questions (I had questions about my thyroid afffecting my fertility) and what more did I want. I was very shocked because he was so much nicer at the initial appointment. I am now searching for another RE.

I...wouldn't hesitate to refer him [Dr. Gibson] to others...His communication style and bedside manner are probably not for everyone. He has an "odd" sense of humor...The only time I questioned him was after our failed transfer. I was devastated... Dr. Gibbons came off as brusque and defensive at that particular appointment, which was exactly what we did not need at that time...He is a brilliant man, and tremendously passionate about his work and his patients. If you can get past his quirky sense of humor he is an amazing doctor.

Dr. Gibbons and his nurses made me feel like the most important patient they were treating. They responded to every single one of my questions in a timely manner. They always knew the details of my case....I can see how the TMC is not ideal for everyone. As far as scheduling goes, the clinic is amazing. They were rarely running behind, and monitoring appointments were amazingly efficient. The not so great...it was impossible for anyone to tell me how much anything would or could cost. Every bill was a complete surprise. I got into a huge fight with Greater Houston Anesthesiology over a double bill situation, and more than a year after my first retrieval I'm still not SURE that I am done paying for everything!

I have already referred Dr. Gibbons to two friends, and wouldn't hesitate to refer him to others as well. I am forever grateful to him and his office for his knowledge and expertise. His communication style and bedside manner are probably not for everyone. He has an "odd" sense of humor. But it worked for my husband and me, and he is a giant in his field. The only time I questioned him was after our failed transfer. I was devastated. We had a PGS tested embryo; we had done a day 6 transfer based on my ERA results; we did everything right. And it took us six full months just to get to that failed transfer. And we couldn't REALLY understand why the transfer had failed. I doubted the ERA test; I wondered if we needed to repeat; I wondered if some of my PGS non normal embryos should have been transferred; and I wondered if I was with the right clinic altogether based on SART data. Dr. Gibbons came off as brusque and defensive at that particular appointment, which was exactly what we did not need at that time. We did end up scheduling a consult with a different clinic, but ultimately decided to stick with Gibbons. I am glad I did. Our second cycle was a success.

Describe the protocols William Gibbons used in your cycles at Baylor / Texas Childrens and their degree of success.

My first cycle was 300 follistim and 2 vials of menopur each night, and cetrotide toward the end of stimming. Six eggs were retrieved. Five were mature. Four fertilized and they all made it to day 5 blasts. We biopsies them all for PGS. Only one came back as normal. The next step was an endometrial receptivity assay (ERA). The day five results came back as pre receptive. We scheduled a day 6 transfer for my lone blast. It came back negative. We started up again with the addition of HGH to my stim cycle plus increased follistim to 450. The second retrieval netted 8 eggs. Only 3 made it to blast from that round, and again only one genetically normal embryo. We transferred on day 6 again and I am currently 18 weeks pregnant with that blast.

De. Gibbons' nurses are absolute angels. They are knowledgeable and compassionate and respond to every single question and MyChart message with a thoughtful and complete answer. They are amazing.

We had insurance coverage for 75% of treatment costs up to $15,000, and a $3,500 prescription drug cap. I total we spent more than $18,000 out of pocket on medical expenses last year, which included two egg retrievals, two rounds of PGS testing, an ERA test, and two transfers, plus all my meds.

Dr. Schutt explained all of the procedures and test in layman’s terms, she explained what all the results of those tests meant, and always let us know what the “game plan” would be or what our schedule may look like going forward. Throughout our journey she would always show compassion and empathy when our results were negative. And when we had our miracle baby during our first FET she came and visited us in the hospital.

The clinic’s [ Baylor / Texas Childrens] strengths included very short wait times to see the doctor, responded quickly to questions sent via email, and provided a financial counselor. All of the testing was done on site so that was also beneficial...The nurse are very responsive to any emails or messages you leave. They communicated well and showed compassion...[Dr. Schutt] would take the time to ask me how I was doing emotionally and mentally and allow me time to vent.
