Attention to Detail

Attention to detail is on a 1 - 10 scale, and is scored based on the rate, and severity, of errors committed by the clinic according to the patients.

For example, a severe error might be failing to inform a patient of critical information, while a small error might be failing to call a patient with results.

CDC Success Rates

This is the most recent data from the CDC. The CDC cautions that it should not be used to compare doctors and clinics. This data represents the outcomes of IVF cycles when using a person's own eggs.

For more information please see our FAQs.

Where you see a “?” on the chart, a clinic has done fewer than 20 cycles in this category and age range, so the CDC says showing percentages from this small data set would be misleading and unreliable.

Dr. Schmidt is a very warm doctor who you feel really cares about the outcome for you...you do not see your doctor as much as you see the nurses and staff. I am ok with this but I can see how some people could feel like a number...I really enjoyed sitting down and speaking with Dr. Schmidt. He always has a smile on his face and seems to bring a positive vibe with him in the room. He really took the time to sit with my husband and I and to explain everything in detail with us. This process can be very difficult and especially when things aren't going as you planned having a good doctor behind you is key.

Few in person visits with him [Dr. David Schmidt]. Professional staff but too little communication from them. The explanation of the processes was confusing especially the scheduling...I was suggested to do the multiple embryo transfer...Be prepared to deal with the nurses and not to be able to see doctor when you need him...

Dr. Benadiva was very open about the possible risks with a multiple embryo transfer and strongly encouraged single embryo transfer...He has taken the time to personally call when changes occur in the plan...has been great and thorough throughout our time seeing him. He is very straightforward and open about any concerns that he has. He is always willing to provide input in order to better help us make a decision.
The financial aspect of the Center for Advanced Reproductive Services can be frustrating to deal with, but the doctors and nurses are what keeps is coming back. Dr. Grow made us feel comfortable and confident from our first meeting...did not see him much through the process...ensured us that we were always in good hands and that he was overseeing every step of the IVF process for us...was kind, compassionate, and patient
[Center for Advanced Reproductive Services (UCONN Medical)] was well organized, clean, and had wonderful staff...welcoming, friendly, and kind...gave us plenty of time to consider all of our options and answer any questions we might have...excellent at getting us prepared to deal with insurance
How was your experience with Daniel Grow at Center for Advanced Reproductive Services (First Fertility Network Clinic)?
Dr. Grow made us feel comfortable and confident from our first meeting. Although we did not see him much through the process, as other doctors performed certain procedures, he ensured us that we were always in good hands and that he was overseeing every step of the IVF process for us. In the times we did meet him (via zoom) he was kind, compassionate, and patient. It was wonderful to work with him.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Daniel Grow at Center for Advanced Reproductive Services (First Fertility Network Clinic)?
He will not see him as often as you would like but he will communicate with you regularly regardless
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Daniel Grow at Center for Advanced Reproductive Services (First Fertility Network Clinic)?
Dr. Grown had multiple consults with us before beginning the IVF process. He took his time to go through our medical histories, test results, and discuss desired outcomes from this process. He also took the time to explain the process and answer any questions we had. He made us feel so hopeful and was so incredibly kind.
Describe the protocols Daniel Grow used in your cycles at Center for Advanced Reproductive Services (First Fertility Network Clinic) and their degree of success.
We were referred to The Center due to male factor infertility. Dr.Grow confirmed these results and explained our options, knowing that our goal was to achieve a positive pregnancy result. Because of our situation he recommended IVF using ICSI right away. We were discharged from the clinic after having a positive pregnancy result (confirmed by many rounds of bloodwork and an ultrasound on week 7) after our first IVC Cycle.
Describe your experience with your nurse at Center for Advanced Reproductive Services (First Fertility Network Clinic). (Assigned nurse: Lynsey)
Lynsey was amazing at communicating with me and making sure I was fully prepared for every part of the IVF cycle. She answered all questions promptly and gave me guidance when I needed it. I cannot reiterate how critical of a role she played in this process in making me feel at ease. She was wonderful!
Describe your experience with Center for Advanced Reproductive Services (First Fertility Network Clinic).
The clinic was well organized, clean, and had wonderful staff. Every member of the team that I met, from reception to phlebotomist, were welcoming, friendly, and kind. There is a lot of information to take in when beginning the process and the clinic gave us plenty of time to consider all of our options and answer any questions we might have. They were also excellent at getting us prepared to deal with insurance ahead of time so that it was not a concern while we were going through treatments. Overall it is a wonderful clinic to work with.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Daniel Grow at Center for Advanced Reproductive Services (First Fertility Network Clinic).
Besides copay for some medications, all costs were covered by my insurance once my deductible was met.

[Dr. Benadiva] was clearly competent and was really helpful in directing my care, but in the 8 months I was being treated at the clinic, I met him twice. If you want a hands on doctor, he’s not it. I did feel like he was working behind the scenes in my overall treatment plan and I know whatever happened had been run by him...The visits were also pretty quick with him which for me was fine, but just something to know...
[our UCONN nurse] was always willing to answer any questions I had and I always got a return phone call when I left a message...Since I was doing iui, my lesbian status didn’t really routinely come up. But at the clinic my partner was always welcomed and we were treated as any other couple, which was nice...Overall they were fine. The atmosphere was warm, and I rarely ever felt like just a number (only on weekends when the usually staff wasn’t there). The front desk staff was professional and treated me with kindness, and the check-in process was efficient.

Don’t expect him to spend lots of time with you during each visit he sees you. He is friendly, but also very efficient.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Claudio Benadiva at Center for Advanced Reproductive Services (First Fertility Network Clinic)?
Each time I see him, it was clear he knew my case and medical history, but he wasn’t super warm. The visits were also pretty quick with him which for me was fine, but just something to know.
Describe the protocols Claudio Benadiva used in your cycles at Center for Advanced Reproductive Services (First Fertility Network Clinic) and their degree of success.
The first three cycles of iui were done with the use of Letrozole and me charting my own hormones through the use of at home fertility monitoring. When the hormones were right, I went in the next morning for insemination. After the third cycle with no luck, Dr. Benidiva did a dye procedure and learned that one of my tubes was blocked. Fine, but I wish I had known that earlier so we could better time my cycles. The cycle after the dye procedure was a bust, I ovulated on the side that was blocked. The next month we tried a fourth time and this time we also did daily blood work and ultrasounds to more precisely time my ovulation…and it worked!!
How competent was Claudio Benadiva at LGBTQ+ care?
Since I was doing iui, my lesbian status didn’t really routinely come up. But at the clinic my partner was always welcomed and we were treated as any other couple, which was nice.
Describe your experience with your nurse at Center for Advanced Reproductive Services (First Fertility Network Clinic). (Assigned nurse: Leah S)
Leah was the best!! She was always willing to answer any questions I had and I always got a return phone call when I left a message. She was kind and compassionate when things didn’t go as planned and she celebrated with us when they did! I can’t say enough good things about her! I also appreciated that if she was ever off work for a day, someone was covering her phone and I never felt I was left hanging out to dry.
Describe your experience with Center for Advanced Reproductive Services (First Fertility Network Clinic).
Overall they were fine. The atmosphere was warm, and I rarely ever felt like just a number (only on weekends when the usually staff wasn’t there). The front desk staff was professional and treated me with kindness, and the check-in process was efficient.
How competent was Center for Advanced Reproductive Services (First Fertility Network Clinic) at LGBTQ+ care?
They were. It didn’t ever catch anyone off guard (that I saw) that I was in a lesbian relationship, my partner was always warmly welcomed, and even when I visited singly no one ever forgot that I was a lesbian (or they didn’t ask me about my husband).
Describe your experience using 3rd party reproduction (donor eggs, donor sperm, or gestational carrier) at Center for Advanced Reproductive Services (First Fertility Network Clinic).
Mostly fine, although they do truly leave it up to the patient to call and let them know a shipment of donor sperm is on the way. If you don’t, you’ll get a frustrated voicemail from the donor sperm coordinator about how you’ve inconvenienced her. They let you know up front it is potent responsibility, you just can never forget. The process of buying the sperm and sending it was seamless, and there was never a time I worried it wouldn’t arrive or be handled appropriately.

he [Dr. Schmidt] is so kind and thoughtful and caring. He takes as much time as you need to make you feel heard, supported and educated on your treatment options....He did not give me false hope, didn't make undue promises or say anything fake, but he did give me enough hope that they would be able to find a way to get me pregnant...one round of IVF using antagonist protocol, ER and fresh transfer...
They [Center for Advanced Reproductive Services] are a big "shop" and they do see tons of patients but that works in your favor because they are open all the time and can be pretty flexible. I've read of other clinics putting patients on BC so that they can time cycles starting with Drs. schedule/availability. This is NOT the case at CARS given how much production they are used to...
How was your experience with David Schmidt at Center for Advanced Reproductive Services (First Fertility Network Clinic)?
Dr. Schmidt really is the best doctor. He is kind, compassionate, communicative and a good listener. He mentioned to me once that he was a glass-half-full kind of Dr. and that some of the other Drs. were different - this I noticed and completely appreciated. He did not give me false hope, didn't make undue promises or say anything fake, but he did give me enough hope that they would be able to find a way to get me pregnant. I really trusted Dr. Schmidt, not just to make a good treatment plan but also to perform any necessary surgeries. I had a hysteroscopy and the ER & transfer with Dr. Schmidt, the hysteroscopy and ER being under anesthesia and the former being at UConn, but I felt so safe in his hands. I could go on and on about how much we loved Dr. Schmidt and I would 100/10 recommend him as the best Dr. at CARS (although to be fair, I'm sure all their docs are great).
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of David Schmidt at Center for Advanced Reproductive Services (First Fertility Network Clinic)?
Dr. Schmidt does talk a fair bit - but if you are paying close attention he usually answers all your questions before you ask them. However, a good practice for any Dr. is to come with your questions prepared and don't be afraid to politely interrupt to ask/confirm/clarify.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with David Schmidt at Center for Advanced Reproductive Services (First Fertility Network Clinic)?
Dr. Schmidt is the absolute best - he is so kind and thoughtful and caring. He takes as much time as you need to make you feel heard, supported and educated on your treatment options.
Describe the protocols David Schmidt used in your cycles at Center for Advanced Reproductive Services (First Fertility Network Clinic) and their degree of success.
I went into the Center not wanting to jump in IVF and Dr. Schmidt was very receptive. First, we did testing (HSG, bloods, TV ultrasound, etc) and a polypectomy/hysteroscopy. We then did 3 rounds of IUI with letrozole 2.5mg by this time I was ready to move to IVF so we did one round of IVF using antagonist protocol, ER and fresh transfer. It was sucessful.
Describe your experience with your nurse at Center for Advanced Reproductive Services (First Fertility Network Clinic). (Assigned nurse: Jenny is the clinical nurse, Peggy is the IVF nurse)
Both Jenny and Peggy were amazing! Jenny, the clinical nurse for IUI, was so very compassionate and even though she wasn't my active nurse when I got pregnant via IVF when she found out I was pregnant she came (into the u/s room) to tell me how happy she was for me. She was also clear, organized, detailed and helpful. Peggy, the IVF nurse, was also compassionate kind, organized and detailed although she was a little more brusque personality-wise (but to be clear, this did not impact her ability to be kind and compassionate!). All of the other nurses and techs (u/s techs, blood draw techs, etc) were great for the most part! There were a few blood draw techs who didn't do a great job and the draws were really painful, but most techs were great (as well as kind and compassionate).
Describe your experience with Center for Advanced Reproductive Services (First Fertility Network Clinic).
I went into working with CARS a bit afraid it would be an IVF mill, but I did not find that to be the case in the end. They are a big "shop" and they do see tons of patients but that works in your favor because they are open all the time and can be pretty flexible. I've read of other clinics putting patients on BC so that they can time cycles starting with Drs. schedule/availability. This is NOT the case at CARS given how much production they are used to. I think, depending on your doc, it's possible to get lost and feel like you aren't getting as much personal attention as you want, but I didn't feel this at all. Set your expectations that you won't talk to your Dr. regularly, but you can contact your nurse during regular business hours and they either will have your answer or will check with the Dr. and get back to you. There are also on-call nurses/Drs. for the weekends but I never needed to contact anyone after hours.
Describe the costs associated with your care under David Schmidt at Center for Advanced Reproductive Services (First Fertility Network Clinic).
They have a great pre-paid/non-insurance pricing. I had insurance that covered our IVF cycle completly. IUIs we paid out of pocket and were $699 for our income range. IVF would have been $12k out of pocket, for our income range, not including meds.
Describe David Schmidt's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Center for Advanced Reproductive Services (First Fertility Network Clinic).
Dr. Schmidt was very clear that they really work hard to avoid multiples. He told me that they would not transfer more than 1 embryo into someone under 35. I do not know what they would allow if I was over 35 or if I had had a failed transfer.

Dr benadiva was very kind, knowledgeable & has amazing bedside manners. I felt very relaxed & comfortable during my visits with him. He takes his time to explain everything in detail. He made sure all my questions were answered to me in easy language, he took time to explain medical terminology that was applied to my case. Overall I couldn’t have asked for a better dr to help us through this journey.
23 eggs were collected, all 23 matured, out of that 17 fertilized. 8 day 5 blasts were frozen and 6 day 6 blasts were frozen...All the [Center for Advanced Reproductive Services] nurses I saw there were very humble and compassionate. Several nurses called me the day before retrieval to check up on how I was doing since I had mild ohss...The whole team at the center works together to help you through the painful process of infertility. I was super anxious on my first consultation but I was made so comfortable and made sure that we would find out what’s wrong with me and will do best to treat it. I was told I’m not broken and that infertility isn’t my fault

Describe the protocols Claudio Benadiva used in your cycles at Center for Advanced Reproductive Services (First Fertility Network Clinic) and their degree of success.
I started stimulation medicine gonal f at 150 dose and was reacting to it very well, after my blood test and ultrasound my dose was decreased to a 112. I used meds for 9-10 days I believe I’m not completely sure. I started ganirelix on 4th day of stimulation meds to prevent me from ovulating early. It also helped with my ohss symptoms to get better. I reacted to meds very well & total of 23 eggs were collected, all 23 matured, out of that 17 fertilized. 8 day 5 blasts were frozen and 6 day 6 blasts were frozen. Resulting in total of 14 blastocysts. We transferred one embryo as in a frozen cycle and now I’m pregnant at 9 weeks with that embryo.
Describe your experience with your nurse at Center for Advanced Reproductive Services (First Fertility Network Clinic). (Assigned nurse: Helen )
Helen was very kind and a good listener. I would call her almost every day with stupid questions but she always took the time out to call me back and put my mind to ease and answer all my questions. All the nurses I saw there were very humble and compassionate. Several nurses called me the day before retrieval to check up on how I was doing since I had mild ohss. They went above and beyond to help me. I’m very grateful for the nurses at the center.
Describe your experience with Center for Advanced Reproductive Services (First Fertility Network Clinic).
The whole team at the center works together to help you through the painful process of infertility. I was super anxious on my first consultation but I was made so comfortable and made sure that we would find out what’s wrong with me and will do best to treat it. I was told I’m not broken and that infertility isn’t my fault. I was surely overweight I knew that already but never was told at the center to just loose weight. I was diagnosed with annovulation by my obgyn, so we first started with ovulation induction oral medications and went from there. What I would suggest to new patients at the center is to make sure u have all the questions ready that u want to ask your dr, and be patient and trust your team!
Describe the costs associated with your care under Claudio Benadiva at Center for Advanced Reproductive Services (First Fertility Network Clinic).
We had insurance that would cover infertility so overall it wasn’t too expensive for us to afford this cycle.

My first FET was a single embryo transfer. My second FET was a double. Dr. Benadiva explained the risks associated with multiples before we decided to transfer 2...I always knew exactly what my treatment plan was and why we chose that plan. He explained procedures and his expectations of the outcome...He is also caring and considerate of my situation..
Clinic is organized and punctual. I rarely waited more than a few minutes and the financial advisor put in a lot of time completing my prior authorizations. I did have discretion with a bill, but it was corrected immediately...[Center for Advanced Reproductive Services nurses] always called me back promptly and communicated all changes to my plan within a reasonable amount of time
How was your experience with Claudio Benadiva at Center for Advanced Reproductive Services (First Fertility Network Clinic)?
Dr. Benadiva is concise and caring. I always knew exactly what my treatment plan was and why we chose that plan. He explained procedures and his expectations of the outcome. For example, I was made aware of the possibility of OHSS after egg retrieval, so when I had to do a freeze all, I understood exactly why I could not transfer a fresh embryo immediately. He is also caring and considerate of my situation. After my first failed FET, I was wanting to squeeze in one more transfer cycle before the end of the year (for financial reasons). Dr. Benadiva came up with a plan to get the transfer in when I wanted. This plan I conceived and I'm currently 7 weeks pregnant.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Claudio Benadiva at Center for Advanced Reproductive Services (First Fertility Network Clinic)?
Ask questions. He is always willing to take the time to explain everything. Know you plan and you will be more confident in your success.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Claudio Benadiva at Center for Advanced Reproductive Services (First Fertility Network Clinic)?
Dr. Benadiva knew my name and was familiar with my chart at every appointment. All staffed addressed me by my name and asked how I was doing.
Describe the protocols Claudio Benadiva used in your cycles at Center for Advanced Reproductive Services (First Fertility Network Clinic) and their degree of success.
We tried letrozole for a few months with IUI's and timed intercourse. I always ovulated, but we were still having trouble conceiving. Because of Covid-19, I was unable to move to IVF immediately. I had to wait a few months, but I was able to get in as soon as the clinic opened back up to new cycling patients. During the waiting period, Dr. Benadiva allowed me to take the letrozole with timed intercourse. This resulted in one CP. My egg retrival was successful and I was able to freeze 8 5-day blastocysts. My first FET was a medicated cycle that resulted in a CP. My second FET was a natural cycle with Letrozole and I am currently 7 weeks pregnant.
Describe your experience with your nurse at Center for Advanced Reproductive Services (First Fertility Network Clinic). (Assigned nurse: Helen and Debbie)
Helen and Debbie always called me back promptly and communicated all changes to my plan within a reasonable amount of time. They were also both compassionate when I experienced both my CP's.

Describe the costs associated with your care under Claudio Benadiva at Center for Advanced Reproductive Services (First Fertility Network Clinic).
I have an insurance provider that covers infertility treatment. All costs were within a reasonable range. Specifically, ultrasounds were $100, the egg retrieval was around $15000, each transfer was around $4000 and cryopreservation was $1000 for one year of freezing.
Describe Claudio Benadiva's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Center for Advanced Reproductive Services (First Fertility Network Clinic).

Dr. Nulsen is highly personable- very friendly, while still being candid. He genuinely cares about his patients...He had excellent communication, and was very good about finding a path that helped us achieve the family we wanted. He always took our concerns seriously, and did everything he could to put us at ease. We felt very supported and like we were in great hands
Erin and all of the nurses at the Center [Center for Advanced Reproductive Services UCONN] are amazing- from communicating results to literally holding your hand because you’re scared of your upcoming retrieval or during transfer. It was so nice to have everyone just a phone call away if I needed Anything...It’s a big clinic, so you will see lots of people. They’re all wonderful, and you end up benefiting from lots of expertise

Describe the protocols John Nulsen (retired) used in your cycles at Center for Advanced Reproductive Services (First Fertility Network Clinic) and their degree of success.
We did clinical trials for both IVF cycles, so things looked a little bit different. Our most recent IVF cycle involved downregulation with Lupron, followed by stims with Minopur, followed by a fresh transfer supported by Endometrin. It took about two months because of the time for downregulation.

It’s a big clinic, so you will see lots of people. They’re all wonderful, and you end up benefiting from lots of expertise. A few times a month, all the doctors, embryologist said, etc, get together to talk over IVF cycles that need improvement and provide one another feedback. They really are committed to getting successful outcomes for their patients.

For the clinical trial, everything was covered.
Describe John Nulsen (retired)'s approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Center for Advanced Reproductive Services (First Fertility Network Clinic).
Dr. Nulsen (and I think all the doctors at CARS) believe in single embryo transfer only for our age group if the embryos are a good quality . Their justification is very good- statistically outcomes are way better for a single embryo.

Dr. B[enadiva] is quieter and comes off more serious and not as conversational. As you get to know him and spend time with him that changes a bit. His quieter nature is appreciated sometimes as I know his priority is the end result and taking care of his patients. I luckily got pregnant on the first try that cycle/pregnancy. IVF cycle was the next option because I had no issues carrying my first child once pregnant.

He is not as conversational but conversation is productive when talking about treatment and we find common topics to talk about. He is a very nice person.

My primary nurse was wonderful, personable and great to talk to. She answered all of my questions as they came up. I had some difficulty in communicating - I think her interpretation of the question and my explanation but always worked out. The nursing staff is all wonderful. I had a mixup with my treatment plan at the very beginning, I advise all patients to understand their treatment and ask questions to make sure you understand. The nurse I saw on the first day of my treatment was not my primary nurse and there are different treatment plans followed for different reasons.

I went through insurance. IUI process was not very expensive. IVF is very expensive due to medications and the procedure to retrieve eggs as well as transfer. The standard checkups, ultrasounds, etc. are not very expensive.

Describe the specific things that went wrong at Center for Advanced Reproductive Services (First Fertility Network Clinic).
There was a mixup at the beginning of my IVF treatment. I did not see my primary nurse and the nurse I met with provided me with a different treatment plan, I was not prepared and that should have alerted me to question her instruction. My primary nurse (and the nurse I met with) both called within 30 minutes of leaving the office to provide the correct information as had previously been reviewed. I advise patients to understand their treatment - even though it can be A LOT - and ask questions if they do not believe it lines up. It is your body, your money, and your baby you are trying to have!

I loved our experience with Dr.Engmann. He is very knowledgable and helpful when you ask questions and when coming up with a course of treatment. He exhausted all possibilities of why we were infertile and was very optimistic when I was losing hope. He was kind when he needed to be, direct when he needed to be and even though there were long periods where I only saw nurses and not him, I always felt like he was in control and monitoring everting. He had a good sense of humor and made me feel comfortable and confident in him.

Describe the protocols Lawrence Engmann used in your cycles at Center for Advanced Reproductive Services (First Fertility Network Clinic) and their degree of success.
I had a miscarriage after trying for 2 years to get pregnant, then tried to get pregnant for a year after that before going to Dr.Engmann. He had me go for a hysterosalpingogram, tested my blood for everything, std tests for both my husband and I, semen analysis for my husband, looked at my uterus and diagnosed me with unexplained infertility. He recommended 3 rounds of IUI with 50 mg clomid days 3-7. The first round I monitored my ovulation with kits at home, the other 2 times I went for bloodwork everyday day 10 until surge and I did an hcg trigger shot for the 3rd one. None of them worked. He recommended IVF I had a saline ultrasound to check my uterus, many blood tests, ultra sounds, took hormone injections and after one cycle became pregnant. They performed ICSI and assisted hatching on the embryo that was transferred. 9 days after transfer I had a positive pregnancy test and continued progesterone injections until my second ultrasound at 8 weeks and then was transferred back to my obgyn.

Dr. Diluigi was very nice and professional. The way she spoke was clear and she explained things well. I didn't see her very often as schedule is in shifts but when i did see her she was nice and supportive...First was testing we did blood work, HSG, semen analysis. Diagnosed unexplained infertility. Started with 3 IUIs with fresh sperm. I took letrozole for a few days early in the cycle...[she] wanted to use letrozole because it was less side effects than clomid
[Center for Advanced Reproductive Services monitoring appointments] There was typically quite a few women, waits were long but not excruciating. I would usually try to be one of the first ones there so im not sure how later people would feel. It was somewhat confusing the list to sign up for, ring a bell, upstairs or downstairs when i had to go to west Hartford.. but you figure it out...

What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Andrea DiLuigi at Center for Advanced Reproductive Services (First Fertility Network Clinic)?
Do your research and advocate for your best interests. Not necessarily because of Dr. Diluigi, all doctors. No one knows your body and your needs like you do. Dr.s can only work off the most accurate info so its important to communicate with them, and not be a passive recipient of care.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Andrea DiLuigi at Center for Advanced Reproductive Services (First Fertility Network Clinic)?
Dr. Diluigi wasn't around much, but when i did see her she didn't act like she had no clue who i was. Supporting staff i saw regularly were courtesy and knew me by name.
Describe the protocols Andrea DiLuigi used in your cycles at Center for Advanced Reproductive Services (First Fertility Network Clinic) and their degree of success.
I documented my treatments with a blog stafford-homestead.com First was testing we did blood work, HSG, semen analysis. Diagnosed unexplained infertility. Started with 3 IUIs with fresh sperm. I took letrozole for a few days early in the cycle. I never produced more than 1 follicle. Dr. Diluigi wanted to use letrozole because it was less side effects than clomid. All 3 were BFN. Moved on to IVF. I had a saline ultrasound and then a procedure where they went in with a camera and removed a polyp. Then meds for egg retrevial. I was slow to respond and then they upped the dose and hyper-responded. Dr. Diluigi decided we needed to freeze all because my hormones were not condusive to pregnancy. I had to wait another month for transfer. I chose to do no meds and waited for spontaneous ovulation and was monitored by blood and ultrasound. Ended up with a BFP. At 6.5 w. Ultrasound there was no HB. Went back a few days later and showed slow HB and irregular yolk sac. Dr. Diluigi said it wasnt a viable pregnancy. She was caring and clear about her recommendations to proceed. I chose to take cytotec to induce the miscarriage, rather than D&C or wait for it to naturally shed. After that had weekly blood tests until HCG went to 0. Then waited for ovulation again and the. Started another unmedicated cycle. That one ended in a single live birth. Hes 8 mo old now and we plan on returning in a year for another transfer!

I think its wisest for my age to do an Eset and is prudent in most all cases besides special circumstances which people should try multiple embryos

Dr.Engmann is very good in handling his patients , he calls in and elaborates on what didn't go well. He also clearly explains on how ultrasound looks on the monitoring appointments. Since I had failed cycles he spent time in going through the reports and he himself called to share the results...He never gets tired of the questions and answers patiently...
She [nurse at Center for Advanced Reproductive Services] is good but doesn’t spend much time when in calls , she has so much going on but replies promptly in the emails sometimes not clear though...highly organized and the wait times are also less . Retrieval procedure room is also very much maintained and all the nurses there take good care of the patient. They are prompt. Environment is also good. Lab facilities also termed to be as high quality ones.
How was your experience with Lawrence Engmann at Center for Advanced Reproductive Services (First Fertility Network Clinic)?
He is very good in handling his patients and provides individual attention and explains things and addresses all the questions. He tries to go through the entire process in detail . But unfortunately we were not able to find why my eggs are not making to embryos though I was able to conceive 5 times and ended up in miscarriages. His diagnosis is perfect but May be in my case it was not very clear with the issue since two cycles had two different results but he tries to make changes in the protocols and explains the same.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Lawrence Engmann at Center for Advanced Reproductive Services (First Fertility Network Clinic)?
We should be ready to ask more questions possible only when we will get to know the complete understanding of the process . He never gets tired of the questions and answers patiently.

1. Antagonist protocol Gonal+ menopur + Ganirelix + Lupron for triggering - resulted in 9 eggs out of which 7 fertilized but none made to blast 2 .Lupron priming protocol Omnitrope + prime with Lupron before CD1 - add Gonal + menopur + reduced dose of Lupron + hcg for trigger - longer stims than first cycle - resulted in 11 eggs out of which only 2 fertilized, he mentioned very poor quality eggs in this cycle .was suggesting priming to give more synchronized growth of follicles but that did not work. We are planning to go with one more cycle with a estrogen priming instead of Lupron.

Dr. Engmann is a very knowledgeable doctor...was compassionate about my care, and when I asked for my medical records to review test results and read his notes about us it brought tears to my eyes to see how much he cared about our individual care.
Every member of the clinics staff [at Center for Advanced Reproductive Services] went out of their way to remember my name and things about me. I never felt like a number...The office staff were so friendly and I always found them to be very responsive to my phonecalls.
How was your experience with Lawrence Engmann at Center for Advanced Reproductive Services (First Fertility Network Clinic)?
Dr. Engmann is a very knowledgeable doctor. When we first went to meet him we were nervous, and he helped us to understand more about our situation which included finding out about some thyroid issues. I would always recommend going in with questions as Dr. Engmann wants to help as much as possible but it was always more helpful when I had questions. Dr. Engmann was compassionate about my care, and when I asked for my medical records to review test results and read his notes about us it brought tears to my eyes to see how much he cared about our individual care.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Lawrence Engmann at Center for Advanced Reproductive Services (First Fertility Network Clinic)?
Always bring questions you have about your specific criteria. If you have a suggestion, or you have read about something and ask if you can try a certain thing, he is very open to changing and meeting your needs. I read so much literature and listened to many podcasts about fertility so I knew which types of questions and processes to ask about.

Describe the protocols Lawrence Engmann used in your cycles at Center for Advanced Reproductive Services (First Fertility Network Clinic) and their degree of success.
We first visited Dr. Engmann after having a late first-trimester loss, and I found that I was ovulating very late in my cycle with a short luteal phase. The first round of testing revealed that I had sub-clinical hypothyroidism and low vitamin D. For protocols moving forward I wad prescribed thyroid medication, vitamin D and we were also told to try progesterone gel after ovulation as I was found to have a luteal phase defect. We did conceive again with timed intercourse and these protocols, but unfortunately had a checmical pregnancy at 5 weeks. After this we continued the same protocol for 6 months and were unable to conceive. At this time due to my age we decided to pursue IVF, unfortunately my insuance denied this, and so we moved forward with a non-medicated round of IUI. We chose unmedicated IUI since I ovulated every month and had previously conceieved. We were excited to find out that our first round of IUI had worked.
Describe your experience with your nurse at Center for Advanced Reproductive Services (First Fertility Network Clinic). (Assigned nurse: Mary-Kate )
Mary-Kate was such an excellent nurse. Whenever I had a question day or night I would write her an email, or leave a voicemail depending on the level of importance and I would always hear back from her within 8-12 hours. I am still in communication with her even after my discharge.
Describe your experience with Center for Advanced Reproductive Services (First Fertility Network Clinic).
I really liked my clinic, even though it is located in Hartford Center, it was very easy to get in and out of during the morning early hours. The bloodwork hours usually begin at 7:00 am so I would usually go in on my way into work. I was always seen for bloodwork within 20 minutes. I also sometimes had to go to the Farmington location and found both to be very convenient. The office staff were so friendly and I always found them to be very responsive to my phonecalls.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Lawrence Engmann at Center for Advanced Reproductive Services (First Fertility Network Clinic).
I only had to pay co-pays, other than that my health insurance paid for everything else including my IUI.

If you're using him for egg freezing, be very clear with him how many rounds you are planning/can afford to do. ... I found Dr. Engmann to be a bit passive. I needed someone to guide me through and ensure I was getting the best possible outcome. I felt like I was just enrolled and and going through the motions. I didn't respond as quickly as I thought I would to the treatment and aside from adding days on to the cycle there wasn't much other adjustment made. I felt it was assumed I would do a second round. I didn't feel as though he was invested in my outcome.
... for straight egg-freezing I don't think you're treated with the same level of care/compassion since your time with the clinic [Uconn Health] is short. All of the training videos they make you watch are for IVF so nothing is tailored to just the women freezing their eggs. ... If you are doing elective egg freezing you have to pay for everything up front yourself. The wait times in the morning could be very long, especially if you're doing a round before the holidays.

I felt as though egg freezing patients were not treated the same as other patients trying to conceive. As a single female in her late 30s, deciding to freeze my eggs was a big deal to me. I felt like I didn't know what was going on at the beginning of the process and I was disappointed at the outcome. The doctors assume you will do multiple rounds but who at $12K a cycle who has money for that? I wanted the best possible result at cycle 1.

Describe your experience with Center for Advanced Reproductive Services (First Fertility Network Clinic).
They are known to be one of the best in the state. One area I didn't find fair was that they only offer payment plans to patients who already are covered by insurance (couples). If you are doing elective egg freezing you have to pay for everything up front yourself. The wait times in the morning could be very long, especially if you're doing a round before the holidays. It's up to you to manage your medications and amounts if your cycle extends and the only injection/medication mixing training they give you is a series of videos to watch. People seem to love them for fertility issues but for straight egg-freezing I don't think you're treated with the same level of care/compassion since your time with the clinic is short. All of the training videos they make you watch are for IVF so nothing is tailored to just the women freezing their eggs.

When I was given my AMH levels the nurse called to say everything looked great and that I was good to go but the doctor wanted to give me my official results. The doctor called and told me my levels were below average. I was very upset with the miscommunication. In speaking with my nurse later about it she stated even though I was slightly below average my numbers were still great for the cycle.

He [Dr. Lawrence Engmann] took the time to review my medical record transferred from my Gynecologist. He differed in opinion with my Gynecologist and proceeded to request his own examination. He was eager and very proactive in finding out my true medical condition. He also took into account my partners infertility issues. He provided recommendations as well for my boyfriend to follow up with with his own primary care doctor.
Caring, compassionate and welcoming was exactly how I felt in the waiting room [at Center for Advanced Reproductive Services]. The financial counselor provided a brief overview but we would have liked for her to provide us with other information or grant options out there verdes just providing us a pamphlet on how to secure a loan to pay for IVF treatments...She [nurse] was outstanding and prompt returning my calls when I had added questions.

During each cycle, Dr. Engmann radiated empathy and compassion when we would get negative results. During the care after the chemical pregnancy/miscarriage, he was very comforting and spent extra time talking my husband and I through our grief and options moving forward.... Dr. Engmann has been an excellent communicator and explained everything in a way that was easy to understand. He has been patient with our questions and nervousness as related to the cost of treatment.
The financial advisors [Ctr for Advanced Repro Med] don’t necessarily see your records prior to talking to you. This can be frustrating when you’re grieving a negative result or trying to figure out how to move forward under incredible stress and THEN getting a call about balance owed or insurance approval processes.... My initial nurse, Mary kate, ended up going on maternity leave shortly after we began treatment. I’ve mostly worked with Peggy

Describe the protocols Lawrence Engmann used in your cycles at Center for Advanced Reproductive Services (First Fertility Network Clinic) and their degree of success.
We first did (I believe) 3 cycles of provera to induce my period and have timed intercourse. When this didn’t result in pregnancy, we moved onto 2 unsuccessful IUI cycles with 5 mg of letrozole to induce ovulation. Our third IUI cycle, I was prescribed 7.5 mg of letrozole and had a positive pregnancy test (urine & blood confirmed). At almost 6 weeks, we found out that I was miscarrying — a chemical pregnancy. After a lot of bloodwork and an endometrial biopsy and several ultrasounds, we determined it was not an ectopic pregnancy and I would not need a D&C. We’re currently not pursuing another IUI or beginning IVF as our budget will not allow for that for quite awhile. We’re going to attempt a cycle (or several) with provera and letrozole and timed intercourse while we lay down our balance.
Describe your experience with your nurse at Center for Advanced Reproductive Services (First Fertility Network Clinic). (Assigned nurse: Mary Kate & Peggy)
My initial nurse, Mary kate, ended up going on maternity leave shortly after we began treatment. I’ve mostly worked with Peggy and I absolutely adore her. Both women are very clear in their communication and answer all of my questions and provide an incredible amount of emotional support. There have been a couple of other nurses (whom I don’t know and could not name based on one interaction) who have called to tell me of a negative result with a very chipper and misleading tone. I never had this problem with Mary Kate or Peggy and am so grateful for my interactions with them.

We have pretty good insurance, but have still had pretty sizable costs over the last 10 months. It’s always helpful after we meet our deductible. We’ve spent north of $5000 on our treatment thus far.

Doctor Grow is kind and clearly knowledgeable about his field. At our early visits he took the time to listen to me and my husband. He provided me with additional information when requested and was honest (but gentle) about expectations. ... We started with screening for both me and partner which included full blood work (for both), sperm analysis, and genetic screening. Once these results were in, we met to discuss and create our stim protocol. Dr. Grow used SQ injections of menopur, ganirelex, and gonal-f to stimulate my ovaries.
Strengths include cutting-edge technology, informative staff, and integrative approaches to fertility. The major weakness of this clinic [Ctr for Adv Repro Svcs] is their finance team. I never felt like I could get a straight answer from our finance coordinator . ... The monitoring appointments were a well-oiled machine. Patients coming in for bloodwork only were seen downstairs in the lab. When I needed both an ultrasound and bloodwork both were done upstairs. I appreciate that no matter what I was having done, it was done in one location.

Once these results were in, we met to discuss and create our stim protocol. Dr. Grow used SQ injections of menopur, ganirelex, and gonal-f to stimulate my ovaries. My trigger shot was done via SQ hcg. My eggs were then retrieved and fertilized via ICSI due to my husband's sperm motility. Five day blastocysts were transferred and received assisted hatching. I was started on crinone before and after transfer. I transferred two blastocycsts and got a positive pregnancy test. My hcg levels continued to rise, as evidenced by blood work, but my blood work one and a half weeks after indicated a chemical pregnancy. All medications other than vitamins have been stopped at this time. I will start my frozen transfer at my next period and will also begin crinone at that time.

I went in for more bloodwork 72 hours after getting a positive pregnancy test. The clinic did not call me with results as promised and I had to call the next day to speak to my nurse directly. This was not the fault of my direct team as it was a weekend, but it caused additional stress at an already difficult time. Again, this was due to a lack of communication but is in no way the fault of my direct team (Dr. Grow).

Dr. Engmann is not only an incredibly compassionate doctor, but also an incredibly patient (with all my questions), kind (you could tell he always wanted the best outcome), and knowledgable of every cycle and situation we were in. If there was an issue with treatment plan, or medications he reacted so quickly. Dr. Engmann calmed my nerves and relieved my anxiety during appointments. I will never forget when we were prepping for our transfer, he came in to speak to my husband and I and told us the embryo was "perfect".
The clinic (UCONN Medical0 was wonderful; from the front desk staff, the phlebotomists, nurses, financial team, doctors....everyone was just wonderful, compassionate and kept information confidential. There was one doctor I had a terrible experience with, I informed my doctor of the situation and I never saw that one doctor again- thankful for my doctor who fully understood this particular situation.... Morning appointments depended on the number of patients

If there was an issue with treatment plan, or medications he reacted so quickly. Dr. Engmann calmed my nerves and relieved my anxiety during appointments. I will never forget when we were prepping for our transfer, he came in to speak to my husband and I and told us the embryo was "perfect". I cried and he put his hand on my shoulder to reassure me this was going to be a good day. During the transfer he and the nurse walked me through every step of the way and showed me on the screen where the embryo was placed. When we had our viability scan he could tell we were extremely nervous, and he immediately went right into the ultrasound- no small talk...just straight to the point. We we "graduated" from the clinic I cried happy tears for the first time in his treatment room and I'm forever grateful for Dr. Engmann and his compassion.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Lawrence Engmann at Center for Advanced Reproductive Services (First Fertility Network Clinic)?
Trust him. No matter what you "google" or read on your Facebook forum, he knows what he's doing and he has your best interest in mind.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Lawrence Engmann at Center for Advanced Reproductive Services (First Fertility Network Clinic)?
Dr. Engman was wonderful, as well as his entire staff. Phone calls were returned so quickly- regardless of how trivial my questions may have been at times. He always knew the details of my particular cycle when he walked into the treatment room. All procedures, updates, etc. were explained in full and expectations were set.
Describe your experience with your nurse at Center for Advanced Reproductive Services (First Fertility Network Clinic). (Assigned nurse: Darlene (IUI) & Amanda (IVF))
Darlene, even though she's no long with the clinic, was such a constant during our treatments. She walked us through every procedure, every medication. She educated and answered questions, she never treated me like my questions were silly. Amanda was such a change in attitude that my husband and I needed. After our failed medicated cycles and failed IUI moving onto IVF was a really hard transition for us. I thought of IVF as the "LAST CHANCE" and Amanda was so patient during our initial consultation and explained that this was the next best step. She walked us through all the paperwork explaining decisions we needed to make. Leading up to and after all the IVF procedures she was irreplaceable- checking in on me, making sure I was up to date with all information and returned my calls so quickly. She knew I was concerned about my TSH levels and was sure to test them and adjust my medications appropriately. When we were testing for Beta levels- I could tell in her voice that she was genuinely happy for us. When we graduated from the clinic she sought us out to say goodbye and it just made my heart so happy.
Describe your experience with Center for Advanced Reproductive Services (First Fertility Network Clinic).
The clinic was wonderful; from the front desk staff, the phlebotomists, nurses, financial team, doctors....everyone was just wonderful, compassionate and kept information confidential. There was one doctor I had a terrible experience with, I informed my doctor of the situation and I never saw that one doctor again- thankful for my doctor who fully understood this particular situation.
Describe your experience with your monitoring appointments at Center for Advanced Reproductive Services (First Fertility Network Clinic).
Morning appointments depended on the number of patients who were also there for monitoring. It was really nice to see most of the same faces and know that you weren't alone. The monitoring procedures themselves were relatively quick and painless. I liked going in the morning because I didnt have to take more time out of work.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Lawrence Engmann at Center for Advanced Reproductive Services (First Fertility Network Clinic).
We were lucky to have fantastic insurance, our costs were mostly copays. Totaling somewhere in the ball park of $3,000.00
Describe Lawrence Engmann's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Center for Advanced Reproductive Services (First Fertility Network Clinic).
We trusted Dr. Engmann's decision as to if he'd transfer a single or multiple embryos. Thankfully, we had a "perfect" embryo and only had to transfer one.

Dr. Engmann always prefers to see his patients for scans, transfers, etc. I think he truly cares about his patients. I think he maybe didn't always think outside the box for other things we could try (could have been restricted due to the clinic) such as immune testing or testing for endometriosis. I went unexplained for 2 years without a diagnosis and we just keep trying IVF and kept failing. I feel like we should have spent more time at the very beginning trying to figure out root cause.
We had a lot of issues with the financial department [UCONN Medical]. We had a financial rep tell us that there was "no way" we had a $20,000 lifetime cap...we thought we had insurance coverage and were so excited! She was wrong....They have a number of qualified physicians there and a strong lab.... They follow national guidelines though so they will not try any of the new outside of the box treatments... Sometimes it is very busy there. They say they start blood draws at 7:15 but I have been there and they often don't start until 7:30

What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Lawrence Engmann at Center for Advanced Reproductive Services (First Fertility Network Clinic)?
Sometimes he can be a bit clinical but he is very factual.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Lawrence Engmann at Center for Advanced Reproductive Services (First Fertility Network Clinic)?
I did feel like they truly cared about me. I just felt like they kept trying to do IVF as a solution rather than look for root cause for my problems.
Describe the protocols Lawrence Engmann used in your cycles at Center for Advanced Reproductive Services (First Fertility Network Clinic) and their degree of success.
My 2nd retrieval was an antagonist protocol with menopur and gonal f. I cannot remember what the first one was (just gonal F). I also used HGH in my 2nd retrieval. I had a better outcome in that I had more PGS normal embryos that cycle.
Describe your experience with your nurse at Center for Advanced Reproductive Services (First Fertility Network Clinic). (Assigned nurse: Amanda Cislak)
Amanda was fabulous. She is responsive on the phone and also replies to emails which can sometimes be more convenient for the patient if we are at work, etc. She's compassionate... she has cried with me and laughed with me. I truly felt connected to her and that she cared about me as a patient and person.
Describe your experience with Center for Advanced Reproductive Services (First Fertility Network Clinic).
They have a number of qualified physicians there and a strong lab. They have some of the highest success rates in the state and multiple locations so you can go to wherever is most convenient to you. They follow national guidelines though so they will not try any of the new outside of the box treatments... such as immune treatments, etc. They tend to do similar things... hysteroscopy, ERA testing, PGS testing, etc. that they rely on as next steps when IVF has failed. However I think there is more testing that can be done that I had to ask for (Sperm DNA fragmentation, MRI for adenomyosis, immune testing/medications, EFT testing, etc.). I did end up having to go to an immune specialist to get further answers to try something different after 5 failed cycles and 3 miscarriages (1 of which was a PGS tested embryo).
Describe your experience with your monitoring appointments at Center for Advanced Reproductive Services (First Fertility Network Clinic).
Sometimes it is very busy there. They say they start blood draws at 7:15 but I have been there and they often don't start until 7:30... There is always a long wait but that is just due to the volume of patients and only 1 person who does blood draws.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Lawrence Engmann at Center for Advanced Reproductive Services (First Fertility Network Clinic).
We had $20,000 of insurance money which lasted us about 1 year (3 IUIs, 1 retrieval with fresh transfer, and 1 FET). After that we were self pay and opted to do a financial share program which cost us $20,000 for 6 cycles (3 fresh and 3 FET). However costs for anesthesia, cryo, PGS, etc. were not included in that so that was an additional cost.
Describe Lawrence Engmann's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Center for Advanced Reproductive Services (First Fertility Network Clinic).
He definitely prefers eSET. He feels strongly against multiples. He advised us to transfer 1 many times.
What specific things went wrong at Center for Advanced Reproductive Services (First Fertility Network Clinic)?
  • Failed to call in prescriptions to pharmacy
  • Failed to call with results
  • Failed to send your chart to another clinic
  • Provided conflicting information
Describe the specific things that went wrong at Center for Advanced Reproductive Services (First Fertility Network Clinic).
We had a lot of issues with the financial department. We had a financial rep tell us that there was "no way" we had a $20,000 lifetime cap... that she had never heard of that before (even though I already knew this was the case). And she was supposed to call me back that same day with the information but I had to follow up a week later because I never heard from her and sure enough I was correct that we did have a cap. But to tell us that we didn't was awful... we thought we had insurance coverage and were so excited! She was wrong. I also had a couple of instances when I had an interim nurse who forgot to send in my script and a couple of times they forgot to call me with results and I had to follow up with the on-call Doctor.

I always felt comfortable [with Dr. Andrea DiLuigi]...Doctor DiLuigi is smart, kind, empathetic, easy to relate to. I never waited long, never felt the office was overbooked, was able to get the time I needed with her. It was a great experience...17 eggs retrieved, 10 fertilized normally, 2 fertilized abnormally, 6 made it to day 5, 1 transferred (successfully), 5 frozen - drugs used centrotide, gonal F, HCG trigger, progesterone in oil injections
[The monitoring appointments at UConn Center for Advanced Reproductive Services were] Easy and as efficient as possible given there were times when many people would need to be seen. I never waited more than 15 minute and there were times when the waiting room was PACKED...Was able to get an appointment fairly quickly. Office was very Organized. All staff was approachable. Everyone was professional. The environment was warm and welcoming. There aren’t any weaknesses I experienced.

Describe the costs associated with your care under Andrea DiLuigi at Center for Advanced Reproductive Services (First Fertility Network Clinic).
Fairly reasonable. My insurance did pay for a portion of the treatments so my out of pocket expenses were not as significant as I thought they would be. Monthly IUIs cost around $200 out of pocket. My IVF cycle cost about $3000 out of pocket & $4000 for meds out of pocket.
Describe Andrea DiLuigi's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Center for Advanced Reproductive Services (First Fertility Network Clinic).
I wanted 2 embryos transferred and Dr. D said no. She was very kind in how she explained that 2 embryos would be risky, and given my age and medical history, she felt 1 was the best course of action. She was right.

I was so happy with the support and treatment I received. She [Dr. Andrea DiLuigi] was extremely thorough during the initial appointment and I felt that she had a good plan to help us achieve our goals. She performed surgery to remove polyps in my uterus before we could even start and she always put my anxiety at ease. I trusted in her ability to create a successful outcome (which she did!). I was disappointed that she didn't perform the actual retrieval and transfer, but was equally impressed with her team of doctors and it made sense to ensure the timing worked out.
It [UConn] was pretty efficient. There were a couple days that were very busy and took up to an hour to complete bloodwork, but for the most part I was done within 10 minutes.... I was very happy overall. The only drawback was driving to Farmington instead of Hartford for bloodwork/ultrasounds needed on weekends. Otherwise, they were very efficient and made the process very easy.

Describe the protocols Andrea DiLuigi used in your cycles at Center for Advanced Reproductive Services (First Fertility Network Clinic) and their degree of success.
I decided to conduct DNA testing on the embryos before transfer, which I would highly recommend. It's expensive but increases chances dramatically and helps avoid the potential heart break of a miscarriage if the DNA isn't right. Because the eggs had to be frozen to do that, my transfer was done on a natural cycle. Although I had to wait an extra month, it was so worth it and I avoided another round of painful shots since we did it naturally. I just followed the recommendations of the team and it all worked out!

Describe Andrea DiLuigi's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Center for Advanced Reproductive Services (First Fertility Network Clinic).
The doctor recommended I do a single transfer and DNA testing since at my age she would have had to transfer 2 if I didn't do the test. We wanted to avoid multiples and increase chances of success, so that was the right decision for us.

Dr. DiLuigi was extremely kind and encouraging. As a patient she made me feel very comfortable. I always felt like I could ask her anything, and would get an honest response. I felt that there were times where she definitely went above and beyond for me...Dr. Diluigi and her team were kind, easy to talk to, encouraging, and set realistic expectations. They acknowledged all of my fears and concerns and made the most challenging year of my life a little more bearable.
Our one full IVF cycle [at Uconn Center for Advanced Reproductive Medicine] with meds, monitoring, retrieval, ICSI, labs. anesthesia, etc. cost about $20,000. IUI without meds was about $450...Monitoring appointments were on a first come, first serve basis. Often patients (myself included) would get there long before the doors open to stand in line in order to get in and out as quickly as possible and get to work on time...Strengths: Early Hours, open almost everyday of the year, great staff and physicians Weaknesses: They list the New London location as a office location without any caveats, however the hours and capabilities are very limited in New London and the doctors are only in the office their twice a month.

Dr. DiLuigi's nursing staff is top notch! I looked forward to my daily calls with Toni and truly felt she was whole heartedly routing for me throughout my journey. She was profession and kind while making sure I felt like a human and not a number.
Describe your experience with Center for Advanced Reproductive Services (First Fertility Network Clinic).
Strengths: Early Hours, open almost everyday of the year, great staff and physicians Weaknesses: They list the New London location as a office location without any caveats, however the hours and capabilities are very limited in New London and the doctors are only in the office their twice a month. This means that a patient like me who lives in South Eastern, CT has to drive an hour each way to Hartford or Farmington for 90% of appointments, including cycle monitoring appointments. This makes it extremely difficult for patients who work full time and are trying to juggle the stress of a job, with the stress of an IVF cycle.

Dr. DiLuigi made it clear that as a practice they prefer to do eSET, however every patient and case is different and in my experience she felt comfortable (as long as we were completely OK with the prospect of multiples) with transferring 2 embryos on Day 3.

Dr. Engmann is an amazingly kind and compassionate brilliant Doctor. He cares very deeply about his patients...We conceived our son under his care when I was 42 years old. Our son was diagnosed with cancer at 13 months old and passed away at 17 months old. We are presently trying to have another child and Dr. Engmann has been so compassionate and kind and gentle with us. My age is a huge factor at this point and Dr Engmann has been very understanding. Conversations have been difficult as we have had failed cycles. He wants to be hopeful but realistic at the same time...Any one would be lucky to have him. He is truly one of the best doctors I have ever met...

We have used atagonist protocol, micro dose lupron. We did PGS testing and got 2 chromosomally normal embryos at 44 years of age but the transfer was unsuccessful. We have done 4 egg retrievals since losing our son to cancer to try to get chromosomally normal embryos with my own eggs. I produce a lot of eggs at 45 years old. We've retrieved 12 eggs in the 1st cycle, 26 in the 2nd, 24 in the 3rd and 30 in the 4th cycle.

We've spent over $50,000 for 5 egg retrievals which led to 3 embryo transfers. This resulted in 1 full term baby.
