He told me that he thought my chances were low several times which made me feel somewhat hopeless. But I think he is very knowledgeable in his work. I saw him for a total of two visits (one diagnostic and one when I found out about my loss). I wish I had felt more supported by him when he told us about our pregnancy loss.

He can be blunt and to the point, but he knows what he’s doing.

AFC and AMH were low but FSH was not high. Suggested IUI due to anticipated limited response to IVF stims. Suggested medicated IUI to increase chances. Got pregnant twice over the course of 5 medicated IUIs (letrozole); lost first pregnancy at 12 weeks but second pregnancy resulted in live birth.

Dr Thompson really shows that he cares by the time he takes in the evaluation visit. He will talk with you about the whole process for as long as you would like. He makes sure you understand everything.

If you want to know all the logistics of the embryo and all that make sure to ask. Dr Thompson doesn’t focus on that stuff but he will tell you if you ask.

For the egg retrieval I remember taking gonal and Lupron. For the transfer I took birth control pills then Lupron, estrogen patches and progesterone oil injections.

Transfer itself was around $3500.

Dr Thompson spent a lot of money on the research to only do a single transfer. He provides a lot of education to why it’s safer to transfer just one embryo.

Though I only had a few interactions with Dr. Thompson, they were pleasant and helpful. He took time to answer questions and fully explained any and all procedures before starting. He also made sure his staff were following policy to ensure safety and transparency.

If you can’t get in to see Dr. Thompson, ask for a visit with his CNP Grace. She is amazing and touched base with Dr. Thompson every step of the way.

I was very fortunate to have insurance that negotiated prices. Each IUI was expected to be about $900 but ended up being about $470.

The clinic strongly prefers a single embryo transfer

He has an exceptional bed side manner, doesn't get annoyed when you ask a million questions, and doesn't make you feel rushed. The time you spend with him feels valuable because you have his full attention and feel like he genuinely wants to make this happen for you.

If you've been thinking about it and putting it off, just do it! You'll regret wasting all that time when you see how positive and uplifting he and his staff are.

I was put on Clomid because I wasn't ovulating. I had hysterosalpingogram to evaluate tubes and was diagnosed with a blockage due to endometriosis. A laparoscopy was performed and lesions removed. Lupron for suppression of the endometriosis and to give me a clean slate so to speak. Now I'm trying iui for a few cycles before making the leap and beginning to save for ivf

First visit is roughly $250 for exam and ultrasound. Iui is around $500 per cycle

I'm not at these steps yet but the doctor is very thorough.

He provided us clear answers for any questions we had and he was always happy to answer questions. We never left feeling as though we didn’t understand what was going on. The only thing I would change is that he did give pushback in the beginning due to us being a younger couple, it was more so asking if we were really prepared and I felt that to be a bit off putting. I think it was more of a parental type discussion than a doctor patient discussion. But despite that we loved his bedside manner and great sense of humor.

With any fertility doctor or procedures, ask questions and don’t be afraid to advocate for yourself.

We did a frozen embryo transfer with genetic testing. We didn’t get the choice to transfer more than one because we only had one genetically normal embryo. The transfer went smoothly minus the very full bladder. This resulted in a full term healthy pregnancy.

He is very very thorough in his communication about the expectations, he is very clear about the process and what the future could hold, he's also very very available and replies to calls and emails almost instantly, literally within 5 minutes to an hour.

Do lots of research and ask questions, and make sure you stay determined.

We used injectible hormones, to stimulate egg production We're going for as many eggs as possible so we have the largest pool of eggs from which to get normal embryos as possible. In my case, creating embryos was successful, above average successful, I stimulate very very well; even at 45 years old, I had 14 eggs retrieved. But we are looking for eggs that aren't too old to properly line up and are free of chromosomal abnormalities.

The first IVF cycle cost $19,500 inclusive of all genetic testing.

Kind, personable. He puts you at ease by being silly and easy going. I wish he had more time after appointments to discuss results, next steps, etc. Its hard to ask questions/express concerns when you're half naked, laying on a table.

Do your research on procedures, risks, diagnoses before appointments, don't rely on the doctor to walk you through it.

After diagnostics he prescribed 2.5mg letrozole for cycle days 5-9. I do not have any issues ovulating so no trigger shot was needed. The letrozole was just to help follicle production and to potentially shift ovulation towards the middle of the cycle instead of too late. We have male factor infertility so the iui was to help with that and my low cervical fluid.

Diagnostic testing was covered by insurance 70%. My 30% for hysteroscopy was $190, for hsg $320. IUI was not covered but they gave a 25% discount. We paid $560. Appears to be cheaper than national averages of procedures.

I hardly saw him and when I did he did not seem familiar with my patient file or history. Additionally, when my uterine lining had not reached 8 on the first try he immediately brought up a surrogate. It felt as though he had no priority in helping me to figure out how to change the course to help me get there.

Asked to see if his wife or PA for appointments that may be emotional in nature.

The cost for our IVF with egg donation was approximately $38,000. That included the donor and one transfer. Any additional transfers are $4,000 each

Dr. Caperton is an advocate of single embryo and highly discouraged multiples.

He was knowledgable and kind. Not the warmest person at first but neither am I or anyone in my family so I don't mind that. I always felt he was present, overheard him recording his notes about our first visit and they were extensive so I think he was giving me full attention.

see him as a professional, not a warm and fuzzy comforter

Dr Thompson was blunt but compassionate. My first transfer was a success so we were all overconfident for the 2nd and 3rd. We’re back to plan for the worst hope for the best this 4th and last transfer.

Ask all your questions and understand this is routine for him. Sometimes he forget to go slow.

Thompson starts with a standard protocol for your diagnosis and adjusts while monitoring. Over the 4 years I’ve been with him he has made adjustments as studies have indicated to.

IVF is about $14,000 to the clinic. This does not include meds, genetic testing, or acupuncture. FET is $3,400 not including meds.

With me Dr Thompson has been cautious. He is more willing to do multiple embryos when you do not have other children.

He is very good at creating an individualized plan and if something isn't working he is cautiously blunt and tells all the risks and what his expert opinion on next steps would be. I felt comfortable telling him what my main concerns were and he always addressed them in a timely manner.

He is a great doctor and typically communicates well, just ensure that if you don't fully understand don't be scared to ask questions

Initial protocol was a lot more meds than the second protocol and after two low quality retrievals we did a much more expensive hgh protocol which worked a lot better due to my egg quality not being so great

Dr. Caperton was always nice but after our 3 years under his care we don't think he did the best for us. I did 2 full IVF cycles, 3 transfers with negative results. I wish I had more information from the very beginning.

Look for another clinic out of state.

He used antagonist and agonists protocols, I don't remember the espeficifcs but I remember being on a high dose of Follistim and Menopour with a dosage of Lupron before I started the cycle.

I don't remember the exact amount but it was around $20,000 per cycle plus medicine and PGS testing.

Dr. Thompson was present and answered our questions. However, he is defensive and not the most compassionate. We left feeling really disappointed and not supported. He used our appointment as a opportunity to passive aggressively confront us about our concerns.

Avoid him

Two failed IUI with zero follow through, they did not even ask us if we were successful

I like that Dr Thompson is honest and clearly communicates the potential outcomes and doesn't give unreasonable expectations. I didn't see him for all iui procedures but felt that the other staff were well trained and capable of doing the procedure.

He'll tell you the truth. It may not be what you were hoping to hear, but its better to know what you're up against.

We tried a few iui's with letrozole and later clomid. Because of my age and diminished ovarian reserve, he recommended moving on to ivf fairly quickly. We needed time to accept that and the office was kind and patient with us.

Iui was very reasonable priced.

He asks completely inappropriate questions out of curiosity and is arrogant. He seems to think he is doing people a favor with his "gifts" rather than helping families bring children in to the world. He disgusts me.

Don't go to him, there are other choices for care in Albuquerque.

I believe Dr Thompson is a good doctor. His clinic is very busy and I think he should only treat a few patients at a time. Also the wait for appointment was a little bit longer than other doctors. The staff was not that friendly. He did want to try one last transfer and even told me he would be willing to for free. At that point I was so heartbroken

Ask as many questions as you can. Also he has had a fertility clinic since 1982. And definitely knows his stuff

We saw another Dr before Dr. Thompson and had a poor experience. Dr. Thompson knew what he was doing and was compassionate. He consistently answered our questions and treated us with kindness. Not once did we feel mistreated by him. He has great bedside manner and adjusted our treatment as needed.

As with any Dr., ask questions. Dr. Thompson proved to be educated and trustworthy!

My insurance covered the everything except copays

Dr. Caperton was articulate and forthright about the plan and likelihood of success and was very willing to address all of my concerns. He was warm and knowledgable in his specialty and he was able to quick diagnose my PCOS when I had 12 years of OB/GYNs who didn't diagnose me.

I had insurance that covered some of the cost so I believe the cost for me per cycle was about $250 for IUI with trigger shot.

Dr. Thompson was very kind and throrough. He took the time to answer questions or concerns. He was knowledgeable and did not seem to rush to hurry on to the next patient. He took his time and made sure I felt comfortable and all my questions were answered.

As with any doctor, just do your research and have questions prepared to ask.

I only saw Dr. Thompson once for an IUI, so I don’t have much familiarity with his protocols.

He seemed to be a competent doctor, insofar as he seemed to have enough medical knowledge to avoid seriously hurting patients. His communication and preparedness were lacking. He did not seem to have reviewed our file before we arrived. He skimmed paperwork and threw out odds of success with various treatments without connecting it to our specific characteristics, which made it seem like he was just pulling numbers out of thin air. He also claimed in his reports and in our initial consultation that we have less frozen sperm at our disposal than we truly have. When I later brought up concern about doing fully medicated FET when natural or modified natural seemed possible for me, he got very defensive. I brought up the possible increased risk of pre-eclampsia associated with fully medicated FET, plus the invasiveness, and he said "why even do IVF then?" because IVF is already associated with increased risk of birth defects. This, of course, is after he told us we didn't have enough sperm to do IUI (a doctor from a well-renound clinic out of state said we had enough for IUI). He then dismissed my concerns for my well-being as "not wanting to take shots" and claimed that all over the country doctors do what he does. Lots of clinics do natural or modified natural FET for good candidates, which I am. My new doctor is comfortable doing them. He also brought up scheduling as part of the problem. If he had just said "I don't have much experience doing natural FET so I can't guarantee the same results if we try it", I might have still transferred care, but I would have come away with a much more positive view of the doctor. All of our interactions with him felt like he was misrepresenting or omitting critical information to get us to just go along with what he recommended. This strikes me as deeply misogynistic coming from a person who exclusively serves women, especially women who are struggling with something as sensitive as infertility. I left there feeling like even if another doctor recommended the same protocol, but at least explained their rationale coherently, I'd feel better going forward with the treatment.

He is only comfortable doing fully medicated FET, so if you are a candidate for natural FET and you want that, don't waste your time with him unless you really have no other options.

We did an initial consultation and evaluation including blood work, ultrasound, HSG (bubble test), and hysteroscopy.

About $1000 for the consultation and the initial evaluation.

Standard single embryo preference

He is quite knowledgeable about the treatment and the course of treatment I want to take but were relatively underprepared with how to discuss or approach me as a trans man pursuing egg harvesting. By the end of the appointment I felt respected and as if they had adjusted but I felt like I was a “surprise” at first.

Call the clinic and discuss your file over the phone before your appointment.

During my consultation there was a nurse who I hadn’t spoken to much in the room which felt odd. There was an internal ultrasound used as well.

My consultation was approximately $250 with a $75 holding fee. The entire cost including medication for egg retrieval is apple $15,000 but the procedure at the clinic (not including medication) is about $10,000

Dr. Thompson is very pleasant to work with. He always talked me through difficult procedures like the HSG and hysteroscopy so I knee what was going on and how much longer the procedure was going to last. He is very good about explaining any sort of touch before he touched me and made me feel safe and confident in his work. He would also check on my husband during procedures to make sure my husband was ok.

Write down and ask lots of questions.

The HSG and hysteroscopy cost about $1200 and my husbands semen analysis was around $300. My IUI procedure was $700.

He helped me get my son, but when the other embryo stopped growing he showed no compassion. When I continued to lose every embryo we transferred he said, I’m not sure what’s going on your not fat. I asked if we could change to the other dr in the practice for our last 2 embryos I was told that wasn’t an option. Which is really disappointing because he wasn’t willing to change the protocol. So we transferred our last 2 embryos and ended up in the same boat! Miscarried both.

Ask questions and demand answers. You are hiring them!

We tried to do IUI with injections after having worked with a dr that tried clomid and famara with me. I wouldn’t ever ovulate. When we saw no results we went on to IVF withICSI. I ordered a ton of shots but for whatever reason I responded very quickly! I had a possible 50 eggs to remove 😳 but they only retrieved 14.

We spend 14,000 on our IVF 6,000 on meds, 5,000 per frozen transfer. That doesn’t include the cost of travel as we are 3 hours from the clinic.

He is very knowledgeable and makes you feel safe. He has good bedside manner. I love the fact that he is very straight forward, I don't like false hope. You get a sense of family from him. Everytime I've gone in, he is very good at asking if I'm okay and if everything is well.

He is very straight forward. This is such an important topic and he understands that this isn't the place for sugarcoating.

They make you feel very comfortable. Their very good at communicating with you the entire time.

Surgery cost to remove a wall in my uterus, cost for egg retrieval, cost for genetic testing, appointment cost, lab work, and cost for freezing embryo.

Great experience overall . Sweet nurses . Made me feel welcome which him with my anxiety as this whole process has been difficult. I felt important. I felt like many other women may have a even more difficult issue and they still made my issue that much more important. Communication was key.

Trust and be honest. Don’t be impatient and let them work their magic.
