Attention to Detail

Attention to detail is on a 1 - 10 scale, and is scored based on the rate, and severity, of errors committed by the clinic according to the patients.

For example, a severe error might be failing to inform a patient of critical information, while a small error might be failing to call a patient with results.

CDC Success Rates

This is the most recent data from the CDC. The CDC cautions that it should not be used to compare doctors and clinics. This data represents the outcomes of IVF cycles when using a person's own eggs.

For more information please see our FAQs.

Where you see a “?” on the chart, a clinic has done fewer than 20 cycles in this category and age range, so the CDC says showing percentages from this small data set would be misleading and unreliable.

Dr. DeUgarte was thorough, answers all my questions, and makes herself available on her personal cellphone. She takes an interest to not just your clinical picture but to the person as a whole and is open to your feedback. She is assertive in her knowledge yet not condescending...Her initial preference seems to be on single although she's doesn't seem to be categorically opposed to multiple.
The CMD Fertility clinic is well organized, the staff is caring and well trained and except for one department (Financials), they are all very good at maintaining fluid and up-to-date communication. I never seem to be able to reach the financials department over the phone, even after leaving messages. I have had more success via email but either it takes awhile for a response or it takes several attempts on my end. Sometimes their answers are more clear than others, but in spite of, they have always had a pleasant and caring demeanor. The parking in the area is terrible, and the reception and hallway areas feel a bit cramped at times. Regardless, I still feel I made the right choice when considering the quality of the care.
How was your experience with Catherine DeUgarte at CMD Fertility (closed)?
I think Dr. DeUgarte is knowledgeable and professional, yet compassionate and personable. She communicates clearly without feeling imposing. For example, when we said we would like to wait to do one of the test to give a chance to some of the lifestyle changes we were implementing to take effect, she was encouraging yet drew the line to not wait too much longer after that.

During our failed Clomid trial and two failed IUIs, she [Dr. DeUgarte] took the time to explain next steps and talk me through pros/cons. With IVF, it's been a different story. She seems reluctant to give me her recommendations when I ask her for her opinion...she gives me very few options and very little advice. I feel alone and in the dark...When our FETs have failed, she's called to say sorry and then just says take some time to think it over and call me when you get your period...
staff [at CMD Fertility] have treated me like a number since day 1. Absolutely zero patience or empathy...the staff are very curt over the phone...the nurse kept talking about me in the third person as if I wasn't there...The clinic seems to be organized and I appreciate the calendars they give you. No complaints about the scheduling or anything like that. The weakness is just in the way they treat you...
How was your experience with Catherine DeUgarte at CMD Fertility (closed)?
I loved Dr. D in the beginning. We had a zoom call where she took the time to explain everything to me and my partner and she answered all of our questions. During our failed Clomid trial and two failed IUIs, she took the time to explain next steps and talk me through pros/cons. With IVF, it's been a different story. She seems reluctant to give me her recommendations when I ask her for her opinion. When our FETs have failed, she's called to say sorry and then just says take some time to think it over and call me when you get your period. Then when I call, she gives me very few options and very little advice. I feel alone and in the dark.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Catherine DeUgarte at CMD Fertility (closed)?
She'll be very positive and optimistic until things don't work out and then she won't be much help when they don't. For example: during the transfer she'll say things like "let's get you pregnant!" or "this one's going to work!" but then when it doesn't she'll say "well, it was only 50/50." So take what she says with a grain of salt.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Catherine DeUgarte at CMD Fertility (closed)?
While Dr Deugarte has been extremely patient and kind, her staff have treated me like a number since day 1. Absolutely zero patience or empathy. For example: At every failed IUI or failed FET Dr. D tells me that I can take a few days to think about what I want my next steps to be and to call her when I get my period to start a new plan. Then, when I do, the staff are very curt over the phone and tell me that I basically only have two options (take a break or try again) and to pick one. When I say I'd like to speak with Dr. D first so that I can ask questions, I get sighs and eye rolls. That's just one example. Another example: I was in the exam room with Dr. D and a nurse and the nurse kept talking about me in the third person as if I wasn't there. Another example: As I was getting my blood drawn (literally as the needle was in me) a staff member came in and told me I owed a payment and to go see the accountant ASAP. She also texted and called me within the same 5 minutes (not sure if she didn't realize I was the same person or what...). I certainly don't get that kind of persistence when it's about anything else. I'm scared to speak up because I don't want to be retaliated against or treated differently because I'm a "difficult patient" so I keep my mouth shut. But I feel awful and trapped. To take someone who's already in a vulnerable, emotional state, and treat them like they're somehow intentionally making your life more difficult is beyond me. They still have two of my embryos so I can't switch doctors. I don't know what to do.
Describe the protocols Catherine DeUgarte used in your cycles at CMD Fertility (closed) and their degree of success.
A round of Clomid (or maybe it was two? I can't remember). Then two rounds of medicated IUI with a trigger shot. Then IVF with 8 eggs retrieved, 6 fertilized, 4 passed PGS testing. 2 failed FETs with estrace and progesterone shots.
Describe your experience with your nurse at CMD Fertility (closed).
I can't begin to describe how awful my nurse has treated me.
Describe your experience with CMD Fertility (closed).
The clinic seems to be organized and I appreciate the calendars they give you. No complaints about the scheduling or anything like that. The weakness is just in the way they treat you. Also, they should offer payment plans.

She [Dr. Catherine DeUgarte] has been honest, caring, supportive, and always goes the extra mile to be there for us when we have needed her the most...She treats us like we are family and not patients. She takes her time with us, answers all our questions and provides us with what we need. There have even been times when she calls or texts me directly. She is truly an exceptional doctor.
There are not enough words to describe how Jackie [nurse at CMD Fertility] and the entire nursing staff made us feel when we walked into the office. They were all so caring and compassionate and always knew how to take care of us...Great doctor, great staff, clean and cozy office space, they make you feel at home...Meds, Appointments, Lab Work, Ultrasounds, Retrievals, Polyp removal, roughly $25,000+

Being a patient to Dr. D is an honor. If it wasn't for her I am not sure I could keep going. My husband and I have been making a trek to LA for the past 6 years to see Dr. D because she always assures us that we will someday have a family. She treats us like we are family and not patients. She takes her time with us, answers all our questions and provides us with what we need. There have even been times when she calls or texts me directly. She is truly an exceptional doctor.

Dr. DeUgarte has been an exceptional doctor. Thru the years my husband and I have been going thru this process, Dr. D has been the only one to give us a ray of hope. She has been honest, caring, supportive, and always goes the extra mile to be there for us when we have needed her the most.

I have done 5 cycles with Dr. D. All with Gonal F, Follistim, Menopur, Lupron, Patches, Progesterone, and Birth Control. Due to my diminished ovarian reserve even though these treatments were aggressive, my body did not produce eggs like it should have.

Strengths: Great doctor, great staff, clean and cozy office space, they make you feel at home. Weaknesses: I do not see any. The only thing that was an issue for me was it took me almost 2.5 hours to get to an appointment because I was coming from Orange County,. It was worth every mile though. :)

From the first day that I met her [Dr. DeUgarte] she gave me her cell phone number and that was now 4 years ago and to date if I text her with a question or concern she replies quickly, most times the same day but no more than 24 hours...also works with her patients financially allowing payment installments, discount packages for services and discounts with prescriptions filled by the pharmacy located in her building. Her strengths are patient care and carrying out necessary
The nursing staff at CMD fertility is excellent and very thorough...A frozen Embryo transfer cost is $3350. With discount the cost is $2512.50. The facility fee is $975. Acupuncture pre & post is $350...The clinic is ran well. Each time you go in you know what to expect and what procedures to follow as far as checking in and checking out and everything in between. They make things very smooth and easy for you from going to the lab to going downstairs to pick up medications.
How was your experience with Catherine DeUgarte at CMD Fertility (closed)?
As a patient of Dr. DeUrgarte's, I would say she is warm and personable and most importantly reachable. From the first day that I met her she gave me her cell phone number and that was now 4 years ago and to date if I text her with a question or concern she replies quickly, most times the same day but no more than 24 hours. Dr. D also works with her patients financially allowing payment installments, discount packages for services and discounts with prescriptions filled by the pharmacy located in her building. Her strengths are patient care and carrying out necessary Medical procedures. If I had to come up with a weakness, I guess I would say recommending and diagnosing pre transfer surgeries and procedures. She airs on the side of caution and maybe some surgeries and or procedures suggested aren't a necessity. But maybe they are, I'm not a medical professional. I'm just the one paying the bill(s). Single, with cash & with no insurance assistance I might add. Another weakness may be not allowing the patient, as in my case, decide how many frozen embryos to implant . I am of advanced maternal age, only have a certain amount of embryos from donor eggs left and am paying for each transfer cash which is a hardship. I would have liked to have had a say so with regards to the number of embryos being transferred at a time, I asked for two. My first two transfers she implanted two and now with the attempts to extend my family she will only implant one per cycle. Nevertheless I am forever grateful to God and Dr. Deurgarte for she has compassionately assisted me with conceiving one live birth thus far, of my beautiful first child, and we are currently working on extending my family as we speak. Thus far the attempts have yielded negative pregnancy tests yet she and I are hopeful that the next cycle yields a positive pregnancy test and viable full-term pregnancy resulting in the birth of my second healthy child.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Catherine DeUgarte at CMD Fertility (closed)?
Tell her what your expectations are and what you want to achieve from the beginning. Be candid and open with everything.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Catherine DeUgarte at CMD Fertility (closed)?
Dr. DeUrgarte or Dr. D as most of her patients call her, is very personable, warm & empathetic to the journey that so many of us are on. She also has great bedside manner. She presents herself as being empathetic to the situation at hand. She has a jovial personality and seems to genuinely want you to succeed at beginning and or extending your family.
Describe the protocols Catherine DeUgarte used in your cycles at CMD Fertility (closed) and their degree of success.
To my recollection , To stimulate a period if needed, she prescribes low-dose birth control pills. Following that at a given time the birth control pills are stopped and your period starts. Following the start of your period, if needed and depending on your diagnosis and your particular situation, you begin taking estrogen orally or you begin delestrogen shots 0.2cc every 3 days along with inserting an estrogen pill vaginally daily. 6 days before transfer you begin taking progesterone shots 1cc daily along with the prior regimen. The day of transfer you begin inserting crinone 8cc vaginally daily until test day. You also take one baby aspirin 80 mg daily. Prenatal vitamin and vitamin E daily. Any additional supplements are at the patient's discretion. All of this was done to thicken my uterine walls in hopes that the embryo would be able to stick and stay.

The nursing staff at CMD fertility is excellent and very thorough.

Describe the costs associated with your care under Catherine DeUgarte at CMD Fertility (closed).
I don't recall the total cost for a fresh Cycle using donor eggs. I just recall it was very expensive. A frozen Embryo transfer cost is $3350. With discount the cost is $2512.50. The facility fee is $975. Acupuncture pre & post is $350. Medication is approximately $800. Embryo storage fee is $650. Lab work is approximately $500 (she gives discounts on some labs also).
Describe Catherine DeUgarte's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at CMD Fertility (closed).
My first two cycles one of which resulted in the live birth of my beautiful child she said the maximum embryos that she would transfer at a time is two. She transferred two during the fresh cycle which failed and two during the second attempt using Frozen embryos which yielded a positive pregnancy and healthy birth. Unbeknown to me until preparing for the extension of my family did I find out that because I am of advanced maternal age and my uterus isn't perfect looking and beautifully lined that she made the decision, without me, that she would only be transferring one embryo. That was disheartening to me as well as shocking. No matter what I said or how many times I asked she had a very strong opinion on her reasoning for only transferring one per cycle. She said that if both embryos took it could be dangerous for MyHealth and the health of The Unborn children. She had been successful for me in the past and so I was prayerful that even with the one and not the two I would get pregnant. But to date after multiple tries I have not (yet! but will).

I opted out of one test she [Dr. Catherine DeUgarte] recommended, and I wish I would have had it. It would have saved us a few IUI attempts...We started with unmedicated IUI and then moved to IVF. We had an egg retrieval and a frozen embryo...is kind, sensitive, and positive. She took time to answer all of our questions and was compassionate the whole time. We felt she really wanted our success...She is up on the latest research as well. She counseled us on all options available and led us through each process. She didn’t recommend going straight to IVF- she encouraged us to start with IUI. She’s patient-focused, not money-focused.
The facility [CMD Fertility] is modern, and it has everything you’d need. Testing, labs, everything is all there. An acupuncturist in the same building is convenient. Traffic can be an issue if you live outside the area, especially for morning appointments. Give yourself plenty of time. The parking is also pretty expensive. It’s best to park in a metered spot or a nearby garage...The entire staff is wonderful. They are so responsive...They remember our names every time, and they make themselves accessible when we have questions.

I did the standard stims, but Dr D [DeUgarte] also incorporated a trigger shot into my regimin, as a means to decrease overstimulation. ... Contrary to other dr's, she advised a low salt, high protein diet, post retrieval. ... Dr D strongly suggested that I do weekly accupuncture ... she is extremely thorough, insanely smart and takes the time to explain every step of the process and work closely with you to create the fertility path that best suites you.
Their communication, organization, willingness to work with you on pricing, and overall warm disposition is far above the norm. My only issue is, the parking in the facility is pricey. I wish they could validate because it definitely adds up. ... Compared to other fertility clinics in southern california, CMD fertility is the most affordable I came across.

Describe the protocols Catherine DeUgarte used in your cycles at CMD Fertility (closed) and their degree of success.
Because I was hesitant to dive right into IVF, we decided to do a few rounds of medicated IUI's. Due to endometriosis blocking my right tube, Dr D worked very carefully with us to monitor what side I was ovulating from, to make sure it was my good side / increase our chances. Unfortunately, after 4 rounds (i stubbornly insisted on a 4th), we moved onto IVF. I did the standard stims, but Dr D also incorporated a trigger shot into my regimin, as a means to decrease overstimulation. Contrary to other dr's, she advised a low salt, high protein diet, post retrieval. My recouperation was easy with zero complications, and we happily have 5 pgs normal embryos. (20 retrieved, 19 fertilized, 8 blast). We are two days post retrieval and awaiting results soon! Furthermore, Dr D strongly suggested that I do weekly accupuncture. I truly believe that this had a strong factor in my positive IVF results.

All of the staff at Dr D's office is top notch. The front desk, nurses, finance team and the lab staff far exceeded our expectations. Everyone is incredibly friendly, welcoming, communicative and respectful of what you are going through. You truly feel that they are fully invested in the success of your fertility treatments.
Describe your experience with CMD Fertility (closed).
I am more than happy with every aspect of CMD fertility. Their communication, organization, willingness to work with you on pricing, and overall warm disposition is far above the norm. My only issue is, the parking in the facility is pricey. I wish they could validate because it definitely adds up.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Catherine DeUgarte at CMD Fertility (closed).
Compared to other fertility clinics in southern california, CMD fertility is the most affordable I came across. Furthermore, Dr D is willing to work with you on costs, and consult with you on ways to save money.
Describe Catherine DeUgarte's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at CMD Fertility (closed).
Dr D advised us to move forward with one embryo, knowing that it would be tough for my husband and I to afford and manage twins.

She [Dr. DeUgarte] is so sweet and caring. Right away, she hugs you like a friend. You chat with her in her office like a conversation versus doctor to patient.... At times, it's almost too casual. She's recommended additional doctors for me to see as a preparation for the procedures, but she doesn't have business cards for them.... She is very accommodating and thoughtful. I can easily ask her anything without feeling embarrassed for not knowing any better.
The staff [CMD Fertility] is very nice, I've spoken with several people. The receptionist is very helpful and will accommodate scheduling me via email. The nurse that provides me with my test results is very straight forward, it would be nice if she can tell me what the range of the results are (whether it's high, low, etc.) versus just the result....Parking is really expensive in the structure and they do not validate. The office is beautifully decorated, very feminine and absolutely very busy at times. I think the space is shared with a different clinic.
How was your experience with Catherine DeUgarte at CMD Fertility (closed)?
The process is overwhelming, and as simple as she tries to explain the procedures and the things that I have to do it's hard to remember all the details. At times, it's almost too casual. She's recommended additional doctors for me to see as a preparation for the procedures, but she doesn't have business cards for them. I'm very detailed and like to prepare, so having the gritty details makes me feel more comfortable. I'd love to walk away with a to-do list of sorts to help keep me on track and know what we've covered and what to expect down the road. I'm also asked to do blood tests, however, I don't know exactly what we are checking. I feel like I just need to trust that she'll guide me.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Catherine DeUgarte at CMD Fertility (closed)?
Be more prepared with a huge list of questions. She'll answer them all. I walked in expecting that I didn't have to do the research and she would tell me everything single thing that I need. It gets overwhelming while you're talking to her as you're taking in so much information, it's hard to remember to ask everything that you need to and should. Actually ask, what else you need to know. Also ask for a written list of things that you need to do and/or see.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Catherine DeUgarte at CMD Fertility (closed)?
She is so sweet and caring. Right away, she hugs you like a friend. You chat with her in her office like a conversation versus doctor to patient. She responds to my emails, to all my crazy questions, she has even called me on her cell phone as she was driving home. She is very accommodating and thoughtful. I can easily ask her anything without feeling embarrassed for not knowing any better.
Describe the protocols Catherine DeUgarte used in your cycles at CMD Fertility (closed) and their degree of success.
I'm just at the beginning and am on Progesterone for 10 days, then BCP then estrogen pills.
Describe your experience with your nurse at CMD Fertility (closed). (Assigned nurse: Zuzana)
The staff is very nice, I've spoken with several people. The receptionist is very helpful and will accommodate scheduling me via email. The nurse that provides me with my test results is very straight forward, it would be nice if she can tell me what the range of the results are (whether it's high, low, etc.) versus just the result. I end up Googling to see what it means. My assigned co-ordinator is very sweet and responses super quickly. She'll check-in with Dr. DeUgarte and gets back to me or will have Dr. DeUgarte call or email me directly. The only thing is that I wish they were more detailed. I like to have a plan and asked to have a detailed description of my next steps as I was overwhelmed with the information that I was given during my visit and I wasn't able to write down each step as we talked through it. I received a response very quickly and a timeline of sorts, however, it did not detail it as I would have like. A few days passed, and I reached out again to then find out that I didn't get quite the answer that i had hoped for and was a week delayed. Otherwise, the staff is so very sweet and quick to respond.
Describe your experience with CMD Fertility (closed).
I've been to the office early morning and mid-morning. The only time I waiting only 30 minutes was early morning. The first visit was a 1-hour wait, almost 1.5 on the 2nd visit. It would be great if the appointments were punctual. To note, I was early for all my appointments. Parking is really expensive in the structure and they do not validate. The office is beautifully decorated, very feminine and absolutely very busy at times. I think the space is shared with a different clinic.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Catherine DeUgarte at CMD Fertility (closed).
She was really good about costs as the treatments are not covered by my insurance. My earlier visits were listed as missed period visits, so it was covered and all I had to pay was the co-pay. For the frozen embryo transfer, the costs includes reviewing donor's records, visits, co-ordination, injection instructions, ultrasounds, blood tests, the transfer, facility fees at $4825.
Describe Catherine DeUgarte's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at CMD Fertility (closed).
Because of my age, she is only recommending a single embryo transfer.
What specific things went wrong at CMD Fertility (closed)?
  • Failed to order appropriate test
Describe the specific things that went wrong at CMD Fertility (closed).
They forgot to advise us and provide the lab paperwork for my husband's sperm test. After my appointment, they told me to find my donor egg. When I found my donor, the egg bank said that I had to have the sperm test completed first.

Dr. DeUgarte has treated me with such kindness and compassion that you would never expect to get from a doctor, but when going through infertility it's what you need most in addition to a plan that is catered to you and your partner. Before seeing Dr. D my husband and I were very stressed and confused about our fertility struggles and next steps to take. We were seeing another RE and he never made things clear for us which made all of our decisions even more confusing. Finding Dr. D was a godsend. At the first appointment she had already reviewed our records, went over some studies for couples in our situation and laid out a plan that my husband and I were both comfortable with. She has always been a calming force whenever we see her and we actually look forward to our visits.
Your exceptional care at CMD Fertility starts the moment you arrive. After my second appointment I have always been greeted by name and with a smile. I never have to sign anything, Maria always checks me in automatically. All of the nurses are kind and compassionate. The financial coordinator is so sweet and also took so much time to help me understand my insurance coverage. ... I wish every women going through infertility struggles could come here or at least find a doctor and staff that are as exceptional as CMD Fertility.

As with any doctor you see for infertility do your research and know the questions you want to ask beforehand. Bring a pen and paper because you will learn a lot during your consult.

Dr. Deugarte is incredible beyond words. She has treated my husband and me like family. She's the kind of doctor that gives you a hug when she sees you and asks you how you've been emotionally. She has taken so much time with me to explain every detail of the process and reassure me along the way. When deciding the next steps to take she'll pull up studies and her own results (blocking names of course) to help us make a well rounded decision. She helped me avoid a surgery for a possible septum, by simply ordering an MRI when the first RE we went to wanted to operate to diagnose. She has never pushed the most expensive procedures, in fact she encouraged us to try 3 IUIs before moving to IVF when I wanted to go to IVF immediately. From the first appointment she gave me her cell phone and while she was away on vacation when I was stimming for egg retrieval she checked in a few times to see how I was handling the meds. She and her staff care about me as a person and I'm actually sad that we'll eventually have to find an OBGYN and leave Dr. D and her amazing staff.
Describe the protocols Catherine DeUgarte used in your cycles at CMD Fertility (closed) and their degree of success.
We tried 3 medicated IUIs (2 with clomid and 1 with follistim) before moving to IVF. She said studies showed at my age I should try 3 IUIs first. We moved onto IVF and she suggested 1/2 of our eggs be fertilized with ICSI because we were more in the unexplained category and also recommended PGS testing and a medicated FET. A frozen transfer she said would reduce my chances of OHSS (I had 24 follicles) and also give my body time to recover from all of the medications.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at CMD Fertility (closed).
In addition to great bedside manners all the nurses are efficient and quick at following up if I have a question. I might talk to one nurse and then another and they are seamless.
Describe your experience with CMD Fertility (closed).
I wish every women going through infertility struggles could come here or at least find a doctor and staff that are as exceptional as CMD Fertility. Their mission is a "Exceptionally personal and caring approach to infertility." They've definitely achieved that with me and who doesn't want a caring approach when it comes to infertility?
Describe the costs associated with your care under Catherine DeUgarte at CMD Fertility (closed).
We had great insurance coverage so everything involved with the egg retrieval, ICSC, PGS and transfer were $8,000. Most expensive charge was for PGS testing.
Describe Catherine DeUgarte's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at CMD Fertility (closed).
She always recommends transferring 1 embryo especially if PGS tested but would transfer 2 if we wanted.

I wholly trusted Dr. DeUgarte, who was equal parts sensitive and lovely to interact with, and both talented and cutting-edge as a doctor. My case was complicated and difficult, and I could tell she was thinking about my case and working away at it. Once she went to a conference and came back with some new research, which she gave me to read, saying excitedly that this applied to my case and that we'd adjust our course of treatment. That was the medication and protocol that finally resulted in the birth of my daughter.
I found her bedside manner to be wonderful. She was so caring and listened attentively to my medical history. Over two years, she patiently answered all my questions and involved me the choices we made and the fertility process. She is supportive and a determined, gifted doctor; she was so confident that I would get to a successful pregnancy, even toward the end when I no longer believed that. And she was right; my daughter is now three.

What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Catherine DeUgarte at CMD Fertility (closed)?
I think the first time patients visit a fertility doctor, they are often hesitant and wanting to go a very conservative route. In my first visit with her, I was caught off guard and felt that her suggestion of treatment plans were more aggressive than I expected; but she proved very willing to go slow with me and start off with milder procedures like medication alone. Over the course of a year and a half and several IUIs, no success. In the end it was IVF that resulted in my child. In hindsight I see that she was right at that first visit; because of my age and fertility issues, aggressive treatment was the appropriate course for me, and as a skilled doctor she was telling me what she knew from experience. It would have saved me time and money to go with her instincts from the start. But I don't think that's an uncommon experience for fertility patients, to take time to wade in, and she respected and was sensitive to the process I was going through.

She has been extremely communicative throughout the entire process, explaining everything and answering all my questions. All nursing staff and office staff are great here! They [CMD Fertility] call/email when they say they will and are always reachable.... A well-oiled machine and everything is done in house (labs, ER, transfer, etc). It is so easy to only have to go to one office for everything. Only downside is parking in the building can be rather expensive. Arrive early to look for street parking!... IUI was approximately $2500. IVF is around $16k plus meds.

She [Dr. DeUgarte] blamed that my embryos failed due to they were fertilized from frozen eggs. After I didn’t get any normal embryos from the IVF cycles, she said I did the right thing to freeze my eggs when I was younger. She implanted both of my PGS tested normal embryos fertilized from my frozen egg at the wrong time. That error made it impossible for them to survive. She was very not focus, skipping over medical
Started with 22 follicles [at CMD Fertility], 14 retrieved, 9 fertilized, 4 blastocyst, 0 PGS tested normal...For one of my follow up appointments, the wait was 1 hour 45 minutes and the talk was less than 10 min...ultrasound machine didn’t have the feature to self record the follicle size onto the computer, she [doctor] had a nurse manually write them down and then input them on the computer afterward. Once with no nurse available, I wrote down the information for her. I went to other doctors and realized their machines have the feature to self record the follicle size into the system. During the covid time, the wait was shorter. Before the covid time, the wait time ranged approx. 30 min to 1 hour 45 minutes.
How was your experience with Catherine DeUgarte at CMD Fertility (closed)?
I brought two PGS-tested normal embryos to CMD to undergo Frozen Embryos Transfer (FET) procedures. The doctor implanted both of my embryos during an interval outside the “implantation windows”. This error made it impossible for the embryos to survive. The two lost PGS-tested normal embryos were fertilized from my 39 year-old egg. Following the FET failures, I went through six more IVF cycles that yielded zero normal embryos. I am on my seventh cycle. It is extremely difficult at age 43 to yield PGS-normal embryos. The doctor repetitively claimed that my failures was likely due to the fact that those embryo were fertilized from frozen eggs. Other fertility doctors I consulted since all disagreed with her assessment. They said implanting timing is crucial factor to success. Following the two failures I did an IVF at CMD. This time she did the Endometrial Receptivity Analysis (ERA) test to determine the timing “implantation window”, the result clearly indicated that both of the previous of the FET transfers were implanted at the wrong time. Those embryos were not giving any chance. According to other fertility specialists that I have since consulted, they said they would have highly recommended or even required that ERA testing be done BEFORE the two FET transfers, given my age and situation. Yet, ERA testing was not conducted for the two transfers at CMD. For the ERA procedure she finally did for the next IVF, during the middle of the procedure, she didn’t have the skill to continue and asked her nurse to run to next door to grab another doctor to finish the procedure for her.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Catherine DeUgarte at CMD Fertility (closed)?
According to other doctors, my endometrium lining is very good and I don’t have any endometriosis, my chance of getting pregnant for each transfer with PGS tested normal embryos should be very high. I had even mentioned to Dr. DeUgarte that I intended to have at least one child and ideally hoped to have two children from the two embryos. Because I chose a wrong doctor, I lost everything and suffered tremendously. Her improper treatment caused me extensive damages including my potential to have a biological child, significant medical expenses for following the 7 IVF I did, time, in addition lots of pain and emotional distress. She will give you her phone number and is always smily, but those are not the reason to choose a doctor. My advice is to choose carefully and pay attention to the medical knowledge, skill, and the morality of the doctor. She lacks all those qualities. I find her very incompetent. Do your research, you will find her approx. 4 years span of medical malpractice case.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Catherine DeUgarte at CMD Fertility (closed)?
I went to her office after two failed FET transfers, she was looking at her Instagram and told me someone posted their baby on her page and asked me to join her Instagram. She didn't mentioned about my loss. She was inconsistent in her words, contradicted herself, and gave inaccurate medical information. She blamed that my embryos failed due to they were fertilized from frozen eggs. After I didn’t get any normal embryos from the IVF cycles, she said I did the right thing to freeze my eggs when I was younger. She implanted both of my PGS tested normal embryos fertilized from my frozen egg at the wrong time. That error made it impossible for them to survive. She was very not focus, skipping over medical questions but talked often about misc. stuff such as her dog, her cashmere sweater, her weekend, her kids, her Christmas shopping, other people getting pregnant, etc. After I left her clinic and wrote her about my dissatisfied experience there, she never respond.
Describe the protocols Catherine DeUgarte used in your cycles at CMD Fertility (closed) and their degree of success.
FET procedures: Estrace 2 mg for 3 weeks, Gestone 1cc, baby aspirn 81 mg. Both times she implanted the embryos at the wrong time. Both time failed IVF: Gonal F 300IU, Omnitrope .25, Menopur 150 IU, Cetrotide. Lupron trigger 4mg and novarel 200IU. Started with 22 follicles, 14 retrieved, 9 fertilized, 4 blastocyst, 0 PGS tested normal.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at CMD Fertility (closed).
During the covid time, at 9:30 after my ultrasound, Jackie told me to wait at the pharmacy downstairs and once they open at 10am, she would call for the prescription for me to pick up. I waited till 10:30 and gave Jackie a call, she didn’t pick up and didn’t return my call, I went up to her office at 10:45, she said she didn’t call the pharmacy and she had to finish other work before she can call. At 11am, she called and then told me they were closed for that day. I waited 1.5 hour for nothing.
Describe your experience with CMD Fertility (closed).
Just to note my observation, her ultrasound machine didn’t have the feature to self record the follicle size onto the computer, she had a nurse manually write them down and then input them on the computer afterward. Once with no nurse available, I wrote down the information for her. I went to other doctors and realized their machines have the feature to self record the follicle size into the system. During the covid time, the wait was shorter. Before the covid time, the wait time ranged approx. 30 min to 1 hour 45 minutes.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Catherine DeUgarte at CMD Fertility (closed).
It is very expensive, one of the more expensive clinics in LA. After each cycle she requires follow up appointment which she charges $315 to continue the next cycle, which also mean skipping a month after each cycle. For one of my follow up appointments, the wait was 1 hour 45 minutes and the talk was less than 10 min.

Describe the specific things that went wrong at CMD Fertility (closed).
2 normal embryos implanted at the wrong time, result killing both of them. Due to her lack of skill, during the middle of ERA procedure, the doctor had her nurse ran to next door to grab another doctor to finish the procedure for her. She gave contradicting, incomplete, and inaccurate medical information. Nurse forgot to forget medication. The doctor misdiagnosed my case and cause a lot of damage to me.

Totally did not know how to deal with a DOR patient. With my AMH/FSH levels, she [Dr. DeUgarte] had me on an entirely opposite type of stim protocol than I should have been on. And when I didn’t respond, she had the audacity to tell me, a 40 year old who had just miscarried 3 weeks before my Stim cycle, that I was in menopause...
[CMD Fertility] Strengths: pretty office Weakness: competency in managing DOR stim protocols. She literally has zero clue. Not a good communicator, not clear on direction, not clear rationale...Totally did not know how to deal with a DOR patient. And when I didn’t respond, she had the audacity to tell me, a 40 year old who had just miscarried 3 weeks before my Stim cycle, that I was in menopause. I don’t know how she has a business/practice. She’s literally not good at this. Maybe for 28 year old PCOS patients only, or donor egg only, she can do it. But if you have DOR, don’t waste your time.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Catherine DeUgarte at CMD Fertility (closed)?
Don’t go if you are DOR unless you want to be aggressively pushed to use donor eggs. She’s incompetent to treat DOR women.
