This is the most recent data from the CDC. The CDC cautions that it should not be used to compare doctors and clinics. This data represents the outcomes of IVF cycles when using a person's own eggs.
For more information please see our FAQs.
Where you see a “?” on the chart, a clinic has done fewer than 20 cycles in this category and age range, so the CDC says showing percentages from this small data set would be misleading and unreliable.
Their computer system accidentally cancelled my appt. and thus I showed up as a surprise to them. Rather than rescheduling, the doctor [Dr. Check] still saw me and I had a full 2 hour work up and consult...I'm too early in to make a very clear statement but to date he has been very helpful. He has good bedside manner, is knowledgeable and caring. I liked that he was willing to think outside the box and come up with multiple options for moving forward rather than just one.
[Cooper Institute for Reproductive Hormonal Disorders] pricing is extremely reasonable...Caring but they're a tad disorganized. They have a vary skilled physician [Dr. Jerome Clark] who is well experienced with fertility. Hes afforable, thinks outside the box and is caring. His expertise outweighs the issues with his staff...Their computer system accidentally cancelled my appt. and thus I showed up as a surprise to them. They somehow cancelled my appt and weren't prepared for my arrival. They fixed things but it took a bit longer to be seen.
Dr. Check was the first doctor that didn’t make me feel like a number. He truly gave me a chance and believed in me. Even when I felt defeated. He is an out of the box thinker (and a little quirky) but so very good at what he does...I did a natural cycle with him and got pregnant my first month (after 2 years of trying IVF and IUI at other clinics)...doesnt push donor eggs like my experience with other clinics. He does things a little different and a little old school---but his methods can really work...
I was an out of state patient and was therefore did local monitoring. I communicated with Cooper staff mostly via phone after each monitoring appt and they would give me a call back once they got results. Its a little "old school" of a process but it worked and never had any issues getting a call by the end of the day while monitoring. Nurses were very responsive if I called with any questions...
How was your experience with Jerome Check at Cooper Institute for Reproductive Hormonal Disorders?
Went to Dr.Check after not having good experiences at 2 other clinics in Florida. I have DOR/low amh and I wanted to go to a doctor that specializes in it. Dr. Check was the first doctor that didn’t make me feel like a number. He truly gave me a chance and believed in me. Even when I felt defeated. He is an out of the box thinker (and a little quirky) but so very good at what he does. I’m so glad I took the chance to go out of state for care. I did a natural cycle with him and got pregnant my first month (after 2 years of trying IVF and IUI at other clinics). I’m halfway through my pregnancy and I know I have Dr check to thank for my miracle.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Jerome Check at Cooper Institute for Reproductive Hormonal Disorders?
The clinic isn't as fancy and he isn't as polished as some other RE's but he's the real deal. He doesn't care about his stats and doesnt push donor eggs like my experience with other clinics. He does things a little different and a little old school---but his methods can really work. While the other two RE's i went to pushed IVF right away, he told me he could get me pregnant without IVF and he proved those RE's and me wrong.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Jerome Check at Cooper Institute for Reproductive Hormonal Disorders?
It's a small office and staff was very warm and welcoming. I flew from Miami for my consult and I was able to get a lot of things done during my consult which was great (bloodwork, ultrasound, post coital test, etc).
Describe the protocols Jerome Check used in your cycles at Cooper Institute for Reproductive Hormonal Disorders and their degree of success.
Medicated Natural cycle--Timed Intercourse. He used intense monitoring via bloodwork and ultrasound to see what my body was naturally doing on its own and then helped it along (in my case I needed progesterone)

Its a little "old school" of a process but it worked and never had any issues getting a call by the end of the day while monitoring. I usually didnt get a hold of someone right away though
Describe your experience with Cooper Institute for Reproductive Hormonal Disorders.
The clinic isn't new or fancy/modern so that could be a con for some people. For me it wasn't. After coming from 2 very big and modern (and expensive) clinics I liked the "home" feel of Cooper institute. They are a little "old school"---not a lot of things are done electronically or via email and they dont have a portal but they usually get things done accordingly and as needed. Overall, I think they are organized and have a good system in place
Describe the costs associated with your care under Jerome Check at Cooper Institute for Reproductive Hormonal Disorders.
An estimated $1500 total cost for a natural timed intercourse cycle with Dr. Check. They have an out of state monitoring fee during TI I think it was $300 and when I got pregnant there was another monitoring fee of about $400. My insurance covered my visits which had a $50 copay and also covered the medication I needed. I also paid copays for local monitoring (ultrasound and bloodwork)---i would say $550 total with copays. I also had to pay for flying to the consult.
Describe Jerome Check's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Cooper Institute for Reproductive Hormonal Disorders.
We didnt get to try IVF therefore dont know his approach
He has a very different approach to the other two doctors I had for treatment and another doctor I had a consultation with years ago. He is quirky and funny. My husband and I went in prepared that day for possibly receiving bad news. Dr. check was completely the opposite....At our consultation they could see from ultrasound (and bloodwork confirmed the next day as well) I was about to ovulate so Dr Check went right into action; with my husband’s sample being as good as it was he took part of the sample
Jackie is excellent. She is the nurse who has done both of my post-coital tests. It is her or Tabatha or Kathy who have called me in the afternoon to discuss my blood work results and give me further instructions.... Strengths [Cooper Institute]: thinking outside the box and getting to really know you. Bloodwork Weaknesses: no patient portal to see results. Not much contact with Dr Check directly after initial consultation, at least for us with our 2 natural cycles. He commonly prescribes Adderral and much higher does of progesterone
How was your experience with Jerome Check at Cooper Institute for Reproductive Hormonal Disorders?
Going into this appointment being our third doctor in 10 months and several failed or incomplete IVF cycles, he gave us much more hope in ourselves than we ever imagined having at this point. our unexplained diagnosis turning into diminished ovarian reserve and my numbers changing in the last few months and turning 38, we were prepared to talk about if we should move onto donor eggs and not even try IVF with him or thinking we could try a cycle of IVF with him since he is less expensive and then donor eggs if needed. He was extremely comforting and telling us that he has helped many couples in that specific area become pregnant on their own without IVF or donor eggs. He has a very different approach to the other two doctors I had for treatment and another doctor I had a consultation with years ago. He is quirky and funny. My husband and I went in prepared that day for possibly receiving bad news. Dr. check was completely the opposite. It is only a month since we started there so it’s too soon to tell if our renewed accurate or not. But he handed us articles as certain topics came up in our discussion and he showed us other foot notes on his desk of studies that he has conducted. He seems extremely knowledgeable.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Jerome Check at Cooper Institute for Reproductive Hormonal Disorders?
Be prepared to be there for 2 to 3 hours at your first appointment, for male to give semen analysis and receive results back while there that day, female exam, bloodwork and ultrasound done as well, which his staff will advise you of when you make the appointment. Out of four consults we’ve had in our life for Ivf and infertility treatments this was definitely the most comprehensive.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Jerome Check at Cooper Institute for Reproductive Hormonal Disorders?
At the consultation he does not want to see records from other doctors; he wants to hear from you directly and ask you questions. We were at our consultation for 3 1/2 hours we left that day with a completely different outlook that what we had from our last failed IVF cycle at another clinic.
Describe the protocols Jerome Check used in your cycles at Cooper Institute for Reproductive Hormonal Disorders and their degree of success.
At our consultation they could see from ultrasound (and bloodwork confirmed the next day as well) I was about to ovulate so Dr Check went right into action; with my husband’s sample being as good as it was he took part of the sample and he did an inter-cervical insemination. He explained and I have never heard this before even though I’ve had four IUIs in my life that the sperm can live longer in your cervix then when they do an IUI. With an IUI they wash the sperm, which I was familiar with that term. The washed sperm can only live for four hours, not a few days like when you have relations naturally. This was very exciting leaving our consultation with a plan in place and started. I went back the next day for a post-coital test, which I had read about years ago in a book but never had any other fertility dr say they used this method of testing. The nurse could see the next morning that the sperm were alive and swimming fast in my cervical mucus. They let me look under the microwave too and it was incredible. I then went back a couple days later to make sure that the follicle size had decreased and that I had ovulated also having blood work taken and started progesterone suppositories and pill. He also prescribed Adderall at my consultation he explained about how this can help with implantation and other factors. I was a little surprised by this medication recommendation and how it would make me feel, but I was willing to try it and I haven’t had any major side effects. I did not become pregnant the first cycle. We are repeating a natural cycle right now before deciding if we will try more natural cycle with monitoring or move to IVF

Strengths: thinking outside the box and getting to really know you. Bloodwork
Weaknesses: no patient portal to see results. Not much contact with Dr Check directly after initial consultation, at least for us with our 2 natural cycles. He commonly prescribes Adderral and much higher does of progesterone than I was given by other 2 clinics. Offers a donor egg share program.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Jerome Check at Cooper Institute for Reproductive Hormonal Disorders.
Our 2 months of natural cycle monitoring are covered and being billed to insurance. We are responsible for copays. I guess it qualifies as diagnostic. If we continue natural cycle monitoring it will be $1600 for bloodwork and ultrasound package. If we do IVF it will be about $5-6,000 for whole process -retrieval and transfer, including anesthesia. Meds are covered.
Describe Jerome Check's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Cooper Institute for Reproductive Hormonal Disorders.
We really didn’t discuss the details of IVF and transfers. Dr Check did sound like he does not feel that genetic testing is necessary in our case or worth the cost.
He [Dr. Check] is a great physician. He has a lot of research studies he has performed to back the reasons he does the treatments he does. You do not have to wait long for blood work and ultrasounds. Explains everything!... You do not see him every visit but the visits are quick and nurses will call you after.... My first cycle I was overstimmed from previous doctor so we did birth control. Then, we saw what my body did and I did ovulate on my own and we did progesterone supplementation after ovulation. This resulted in chemical pregnancy.
The nurses [Cooper Institute] were great. I mainly worked with the regular nurses. I really appreciated Tabitha and Jackie’s thoroughness and quick calls back. Kathy was very very compassionate.... The prices were great. You do have to pay for monitoring if your insurance does not cover it but for IVF their prices are the best in the area/... When you go for ultrasound and blood work you do not see a doctor or nurse which has its pros and cons. You are in and out but you do not know your plan until later in the day when the nurses call you. Treatment is individualized which is great!

Describe Jerome Check's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Cooper Institute for Reproductive Hormonal Disorders.
Dr check is an unconventional dr who definitely does old school testing to try to get to the root of the problem. I do appreciate that but sometimes I think there can be other issues at hand which he dismisses.... We had a very lengthy first consult, I was there for 4 hours and this is partially because I have an extensive history with no real reasons showing why I cannot conceive. He provides you with tons of research articles at your visit which back up his ideas of implementing adderall, extra progesterone, and a lupron shot in the luteal phase
Be prepared to have very old school communication via faxes to get scripts..etc because they [Cooper Institute] don't use email.... I did out of town monitoring and you need to leave messages every time you get blood or ultra sound done with 2 different phone lines or fax them a sheet. If you want to speak to a nurse you need to leave a message and pray they call you back that same day, once or twice they didn't. You just really need to be on top of everything
How was your experience with Jerome Check at Cooper Institute for Reproductive Hormonal Disorders?
Dr check is an unconventional dr who definitely does old school testing to try to get to the root of the problem. I do appreciate that but sometimes I think there can be other issues at hand which he dismisses. Prior to dr Check I was seeing a reproductive immunologist who found some immune issues. I did not have success with that dr however brought up these immune issues. Dr check didnt really believe in them and believes adderall will cover all immune issues. We had a very lengthy first consult, I was there for 4 hours and this is partially because I have an extensive history with no real reasons showing why I cannot conceive. He provides you with tons of research articles at your visit which back up his ideas of implementing adderall, extra progesterone, and a lupron shot in the luteal phase of your dr. I do appreciate how research oriented he is but at the same time he did not seem open minded to other tests I have done such as the EFT, ERA, immune testing...etc He also wants to save you money which I appreciate so he initially likes to get you pregnant using timed intercourse on his protocol. I never conceived naturally in the 7 years I have been trying and my husband has a balanced translocation. However I do know other patients that got pregnant with that issue so I figured it cant hurt to try for a few months because prior to him I was doing very intense immune treatments with another dr so can use a break. Ive done 2 cycles so far and no luck yet however they found my progesterone was on the low side despite all the suppositories and oral meds I was on. I am trying to avoid PIO because I got nerve damage from it during a transfer cycle. I will be meeting with him again in a few weeks to talk about my case again and see if he has other ideas. He seems very knowledgeable but he is somewhat scattered and goes off on tangents during the consult. This was frustrating to me because I kept feeling like I had to refocus him. However because I personally know a few women who had success with him after so many failures with IVF I figured it cant hurt to try.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Jerome Check at Cooper Institute for Reproductive Hormonal Disorders?
Be prepared to get lots of research backing up his ideas however all this research he did himself. Be prepared to have very old school communication via faxes to get scripts..etc because they don't use email. He also records your consult via tape recorder so you can get that to refer back to. You need to be on top of everything at this clinic. There is also a somewhat long wait to see this dr in person.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Jerome Check at Cooper Institute for Reproductive Hormonal Disorders?
I am doing out of town monitoring with this doctor because I live in NY and he is located in NJ. However I did need to go there several times for endometrial scratch, consult, post coital test...etc The clinic itself makes you feel like a number and everything is very much outdated. You cannot email anything and everything has to be via fax. I dont feel like the nurses that call me with results remember my case because they make errors with my medications at times.
Describe the protocols Jerome Check used in your cycles at Cooper Institute for Reproductive Hormonal Disorders and their degree of success.
Like I mentioned, Dr check likes to try to get you pregnant naturally eventhough you never conceived naturally before and have had many failed transfers with PGD tested embryos. He doesnt believe in using letrozole or clomid if you can make an egg on your own. He has you do a scan to make sure you released an egg and then another scan to ensure your lining thickened appropriately. He does a post coital test to ensure your husbands sperm still survives in your cervix 24 hours after intercourse. He puts you on adderall to control inflammation and other issues and uses extra progesterone and one lupron shot during luteal phase.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at Cooper Institute for Reproductive Hormonal Disorders.
There are a few nurses who you deal with and depending on who gets your results first, that nurse will call you with results. My medication protocols got confused at times because not all nurses communicated well with each other. You also need to be on top of them to get results in a timely manner. I found this all very stressful. Ive worked with so many clinics and I never had to be so on top of everything like this before but I was willing to try since I heard some amazing success stories. Jackie is the most compassionate nurse, Tabatha and Kathy tend to rush you on the phone and seem annoyed if you have too many questions.
Describe your experience with Cooper Institute for Reproductive Hormonal Disorders.
Everything is very old school like I mentioned before. I did out of town monitoring and you need to leave messages every time you get blood or ultra sound done with 2 different phone lines or fax them a sheet. Dr cohen was very sweet and made me feel welcome. She answered all of my questions realistically and with a plan. She made me feel at ease about our next steps and didn’t make me feel rushed... I met with dr cohen for a consultation and then had found out that she did the egg retrieval for our eggs retrieved from a donor. This is the first time we ever had embryos to transfer so I felt grateful to have that outcome!... We were allowed to transfer our two best embryos at once. We ultimately had a chemical.
I can say that I have gotten some conflicting information from the nursing staff [Cooper Institute]. Since I am an out of town patient. I have to get scripts for my bloodwork and ultrasounds. Some nurses are happy to email them to me and some are adamant about faxing them. Which I don’t have access to a fax so sometimes I use my work fax or have to have them sent to the hospital.... Cooper is very transparent with their pricing since they have a list on their website.

I have mostly dealt with Jessie who is absolutely an angel. I hate to call her out like that, it’s like I’m letting out a good secret but she deserves every bit of recognition. I can’t imagine all the times I bugged her with random questions. But each time she made me feel better and made things so much easier. She is a gem there.

He [Dr. Check] will listen to all your questions and tell you point blank what he agrees with and disagrees with. ... How was your experience with Jerome Check at Cooper Institute for Reproductive Hormonal Disorders?
He is a little quirky but in an intelligent mad-scientist kind of way. He knows so much about reproductive endocrinology and isn’t afraid to do things out of the norm if he has strong convictions about his course of action. He is considered a pioneer in his field but is often criticized but others in the infertility field and OB-GYNs because he is unconventional. That said, he has a reputation for being one of the best infertility doctors in the world. People travel from all over the world to see him. He doesn’t care about the money and refuses to take a salary so that he doesn’t have to be beholden to a quota system. He will listen to all your questions and tell you point blank what he agrees with and disagrees with. If you have an unusual case he will work hard at trying to solve the problem that other doctors have failed to solve.

Trust him. He is a wise and experienced man. If you let him do his magic he will get you pregnant.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Jerome Check at Cooper Institute for Reproductive Hormonal Disorders?
He is kind and very intelligent. He works really hard and smart to get people pregnant. He treats not only from evidence-based information but also anecdotal evidence. He cares a lot about helping people rather than making money.
Describe the protocols Jerome Check used in your cycles at Cooper Institute for Reproductive Hormonal Disorders and their degree of success.
I don’t remember the name of my protocol for frozen embryo transfer. He used high doses of progesterone in oil, progesterone suppositories and oral progesterone. He also used Adderall to combat inflammation associated with my endometriosis. I had 2 frozen embryo transfers with another clinic and both times had severe cramping within 10 minutes of my embryo transfers which I believe to be the reason neither of them resulted in a pregnancy. Dr. Check agreed with that theory. Dr. Check gave me Adderall and Valium before my embryo transfer and I had no cramping.
Describe your experience with your nurse at Cooper Institute for Reproductive Hormonal Disorders. (Assigned nurse: Karen)
The IVF nurses are not nice or caring at all. They don’t hold your hand or help explain things in detail. When you ask questions they act like you are a nuisance. They make you feel very uncomfortable. The pregnancy nurses are the complete opposite. They are very warm and caring.

The IVF nurses need a serious attitude adjustment but the pregnancy nurses are sweet as anything. The exam rooms are outdated and feel dirty because they are carpeted. The whole office has an old-school vibe about it. Probably because Dr. Check is in his 70s and doesn’t like to adjust to all the new technology. It’s something to know when you go there for the first time so you’re not thrown off. It’s all easy to forgive because Dr. Check is so amazing.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Jerome Check at Cooper Institute for Reproductive Hormonal Disorders.
I have done one frozen embryo transfer and the cost was around $3,000. When I told them my previous clinic charged less they gave me a discount
Describe Jerome Check's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Cooper Institute for Reproductive Hormonal Disorders.
We had 1 PGS normal embryo remaining and 1 PGS mosaic embryo remaining. He suggested we transfer only the normal embryo to play it safe since mosaics have a higher rate of miscarriage and he didn’t want to jeopardize the pregnancy if I became pregnant with twins. We decided to transfer both embryos against his advice. I became pregnant with one baby and it turned out to be the mosaic embryo. She later tested completely normal from an amniocentesis which means Dr. Check’s theory that mosaic embryos self-correct was right.

Describe the specific things that went wrong at Cooper Institute for Reproductive Hormonal Disorders.
I was given a different due date twice from the staff. Probably because they typically transfer day-3 embryos and I brought Day-5 embryos over from another clinic. Also the IVF nurses aren’t very responsive and failed to call in a prescription for me once and I had to call to remind them. They also have forgotten to call with results of my bloodwork related to my thyroid levels a couple of times
I’ve been lucky to employ his [Dr. Chang] expertise to examine my tubes, perform my bilateral salpingectomy and hysteroscopic D&C, and do a sonohystogram all prior to my first IVF FET cycle in progress now. ... He is very detailed and respects when you come with your roster of questions for him to answer/advise on. He is a positive doctor to be around when you are feeling down and explains every step of any procedure prior (or during if you are awake) so that your nerves are calmed.
Strengths: they’ve [Cooper Inst for Repro Hormonal Disorders] got a system in place, and that makes it easy to work with your planning and keeping stress low. Also, this is not a one-size-fits-all clinic. Personalized approach to every situation. Weaknesses: no electronic patient portal/profiles, so you won’t have access to your own file/info at your fingertips. ... I’m doing PGS, so Dr. Chang does not recommend transferring more than 1 embryo for my personalized plan.

Some may be deterred by his social quirkiness, but I am here for it! I believe it takes eccentric doctors to really have a passion for the intricate work they do. This clinic takes patients who have had failures multiple times elsewhere, and helps them achieve more through alternator approaches. So I’m glad I was paired with him for many of my steps to IVF.
Dr. Chang will give you his number post-operations and be available for any concern you may have. He’s also done my monitoring callbacks to give instructions on stimulation before, which was nice because it’s usually IVF nurses who do that. He cares and tries to make time where he can.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Eric Chang at Cooper Institute for Reproductive Hormonal Disorders?
Take notes and be prepared with your questions. He will not read your mind, but will be as broad in his education as possible if you don’t speak up and advocate for yourself.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Eric Chang at Cooper Institute for Reproductive Hormonal Disorders?
Dr. Chang reviews and studies your results and details before having a conversation or advising on next steps. I’ve been lucky to employ his expertise to examine my tubes, perform my bilateral salpingectomy and hysteroscopic D&C, and do a sonohystogram all prior to my first IVF FET cycle in progress now.
He’s always made himself available for any questions or explanations and is very clear, factual, and sympathetic in his delivery.
Describe the protocols Eric Chang used in your cycles at Cooper Institute for Reproductive Hormonal Disorders and their degree of success.
Dr. Chang has me on a Long Lupron protocol beginning day 21 of my cycle prior to IVF stims because I’m 32 with a 3.5 AMH. He lowered my dosages over the last few days and had the nurses closely monitor me into my upcoming egg retrieval. I have OHSS, but had I been on another protocol, it’d probably be worse.
Describe your experience with Cooper Institute for Reproductive Hormonal Disorders.
Strengths: they’ve got a system in place, and that makes it easy to work with your planning and keeping stress low. Also, this is not a one-size-fits-all clinic. Personalized approach to every situation.
Weaknesses: no electronic patient portal/profiles, so you won’t have access to your own file/info at your fingertips.
Describe Eric Chang's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Cooper Institute for Reproductive Hormonal Disorders.
I’m doing PGS, so Dr. Chang does not recommend transferring more than 1 embryo for my personalized plan. He does say in rare circumstances where there have been miscarriages or it’s an older woman, there may be reason to transfer 2.
He [Dr. Chang] is very genuine, factual, thorough, educational, answers questions, gives medical guidance and sound advice to make appropriate medical decisions. He treats you like he wants you to have a family and is going to help you get there.... He is a professional who cares and is in his profession to help women become a mother.... educated, compassionate, trustworthy, informative, will answer questions, thorough, knowledgeable, is interested in giving you the information needed to make a good choice to achieve pregnancy
The founding doctor is the clinic's [Cooper Institute] greatest strength. The other doctors are it's strength. However, the operations of the clinic is it's weakness. The clinic's back office staff are not organized, communicative, honest, caring, or assigned to a particular patient and they do not follow up or through on any form of communication. It seems that patient files are not electronic and no one ever has your file in front of them when they speak

It is too early. I am at preliminary stages of care and not at treatment yet.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at Cooper Institute for Reproductive Hormonal Disorders.
I have not done treatments yet. The nurses I have spoken to on the phone, I would say 1 has been thorough, helpful, empathetic, and helpful in answering questions and getting me to the next step. Many other nurses told me things about trying to obtain a medication that were not true. I had gotten a prescription and the specialty pharmacy the clinic gave me said the med was unavailable indefinitely. I called 50 pharmacy's nationwide and they all said the same thing. The nurses said other patients got the med. So I felt like they were just giving me the run around. I have to say that after 3 months of me trying to get the med, finally one nurse place a call to the same specialty pharmacy I spoke with and they said the drug was now available. I was so distraught, I gave up on that form of treatment. I had wasted 3 to 4 months chasing a ghost. So, I don't really understand the nurses.

Technology and training are needed and maybe some people who treat customers with disrespect hanging up on them should look for another line of work.

Describe the specific things that went wrong at Cooper Institute for Reproductive Hormonal Disorders.
I explained everything in the prior questions. The doctors are great. The operations of the business needs to be changed and improved.
Dr. Check is very thorough and talked to us for hours at our consult. I really enjoyed his perspective and he did a lot of work for us even on that first day....I left excited to try some new things. He is not only very smart but he is funny and made us comfortable.... Dr. Check did a new semen analysis for us as well as a cervical mucus test. He also had me do an ultrasound before and after ovulation as well as one 7 days past ovulation which I thought was extremely informative to me. We just started with him but I love that they monitor so closely, and I found that my lining is very thin a week after ovulation which may shed some light into our problems.
I like the way they [Cooper Institute] move patients in and out as it cuts down on wait time. It is a large facility with a lot of people there. It looks a bit out of date but that doesn’t make a difference to me. I think the setup works well and I enjoy the fact that you get a call back after almost every visit....The only reason I didn’t give a perfect score is that some of the staff is a little rough. They don’t always speak to you in a nice way or validate your concerns. But Dr. Check himself was great.
How was your experience with Jerome Check at Cooper Institute for Reproductive Hormonal Disorders?
We have only seen him once, but we just started at this clinic about a month and a half ago. His consult was great and extremely informative. I left excited to try some new things. He is not only very smart but he is funny and made us comfortable.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Jerome Check at Cooper Institute for Reproductive Hormonal Disorders?
Don’t get discouraged if the staff seems to kind of shuffle people around. Some of the staff aren’t my favorite people but the upside of their process there is you don’t wait long which is amazing. Some people say they felt like cattle but for me running over on my lunch break, I don’t mind it because I usually am in and out very fast.

Describe the costs associated with your care under Jerome Check at Cooper Institute for Reproductive Hormonal Disorders.
For now the costs seem in line with any other clinic, but from what I have seen, the ivf prices are very reasonable. They appear to be less costly than most places I have researched.
I adore Dr. Chang. He has been a great communicator. My situation is very rare and from my research and time at other clinics before this, I do think I am at the right practice for my situation. I'm 30 with a diminished reserve, low AMH and high FSH with low LH. Dr. Chang is younger and seems to explain things better for me.... So while at this practice I have been in the care of 3 out of the 4 doctors in the practice. Dr. Check has only consulted on my case
It would be helpful is each patient had a "go-to" nurse. Here [Cooper Institute for Reproductive Hormonal Disorders], you're rotated. I can't tell you how many times the ultrasound tech asked me "only menopur?" and I had to re-explain the situation. It's taxing. Some of the nurses are sweet while others hate being there I think. When they deliver bad news, they offer condolences but no next steps. If patients were assigned to one nurse, the nurse could consult the doctor before calling the patient.

The nurses, eh. There are good ones and not so good ones. I love the girls who take my blood. Overall, the nurses could do a better job greeting people or explaining appointments, etc when new patients come to the clinic. I once "got in trouble" for having a full blatter at an ultrasound, but I had got to the bathroom. I almost bit the tech's head off (injectables! haha)
Overall, no one explained the entire process to me when I was first diagnosed. I was so overwhelmed. They could have done better job, consoling me or offering therapy options to deal with the situation.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Eric Chang at Cooper Institute for Reproductive Hormonal Disorders?
Ask for a consult with Dr. Chang or Dr. Cohen instead of Dr. Choe.
Dr. Check is very smart. He was one of the first researchers in this field, but the delivery of Dr. Chang is better than Dr. Choe from my experience.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Eric Chang at Cooper Institute for Reproductive Hormonal Disorders?
The way the waiting room is set up and ultrasounds are administered seems like a cattle call, especially in the morning before work. Many of the nurses are apathetic, but not rude. You can't call your nurse directly, you have to leave a message and someone calls you back.
Describe the protocols Eric Chang used in your cycles at Cooper Institute for Reproductive Hormonal Disorders and their degree of success.
Because of my situation, I was unable to do IUIs. My insurance wouldn't let me do IVF without having 3 failed IUIs first. The doctor advocated for me by writing a letter. After that, we tried a combo of Menopur and Follistem injections. I created 2 eggs which were retrieved but did not fertilize. The next month, we only did Menopur. I created ovarian cysts. The following month, Dr. Chang increased the amount of Menopur I was taking. I created 4 eggs, 2 were retrieved. 1 fertilized and did not implant.

Describe your experience with Cooper Institute for Reproductive Hormonal Disorders.
Strengths - The lead doctor is backed by knowledge and proof. He has been researching and writing white pages on fertility treatments for decades. The practice is a boutique firm handling the most unique cases. My Primary Care Physician speaks highly of the practices. The Younger doctors in the practice have good bedside manner.
Weaknesses - Staff is sometimes not the most polite.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Eric Chang at Cooper Institute for Reproductive Hormonal Disorders.
The IVF cycle out of pocket expense cost us about $6000-$7000 each time. The first cycle, our meds were covered by insurance. At that point we met the "lifetime" max for meds. Which is funny. The actually IVF is covered, but the meds to get me there aren't. Menopur is approximately $80 per vial (I have a great pharmacist!) but I will be taking 4 vials day to stim - and that does not include the gonal or other meds like the premarin/provera to bring on my period to even start the cycle. Plus estrogen, endometrium, etc.
Describe Eric Chang's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Cooper Institute for Reproductive Hormonal Disorders.
The embryologist at this location is great. She always explains things in lames terms to us. With that said, I have never had the opportunity to transfer more than 1 embryo and cannot comment on that.
What specific things went wrong at Cooper Institute for Reproductive Hormonal Disorders?
Failed to call in prescriptions to pharmacy
Failed to consider drug intolerance
Describe the specific things that went wrong at Cooper Institute for Reproductive Hormonal Disorders.
During my second IVF, I created cists and not eggs. The office put me on a birth control that was awful. I broke out in awful eczema and my face swelled pretty badly. I believe it was an allergic reaction to this pill.
He [Dr. Check] was very kind, very understanding of what we wanted in our procedure in starting a family... Me and my wife loved how he explained everything and was compassionate and kind, he also told us they have a program that would help us with the finances which was a big concern for us! We got accepted I tot he donor egg program where my wife will give 1/2 her eggs to a woman in need and in return the cooper institute will pay for our IVF procedure.
They [Cooper Institute] are very busy all the time, sometimes I can catch the coordinator or a nurse and sometimes I leave a message but they usually get back to me very quickly. They do make you feel at home like it’s all in good hands and put your trust in them and keep hope. So they do make you feel good going to them. They are understandable and very patient... my wife went into the donor egg program where they would pay for our treatment if my wife donates 1/2 her eggs chosen by a recipient

We waited 6 months out finally got chosen but the woman backed out and my wife got put back on the waiting list. The doctor did tell us this is a possibility, so we were aware that this could happen, but now we have hope somebody chooses my wife again and goes through with their procedure which will help us with having our own family one day
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Jerome Check at Cooper Institute for Reproductive Hormonal Disorders?

Describe Jerome Check's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Cooper Institute for Reproductive Hormonal Disorders.
He did have a strong approach towards 1 embryo 5 day transfer, but I wanted 2 embryo 3 day to be transferred Incase I lost one chance I had another.
Dr Jerome check is Down to earth, honest , gives all treatment options , make you feel very hopeful no matter what treatment you decide , he is nonjudgmental. Is willing to treat any one no matter the age or issue... I did mini stim with gonal 75-150 mg daily plus menopur 75-150 mg, adderal 15 mg cr, Im progesterone 2 cc, vaginal progesterone bid ganirelex to stop ovulation! This resulted in my live child Protocols now are natural with added Injectables for iui so about day 8 adding in gonal or follistim

Discrepancy in my protocol when I called ! This was handled by dr check personally taking over my case and him calling me with my next dosage and instructions, which made me so happy how he handled the situation
Dr. Jerome Check is definitely a doctor I can recommend and can trust his words 100%. He is a very positive and caring doctor, he takes his time explaining everything throughoutly and can leave his clinic feeling positive and at peace.... I used injections, suppositories and oral medications. Letrazole to make me ovulate, side effects only pain in Breast, nothing major. Hcg injections, mophur, no side effects. And vaginal suppositories which are progesterones in case pregnancy took place it’ll help the uterus wall to sustain pregnancy if conceived. No side affects on suppositories.
The clinic itself [Cooper Institute] is excellent nurses and doctors are great and very thorough which is what you want when you are going through this type of process. In my experience I can’t complaint about this clinic overall, everyone from doctors to front desk ladies are really nice and helpful. They always call you on time to give you results and to Inform you about your next step. They positive attitude keeps you going and that’s so important to us the patients.

Stay positive and hopeful as I am. This is not an easy process but have faith that one day it’ll happen.

I felt like i was treated as a human because from nurses to doctors showed that they care for their patients and work along with them. Dr. Check and Dr. Choe show good side bed manners, you have questions or concerns they take their time to explain everything thoroughly. They make me feel comfortable and loved because they know this is not an easy path some of us go through trying to bring a baby in to ourlives. I love when I hear them say stay positive, have faith and don’t give up because we won’t on you. To me all those kind works means the world. I’ve been going through inferility treatments for over 7 years sometimes you do feel like giving up but something in my heart tells me not too. Hopefully one day my dream will come true which is to become a mother.

Dr. Check has Friday night consults and makes home calls. He will sit with you for 1-2 hours to discuss your options and your feelings/opinions on treatment in extreme detail. He will try old-fashioned and "outside the box" methods and tests when the typical methods prove unsuccessful....With the 2nd cycle, they performed a postcoital test which showed mostly dead sperm.... He added Mucinex to correct this, followed by another PC test which showed completely opposite and excellent results
The nursing staff [Cooper Inst] can be somewhat off-putting in person depending on the day. However, they are always available via phone to answer questions. When calling with blood results, they give you the specific levels each time and explain them, which is wonderful!... The clinic is very old-fashioned and disorganized in its methods which seems off-putting at first. Everything is mainly paper-based, you have to fill out forms every time, and you have to get used to their way of doing things. The PA office has short hours and so trips to the NJ office are necessary sometimes which can be a pain.
How was your experience with Jerome Check at Cooper Institute for Reproductive Hormonal Disorders?
Dr. Check is compassionate and thorough. He looked at our prior experience and tests and developed a specific, individualized plan. He monitors very often to ensure that he truly understands your cycle and its patterns, strengths, and downfalls. He performed tests such as the postcoital and identified problems that had never been considered in our prior experiences with othet clinics. In consults, he is aware of your individual struggles and history because he takes the time to know and understand you. He also communicates with his staff often and adjusts the plan as you go along. He listens to your concerns and takes them seriously.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Jerome Check at Cooper Institute for Reproductive Hormonal Disorders?
Understand that while his methods seem a bit outdated and crazy, he cares about each individual person and will literally try anything within the realm of fertility care to get you pregnant.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Jerome Check at Cooper Institute for Reproductive Hormonal Disorders?
Dr. Check has Friday night consults and makes home calls. He will sit with you for 1-2 hours to discuss your options and your feelings/opinions on treatment in extreme detail. He will try old-fashioned and "outside the box" methods and tests when the typical methods prove unsuccessful. For instance, he performed a postcoital test on us. Some clinics may call this outdated, but it shed light on our situation by revealing that my body may have been killing my husband's sperm all along. He's very anti-establishment and realistic and cares deeply about his patients' well-being.
Describe the protocols Jerome Check used in your cycles at Cooper Institute for Reproductive Hormonal Disorders and their degree of success.
Dr. Check immediately ruled out Clomid and Letrozole due to the fact that it can cause more problems than solutions. He also showed us that IUI success rates are not actually great for our situation since we had good sperm analysis results. He opted to have us try "natural cycles" with timed intercourse and progesterone. With the 1st cycle, he monitored so closely that they increased progesterone to ensure that my lining was perfect. With the 2nd cycle, they performed a postcoital test which showed mostly dead sperm. He added Mucinex to correct this, followed by another PC test which showed completely opposite and excellent results, meaning that my cervical mucus may have been the problem all along and that the Mucinex had thinned it out to allow sperm to pass through more easily and live longer. He also prescribed a Lupron injection each month along with an endometrial scratch to improve implantation conditions, as he believed this may also be the problem. In later cycles, he added more progesterone to hopefully improve things, and we had a chemical pregnancy on our 5th cycle with him. He also added Adderall on the 5th cycle on the chance that it can control "natural killer cells" which sometimes inhibit implantation. He showed us and explained the research for each treatment along the way. Though we still are not pregnant, he is fine tuning things and getting closer to identifying the underlying issues.

Dr. Check is a unique, eccentric, well-established, knowledgeable, highly recommended man. ..He started me on adderall, bloodwork, post coidal testing and ultrasound monitoring. First month just didnt happen. Second month egg showed not a good cycle thru bloodwork, call when you get your period. 3rd cycle ovulated way too soon (day 4) we still tried to make this cycle work but no go. 4th cycle started on ethanol estradiol for 10 days to suppress FSH, too high at start of cycle, then follistim once released,

He started me on adderall, bloodwork, post coidal testing and ultrasound monitoring. First month just didnt happen. Second month egg showed not a good cycle thru bloodwork, call when you get your period. 3rd cycle ovulated way too soon (day 4) we still tried to make this cycle work but no go. 4th cycle started on ethanol estradiol for 10 days to suppress FSH, too high at start of cycle, then follistim once released, estrogen and progesterone vaginal suppositories 2x a day. 5th cycle same as 4th but with added progesterone oil injections then with negative preg test - endometrial scratch. 6th cycle same as 5th cycle also did another endometrial scratch- this time it hurt so bad i told them i would never get that procedure done again. Currently just about to end 7th cycle- doesnt look like it will end in a positive pregnancy test.

I believe I paid over $ 9,000.
Describe Jerome Check's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Cooper Institute for Reproductive Hormonal Disorders.
Because of my low/declining AMH and lack of insurance coverage, I was put on on mini-ivf [by Dr. Jerome Check[, so my protocol consisted of lower doses of fertility drugs.... only 5 mature eggs were retrieved of the 14+ measurable follicles I had. After a disappointing egg retrieval, we went forward with a second cycle. Again, due to poor communication, (it took me 3 days of calling the clinic to get someone to call me back) I started the second cycle late and missed out on the first couple of days of stimulation. The second round we had less follicles and retrieved 6 mature eggs. Not successful for a healthy 30 year old.
While I was cycling [at the Cooper Institute] the nurses would call me back the same day of my monitoring to advise of any dosage changes and results. I was unable to communicate with them via email, which I would have preferred. My biggest issue was the lack of communication at the start of my second cycle.... The biggest strength of this clinic is the costs. Weaknesses are absolutely poor communication.
How was your experience with Jerome Check at Cooper Institute for Reproductive Hormonal Disorders?
Jerome Check is a peculiar man but seems to be very knowledgeable about infertility research. He does not nickle and dime his patients which I thoroughly appreciated. It is not easy to follow his train of thought but he does not rush his patients. I do think he cares about his patients but that does not translate to elevated care. The ONLY pros to seeing Dr. Check is 1) Cost and 2) knowledge of research.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Jerome Check at Cooper Institute for Reproductive Hormonal Disorders?
Personally speak to all parties involved in your treatment BEFORE all procedures take place. Do not assume that the communication you expect to take place among your caregivers will happen without your intervention. Being your own advocate is not enough.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Jerome Check at Cooper Institute for Reproductive Hormonal Disorders?
My medical case is very unique but I was treated as a "normal" patient.
Describe the protocols Jerome Check used in your cycles at Cooper Institute for Reproductive Hormonal Disorders and their degree of success.
Because of my low/declining AMH and lack of insurance coverage, I was put on on mini-ivf, so my protocol consisted of lower doses of fertility drugs. Looking back, I am not confident that this was the right approach and if the Dr. had looked deeper into my overall health, I think he would have prescribed a different protocol. If Dr. Cho had been informed about my special case and adequately performed the egg retrieval, I would have been satisfied with the results, but due to lack of communication, only 5 mature eggs were retrieved of the 14+ measurable follicles I had. After a disappointing egg retrieval, we went forward with a second cycle. Again, due to poor communication, (it took me 3 days of calling the clinic to get someone to call me back) I started the second cycle late and missed out on the first couple of days of stimulation. Describe the specific things that went wrong at Cooper Institute for Reproductive Hormonal Disorders.
Dr. Check did not inform Dr. Cho of my unique medical history which resulted in an unsuccessful cycle.
Since I was advanced maternal age, Dr. Check told me on my first visit that I should choose donor egg for my cycles. I was already doing donor sperm, and if my objective was to have a child, donor egg would give me the best shot. I used injectable Gonal F, Estrogen suppositories and tablets, injections of progesterone...Dr. Check was blunt and honest, which is exactly what I wanted. He told me exactly what to expect and how to proceed if I chose to move forward. He discussed the probability of conceiving and the procedure for fertilization and meds to help me conceive. After the initial visit, I did not see him again.
Dr. Check's egg donation supervisor (Fran) was fabulous. She was very concerned about things going forward and we became familiar with each other. She knew the personal struggles I was having and tried to make the process as easy as possible. She left the clinic shortly after I delivered...The clinic was well organized and made the procedure easy. They recommended a local hotel to stay in after the procedure which provided transportation. The distance to travel was far for someone traveling alone.

Dr. Check’s work ethic and personality made him a great fit for us. We needed to smile, but also needed direction with a plan. The staff there are world class, and adore Dr, Check was well. I recommend him to anyone willing to listen!...Letrozole prior to IUI for 5 days ( I think to speed up follicle growth as my cycles were very long)... [Dr. Jerome Check] specialized in premature ovarian failure and he was one that looked at my numbers and didnt go right to donor eggs. He actually gave me hope and faith in conceiving and actually knew how to treat this terrible disease...Ethinyl estrodial which tremendously reduces my fsh and adjusted my hormones so that I would ovulate! Once my numbers got down they would put me on clomid or menopur or follistim injections to grow my follicles and then hcg trigger to release the egg.
Front desk staff [at Copper Institute for Reproductive Hormonal Disorders] was not the friendliest but the nurses made up for it. It was easy to get appts and they took you back pretty fast so u didnt have to wait long...I felt like a human being here and they didnt just get me in and out. Dr. Check can seem like an oddball. He is socially awkward and very brainy, but the care that I received at Cooper was wonderful. The nurses took time with me and never made the feel rushed. Everyone was warm and accommodating. Dr. Check was committed to finding out what was wrong and fixing it. If something was unsuccessful, it was evaluated and a new plan of action was created. I felt like everything was explained to me in a digestible manner.
I have been thrilled with the nurses at Dr. Check's office [Cooper Institute], both in New Jersey and Melrose Park, PA. I was disappointed to see that one of the ultrasound techs had recently retired because she felt like family by the time I graduated to my OBGYN.... My IVF with Dr. Check was significantly less expensive than all other clinics that I researched (less than $5,000, including medicines).

Doctor Jerome was compassionate and very understanding of my health and financial situation. But I wish he can communicate more clearly and look at risk factors more closely for each patient. I had success with him but since I was doing natural cycle, he should have looked more closely into my tubes and encouraged me for an HSG...All of my cycles I used ethinyl estradiol and provera/prometrium and regular monitoring.
