This is the most recent data from the CDC. The CDC cautions that it should not be used to compare doctors and clinics. This data represents the outcomes of IVF cycles when using a person's own eggs.
For more information please see our FAQs.
Where you see a “?” on the chart, a clinic has done fewer than 20 cycles in this category and age range, so the CDC says showing percentages from this small data set would be misleading and unreliable.

What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Samuel Wood at Gen 5 Fertility Center?
Ask all your questions when he’s in the room because he is available and listening.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Samuel Wood at Gen 5 Fertility Center?
I received care at Gen 5 from Dr Wood after interviewing four different infertility clinics and REIs. I started care in my home state and ended up switching to Dr Wood after a failed cycle and we chose to travel to San Diego rather than stay in state. Dr Wood treated me with respect, kindness and he never brought up my age as a barrier, unlike other clinics and physicians. Dr Wood made me feel hopeful that we’d have a growing family and he offered creative solutions to help us achieve this goal. I cannot speak highly enough of Dr Wood and Gen 5; everyone from the phlebotomist, the receptionist, the director of embryology, my nurse care coordinator to the medical assistant and financial counselor, everyone was outstanding and provided exceptional care. My nurse care coordinator was gentle and responded to my needs with grace; I wasn’t an “easy patient” due to high anxiety and significant history of loss. My complicating infertility factors required developing a protocol that was individualized rather than prescribing the highest dose of medication. Dr Wood listened and developed a protocol that produced a higher yield of eggs yet didn’t compromise quality like my previous experience with IVF. While the journey to get here wasn’t easy, three years later, we have a beautiful family and two children whom Dr Wood helped bring into this world. If you are thinking of traveling out of state to see Dr Wood I highly recommend him and Gen 5, you will get the best care and feel like you are important and care for.
Describe your experience with your nurse at Gen 5 Fertility Center. (Assigned nurse: Melissa A)
Melissa is kind, attentive and thorough. She provided extra attention to me when I needed it and she understood how difficult my journey to have children has been.
Describe your experience with Gen 5 Fertility Center.
The clinic is easy to get to, even for an out of state patient. The clinic staff are friendly and compassionate. I rarely had to wait for an appointment or blood draw. I received email responses in a timely fashion. The financial counselor was helpful and provided me with what I needed.
Describe Samuel Wood's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Gen 5 Fertility Center.
Dr Wood encourages transfer of one embryo that is euploid.
Dr. Wood is warm, kind and caring. He has a calming demeanor that decreased my stress. Dr. Wood was very patient and he also performed every ultrasound...took his time answering my questions and reassuring me throughout my cycle. He customized my cycle and explained all the reasons to me in detail...never rushed through our appointments...we truly felt listened to and cared for...we had success our first time with Dr. Wood
We could not be more happy with Gen5 (and the beautiful twin babies they helped us bring into this world)...Our IVF coordinator, Melissa, went above and beyond in providing guidance, compassion, answering questions, and making us feel like a part of the Gen5 family. The staff was friendly, positive, and encouraging, and brought us a sense of peace at every visit...they customize their protocols for each patient to maximize your success. They also have outstanding embryologists.

Our IVF journey took us five years, through three clinics in as many states, and it wasn’t until we met Dr. Wood and his amazing staff that we truly felt listened to and cared for. Dr. Wood crafted a plan for procedure tailored to our circumstances, and in March of 2023 his impeccable knowledge, dedication, and professionalism all coalesced to bring about a successful end to our journey. We could not be more happy with Gen5 (and the beautiful twin babies they helped us bring into this world). Dr. Wood always took time to answer our questions and never rushed through our appointments. Our IVF coordinator, Melissa, went above and beyond in providing guidance, compassion, answering questions, and making us feel like a part of the Gen5 family. After flying across the country multiple times to and from Gen5, we knew we were in good hands and always felt comfortable and cared for. The staff was friendly, positive, and encouraging, and brought us a sense of peace at every visit. Thank you, Gen5, for making our dreams of a family realized!

Describe your experience with Gen 5 Fertility Center.
Their strengths are being successful. I had multiple failed cycles at three other centers, but we had success our first time with Dr. Wood,. they customize their protocols for each patient to maximize your success. They also have outstanding embryologists.
Dr. Wood was very direct in his communication...He was extremely black and white with his judgments on certain treatments (like laparoscopic surgery or lupron depot induced menopause). I would have preferred more data behind these claims...Dr. Wood shared that the most successful IVF transfers are from natural cycles (i.e. no stims at all) so he does the minimum to keep egg quality at its peak
Strengths [of Gen 5 Fertility Center] - this doctor has the most experience in the US with Ovarian PRP and is an expert in managing DOR Weaknesses - the communication from the scheduling and nursing staff left much to be desired, the finance team was not familiar with working with insurance (we had Aetna), the cost of the treatments here compared to other clinics was high (and part of what you pay for is the view.. via a $1500 facility fee)
How was your experience with Samuel Wood at Gen 5 Fertility Center?
Dr. Wood was very direct in his communication and would say things like "I've done this so many times, other clinics don't do this right, trust me." He was extremely black and white with his judgments on certain treatments (like laparoscopic surgery or lupron depot induced menopause). I would have preferred more data behind these claims. Not that he is wrong it just put up red flags for me, because there is too much on the line to "just trust." We were ultimately much happier with the results with Gen5 than with our other clinic so we would go back.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Samuel Wood at Gen 5 Fertility Center?
The experience in person is much better than remote. If you are traveling, it is worth it to be in-person where you will get many more of your questions answered. Write down your questions and bring them in with you because the appointments are so quick Dr. Wood will be walking out the door before you can think to ask otherwise.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Samuel Wood at Gen 5 Fertility Center?
I was passed off to 5 or so different primary points of contact throughout the 5-6 months I was with the clinic with no introduction or reasoning behind the switches. I would email 2-3 questions and receive a one phrase response to one or 2 of the questions, meaning I'd have to continually pester them to get the rest of my questions answered. Every time I talked to the doctor after our initial consult he only had 5-10 mins to speak to me. The doctors answers were extremely direct. He might mention a relevant study but he did not share them with me. I'm a very educated person and wanted to understand every decision and option for me.
Describe the protocols Samuel Wood used in your cycles at Gen 5 Fertility Center and their degree of success.
Ovarian PRP to improve egg quality, followed by monitoring to watch for a dip and improvement in hormone levels, then a very low dose antagonist stim, steriod, and antibiotics for both partners
Dr. Wood shared that the most successful IVF transfers are from natural cycles (i.e. no stims at all) so he does the minimum to keep egg quality at its peak. He does say if you can get 2-3 mature follicles your chances of success are greater so it still make sense to do some medication
Describe your experience with your nurse at Gen 5 Fertility Center. (Assigned nurse: Marissa)
I think the nurses must have been overworked because the email responses I received were very short and the I consistently had to ask for my results (we had a 3 hour time difference which made it more stressful to get communication in time to get to the pharmacy before they closed, etc.)
Describe your experience with Gen 5 Fertility Center.
Strengths - this doctor has the most experience in the US with Ovarian PRP and is an expert in managing DOR
Weaknesses - the communication from the scheduling and nursing staff left much to be desired, the finance team was not familiar with working with insurance (we had Aetna), the cost of the treatments here compared to other clinics was high (and part of what you pay for is the view.. via a $1500 facility fee)
Describe the costs associated with your care under Samuel Wood at Gen 5 Fertility Center.
Ovarian PRP - Ultra was about 8k, with insurance we paid about 4K for our egg retrieval as some charges could not be billed to insurance (including $1500 for IVF calendar coordination, $1500 for facility fee)
What specific things went wrong at Gen 5 Fertility Center?
Dr Wood is an excellent salesman for his "Global Mini IVF Package" for patients of my profile (under a minimum threshold of AMH/AFC and have undergone Ovarian Rejuvenation at Gen5...[he] has a lot of patients and he didn't remember my case specifics, I almost always had to remind him...for single egg retrievals Dr. Wood will consider no anesthesia for patients who can tolerate pain/discomfort and I did appreciate the lower drug burden on my system...
[the Gen 5 Fertility Center] always gave me the appointment time I wanted but I was often left waiting for up to an hour. The facilities and view are beautiful, but the male collection room is a bathroom, which unnerved my husband...[the nurses was] caring and knowledgeable. She made a very tough experience more bearable...$8,480 "Global Mini IVF Package" of 3 accumulative cycles, included MANY services we never required: $25,950 ($4,850 refunded after no success)
How was your experience with Samuel Wood at Gen 5 Fertility Center?
Dr Wood is an excellent salesman for his "Global Mini IVF Package" for patients of my profile (under a minimum threshold of AMH/AFC and have undergone Ovarian Rejuvenation at Gen5). When I first met him, I felt reassured that I'd come to someone on the cutting-edge of ART who had new ideas for older patients, his specialty. So it was hard to hear him blame my age for the lack of success we had at Gen5, particularly because I attribute it in large part to his inattention to the specifics of my case, which were all available for review in my medical records and highlighted in multiple conversations we had with him directly. I had been having remarkable success at my home clinic in LA: retrieving eggs one-at-a-time in unstimulated cycles and growing blastocysts, but we were seeking to improve our PGT-A results and bank more normal embryos. I first underwent Dr. Wood's "Ultra" Ovarian Rejuvenation PRP (platelet-rich-plasma) technique. Then I signed on for his IVF package since he expressed confidence he could improve on my home clinic's results in terms of number of eggs retrieved and normality of blastocysts. I asked for an a la carte option but was convinced the package would be more economical. When Dr. Wood's methods didn't work at all for me 2 cycles into the 3 cycle package, he suggested pivoting back to the natural retrievals and blamed my "reproductive age" for the outcome. Wait, we thought, isn't that what you sold us, improved results for older patients? I declined to go back to my home clinic and received a small partial refund. All that said, I don't know of anyone performing the Ovarian Rejuvenation techniques he does, so I would still recommend him to a patient like me who does not wish to leave any stone unturned and has funds available for this pursuit. The application of PRP to ovaries is not evidence-based medicine at this point in time, so I fully understood it was experimental and may not give me the desired results. I only wish I'd followed my instinct to go back to my original clinic for the post-PRP retrievals and not been sweet-talked into buying the package that Dr. Wood sold us on his supposedly unique methods which would yield a higher number of eggs-- when in fact he was only able to retrieve one, and it did not even fertilize (a problem we did not face at our home clinic). Perhaps if the embryology lab had not used ICSI in the first cycle, which we expressed multiple times to Dr. Wood that we had never needed in a year of monthly retrievals, we might have gotten to fertilization at least. On the second cycle there was NO egg in the follicle, which even as a layperson I would have known based on the low Estradiol level in my blood (about 60) 2 days before the retrieval. But they did not share that lab work with us, so we didn't know to cancel and the fruitless procedure went on. One positive is that for single egg retrievals Dr. Wood will consider no anesthesia for patients who can tolerate pain/discomfort and I did appreciate the lower drug burden on my system.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Samuel Wood at Gen 5 Fertility Center?
Go into your consultation with your eyes open and trust your gut.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Samuel Wood at Gen 5 Fertility Center?
Everyone is polite and kind, but it felt like a production line. As far as I could tell, Dr. Wood has a lot of patients and he didn't remember my case specifics, I almost always had to remind him.
Describe the protocols Samuel Wood used in your cycles at Gen 5 Fertility Center and their degree of success.
Dr. Wood is big on "pre-treatment" a.k.a. estrogen priming, with full or partial BCP in before the menstrual phase. This method really did not work for me. He tailors the rest of the protocol to the patient; since one of my follicles always dominated, I didn't take many drugs, just some Gonal-F and Centrotide, and the Ovidrel trigger.

What specific things went wrong at Gen 5 Fertility Center?
Provided conflicting information
Describe the specific things that went wrong at Gen 5 Fertility Center.
Gen5 expects you to supply extensive medical records and even take more tests (e.g. karyotyping) than other clinics do. Yet the data in my records was not reviewed and applied to my cycles.
Dr. Wood talked to me and my husband as a couple who really wanted to grow their family. I was not defined by my age, diagnosis or previous challenges in fertility treatment. I feel like he was realistic, while being honest and caring...I feel like we received a truly individualized treatment plan that was right for us, and he was open to our feedback.
The [Gen 5 Fertility Center] staff from front desk to finance to nursing was all very friendly and supportive. The only weakness is after having an unsuccessful cycle, we felt a little neglected. We never heard from the Nurse or Doctor after our embryo had come back abnormal, had to request an appointment from a genetic counselor.

Describe the protocols Samuel Wood used in your cycles at Gen 5 Fertility Center and their degree of success.
We did a mini IVF cycle with Dr. Wood, which was completely appropriate given my situation. (In my 40s, 3-4 follicles) He was able to retrieve 2 eggs, 1 of which made a beautiful embryo and PGS testing. Unfortunately, it was found to be abnormal so we did not do a transfer.
Describe your experience with your nurse at Gen 5 Fertility Center. (Assigned nurse: Melissa )
The entire nursing staff was so friendly and helpful, which helped relieve some of the stress of going through fertility treatments. Melissa was very communicative throughout the process and even helped sort out confusion with the pharmacy well after office hours.

Dr. Wood is very experienced and passionate about the work that he does. We listened to us and loved that he personalized a plan for us. The staff from front desk to finance to nursing was all very friendly and supportive. The only weakness is after having an unsuccessful cycle, we felt a little neglected. We never heard from the Nurse or Doctor after our embryo had come back abnormal, had to request an appointment from a genetic counselor. It was tough news to hear and it would’ve been nice to have at least had one follow up or check in call with the doctor or nurse, who had been with us the whole process. I know they are busy, but it would’ve helped close out what was otherwise a very caring, personalized experience.

$1400 for IVF package, including egg retrieval and transfer
$5000 for PRP
What I appreciate most about Dr. Wood is his attentiveness and individualized care- as well as catered medication and stimulation protocols. I was a tough case and my body responds differently to medication. Dr. Wood monitored and studied closely, and listened to what my body needed...expect somewhat long wait times- but it is worth it knowing you will see the same doctor every visit...I always left feeling like I was heard and knew what to expect next
Wait times [at Gen 5 Fertility Center] are occasionally long, but the staff is great about providing updates and making sure you feel taken care of. However, I did expect this and was just happy to see 1 physician each time who is familiar with my case- as opposed to being passed around to multiple doctors...I can't thank Melissa enough for her kindness, patience, and amazing communication throughout my entire care. She made a very emotional experience a lot easier and provided so much support and guidance!! She is truly such a beautiful person.

I appreciated the time Dr. Wood spent with me to go over my care and answer my husband and I's questions. I always left feeling like I was heard and knew what to expect next. I also appreciate Dr. Wood's warmth. Facing Infertility has been an incredibly emotional hurdle to push through, and had greatly taken a toll on us, often leaving us very discouraged. I felt like I finally had some answers upon meeting with Dr. Wood. I truly believe he is the best.

Words cannot express my gratitude for Dr. Wood and the entire team at Gen 5 Fertility. From the moment I walked through door I finally felt like I was home. I had multiple failed IVF cycles from 2 previous centers, and once I met Dr. Wood I knew he was different. My fertility goals were respected and heard. I finally did not feel like just another number. The team is SO sweet and seem to truly have a passion and heart for what they do- and it reflects in the patient care and bedside manner. What I appreciate most about Dr. Wood is his attentiveness and individualized care- as well as catered medication and stimulation protocols. I was a tough case and my body responds differently to medication. Dr. Wood monitored and studied closely, and listened to what my body needed. Other centers seemed to categorize me and put me "in a one-size-fits-all box." I am overflowing with joy to announce the birth of my daughter, who arrived in January.

After 3 other REs, Dr. Sills was a breath of fresh air! I didn't feel like a number or in the cattle call of patients. Dr. Sills took his time with me and explained his treatment plan. Given everything I've been through to get pregnant, he was definitely open to throwing in the kitchen sink. He wanted me to succeed and be a one time patient!... Dr. Sills runs a small practice and at every visit he would ask "what questions do you have for me today?" He always wanted to make sure I was comfortable with my treatment plan etc. He personally called with every result. He was my 4th RE and I think I learned more from him this late in our fertility journey. He's a true educator!...
CAG is a small operation, feels like the mom and pop of fertility clinics, which I loved! I wish their lab was located onsite, but this is how a fertility clinic should be run with the patient's care and opinions taken into account as the first priority...There is only one nurse - very small operation. I will admit that I've had other nurses with more experience at other Clinics, but since I was a veteran in this game, I was fine with the care. Dr Sills was so hands on that the nurse didn't plan as much of a roll as with other clinics...

He put me on an immune protocol, steroids and lovanox. I do have an autoimmune issue, one that every other RE never gave any credit. Dr. Sills decided that since I've had so many failures to add this protocol. He also does a uterine scratch a few days before the transfer. I actually credit this to why we were successful this time around.

I don't remember the exact costs. As this was a donor cycle, we had other expenses with other agencies. I think Dr Sills costs were comparable to other clinics. It wasn't a bargain or way more expense than other clinics.
Dr. Wood is very kind, empathetic, up on current medical procedures, and patient. His positive attitude makes you feel at ease as a patient and makes the IVF process just a little easier than other clinics. It isn’t traumatic, he makes sure you know what to expect and takes time answering all your questions...He used less stim meds than in all my other cycles because he said I didn’t need all of that. He did an ovarian rejuvenation procedure to potentially boost my fertility
Strengths [of Gen 5 Fertility Center] are the ease that they make you feel when in their care. Also, the newer procedures that they offer. I also like the option to do split cycles with donors to keep costs down because it’s hard enough to come to the potential realization you may need to go that route...[nurses] Chloe, Kanan and Sara were all amazing at this clinic. Ginger also was able to get my blood every time…and my veins are troublesome! Great staff all around

I haven’t gotten to that point yet as I have no viable embryos. Looking into another cycle for myself/donor cycle next.
Dr. Wood is very confident, positive and compassionate. Its a tough subject and for the most part I felt that he really wanted to help us. We get an idea of cycle for $13,890. We had no surviving embryos in the cycle so there was no cost for PGS testing. Paid $1900 for medications, over $900 of which we did not use. That was really disheartening.
Dr Sills understands that this is an emotional process. He takes the tome to answer questions and explain procedures. He also has a lot of compassion....He called me to address my concerns. He spent a lot of time with me explaining my treatment.... Throughout this process I have felt broken and defective. Dr Sills did not treat me like that but instead in a gentle and kind way worked with me to explore my options. I think he is a wonderful doctor.
Everyone in the clinic [Ctr for Advanced Genetics] is kind, pleasant and helpful. I enjoy working with them.... Strength - it is a small clinic so you don’t feel like you are a number Weakness - they have short hours so you can’t call them after work Strength - they spend a lot of time with each patient Observation - they are in an area where there is not a lot of activity. So you can easily find parking. Also the building is clean and quiet.

I was not sure what to expect when I met him. I had high hopes. He was realistic but hopeful. He reviewed treatment options. He also made me feel like I was a human being. Throughout this process I have felt broken and defective. Dr Sills did not treat me like that but instead in a gentle and kind way worked with me to explore my options. Describe your experience with Gen 5 Fertility Center.
Strength - it is a small clinic so you don’t feel like you are a number
Weakness - they have short hours so you can’t call them after work
Strength - they spend a lot of time with each patient
Observation - they are in an area where there is not a lot of activity. So you can easily find parking. Also the building is clean and quiet. I am not a fan of busy medical buildings with prying personnel who inquire about where you are going the minute you walk into the building.
