This is the most recent data from the CDC. The CDC cautions that it should not be used to compare doctors and clinics. This data represents the outcomes of IVF cycles when using a person's own eggs.
For more information please see our FAQs.
Where you see a “?” on the chart, a clinic has done fewer than 20 cycles in this category and age range, so the CDC says showing percentages from this small data set would be misleading and unreliable.
We had a lot of questions - he [Dr. Julio Pabon] always took the time to answer...Our journey took longer than we hoped - we felt that he also shared our emotional roller coaster ride and was genuinely happy for US when we achieved success...will not just tell you what you want to hear. He will tell you what you NEED to hear in order to increase your chance of success (like I would benefit from dropping some weight)...For as stressful and emotional as his job is, I feel that most of the time he was poised and patient, which helped us feel calm. There was the rare occasional time he seemed rushed, but he's never been curt or impersonal...
Strengths [at Fertility Center and Applied Genetics of Florida] - small staff means we get to know them and vice versa. They were all pleasant, and we particularly took to Ashley, Ramona, Diane, and Deb (Deb left the practice during our treatment) Weaknesses - sometimes our wait was longer than reasonable...After 2 miscarriages from natural conception, this was our course: Labs (both myself and husband) - yielded normal results 3 failed IUI cycles Genetic testing - yielded no genetic issues 1 self egg retrieval yielded 10 eggs, 8 fertilized, 2 sent for testing, both abnormal 1 donor egg retrieval yielded 6 eggs, all fertilized, all genetically viable 1 donor egg embryo transfer - unsuccessful ERA test - showed my ideal transfer time was a few hours shifted from average 1 donor egg embryo transfer - SUCCESS!!

Describe Julio Pabon's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Fertility Center & Applied Genetics of Florida.
He explained the risks of transferring multiples, but ultimately left the decision to us.
Excellent, smart, knowledgeable, up on current research in the field, caring, empathetic person and Dr. I always felt that I was being well cared for as a patient. After ever failed transfer (3 failed) Dr. pabon would come in with a new course of treatment. He communicated well with us and there were even times where he called after hours or when he was not in the office to help us with questions or concerns.
The office [Family Center and Applied Genetics of FL] is small and the 2 main nurses that I always worked with knew us and knew our situation. We felt cared about. ... You have to advocate for yourself at times. If you have a question, are trying to get an appt or get on the next cycle for transfer sometimes you have to just keep calling and make it happen. They really try to fit everyone in

Give Dr. Pabon a chance. Initially our first consultation he seemed a little distant but after being a patient he was not like that at all.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Julio Pabon at Fertility Center & Applied Genetics of Florida?
There was a lot of communication between my husband and I and Dr. Pabon. The office is small and the 2 main nurses that I always worked with knew us and knew our situation. We felt cared about. After each failed transfer Dr. Pabon would meet with us and he had real empathy for his patients. We would come up with a new plan together. For every failed transfer Dr.Pabon would call us with the results, not his nurse. I was overall very comfortable with thi Dr. and the practice and I would highly recommend them. Infertility is so hard and the results can’t be guaranteed. But having a supportive, smart team to work with was so helpful.

Describe Julio Pabon's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Fertility Center & Applied Genetics of Florida.
Due to the risks to mother and babies on mulitiple births, Dr.Pabon strongly recommended against them. It was only after we had 3 failed transfers that we all agreed to transfer 2 embryos. And that 4th transfer we got pregnant with our son.

How was your experience with Julio Pabon at Fertility Center & Applied Genetics of Florida?
During our initial consultation visit, he reviewed our previous records of what procedures and treatment plans had been attempted and essentially formulated a plan without repeating diagnostic testing that was already performed thereby eliminating any unnecessary procedures, testing, costs, and basically time. He recommended that we attempt IVF with frozen specimens due to higher success rates. Overall, he did not "beat around the bush" and knew that we had been trying to conceive for over 5 years and wanted us to get the best results possible.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Julio Pabon at Fertility Center & Applied Genetics of Florida?
This type of issue requires the utmost patience and trust because although every aspect is calculated and measured, success does not always occur during the first attempt although it has happened for some couples.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Julio Pabon at Fertility Center & Applied Genetics of Florida?
From our initial visit in January 2014, the friendly staff always remembered our names and made us feel comfortable during every visit. Dr. Pabon was always cheerful often wearing a bow tie as he greeted us. During each and every visit, he spent ample time explaining the treatment plans along with potential side effects.
Describe the protocols Julio Pabon used in your cycles at Fertility Center & Applied Genetics of Florida and their degree of success.
The protocols for each of the three egg retrievals was very similar in regard to the dosing of progesterone and of Lupron, however, the dosing of Follistim changed during each subsequent round of egg retrieval. The dosing of estrogen was similar during the first two rounds of treatment, but changed considerably (forgot if dose was increased for decreased) during the third egg retrieval. The dosing of medications after the three embryo transfers remained fairly consistent.
Describe your experience with your nurse at Fertility Center & Applied Genetics of Florida. (Assigned nurse: Ramona)
Besides Dr. Pabon, Ramona is the other main factor why we continued our treatments at this particular clinic. For over 2 years, she became part of our family as she showed us the needed compassion that our friends and family could not exhibit because they have never and will never understand our struggles of infertility. Ramona always knew the right words to say to us especially after the miscarriages, most notably the fetus at 8 weeks. She even cried with us as we carefully watched the ultrasound to find the heartbeat that no longer echoed on the screen. She had been present during every egg retrieval and during every embryo transfer. She often conveyed our medication instructions in detail and is the only nurse at this clinic to obtain blood during the first venipuncture attempt on visits when blood testing was necessary. Of course, she was present when we momentarily thought that we had another miscarriage, and she was so elated when she saw the beating heart.

Egg retrievals were grouped under a standard cost that included the anesthesia staff, ultrasound, medications, monitoring, and other items. Transfer of frozen embryos also had a standard payment including one serum pregnancy test. Medications ordered from out of state pharmacy varied somewhat in costs due to changes in doses and at times medications.

How was your experience with Julio Pabon at Fertility Center & Applied Genetics of Florida?
Dr. Pabon was amazing and no words can express our gratitude for without him we would not have our son! He is truly an expert and we came to him for family balancing using the IVF and PGS procedure as we already had two daughters conceived naturally. We travelled from Atlanta and they managed my medications remotely, it was a year of trying and four IVF freeze protocols due to my ovaries that didn't respond very well to stimulation. Describe the protocols Julio Pabon used in your cycles at Fertility Center & Applied Genetics of Florida and their degree of success.
We did IVF with PGS for family balancing. I'm advanced maternal age -37/38 when we started the journey and 39 when our baby was born. The first round my ovaries didn't respond well to stimulation. Follistim, Lupron and Hcg were prescribed and they did a live sperm ICSI and it resulted with 4 fertilized embryos and only one lasted into day 5 and it was discovered that it was the gender we wanted but abnormal chromosomes after the PGS testing. We did the next two stimulations with a higher dosage of Follistim and also a live ICSI and froze the embryos.
This was the procedure recommended as my ovaries were "stubborn" and only produced a little bit of eggs per stimulation. In the fourth stimulation the embryos with the same live ICSI protocol was blended with the thawed Day 1 embryos from IVF cycles
2 and 3 and all grown together to Day 5 embryos then tested with the latest PGS technology. In the end we ended up with one embryo for each gender and one abnormal day 5 embryo.

Describe the costs associated with your care under Julio Pabon at Fertility Center & Applied Genetics of Florida.
His costs are very transparent and listed on his website. The IVF cycle pricing is very fairly priced and a value if you consider the level of care and personal expert service you receive from their team: The most advanced PGS screening is an expensive additional expense but so worth it. The follistim and other medications are expensive so make sure you factor that in when you are trying to anticipate costs. The lazier your ovaries are the more expense it will be for the medications bec the higher the dosage.

Describe the protocols Julio Pabon used in your cycles at Fertility Center & Applied Genetics of Florida and their degree of success.
When we went to Dr. Pabon initially we had unexplained infertility and PCOS. He talked through our options of doing IUI vs Invitro. We wanted to be more aggressive in our treatments so we choose to do IVF. The first round of IVF we did I ended up hyper stimulating with 29 eggs and getting ill which called for an all freeze cycle. Only three of our embryos made it to day 5. We transferred 1 embryo the following month which resulted in a chemical pregnancy. The following cycle we transferred the two remaining embryos (poor quality) which resulted in a negative pregnancy test.
Heart broken we decided to try one more round. Dr. Pabon introduced us to the idea of doing PGS which we choose to do. He adjust our medications and added a vitamin regime of COQ10 and melatonin to our meds. We did our second round with out hyper stimulating which resulted in 4 embryos making it to the PGS testing. 2 embryos went to testing first 1 was missing a set of chromosomes and was labeled as unusable the second embryo in that group resulted in a full term pregnancy with our first son. Our second embryos came back 1 male and 1 female. Those two embryos went to long term storage
In August of this year, we transferred our second male embryo and the female went to storage. I am now in my 31st week of pregnancy with our second boy.

We did two cycles of IVF which were about 10,000 each, one had PGS which a was a little bit more. Our embryo transfers were around 5,000 each and we paid for 2 out of the 3 of them (one was covered in our IVF cost)
We started off with trying IUIs., when these did not work we went to IVF... I was over stimulated so my embryos had to be frozen... Dr Pabon was great. From the first visit he sat and talked with me any my husband and knew his stuff. He was very knowledgable. He personally called me several times to check on my after procedures and to give me the good news that I was pregnant. He would take time to answer questions after an appointment.
Never a long wait. They scheduled each patient so that you typically never saw anyone. They were also considerate to our feelings. If someone came in with a child and knew it might upset you, they would let you go out the back door.

We started off with trying IUIs., when these did not work we went to IVF. This started off with injections to help produce eggs. I had to go in for several ultrasounds to determine when it was time for retrievial. So many injections. I was put under anesthesia for this procedure. It seemed to take minutes to do. I was over stimulated so my embryos had to be frozen. I was put on more hormones and the transfer happened a few months later. Two embryos were transferred. I became pregnant and stayed on a bunch of hormones until I was 12 weeks along.

He [Julio Pabon] was very real and treated me with respect and had so much empathy. Best bedside manner!...I felt very comfortable with Dr Pabon. From the first day of consultation until the end I felt like I was the most important patient. He always stayed positive which helped me immensely. Especially helped me get through the second time... First transfer wasn’t successful. He adjusted the estrace for the second transfer and we are now 11 weeks pregnant with twins. We transferred 2 healthy embryos this time. 1 the first time.
We paid $25,000-$35,000 total [at Fertility Center and Applied Genetics of Florida] with retrieval, genetic testing, era test, 2 separate embryo transfers and all of the medications and final ultrasounds and blood work after pregnancy...The staff is very very friendly. They seem to have good training on how to deal with woman in my shoes. I did feel like there were a couple of surprises with costs at certain times. I was shocked a couple of times and felt I wasn’t given warning with some things. Overall, as long as you go in prepared to ask so many questions including costs for each step you will be extremely happy with this office. I am going to miss seeing them.

How was your experience with Julio Pabon at Fertility Center & Applied Genetics of Florida?
At first it was all overwhelming. I came to him as I was still going through my third miscarriage and didn't want to be there. I was ready to get pregnant again as fast as possible. Dr Pabon was very direct in telling me I needed to slow down and follow his processes which included getting fully tested. While there ended up not being any underlying issues for the miscarriages aside for age (I was 34) and bad luck, I am glad I followed his plan. He presented IVF as an alternative and while it was one of the most stressful things I have ever done I am really glad I did it and grateful to him and his team for trying to make it as easy as possible.

Dr Pabon cared more about the patient than getting his numbers up. For me, I had a low amount of eggs that I produced for retrieval but he didn't urge me to cancel. He told me that was my decision but he wouldn't cancel with where I was at (4-5 eggs). Thankfully I went forward and ended with 2 healthy embryos.
Describe the protocols Julio Pabon used in your cycles at Fertility Center & Applied Genetics of Florida and their degree of success.
12 days of injectables for the retrieval. I did the basic levels I believe b/c of my FSH bloodwork but I didn't end up responding great. He said if I was going to cancel and do it again he would have increased the dosage. After retrieval I was on about 1 month of lupron injections and then I started the estrogen pills and patches followed by progesterone leading up to transfer. I have continued all 3 into my first trimester.

Describe Julio Pabon's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Fertility Center & Applied Genetics of Florida.
I saw [Dr. Pabon] every time I had an office visit. He did all the ultrasounds and consulted with me on everything that happened along our IVF journey. He even called us personally to discuss medicine protocols and to deliver the news we were pregnant...He diagnosed a thyroid condition that no one else had and started me on medication that helped immediately. All the IVF medications were easy to order and had mild side effects.
[the Fertility Center & Applied Genetics of Fl] work so hard and as a team and the overall vibe in the office is very positive and professional. They take time to explain procedures and medicine protocols to you and any other questions you may have...Strengths of the clinic were definitely personalized care and responsiveness. You can call or text or email any time and someone will get back with you. Everyone is so helpful. They also give you your test results in a timely manner, usually the same day. This is so wonderful when you are waiting for HCG numbers to come back!
How was your experience with Julio Pabon at Fertility Center & Applied Genetics of Florida?
We liked Dr. Pabon right off the bat. He was personable and professional from our first consultation. He was very positive and made us feel positive about a good outcome. I had had 2 previous failed embryo transfers with another facility and wanted to have more personalized care. I found that with Dr. Pabon. He diagnosed a thyroid condition that no one else had and started me on medication that helped immediately. All the IVF medications were easy to order and had mild side effects. The only injection I had to take was Lurpon for a few weeks prior to the embryo transfer. Dr. Pabon did a frozen embryo transfer with our last embryo that had been frozen for 6 years! It worked, I am currently almost 7 weeks pregnant!

Dr. Pabon and his staff provide personalized care. I have been to larger groups of doctors where you are treated like a number and never see the doctor. At Dr. Pabon's office, I saw him every time I had an office visit. He did all the ultrasounds and consulted with me on everything that happened along our IVF journey. He even called us personally to discuss medicine protocols and to deliver the news we were pregnant. He really likes his job and it shows!
Describe the protocols Julio Pabon used in your cycles at Fertility Center & Applied Genetics of Florida and their degree of success.
Dr. Pabon used a personalized protocol for me which I appreciated. I would highly recommend doing the ERT protocol prior to a FET. I know it was very helpful in determining when to do the FET. And it helped me get pregnant!
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at Fertility Center & Applied Genetics of Florida.
The nursing staff is amazing! They work so hard and as a team and the overall vibe in the office is very positive and professional. They take time to explain procedures and medicine protocols to you and any other questions you may have. I had a frozen embryo being stored at another facility and they handled everything with transferring it to Dr. Pabon's office! They are always smiling and were genuine with me. I really appreciated all of them!
Describe your experience with Fertility Center & Applied Genetics of Florida.
Strengths of the clinic were definitely personalized care and responsiveness. You can call or text or email any time and someone will get back with you. Everyone is so helpful. They also give you your test results in a timely manner, usually the same day. This is so wonderful when you are waiting for HCG numbers to come back!
Describe the costs associated with your care under Julio Pabon at Fertility Center & Applied Genetics of Florida.
Costs are very reasonable. I did not feel that he was over charging or that he was trying to make appointments that weren't necessary. He would even combine tests so that it would save on office visits!
Dr. Pabon makes you feel like a human right from the beginning while giving you very clear direction and expectations of what he can help you and your spouse accomplish. He gets to know a little about both of you so he can be able to advise both persons involved on how they can positively contribute to the plan...When we went in for our second transfer Dr. Pabon was up front and honest about his wanting to transfer our last 2 embryos.
Clean office pleasant experience and awesome people. [the Fertility Center staff are] Easy to communicate with and they are all very well educated in how to handle patients, their needs and what your going through. Very easy to communicate with for scheduling appointments or answering questions around insurance, appointments, or even medication ordering. What a great team!
How was your experience with Julio Pabon at Fertility Center & Applied Genetics of Florida?
In the beginning Dr.Pabon and myself got off to a rocky road in a personal way. I was open and honest with him about daily habits and he gave me some hard feedback that was tough to swallow. After reflecting on our conversation I came to realize he was just telling us what we needed to hear to give our selves the best chance to conceive. At the end of the day that is the most important thing and that was something I had to come to terms with. I always told my wife regardless of my personal feelings about him I always thought he was the best man for the job. As we continued on our journey with Dr.Pabon every interaction our relationship with him grew stronger. By the time we had our first transfer I felt like he was just as much emotionally involved in it as we were. Something I never thought we would get from a doctor who does this all day long. We unfortunately had a failed first transfer and I felt that he took that news just as hard as we did. I am not going to say that it made it easier but it was definitely comforting. When we went in for our second transfer Dr. Pabon was up front and honest about his wanting to transfer our last 2 embryos. Trusting him like we have the entire time I can proudly announce he was spot on. My wife got pregnant with 2 babies. We are 10 weeks into her process and could not be happier. He was so excited to share with us the news and I was honestly so sad to say goodbye to him as we move on to another doctor to finish the pregnancy. Thank you Dr. Pabon for helping us start our family and making me a better man in the process.

In the first few visits there are obviously a lot of questions that requires Dr. Pabon to be very honest and informative. This can give you a vibe of a robotic approach. I can assure you Dr. Pabon makes you feel like a human right from the beginning while giving you very clear direction and expectations of what he can help you and your spouse accomplish. He gets to know a little about both of you so he can be able to advise both persons involved on how they can positively contribute to the plan.

They are up front pricing but they can not give you an accurate # on medication because everyone is different and requires different dosage. There were no surprises after finding out for the very first time what we were getting into. Took a few month to financially plan but once the plan was set we were never really thrown off track. the cost of transfer and retrieval is pretty close to the same for medication in our world.
Dr Pabons expertise and compassion at what he does allows for him to develop a specific protocol and plan for each one of his patients. With us suffering from mild male factor infertility our protocol was pretty easy and straight forward. He added a little synthroid just to help get my TSH levels closer to what he prefers for pregnancy. We have just started the process and I have no doubt in his process to achieve a successful pregnancy.

No matter the time or day he would return my calls and ease any concern or fear I was having. I have never trusted a doctor as much as I trust him. His sense of humor was a plus to this emotional, mental, and physically draining experience.

Describe Julio Pabon's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Fertility Center & Applied Genetics of Florida.
I'm getting ready to do an FET and he really only likes to transfer 1 embryo to have the lowest risk possible of multiples.
I think Dr Pabon was a nice, soft spoken guy. My consult with him was good, I believed he was pretty thorough. He recommended we do IVF right away seeing as how I was 37 and counting. I really wanted to try IUIs first and he was ok with it. I’m not sure that I ever really connected with him, but it wasn’t a bad experience either. ... To start with the IUI process he put me on Femara instead of Clomid because it has less side effects and is safer for me.
I had a very blasé experience at this clinic [Fertility Center and Applied Genetic of FL]. I was frequently left needing more answers. I was told the doctor was gonna have surgery so he couldn’t do my treatments for a month or two and no one ever contacted me back to get back on his schedule. ... I felt like a human mostly. Everyone was kind. I wouldn’t say that they remembered my name or anything, but they we're nice.

To start with the IUI process he put me on Femara instead of Clomid because it has less side effects and is safer for me. I started on CD 5 for three days. Ultrasound on CD 10 and Ovidrel HCG injection that night. IUI at CD 13. Started progesterone suppositories two days later to make sure I had a healthy lining and prevent miscarriage. Negative Result.
The Ovidrel was horrendous for me. I shot my belly at 10pm and woke up in the middle of the night feeling super nauseous and dizzy with a pounding migraine. It lasted approximately 8hours.
Second try- He added an additional day to the Femara so I took it four days instead of three to see if we could get more eggs released. Only injected half of the Ovidrel shot on CD11, no side effects. IUI on CD13. Negative Result.
Third try no changes. Femara CD5 for four days, Ovidrel half shot CD10, IUI CD12, progesterone suppositories two days later. Negative Result.

Nothing much to speak of. Everyone was nice but not super helpful. There wasn’t anyone that I felt went above and beyond their duties. I had to call frequently with questions and follow ups.

What specific things went wrong at Fertility Center & Applied Genetics of Florida?
He [Dr. Pabon] is thoughtful and extremely knowledgeable. He has a great confidence in his work which I found very comforting. I have trusted him completely through 3 rounds of IVF not only due to his expertise but also the respect he shows for the life he is helping to create...called me himself after hours and even from vacation to check on me several times during my IVF procedures. He even drove from Sarasota to Bradenton to clear up a pharmacy issue with my pain medication for me after my egg retrieval
The nurses [at Fertility Center & Applied Genetics of Floria] were also very knowledgeable, I called frequently for clarification on orders/meds etc. and fully trusted their guidance...[clinic is] Clean and comfortable. Describe the protocols Julio Pabon used in your cycles at Fertility Center & Applied Genetics of Florida and their degree of success.
Me and my partner first met Dr Pabon for a second opinion before a laparoscopic surgery due to my endometriosis. He seemed to have thoroughly gone through my medical record before the appointment and gave me appropriate advise. After going through surgery, hormone treatment (to induce temporary menopaus), and six cycles of clomid with my regular OB/Gyn Dr without getting pregnant, me and my partner returned to Dr Pabon. He gave us two different treatment options and we selected the more invasive one, IVF. We were lucky to get 5 embryos from our first egg retrieval. We wanted to do a fresh transfer but Dr Pabon explained that my hormone levels were not ideal for a transfer at the moment and suggested we do a frozen transfer instead. Because of my endometriosis he put me on Lupron for some weeks before we did a frozen transfer. We were overjoyed to find out that I got pregnant on the first try. I am currently 11 weeks pregnant and am very hopeful that we will soon hold our first baby in our arms.

Dr. Pabon suggested that we transfer 1 embryo only due to my relatively young age.
Dr. Pabon personally called me with news even if it was on the weekend or in the evenings...I am 44 years old and just delivered my second Dr. Pabon baby! Dr. Pabon is an amazing, caring physician and if I could give him eleven stars I would!... I am a single-mother-by-choice (my daughters were conceived with donor sperm) who decided when I was 40 that I was finally ready to become a mother... Because of my age, Dr. Pabon suggested that I go straight to an IVF procedure.

They gave me clear instructions and returned my calls promptly...The staff were very supportive and always knew my name when I came to the office...some of the front desk ladies (who were new since my first pregnancy) were not as patient, caring, and organized as a few of them who were there with my first pregnancy (and had since left.)
How was your experience with Julio Pabon at Fertility Center & Applied Genetics of Florida?
I am 44 years old and just delivered my second Dr. Pabon baby! Dr. Pabon is an amazing, caring physician and if I could give him eleven stars I would! I live in Orlando and it was totally worth the 2.5 hour drive to see him.
I am a single-mother-by-choice (my daughters were conceived with donor sperm) who decided when I was 40 that I was finally ready to become a mother. I looked at several different fertility offices and ultimately chose Dr. Pabon because his success rates were significantly higher than other offices and the staff who initially answered the phone were extremely kind and helpful. I am so glad that I chose Dr. Pabon, because he is one of the most skilled, compassionate doctors that I have ever worked with. He made personal calls (even on the weekends and after hours) to check on me and make sure that I had the information that I needed. He genuinely cares about his patients and their outcomes.
Because of my age, Dr. Pabon suggested that I go straight to an IVF procedure. I wanted to try getting pregnant by IUI instead, because I had no known fertility issues (aside from my advanced age) and the IUI procedure is significantly less expensive. Dr. Pabon supported my choice, but said that we should set a limit on the number of IUIs (we decided on four) and that if it didn’t work, we agreed to advance to IVF. In hindsight, I wish I took his advice from the beginning, because unfortunately the IUIs did not work and it ultimately cost me both more time and money than if I went with his recommendation from the beginning. (I would recommend going straight to IVF to anybody over 35 who is trying to conceive.)
I ended up doing two egg harvests because I knew that I wanted to have at least two children and Dr. Pabon suggested that I collect as many embryos as I needed to have the number of children that I wanted then, because with every year that would pass my eggs would become older and statistically less viable. I also decided to do genetic testing which was absolutely the right choice for me because: a) many of my embryos ended up not being viable and it would have been expensive and heartbreaking to go through several failed pregnancy attempts with non-viable embryos and b) I really wanted to have daughters and you can learn the sex of the embryos through the genetic testing. With my first harvest I collected 11 eggs and got six embryos of which only two were viable. Just in case one of my pregnancies did not take, I did a second harvest and collected eight eggs and five embryos, three of which were viable.
Before we did the implantation, Dr. Pabon strongly encouraged me to lose some weight because excessive fat can negatively impact the outcome. It wasn’t easy to hear (or do!), but I did get within five pounds of a normal BMI before my first implantation. I added fertility acupuncture to Dr. Pabon’s closely monitored drug regimen and fortunately ended up conceiving on the first try at 41! My first daughter was born 34 weeks later! (Unfortunately, I developed severe pre-eclampsia, so she had to be delivered early by C-section, but she is a happy and healthy two-year-old now, so no long-term problems!)
At 43 I decided I was ready to have my second child. Since I had the embryos already, I only had to do another implantation. Dr. Pabon is always at the cutting edge of treatments, and I was impressed by how even in the two years since I previously conceived, he added several new protocols. With the implantation of my second daughter, I had some spotting, so Dr. Pabon recommended that I get an ultrasound in Orlando (so that I wouldn’t have to drive all the way to Sarasota) to check and make sure that everything was OK. I got a phone call that evening from him saying that they could not find a heartbeat and that he was very sorry, but that my pregnancy had probably terminated (I was almost at the seven-week mark). He was very kind and compassionate, and I was, of course, devastated. I refused to believe the results though (denial is the first stage of grief, right?) and was adamant that everything was OK. Dr. Pabon thoughtfully listened to me and said that if I wanted to come to Sarasota in a couple of days, he would give me a second opinion. He strongly iterated that I needed to maintain my drug regimen in the interim. (I had been religious about taking my drugs with both pregnancies; there is quite an extensive list of shots and pills that need to be administered at various times throughout the day, so I made an Excel spreadsheet so that I wouldn’t miss any doses!)
When I arrived in Sarasota, I was the last appointment of the day and the office was very somber, clearly having been prepared to deliver me bad news. A few seconds after he started the ultrasound, he said, “I see a heartbeat!” and started to laugh. I started to cry because I was so relieved! He called my second daughter (who was born at 37 weeks, again due to pre-eclampsia) “Bonus Fry”! 😊
So, long story short, Dr. Pabon is a miracle worker who helped me conceive two beautiful, healthy daughters after I turned 40. He and his staff are wonderful, caring people who I would give my highest recommendation to.
For women over 40 trying to conceive, I have the following advice:
1. Definitely use Dr. Pabon! His success rates are higher because he carefully monitors each patient, is not afraid to give them hard advice (like lose weight), and is always at the leading edge of treatment technologies
2. Go straight to IVF, it will save you time and money in the long run
3. Do the genetic testing. It is a bit more expensive up front, but will be a lot less expensive than a second round of IVF due to implanting an inviable embryo.
4. Be extremely precise with your medications. Dr. Pabon carefully calibrates the dosage and timing for you, but you need to follow his advice to the letter! Use spreadsheets, alarms, post-its, whatever you have to, in order to take your meds on time.
5. Add fertility acupuncture. I did it with both pregnancies. With my second pregnancy Dr. Pabon even added that in as an option at his clinic.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Julio Pabon at Fertility Center & Applied Genetics of Florida?
He knows what he is doing, so follow his advice exactly, even if it is inconvenient or not what you were initially thinking. At the same time, trust that you know your body and communicate with him if you think something is not right; he will listen to you.

Dr. Pabon recommended that I go straight to IVF due to my age. I didn't listen to him and wasted several thousands of dollars on IUIs when I could have gone straight to IVF and conceived on the first try.
He also recommended the genetic testing, which I am glad that I did, because many of my embryos were not viable and we were then able to implant only the ones that were. I conceived two daughters with him, both on the first implantation attempt. (I was 41 the first time and 43 the second time.)

The clinic is the doctor and the nurses (plus support staff), so I don't have much else to add. I know that he has moved to a new location now, so I can't really comment on the new facilities. If I were to make one negative comment about the facility it would be that with my second implantation, some of the front desk ladies (who were new since my first pregnancy) were not as patient, caring, and organized as a few of them who were there with my first pregnancy (and had since left.)
Describe the costs associated with your care under Julio Pabon at Fertility Center & Applied Genetics of Florida.
Hmm. It was awhile ago now. I believe in 2016 the process which included two egg harvests, one failed embryo transfer attempt (my lining wasn't thick enough), and one successful embryo transfer cost $50,000 with the cost of all drugs and everything. For my second child (just the embryo transfer, drugs, follow-up appointments, etc.) I believe it was $20,000.

Initially I did not think it was a good idea because IVF is so expensive and I was worried that if I only implanted one embryo I wouldn't have a viable pregnancy at the end. Dr. Pabon explained to me though that a single embryo transfer is actually better for the baby and better for the mother and usually ended up with a BETTER chance of a viable pregnancy, not a worse one. (He was right!)
