This is the most recent data from the CDC. The CDC cautions that it should not be used to compare doctors and clinics. This data represents the outcomes of IVF cycles when using a person's own eggs.
For more information please see our FAQs.
Where you see a “?” on the chart, a clinic has done fewer than 20 cycles in this category and age range, so the CDC says showing percentages from this small data set would be misleading and unreliable.
My experience with Dr. Berin was night and day as compared to my prior experience. She was very positive and encouraging about my case from the start, and patiently addressed all of my questions and concerns (I had many). The greatest strength of the nursing staff [at Fertility Institute of New Jersey] is their warmth and care. I always felt welcome and comfortable. I wasn't assigned a specific nurse, but heard from a range of folks. This worked ok, for the most part. Whenever I had questions I could get them answered, so this was what was important to me....Monitoring sometimes took a long time. I appreciated that I usually saw Dr Berin at my appointments, and was willing to wait given this. That said, it did make my work schedule a bit difficult...
How was your experience with Inna Berin at Fertility Institute of New Jersey?
I came to Dr. Berin after 4 egg retrievals and a failed transfer at RMANJ. I was physically and emotionally exhausted, and not sure I could keep moving forward with IVF. My experience with Dr. Berin was night and day as compared to my prior experience. She was very positive and encouraging about my case from the start, and patiently addressed all of my questions and concerns (I had many). Dr. Berin is incredibly knowledgeable and up to date on current research...as I said in my prior response, she is honestly the best medical professional I have ever interacted with. As far as my treatment, I was an IVF veteran at that point, and everything was simple and straightforward. We did one retrieval, and I made 6 embryos...I never made more than 2 at RMA, and usually made 1, sometimes 0. We tested those 6 embryos and 2 were genetically normal. (This was all at 41; when I started I was 39, so ostensibly those early cycles should have produced better results.). We chose to do an ERA to maximize chance of success, and also did a modified immune protocol to cover our bases on transfer. I was successful with my first transfer, and I now have a beautiful 7 month old. I plan to go back to Dr Berin soon in hopes of having a second baby. With any luck, the first transfer takes, but if not I'll transfer my embryos from my prior clinic to her office. It's over an hour each way for me to drive to Dr. Berin's, which is difficult when pregnant and sick and coming in often for monitoring. BUT...I will absolutely do it again. I would drive anywhere, honestly!
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Inna Berin at Fertility Institute of New Jersey?
Dr. Berin is truly one of the most amazing medical professionals I have ever interacted with. She is incredibly knowledgable, thoughtful, and up to date on all current research. She also brings a deep understanding of the emotional toll of fertility treatment, and went above and beyond offering compassion and encouragement. Moreover, I am a researcher by nature and profession, and want to know the details of my care plan. Dr. Berin is incredibly busy but still made time to answer my questions, explain details, and address concerns. When I came to her I was at a point in my fertility journey where I questioned whether or not I could continue; she made it possible for me to keep going, and I now have a beautiful 7 month old.

Describe your experience with Fertility Institute of New Jersey.
We were there at the height of COVID, which meant my partner could not be present for any procedures. This was difficult but of course understandable. I found everyone professional and easy to interact with. I always felt welcome.
Describe your experience with your monitoring appointments at Fertility Institute of New Jersey.
Monitoring sometimes took a long time. I appreciated that I usually saw Dr Berin at my appointments, and was willing to wait given this. That said, it did make my work schedule a bit difficult. It was also COVID, so this really complicated everything and likely extended wait times.

We were lucky to have insurance coverage so I just paid co-pays.
Describe Inna Berin's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Fertility Institute of New Jersey.
She would only have done SET, as my embryos were genetically tested. I was in complete agreement and wouldn't contemplate transferring more than one tested embryo, especially at my age.
The professionalism, knowledge, compassion, and commitment from Dr. Inna Berin gave me confidence and assured me I was in the best hands. Her extensive experience made my treatment much easier. I felt I as taken by the hand during the entire process...Due to my advanced age both of my protocols were aggressive. For both cycles I had a total of 9,000IUs of Gonal-F + 10 injections of Ganirelix 250mcg + 125IUs of Low Dose hCG + 10,000IUs of Pregnyl used. 20 tablets of Doxycycl Hycl 100MG. as antibiotic for the 5 days following the egg retrieval procedure...
All nurses [at Fertility Institute of New Jersey] who assisted me during my 2 cycles of egg freezing made me feel welcomed. Their support made the entire process smoother. Describe Inna Berin's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Fertility Institute of New Jersey.
I appreciated that throughout my treatment Dr. Levine always talked about it in the context of helping my husband and me achieve our goal of having 2 kids...We did 3 rounds of egg retrievals. The first cycle, we got 7 eggs...The second round [he] put me on a higher dose of the medications. We got 9 eggs...[he] asked us if we wanted to transfer a single embryo or multiples. We said we preferred a single and he was fine with that.
I think this [Fertility Instiutue of NJ] clinic's biggest strength is that the people who work there really care about helping their patients. I also got the impression that some of the staff - both on the admin and medical side - have experienced infertility themselves, which I think is what makes them so good at communicating with patients...morning monitoring is only 3 days a week, and they always got me in and out in under an hour
How was your experience with Zalman Levine at Fertility Institute of New Jersey?
Overall I had a wonderful experience with Dr. Levine. IVF is a difficult journey - it's physically demanding, the uncertainty makes it emotionally challenging, and of course it's expensive. I appreciated that throughout my treatment Dr. Levine always talked about it in the context of helping my husband and me achieve our goal of having 2 kids. When we started treatment Dr. Levine said that our chances of being able to have two kids were excellent (close to 100%), that it wouldn't be easy, but that in the end we would have success - and that's exactly what happened.
We did 3 rounds of egg retrievals. The first cycle, we got 7 eggs. Three of them survived to be day 5 embryos, and of those only one was chromosomally normal. The second round Dr. Levine put me on a higher dose of the medications. We got 9 eggs, 4 of them developed into day 5 embryos, but none of them were chromosomally normal. That was definitely a low point for us, but Dr. Levine recommended trying again. The third round, we got only 6 eggs, and only two become day-5 embryos. When I got this news I was ready to give up on my own eggs and look for a donor. But then we got great news that one of them was chromosomally normal! So this meant we had TWO normal, day-5 embryos, which meant we had a pretty good chance of being able to have two kids.
We transferred the one embryo we got from the first cycle and I'm currently 12 weeks pregnant!
Throughout my care I always felt like I was in great hands with Dr. Levine. He doesn't give more information than you need, but always answered my questions with compassion and in a way I understood.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Zalman Levine at Fertility Institute of New Jersey?
Make a mental note of any questions you have before your monitoring sessions. You will only have a few minutes with Dr. Levine and he is very efficient and moves quickly to see patients. There were days when I would leave the office and realize I had a question and I'd missed my chance to ask.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Zalman Levine at Fertility Institute of New Jersey?
I always felt like Dr. Levine genuinely cared about me and was invested in helping me become a parent. I think he gets a lot of personal satisfaction from helping couples bring new lives into the world - it's evident from the interactions I had with him throughout my treatment. He always asked how I was feeling and about my husband (who wasn't allowed to come into the office b/c of covid). When he had good news for me I could always tell it made him happy to deliver it, and when he had bad news he delivered it compassionately.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at Fertility Institute of New Jersey.
I loved the nursing staff at FINJNY.
I relied on Adrienne, Gwen, and Melissa so much throughout my treatment. I was always calling the office to leave messages with questions or requests and they were extremely helpful. They were extremely professional and caring at every step of the way.
Describe your experience with Fertility Institute of New Jersey.
I think this clinic's biggest strength is that the people who work there really care about helping their patients. I also got the impression that some of the staff - both on the admin and medical side - have experienced infertility themselves, which I think is what makes them so good at communicating with patients. I did a consultation at a different fertility clinic and had a different experience.
I also really liked that this is all they do there. They're not part of a big hospital - they have their own lab, and this is all they do.
I also appreciated that morning monitoring is only 3 days a week, and they always got me in and out in under an hour. I typically waited for about 15 minutes to see the doctor for an ultrasound and about 10 minutes for blood work, and then I was out and on my way back home.
This was a big contrast to another clinic I did a consult at where they said patients would start showing up at 6am to get in line to wait, and that the wait could be an hour or longer. FINJNY really does everything they can to make this as easy as possible for patients.
The only downside is that they are in demand, so they need to be really efficient seeing patients. Hence why you should always write down any questions you have in advance so you don't forget.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Zalman Levine at Fertility Institute of New Jersey.
I had insurance that covered 90% of the first two egg retrieval cycles. I think my out of pocket cost for those was about $1,200 each. For the third cycle we paid out of pocket. (If I had gone with a US-based pharmacy, it would have been about $10,000 for medications.) We ordered medications from an overseas pharmacy and it was about $5,000. The cost of the IVF cycle was about $17,000, plus $250 per embryo for genetic testing.

Dr. Levine asked us if we wanted to transfer a single embryo or multiples. We said we preferred a single and he was fine with that.
I just wish that the Doctor [Dr. Levine] would be more open minded with me as his patient to consider a fresh transfer, or modifying my protocol, or explaining why other protocols can't be tried. ... He is a by the book Doctor ... I felt like a failure for him constantly mentioning there were other options such as adoption, or egg donor; I came to see this Doctor to feel as if I could find someone that would be willing to fight with me in beating my odds in infertility based on my age.
The billing department [Fertility Institute of New Jersey] in my opinon awesome never had an issue Penny is great. ... Second IVF was the same but they were willing to work a price because it was my second. I think they try to work with you. ... How was your experience with Zalman Levine at Fertility Institute of New Jersey?
I will always be thankful that after my egg retrievals with Dr. Levine I always healed well. I just wish that the Doctor would be more open minded with me as his patient to consider a fresh transfer, or modifying my protocol, or explaining why other protocols can't be tried. Dr. Levine always said I responded well to the protocol I was on, but after my first IVF CP I wish he would of consider in my second IVF a different protocol for what I believe would be future pregnancy losses due to my medical history. I went in trusting his first protocol and advise in PGS testing due to my age because I believe in the Doctor and wanted to follow him faithfully. I initially had wanted to try Clomid, but in my consult with him he said that he wouldn't advise it because it would be frustrating for him meaning that I wouldn't be successful in conception because I believe in him and appreciated his honesty about the clomid I felt my treatment would have to be his way, but I don't understand why for the second IVF attempt he wouldn't consider as an option a fresh transfer. when I mentioned opting out of PGS testing he didn't seem supportive. When I asked after my egg retrieval how long I should wait for to attempt another protocol because my husband and I are hoping for at least two children the Doctor seemed dismissive of my question perhaps it was because I asked right after egg retrieval surgery, however he should of answered me. I believe he tries to be very positive in nature, but in my opinion after my second egg retrieval I would of wished he would of come with a bit more medical options. He is a by the book Doctor and while I realize i'm no experiment and I appreciate him for not pushing anything medical on me I felt like a failure for him constantly mentioning there were other options such as adoption, or egg donor; I should of caught on to that on my first consult with him. I came to see this Doctor to feel as if I could find someone that would be willing to fight with me in beating my odds in infertility based on my age. I think he is a wonderful Doctor, but perhaps he works best for women under 36 and younger. I leave this clinic broken hearted and not willing to go a third round because I feel Dr. Levine isn't open to any other options with me and perhaps it was my age and he knew best, but he didn't want to consider my options. I'm sure he is wonderful with other patients that could produce better results.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Zalman Levine at Fertility Institute of New Jersey?
during your consult ask what would be the protocol he would put you on based on your age? and is the same for other women your age? is he open to other methods? Is PGS testing a must if you have no known genetic diseases? is he willing to do a fresh transfer based on your age?
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Zalman Levine at Fertility Institute of New Jersey?
Dr. Zalman Levine has a constant personality of positivity, he always asked how I was doing, remembered little details such as my bday. He has a wonderful bedside manner and seems caring.

First IVF got as far as transfer tested one PGS Normal (good quality) embryo- Gonal-F 450, Menopur 350, Ganarelix, estradiol, pio shots
second IVF only egg retrieval- Gonal-F 450, Menopu 350, ganarelix - retrieved four embryos, but according to Doctor Levine on Day 5 they were abnormal (they stopped growing).
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at Fertility Institute of New Jersey.
Some were more compassionate then others, but it probably didn't help that i was overly inquisitive. Michelle one of the nurses there is kind, but I wish she would of offered me the supplements list before my first IVF not after I called and mentioned that I have a friend currently treating with the clinic. On my second IVF i asked about the prices of one of the trigger shots because at the moment I was confusing it for another shot that I had payed for before egg transfer. I kept my trigger shot for another shot that I had before egg transfer, after she pulled us to the back office I was irritated by her comparing medications to running sneakers and her example of all running sneakers are the same; no they are not, not all runners use the same sneakers especially not avid runners depending on the shape or conditions of their feet the same applies to human beings and medications. while I hope she really didn't mean to seem condescending by also saying this one medication cost $1,000 versus this other medication it would of been enough if she would of just showed us what the medication looked like (which she did after to compare them) because I needed the visual. I am for the most part self pay of course I don't want to pay more than I am already paying, and I'm sure she is great at what she does, but comparing running sneakers to medication to patient care, and if I would prefer to pay more versus the other was not called for. I think at times even nurses forget what it feels to be a patient until they are on the other end. wanting to understand what one is paying for and asking shouldn't feel like as if the clinic is robbing you I just wanted to understand.
Describe your experience with Fertility Institute of New Jersey.
They get busy. Ashley at the front desk was always awesome. Allison the NP once called me after requesting to speak to Dr. Levine to call me, but he never got my message and had left on vacation she called and answered my questions and at that moment I learned and wished that I could speak more with Allison because it was the way she explained my questions that I felt she offered more of what I probably needed. TTC is such a tough journey I guess everyone offers something different and everyone there fills in emotionally on what you as a patient feel. I'm not here to attack the clinic I personally wished it would of worked with them. The billing department in my opinon awesome never had an issue Penny is great.

Describe Zalman Levine's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Fertility Institute of New Jersey.
The clinic is specific only one single embryo transfer.
Dr. Levine was open to transferring two embryos. He helped us understand the pros and cons of each option...[he] spent so much time and energy in making me feel cared for and like I was his one and only patient...He called me personally with the results of each of my blood work pregnancy tests and you could hear the compassion in his voice...
I love the nursing staff at FINJ&NY. I found them easy to talk to, helpful, clear and compassionate...[monitoring appointments were] very easy. Hours were from 6-9 and I never had to wait very long!..I think this clinic is excellent. The staff is warm and friendly and very helpful. Many of the staff had their own fertility challenges, which made them very empathetic. Very happy with my interactions
How was your experience with Zalman Levine at Fertility Institute of New Jersey?
Dr. Levine was extremely caring, compassionate and patient. He called me personally with the results of each of my blood work pregnancy tests and you could hear the compassion in his voice. There was one time when I did get pregnant and then later miscarried. He knew how much pain I was in and followed up a second time just to check in! Can't recommend him enough!
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Zalman Levine at Fertility Institute of New Jersey?
No specific advice - I always try to come to any doctors appointment with a list of my questions . I will say though - that sometimes I would think of a question after I left the room - and ask the nurse if I could ask him one last thing (even if he had gone on to the next room already) and they would usually work out for me to ask him something between patients
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Zalman Levine at Fertility Institute of New Jersey?
Dr. Levine spent so much time and energy in making me feel cared for and like I was his one and only patient. He asked about me, my job, my husband and when we came back for more fertility treatments after having successful pregnancy and babies with his help - he always asked about our kids. Every staff member I interacted with - treated me like a human! I knew every person by name - from the front desk ladies, to the nurses, to the woman who draws blood- I had friendly relationships with everyone there. When I returned for more fertility treatments after having my children - it was like "coming home" - everyone was so happy to see me and couldn't believe how much time had gone by since I'd last been a patient.
Describe the protocols Zalman Levine used in your cycles at Fertility Institute of New Jersey and their degree of success.
I started with letrizol and my body reacted somewhat, but not as fast as it should have. Then I tried a cycle of clomid which my body reacted poorly to. I did 2 IUIs. The first did not work. The second I got pregnant but I miscarried. I started a 3rd IUI using injectable medication this time. I overstimulated and we were able to change the cycle to become an egg retrieval instead of an IUI. I had a hx of miscarriages so I had them PGS tested. The clinic gave me the option of picking genders, but I wanted them to pick. Then I did a frozen embryo transfer and transferred two embryos and had twins!

Describe Zalman Levine's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Fertility Institute of New Jersey.
Dr. Levine did encourage a single embryo transfer.
Dr. Levine always asked about my family, my husband, my work, and made it a point to remember all the little details.... He was always kind and compassionate. I would go to him again and again. He was thorough and knowledgable.... The first two IUI's I used clomid, and then lectrozol because I did not react well with clomid.... The fresh embryo transfer was unsuccessful but my second frozen one was great. I was closely monitored. The first few weeks were spent ruling out genetics and other issues.
The practice [Fertility Institute of New Jersey] is beautiful. They have coffee, phone charging stations and water in the waiting room. I wish there was a place to lay my head to close my eyes but overall it is a pleasure to go. The staff at the front desk is always organized as well.... Describe Zalman Levine's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Fertility Institute of New Jersey.
As we did not test the eggs he let me place two eggs in each transfer which I greatly appreciated.
He [Dr. Levine] is very caring and makes you feel important. Came highly recommended from friends who have had successful pregnancies. He made an awkward situation with a gestational carrier much easier, which is not an easy thing to do. When we had a miscarriage he was very compassionate.... He is open to transferring 2 if need be which can be helpful to increase your odds of a successful pregnancy.... A few weeks of estrogen for my carrier and then the injectables.
Great location, very helpful accessible staff [Fertility Institute of New Jersey]. Even the people at the front desk and in billing are kind and compassionate. When you call them they try to solve the problem and will connect you with whoever they need. They are very fast when you ask them to do something. Surrogacy takes a lot of coordinating and they were very sensitive to our needs.... Very expensive because it is a gestational carrier but after our failed transfer they reduced the cost.

Describe your experience with Fertility Institute of New Jersey.
the 3 first treatments [with Dr. Inna Berin] i was with letrozole on CD3 for 5 days... and Timed Intercourse...the 2 IUIs i was on letrozole too...and 2 days before the iui i got Ovidrel...they monitored my ovulation to see if the medicine was working...nice and friendly... She made me feel that she cared about me, because when we did the first IUI she told me the risks and what to do if after 2 or 3 doesn't work ...that gave me hope, and i know I have a chance to have my baby...she's a good doctor, but this struggling is not easy , she know what she's doing , you just need to be patient.
my nurse [at The Fertility Institute of New Jersey] was so nice, she always explains me everything very clear... and when she calls me to give me indications she always ask me if i have questions, and she always say i can call her if i have questions, and all the staff was so friendly...i spent almost 1000 every month in appoiments ( 325, 275) and pills (70) for 3 months when i was in Timed Intercourse.. and then about 1700 in every IUI with appointments pills and shot plus the test...they are very professional , everything clean, and friendly staff... the only thing is the treatments prices for people with no insure, they are too high! sincerely i guess worth it, but in my case i stopped everything because i was paying everything from my packet, and i have no enough to do IVF
