This is the most recent data from the CDC. The CDC cautions that it should not be used to compare doctors and clinics. This data represents the outcomes of IVF cycles when using a person's own eggs.
For more information please see our FAQs.
Where you see a “?” on the chart, a clinic has done fewer than 20 cycles in this category and age range, so the CDC says showing percentages from this small data set would be misleading and unreliable.
I really liked Dr. Steingold at first and I think he truly does care about his patients. He was kind and communicative. However, I stopped seeing him because I think he was a little lazy when it came to some treatments.

What specific things went wrong at Fertility Institute of Virginia (closed)?
He [Dr. Anish Shah] is caring, he makes me feel at ease and makes light of the awkward conversation that might arise. He understands the pain and is always able to respond quickly... As a patient he treats me like a human, not a number... he addresses everything when he greets you, he’s quick during awkward procedures so you don’t feel alone, he always addresses a positive outcome no matter what, and says that we are in this journey together
[the clinic staff at Fertility Institute of VA] Calls you back usually within the same day, especially if it’s a sensitive matter. They are quick on filling out things that you may need and getting you worked in within the necessary time frame. Place is calming and the staff is always sweet.... Very sweet, always smiling and willing to listen... Blood work before starting treatment, needed prior medical records... took sperm from husband to check. Did sonohystagram to determine any blockages before offering solutions, looked over records to determine easiest and least invasive plan for first few times

[Dr. Michael Edelstein] Suggested which ovulation kits to purchase and when to call the office...speaks very fast and very detached from the process. Everything is very mater-of-fact. When giving his "spill" he did it the same as if we were a heterosexual couple trying to get pregnant...Strengths would be his longevity in the field and research. Weaknesses would be his length of time in the field. He seems detached and disinterested. If this is the 10,000th time he's given this spill it sure did feel like it
Very nice staff [at Fertility Institute of Virginia]...The facility seems very nice; however, the walls seems paper thin. Having two locations is ideal and being able to complete things electronically. The care team could do more to acknowledge the presence of the non-carrying parent. When with my spouse, I feel completely ignored as a patient...[Dr. Michael Edelstein] Suggested which ovulation kits to purchase and when to call the office...speaks very fast and very detached from the process. Zero bedside manner or compassion for the patients. He [Dr. Edelstein] wasn't willing to try anything outside of the standard if we did do a second retrieval...strong preference for single [embryo transfer]...he wanted to push a second round of IVF for the money when we still had 8 embryos elsewhere...he told me that my 2 miscarriages at the time did not count because they were all early
they [nurses of Fertility Institute of Virginia] were hard to get in contact with. They were nice in person...Communication was seriously lacking compared to the 3 other clinics that I've been to. If I didn't constantly call them, I would never get an answer or call back. The clinic is in a clean and easy to locate location. They tend to have long waits for some procedures.
