This is the most recent data from the CDC. The CDC cautions that it should not be used to compare doctors and clinics. This data represents the outcomes of IVF cycles when using a person's own eggs.
For more information please see our FAQs.
Where you see a “?” on the chart, a clinic has done fewer than 20 cycles in this category and age range, so the CDC says showing percentages from this small data set would be misleading and unreliable.
I only talked to {dr. Steven Gay] at initial consultation...He never really tried to figure out why we were having issues...didn't make any suggestions for supplements unless prompted which I found strange...no adjustments in any cycle or trying something different...was not given rational besides various different made up stats on how likely the IUI would work.
Shady Grove is a mass market clinic...issues with the billing team, and had to personally call to get the issue fixed after 3 months after sending a few messages. Expect to wait 20-40 minutes for your appointment as well...Katie is the best part of the experience. She explained the IUI to me
How was your experience with Steven Gay at Shady Grove Fertility Georgia?
I only talked to him at initial consultation. He said my blood work is relatively normal and my husband's mfi was not a concern. He never really tried to figure out why we were having issues. He also didn't make any suggestions for supplements unless prompted which I found strange.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Steven Gay at Shady Grove Fertility Georgia?
Expect a very by the book treatment plan. Infertility seems personal, but Dr. Gay either doesn't have the time or desire to find a good individual plan.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Steven Gay at Shady Grove Fertility Georgia?
You have very little interaction with the doctor. You are also given a by the book treatment plan. Even if it fails, there is no personalization or feedback. Just a try again.
Describe the protocols Steven Gay used in your cycles at Shady Grove Fertility Georgia and their degree of success.
Baseline tests, Letrozole 5 mg cd 3-7, ultrasound 7 days later to make sure lining and follicles were at least 18 mm, trigger and IUI procedure 2 days later. Husbands sperm was always 2-6x more than the recommend amount.
(no adjustments in any cycle or trying something different). I was not given rational besides various different made up stats on how likely the IUI would work. I would have like to be told exactly what could have gone wrong, but the phone call was always negative result, please do another IUI.
Describe your experience with your nurse at Shady Grove Fertility Georgia. (Assigned nurse: Katie)
Katie is the best part of the experience. She explained the IUI to me (Dr. Gay never explained the procedure). She was available during work hours to answer questions. In fact, Dr. Gay ghosted me after my last IUI, but Katie called to confirm the negative results.

Describe Steven Gay's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Shady Grove Fertility Georgia.
Not mention since we did not pursue ivf with him. He's very upfront with multiples and when I asked if IUI could result in multiples (only 4% chance) he immediately said that ivf is the only way to make sure you don't have multiples.

Describe the protocols Steven Gay used in your cycles at Shady Grove Fertility Georgia and their degree of success.
We went knowing I had PCOS. We did a lot of blood test including genetic testing. My husband had his sperm Check as well by giving a sample. Everything looked perfect. Then I got my period naturally which was great and a few days after I went to have an ultrasound to check the sizes of my eggs (maturity). It took 3 attempts to get them to the perfect size. Doctor Gay prescribed letrozle to help my eggs to get mature enough for the treatment once they were mature enough I got an injection in my belly 2 days before the procedure.the day of the procedure my husband delivered his sample very early in the morning around 7-8 am and then we went together and it took less than an hour. Two weeks after I went for a pregnancy blood test early in the morning at 8 and they called us around 1pm to give us the good news we were pregnant. We did an ultrasound the next visit we were 6 weeks and two weeks after we had our last appointment in the fertility clinic we had our last ultrasound with them when we saw our little baby moving and taking shape already.

Describe the protocols Monica Best used in your cycles at Shady Grove Fertility Georgia and their degree of success.
I had already done countless rounds of Letrozole, but Dr. Best added monitoring and a trigger shot to better pinpoint ovulation. When one cycle of that didn't work, she added an injection of Gonal-f as well, which is the cycle I got pregnant. She did not want to do a full injections cycle due to my PCOS, and since I got pregnant she was clearly right!

Describe the costs associated with your care under Monica Best at Shady Grove Fertility Georgia.
I had no insurance coverage for infertility, so Dr. Best and her team did what they could to minimize costs. I paid out of pocket for everything, including diagnostic tests and medications. Shady Grove did transfer discounts to their preferred pharmacy, which was a huge help. Dr. Best was also selective about which diagnostic tests she repeated to reduce costs.
Describe Monica Best's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Shady Grove Fertility Georgia.
We were planning to move on to IVF the next cycle if we did not have success. She let me know that because I was planning on doing pgs testing on the embryos it was in my best interest to only transfer one.
She [Dr. McCarthy- Keith] always greeted me by name and had clearly reviewed my file or remembered me from previous treatment. I never felt there were too many patients or rushed at any of my appointments....I felt she was very knowledgeable and did a wonderful job explaining everything to me. Always made me feel comfortable even when delivering bad news.... Because I had unexplained infertility she started off with a round of IUI. After that it was determined that IVF would likely be our best bet.
The clinic [GA Repro Specialists] has a wonderful staff and the atmosphere at the Meridian Mark Office is fantastic... They always worked with me on my schedule. I was always seen at my scheduled time which helped since I was working. I felt very at ease, even when things were not going as planned.... A nurse was also always available to answer questions when I called, and if I had to leave a message the call was returned promptly.... The nurses seemed to be very knowledgeable and always able to answer questions.

Because I had unexplained infertility she started off with a round of IUI. After that it was determined that IVF would likely be our best bet. I was given a plan and the first round I had to stop due to a polyp on my uterus. I had the surgery to remove that and then we proceeded with our round. I began the medications and had the egg retrieval which produced 18 eggs. After fertilization we had 13 eggs fertilize to create embryos but only 6 lasted until day 5. Because of our ages we had the genetic testing done. Of the 6 embryos only one was viable. We transferred the one embryo and received a positive pregnancy test. At our ultrasound appointment it was determined that I had a blighted ovum and in fact was not pregnant.

After reviewing my med list from other IVF doctor, she said she will increase my dosage and recommended DHEA & CoQ10 to increase my egg quality due to my 1st retrieval being 10 eggs with only 2 fertilizing. She also stated I should continue acupuncture & change my diet and incorporate exercise.

My first cycle I was out on Fermera to induce ovulation. As a PCOS patient, an ovulation is something I struggle with. Although this first cycle didn’t work with timed Intercourse, we moved on to an IUI.
For this IUI, I was on Clomid 150mg. I received great response from Clomid and my follicles grew tremdnously to 19mm! The IUI was successful in retrieving my husbands sperm through sperm washing; however, the IUI didn’t work overall.

$1000–between two cycles of medication, 1 IUI procedure and my husbands sperm washing. As well as co-pays for monitoring visits.
I was 38 when we started our first round of IVF. She [Dr. McCarthy-Keith] prescribed the max dosages of meds, we visited the office every 2 days for blood tests and vaginal ultrasounds. The first round produced 6 eggs and by Day 3 we were called that morning to do a fresh transfer with 2 embryos. I can't say it was right or wrong, BUT when we approached the 2nd egg retrieval NOTHING was changed. We did the same procedures, same dosages, & Dr.MK didn't do my egg retrieval.
[nurse at Shady Grove Fertility Atlanta] was caring, and personable. She remembered little things about us and was always excited to see us...The first retrieval we spent max 10k on the procedure and meds after we maxed our insurance allowance. The second retrieval we spent 20k on the procedure, biopsy, & meds. After our follow up this year we were quoted 25k if we chose them for another round.
How was your experience with Desiree McCarthy-Keith at Shady Grove Fertility Georgia?
Dr. MK was a great seller. After becoming experienced patients, we noticed there were many things that she allowed to slip through the cracks. We were called by Dr. MK for results from a biopsy on our final embryo where she disclosed that it wasn't viable. Apologized and suggested a donor's egg next time. We didn't hear from her nor the office after that.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Desiree McCarthy-Keith at Shady Grove Fertility Georgia?
Don't let her sell you on something, do what's best for your budget, health, & do a lot of research.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Desiree McCarthy-Keith at Shady Grove Fertility Georgia?
There was more communication about the finances than it was about our end results of the 2nd retrieval. We didn't find out details of the 2nd failed attempt UNTIL a year and a half later.
Georgia Reproductive was bought by Shady Grove fertility and it seemed impersonal after that.

We are content with either decision.

Dr. McCarthy-Keith is super knowledgeable, thorough, and kind! When she called with my pregnancy test results I could hear the pure joy in her voice. She really cares about her patients and that is so crucial when you work in such a sensitive field...I have Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome so I do not ovulate on a regular basis. So we decided to do a medicated IUI to be able to better time my insemination. If I remember correctly, I took 2.5mg of letrazole for 7 days starting on the third day of my cycle. On cycle day 11/12 I believe (I don't quite remember) I went in for an ultrasound and had 1 follicle measuring at 24mm. That same evening as my ultrasound at 10pm I took a trigger shot of Ovidrel to force ovulation. My IUI was 36 hours later. 11 days past insemination I had my first positive pregnancy test. I was blessed enough to conceive on my first attempt!
The clinic [Shady Grove Fertility Altlanta] is beautiful, well designed, and clean. You never have a long wait. Refreshments are available in the waiting room. Describe the protocols Desiree McCarthy-Keith used in your cycles at Shady Grove Fertility Georgia and their degree of success.
I have Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome so I do not ovulate on a regular basis.

The staff is professional and helpful. They returned phone calls and emails promptly to address any of my concerns.

The clinic is beautiful, well designed, and clean. You never have a long wait. Refreshments are available in the waiting room. I would definitely recommend this facility to anyone ready to start a family.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Desiree McCarthy-Keith at Shady Grove Fertility Georgia.
I had a $50 copay for each visit including my IUI. My donor sperm which i got from California Cryobank cost about $2000 for 2 vials that is including shipping. My genetic testing was partially covered by insurance but still left me with a responsibility of about $900 in total I probably spent about $3500

Describe the specific things that went wrong at Shady Grove Fertility Georgia.
There was just a simple miscommunication between the nursing staff and the front desk. It was quickly resolved once the mistake was caught.
Dr. Katler takes his work seriously...is reliable and knowledgeable...He always had our best interest in mind...6 medicated IUI cycles...After the fifth attempt, Dr. Katler advised us to think about using a different sperm donor...we pivoted to IVF so we could use the same donor...shared with us that he is part of the LGBTQ+ community
Shady Grove is reliable...runs like a well-oiled machine...have the resources of a national organization, but we consistently saw the same few providers who got to know us very well. Sometimes reaching SGF is frustrating. Everything is done through the patient portal and leaving voicemails
How was your experience with Quinton Katler at Shady Grove Fertility Georgia?
Dr. Katler takes his work seriously. He knows that families depend on him. He is reliable and knowledgeable. I would go back to Dr. Katler again and again. He showed us how much we can trust him. He uses his knowledge and passion to support our family and make this process easier for us. He always had our best interest in mind. He spoke to us with directness and respect every time, even when the news was hard to hear.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Quinton Katler at Shady Grove Fertility Georgia?
You will see lots of people throughout your visits at Shady Grove, but Dr. Katler and Teena are your team. You can trust them to know your situation and take care of your needs and answer your questions. The rest of the doctors and staff at Shady Grove are wonderful - don't worry if one of your procedures is with an unexpected person. Dr. Katler is always overseeing everything.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Quinton Katler at Shady Grove Fertility Georgia?
Dr. Katler gave us his time and attention. He got to know us. He joked with us in gentle and appropriate ways, never excessively. He empathized with our feelings throughout this emotionally intense experience. He clearly saw himself as partially responsible for our success.
Describe the protocols Quinton Katler used in your cycles at Shady Grove Fertility Georgia and their degree of success.
I had 6 medicated IUI cycles. We used letrozole on the first few cycles, then letrozole and clomid. I responded better when the clomid was added. Then we used a trigger shot when my follicles were big enough. After the fifth attempt, Dr. Katler advised us to think about using a different sperm donor. He was very direct but gentle in the suggestion because he knows that we are attached to our known donor. We decided to do one more IUI, then we pivoted to IVF so we could use the same donor. I don't remember the exact medications I did, but I did a few weeks of shots in preparation for my egg retrieval. Then a few days before the embryo transfer, I started daily PIO (progesterone-in-oil) shots along with Estradiol pills and prometrium vaginal suppositories. I continued that regimen until week 10 of my pregnancy.
Describe your experience with your nurse at Shady Grove Fertility Georgia. (Assigned nurse: Teena Paradise)
Teena is a hoot. She has been working at Shady Grove for a long time, and she did a great job explaining the entire process to us many times over. She is very personable and kind. She made us feel at home.
Describe your experience with Shady Grove Fertility Georgia.
Shady Grove is reliable. It runs like a well-oiled machine. They have the resources of a national organization, but we consistently saw the same few providers who got to know us very well.
Sometimes reaching SGF is frustrating. Everything is done through the patient portal and leaving voicemails. A few times I called the front desk to ask my nurse a time-sensitive question, and that wasn't usually possible. That being said, our nurse was always responsive and supportive. She didn't have anything to do with the occasional communication challenges. It's just built into the system. It wasn't a big deal, but it was annoying here and there.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Quinton Katler at Shady Grove Fertility Georgia.
Each IUI procedure was $2000. We used a known donor, and the cost from start to finish for that process was $3000. We opted for the "shared risk" IVF package meaning we paid more up front but we are guaranteed a live birth or we get our money back. We paid $26,000. We also paid about $100 for medications per IUI cycle. We paid roughly $5000 on IVF medication.
Describe Quinton Katler's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Shady Grove Fertility Georgia.
Dr. Katler was not open to multiple embryo transfer in my case. He said that due to my age and the genetic health of my embryo, it was very likely that the embryo would implant. He said that transferring multiple embryos would increase the likelihood of a high risk pregnancy.
How competent was Shady Grove Fertility Georgia at LGBTQ+ care?
They were great! Several of the providers wear pride gear. Our doctor shared with us that he is part of the LGBTQ+ community. Other staff members were affirming and kind. My wife attended every single appointment with me, and they included her in all decision-making. They always made sure she was respected as part of the family we are creating.
[Dr. Pavna Brahma] understood my situation and what I wanted...She took that into consideration and put me on moderate doses...only saw Dr Brahma for a consult and before I started egg freezing...I think Dr Brahma only reviewed my ultrasounds and meds everyday...protocol was an antagonist protocol with Lupron trigger
[Shady Grove Fertility Atlanta is] a good clinic...wish they offered training classes on how to inject and mix meds...hard to get a hold of financial department, but they have an option to book a consult...Nurses were good, they responded back quickly when I had questions...was on FOLLISTIM and Menopur but my treatment calender kept saying gonal f.
How was your experience with Pavna Brahma at Shady Grove Fertility Georgia?
She understood my situation and what I wanted, I didn’t want max dosages and I wanted to keep my remaining ovary and tube healthy. She took that into consideration and put me on moderate doses. I liked that she acknowledged that, because another doctor at another facility wanted to put me on max dosages and I was scared of ovarian torsion which is how I lost my left side ovary and tube when I was much younger. I felt like Dr Brahma really understood that this was important to me
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Pavna Brahma at Shady Grove Fertility Georgia?
Egg freezing is probably not as involved as IVF so you probably won’t see her as much if you only do ER.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Pavna Brahma at Shady Grove Fertility Georgia?
I only saw Dr Brahma for a consult and before I started egg freezing, I mainly talked to her nurse throughout the process and I think Dr Brahma only reviewed my ultrasounds and meds everyday.
Describe the protocols Pavna Brahma used in your cycles at Shady Grove Fertility Georgia and their degree of success.
I was on Menopur, Follistim at moderate dosages. Coming into the office every 2 days and then coming every day after my follicles got to a certain size. My protocol was an antagonist protocol with Lupron trigger
Describe your experience with your nurse at Shady Grove Fertility Georgia. (Assigned nurse: Dana Chen)
Nurses were good, they responded back quickly when I had questions (and I had a lot of them) and mostly were on top of things when I had to order more meds and needed them to send it to another pharmacy last minute. I think my nurse was training and was new which kind of scared me but she was good regardless
Describe your experience with Shady Grove Fertility Georgia.
It’s a good clinic, no problems with me personally and this clinic. Making a first appointment was a little tricky because the doctors are so booked out. But after you’re in, it’s pretty easy to manage it. Also I wish they offered training classes on how to inject and mix meds. Either a class or one on one with a nurse in office.
It’s pretty hard to get a hold of financial department, but they have an option to book a consult. I wish there was a way that there were more slots for consults though.
Describe your experience with your monitoring appointments at Shady Grove Fertility Georgia.
I could get appointments before work at 830. So my appointments could be at 715 and usually at that time it would be very fast, the later the appointment is in the day for monitoring you might be there for a full hour which is annoying
Describe the costs associated with your care under Pavna Brahma at Shady Grove Fertility Georgia.
Most of my care is covered by insurance thankfully. So I haven’t had to pay alot out of pocket. I did have to pay out of pocket for some meds to meet deductible, so in total paid 6K so far.

Something minor and kind of annoyed me but at the end of the day it wasn’t that bad. I was on FOLLISTIM and Menopur but my treatment calender kept saying gonal f. On the phone with the nurses multiple times they kept saying Gonal F instead of follistim. Not a huge deal but it kind of annoyed me
She [Dr. Desiree McCarthy-Keith] is patient, thorough and always willing to explain her recommendations until the patient is satisfied. She's incredibly intelligent and nonjudgmental - truly a special person. I could not be more satisfied with my treatment and the rapport we were able to establish...She empathized deeply with my emotions, both good and bad. I love everything about this [Shady Grove Fertility Atlanta] clinic. It's clean, bright and full of cheerful, lovely women. I never once felt frustrated by my treatment in two years, which is saying a lot! The billing department is the weakest link in a smooth operation. Dealing with them was the only time I felt the familiar annoyance of managing sluggish bureaucrats but thankfully, those moments were few and far between.

Give as much as you want to receive. You will not be disappointed. Trust and be flexible: she's doing her best to juggle a full load but she has you - the person - in mind at all times, and will always look out for your best interest without forcing you down a path you don't want to go.

Because I had three failed transfers and uterine fibroids initially, she recommended that I take baby aspirin to improve blood flow to the uterus, as well as steroids (Medrol) to reduce inflammation post fibroid surgery. I also took estrogen three times a day (1x orally, 2x orally and vaginally), as well as progesterone capsules 2x a day (vaginally) and IM progesterone in ethyl oleate 1x per day.
Describe your experience with your nurse at Shady Grove Fertility Georgia. (Assigned nurse: Kelly)
Everyone was so supportive, kind and capable. I connected with a lot of the staff personally and, by the end, we were on a first name basis. No one was flippant with my care or gave me bad information. Kelly was amazing and I'm so grateful for her.

Describe the costs associated with your care under Desiree McCarthy-Keith at Shady Grove Fertility Georgia.
I was in the Shared Risk Program so most of my care was covered under that. I paid approximately $300 per visit when I had a miscarriage and for my OB sonograms, and paid for the anaesthesiologist during my retrieval.
Describe Desiree McCarthy-Keith's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Shady Grove Fertility Georgia.
She did not recommend multiple embryo transfer because of my age and the higher risk of twinning. I had no preference but I'm glad we opted for the single transfer.
His [Dr. Quinton Katler] ability to make a patient feel like they matter and they are not just "another number" is admirable, despite working in a very busy practice. Dr. Katler remained consistent and supportive through the process, answered questions honestly and provided guidance and research to support his recommendations. Some fertility specialists have great results, but completely forget about you the moment your BHCG result is in. However, Dr. Katler continues to check on me and support my progress throughout pregnancy.
Scheduling was easy. [Shady Grove Fertility Atlanta] Patient portal is easy to navigate. My primary nurse/CC was out for a while so there was a lag in communication, but I was able to communicate with my MD via the portal when I had questions and while waiting on the RN to return...If I would ever need to go through infertility treatments again, there is no doubt in my mind that I would chose Dr. Katler.
How was your experience with Quinton Katler at Shady Grove Fertility Georgia?
There are no words to describe the level of personalized care that Dr. Katler provides. Starting from the first consult, and all the way through initial OB care, he has been absolutely phenomenal. In a field as emotional and heartbreaking as infertility, the provider's ability to connect and communicate with the patient is of utmost importance, and Dr. Katler excels at just that. How was your experience with Desiree McCarthy-Keith at Shady Grove Fertility Georgia?
We choose Dr. MK solely based on her honesty with us. After vetting 4 Dr's in the area, we felt that she was the most upfront and honest about our chances of conceiving whereas previous Dr's made us feel it was going to be easy to get pregnant, we just pay and start the process. Dr.MK was honest about our actual chances of conceiving and told us at the end of the day she has to look herself in the mirror knowing she gave her patients an honest reality of what to expect going forward. We respected this Dr so much for her honesty, and kind manor in which she told us.
Dr.MK is a kind Dr whose goal is to get your pregnant, a win for you is a win for her! We met with her only a few times but when I was peeved with one of the nurses that was assigned to me and I was glad that Dr.MK personally called me to clarify the situation.
There were only a select few times we were unclear of Dr. MK's communication between nurse and us (patients), that we had to go back and clarify.
Dr.MK was willing to try different options to our treatment that I had asked about, however I do wish that she had recommeneded I be put to sleep for an ERA, after knowing that a sonohysterogram was far too painful for me. They allowed me to go through a month of hormones for an ERA only to have to cancel the entire procedure b/c it was far too painful and there was no option to put me asleep while on the table trying to do the ERA. (I personally felt this was an absolute waste of time, money and hormones for a whole month to have this be cancelled, when if she had recommended & planned I be put to sleep for the ERA, we could have done it.
I will also add that I got a pelvic infection from the egg retrieval and was hospitalized. I don't fully attribute it to Dr.MK however I was disappointed at how dismissed I was at such a serious matter.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Desiree McCarthy-Keith at Shady Grove Fertility Georgia?
Dr. MK will be honest and up front with you. She may not be up-to-date with "new" IVF standards OR that Shady Grove may not be able to do them, but she is willing to help in any way.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Desiree McCarthy-Keith at Shady Grove Fertility Georgia?
There were only a handful of times I felt like the Dr. confused me with a different patient. I had to clarify to the Dr. that her information on me and my case wasn't correct to what she was telling me, she apologized.
Describe the protocols Desiree McCarthy-Keith used in your cycles at Shady Grove Fertility Georgia and their degree of success.
My first egg retrieval was pretty straight forward, however it was cancelled due to that fact that I didn't have enough follicles and I ovulated too soon. Our second egg retrieval was successful, we used the same protocal through not using Cetrotide, we used Lupron which was much more successful. We say I'm a "slow grower" the Lupron gave my body more time to get follicles ready. Gonal F, Menopur and Lupron are the meds we used for egg retrieval. I was also given antibiotics to start the day before retrieval and to take two days after, which I did get a pelvic infection and was hospitalized. I personally think I needed to start the antibiotics sooner and take them longer to help this from having.
For the embryo transfer a 7 day course of birth control was used to get my body ready, then daily patches of estrogen and the last few days before transfer we added the progesterone shots. My uterine linning was 9.5 and the staff was elated! Although ours ended in a chemical pregnancy.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at Shady Grove Fertility Georgia.
The biggest disappointment we had at Shady Grove was their nursing staff.
For my first egg retrieval I was assigned a nurse and she was AMAZING... she helped to calm any fears that I had and walked us through every little step and she was so compassionate. She was obviously great at her job and she got promoted. So, when we did our second egg retrieval we were assigned a new nurse and it wasn't anywhere near the quality our first nurse was.
Throughout our treatment I felt like I was a ball that was bounced around from nurse to nurse, I think I had about 5 different nurses. It was so confusing and frustrating to us and at times maddening. Some got me confused with my protocol that I had to remind them what I was doing- so it's important that YOU stay on top of your protocol and don't rely on the nurses.
We were extremely disappointed with the nurse that shurgged my pain off, after 7 days from the egg retrieval I called the nurse that was on call over the weekend to explain I was in pain. This nurse told me that my pain was too far out from the egg retrieval and that they wouldn't treat me, that I must call in my primary Dr. This was in the middle of the pandemic- so my primary Dr called me in more of the same antibiotics, they said it could be a UTI. However if I wasn't better within 5 days I needed to go to the ER, or call back. Exactly 5 days later I was running a 102 fever and was taken to the hospital where they discovered I had a 6cm mass in my abdomen. I was treated with more antibiotics kept over night and told to contact my fertility Dr. immediately the following day. Two days after my hospital stay, SGF scheduled me for a sonogram with Dr. Namnoum. Dr. N saw us and was concerned very upset at the staff nurse that shrugged me off. I was then treated with 3 antibiotics for two weeks, and I don't think I had ever felt so awful or sick before.
For our embryo transfer we were scheduled with a nurse who was located out of state and that was very frustrating. I got the feeling that SGF was overwhelmed with patients and were using nurses out of state- like we got. I wasn't happy with our nurse, she often contradicted Dr. KM's medicine protocol for us, her bedside manner was horrible. She told me after retrieval that I wasn't pregnant before Dr.MK could review my labs. What resulted was the Dr.MK wanted to give us more time on progesterone for the embryo to grow. I never trusted that nurse and if we went back to SGF I'd never work with this nurse again.
Describe your experience with Shady Grove Fertility Georgia.
Shady Grove Fertility is strong in good doctors, however if you're a patient you will rarely see your Dr. You will be mostly communicating with the nursing staff and this is where they fall short. Also, if your Dr. is not on call when your egg retrieval is scheduled or for your embryo transfer, you will be assigned which-ever doctor is on call.
In this stressful, often confusing, lonely and sad world of trying to conceive as patients we need a nurse & staff that is reliable in answering questions and answering phones. When I would speak to the nurse to ask a question their response was mostly "I don't know, let me ask the Dr. and get back to you". This became a constant response, even when I asked "can I take ibuprofen or Tylenol for pain", the nurse herself couldn't answer and I would have to wait hours for an online email response.
In our experience their nursing staff isn't well educated (IE: a pelvic infection that was shrugged off and then resulted in hospital stay), or prepaired to handle this area of medicine. They weren't trustworthy, often they confused me with another patient and would give the wrong information when it came to medicine. Simply, they were unable to offer the support an infertility patient truly needs from beginning to end of and IVF cycle.
We only had one nurse who was absolutely amazing at SGF all else fell short.
Describe your experience with your monitoring appointments at Shady Grove Fertility Georgia.
Most monitor visits are in the morning hours and you are often with many other women there for the same reason. Monitor lists were easy, in and out with no problem, I always felt they were efficient in getting me in and out quickly.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Desiree McCarthy-Keith at Shady Grove Fertility Georgia.
1 egg retrieval plus embryo transfer and meds was about 30k.
What specific things went wrong at Shady Grove Fertility Georgia?
As an African-American woman infertility is hard to talk about, most of my family and friends get pregnant at the drop of a dime. Infertility is very taboo in most Black communities. It was important to have a doctor that I could relate to not only by race but by age. Dr. M also had her children later in life which made me feel so at ease...She went through extensive testing with me and found that my numbers were usually not that far off from normal. Which gave and still gives me hope!
The clinic [at Shady Grove Fertility] was very thoughtful and concise and walked you through every step of the process from insurance to testing pricing to next visits. It was a seamless process...they were willing to step out anyway possible to make my husband feel more comfortable. It was a breath of fresh air...I started in 2016 with my initial consult and my testing with ultrasound. At that time my husband and I were not ready to commit to the process. During my initial testing the staff was amazing! In 2020, we know it will be the same as we forge forward with IVF.
How was your experience with Desiree McCarthy-Keith at Shady Grove Fertility Georgia?
I first went to Dr. McCarthy in 2016 and was not sure if I even wanted to go through with infertility treatment. She helped me with the stigma and shame of aborting two children in my younger age, only to be married and reach my 40’s and feel that I had been punished for wanting a child now. Dr. M went over all of my options and I was able to see that I wasn’t being punished, second onset infertility was just a part of life sometimes.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Desiree McCarthy-Keith at Shady Grove Fertility Georgia?
Be honest about your medical history and your personal needs.

It was important to have a doctor that I could relate to not only by race but by age. Dr. M also had her children later in life which made me feel so at ease. She made me see brightness at the end of a very shameful tunnel that I never thought I’d pass. Dr. M made me feel at home and not too somber about my fertility woes. She went through extensive testing with me and found that my numbers were usually not that far off from normal. Which gave and still gives me hope!
Describe the protocols Desiree McCarthy-Keith used in your cycles at Shady Grove Fertility Georgia and their degree of success.
In 2016 we went through initial testing and family history that would be helpful in looking at the big picture of my infertility. My husband andI just weren’t on the same page at that time about parenting. In 2020, we have bonded closer and are willing to give fertility treatments a try. Dr. M was very understanding of my husbands reservations, and did everything she could to ease the stigma of not being able to have children together.

The clinic was very thoughtful and concise and walked you through every step of the process from insurance to testing pricing to next visits. It was a seamless process. My husband was not the most cooperative partner when it came to this subject, he believed that it was in God’s hands. The staff was very thoughtful through this process as they relayed that this was sometimes a common response of men, but they were willing to step out anyway possible to make my husband feel more comfortable. It was a breath of fresh air.

We have not gotten to this point as of yet, but from friends that love Dr. M it’s approximately $30,000 for six rounds of IVF.
Describe Desiree McCarthy-Keith's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Shady Grove Fertility Georgia.
Dr. McCarthy-Keith always greets me by name. She personally calls me ensure I am okay. She asked me how she could make my experience better. She showed me compassion and cried with me when I lost pregnancies. Did everything in her power to tweak my protocol when necessary...Strengths: very thorough, explains things in detail and in a comprehensive manner...Weakness: has a go to protocol when she can’t figure out the issue
the entire clinic [Shady Grove Fertility Atlanta] from other nurses to other MDs and NPs were extremely friendly and personable. If I had to be seen by someone else in the practice, I felt like they had known me for forever...The front desk didn’t answer their phone consistently...Lisa, Devon and Rita we the best nursing team...The last transfer resulted in my daughter.
How was your experience with Desiree McCarthy-Keith at Shady Grove Fertility Georgia?
Strengths: very thorough, explains things in detail and in a comprehensive manner. Treats me like her family- not a number, a patient or a stranger
Weakness: has a go to protocol when she can’t figure out the issue but she does everything to ensure she doesn’t have to use a template protocol

Trust Dr. MK and trust the process!

I was on birth control first. Then I stimulated with Menopur and Gonal-F. I stimulated ovulation with Ovidrel and went to egg retrieval 36 hours later.
It was a freeze-all cycle….. PGS of 3 embryos…..
Did FET (single transfer) and had a positive pregnancy test. That resulted in MC and so did the next 5 transfers. The 6th and 7th transfers were chemicals and the 8th and 9th was another MC. The last transfer resulted in my daughter. But I started fixing my PCOS on my own by daily jogs and diet changes

Describe Desiree McCarthy-Keith's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Shady Grove Fertility Georgia.
Because I was so young at the time, I was only allowed to do eSET. No regrets
I had one meeting with Dr Stentz. I felt confident in the ability for me to conceive using IVF. I remember being ashamed that I failed at conceiving naturally when it mattered most. I just remember leaving the consult more positive than I did when I went in...I didn’t see Dr Stentz after my consult ( maybe once or twice throughout)...it was reassuring that they were confident in our success odds.
[Shady Grove Fertility Atlanta is] sort of a conveyor belt situation That manages to capture compassion. I believe there need to be more clinics like this that offer affordable options for this vital service...[the nurses are] all Shades of wonderful. The best nurse I have ever worked with from a patient’s perspective (I am a nurse manager)...They made things easy and had so much compassion.
How was your experience with Natalie Stentz at Shady Grove Fertility Georgia?
I didn’t see Dr Stentz after my consult ( maybe once or twice throughout). Her nurses are the best!! Absolute gems. They made things easy and had so much compassion.
Dr Stentz helped me understand that I was ready to start the procedure and tried to make sure I understood finances by linking me up with a financial advisor immediately after the visit.
I had just found out that I had bilateral hydrosalpinx and removed both my Fallopian tubes a few months earlier. I was feeling very bad because I was taking the blame for “frying” my tubes when I needed to be making our family. It was a very stressful time for me and I feel like she truly empathized. I felt that way and it made me feel better.
She laid out a potential plan for me and ensured me that my age made me a viable candidate for the shared risk program (which we couldn’t afford). Although, our finances didn’t allow us choose this option, it was reassuring that they were confident in our success odds.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Natalie Stentz at Shady Grove Fertility Georgia?
Don’t blame yourself. Make sure you have a support system because it’s lonely going through this alone.
So far Dr Stentz has Shady are a decent company. I sometimes wonder if I should have gotten a second opinion before my salpinjectomy with Dr Schirmer at Emory.

I believe there need to be more clinics like this that offer affordable options for this vital service. We took out a loan of 20,000 and have no baby. To do an FET we have been saving to make sure we have a little over $5000 to pay for that.
There is an added layer of stress when you know you have to make it work. It’s just something that families shouldn’t have to deal with because they suffer from infertility.

I would rather double and requested them. I have strong breast cancer links in my family and recently had to do a biopsy bilaterally to r/o cancer. I just want to have as less hormonal shifts as I can control. With each cycle (being that our first one failed) and my next mammogram was abnormal, I don’t want to have too many more.

I had my brother dropping me off for my retrieval because my husband was out of the state . The day before, I informed the clinic staff that I wanted everything to be confidential as my brother did not know I was undergoing treatments. I ask to speak with several people to make sure my appointment was run smoothly. I specifically told they to not discuss anything in the lobby or ask if he wanted to come to the back with me. The very next day, they did both things and I had to tell my brother I am infertile.
After reviewing our massive file and meeting with us, we asked [Dr. Namnoum] if there was any hope. She said I see no reason that you cannot have a success pregnancy. Then she went to work for us...was very kind, compassionate and supportive. She is the most hands-on and thorough doctor we encountered. She personally attended almost every ultrasound (and there were countless) and personally called us with test results. She was very encouraging when we encountered mid-cycle delays. It took us 3 IVF attempts with donor eggs before Dr. Namnoum helped us realize our dreams of parenthood. I am now 19 weeks pregnant.
We selected Shady Grove Fertility because it was the only local clinic that offered a guarantee (shared risk) program...guarantee program - $30,500 for live birth or money back...Dr. Namnoum was very kind, compassionate and supportive. How was your experience with Anne Brawner Namnoum at Shady Grove Fertility Georgia?
We went to three different fertility clinics over a period of seven years to get our miracle. One doctor told us that I am one of the 5% of women who cannot conceive for whatever reason, nobody knows why. He told us to forget about adopting because they don’t want older people to adopt. After the heartbreak and tears because we thought we were done, we found Shady Grove Fertility and more importantly, we found Dr. Namnoum. After reviewing our massive file and meeting with us, we asked her if there was any hope. She said I see no reason that you cannot have a success pregnancy. Then she went to work for us. We selected Shady Grove Fertility because it was the only local clinic that offered a guarantee (shared risk) program. That was the best decision we could have made.

Dr. Perloe was always warm and inviting, never leaving you in the dark about what will or not happen. You could tell him and his staff were very invested in helping me in conceiving a child.... Based on my test results he would adjust my medicine I was taking. He suggested things that would increase my chances like this drink mixture Ovistol which I think helped.... Due to my many fibroids, Perloe thought it would be too risky for me to transfer more than 1 embryo. I trusted his decision because my goal was to bring a healthy child and mommy home. For every decision he gave a valid reason(s).
The nurses [Shady Grove Atlanta] wanted nothing but to make the process as comfortable and easy as possible. They would make themselves available for questions, comfort you on your bad days, help you find inexpensive medicine, and give advice. They greeted you with a warm smile... One of the nurses comforted me during one of my many crying breakdowns. She would not leave me until I felt better. She gave me kind words and encouragement to keeping pushing forwards because great things were waiting.
How was your experience with Mark Perloe (retired) at Shady Grove Fertility Georgia?
From the beginning, Perloe explained all the possible risks, setbacks, and possibilities. We were never set up for a disappoint. We knew what to expect. He treated us like he wanted the child just as bad as we did. He was open to answering all questions or concerns.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Mark Perloe (retired) at Shady Grove Fertility Georgia?
Don’t be afraid to ask questions or express concerns if you feel confused or worried. Trust the process.

One of the nurses comforted me during one of my many crying breakdowns. She would not leave me until I felt better. She gave me kind words and encouragement to keeping pushing forwards because great things were waiting. Another nurse made herself readily available if I needed help, had any questions or concerns, or needed help finding medicine quick and easy. Dr. Perloe was always warm and inviting, never leaving you in the dark about what will or not happen. You could tell him and his staff were very invested in helping me in conceiving a child. Also, the ladies that took blood sample were always upbeat and funny, they were very encouraging.

Dr. McCarthy-Keith was an amazing RE. She's the type of person you hope to meet every time you walk into a RE's office. She is very patient, understanding, detailed and provides a wealth of knowledge to her patients. As cycles 1-3 failed, she explained the need to be slightly more aggressive with our treatment plan. Even so far as when we were at risk for a cancelled cycle due to having too many follicles, explaining how with our history she would consider continuing, but ensuring that we understood the risk.
There is a parking garage that they [Shady Grove] share with the rest of the building, Please be mindful to arrive earlier that 15 minutes to allow yourself time to find parking and still make it up to your appointment early. Also, there is a parking fee. For self-pay patients like myself, every little dollar counts.... They [nurses] are all friendly and caring. I think they take notes whenever they speak with someone so that helps keep communication flowing if someone is absent.

She explained the different options available, follicular reduction and the dreaded potential of having to terminate. She explained it as though we were sitting on her couch. It didn't feel like we were in school and needed to take notes, we didn't need google translate or a dictionary to have a conversation.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Desiree McCarthy-Keith at Shady Grove Fertility Georgia?
Trust the process. Don't be afraid to ask questions, she is always willing to answer any questions. Also with that, don't overfill your head with so much that you challenge every decision made.

I always felt like I was important with her. She always made sure to greet us in the hallways, and it would even be by name. I see a number of patients in the office just on the days I visited, I feel it would be hard for anyone to keep up with but Dr. MK makes it look like a breeze. She always made sure I was comfortable with what she was doing, if she had someone new in the room she would introduce and even ask if I was ok with that person being present. With 5 failed cycles you start to feel like its never going to happen but Dr. MK never gives up on you and is always thinking of the next step, not just for what we are doing that day.

Things were not looking in our favor but Dr. Perloe made us a guarantee that we would walk out that facility with a baby. We got pregnant on our first round of IVF. We followed all of Dr. Perloe's directions even doing a frozen transfer when we wanted to do a fresh transfer...knew all our needs and addressed them accordingly. Dr. Perloe's knowledge in the area of infertility is an understatement, he's a GURU.
They [Shady Grove Fertility Atlanta] also offer financing which we did so it gives us 5 years to pay off...The only thing I did not like was being seated in one area of the clinic with other patient and at times you would her hear some of the medical issues with the patients. They would sit all the patients in a holding area and you would see other people with the same inflictions. If you are a very private person I don't think you would care for that.
How was your experience with Mark Perloe (retired) at Shady Grove Fertility Georgia?
When my husband and I entered Shady Grove we didn't know what to expect. My husband had done some research on the facility beforehand but we know what we were up against. I was battling PCOS and Uterine Fibroids and Dr. Perloe explained all of that to us. Things were not looking in our favor but Dr. Perloe made us a guarantee that we would walk out that facility with a baby. We got pregnant on our first round of IVF. We followed all of Dr. Perloe's directions even doing a frozen transfer when we wanted to do a fresh transfer. We started our IVF journey in June 2018 and by August 2018 we were pregnant. What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Mark Perloe (retired) at Shady Grove Fertility Georgia?
Dr. Perloe is very open to your ideas and what maybe your plans for IVF but he'll direct you in the right way to go. I recommend following his advice from beginning to end.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Mark Perloe (retired) at Shady Grove Fertility Georgia?
We felt like a human because Dr. Perloe know our exact needs every time we stepped foot in the facility. He never forgot our names and remembered every little detail about me.
Describe the protocols Mark Perloe (retired) used in your cycles at Shady Grove Fertility Georgia and their degree of success.
Dr. Perloe recommended that I lose some weight and change my diet before starting my IVF cycle. I used Gonal-f for my FSH, menopur and some other medications that Dr. Perloe will prescribe to you.I think we did 150 ML of gonal daily but we it may vary depending on what Dr. Perloe prescribes to you. We had to get some MRI's done because of my Uterine Fibroids. I had some pre-diagnostic testing done and a consultation to determine my infertility.
Describe your experience with your nurse at Shady Grove Fertility Georgia. (Assigned nurse: Yolanda)
Our nurse Yolanda was amazing. She was there for me every step of the way. She gave me hope even when I didn't think I had any. Her encouragement is what kept me going through with the process. She knew Dr. Perloe better than anyone there and gave me assurance that Dr. Perloe will give me a baby. She is very patient, understanding, and caring about what you're going through. Anytime we had questions and or needed some advice on things, she was always there for us. I thank nurse Yolanda so much for everything she did.
Describe your experience with Shady Grove Fertility Georgia.
The staff at the clinic was always helpful. From the front desk to the ladies that drew my blood, they were all so supportive. When we told them the good news about us being pregnant they were just as excited as we were. There was one lady at the front desk that was a little quirky but she was always a good laugh for me and my husband when we went. The only thing I did not like was being seated in one area of the clinic with other patient and at times you would her hear some of the medical issues with the patients. They would sit all the patients in a holding area and you would see other people with the same inflictions. If you are a very private person I don't think you would care for that.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Mark Perloe (retired) at Shady Grove Fertility Georgia.
They had a number of diffeent plans for us to choose from. We qualified for the plan that gave us 2-3 ivf cycles and unlimited transfers that cost us $18,500. We wish we would've went with the one cycle that was $12,500 but we didn't know we would get pregnant on the first round plus we shouldv'e tried another round of IUI. Medications cost us another $2,500 so our total bill came to $21,500. They also offer financing which we did so it gives us 5 years to pay off.
Describe Mark Perloe (retired)'s approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Shady Grove Fertility Georgia.
Dr. Perloe recommended eSET because e was afraid of me having multiples and wanted to be careful because of my fibroids. Though you transfer one embryo, there's still a chance that the one embryo could multiply.

Once they sent to get certain blood test but the clinic had sent back the wrong results so we had to redo the test.
Dr. Namnoum is kind and has good "bed side manner". She was not as thorough as she could have been in my PCOS diagnosis. She seems a little distant and I would prefer a doctor with more warmth. IVF seems to be the default treatment for most fertility clinics and GRS (Shady Grove) is no different. Maybe the truth is that the doctors don't really know how to fix PCOS.
At first my nurse [at Shady Grove Fertility Atlanta] was very cold. She acted irritated about the questions I had and tried to get off the phone with me quickly. It was difficult to get her on the phone.... Strengths: Nice waiting area and offices, receptionists are friendly. Weaknesses: Must pay for parking, there seems to be poor communication among the staff. I had to tell the lab technicians what tests were needed, the ultrasound technician what the plan was, etc.

What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Anne Brawner Namnoum at Shady Grove Fertility Georgia?
You have be be your own advocate and also educate yourself. Much of the responsibility is on the patient to be well read on their condition and treatment. It is very difficult to get ahold of the doctor. There is no patient portal or email. The office rarely picks up the phone and you must leave a voicemail. Be prepared for some bad games of phone tag.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Anne Brawner Namnoum at Shady Grove Fertility Georgia?
She didn't seem to care to know about my BBT or CM. Most importantly she didn't help me to treat PCOS. It felt like I was on a fast track to the IVF money making machine.
Describe the protocols Anne Brawner Namnoum used in your cycles at Shady Grove Fertility Georgia and their degree of success.
With my diagnosis of PCOS, she suggested taking Letrozole, a trigger shot, IUI, then progesterone suppositories. It did not result in pregnancy. I immediate started another IUI cycle until they found a polyp and we cancelled the IUI and just did a medicated cycle instead.

Billing was very confusing. I was told that a surgery to remove a polyp was one and amount and got a much bigger bill. IUI cost around $450 and the meds add another $350 to that.

Describe the specific things that went wrong at Shady Grove Fertility Georgia.
I needed to have more thorough labs done in order to know how to treat my PCOS. I have a bit of a unique situation.
Also, when attempting to start the IUI cycle, I left several voicemails requesting that my meds get called in to the pharmacy. It was cycle day 4 or 5 and no one had called me back and I was about to miss my window to start Letrozole and have baseline ultrasounds done.
She [Dr. Anne Brawner Namnoum] is really knowledgeable of clinical information but not as personal as other clinicians or nursing staff. I think it would have been a better experience if I was able to lose weight in her time frame. I also think she would have been more comfortable if there was an explanation for my infertility; because right now we do not have a diagnosed reason.
The nursing staff is the clinic's [Shady Grove Fertility Atlanta] best asset. They always showed compassion and were very knowledgeable. I always felt like I was in good hands.... I was on Letrozole and clomid to produce more eggs and improve my ovulation to increase fertilization. I also had 1 IUI because of the greater chances of conceiving with the procedure.

I continue to go to Dr. Namnoum because of her clinical knowledge and her supportive staff. I also think it is important to recognize that they often listen to the patient. I never wanted to do an IUI to conceive and Dr. Namnoum works hard to prevent us from having to utilize that option on a regular basis. She also encourages a second opinion at all times which I like. She is not a cocky know it all doctor. She literally will conduct research in your presence to determine the best course of action for you. I also like that I feel like I am included in my care and my voice really matters.
