Attention to Detail

Attention to detail is on a 1 - 10 scale, and is scored based on the rate, and severity, of errors committed by the clinic according to the patients.

For example, a severe error might be failing to inform a patient of critical information, while a small error might be failing to call a patient with results.

CDC Success Rates

This is the most recent data from the CDC. The CDC cautions that it should not be used to compare doctors and clinics. This data represents the outcomes of IVF cycles when using a person's own eggs.

For more information please see our FAQs.

Where you see a “?” on the chart, a clinic has done fewer than 20 cycles in this category and age range, so the CDC says showing percentages from this small data set would be misleading and unreliable.

Dr. Wright communicates with her patients in a way that allows them to understand every step of the treatment plan and process, including potential risks. She communicated to me in a clear, direct way, so only see her if you prefer that type of approach. Otherwise, if you are looking for a doctor with a cheerful and compassionate attitude, she may not be the doctor for you....I completed two IUIs with Dr. Wright. Both cycles she prescribed me the highest recommended dose of Letrozole, (7.5mg) because I hadn't responded to 5 previous cycles of Clomid and lower doses of Letrozole. Dr. Wright monitored me closely, often having me come in for bloodwork and ultrasounds every other day once I was close to ovulation.
Customer service at IVF New England is exceptional! Nurses are cheerful and supportive, ultrasound technicians walk you though every step of the ultrasound, results are released to you via phone call very shortly after bloodwork is completed, and overall, as a patient, I was treated very well!...Unfortunately, the nurse I was assigned, Sarah, was not a very good communicator and would often forget my individual case and made me feel more like a number. I wish I would have been assigned one of the other many amazing nurses on the staff.

What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Kristen Wright at IVF New England (closed)?
Know your preferred communication style because Dr. Wright is more a direct, cut-to-the-chase type of communicator and she doesn't sugar coat things.

Dr. Wright monitored me closely, often having me come in for bloodwork and ultrasounds every other day once I was close to ovulation. The first cycle, she instructed me to take Ovidrel as my trigger shot on CD15 and the IUI was performed on CD17; the second cycle she instructed me to use Ovidrel on CD 21 and the IUI was performed on CD23 since I am a slow responder. Both IUIs resulted in a negative pregnancy test.

Most of the nurses at IVF New England were amazing! They were compassionate, cheerful, supportive, and walked me through every step of my treatment plan so I left every appointment and/or phone call knowing exactly what to do. Unfortunately, the nurse I was assigned, Sarah, was not a very good communicator and would often forget my individual case and made me feel more like a number. I wish I would have been assigned one of the other many amazing nurses on the staff.
Describe your experience with IVF New England (closed).
IVF New England provides its patients exceptional customer service! They are well organized, every part of the staff is knowledgable and friendly, the staff respond quickly and are available to patients 24/7, and the facilities (I have been to several of the locations in both New Hampshire and Massachusetts) have state-of-the-art equipment and newly remodeled.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Kristen Wright at IVF New England (closed).
In Massachusetts, fertility coverage is mandated, so almost all of my treatment, including appointments and medication, were covered by insurance. We only had to pay for co-pays and a small portion for blood work.
What specific things went wrong at IVF New England (closed)?
  • Lost appointments
  • Failed to call with results
  • Provided conflicting information
Describe the specific things that went wrong at IVF New England (closed).
My specific nurse, Sarah, accidentally booked my blood work appointments at the wrong clinic two or three times, but I was still able to get in and get my blood work done.

She [Dr. Kerri Luzzo] is very friendly and personable. She was direct with expectations and explained everything thoroughly. She always answered questions clearly. I didn't meet with her as often as I would have liked. I would have preferred her doing the iuis.... She gave me the information and allowed me to make the decisions.... She gave me the option of a medicated or unmedicated frozen transfer. I opted for medicated and that cycle resulted in my child.
The office in providence [IVF NE] was small and personal. You get to know the staff.... The location and hours were convenient for me. They did not do the egg retrievals or fets there so I had to go to Lexington for those which is a long drive. Most of my iui were done at this office, however, I did some at the urology office because they were cheaper. I didn't like that I had to store the sperm at the urology office. It would have been more convenient to store it at the fertility clinic

We started with unmedicated iui. After two failed rounds we moved to medicated iui with clomid. I chose not to do monitored cycles since I was paying out of pocket. I do t recall the specifics of the fresh ivf cycle. I opted not to test the embryos. She gave me the option of a medicated or unmedicated frozen transfer. I opted for medicated and that cycle resulted in my child. She gave me the information and allowed me to make the decisions.

You were given a time but it was really first come first serve. You had to get there before they opened to get in and out quickly. Otherwise there would be a bit of a wait.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Kerri Luzzo at IVF New England (closed).
Iui was $450. The rest was covered by insurance. Copay for ivf meds were pricey, but that was insurance related costs.

He [Dr. Samuel Pang] is very professional, but, at first, this comes off as rather standoffish...we made a couple jokes during our first visit, but he did not crack a smile once. He's not warm and fuzzy, but he is very smart and knows what he's doing. He is very thorough, allowed us plenty of time to ask every question we had, and answered all of them. I got pregnant after 6 cycles of TI with Letrozole and Ovidrel...If you're looking for someone "warm," he is not for you. He is not uncaring or unkind, just very professional, efficient, and to-the-point.
She [nurse at IVF New England] was very organized and always called me right back if she had maybe missed something on our first call. She or a member of her team always called me back in a timely manner if I'd left a message with a question or concern...The doctors are very knowledgeable...but I think they are lacking a bit in the compassion department. The nurses were all very kind, but there were multiple times I got off the phone with them and cried. Infertility is a long, rough road and I felt like I had minimal support throughout the process and the clinic didn't do much to aid in that department. You truly need to be your own advocate in this process. Do your research, fight for what you want, understand your test results, and know to push back when you need to.
How was your experience with Samuel Pang (retired) at IVF New England (closed)?
I saw him only twice, once for the initial consultation and then again to decide on our treatment plan. Dr. Pang is very knowledgeable and is well-known in the field. He is very professional, but, at first, this comes off as rather standoffish. My husband and I tend to be pretty laid back and joke around; we made a couple jokes during our first visit, but he did not crack a smile once. He's not warm and fuzzy, but he is very smart and knows what he's doing. He is very thorough, allowed us plenty of time to ask every question we had, and answered all of them. Dr. Pang, the nurses, and all the staff were kind and professional, but I did feel like a number. I feel like, especially at the Lexington and Waltham sites, everything was very quick and they'd get you in and out so they could see the next person. I achieved my goal of getting pregnant so, honestly, I didn't care, but, if you're looking for a more personal experience, look somewhere else - this operation is not much more than a baby factory.
Describe the protocols Samuel Pang (retired) used in your cycles at IVF New England (closed) and their degree of success.
I have PCOS with anovulation so my main issue is being able to ovulate. My initial treatment plan was 3-6 cycles of timed intercourse with Letrozole. I responded on the first cycle to the lowest dosage. I found out on the first cycle that I also have low progesterone so progesterone support was added that cycle and each cycle after. At the beginning of my second cycle, they found a cyst on my ovary so I had to do a "rest" cycle before resuming treatment. On the third cycle, the Ovidrel trigger shot was added as I did not seem to have a strong enough surge. On my seventh cycle, I became pregnant, did continue progesterone until 12 weeks.
Describe your experience with your nurse at IVF New England (closed). (Assigned nurse: Lisa)
My primary nurse Lisa was amazing. She was very kind and compassionate. She was very organized and always called me right back if she had maybe missed something on our first call. She or a member of her team always called me back in a timely manner if I'd left a message with a question or concern. A couple times when Lisa was out and someone was covering her, I had to really make sure they got everything right and didn't miss anything. Overall, the nursing team was great. In my opinion, these are the people you form connections with throughout this process, not the doctors.

Describe the costs associated with your care under Samuel Pang (retired) at IVF New England (closed).
My insurance plan covered a large portion of my expenses, but I did have copays for lab work and medications, ultrasounds went to my deductible, and the trigger shots and progesterone supplements were only covered at a special rate that got pretty pricey after multiple cycles. Had I gone further and needed to do IUI or IVF, my plan would have covered 6 cycles without medication. Out of pocket, I paid probably about $5000.
What specific things went wrong at IVF New England (closed)?
  • Failed to order appropriate test
Describe the specific things that went wrong at IVF New England (closed).
There was one instance where my primary nurse was on vacation and I had to argue with the covering nurse to get my ultrasound scheduled for the correct date. In her defense, she was going by Boston IVF's standard protocols, but did not take the time to read my chart and realize mine was different. I informed her and she did schedule me correctly.
