This is the most recent data from the CDC. The CDC cautions that it should not be used to compare doctors and clinics. This data represents the outcomes of IVF cycles when using a person's own eggs.
For more information please see our FAQs.
Where you see a “?” on the chart, a clinic has done fewer than 20 cycles in this category and age range, so the CDC says showing percentages from this small data set would be misleading and unreliable.
Dr.Hunter made the effort worth it as his primary involvement in treatment is more than we had hope for. He is constantly available to us and has made many after hours phone calls and email to help answer questions...is the example that should be used for all doctors. Knowledge, outgoing, great personality and great patient experience. The care we received was second to none. We will be seeing him and his team again when we look to have another child
Our nurse Carol [at Kentucky Fertility Institute] is like that family friend that you refer to as you aunt, she is very helpful and charismatic professional. She has also been very available and very much appreciate her caring...Angie and Sasha have me the appointments and financial aspect less stressful. They aways meet us with a smile and an eager to answer questions. Regardless of our outcome we would have no issues recommending Kentucky Fertility Institute to anyone and hopefully we can be added to their success rate.

Dr. Hunter is very to the point, describes everything thoroughly, and makes sure I don’t have any questions. Dr. Hunter is not very personable, but he does a great job as a Doctor...very knowledgeable and ready to change course if something does not seem to be working. Sometimes Doctors wait and wait to see if something may change but Dr. Hunter is very proactive, which I love! I do sometimes wish he was more personable.
All the staff here at KFI is very friendly and always willing to make me feel comfortable as much as possible...Strengths- I believe they truly are doing the best course of action at all times, I have full trust with Dr Hunter + staff. Friendliness and their knowledge. Weaknesses- Dr could be more personable. He is friendly, but could have more bed side manner in my opinion...Dr. Hunter is very knowledgeable and ready to change course if something does not seem to be working. Describe the costs associated with your care under Robert Hunter II at Kentucky Fertility Institute.
Not cheap by any means, but reasonable considering.
We loved her [Dr. Tiffany Justice] she was blunt but also caring. She answered all our questions. Told us the good and bad even if it’s something we didn’t know or think about she covered it. If I had a worry or question at all I can easily get a hold of her... Right now we’re obciously still in the early stages. She switched me to a low form of a birth control pill because I was on the shot. Our plan next would be to do shots and medicine to do egg retrieval.
The clinic [Kentucky Fertility Institute] is a very nice environment and staff. Makes you feel very welcome. You actually feel like a person and not a number. And everyone in there knows what your going through. My only thing is the money. It’s super high and the credit card or plan they offer has a ridiculously high interest rate.... The nursing staff here is great. They are very sweet and helpful. Always ready to answer all your questions in a timely manner.

Dr. Hunter was just what my wife and I needed. We were unsure of our options and what was even possible. He had multiple meetings with us before we even became patients. He’s very detailed and has a calming presence to him...We started with the most simple and cheapest option and ultimately ended up doing ivf. Ivf ended to being what worked...
There was a big snow/ice storm one night before our 8am visit. The [Kentucky Fertility] staff reached out to let us know they’d be there and how important it was to them to be there for us...Costs were broken down by event. IUI had a single price. IVF price was determined by different factors...What I would want a new patient to know is to write down all your questions. Ask everything on your list. It’s a big decision and can be a lot of money

From our consult to our final appointment, [Dr. Hunter] was an impeccable communicator whether it be by email or phone. How was your experience with Robert Hunter II at Kentucky Fertility Institute?
My husband and I made the decision to go with Dr. Hunter immediately after our first consult. His approach was scientific, thorough, but hopeful. I’m not usually one who likes to hear the science behind everything, but when he spoke about our situation and potential treatment, we both felt like “this guy knows what he is doing!” I still remember my husband and I looking at each other during our first visit and thinking “he’s the one.” From our consult to our final appointment, he was an impeccable communicator whether it be by email or phone. As should be expected with IVF and this journey in general, there were a couple of hiccups along the way that meant we needed to adjust our treatment. Dr. Hunter took those changes in stride and made the decision that would mean the best outcome for us. We have appreciated his transparency, skill and ability, and humor from the beginning!

Dr. Hunter began every appointment by asking how I was doing and what questions I had. From the moment my husband and I met with him, we knew he would be the one to do our treatment. His communication with us was impeccable, whether by phone or email. He replies to emails within the hour if he can, but always within the day, and has even called to reply to an email.
Describe your experience with your nurse at Kentucky Fertility Institute. (Assigned nurse: Carol)
Carol and Candy were the nurses we dealt with at KFI. We started our treatment in the middle of COVID, so unfortunately there were some restrictions. The clinic had been doing their medication teaching primarily by video, but after I emailed Carol and asked if that was the only teaching, and I’m guessing she sensed my unease, she quickly adjusted her schedule to allow me to come in for some in person medication teaching. I was greeted by her at my scheduled time and taken back to go over meds. She was gentle and kind and made me feel as though I could do this. Something that once seemed so terrifying now was possible because this caring nurse had taught me how to do it and gave me the courage I needed to try it myself. This was my first meeting and memory of Carol. From the injections to the embryo transfer, she was always available by email or phone if I needed anything or had a question. But my next big memory of her was on retrieval day when I was nervous about the anesthesia and she held my hand. I can remember falling asleep with my hand in hers, and waking up to her telling me that my husband was on his way up. Her gentle but assertive nature made me feel so well taken care of!
Candy was the nurse we saw at many of our appointments. She always greeted me with a smile and showed general care and concern. She also kept me updated while we were waiting on our transfer results and did so with the same care and concern.

Dr. Hunter recommended we transfer 1 embryo...When I had surgery (outside of IVF treatment) Dr. Hunter was incredibly kind and patient. He met with my family afterwards to share results. During IVF treatment he always made sure I was armed with all of the information I needed...He was incredibly easy to talk to. He asked a lot of questions about us to get to know us better and had clearly reviewed all of my medical records (which were incredibly lengthy) and had follow up questions and comments about my previous fertility treatment. We left feeling like we had

She was compassionate and kind...KFI is clean, modern, and organized. The staff are kind, easy to get in touch with, always able to answer questions, and enjoyable to work with. The clinic location is easily accessible off of the highway. How was your experience with Robert Hunter II at Kentucky Fertility Institute?
My husband and I first met with Dr. Hunter for a consult after two failed rounds of IVF and a failed FET with a previous doctor. He was incredibly easy to talk to. He asked a lot of questions about us to get to know us better and had clearly reviewed all of my medical records (which were incredibly lengthy) and had follow up questions and comments about my previous fertility treatment. We left feeling like we had a plan and a doctor who was confident in his ability to help us reach out goals. I left that first appointment with renewed hope.
During treatment Dr. Hunter was always calm and patient. He always answered questions, made sure I was fully aware of next steps, and always took time to make sure I was comfortable. I prefer providers who give me information straight and that's exactly what Dr. Hunter did throughout my care.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Robert Hunter II at Kentucky Fertility Institute?
Go to every appointment prepared. Dr. Hunter is incredibly smart. Get the most out of every appointment with him by being prepared prior to your appointment with any questions or concerns. Although he will always answer emails, etc. I found speaking to him in person was best for me so follow-up questions were easily answered.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Robert Hunter II at Kentucky Fertility Institute?
Dr. Hunter and his team were incredibly enjoyable to work with. At our first consultation he was curious about our lives - our interests, jobs, etc. During each appointment he always asked what was new and tried to make very clinical appointments more personal. He and his team always treated me with respect and care, answered every question I had without judgement, and responded to my questions and concerns outside of office visits incredibly quickly. When I had surgery (outside of IVF treatment) Dr. Hunter was incredibly kind and patient. He met with my family afterwards to share results. During IVF treatment he always made sure I was armed with all of the information I needed.

Gonal F (150) - Day 9
Menopur (75) - Days 1-9
Cetrotide - Days 5-8
Lupron - Trigger
In my first and second retrievals with a different doctor I hyper-stimulated using Ovidrel and Pregnyl triggers and had difficulty recovering. Dr. Hunter used Lupron and I felt great after the retrieval and was able to return to work the next day.

Describe the costs associated with your care under Robert Hunter II at Kentucky Fertility Institute.
My insurance covered a large majority of my care after I had met my deductible from other medical care outside of fertility treatment. We paid just shy of $6000 for my IVF treatment. Insurance covered the cost of my medication.
Describe Robert Hunter II's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Kentucky Fertility Institute.
Dr. Hunter recommended we transfer 1 embryo. I never questioned his recommendation.
Dr Hunter is the master of his craft, well versed in fertility and there's good reason why he's sought out in the state of KY. He's not there to be best friends, but if you're there long enough he may just become one :) He is there to ensure that your medical needs are addressed and the outcome you desire is met... If he sits in silence for a second it's because he's processing it all and he will be straight forward in telling you he's not sure if he doesn't know. That is something I admire in a physician.
[Kentucky Fertility Institute] Strengths- Love that I got to see Dr Hunter every time I went in, consistency, privacy, quick responses via email/phone call, explanation of knowledge, team overall- everyone works together, has good energy and collaborates to make your dream come true. Weaknesses- I haven't had a negative experience in almost 3 years of being seen there...I cannot say enough things about everyone there at KFI.

It's hard when you're hormonal, scared and unsure to trust anyone with your future, but I would trust Dr Hunter 100/100 with mine.
He's the cream of the crop when it comes to expertise in conception.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Robert Hunter II at Kentucky Fertility Institute?
He's not Patch Adams, but he is a Fertility Genius.
It's not that he lacks compassion but he's not there to make friends. Honestly I'm not sure he has time for friends with how much time he spends in that clinic!
Don't be intimidated by the lingo, the procedures, or the science of it all. If you're unsure about something ask him. If he sits in silence for a second it's because he's processing it all and he will be straight forward in telling you he's not sure if he doesn't know.
That is something I admire in a physician.

Describe your experience with your nurse at Kentucky Fertility Institute. (Assigned nurse: Carol Powers)
I cannot say enough things about everyone there at KFI.
Carol- love her to pieces. She is so warm, kind and compassionate.
Kathy- one of a kind. She has got to be the most empathetic phlebotomist you'll ever encounter
Paige-she loves her role in embryology and it shows. A smart cookie who truly lives and breathes her job.

Candy- your personal cheerleader during all of your appointments

Weaknesses- I haven't had a negative experience in almost 3 years of being seen there.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Robert Hunter II at Kentucky Fertility Institute.
We graciously received a military discount which was so appreciated!
Describe Robert Hunter II's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Kentucky Fertility Institute.
His logic was your outcome was the same in that you put in one embryo you get one baby, (unless it splits), you put in two embryos you get two babies.
More embryos didn't yield a higher chance of them "sticking"
He [Dr. Hunter] is easy to get in touch with regarding prescription refills, next steps etc. you don’t have to go into the office everytime you want to talk to him about small things like side effects, etc....He is easy to talk to and always available through email if you have any questions or concerns. He basically has told me that the ball is in my court and we can move on to the next step to be more aggressive whenever I want to.
[Kentucky Fertility Institute is] Very clean and organized. One of the most popular clinics in town, so trying to get an initial appointment is hard. I made one in July and got an appt for October, so don’t plan on getting in right away. Once you have your initial appt, everything happens quickly.... My initial appt after insurance was about $100. My initial blood work up, which included 16 vials was only about $230 after insurance. Couldn’t tell you about the pricing on the other procedures yet.

My husband and I have been trying for over a year now. We have lost two, about 10 months in between. We had a workup done on both and nothing is wrong of course. I was told I’m just an unlucky healthy 28 year old. We are still having trouble getting pregnant again. We had an shg done and everything looked fine. I was put on progesterone and baby aspirin for a few months and now we are trying Femara, this month is our second on Femara. Our next step will be injections and tracking ovulation through ultrasound. Will probably do that within the next few months if we don’t get BFP.

We loved our time with Dr. Hunter! He was incredibly knowledgeable and approached our situation with patience and care...administered a few tests on me to make sure that my body was able to sustain a pregnancy. We then did a trigger shot (Ovidrel) to help with ovulation. We were so pleased that this worked and we now have a healthy and happy baby boy to celebrate!
KFI is a fantastic place and I highly recommend it to anyone who is struggling with fertility...The cost of everything was much more reasonable that I had first expected. I was overwhelmed at what I thought we would pay but it wasn't outrageous...The nursing staff was so supportive! They were so excited for my husband and I and showed lots of love and support after finding out we were pregnant

Dr. Hunter and his staff were wonderful! I felt welcome the first moment I stepped in the door and each time we returned for follow up appointments. We struggled to maintain a pregnancy for years and Dr. Hunter made our dreams come true. We welcomed our son into the world a few months ago and we can't thank Dr. Hunter enough for his expertise! Kentucky is very lucky to have KFI and doctors like Dr. Hunter!

The cost of everything was much more reasonable that I had first expected. I was overwhelmed at what I thought we would pay but it wasn't outrageous!
Dr. Hunter was very straightforward and gave us plenty of time for questions. He laid out the various options and explained his recommendations. I felt we were given the proper information and then it was our decision to decide the best course of action. We waited approximately 10 weeks for the initial consultation....We did a medicated IUI cycle with clomid, a trigger shot and progesterone suppositories....There was no follow up after my IUI.
Pricing information is vague and even receipts don't detail what the charges are for. Wait times [Kentucky Fertility Institute] before appointments can be long. Overall the staff is very friendly and appointments go quickly once you have been called back. I often had a hard time getting a hold of someone on the phone. No one from the office ever called to follow up after my IUI.... I saw one nurse at every appointment, and she was the best.

The nursing staff was very friendly. I saw one nurse at every appointment, and she was the best. I saw a different nurse or NP for my scans. I remember leaving the scan right before my trigger and IUI feeling overwhelmed as I was asked if I was OK with multiples (which had never been brought up before) and given advice on the best prenatal vitamins, but had been told by the doctor our odds of conceiving with IUI were less than 10%.

What specific things went wrong at Kentucky Fertility Institute?
He [Dr. Robert Hunter] went above and beyond as a doctor and we trust him wholeheartedly. We would highly recommend him to anyone seeking fertility treatments... He is extremely knowledgeable, open-minded and is one of those rare doctors that takes time with each patient. I always felt reassured when I left the office because he took the time to answer my questions thoroughly...We were successful on our very first IVF cycle... treated me like a human, not just a patient.
We loved the staff at KFI and will always remember how much they helped us... they go above and beyond! They always answered our questions, calmed our nerves and even knew us by name when we walked in the door. When we had a complication early in our pregnancy, Carol came in early on a Sunday morning with the on-call doctor to do an ultrasound and reassure us that they baby was fine...Some of our appointments were more nerve wracking than others and they were quick to offer comforting words, hugs and hands to hold when I needed them. They were prompt in responding to questions via phone/email and very thorough with explanations of treatment plans, directions for medications, etc.
How was your experience with Robert Hunter II at Kentucky Fertility Institute?
Dr Hunter treated me like a human, not just a patient. He was understanding of our concerns and addressed all of them with patience and honesty. When I had a small reaction to the anesthesia (not the clinic’s nor Dr Hunter’s fault at all) he saw me right away and even called me at home that night to check on me. He went above and beyond as a doctor and we trust him wholeheartedly. We would highly recommend him to anyone seeking fertility treatments.

Describe the protocols Robert Hunter II used in your cycles at Kentucky Fertility Institute and their degree of success.
I was diagnosed with endometriosis and PCOS, but neither were so severe that they should have prevented a natural pregnancy so we were put in the “unexplained” category. Previous doctors put us through unsuccessful and possibly unnecessary treatments. Dr Hunter was honest from the very beginning and explained that IVF would be our best option, being one of the most direct approaches when battling unexplained infertility. We were successful on our very first IVF cycle.

My protocol never really changed even though I was seeing horrible results. ... I like him [Dr. Hunter] as a person and I feel he is knowledgeable but he was not the right fit for me. ... It was like I was given a cookie cutter approach that is used for everyone and there was a lot of reluctance to do something different for me. ... I think he had the best intentions for me but he was very reluctant to try anything different and when I suggested various things that I thought could possibly help me he would always say research shows that wont help, I dont think it would benefit you and so on.
The billing department [KFI] is a nightmare. HORRIBLE. I have been overbilled numerous times. The communication from billing is a joke. I was grossly underquoted a number of times then told I had to pay like 3k more than my quote before theyd allow me to continue with treatment. ... The nurse staff is fantastic though and they are so compassionate. I absolutely loved them and miss them. ...

Dr Hunter is very respectful. He is a bit dry at times and doesnt show compassion like some of the other doctors I have seen. He is more clinical but he is very kind.
Describe the protocols Robert Hunter II used in your cycles at Kentucky Fertility Institute and their degree of success.
All three of my cycle protocols were EXACTLY the same pretty much. 150iu gonal, 150iu menopur every single cycle. The last cycle we did add HGH and ICSI and it actually was my worst cycle of all. I asked for a lower dose as I am a high responder which was met with some unwillingness to try that kind of protocol. I have retrieved about 75 eggs in my 3 cycles and have basically nothing to show for it. I was told that my eggs are of poor quality and I was given an option to try an egg donor next. I have since moved on to another RE who has told me I was overstimulated every cycle which could have made my egg quality greatly suffer and he wants my medicine cut in half. He said less eggs and higher quality is what we want. He basically disagreed with everything that Dr Hunter did for me which was very upsetting but I feel I am in the right place now.
Describe your experience with your nurse at Kentucky Fertility Institute. (Assigned nurse: Carol)
The nursing staff at KFI are wonderful though. Candy and Carol are godsends. I absolutely loved them and I miss them. I have moved on to another clinic now since KFI couldnt help me but I wish I couldve taken the nurses with me.

I was grossly underquoted a number of times then told I had to pay like 3k more than my quote before theyd allow me to continue with treatment. I have had to pull ledgers and go through it with a fine tooth comb numerous times. The nurse staff is fantastic though and they are so compassionate. I absolutely loved them and miss them. There are a good number of patients who see success at KFI but I was not one of them. My protocol never really changed even though I was seeing horrible results. I have since left for another RE.

This clinic is not cheap. 4500 for FET, like 13-14k for retrieval cycle not including your meds. I have since moved on to IRH where IVF cycle with fresh transfer is 8200
Describe Robert Hunter II's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Kentucky Fertility Institute.
I transferred one embryo with both of my FETs but after one failed FET I was given the option to transfer 2 on my second FET. I still chose to transfer one because I had a limited number of embryos.

Describe the specific things that went wrong at Kentucky Fertility Institute.
I did not receive my fertilization report or my day 5 call on my last ivf cycle there. I waited all day for the calls and was in fear and crying thinking that all had arrested or something. I had to email the doctor late that evening to try to get an update because I was freaking out. The billing department is horrifying and there was a lot of errors and lack of communication on that end. There was unwillingness to make changes in my protocol and now that I am with a new RE I have found my protocols were not ideal at all for me. I feel like I was set up to fail with the protocol there.

At our consultation and after going over our history, Dr Justice felt our main issue was timing. We started off with letrozole and timed intercourse for three cycles and that did not work. We then moved on to two cycles of letrozole, follitism and iui which also failed.

Describe the specific things that went wrong at Kentucky Fertility Institute.
For my first iui cycle, the nurse practitioner switched my meds to a different pharmacy. She said she would send them in and then the pharmacy would call me to set up payment, etc. I waited until the next day then called the clinic, only for another nurse to direct me to the pharmacy I had used for the last cycle. I then had to inform her that the NP had switched the pharmacy. When I called the pharmacy they had no record of my name and had never received info from my NP. I needed the medicine in a couple days so I barely got it in time due to the clinics error.
Another instance I was given an appointment time by the front desk, only to show up and be told that I was late for my appointment. Turns out the NP had scheduled it for a different time than I was told.
Dr. Hunter is very knowledgeable and very accessible to reach for questions. He understood that I was also educated in medicine and talked to me at my level. I wanted to be conservative with treatment starting out and he was on board with the pace that I wanted to pursue treatment.... He was very accessible by phone or email to answer any questions. He asked about my work each visit, so I knew he remembered who I was. We also traveled very far and they always took that into consideration when making appointments.
The clinic [Kentucky Fertility Institute] is beautiful and newly completed. Dr Hunter and Justice have an excellent staff of nurses, financial coordinators, lab techs, etc. Angie is great about remembering you for every visit. Each room is private and clean, and not stuffy or scary.... Carol is amazing. She is so organized and as an organized person who likes every detail laid out, it was done. My medication/injection calendars were tweaked monthly, weekly, daily, and she was always on top of letting me know what I needed to be doing and coordinating my schedule on my upcoming visits.

Describe the costs associated with your care under Robert Hunter II at Kentucky Fertility Institute.
Routine labs and exams were billed to my insurance, and I paid my copays. The cost for the IVF cycle was not billed to insurance, because I did not have those benefits, and it was a package deal around 14K. The medications necessary were filled by a pharmacy in a Texas, around 7k.
Describe Robert Hunter II's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Kentucky Fertility Institute.
He did not have a strong preference of number of embryos we transferred. My husband and I knew possibility of multiples and discussed the pros and cons of transferring one or two, which two is all we had. We collected 25 eggs, 10 embryos, only 2 at day 5 blastocyst stage. FET, with one in and one frozen.
After 5 rounds of that without success, we met with Dr. Hunter. He told me that was a "baby dose" and that we needed to make some significant changes. I did 3 rounds of 7.5 mg letrozole daily with ovidrel, 200 mg of progesterone, and various amounts of estrogen. After my first ultrasound, it was evident that my uterine lining was not thick enough, so the next month he started me on an estrogen regimen. After that was unsuccessful, he increased the estrogen to a pill and patch. After 3 months without a pregnancy and having a thin uterine lining despite 2 forms of estrogen, we discussed a hysteroscopy.
The clinic [Kentucky Fertility Institute] is very updated, clean, and all-inclusive. They are able to do all of the appointments, consultations, ultrasounds, and procedures in the office. The staff knows each patient by name when they walk in the front door. The only problem I have faced is regarding the financial department getting me a quote for IVF. However, once I bought it to the attention of the iVF nurse coordinator, I got a call from the financial office within 2 days
How was your experience with Robert Hunter II at Kentucky Fertility Institute?
Dr. Hunter is very knowledgeable in this field. He truly cares about his patients and wants success for each one of us. He takes time after each ultrasound or procedure to review results, come up with a plan, fill prescriptions, and then writes everything down for his patients. He is very organized, honest, optimistic yet realistic, and thorough.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Robert Hunter II at Kentucky Fertility Institute?
He is direct. He is not going to fluff up the facts in efforts to minimize the situation. I appreciate that about him. This is a stressful time in many people's lives and he doesn't mess around with that.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Robert Hunter II at Kentucky Fertility Institute?
Dr. Hunter has been very compassionate and understanding throughout this process. He has answered all of our questions, no matter how big or small. He fully explains treatment options and recommendations that are realistic and individualized for our situation.
Describe the protocols Robert Hunter II used in your cycles at Kentucky Fertility Institute and their degree of success.
When my husband and I started trying to get pregnant, my OB/GYN started me on 2.5 mg letrozole daily. After that was unsuccessful, he increased the estrogen to a pill and patch. After 3 months without a pregnancy and having a thin uterine lining despite 2 forms of estrogen, we discussed a hysteroscopy. I had that procedure done in May and recovered in June. During the month of July, we tried clomid. I did not respond as well to this medication, so for the next cycle, I went back to letrozole, estrogen, ovidrel, progesterone. When that was unsuccessful, we did our final round of letrozole, estrogen, gonal-f injections, ovidrel, and progesterone. At this point, after much discussion with Dr. Hunter, we decided that IVF was the next step. I am currently on birth control pills in preparation for IVF.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at Kentucky Fertility Institute.
The nurses are always present during ultrasounds and procedures to assist in any way that they can. They are very friendly and supportive. During my hysteroscopy, the nurse stayed by my head the entire time, explaining what was happening and what I could expect. That meant a lot to me and made me feel more comfortable, since I was awake during the procedure.

Describe the costs associated with your care under Robert Hunter II at Kentucky Fertility Institute.
Each ultrasound is $170 (I've had 7). Regarding lab work, the cost is around $200 for my husband and me. My insurance does not cover fertility treatments. I do not have a final bill for the hysteroscopy. However, my medications are somewhat covered by prescription insurance, so that has helped some with the cost of those which totals around $400.
Describe Robert Hunter II's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Kentucky Fertility Institute.
When we met with Dr. Hunter to discuss our IVF journey, he gave us a lot of information and statistics based on age ranges and medical conditions. For my age group, he recommends transferring one embryo but will transfer up to 2 embryos if the patient requests.
Dr. Justice took time to get to know us personally. We felt more like friends than patients. She has so much compassion and shares both pain and joy with us.... Emotions run high, and she is very aware of and sensitive to that. She is honest and transparent all the while maintaining a positive attitude that is nothing short of contagious.... We tried 7 IUIs with Letrozole and trigger shot. 6 were monitored after we discovered my ovulation predictor might have been off in round 1. Since we have male factor and are using a donor, we felt that we should try as many IUIs as possible before moving to IVF.
Billing is the only downfall of this clinic [Kentucky Fertility Institute]. They have had quite a bit of turnover recently, so hoping that gets resolved. But, dealing with billing has been the most painful part of the process. The office staff are so friendly and always make you feel welcome and at home.... Carol and Candy are amazing!!!!! They are so helpful and always available to answer questions. Carol sends out my schedules promptly and I'm never left waiting in the dark.

We tried 7 IUIs with Letrozole and trigger shot. 6 were monitored after we discovered my ovulation predictor might have been off in round 1. Since we have male factor and are using a donor, we felt that we should try as many IUIs as possible before moving to IVF. Once we hit the IVF stage, we discovered early on that the Lupron was not effective. So, we cancelled that cycle and started again using Cetrotide. This resulted in 7 eggs retrieved and 2 surviving embryos. One day 5 blast was transferred fresh. That resulted in a chemical pregnancy in week 1-2. We will do our 2nd trasfer this month.
Describe your experience with your nurse at Kentucky Fertility Institute. (Assigned nurse: Carol)
Carol and Candy are amazing!!!!! They are so helpful and always available to answer questions. Carol sends out my schedules promptly and I'm never left waiting in the dark. At my retrieval, even at 5am, they both were so cheerful and kept my spirits high and nerves low.
Describe your experience with Kentucky Fertility Institute.
Billing is the only downfall of this clinic. They have had quite a bit of turnover recently, so hoping that gets resolved. But, dealing with billing has been the most painful part of the process. The office staff are so friendly and always make you feel welcome and at home.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Tiffany D. Justice at Kentucky Fertility Institute.
We had insurance coverage for all 7 iuis and the IVF through the 1st transfer, so costs were relatively low. The bulk of the costs were our medications and the donor sperm. But procedures seemed to be within the norm.
We were dealing with male factor infertility primarily. ... She [Dr. Justice] did not rush us to adjust treatment plans to IUI/IVF while his potential was being maximized, but was open to advancing treatments as we desired. ... Dr Justice spent above and beyond the required time to get to know me personally ... She reminded me multiple times that we were a team and my opinion was just as important in the treatment plan as hers. ... it was not uncommon for her to take extra time to evaluate my emotional state in addition to the objective hormonal/ultrasound findings.
The KFI clinic is brand new, very clean, with nice furnishings and decorations. It feels welcoming and peaceful...Costs were not astronomical. Dr Justice and the KFI staff, I feel, try to make fertility treatments as affordable as possible in the current environment. They are very transparent about costs and patient with payments.. Candy [nurse] was always the staff member triaging me or returning my phone calls and discussing net steps. She was always very supportive and compassionate. If I had a question she could not answer, she would get an answer from Dr Justice and respond promptly....
How was your experience with Tiffany D. Justice at Kentucky Fertility Institute?
Dr Justice is very warm, compassionate, receptive to questions, thorough with explanations (but not too much to overwhelm you). She is concerned with supporting her patients with both the emotional size of infertility and the medical side. She is very knowledgable about infertility and each specific treatment modality/medication. She is very patient with explanations of treatment plans, writing out instructions to assuage confusion. She works very hard to be an available resource for her patients.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Tiffany D. Justice at Kentucky Fertility Institute?
If you have any questions at all, ASK them! She is very open to questions, will respond honestly and kindly, and then you will leave without a doubt in your mind about the diagnosis/plan.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Tiffany D. Justice at Kentucky Fertility Institute?
On my first visit, Dr Justice spent above and beyond the required time to get to know me personally instead of just my chart. She reminded me multiple times that we were a team and my opinion was just as important in the treatment plan as hers. On subsequent visits, it was not uncommon for her to take extra time to evaluate my emotional state in addition to the objective hormonal/ultrasound findings. Additionally, both Dr Justice and her staff were always warm, receptive to questions, patient with explanations, comforting in event of negative outcomes, and overall supportive.
Describe the protocols Tiffany D. Justice used in your cycles at Kentucky Fertility Institute and their degree of success.
We were dealing with male factor infertility primarily. Having used Clomid for 3 cycles before seeing Dr Justice, we started doing timed intercourse with Letrozole for 2 cycles (increasing dose the second cycle), monitoring follicle counts via ultrasound mid cycle, triggering ovulation at designated time based upon follicle scan. When I didn't respond as predicted to the Letrozole, we then transitioned to Clomid for 3 cycles with otherwise similar protocol while my husband's sperm production was maximized. She did not rush us to adjust treatment plans to IUI/IVF while his potential was being maximized, but was open to advancing treatments as we desired.

From my first visit, Candy was always the staff member triaging me or returning my phone calls and discussing net steps. She was always very supportive and compassionate. If I had a question she could not answer, she would get an answer from Dr Justice and respond promptly. She even stayed late one day waiting for my return call to be sure the medications were sent to the right pharmacy for me to pick up the right day!
Describe your experience with Kentucky Fertility Institute.
The KFI clinic is brand new, very clean, with nice furnishings and decorations. It feels welcoming and peaceful. The offer complimentary drinks (water, coffee, tea) in the waiting room. It has a private location in the office building with an almost-private entrance (shares the front door with an dental office). The building is conveniently located across the street from a large local hospital/doctor's offices and near the expressway.

Describe Tiffany D. Justice's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Kentucky Fertility Institute.
Dr. Hunter was very specific to the unique needs of my fertility issues and took into account my personal preferences... He made sure I understood the background of the infertility that I had experienced and what to expect during the treatment course. I completed a full tube removal performed by Dr. Hunter due to bilateral hydrosalpinx. Dr. Hunter was always available if I ever had questions or concerns...First, I had a laparotomy to remove my fallopian tubes, which were filled with fluid and would cause normal fertilization or IVF to be unsuccessful. After tube removal, I completed a course of stimulation medications to prepare for egg retrieval. I used a combination of the following medications: Menopur, Gonal F, Leuprolide and Ovidrel, with higher doses for my egg stimulation as I had a low ovarian reserve.
Carol [nurse at Kentucky Fertility Institute-Louisville] started out sympathetic and took her time when I had questions during egg stimulation treatment. Carol did not seem to have a full understanding of the amount of medications I had for egg retrieval, which put me in a tough situation when I had to order additional medicine at the last minute during stimulation. She was also difficult to get ahold of toward the end of stimulation...I did not have much choice on the time my monitoring appointments were scheduled. Some were quick, and some took much longer. There did not seem to be an excessive amount of patients waiting at any given time I was in the clinic.

Describe your experience with Kentucky Fertility Institute.
The clinic is new and has a great set up. What they don't tell you is that while the doctor may be covered by your insurance, they use their own facility which may not (and in my case was not) covered under insurance. The payment process was not clear, and many "surprise" costs showed up once the egg retrieval was complete.

Describe the specific things that went wrong at Kentucky Fertility Institute.
After my first egg retrieval with Kentucky Fertility Institute, I went to another clinic for a second opinion, as well as a clinic who would have their facility in network for my insurance. The new physician has not received the records in a timely manner. It has been several weeks since my records were requested, and they still have not been received by the other clinic.
Dr. Justice took time to understand and listen to my concerns. She read over my medical history and records, explaining everything in a different light, making sure that I understood my condition. She discussed a solid treatment plan. ... Dr. Justice is knowledgeable and understands how my body adapts to medications. ... We did a mock cycle with estrogen and progesterone oil shots and crinone cream. ... They did an endometrium biopsy to know the exact time for implantation of my last donor egg.
The lab is a little rough with blood draws and I am not typically one to complain and I can tolerate some pain. Another weakness is their [KFI] ability and understanding regarding insurance. They gave me several different quotes my EOB showed up as paid for services. So I am a little taken back by their billing dept. and their understanding of insurance policy’s. ... I have been out $700 for the endometrial biopsy. $200 for ultrasounds and exams. $280 for medications. This was all for a mock cycle...Very nice clinic, clean with a relaxing environment.

She explained in detail my condition. She discussed what she felt would be the best outcome for me. We did a mock cycle with estrogen and progesterone oil shots and crinone cream. My usterus was thicker than it had been in the past. They did an endometrium biopsy to know the exact time for implantation of my last donor egg. She was able to clearly communicate the steps that must be taken, down to the hours and days, exactly. I am excited and know this is going to work!

I always felt like my care was a discussion and not an order. He [Dr. Hunter] truly listened to my opinion and answered every question. He gave me all my options and worked with me to make the best plan possible. ... Because of other health issues that I face, we chose to transfer one embryo. This was a big discussion between us and ultimately agreed this would be safer. ... Everyone in the office [KFI], including Dr Hunter knew my name. He knew exactly who I was and my specific circumstances. ...
To me, the only weakness was the benefits coordinator. She is extremely nice but slow to respond to inquiries. There were times when I had to follow up multiple times before getting any response. The rest of the team [KFI] is AMAZING. Angie, at the front desk, greets you by name when you walk in. Highly organized and friendly. The phlebotomist is sweet as sugar and was the only one who could get what she needed out of my tiny veins without killing me. ...

We did an antagonist protocol which resulted in 8 eggs, 2 of which made it to freeze. Both were graded highly. We had a plan to do genetic testing but because we only had 2 eggs we skipped it. The first transfer was a success in that I got pregnant. We saw a heartbeat at 7 weeks but didn’t at 8. A D&C at 9 weeks determined that the egg (my own) was genetically defective. The 2nd transfer did not result in pregnancy.

The monitoring appoints were done first thing (before regular visits) and most of the time I was in and out. IVF works on your body’s schedule so sometimes there were more people than others.
