This is the most recent data from the CDC. The CDC cautions that it should not be used to compare doctors and clinics. This data represents the outcomes of IVF cycles when using a person's own eggs.
For more information please see our FAQs.
Where you see a “?” on the chart, a clinic has done fewer than 20 cycles in this category and age range, so the CDC says showing percentages from this small data set would be misleading and unreliable.
The doctor [Dr. Aykut Bayrak] seemed knowledgeable at first. But it seems like his only option is to do IVF. I had PCOS and he said my only option was to do an IVF. When my first cycle didn't work, he told me I was too old. He was reluctant to do any other tests on me to see what the root cause was. During my second cycle, he mysteriously disappeared and didn't return for months. He had a substitue doctor hired who never looked at my charts and was always late to the appointments. The second cycle also failed. Everything was so unorganized and unprofessional.
The [LA IVF] staff in general are not very friendly. The overall atmosphere of the clinic is bad. They are slow to return your calls and emails. The only time they will call you on time is to collect money...The doctor was knowledgeable and seemed friendly at first. However, he is always out of office for vacations and medical reasons and will hire another doctor to cover for him. Unfortunately those doctors know nothing about your medical history and you will not be able to back out because you already paid. The nurses and front desk staff don't care about you at all. They are too busy gossiping and whispering rude things.

For my first cycle, he couldn't retrieve all my eggs due to the protocol. For my second cycle, he retrieved more eggs but said they were not good quality.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at LA IVF.
I had 3 different coordinating nurses because they kept on quitting. Seemed like they hated their jobs and didn't respond to my emails or calls on time. Also I don't think the nurses are certified. A front desk employee turned into my "nurse" one say after my previous nurse quit. She didn't even know how to draw blood. It was worst nightmare ever.

Describe the specific things that went wrong at LA IVF.
Like I said earlier, I had two failed IVF cycles at this clinic. The doctor and nurses were unsympathetic. They didn't even say sorry or give any other words of encouragement. The nurse literally had a smile on her face when she knew I tested negative for pregnancy. The doctor just kept pushing for another egg retrieval and said I was too old. The manager called the week after my third failed transfer and asking for money to do a 3rd egg retrieval when I haven't even agreed to do so. All they care about is taking your money. Also, the conditions of the clinic were unsanitary. One of the patients brought her dog in the clinic and they said nothing. This is unacceptable since they operate their own laboratory. The condition of the laboratory is crucial for the eggs and embryos. They also had their heater on full blast. It was the worst experience anyone can have at a fertility clinic. They don't care about their patients or success at all.
Dr. Bayrak is knowledgeable and clearly has a lot of experience in his field...My wife did an egg retrieval, we were worried about the final egg count but with the medication used we got 9 eggs, which became 4 solid embryos. I was the one who did the transfer, the first time the pregnancy ended, which was devastating. Dr. Bayrak saw me immediately and we did everything we could to try and keep the pregnancy, but in the end it wasn't viable. On our second transfer we upped some of the hormones and I am currently 11 weeks with no issues!
We never waited more than a few minutes in the waiting room [at LA IVF]. The entire staff of nurses is just so positive and helpful. The financial person was even such a delight. All around we never hit one speed bump or bad attitude...We LOVE Rebecca [nurse]. She went above and beyond for us. We always got a phone call for any result, good or bad. She was the one to call me on her day off when I was miscarrying, and was there for us as we continued our journey.
How was your experience with Aykut Bayrak at LA IVF?
Dr. Bayrak is knowledgeable and clearly has a lot of experience in his field. I never thought I needed to double check or do my own research, he's a master at what he does and we put our full trust in his capabilities. He's also a laid back and easy to talk to person.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Aykut Bayrak at LA IVF?
Trust his judgment, and the process. Going into this wild ride is going to have it's ups and downs, but allowing him to do his job will keep your own stress down.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Aykut Bayrak at LA IVF?
IVF is expensive. I don't think you should go into this without that assumption. I never felt like Dr. Bayrak or his staff was simply trying to tack on more costs to us. This is just part of the journey, and we were definitely treated like humans.

Describe Aykut Bayrak's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at LA IVF.
The concept of doing more than one embryo didn't really cross our minds, as it seemed to be the best approach to just do a single.
Dr. Bayrak is a friendly, pleasant doctor. He explained what he was seeing during my monitoring appointments and was generally available for our questions. I wouldn't say that I felt confident that he remembered me or my case, however...At that point, I had to remind them that one of the reasons that we were pursuing IVF was because of past medical/health issues, which were at least a partial explanation for our quality/quantity issue. I was just a bit concerned that they didn't even seem to be aware of that very important detail of our case .
[LA IVF clinic] Strengths include: The clinic is in a very nice high-rise medical building with a convenient parking garage, which they will provide validation for. The NP, Yelena (?) is incredibly kind...blood draws were quick and painless. Tips: I would recommend getting all cost information...introduced me to the anesthesiologist by an entirely incorrect name...still unnerves me to this day
How was your experience with Aykut Bayrak at LA IVF?
Dr. Bayrak is a friendly, pleasant doctor. He explained what he was seeing during my monitoring appointments and was generally available for our questions. I wouldn't say that I felt confident that he remembered me or my case, however. During our IVF cycle, he and the embryologist made comments about poor quality/quantity (and were quite perplexed by it). At that point, I had to remind them that one of the reasons that we were pursuing IVF was because of past medical/health issues, which were at least a partial explanation for our quality/quantity issue. I was just a bit concerned that they didn't even seem to be aware of that very important detail of our case .
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at LA IVF.
I worked with one IVF coordinator (I'm not entirely sure if she was a nurse) throughout my entire cycle and my comments are specific to my experience with her. Communication with her was very challenging from the beginning.
For starters, during one of my monitoring appointments, she drew blood (as is typical), but on that occasion, she sent the blood to an external lab for additional testing. I was not aware that this had happened until I received a call from that lab, requesting immediate payment. When I called and spoke to the Dr. to clarify what the testing was for, we realized that I had already had it done elsewhere and would not need to repeat it. When I communicated this to my coordinator, she insisted that I needed the testing. After much back and forth, she finally agreed to cancel the testing. It was frustrating and caused me several days of stress (while in cycle, no less), since the lab kept calling me and telling me that I had to pay them several thousand dollars.
Another issue was with scheduling my egg retrieval. After my last monitoring appointment, I was given specific trigger and retrieval timing instructions. I received a call the next day that my retrieval was being moved and that I would receive an updated calendar. I assumed that this change meant that I was arriving and triggering at different hours, but when I received my calendar, it was entirely different day for retrieval. I had to call my coordinator and she confirmed the mistake and that my retrieval hadn't actually changed. Had I not been thorough and questioned this change (even though I was told there would be some sort of change), I would've triggered too late and potentially ruined my cycle.
Additionally, after my retrieval, I was told that my coordinator would provide updates on Days 1, 3, 5/6. I received updates up until Day 5 and then did not hear anything for several days, despite repeated emails and phone calls. When I finally heard back, I wasn't given an explanation for the delay, which is incredibly stressful and confusing.
Lastly, I would call my coordinator with questions, leave voicemails, and even send follow-up emails, and oftentimes, did not hear back for upwards of a week and with no apology for the delay. This happened with one time-sensitive question, and I just ended up guessing on what to do (which is unsettling when you're spending so much money and have so much on the line).
Describe your experience with LA IVF.
Strengths include: The clinic is in a very nice high-rise medical building with a convenient parking garage, which they will provide validation for. The NP, Yelena (?) is incredibly kind and gentle with setting up your IV. The staff who answer the phones are generally friendly. The blood draws were quick and painless.
Tips: I would recommend getting all cost information, with very specific details in writing for everything. Before starting my cycle, I was informed by the office manager that it would be a certain price with ICSI, assisted hatching, 1 transfer, etc., included in the cost. Right before my stims started, I was then asked to pay an amount that was significantly higher than the original quote. I was certain it was a mistake, so I called the office and was informed that they had raised prices, but that it was actually more favorable for patients (which I didn't quite follow). I also received a lot of push back that I had ever even received the lower price estimate and that whoever gave it to me was not correct or that I had misremembered. After producing proof of the old quote, they honored the lower price, but I felt like very uncomfortable throughout the whole situation.
Another issue that I had - which still unnerves me to this day - is what happened on the day of my retrieval. I have been to several other clinics and have gone through several retrievals previously, so I'm used to some form of patient identification protocols - especially when dealing with something as precious as human life/tissues. When I arrived on the day of the retrieval, I was one of several other patients that day, and my name was only asked at the front desk. When I went in for the retrieval procedure itself, my coordinator who had worked with me throughout the whole journey, introduced me to the anesthesiologist by an entirely incorrect name (e.g., if my name were Sarah, she called me Susan). I was so nervous and stressed that I thought I'd heard her wrong, so I let it go. I wish I had corrected her, however, because beyond the front desk, at no point prior to or after the retrieval did anyone ask me what my name was or what my birthdate was. That had never happened to me before at another clinic - every other clinic had some process in place (e.g., ID bracelets, making you state your name to the Dr. and embryology team, having you read your name on the embryology petri dishes/vials, etc.). I later learned that my partner had a similar experience while providing his sample - his name was not on his semen sample cup, nor did anyone ask him his name. I'm not in the medical field, so I do not know if that's standard protocol, but it made me very uncomfortable as a patient.
Lastly, medical documents and receipts/proof of payment have been incredibly difficult to obtain. I've had many emails and phone calls go unanswered for several months, and still not have received the documents that I need.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Aykut Bayrak at LA IVF.
Roughly $20k per IVF cycle with PGS testing included. I did not have any insurance coverage.
I was given the option to see the doctor roughly every other visit. I felt that during treatment, questions were answered with appropriate attention. ... My one piece of advice for a prospective patient of Dr. Bayrak is to absolutely not freeze your eggs there [LA IVF], because of what happened to me and the lack of appropriate remedy or honesty.
When I returned to thaw and fertilize my eggs, first, the embryologist [LA IVF] did not have all of the supplies necessary to do the thaw. Next, I was informed that only 2 of 7 eggs survived the thaw and that of the two that fertilized, they failed to progress or develop. I was not communicated with directly and had to call and insist on complete information at the end of the incubation period.
How was your experience with Aykut Bayrak at LA IVF?
My caution with this office is my perception of the quality of egg freezing and thawing specifically. I froze 7 mature eggs with LA IVF and decided six months later that I wanted to produce embryos with donor sperm. When I returned to thaw and fertilize my eggs, first, the embryologist did not have all of the supplies necessary to do the thaw. Next, I was informed that only 2 of 7 eggs survived the thaw and that of the two that fertilized, they failed to progress or develop. I was not communicated with directly and had to call and insist on complete information at the end of the incubation period. When I made the assertion that perhaps there was a flaw in their freeze/thaw procedure given that this was an unusually high failure rate for thawing, I was told that I had poor egg quality (the first time this was ever said). I do not have poor egg quality. In subsequent rounds (one year later at age 41) with another doctor (who I much preferred), I produced day 5 and day 3 embryos with mature eggs with no problem and all of my eggs fertilized. Because of the results, I felt like LA IVF clinic was dishonest about their egg thawing experience. Further, when I asked for a refund or a replacement cycle, I was told that they would offer a "discount" if I chose to return to them, but was refused a refund or a complimentary replacement cycle. Atrocious treatment from my perspective and I would not counsel anyone that I cared about to go there for any cycle.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Aykut Bayrak at LA IVF?
My one piece of advice for a prospective patient of Dr. Bayrak is to absolutely not freeze your eggs there, because of what happened to me and the lack of appropriate remedy or honesty. I cannot speak to IVF or other procedures, as I did not return to this clinic after the failed thaw of my eggs and would never return for any procedure under any circumstances.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Aykut Bayrak at LA IVF?
The clinic was relatively small, like a doctor's office, and I was given the option to see the doctor roughly every other visit. I felt that during treatment, questions were answered with appropriate attention.
Describe the protocols Aykut Bayrak used in your cycles at LA IVF and their degree of success.
I was placed on a Follistim regimen (approx ~2200 total IU) of a daily shot plus Menopur after CD 7 or 8 (approx ~375 total IU). My trigger was HCG and Cetrotide was used at the very end prior to retreival.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at LA IVF.
The nursing staff were compassionate and good to work with.
Describe your experience with LA IVF.
I had a relatively seamless experience of stimulation for egg freezing and an uneventful retrieval. Where this clinic failed miserably was in thawing my eggs, retrieved just after my 40th birthday. These were the only eggs that I had frozen. Six months later, I returned with donor sperm to have the eggs thawed and fertilized. Subsequently, when all but 2 eggs disintegrated in the thaw procedure, they failed to communicate transparently and appropriately about the failure of the thaw procedure. They also failed to offer any type of fair remedy (i.e., a refund or at minimum a complimentary cycle). And refused my request for a refund or a complimentary replacement cycle to replace my banked eggs. They also refused to refund any portion of the money that I paid for the thaw/transfer cycle that resulted in no viable thawed eggs. Instead, they blamed their failure on my egg quality. Ironically, a year later, in a mini-IVF cycle, I produced 8 mature eggs of which, 7 fertilized. I have been subsequently told by another doctor that my egg quality is good.
Describe your experience with your monitoring appointments at LA IVF.
Montioring appointments were comfortable experiences. The nursing staff were very nice and the doctor would usually perform my ultrasound himself.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Aykut Bayrak at LA IVF.
I believe I paid between $8000 - $9000 for egg freezing and somewhere around $2000 for the failed thaw, fertilization, incubation and transfer cycle. No refund was provided for the failed cycle. And no financial accommodations were made to address the financial burden of the complete loss of my only banked eggs.

How was your experience with Aykut Bayrak at LA IVF?
It felt like he left many decisions to his medical assistants (not nurses). He does not care about the patients and sees us only as dollar signs. I did not feel like he thought about various ways to treat me, but only used the same protocol over and over even after we had bad results. We were locked in to three cycles with him which we pre-paid (and no refunds are permitted). We otherwise would have changed clinics after the first cycle.
His office gave us the run around in terms of scheduling procedures which resulted in delays over a month. The delays were due to his schedule because he is the only doctor for three clinics. He is stretched way too thin. He batches his patients so that your egg retrieval will take place when it works for his schedule and not necessarily when your body is ready.

The doctor will rarely see you and all information is conveyed through medical assistants. He does not employ actual nurses. The staff is disgruntled and the overall atmosphere is negative. There is a lot of staff turn over. Absolutely no personalized care, you will only receive cookie cutter treatment. we have since switched to a new RE and the difference is night and day.
Describe the protocols Aykut Bayrak used in your cycles at LA IVF and their degree of success.
Bad results for all three cycles. He did not appear to have a rational for the protocol he used other than it was convenient. We started with long lupron for my first cycle which resulted in zero embryos. He said he would switch protocols for my second cycle, but when I received my injection calendar it was exactly the same. All contact was through his medical assistants so when I spoke with her she told me she just copy and pasted my last protocol.
His only strategy appears to be making his patients' cycles fit his schedule. He is one doctor across three locations. He does all inseminations and retrievals over one weekend a month. It's impossible that all his patients would be ready on that one day.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at LA IVF.
There is no nursing staff. This clinic only employs medical assistants. They are over worked and disgruntled. They do not communicate well. For example, my first cycle resulted in zero embryos. The medical assistant called and told me we got nothing. That's it. It was devastating news made worse by the cold way it was communicated. A second example: we did two freeze all cycles which resulted in zero normal embryos. This meant we had nothing to transfer after three cycles. Again, the news was very coldly communicated by a medical assistant.
They are under-trained and over worked and clearly hate their job. I did not feel they were qualified for the work they were made to do.

My husband and I went through a Trans-Atlantic IVF journey with Dr. Bayrak...it was quite a challenging experience, and working with Dr. Bayrak made it as easy as it could get...was very detail oriented and meticulous about each step along the way. He carefully considered all options available, educated us and involved us in the decision making process, and guided us to success in as short a time as possible...He was easily reacheable and available both during cycles, as well as between cycles. Despite how challenging the IVF process is, it was delightful to work with him. I highly recommend anyone who is considering an assisted reproductive path (IUI, IVF, etc.) to work with Dr. Bayrak.
I worked with more than one nurse and care coordinator [at LA IVF] due to the number of cycles I did. They were all wonderful and Dr. Bayrak also closely followed the process...Easy access and parking, friendly atmosphere. I think the size is just right- not too big and not too small. I rarely had to wait for my appointment, Dr. Bayrak was always prompt. Despite having done a few rounds in other clinics, we did not have a clear picture in our heads of what was going on. Initially, he did lengthy phone and Skype consultations with us to explain how the process works, and make sure that we fully understand what we are going into. This put us at ease and I think tremendously helped with the whole process.
Dr. Bayrak was very detail oriented and meticulous about each step along the way. He carefully considered all options available, educated us and involved us in the decision making process, and guided us to success in as short a time as possible. He patiently (and repeatedly) answered all of our questions and never made us feel rushed or pressured into choosing a certain way. He was easily reacheable and available both during cycles, as well as between cycles. Despite how challenging the IVF process is, it was delightful to work with him. I highly recommend anyone who is considering an assisted reproductive path (IUI, IVF, etc.) to work with Dr. Bayrak.
Describe your experience with your nurse at LA IVF.
I worked with more than one nurse and care coordinator due to the number of cycles I did. They were all wonderful and Dr. Bayrak also closely followed the process.
Describe your experience with LA IVF.
Easy access and parking, friendly atmosphere. I think the size is just right- not too big and not too small. I rarely had to wait for my appointment, Dr. Bayrak was always prompt. I never felt like it was a factory in the clinic and felt that I received individualized care.
Describe Aykut Bayrak's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at LA IVF.
I have a bicornuate uterus. Therefore, Dr. Bayrak very strongly recommended that I have only one embryo transferred. He selected the best quality embryo and waited until my uterus was in perfect condition (in terms of the thickness of the intrauterine lining) to make the transfer.
He [Dr. Bayrak] would not offer education on the medications and treatment, but would answer questions thoroughly when asked. Despite our attempts to consider male factor, he dismissed it due to my age. We later learned with our second doctor that it is male factor. His bedside manner is somewhat sensitive and I believe he does care for his patients. He just always appears to be in a rush and seems to need either another doctor or to cut back his patient load...The doctor was almost always backing out the door like he was late for his next patient while my husband and I were trying to ask questions...
I don’t feel like anyone in this office [LA IVF] handled our case well. If we didn’t ask, we weren’t going to know. We were very new to this and didn’t know what to ask most of the time. Having now seen an excellent doctor and clinic and knowing now how things should have gone, I’m amazed I made it out safely. Just considering the egg retrieval alone (both times), no one called or followed up the next day to make sure I was ok. No one called the day before to make sure I knew what to expect. A lot of waiting and wondering is what we did. I feel like all we did was waste valuable time and money at this clinic.
How was your experience with Aykut Bayrak at LA IVF?
Dr. Bayrak uses a cookie cutter approach to his patients, or at least to me. He chose a protocol from the start and stuck with it without considering adjustments along the way to go with my body’s response. He was afraid of one egg being too big and not being viable, so abandoned several other opportunities for other eggs to catch up. I believe I had poor results because of his lack of finesse and hurried approach. He would not offer education on the medications and treatment, but would answer questions thoroughly when asked. Despite our attempts to consider male factor, he dismissed it due to my age. We later learned with our second doctor that it is male factor. His bedside manner is somewhat sensitive and I believe he does care for his patients. He just always appears to be in a rush and seems to need either another doctor or to cut back his patient load.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Aykut Bayrak at LA IVF?
Be your own advocate. If the doctor says one thing and the nurse says another, question it and make sure the nurse double checks with the doctor. I was given incorrect instructions more than once.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Aykut Bayrak at LA IVF?
I was given results, even devastating results, by email. Several times my appointments were changed at the last minute, even the same appointment multiple times, even though I was working full time and had to make arrangements with my job. The doctor was almost always backing out the door like he was late for his next patient while my husband and I were trying to ask questions.
Describe the protocols Aykut Bayrak used in your cycles at LA IVF and their degree of success.
I did two cycles of IVF. The first cycle he started me on lupron injections and birth control. The second only birth control. He told us this was to help the smaller follicles catch up to the bigger one. We then used Gonal-F and Menopur for a short period. Each cycle, only 2 eggs were retrieved although I had seven follicles with the first cycle. I learned with my second doctor that birth control and lupron are the wrong choices for someone with low AMH since it only suppresses the follicle production. The second doctor got 9 mature eggs. Ultrasound monitoring was very minimal and almost no blood tests during the cycles. He just picked a date for the retrieval and went with it.
Describe your experience with your nurse at LA IVF. (Assigned nurse: Amy Cervantes)
I can’t say enough to describe how terrible it was to work with Amy. She made an already difficult situation even more unbearable. I would get instructions from the doctor, then she would tell me something else. When I would ask for clarification, she would act annoyed, but eventually double check with the doctor and give me updated information. She was never available to speak when I called, but would email me back instead, sometimes while I was leaving a voicemail. All news was given via email. She would give devastating news over email. Absolutely terrible. She emailed me to tell me our embryo did not make it to day 5, said she was available if we had questions, then did not answer the phone five minutes later. I sent 2 emails after that and she never responded. I have not heard from her since that email. She would not send instructions when promised. She was always very short with us, sighed a lot, always seemed put out and annoyed, and overall very rude. It caused me so much anxiety knowing she was the only point person to contact. The day of my egg retrieval, I was in the operating room and she was prepping something while speaking to another person in Spanish (I don’t speak Spanish) and laughing while I was clearly anxious. She did not take time to tell me what was going on or what to expect. It was terrifying. Amy does not belong in healthcare, especially in such a sensitive environment.
Describe your experience with LA IVF.
They all seem annoyed with patients. No one is outwardly helpful or friendly. No one really smiles in this office. Follow-up is not done, except with several phone calls and reminders. The billing person, Linda, saw us once or twice in the beginning, then we never saw or heard from her again. She stopped answering emails and was never available to speak on the phone. Stacey was the most helpful person and the most compassionate. After our second failed cycle she seemed genuinely sorry and hugged me. I don’t know anyone else’s name. No one introduced themself.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Aykut Bayrak at LA IVF.
Dr Bayrak offers “packages”. You pay for everything up front. Even if you don’t make it that far, you’ve paid for it. You get a better “deal” if you pay for two or more cycles up front. It’s like he is planning to fail before he starts.
Describe Aykut Bayrak's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at LA IVF.
We had no embryos to transfer, but I believe Dr Bayrak only transfers a single embryo.

First he [Dr. Bayrak] recommended rechecking my fallopian tubes, which were blocked. Then he checked my egg reserves, which were low. I did the egg retrieval but quantity was low. He recommended that I do another round, but I declined. Next he noticed there were polyps on the uterine lining, so I had surgery to remove them. Finally we were ready for the transfer. It was a success...recommended a single frozen egg transfer
My second coordinator [at LA IVF] I never ended up meeting due to the two offices I was working with, LA and Pasadena, but she was very attentive to all my needs over the phone or email. I had a few issues with my medications arriving on time, but she put my worries at ease by contacting my insurance and assuring me that I would have what I needed regardless of the timing problems...My biggest issue has been billing, and honestly it's not too bad, but getting your questions answered with billing has been difficult. Recently a new woman was hired to assist with billing and that made it a lot better. I hate medical billing at any place and unfortunately this clinic is no different
How was your experience with Aykut Bayrak at LA IVF?
I went to Dr Bayrak with a determined expectation that he give me full explanations on the treatment and how high my chances really were, and he delivered. I had a lot of issues prior to going to him so I didn't want him to sugar coat my chances (he didn't), but at the same time he was warm and upbeat about the results. I was nervous most of the time during the whole process but he made me feel comfortable and assured we were doing everything possible for a positive outcome.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Aykut Bayrak at LA IVF?
Be receptive to the advice, but also ask a lot of questions. Dr Bayrak is thorough and will take the time to explain the process.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Aykut Bayrak at LA IVF?
Dr Bayrak was engaging and answered all of my questions. I felt like he heard my concerns and was able to address them head on, and helped me understand the whole picture. The staff was also very friendly.

Describe your experience with your nurse at LA IVF. (Assigned nurse: Hannah)
I've had two at Bayrak's office (one for each transfer) but the first one left after my first child was born - she was great. My second coordinator I never ended up meeting due to the two offices I was working with, LA and Pasadena, but she was very attentive to all my needs over the phone or email. I had a few issues with my medications arriving on time, but she put my worries at ease by contacting my insurance and assuring me that I would have what I needed regardless of the timing problems.
Describe your experience with LA IVF.
The strength is Dr Bayrak and his attentive method. There have been a few times where I reached out to him over email and he got back to me within a couple of hours. He's easy to reach and talk to about all things IVF.
My biggest issue has been billing, and honestly it's not too bad, but getting your questions answered with billing has been difficult. Recently a new woman was hired to assist with billing and that made it a lot better. I hate medical billing at any place and unfortunately this clinic is no different. My advice is to understand each bill and if you have any questions just keep asking.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Aykut Bayrak at LA IVF.
I had an initial deposit to pay since I had health insurance coverage, and if costs went over then they would bill additionally for those procedures.
Describe Aykut Bayrak's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at LA IVF.
Dr Bayrak recommended a single frozen egg transfer, which I agreed. I had been reading about the procedure and he reaffirmed during our consult.
The Dr. [Dr. Aykut Bayrak] Was generally kind and respectful and professional. I did not feel pressured or hounded by him and he answered questions by email regularly.... The first follicle exam he did was really quick, I did feel a bit rushed afterwards trying to wrap my head around what he was saying. I didn't understand how one bad ovary would lead to a 2% chance instead of a 50% chance but I was whisked out the door before I could get a better explanation. I tried to go back to ask him but he was already on a long conference call and the staff encouraged me to email him. I do still think he's a good dr, but he's so busy that I recommend you make sure you get all your questions answered before you leave!
I expected they [LA IVF] would call me with my test results (DHs semen analysis, my genetic blood work, etc) but I had to call them. That was frustrating to be honest. They kept wanting to meet with me to go over the results but every meeting is $350 out of pocket! No thanks, just tell me on the phone or email. They would if I asked but I had to ask.... One strength is that the clinic feels intimate and private. They cover up your name on the clipboard and are careful to close the reception window when making calls. I think they take patient confidentially seriously.
How was your experience with Aykut Bayrak at LA IVF?
The Dr seems very knowledgable - he has a wall of degrees and lots of positive reviews online, which is why I decided to check him out. He's been specializing in this case for 10+ years and he knows what to expect. Is services are expensive (no surprise there) but I suppose they're relatively reasonable. Write down a list of questions so you don't get nervous and forget them! He will answer them but sometimes you need to ask directly instead of wait for him to volunteer extra information.

I'm still in treatment and have only started the first stage. I'm done a lot of tests - HPG to check if my Fallopian tubes are open, blood work and genetic testing targeted for my race (Jewish), follicle exam for my egg release, AMH levels, and sperm analysis for my partner. Next we are going to try IUI and then if we can get the money we'll go for IVF - fingers crossed I might win this grant and make our dreams come true!
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at LA IVF.
They were mixed but generally helpful and professional. Some of the young ones were really nice and would hold my hand during tests or procedures. One older woman was rather the ruler of the roost and very no-nonsense (not a bad thing, just a different style.)

He mentioned there was no way he wanted to try for twins with me as it was too risky (I'm overweight.)

Because he is a single doctor and has multiple offices he puts patients on his schedule using BC pills. I wonder sometimes if this had any effect on the poor results of my egg retrieval’s but you never know.

Honestly my treatment with him was too long ago to remember the specifics but each retrieval my protocol was adjusted to try and get better results. Unfortunately I never responded to anything the way they expected.

Describe your experience with LA IVF.
The one thing that I feel somewhat sad about is the cost. LA IVF is very expensive. But most in the area are in the same price range from what I recall. The convenience of them having multiple offices in the LA metro area is a plus and a minus. It makes it more convenient for more people, but it also sometimes meant having to go very far out of the way to get to the location where the procedures happen.

$65000.00
Describe Aykut Bayrak's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at LA IVF.
Of the 8 eggs that I had from my retrieval’s. Only one was genetically normal. So when we went to actually conceive with another egg retrieval and IVF we got 2 more eggs that were untested fortunately all 3 fertilized and made it to day 3 and his recommended because the quality of 2 was poor and 1 was fair was to transfer. All. We were not successful. But did all we could with what we had.
Dr. Bayrak decided because I have PCOS he would prescribe me a "baby dose" of medication. This resulted in fewer eggs for retrieval, and most of those that were retrieved were not mature....After our cycle failed, he wanted to try again and do a cycle with half donor sperm and half my husband's sperm. He thought this would narrow down who had issues with quality (either my eggs or his sperm). He made IVF seem like a guessing game instead of a science. Our experience with him felt very impersonal. He talked in a lot of generalities and never seemed to see us as people or our case as unique. When asking questions, we received canned responses or answers, sometimes which were irrelevant to our case. He explained the process of IVF minimally.
The staff at Dr. Bayrak's office is cold and lacking empathy. They are continually seeking to expand their practice with three locations. It feels more like a business than a doctor's office. They reported all our information to us late or incorrectly. The waits at the office were longer than reasonable (frequently 45+ minutes after the appointment time before even being seen)...Sylvia reported our cycle incorrectly. At the end of our cycle, she said we had more embryos than we really did. Later, we were told she made a mistake. This was a difficult thing for us to reconcile.
How was your experience with Aykut Bayrak at LA IVF?
For starters, we received a lecture about the way babies are made with our initial consult, it seemed rather misplaced in a fertility clinic setting.
Dr. Bayrak was unable to diagnose the cause of our infertility, so he referred us to a specialist for a diagnosis.
Dr. Bayrak prescribed an insufficient dosage of medication to me, as someone with PCOS. He feared hyperstimulation, but overcompensated by making doses too small. This resulted in lots of immature eggs, which ultimately caused our cycle to fail.
Dr. Bayrak acted like we were a science experiment. After our cycle failed, he wanted to try again and do a cycle with half donor sperm and half my husband's sperm.
We had to research most of our questions on the internet, and did not feel he had adequate time to spend with us.

Weaknesses: staff is unempathetic, overworked, and too busy to handle patient flow. Clinic itself feels small and lacking in cleanliness.

We often had to remind the nursing staff to tell us of our dosages, results, and changed in protocol. They often forgot to follow up with us. We also had to remind them to send in prescriptions for us. Worst of all, they misreported our cycle results. It was devastating.
One thing I really appreciated was Dr Bayrak responding to emails when I had concerns or questions I forgot to ask in an appointment. His replies were punctual, easy to understand and specific. Not every communication was perfect and a few times I wanted to talk to him but had to speak to another on his staff (that did not understand my question well enough to be the right person to answer it).
From our initial consultation and throughout our treatment appointments, I felt Dr Bayrak and his staff [at LA IVF] were caring and supportive. The Pasadena office was small and felt friendly. I preferred it over the LA office (note: all retrievals are done at the LA office)...I had a really good experience with one of the nurses at the Pasadena office- she wasn't assigned to my case and wasn't always in during my treatments, but she made the experience much better as a consistent friendly face. Overall I think the good outweighed the bad, and with IF being such a difficult journey, we were glad to use LA IVF and have success with our FET.
How was your experience with Aykut Bayrak at LA IVF?
I felt Dr Bayrak was trustworthy and knowledgeable. I personally researched a lot before our consultation and I asked a lot of questions along the way. It was very important to me to understand why and what to expect for each treatment or upcoming appointment. I feel his is compassionate and cares about his job, but not overly so. I understand how others may feel like you're just a dollar sign, but I did feel like the care was sensitive and personal to make this difficult process less difficult.

I would suggest doing research on your diagnosis and treatment options a day be prepared to ask questions about why a particular protocol is suggested. Our first cycle was very unsuccessful and took us all by surprise. As upsetting as it was, the debriefing afterward with Dr Bayrak was direct, informational, and supportive. It gave me more confidence to see how his thinking took our first cycle in consideration to make our 2nd and 3rd protocols.

Unfortunately I don't recall the details well now.
We thought our initial issue was MFI with some other unknown factors. Our first cycle was GnRx-antagonist with ganarilx plus follistim and menapur. I created eggs but only one struggled to turn into a blast on day 6 (genetic testing showed it was missing several chromosomes).
The 2nd and 3rd cycles used a long Lupron agonist protocol with follistim and menapur again. I got 6 blasts on day 5 for the 2nd cycle, 2 blasts on the 3rd cycle. Total of 9 blasts we genetically tested- 3 came back genetically normal.

On our for cycle, we were supposed to get a day 3 update, but the day went without an update. I finally called my coordinator towards the end of the work day and then emailed Dr Bayrak directly. He ended up responding back with a clear email outlining what was going on (spoiler - it was going poorly). I think what happened was Dr Bayrak was supposed to call us since the report was so bad. Regardless, it was a low point in my experience with LA IVF and one I think they overcame with future communications.

Your RE should know your case and offer option plans. When things fail they should have backup plans. The doctor should spend more time doing scans and ensuring things are going well and if it isn’t adjust course of meds right away.

Describe John Kuo's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at LA IVF.
Dr kuo felt that we could decide on how many we wanted to implant. He did warn us the higher the number the more risk there will be.
He [Dr. Bayrak] is very much about the science and always trying to make it a more efficient and cost effect process for the patient. He is understanding of the emotional rollercoaster that this process is and makes you feel like your in safe hands... I just didn't react to the medication like he hoped. He put me on a more aggressive protocol and we retrieved the same number of eggs, 20 and 2 made it to 5 days embryos.

Describe the protocols Aykut Bayrak used in your cycles at LA IVF and their degree of success.
I started on the regular protocol but had a failed cycle, no embryos made it to 5 days. I just didn't react to the medication like he hoped. He put me on a more aggressive protocol and we retrieved the same number of eggs, 20 and 2 made it to 5 days embryos. We froze those and went for a 3rd cycle with the same protocol and had 1 more embryos make it to 5 days. We did genetic testing and had 2 out if 3 pass. We decided to transfer 1, Dr. Bayrak was confident that I could hold a pregnancy and he was correct.

Describe Aykut Bayrak's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at LA IVF.
He is going to do what's best for you. We left it up to him on how many he needed to transfer. We only transferred 1 out of the 2. He will not transfer more then 2 at a time.
Dr Bayrak recommended one frozen embryo transfer and it was successful and he explained the benefits of approaching it that way and we went with his recommendation...I never felt rushed. He answered all of our questions. As we went through this journey I honestly felt like he wanted us to succeed and get pregnant...During our first visit I appreciated that he presented options to us and was very knowledgeable and experienced. We began our journey with him and I did feel like he honestly wanted us to succeed and get pregnant. We did two IUI’s you that were not successful and then changed over to the IVF process. The process is very difficult emotionally and physically but he did his best to prepare us and explained things well. With all appointments I never felt that he rushed me and always took time to answer my questions.
I did have multiple nurses helping us along the way [at LA IVF]. They all were friendly and provided the appropriate level of information... I appreciated that it was a smaller practice and you could tell that he [Dr. Bayrak] cared about his patients and wasn’t in it just for the money. Only weakness is that he works out of multiple offices so sometimes it took a little bit more time to schedule since I was working but we made it work

With our first round of IVF with Dr Bayrak we did the extra genetic testing and carrier screening this time, as he recommended since we had been down this journey before. We did a frozen embryo transfer with one embryo. We were successful at getting pregnant and our baby girl is due mid November this year. Our little miracle and blessing for our family is finally coming true and I have Dr Bayrak and his team of nurses to thank.
