Attention to Detail

Attention to detail is on a 1 - 10 scale, and is scored based on the rate, and severity, of errors committed by the clinic according to the patients.

For example, a severe error might be failing to inform a patient of critical information, while a small error might be failing to call a patient with results.

CDC Success Rates

This is the most recent data from the CDC. The CDC cautions that it should not be used to compare doctors and clinics. This data represents the outcomes of IVF cycles when using a person's own eggs.

For more information please see our FAQs.

Where you see a “?” on the chart, a clinic has done fewer than 20 cycles in this category and age range, so the CDC says showing percentages from this small data set would be misleading and unreliable.

During one of the FETs, Dr. Yelian was late and my poor little 5BB hatching embryo sat out in the cold operating room temperature for over 45 minutes as I laid there prepped and ready for the transfer...During one of our retrieval rounds, we were told that we need to pay an additional $1,000 if we want the doctor to release the next day's medication protocol based on my blood test results...
the Life IVF Embryology lab did not meet my expectations...They asked us for $1,000 additional during the middle of the retrieval cycle (which we had already paid) 2) The embryology lab decided to not test my embryos without telling me, which ended up costing us more to do the transfer and have it fail 3) the doctor and the Embryology lab allowed my 5BB embryo to sit out in the cold operating room for 45 minutes because he was running late to the FET
How was your experience with Frank Yelian at Life IVF Center?
During one of our retrieval rounds, we were told that we need to pay an additional $1,000 if we want the doctor to release the next day's medication protocol based on my blood test results. We were shocked. So they were holding hostage my medication protocol, which the doctor would recommend based on my blood test results unless we paid them $1,000. If we didn't pay the $1,000, we would not get what the doctor deemed necessary for a successful retrieval cycle. So my husband and I sat in our bedroom thinking if we don't give this $1,000 now, we may not get the optimal medication protocol, and that could ruin our chances of getting to our goal of pregnancy/baby. But if we pay this surprise additional $1,000 now, the doctor would release the updated medication protocol and we may have a better chance (maybe). We could not figure out what to do. How could a doctor put his patient through this? What kind of clinic are we working with? We were trapped. If we don't pay the $1,000 we may regret it for the rest of our lives. If we pay $1,000 and it fails, we would never know if it was related to this updated medication protocol or not. This doctor put us through hell with this extraordinary situation. I feel like the standard of care at Life IVF is the lowest possible that can be legally provided in the US. I feel that they are unethical for putting us through this $1,000 debacle. They discourage women from having anesthesia and pressure them to get all retrievals done without any anesthesia or pain meds. I have more examples: 1) For one of my retrieval cycles, the embryology lab decided to not test my two 4BB day-5 embryos and just froze them without asking us. Of course, we transferred those and they didn't work, and that cost us a lot of money when a PGT-A test could've saved us heartbreak, time, and money. 2) During one of the FETs, Dr. Yelian was late and my poor little 5BB hatching embryo sat out in the cold operating room temperature for over 45 minutes as I laid there prepped and ready for the transfer. I think he caused my embryo to terminate by being late. The embryology lab should not have allowed this to happen, why bring out the embryo if the doctor isn't ready for it. One of the biggest factors in an IVF cycle is the Embryology lab and the Life IVF Embryology lab did not meet my expectations. I rate this doctor and the lab below zero.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Frank Yelian at Life IVF Center?
Do not go to this doctor. Please go to literally anyone else. Run away from this doctor. Every dollar you spend is a dollar you've burned. I feel that this doctor is worthless, unethical, and did not provide proper care to me as his patient.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Frank Yelian at Life IVF Center?
the doctor only saw us once, only the staff (who are not actually RNs) saw us and provided us with our blood test results. We had to pay extra to see the doctor. They gave us the same exact medication protocol without making any modifications. as if we were identical to all patients.
Describe the protocols Frank Yelian used in your cycles at Life IVF Center and their degree of success.
They called the protocols "minimal" or "optimal". it was a combination of Estrace, Clomid, Gonal-F, and Menopur. I've had 5 retrievals with this doctor and each was mostly identical to the other. I have kept all the medication protocol records in a google sheet.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at Life IVF Center.
The nurses are not nurses, they are medical assistants. Life IVF may have a nurse on their staff but we never saw that person. the medcial assistants were nice people.
Describe your experience with Life IVF Center.
On the outside, they appear to be a real and legitimate science-based medical practice. But it's just a sham. They use an online portal which gives the illusion that everything is under control and technologically updated. The online portal is the only thing that works there. The doctors that have made the decision to not have an updated embryology lab and to use third-world country practices, which makes this place a sad clinic. please do not go to this clinic.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Frank Yelian at Life IVF Center.
We spent over $50,000 on procedures at this clinic, not including medication and driving back and forth.

I've given 3 major terrible experiences that we had at this clinic. I just don't want anyone else to burn their hard-earned money at this place. 1) They asked us for $1,000 additional during the middle of the retrieval cycle (which we had already paid) 2) The embryology lab decided to not test my embryos without telling me, which ended up costing us more to do the transfer and have it fail 3) the doctor and the Embryology lab allowed my 5BB embryo to sit out in the cold operating room for 45 minutes because he was running late to the FET

How was your experience with Frank Yelian at Life IVF Center?
Dr. Yelian took the time to listen to our story without interrupting and truly listened. It felt very validating to be able to explain our journey. He said that with every appointment, we could see him if we wanted to, but that we might just have to wait longer. He explained his suggestions clearly and was able to provide solid statistics, which my husband who is in the science and medical field really appreciated. He was very nice and warm. We really liked meeting with him the couple of times we did.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Frank Yelian at Life IVF Center?
I would tell a person who is going to see Dr. Yelian to releax and that Dr. Yelian has a lot of experience in Mild Stimulation IVF so he's trustworthy. I'd suggest to write down all your questions incase you get nervous in the moment and can't remember them.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Frank Yelian at Life IVF Center?
From the first email inquiry, the new patient coordinator was super friendly, prompt and thorough in her responses. On the first visit, the new patient coordinator welcomed us and walked us to the main office, whcih is only across the hall, but it was a really nice touch to have them accompany us. Throughout the appointment, they checked in with us to let us know what step was next. That first evaluation visit, we met with about 5 different people in person and they were all aware of what the person before them talked about. I was super impressed that they just had us move through a very organized process. Dr. Yelian himself was very kind, listened, allowed us to tell our story and validated us. It was a great experience.
Describe the protocols Frank Yelian used in your cycles at Life IVF Center and their degree of success.
The nurse met with us to go over our treatment strategy. They were very detailed and precise of dosages to take and when to come in for monitoring. On Day 3 of my cycle, I started by taking Chlomid and 50 mg 1 x per day and Gonal F 75 units 1 x per day for 6 days. On day 7, I returned to the clinic for a blood and transvaginal ultrasound. My medication was then tweaked to: continue Clomid 50 mg, Gonal F 75 units, and added Provera 1 x per day for 4 days. I took this combo for 3 more days before returning to the clinic. I continued to take the Clomid and Gonal and Provera adn thbut added a few more injections 2 days before my egg retrieval. The added medicatioins were: Ganirelix Acetate 125 mg (they gave this to me in the clinic), Menopur 150 units injected, Pregnyl/Novarel JCG 2000 units and Lupron/Acetate, 30 units. All of the injetions listed above had a very specific time I had to give them. Egg retrieval was scheduled for 2 days later and I was provided instructions on what to eat/drink the morning of. I was given 1 valium and 1 Norco to take the morning of the egg retrieval. I was given the option to be sedated if I wanted to, but they said many people can handle the pain, so I opted to do it with just the pain pills.
Describe your experience with your nurse at Life IVF Center. (Assigned nurse: there are several that reply)
There are several different nurses and the entire process works like clockwork. On the first visit, the nurse sat with us and explained the various options for medication, where we could purchase them online for less money, as well as purchasing them in their office directly or calling medication into our local pharmacy. They took the time to explain the process, as a follow up to meeting with Dr. Yelian, which was comforting to hear the exact same thing repeated, so they worked with each other to relay information, signaling strong communication. The nurse also showed how to use the injections and had a sample shot so we understood how to do them. They are also very responsive to emails. The only things I was dissapointed in was when we messed up one of the trigger shots 2 days before the egg retrieval and tried to call the after hours/emergency #. There was not an answer and we did not hear back for 2-3 hours. We were quite concerned, as it was the weekend and wasn't sure if it was going to mess everything up. Thankfully, when they did get back to us, they said it was ok and not to worry. Other than that, they have been great and prompt with calling you back and moving you along.
Describe your experience with Life IVF Center.
We did the Mini IVF, which this place specializes in because we didn't want all the hormones and injections associated with traditional IVF. The facility itself is nice and clean and this place runs like clockwork! You can tell from the moment you get there that this is their expertise because they They have a very organized process. All new patients are seen in one office (just across the hall from the main office), which is where you do all the initial testing, evaluation (my favorite part was the fancy bidet toilet! ha) Then, they personally walk you over across the hall which is a really nice touch, where you wait before seeing Dr. Yelian. After meeting with the Dr. They have you go back to the waiting room. We then met with the nurse who explained everything to us, down to what medications can be purchased online vs. from their office directly and the pros/cons. They then took us to sit with the billing department who went over in detail the cost of everything. Again, they took the time to listen, answered questions in detail and were very nice. The monitoring appointments were great, and I experience the same organization each appointment as I did on my first visit. Each time I've emailed to ask a question, I get a very quick response. I was a bit nervous for the egg retrieval, but the staff made me feel really comfortable and the recovery chair and blanket were super cozy!
Describe the costs associated with your care under Frank Yelian at Life IVF Center.
Typically a mini IVF is between $14-16 K. We were lucky to be granted a promotional package for $10,000 to do all the services in their new location in Arcadia. However, due to Covid, we wound up doing most appoiintments in their Irvine location.
Describe Frank Yelian's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Life IVF Center.
If I remember correctly, he said typically they put in a single embryo for the first one and I believe would re-evaluate if that doesn't work.

Success w/ Doc Too early to know
Dr. Yelian is very kind and will answer your questions IF you get the chance to see him. Mostly you will have contact with nurses. He is very optimistic and gives everyone a chance at success, though I was under the impression that this would be much easier than it has been. I'm not sure if I'm just that unfortunate or if they present an inflated success rate... Some of the frustration is from not getting to talk to a doctor and hear the reasons for the particular treatment plan. The nurses send over the ultrasound information and bloodwork results for a doctor to review in Irvine. This is my least favorite aspect of the clinic. I like to know why things are being done a certain way, but if you want to talk to a doctor about your treatment plan, it will cost you $75.
At no point did anyone. [at Life IVF Center] talk with us about the unlikelihood of getting a healthy egg from this. They just pressed on. We had wanted to cancel a week before this, but were encouraged to keep going by the nurse, since that is what the doctor's treatment plan had in it. My husband and I ended up cancelling the cycle on day 18, but we had wasted thousands of extra dollars on meds at that point (plus they charged us $250 for the extra office visit because we went over 5x). If we hadn't cancelled the cycle, we would have been out all of the money when the egg retrieved was (presumably) unusable. At least by cancelling it we were able to use the package again, though we had to pay the $850 monitoring fee and purchase meds for another cycle. So little counsel through the process.

What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Frank Yelian at Life IVF Center?
Ask questions. Don't let them treat you like a number. If you just go along with things, they will continue to take your money even if there is little chance for success. For one cycle, the follicles weren't growing very much so they more than doubled the drugs I was on. The next time I went in they hadn't grown at all, even with all the extra injectables. I went in a few days later and all the follicles had atrophied except one, which hadn't grown for days. By day 18 it was clear this cycle wasn't going anywhere, but they wanted to trigger me and try to get the (1) 13mm follicle that hadn't grown in a week. At no point did anyone talk with us about the unlikelihood of getting a healthy egg from this. They just pressed on. We had wanted to cancel a week before this, but were encouraged to keep going by the nurse, since that is what the doctor's treatment plan had in it. During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Frank Yelian at Life IVF Center?
Dr. Yelian is kind, however, it is rare to have much interaction with him outside of the procedure room. Even then, more than 50% of the time another Dr. (usually Dr. Kao) would do the egg retrieval. The office is very busy in Irvine, though I usually go to Arcadia. The nurses are generally kind, but I was often frustrated that I couldn't get straight answers to my questions. I've done 2 egg retrievals and 6 IVF cycles (of those one was cancelled, another had 0 eggs that fertilized, and one cycle none of the fertilized eggs made it to Day 5). It has been a very emotionally exhausting and frustrating experience.
Describe the protocols Frank Yelian used in your cycles at Life IVF Center and their degree of success.
Mini IVF. 50mg Clomid (or less if your FSH is over 15). Injectables starting on day 2, 3, or 4, usually of Gonal-F. If that isn't working they either switch over to Menapur or add it in. Once follicles get to the appropriate size they will trigger you with Lupron and (usually) HCG. The retrieval is 35 hours later. The reason we went with a clinic that did Mini IVF was because we had read that embryo quality could possibly be better with less meds. Also, because I have diminished ovarian reserve I probably wouldn't be able to get a lot of eggs even with more medication. Since going through all of this, I have come across some clinics that disagree with the Mini IVF protocol. In their opinion the quality isn't better and you waste a lot of time getting just a few eggs per cycle. I've heard it takes twice as many cycles to conceive.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at Life IVF Center.
The nursing staff at the Arcadia location is great. Very friendly and compassionate. The nurses at the Irvine location are very busy. Some of the nurses in Irvine are extremely knowledgable and have been helpful in answering all my questions.
Describe your experience with Life IVF Center.
Very busy. I enjoy going to the Arcadia location, but they are only open M-F. Almost every cycle I end up having to go to Irvine on a Saturday for a monitoring appointment. Also, all procedures are done in Irvine. I wasn't expecting to have to do that much driving. I chose the clinic partially because Arcadia isn't too far from my home. When I go to Irvine on a Saturday I end up waiting around a lot. The majority of the time it takes a few hours at the clinic, so, plus driving time, it takes up half of the day every time I go.
What specific things went wrong at Life IVF Center?
  • Failed to call in prescriptions to pharmacy
  • Failed to call with results
  • Failed to convey critical information
Describe the specific things that went wrong at Life IVF Center.
The clinic runs very efficiently as long as nothing is out of order. I've been there when the blood work machine stopped working and they had to send lab tests out (which of course slowed everything down). One of the nurses has forgotten to fill in all the areas for the meds used for the egg retrieval twice. Because it is a narcotic, the pharmacy can't take it unless it is precisely filled out. Once the trigger shot was not put in my bag, which sent me into a complete panic (I realized it after driving an hour back home). They are usually backlogged on Saturdays and it borders on chaotic.

he [Dr. Yelian] glances through your information in front of you and then begins your consult. He is moderately friendly, just maybe would like if I felt like he knew my info before I entered his office. He did call me a few times through my treatments...After my miscarriages I didn't hear from him personally either time...approached IVF totally differently and I appreciate that. He changes his protical for each patient and adjusts meds along the way if necessary. He's not much of a talker so be prepared to ask questions if you have them because after your first meeting with him you you have to pay to see him which feels pretty wrong to me.
The nurses are crazy busy [at Life IVF Center] but super kind and compassionate...[staff] told me the gender of our embryos when we said we didn't want to know. I didn't like that when you do your beta after a transfer if you don't wait the 1-2 hours for your blood test results, they don't call you with the results, instead you have to look them up online. I haven't heard of any other clinic being that impersonal...This is a mini and natural IVF clinic so meds are used at a minimum. I did mini IVF which for me meant clomid starting CD3 and then only 4 days of low dose stims (menopur and gonal-f).
How was your experience with Frank Yelian at Life IVF Center?
Dr Yelian approached IVF totally differently and I appreciate that. He changes his protical for each patient and adjusts meds along the way if necessary. He's not much of a talker so be prepared to ask questions if you have them because after your first meeting with him you you have to pay to see him which feels pretty wrong to me. I had to pay to have a phone call with him after my miscarriage at 12 weeks to discuss his thoughts on it. I feel like that phone call should have just happened.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Frank Yelian at Life IVF Center?
Be clear about your desired outcome and method. Also, go prepared with all of your questions. Don't expect to see him really ever....but if that is important to you, spend the money to get the face to face time.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Frank Yelian at Life IVF Center?
This is a very busy clinic. You get called in to see the dr, he glances through your information in front of you and then begins your consult. He is moderately friendly, just maybe would like if I felt like he knew my info before I entered his office. He did call me a few times through my treatments, once when I was in the waiting room which was kinda weird. After my miscarriages I didn't hear from him personally either time. The first time a different dr called me; the second time I was supposed to get a call but never did.
Describe the protocols Frank Yelian used in your cycles at Life IVF Center and their degree of success.
This is a mini and natural IVF clinic so meds are used at a minimum. I did mini IVF which for me meant clomid starting CD3 and then only 4 days of low dose stims (menopur and gonal-f). I had 15 follicles but had an early LH surge so I lost the dominant follicle and only had 2 mature eggs out of the 10 that they retrieved. Second transfer took less meds (less menopur) and resulted in 9 mature eggs of which I got 5 5-day blasts. Pretty good numbers for mini IVF at 40.
Describe your experience with your nurse at Life IVF Center. (Assigned nurse: Anna)
The nurses are crazy busy but super kind and compassionate.
Describe your experience with Life IVF Center.
Their biggest strength is their approach to IVF using little or no drugs. They are able to help many women with DOR and advanced maternal age with his methods. The downside is that the clinic is crazy busy and appointments are long while you wait for your results to be reviewed by the dr. Because they are so busy, some of the details get lost in the shuffle so you need to be super organized. They also told me the gender of our embryos when we said we didn't want to know. I didn't like that when you do your beta after a transfer if you don't wait the 1-2 hours for your blood test results, they don't call you with the results, instead you have to look them up online. I haven't heard of any other clinic being that impersonal. Also, I was on Dr. Yellian's "call log" 2-3 times for him to call me. Once he was 2 days late calling me, the second time he never called. It was after a chemical pregnancy and I felt like I deserved at least his thoughts on it.
Describe your experience with your monitoring appointments at Life IVF Center.
Very busy but they get everyone in quickly for bloodwork and ultrasounds but then you wait sometimes for over an hour for the results and any changes in protocol. If you're in a hurry, you can leave and have the nurse call you with results.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Frank Yelian at Life IVF Center.
I believe the cost has gone up but I paid about $10K for one mini IVF including monitoring, meds, retrieval and frozen transfer. PGS testing is $1k per embryo.
Describe Frank Yelian's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Life IVF Center.
He's a strong advocate for single transfers but will do 2 on a case by case basis.
What specific things went wrong at Life IVF Center?
  • Lost paperwork
  • Lost appointments
  • Failed to call with results
  • Failed to consider drug intolerance
Describe the specific things that went wrong at Life IVF Center.
They asked for the same paperwork several times. I kept a folder of our test results with me so that if they ever asked I had it all with me. Dr Yellian wanted to put me on blood thinning drugs after my miscarriage. I had some concerns and he said it was fine to not be on them. I felt like I could have spent $300/month on a drug that I probably didn't need, especially when my miscarriage was marked by lots of bleeding before and during.

Dr. Yelian is incredibly intelligent and has developed unique protocols to help a variety of patients using the lowest doses of medication as possible. He speaks very quickly but always took the time that I needed. He doesn't always explain unless you ask, but once you ask he will provide detailed information. He was responsive to my needs and desires as a patient and adapted protocol to best work for me.
The clinic [at Life IVF Center] communication is often frustrating for a few reasons and sometimes mistakes are sent in protocols. It is often up to the patient to double check everything and to advocate for themselves...There are no true assignments, so you're usually speaking with a different nurse every time you call in or email...The clinic regularly changes pricing and package options (for instance, 3 retrievals + transfer + monitoring).

What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Frank Yelian at Life IVF Center?
Don't be afraid to ask questions of Dr. Y, get on his call log frequently for any reason, and know that he will talk very fast.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Frank Yelian at Life IVF Center?
Life IVF Center is a high-volume clinic with many patients. Although one or two of the staff recognize me, the clinic organization/set up is to provide high-quality patient-centric care based on patient needs but isn't too concerned with hand-holding or learning a ton about a patient as an individual human.
Describe the protocols Frank Yelian used in your cycles at Life IVF Center and their degree of success.
Dr. Yelian has developed and perfected mini IVF protocols for IVF and prefers to use a natrual/modified natural protocol for FET (use body's own ovulation when possible). It is not helpful to post doses for meds because each protocol is individualized based on labs and ultrasound monitoring; typically he uses a combination of clomid, menopur, and gonal-f/follistim.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at Life IVF Center.
There are multiple nursing staff and they're all polite and professional. There are no true assignments, so you're usually speaking with a different nurse every time you call in or email.
Describe your experience with Life IVF Center.
This clinic is well-known for success with people who have diminished ovarian reserve, poor egg quality, and using the lowest doses of medication feasible to achieve high quality eggs (quality over quantity). The clinic communication is often frustrating for a few reasons and sometimes mistakes are sent in protocols. It is often up to the patient to double check everything and to advocate for themselves.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Frank Yelian at Life IVF Center.
Fortunately, my fertility treatments and medications were covered by health insurance. Some services were billed as cash-only, for instance, PGT testing of embryos is $1000 per embryo. $250 per cycle is charged if you are doing remote or offsite monitoring for a cycle. The clinic regularly changes pricing and package options (for instance, 3 retrievals + transfer + monitoring).
Describe Frank Yelian's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Life IVF Center.
No comments; I planned to transfer one PGT-A euploid embryo and that was allowed.
What specific things went wrong at Life IVF Center?
  • Lost paperwork
  • Failed to order appropriate test
  • Provided conflicting information
Describe the specific things that went wrong at Life IVF Center.
The high volume of patients means that the nurses are doing too many things all the time. On several occasions I was sent the incorrect protocol (both for IVF and FET), and even when I addressed it with a nurse, the re-send was incorrect. There is a burden on the patients to know and push for their protocol.

As the lead doctor of the clinic he [Dr. Frank Yelian] oversaw all the treatment even if I did not see him at every visit. He made himself available to answer questions or consult before the start of a new treatment and at the end of treatment. Overall, I felt he provided excellent care and treatment and adjusted medications accordingly to what was needed. I really appreciated that his priority was to choose the least invasive treatments as possible for the most optimal results for each patient.
The [Live IVF Center] clinic has excellent doctors and first rate staff. While staff might have changed since my treatment started here, I trust that they operate still at optimal levels. They are generally very organized and continue to provide excellent customer service...All the nurses were very approachable, kind, and explained treatment procedures well. Generally, I felt well cared for by nursing staff. My questions were often answered kindly with a short period of time (phone or email).

Attend his information seminars! He offers many opportunities for couples to win a free cycle of treatment. He's incredibly generous with his patients and you can tell his heart is in all that he does.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Frank Yelian at Life IVF Center?
Treatment was determined as case by case basis based on many factors including results of blood tests. I felt Dr. Yelian opted for least invasive treatment as possible given my particular and individual circumstances.
Describe the protocols Frank Yelian used in your cycles at Life IVF Center and their degree of success.
Yelian did not do a generic "one size fits all" treatment, as I recall. I remember that I would often not know the date of my next treatment until the treatment date before. While this was frustrating from a certain standpoint because I had to often give short notice of my time off from work, from a treatment standpoint, it meant that he was basing his treatment protocol off of the levels my body was giving from lab tests. He used what he called minimal/optimal stimulation IVF. Meaning, the least invasive procedures and medication necessary for the most optimal results.

Describe the costs associated with your care under Frank Yelian at Life IVF Center.
I don't remember but it was similar if not more affordable than another clinic I was looking at.
Describe Frank Yelian's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Life IVF Center.
Generally, my first FET I was recommended to do a single embryo transfer. After a successful live birth, he had no problem putting more than one embryo in. I think he also considers the age and health factors of each patient. So I don't think he gives the same recommendation to each patient.

Success w/ Doc Too early to know
Dr. Yelian is the kindest, most compassionate physician. I have been told that my only option is egg donor due to POI and he didn't hesitate to take me on as a patient. He understood my need to try with my own eggs and has been extremely hopeful despite two cancelled cycles; with my third cycle I was able to retrieve my own egg which is essentially a miracle in my eyes given my high FSH and multiple previously cancelled cycles.
This clinic [Life IVF Center] is ideal for women with diminished ovarian reserve and premature ovarian insufficiency; they won't turn you away and will work with you with low doses of medications. They will try multiple different protocols until your body produces the desired outcome and won't give up on you. I needed a clinic that would be positive and Dr. Yelian has been absolutely amazing. We are still in the midst of our IVF journey but I have been extremely pleased with my outcome so far.

Please don't let any negative online reviews deter you from this clinic; if you have DOR/POI, please, please, please give this clinic a chance.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Frank Yelian at Life IVF Center?
Dr. Yelian has taken a personal interest in my case and has called me personally on numerous occasions. I have tried to give up multiple times but he has been my cheerleader and given me anecdotal success stories that have encouraged me to continue.
Describe the protocols Frank Yelian used in your cycles at Life IVF Center and their degree of success.
Dr. Yelian does minimal stimulation IVF; for my first cycle we did estrogen 2 mg every day followed by adding necon; this was cancelled as I didn't develop any follicles. My second cycle was 2 mg estrogen bid with added necon once daily; I had a cyst during this cycle that was read mistakenly as a follicle during my outside monitoring; I underwent cyst drainage and this cycle was also cancelled. My third cycle was estrace 2 mg bid with necon once daily every other day; I finally developed a follicle around day 35 and he added low dose gonal (50 daily) which resulted in an 18 mm follicle that was retrieved successfully.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at Life IVF Center.
The nurses always pick up every time I call which is not always the case from other clinics I have worked with.

How was your experience with Frank Yelian at Life IVF Center?
At the seminar, Dr. Yelain seemed hopeful for every patient. He explained the difference of traditional and mini IVF. I was sold with his hopeful words and also won the free natural cycle. When attending the first consult, I felt like I was talking to a different person. He didn't really pay attention. He was busy typing away on his computer. He didn't really explain anything and answered my questions very short. I let it pass by, understanding that he is a busy doctor and of course I had won the natural cycle. The cycle that I won is not 100% paid, there were other fees that needed to be paid. It was better than nothing. You only see the doctor during the retrieval and transfer. There are other doctors that will do your retrievals. I have only seen Dr. Yelian 4 times during the whole process. I felt like he doesn't care as much after the seminar. I have discussed an issue about my thyroid and he doesn't believe that it has to be lower than 2.5. He said as long as your are in normal range, I was fine. I asked about using baby aspirin after the embryo transfer and he said there is no need. He doesn't seem to be open to other options. He only has his ways. Only positive thing I would say is that he is quick with his hands doing the retrievals and the transfers.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Frank Yelian at Life IVF Center?
You will only see the doctor during retrievals and transfers so take advantage during the time to ask questions and concerns.

Describe the protocols Frank Yelian used in your cycles at Life IVF Center and their degree of success.
This a mini IVF which used low dose of medication and not as many as traditional IVF. Always started with clomid. Then incorporated shots menopur and gonal-f. The shots were not everyday. Did four retrievals and resulted 2 normal embryo that are PGT tested.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at Life IVF Center.
The nurses at the Irvine were so friendly. I like going to this location because of the nurses. I felt at ease during the procedure because of the nurses and how they took care of me. You deal with the nurses mostly. Only time I had an issue was with the Arcadia nurse. I asked her if I needed any new mediation and she told me no. She has given me the wrong informaiton. After couple hours, I got a call that I needed a medication. The Arcadia closes early so I had to drive all the way to Irvine. And also had to get off work early. I was so thankful for the nurse at Irvine for waiting for me. All the staff were friendly, helpful and caring.
Describe your experience with Life IVF Center.
The price might be cheaper than traditional IVF. However, it will add up and become the same price. Also, the process might take longer because you have to couple retrievals to get normal embryos. It is fast paced, you go in and out. There are a lot of patients so it gets busy. The bad part about it is that you have to wait for the results to get your medication. For patients that are working, it's so inconvenient to get off work to go back. On the weekends have to wait at the clinic for couple hours to get the results and pick up medication for who don't live in the area. It is nice that they have all the medication that can be picked up from the clinic but also it's inconvenient for those who live father.
Describe your experience with your monitoring appointments at Life IVF Center.
I went to Arcadia location mostly since it was closet. There weren't that many patients as much as the Irvine. It was easy to make appointments in the morning since I had to go to work afterwards. On the weekends I went to Irvine and there is a wait. Mostly you go in and out. Very fast paced.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Frank Yelian at Life IVF Center.
It depends on which package you buy. First egg retrieval $5800.00. Medication about $1000-$2000. Embryo transfer $3800.00. Also, they have all inclusive package that I bought for $10,000. It includes, egg retrieval, embryo transfer, medication and PGT testing.
What specific things went wrong at Life IVF Center?
  • Failed to call in prescriptions to pharmacy
Describe the specific things that went wrong at Life IVF Center.
There were two things that went wrong. One was at the retrieval day. I was one of the first patient on a Sunday morning. If you have retrieval on Sunday there is an extra fee. I was laying on the bed and ready to go. The view on the monitor was not showing a clear picture. They had to change out the monitor, while I was laying on the bed with my legs spread. Dr.Yelian did not even say sorry or talked about the situation. I was extra nervous since you are awake through the whole process. At least, the nurse was so sweet. Another incident was during embryo transfer in Arcadia. Finally they had opened for the retrievals and transfers. Right after the embryo transfer Dr. Yelian would insert the Endometrin in for you. Because they didn't have the equipemnt to insert, the nurse had given me to put it myself in the bathroom. I thought this two incident was unprofessional.

Dr. Yelian’s preferred approach is “natural IVF”. Our first egg retrieval we actually did not use any medication at all...His thought process in doing natural IVF is focusing on your own eggs and not overstimulating your body to overproduce eggs...because I have not been pregnant yet, Dr. Yelian preferred to do one embryo transfer and said once I have been pregnant and had birthed then he’d feel more comfortable transferring 2 embryos.
I think the clinic [Life IVF Center] overall is advanced in their field of natural IVF. The clinic itself is nice, and in a pretty area near lots of restaurants and shopping centers...due you to the fact that they are focused on egg quality rather than quantity and they are not retrieving as many eggs as conventional IVF, you are awake during the egg retrieval process. You are able to take pain medication or they do offer light sedation.
How was your experience with Frank Yelian at Life IVF Center?
Dr. Yelian, himself, is great. He is quiet, let’s you talk, is confident and then will give you all the details. We have only met with him 3 times, he did call after our first failed round and was very sincere and made us feel confident in our future treatments.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Frank Yelian at Life IVF Center?
Communicate any concerns and ask as many questions as you can. You have every right to know what is going on with your treatment plan and your body.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Frank Yelian at Life IVF Center?
We had a situation where we were notified of our negative HCG results in the waiting room. It was a traumatic moment, especially with this being our first ever IVF round. We later notified the clinic once we were somewhat through with grieving. The head nurse called to apologize and said she will be speaking with the other nurses as this is not their protocol.
Describe the protocols Frank Yelian used in your cycles at Life IVF Center and their degree of success.
Dr. Yelian’s preferred approach is “natural IVF”. Our first egg retrieval we actually did not use any medication at all. For the transfer I took progesterone and estrogen, then a few days after the transfer I ended up having to do daily injections. For the second egg retrieval I did have to use light stimulation which included a daily injection for seven days, and 2 oral medications. His thought process in doing natural IVF is focusing on your own eggs and not overstimulating your body to overproduce eggs. Focusing on quality rather than quantity. Our first round we did a fresh day 2 embryo transfer that unfortunately did not take. We’re in the midst of our second cycle, we have 1 day 6 embryo but due to Covid-19 our transfer has been cancelled.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at Life IVF Center.
There are two nurses and one phlebotomist that I really love here. The two nurses know me by name, know all about my cycles, and I speak with them the most. The other nurses that I have experienced may just not be as involved in the cycles, for example the one who notified us of our negative HCG result in the waiting room was not one of the two nurses that I usually speak with. Other nurses I’ve spoken to over the phone have been somewhat hard to communicate with, due to English not being their first language. Which, by all means, I am very patient and understanding of this. I do not have any problem with it at all, it just makes for harder communication at times.
Describe your experience with Life IVF Center.
I think the clinic overall is advanced in their field of natural IVF. The clinic itself is nice, and in a pretty area near lots of restaurants and shopping centers. Coming from San Diego it’s nice to have this accessible due to waiting for lab results. Unfortunately my husband has not been able to be with me during my egg retrieval or embryo transfer. Which brings me to...due you to the fact that they are focused on egg quality rather than quantity and they are not retrieving as many eggs as conventional IVF, you are awake during the egg retrieval process. You are able to take pain medication or they do offer light sedation. I have taken pain medication and anti-anxiety medication for these procedures, while it is pretty painful, is very short, about 15 to 20 minutes and the nurses are there holding your hand the whole time. You are able to watch the retrieval and transfer on the ultrasound screen.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Frank Yelian at Life IVF Center.
We got lucky with our insurance which covered the majority of our monitoring appointments. We had to pay for the egg retrieval on the first day of our monitoring appointments and the transfer about a week before. So far for 2 cycles I believe we have paid about $15k.
Describe Frank Yelian's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Life IVF Center.
For us personally, because I have not been pregnant yet, Dr. Yelian preferred to do one embryo transfer and said once I have been pregnant and had birthed then he’d feel more comfortable transferring 2 embryos.

Every time I see the doctor to consult my treatment plan, he doesn't answer the questions directly. He always says that the treatment can be started according to his opinions and doesn't give the patient a detailed and serious answer... when I went to doctor ye, I made it clear that I wanted to try new treatments, such as long-term ovulation. Dr. Ye agreed. You can give me a try. According to doctor Ye's plan, I can enter the cycle after taking estrogen for 2 weeks. However, before I entered the cycle, doctor ye did completely change his previous plan.
their [Life IVF] nurses are very professional and responsible. Every time I get a detailed explanation from the nurse, even the treatment plan, because the doctor hardly explains it. I am very satisfied with that... The clinic is good as a whole, all links are orderly and well coordinated. From the blood test, ultrasound, egg operation and other departments are very mature, each staff are very skilled, fast, professional. The biggest advantage of this clinic is its low price, which allows patients with different needs to choose different packages or single service items. This is very humane and saves a lot of unnecessary costs for patients.
How was your experience with Frank Yelian at Life IVF Center?
First of all, I would like to point out that their nurses are very professional and responsible. Every time I get a detailed explanation from the nurse, even the treatment plan, because the doctor hardly explains it. I am very satisfied with that. I did three failed Mini IVF in other clinics, none of which passed the PGs blastocyst. So when I went to doctor ye, I made it clear that I wanted to try new treatments, such as long-term ovulation. Dr. Ye agreed. You can give me a try. According to doctor Ye's plan, I can enter the cycle after taking estrogen for 2 weeks. However, before I entered the cycle, doctor ye did completely change his previous plan. He asked me to start my next cycle again after menstruation, because the endometrium is a little thick. I don't understand. I just take the eggs, and I don't do the transfer at that time. It's like going back to my old plan. But I still did it according to the doctor's advice, and the result was the same as the previous failure experience.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Frank Yelian at Life IVF Center?
No matter what kind of failure experience or good experience you have in other clinics before, Dr. ye will not refer to the previous data when making treatment plans or medication. Because every time I have questions, he doesn't know the failure cases that these drugs will cause to me. So either you start a new life with him, or you don't expect him to make sustainable plans based on your past experience.

Please refer to my explanation of the previous question. He didn't give me any plan. He didn't think the cycle would perform well, so he cancelled the cycle directly.

Due to the change of treatment plan, the medication was different, which led to my poor response to the drug. Due to the sharp rise of FSH, it can not enter the cycle normally for two months.

Success w/ Doc Too early to know
I have one frozen blastocyst that I plan on transferring [with Dr. Yelian]. I feel fortunate to have even gotten this far after 5 IVF cycles...I had my consultation with Dr. Yelian and then had my egg retrieval performed by him. He was available to answer any questions or concerns that I had. Very responsive, polite and informative. I appreciated that Dr. Yelian believed that we could still keep trying with our own eggs...was very kind and easy to talk to.
I was flying into Irvine from Oakland for treatment [at Life IVF Center] so the staff was very accommodating with my flight times...My appointments were never with the same nurses. It was a very efficient office and I appreciated the ease of making appointments and getting information about my course of treatment and answers to any questions I may have had...I went through two other clinics before coming to Life IVF so knew what to expect with an IVF cycle. I appreciated the direct approach and efficiency of this clinic. If you are looking for more hand-holding from a fertility clinic then this might not be a good first choice. Dr. Yelian was very kind and easy to talk to. The other Doctors in the clinic were also very respectful and encouraging. I've had a positive experience with this clinic and the Doctors.

During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Frank Yelian at Life IVF Center?
Life IVF is a very high throughput fertility clinic. After my experience with two prior clinics I felt that I was confident being my own advocate and be able to maneuver my way through the fertility treatment gauntlet on my own with minimal "hand-holding". I had an initial consultation over the phone with Dr. Yelian before beginning the agreed upon treatment. As soon as my cycle began, I called in and the appropriate appointments were scheduled. I was flying into Irvine from Oakland for treatment so the staff was very accommodating with my flight times. I would go and check in for my appointment. A nurse would see me for a blood draw and then another nurse would take care of my ultrasound. Afterwards, I could wait at the clinic to find out the results of my appointment or wait to receive my email with my updated medication protocol after a Dr had reviewed the results. My appointments were never with the same nurses. It was a very efficient office and I appreciated the ease of making appointments and getting information about my course of treatment and answers to any questions I may have had.
Describe the protocols Frank Yelian used in your cycles at Life IVF Center and their degree of success.
I went through 3 mini-IVF protocol at Life IVF. Cycle 1: Clomid 50 mg CD2-CD10 Menopur 150 IU CD6, CD8, CD10 HCG 2000 units CD111 Trigger: Lupron 30 units CD 11 Egg Retrieval CD12 Retrieved 2 eggs, both fertilized but did not make it to freeze at day 3 Cycle 2: Clomid 50 mg CD2-CD8 Gonal F 150 IU CD4, CD6 Trigger: Lupron 30 units CD8 Egg Retrieval CD10 Retrieved 1 egg, fertilized and made it to blastocyte and froze Cycle 3: Clomid 50 mg CD3-CD7 Gonal F 150 IU CD4, CD6 Trigger: Lupron 30 units CD7 Egg Retrieval CD9 Retrieved 2 eggs, fertilized but did not make it to freeze at day 5
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at Life IVF Center.
The nursing staff at Life IVF was truly phenomenal. They were incredibly kind and thoughtful and respectful. I had a few minor tearful incidences and they would just stop what they were doing and help console and me and encourage me to be positive. I really appreciated their optimism and compassion. They were really wonderful to interact with.
Describe your experience with Life IVF Center.
This clinic is very busy and I haven't had any issues with getting appointments when I need them or rescheduling. It's an incredibly efficient office and I appreciate that everyone has a role/a job and they're all doing their part to ensure that the patient is getting the best care that they can get. I feel that everyone is very respectful and accommodating. I did have an issue in the beginning when I had all my medical records transferred to Life IVF and wasn't informed that I needed additional information until I showed up for my first appointment. I appreciated that they worked with me to resolve it and there was no need for me to get stressed out over it. When even the smallest issue arises during the fertility treatment process you sometimes feel like everything is falling apart. The office assured me that obtaining the correct records would not be an issue and I could still begin my first treatment cycle.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Frank Yelian at Life IVF Center.
One of the most propelling reasons that drew me to Life IVF was the cost of the IVF cycles. I was able to undergo 3 mini-IVF cycles for a base cost of ~$13,000. Every cycle incurred an additional $750 cycle management fee (x 3 cycles) The cost of my medication was minimal as I had a lot of medication still left over from previous cycles. For the price of approximately 1 IVF cycle in the bay area, I was able to have 3 mini-IVF cycles done in Irvine. The cost of flights per each cycle averaged about $1000 per cycle (x 3)
Describe Frank Yelian's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Life IVF Center.
I have one frozen blastocyst that I plan on transferring as soon as I feel physically and mentally prepared for the process. I feel fortunate to have even gotten this far after 5 IVF cycles.

How was your experience with Frank Yelian at Life IVF Center?
He knows his job, i feel in safe hands with him. He is very confident. It’s my first cycle with him, and i trust him on every step we do in this journey. He doesn’t explain you much, not risks nor expectations, but somehow he makes you believe in his success in your case.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Frank Yelian at Life IVF Center?
Ask questions, insist on getting answers. But also trust him.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Frank Yelian at Life IVF Center?
He took his time to listen to me. He is not much talkative, but i felt like he will do anything to help me.

Describe your experience with the nursing staff at Life IVF Center.
They failed to get my lab results from lab even when my lab sent it three times. I called them all day asking to call lab to find out why they don’t getting fax. They didn’t. And i couldn’t start my stims. They failed to upload my test and ultrasound results on my portal. Need to call them 100 of times to make them work. If you won’t push them, you will lose your time and money.
Describe your experience with Life IVF Center.
Arcadia location front desk ladies are helpful. The lab tech Rosa is amazing i wish she was my nurse, we is always caring and helpful with anything she can do. The nurse of Arcadia location is a disaster: she can’t answer simple questions, she can’t explain you the process. The strength of the clinic is Dr Yelian and the embryology lab. The weakness is it’s nursing team with the behavior like they don’t care for you. If you can advocate for yourself, if you can push them to work, so you will have success with the amazing Dr Yelian.

Describe the specific things that went wrong at Life IVF Center.
As an outside monitoring patient it is very stressful for me to make sure the nursing team is on the same page with me. You need to call them on every step they need to do to be sure they will do that step. I will absolutely go to Dr Yelian again.

[Dr. Yelian] usually doesn't get in until after 10:00am so if you have an 8am appointment and want to speak to the nurse, you wont get to until the doctor reviews your lab work...The doctor is very difficult to get a hold of and it is mainly the nurses that you speak with...The course of treatment that Dr. Yelian prescribed was a mistake according to him which only resulted in 3 eggs being retrieved. We only bought a 2 cycle package so this was devastating to us because he did 2 retrievals within 1 cycle because of a luteal phase he wanted to try.
The cost [at Life IVF Center] was 10 k for 2 mini ivf cycles and 2 transfers. It cost 1500 for an ERA cycle...Our patient coordinator Taylor, gave us much misleading information regarding what waivers that Dr. Yelian would give us at the beginning of the protocol and would get frustrated with any questions asked of her. It was quite frustrating to speak to someone that should know the office protocol but instead spoke out of place and not only that asked us not to mention her name to Dr. Yelian when we were asking about the waivers! This seemed very odd.
How was your experience with Frank Yelian at Life IVF Center?
Frank Yelian seemed quite distracted the first time my husband and I met with him. He only gave us about 5 minutes of his time after we waited for 3 hours. He seemed to want to rush us through that first appointment. During the first egg retrieval cycle, I felt quite anxious as a patient and had some questions about the protocol because it seemed very similar to my IUI protocol which wasn't successful for me at another clinic. I brought this up to the coordinator, she seemed to be offended by the questions and told Dr. Yelian this. Dr. Yelian asked to speak with me, did not address my concerns about the protocol but instead asked if I had depression and told me that I needed to be nicer to his staff or I could find another place to go. This ofcourse made me quite upset but we had already paid and so felt stuck. The course of treatment that Dr. Yelian prescribed was a mistake according to him which only resulted in 3 eggs being retrieved. We only bought a 2 cycle package so this was devastating to us because he did 2 retrievals within 1 cycle because of a luteal phase he wanted to try. That being said, he met with my husband and I after we were very upset with the outcome and not being listened to by him in the first place. He did rectify his mistake and gave us a free retrieval cycle to try and get blastocysts. Dr. Yelian finally started to listen to me and adjusted my medications on the free retrieval and I was able to get 8 eggs! I was very pleased and finally felt like I was being treated like an intelligent individual. He did both of my transfers and my ERA test. He was very pleasant and spoke to me personally after each transfer and upon my negative betas for both transfers. The beginning with Dr. Yelian was quite rocky but he definitely redeemed himself in our eyes.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Frank Yelian at Life IVF Center?
The one piece of advice I can offer is to not expect a hand holding experience with this doctor. He has his own agenda in mind and will pursue it until he is proven incorrect then he will be more flexible. We did grow to trust this doctor however we would not be coming back to this clinic because mini ivf and optimal ivf is not the right protocol for us. Also, do not expect to have much contact with Dr. Yelian outside of the first appointment and your transfers. He is available to be put on a waitlist for phone conversations.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Frank Yelian at Life IVF Center?
The wait times with Life IVF are horrendous. We would wait for 2 hours sometimes to just see a nurse and only got to see Dr. Yelian before we began treatments and transfers. The doctor is very difficult to get a hold of and it is mainly the nurses that you speak with. That being said, the phlebotomists, ultrasound techs, and nurses were very kind. The front desk staff got to know us by name and we felt very comfortable with them.
Describe the protocols Frank Yelian used in your cycles at Life IVF Center and their degree of success.
The protocol that was used for my first retrieval was Clomid ,Gonal F, and Menopur with a Lupron trigger. This was a mini ivf cycle which only resulted in 2 eggs. He continued with a luteal phase cycle within that same cycle because he felt that with my PCOS I would not produce many eggs if he did another mini cycle by itself on the next cycle. This luteal phase was only with Clomid and Menopur with a result of only 1 egg. No blastocysts from any of these 3 eggs. Optimal stimulation cycle with higher dosage of Clomid, Menopur, and Gonal F with Lupron trigger. They retrieved 8 eggs , 6 of which were mature. We got 2 blastocysts , 1 with a bb rating and the other with a bc rating. Both embryos failed to implant during both transfer cycles. The transfer cycles consisted of Estrace, progesterone suppositories, and progesterone in oil (every other day).
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at Life IVF Center.
The nurses were amazing, they knew everything! If I had any questions, I just needed to pick up the phone and I could always talk to one of them. They held my hand after the retrievals and spoke warmly to me during the cycles.
Describe your experience with Life IVF Center.
The clinic runs like a well oiled machine. The doctor usually doesn't get in until after 10:00am so if you have an 8am appointment and want to speak to the nurse, you wont get to until the doctor reviews your lab work. I would usually just do my labs and ultrasounds then leave because all of the directions are sent to your portal. If I had known this during my retrieval cycle then I would not have had to take so much time off of work! During the retrieval cycles, I would wait for up to 3 hours to speak to a nurse after Dr. Yelian reviewed the results. Also, the coordinators are not very honest. Our patient coordinator Taylor, gave us much misleading information regarding what waivers that Dr.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Frank Yelian at Life IVF Center.
The cost was 10 k for 2 mini ivf cycles and 2 transfers. It cost 1500 for an ERA cycle. It was 750 for any cycle (retrieval or transfer) for labs. We spent over 5 k on medications.
Describe Frank Yelian's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Life IVF Center.
The doctor prefers to do single embryo transfer, his motto is 1 embryo and 1 baby.
What specific things went wrong at Life IVF Center?
  • Failed to order appropriate test
  • Lost results
  • Provided conflicting information
  • Failed to convey critical information
Describe the specific things that went wrong at Life IVF Center.
We just felt that the information given to us by Taylor, the coordinator, about our pre-retrieval cycle labs was misleading. Also, the clinic lost some labs we had sent over from another clinic and we had to resent these results again. During my last transfer cycle which happened after the ERA cycle, my chart had not been updated to state that this was a transfer cycle so the phlebotomist was confused due to the fact that my chart said ERA because this means different labs would have to be taken.

Dr Yelian is very caring and friendly. You can tell he cares about you. Even in passing he’ll stop and put a hand on your shoulder and say hello. My first egg retrieval was done by Dr Yelian and it went smoothly. My second one was done by a different Doctor and that was not a pleasant experience. I personally think Dr Yelian is the best. Also watching him interact with other patients in passing.. he is caring to each one.

Describe the protocols Frank Yelian used in your cycles at Life IVF Center and their degree of success.
My first round I took a half a pill of clomid for 4 days and had two trigger shots. One of Lupron and one of Gonal F I believe. That resulted in 2 small eggs, neither of which were viable. My second round. I took Clomid and multiple injections for several days. I do not remember exactly what all the names & the doses were. That one resulted in 3 eggs being retrieved. Two of which were fertilized and made it to Day 3 of culturing and are now frozen and waiting for transfer.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at Life IVF Center.
The nurses are all very sweet and nice. I wrote earlier about one of the ultrasound techs not being very gentle or caring, that is the only bad experience I have had in the office.
Describe your experience with Life IVF Center.
There are a lot of people going on and out all the time. The clinic itself runs really well I think. They all know what they are doing and get it done. Expect to wait several hours and do not ever leave without speaking to the nurse beforehand!
Describe your experience with your monitoring appointments at Life IVF Center.
Monitoring appointments seemed to be very organized. I can usually get in at anytime I want in the morning. I am always called in within 10-15 min of arriving. The wait to speak to the nurse about the treatment plan usually takes quite a bit longer, which isn’t ideal but with the amount of patients it is understandable.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Frank Yelian at Life IVF Center.
Initial phone consultation: $150 2 egg retrieval package: around $10,000 Medications range a lot Clomid for first cycle:$4.00 Lupron I had to buy in San Francisco $800 Last egg retrieval round: over $1,000 for medication Monitoring fee for each separate round: $750

Dr Yelian was very kind. He truly cares for all of his patients. The day I got my negative beta I met with him and we talked about what happened and what we could do the next time around. For my iui we used a combination of clomid, menopur and progesterone suppositories. I did fairly well but given the iui rates it did not succeed. For IVF egg retrieval I used clomid, menopur, gonal f and lupron for a trigger shot - we used minimal amounts. With my PCOS I did not react as atinicpated we only were able to get 3 egg and only 1 made it to blastocyst/embryo stage. For transfer I used a combination of estrogen, progesterone, and tamoxifen. Unfortunately the embryo did not take.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at Life IVF Center.
The nursing staff was amazing! Very friendly and caring. I was very nervous leading up to the egg retrieval and every time they were comforting and explained everything. I even asked their opinions on oral sedation versus iv Sedation and they explained the procedure. The day of transfer I saw one of the nurses I typically see and she Said to me “I was so excited when wrote your bracket last night! good luck!” She was also the one to give me the news that my transfer didn’t take but was very kind about it and talked to me about it.

for our iui we paid everything entirely out of pocket. I think overall we paid about 4500. Our last round of ivf our insurance covered it so we only had to pay for the donor sperm and medications.

Dr. Yelian is personable and he is optimistic by nature and truly wants you to succeed....Dr. Yelian is the expert in treating sever DOR ladies (high FSH, low AMH). He is creative in his treatment plans and he seldom gives up (cancels cycle) on his patients. He is optimistic by nature and truly believes that every egg can be the golden one and will go for every egg he can get, which is very important in the case of DOR ladies. He creates individualize treatment plans base on your ultrasound result
The clinic [Life IVF has a great lab, which is important in the success of IVF outcome...The clinic also offers low price packages, which makes it possible for severe DOR ladies to find success, as most will need a few IVF cycles to get enough embryos to transfer. It's a busy clinic and you don't get your own nurse. The service you get corresponds to the price you pay...Most of the nurses are very nice and organized but sometimes they can be frustrating to work with.

Describe the protocols Frank Yelian used in your cycles at Life IVF Center and their degree of success.
Dr. Yelian is one of the few Drs. who knows how to treat sever DOR ladies. A lot of the patients went to Dr. Yelain as last resort as most Drs do not know how to treat ladies with high FSH and would have told them donor egg is the only hope. Dr. Yelian would test your baseline FSH and E2 and will prescribe stimulation if your FSH is lower than 15. If your FSH is high, he may give you estrace or bcp to lower the FSH so to allow follicle(s) to grow. I was able to successfully bank embryos under his protocols.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at Life IVF Center.
Most of the nurses are very nice and organized but sometimes they can be frustrating to work with.
Describe your experience with Life IVF Center.
The clinic has a great lab, which is important in the success of IVF outcome. Dr. Yelain is talented at treating tough case patients and does not give up on his patients easily. The clinic also offers low price packages, which makes it possible for severe DOR ladies to find success, as most will need a few IVF cycles to get enough embryos to transfer. It's a busy clinic and you don't get your own nurse. The service you get corresponds to the price you pay.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Frank Yelian at Life IVF Center.
Life clinic offers low costs package. A three cycle mini IVF package is around $15K and a three cycle natural IVF package is around $12K.
Describe Frank Yelian's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Life IVF Center.
Dr. Yelain will only transfer up to two embryos at a time. His motto is to help his patient has one healthy baby at a time so he tries his best to avoid high risk pregnancies.

Dr Yelian is a very nice man, but you never receive followup after the retrieval or an assessment of how the cycle went. There is not much of a feedback loop. For the first three cycles, he kept us on natural cycle. After asking about minimal stimulation, he did move us to Clomid cycles and one gonadotropin cycle, but other than that did not really reassess and change treatment based on the previous cycle. Following leaving Life, two other REs were of the opinion that Clomid, after your 40s, has an adverse effect that sometimes inhibits conceiving and can temporarily cause menopausal symptoms for 3 months, by changing or missing cycles.
Life [IVF Center] is a very crowded clinic due to the low cost. The only way they can manage this is to have standardized procedures. You never see the doctor, and communicate via email with the nurses.... This is an IVF clinic that markets to diminished ovarian reserve patients, specializing in natural or minimal stimulation. On the very first cycle with my new doctor, we used gonadotropins instead and I conceived.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Frank Yelian at Life IVF Center?
To talk to a second and a third opinion, and to consider ovulation induction and/or IUI with gonadotropins instead of IVF.

three natural cycle IVFs, two with clomid, and one with gonal F.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at Life IVF Center.
The nurses are very organized and due to the sheer number of patients, rely on procedures. There are set times that lab tests and ultrasounds need to be submitted to the doctors when remote monitoring, and a set time that you can expect them to email you regarding the next days' order.

Describe your experience with your monitoring appointments at Life IVF Center.
Life uses remote monitoring which is very convenient, and there are many long distance patients that monitor close to their home and have lab tests and ultrasounds emailed to the clinic. You pay a monitoring fee of $600 per cycle.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Frank Yelian at Life IVF Center.
$12000 for three minimal stimulation cycles or 11000 for three natural cycle.

None transferred.

What I liked most about Dr. Yelian was his approach not to do conventional IVF for someone over 40. He does mini IVF and natural IVF. We did natural IVF, where it just follows my natural cycle. We were going to try minimal stim but my cycles became too irregular. To regulate them, I went on birth control, but then that made my FSH through the roof, and he suggested I take a break...He's wonderful, and he has a very busy practice. He's limited on time, but I felt taken care of throughout. He's very kind and compassionate, and has had great success. He was realistic about my chances, while remaining encouraging. He's very knowledgeable and I would recommend him.
Because it's a busy clinic, don't expect serenity or a "spa-like" experience I've hear about other places. But it's quality care at an affordable price. Right now, I'm looking at donor eggs, and the expense is unbelievable! I wish I could work with Yelian with their donors, but I can't choose that path because it's anonymous...the only reason I can no longer work with him is that their egg donor program is anonymous, and I don't think that's a wise move on my part. I want the donor to be open to being contacted down the road

Avoid Dr. Lee C. Kao, and request you never work with him.

Dr. Yelian is a warm, sweet man. I've moved onto needing egg donation, and the only reason I can no longer work with him is that their egg donor program is anonymous, and I don't think that's a wise move on my part. I want the donor to be open to being contacted down the road. Dr. Lee C. Kao is AWFUL! No bedside manner and rude, and he did my consultation. After that experience, I asked Dr. Yelian to make sure I never work with him again.

The lab is great according to the women who have worked with Yelian (and who are pregnant/have children with his help). The challenge for me is that I live in SF and he's in Orange County, so that was inconvenient. Dr. Yelian is very excited about the science of IVF and ready to explain every detail. It really seems to be a passion. He's confident, but also practical. I wanted facts, I wanted to know what could be done, how and when. He could give all the answers and answers for what ifs.... I did three mini-IVF cycles in a row, but had started four cycles.... With the exception of one, all my cycles were based solely on my natural cycle and did not include taking injections or birth control to get on a schedule convenient to the clinic.
Almost all of the nursing staff and staff [at Live IVF] in general is exceptionally nice, kind and thorough.... The clinic is very busy and I'm not able to see the doctors often.... Life IVF's patients are almost all "hard" cases for other clinics. If you are of advanced age, have DOR and/or high FSH, they are ideal. It's what they are dealing with all day, everyday-- you won't be a problem patient.... My three mini cycle package was a similar price to one full cycle at another local clinic.
How was your experience with Frank Yelian at Life IVF Center?
Dr. Yelian is very excited about the science of IVF and ready to explain every detail. It really seems to be a passion. He's confident, but also practical. I wanted facts, I wanted to know what could be done, how and when. He could give all the answers and answers for what ifs. I like to read studies on Fertstert and I wanted someone who could discuss them with me. His scholarly background makes him a good fit for anyone approaching this as science and research. He also framed the answers in a positive way and recognized the importance of this. Another doctor had said you only have a 5% chance of a live birth as a dismissal of trying. Dr. Yelian estimated a similar percent as a positive -- you still have a 5% chance of a live birth. It's subtle, but important. I liken it to finding out you are diagnosed with a terrible disease-- I want the doctor that says, I can help you fight this, it's hard but we have these options, you have a 5% chance. I don't want the doctor that says you only have a 5% chance of survival, why bother? Dr. Yelian combines both science and compassion. I had hoped to have more appointments where I saw him. At this clinic, you will only see the doctor for your consultation, for your first appointment with the clinic, for retrievals and transfers. Theoretically, you can make additional appointments for a fee, but this is downplayed when you actually try to do it.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Frank Yelian at Life IVF Center?
You should be prepared to keep track of everything and ask a lot of questions. You won't get many opportunities to talk to the doctor, so you will want to be fully prepared for every chance you get.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Frank Yelian at Life IVF Center?
The clinic is very busy and I'm not able to see the doctors often, but when I have talked to them they seem to understand how this is important and emotional. I met with two previous doctors at other clinics who didn't seem to understand that not being able to have a child is upsetting. I don't feel like with Dr. Yelian that his success rates are more important than me.
Describe the protocols Frank Yelian used in your cycles at Life IVF Center and their degree of success.
I did three mini-IVF cycles in a row, but had started four cycles. I then have started two FET, only one of which progressed to a transfer, which was negative. My FSH is high, my AMH is low and I am old. I was 39 when I started, 40 now. The theory on mini-IVF is that I was not going to produce many eggs regardless of how much medication I used because my FSH was already high, further stimulation wasn't going to do much. However, by doing three cycles each with less eggs collected, I could end up with a similar number of eggs to a standard cycle. My first attempt at a cycle was cancelled the first week as I already had a lead follicle. The thought was, this could be normal for me or it could be an off cycle. If we wait a month and it is the same, we're essentially in the same place, but maybe by waiting a month it would be better. Fortunately, it was a little better the next month. I was sad, but appreciated the practical approach. My first cycle to progress used clomid daily, Menopur every other day and a trigger with Lupron. I did not prime before. I had two eggs from six follicles, which was disappointing that day, but both made it to 5 day and were frozen. At the end of the cycle, I realized two from two is amazing. My second cycle used clomid daily and Follistim every other day with a double trigger. Because the first cycle had resulted in only two, the second was a change just to see if it worked better. I was to take 10 days of BCP, but started my period after 7 days, even on the BCP. I had four eggs from five follicles, but only two made it through the first day. Only one made it to 5 day and freeze. I then skipped one month because my cycle put my retrieval right in the middle of their week closed for the holidays. My third cycle was clomid daily, Gonal F every other day. I did not prime before. I triggered with just the Lupron. I had three eggs, two of which survived the first day and made it to day 5 to freeze. My first FET cycle I used estradiol, lots of it, then threw in tamoxifen for 10 days. There was not priming before, it followed my natural cycle. My lining wouldn't get above 7.6 at cd20 and the doctor decided to transfer because it seemed to be as good as it would get. My pregnancy test was negative, not even a chemical. My second FET cycle I used lots of estradiol, tamoxifen for 9 days and had an endometrial biopsy. I had more follicles growing, all of similar size than I had on any of my retrieval cycles, I regret not being able to switch it to a retrieval. My lining was 7.8 at cd14, and we tried going through the weekend to see if it would thicken. At some point over the weekend I ovulated and the cycle was cancelled. The plan is my next FET cycle would follow the protocol of the second, but transfer at cd14 and not risk going longer.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at Life IVF Center.
Almost all of the nursing staff and staff in general is exceptionally nice, kind and thorough. I think with any workplace there will be a couple that are less pleasant or that you encounter on an off day. I had been warned by another patient that the staff wouldn't be friendly, but I found everyone friendly and warm, just also efficient. You won't be seeing the same people each time and they see a lot of patients, so while I felt I was familiar to everyone after my second cycle, I didn't expect them or need them to know much in the way of details about me. When some did I was pleasantly surprised. Of all my visits, and I have been there a lot, I've only had three instances of a not completely pleasant interaction -- and none of them were problems that would affect the results of the cycle.
Describe your experience with Life IVF Center.
Life IVF's patients are almost all "hard" cases for other clinics. If you are of advanced age, have DOR and/or high FSH, they are ideal. It's what they are dealing with all day, everyday-- you won't be a problem patient. I sort of feel like no matter how awful my numbers are, I don't scare them. It makes treatment more promising and waiting in the waiting room more pleasant... at 40 I'm never the oldest there. Considering the patients, I think their success rates are amazing. The clinic's emphasis is on the least amount of drugs/procedures/extras to make IVF as minimally invasive and as easy time management-wise as possible. If you are uncomfortable with the sheer amount of medication involved in a cycle elsewhere, Life would be ideal. They just don't do the everything and the kitchen sink style cycle. Retrievals can be done without anesthesia. I had read other patients posting that they did retrieval completely drug free, so I tried my first cycle and I highly recommend Norco and Valium. It wasn't the most awful experience of my life, but some pain killers made it so much more manageable the second time. Anesthesia is an option if you'd prefer. With the exception of one, all my cycles were based solely on my natural cycle and did not include taking injections or birth control to get on a schedule convenient to the clinic. It was important to me to know that I would not be cancelled if I had even a little chance. Other clinics cancel if you don't have lots of follicles, Life advocates "it only takes one". If you only have one or two and want to proceed, they will and if you feel a moment of panic and consider canceling, they will reassure you without pressuring you, either. Almost all information will come through emails with great brevity. I almost always would like more information and sooner... but the information that you need always arrives in time (just not as immediately as my anxiousness would occasionally like). I don't think this clinic would be a good option if you want to feel you are being guided and hand held. In general, I feel that the pain involved in all aspects of a cycle is slightly underestimated by the nurses and doctors. I am tough, but, goodness. Last cycle I learned that an endometrial biopsy is much more painful than a pap smear (which it was presented as being just like). If I started over with them again, I'd very much like to feel confident asking for painkillers and valium before procedures. Once I said I was interested in them, they are happy to advise and proscribe without making you feel weak.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Frank Yelian at Life IVF Center.
I'm uncomfortable giving numbers, we're asked not to. My three mini cycle package was a similar price to one full cycle at another local clinic. Monitoring is in addition to the package price, as are medications. At this point, three retreival cycles and two transfer cycles, with medications and monitoring I am over 20,000 and under 30,000. I did not use PGS.
Describe Frank Yelian's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Life IVF Center.
Life IVF is very strongly pro eSET. Because I am older, I felt transferring at least two would be reasonable and they agreed to it while cautioning that it is not their recommendation. (I ended up doing eSET)
What specific things went wrong at Life IVF Center?

Describe the specific things that went wrong at Life IVF Center.
My second cycle, the day before my retrieval I received a call informing me they had followed my directions and cancelled my retrieval. It was a message left on my cell phone, I was at work, working retail (no access to cell phone during work) and did not receive the message until late afternoon. I did not hold myself together well and was near hysterical (okay, hysterical). I had a hard time getting through to the desk which made it more upsetting. In the end, it was an error of confusing two patients, sort of. Another woman had called in and left a message that she would like to cancel her cycle, but we must have enough overlapping identifying characteristics (first name? date of birth? I don't know) that I was called instead. That was upsetting, but understandable. I was more upset about it in that they didn't try my work number or my partner's number both also listed on my records. I understand that the confusion could happen, but why not try to resolve it, rather than leaving a sad scary message. I was able to keep my retrieval appointment and everything went okay. The clinic does not call in your prescriptions. They give you a written prescription or you purchase there. My pharmacy wanted to verify before filling my prescription, which was chaos. I suggest purchasing through the clinic. It's easier and it seemed to be reasonably priced.

Treatment started [with Dr. Frank Yelian] trying to use wife's eggs, but quickly shifted to the recommendation that we purchase eggs from a donor. Eggs were frozen and all failed to developed after fertilization rather quickly. We were quite surprised as we were sold on the idea that we would get embryos... The doctor was quite busy. Wife and I consulted with him a couple of times in the beginning and then had to work with various assistants unless paying for a follow-up consultation with him, regardless of how long that took.
The big problem [with Life IVF] was with the frozen eggs, which failed to develop after fertilization. We asked via e-mail for a written report of the embryologist. Our request was ignored. He then wanted to sell us more eggs, but we refused because we could not trust their services or products. They do not take responsibility for your treatment after getting your money.

Buyer beware. We would not recommend using him.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Frank Yelian at Life IVF Center?
Live IVF runs a very busy, factory-like operation, when we were under its care. One had to pay extra $ to "consult" with Dr. Yelian. The nurses and medical assistants were always quite busy. At the front desk one had to try hard to get their attention, in competition with phone calls and other anxious customers.

Strength is a nice, professional-looking office. In the beginning, the office staff was nice. After you start the treatment, the staff tends to avoid you or, if that is not possible, the deal with you quickly and move on to the next customer.

About $17,000, which included $12,000 for just three frozen eggs. The rest of the money was for blood tests, various examinations, and doctor consultation fees.

Success w/ Doc Too early to know
Dr Yelian specializes in natural cycle and minimal stimulation IVF and most of his clients have DOR, POF, high FSH, and/or are in their 40s or beyond. He mostly uses estrogen and birth control pills to treat his patients and the goal is to produce "one good egg" (his mantra) each cycle.
I was initially a bit overwhelmed by the high volume of patients[at Life IVF] that obviously go through the clinic (the waiting room can seem a bit like an airline terminal on busy days!) but it has turned out to benefit me because they have an in-house blood lab because of their high volume...There are a lot of nurses and I came in a lot and always seemed to see a different one.
How was your experience with Frank Yelian at Life IVF Center?
Dr. Yelian is super busy, but it's because of his success and because he is so well known for being the best doctor to go see if you have high FSH. People travel from all over the world to see him. I am caucasian and was almost always the only non-asian in the waiting room as many of his patients are chinese. There are usually many patients with their suitcases as well. Despite the high throughput I found the office to be well run and have had a very positive experience there. Because he sees so many patients you have to pay $75 to see him after your initial consultation (except for when you have transfers and retrievals) but having him call you is free and he always called when I asked and did not make me feel rushed. He is very personable and honest and he is really compelling and enthusiastic in his monthly seminars for prospective patients. I was really impressed at the seminar, and my experience with him after many months of treatment with him has lived up to that.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Frank Yelian at Life IVF Center?
Go see his seminar, you won't be disappointed! If you have DOR or high FSH, no other doctor can compare.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Frank Yelian at Life IVF Center?
Dr Yelian treats thousands of women each year so it's inevitable that he cannot remember each one individually. That said, I have a bit of an unusual case so he does remember me but no matter what I think he treats his patients well and is a kind and caring doctor who really wants to help people get pregnant. He is super busy because of his success with DOR/POF/high FSH patients but he always took the time to call me when I requested it and if a cycle was cancelled and always asked if I had any questions about my treatment. I don't think he turns anyone away for treatment but I think it's because he wants to give everyone their best chance, not because he wants the money.
Describe the protocols Frank Yelian used in your cycles at Life IVF Center and their degree of success.

He mostly uses estrogen and birth control pills to treat his patients and the goal is to produce "one good egg" (his mantra) each cycle. So your cycle won't be cancelled if you only have one follicle. :) My FSH was 136 and Dr Yelian tried several different protocols of natural cycle IVF on me, and despite being in premature menopause and age 41 I actually grew follicles after a few tries and he retrieved a mature egg which successfully fertilized. Those of you with POF (premature ovarian failure) will recognize how amazing this is. The cycle that worked, I was just on birth control pills, that's it! After about 34 days on the pill my FSH was suppressed enough that my follicles grew. I had my transfer last week and even if I don't get a positive pregnancy test, I am still grateful for Dr Yelian's help in getting this far, and we can always try again. :)
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at Life IVF Center.
The nurses work in team mode (you are not assigned one point of contact) which can lead to disjointed communication when you speak with a different nurse each time you call or go into the office. It all seemed to work out fine in the end, though. There are a lot of nurses and I came in a lot and always seemed to see a different one. :) I did get to know the ultrasound techs and blood drawing technicians as there were only a few of those. Overall, my experience was fine and they were always polite and professional.
Describe your experience with Life IVF Center.
I was initially a bit overwhelmed by the high volume of patients that obviously go through the clinic (the waiting room can seem a bit like an airline terminal on busy days!) but it has turned out to benefit me because they have an in-house blood lab because of their high volume so they do monitoring from 7am (I think, I never went that early!) to 2pm, even on Saturdays. For me, afternoons worked best so I would go in at 1:45pm for monitoring and they would have the results one hour later (it's one hour processing no matter what time you go). I think most other clinics have only morning monitoring times and very limited hours on Saturdays. It's a busy place but it really does run smoothly, I have been impressed!
Describe the costs associated with your care under Frank Yelian at Life IVF Center.
I paid about $5,000 for one natural cycle IVF cycle. It would have been $12,000 for three cycles but we decided to just pay for one.
What specific things went wrong at Life IVF Center?
  • Failed to call in prescriptions to pharmacy
Describe the specific things that went wrong at Life IVF Center.
One time they faxed in my prescription but the pharmacy didn't get it, I called and the nurses said they had been having trouble with their fax machine and they re-faxed it. It turned out fine but I do wish someone had double-checked to make sure it went through in the first place! :)

Dr Yelian showed and explained every step before and during each step of transfer. Dr Yelian was always open for questions or concerns and had prompt responses. I truly appreciate how he made my husband and I feel like the only patients and always up to date on where we were in our cycle without us having to back track to catch him up. We felt special and important and that made our cycle easy and stress free.
I love that I didn't have to take birth control before starting my cycle, went right into stimming and I was on my lowest dosages of clomid 50mg and Gonal F lowest dosages and every other day, I'm not going to lie I didn't think it would work since I was on the max of both when doing iui's at my primary doctors office. But on my first ultrasound after starting swimming it was actually working and normally I stimmed for about 14 days or more I only stimmed for 9 days before triggering for retrieval. I produced 4 follicles and I was a rare and hard patient to retrieve because my ovary is far up and back, my retrieval was done abdominally and 3 out of the 4 follicles had eggs, 2 eggs were mature and fertilized with icsi, they both made it to 5 day blasts and were frozen. Following cycle was on 1 estrace (estrogen pill) daily and progesterone oil injections nightly and to my surprise my transfer was sooner than they expected and it went smoothly.
How was your experience with Frank Yelian at Life IVF Center?
From the 1st phone consult I knew Dr Yelian was the one for us, despite ivf being our on,y option to conceive after being told by our primary physician that my husband and I would never conceive with his sperm or my eggs, it was like a breath of fresh air when Dr Yelian assured us that we would be prefect candidates for mini ivf. He explained thoroughly how mini ivf works and the benefits also why we should do icsi and assisted hatching and hope was all we needed. Dr Yelian conducted my transfer and it was fast, detailed and painless, also I took no medicine for transfer.... Dr Yelian showed and explained every step before and during each step of transfer. What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Frank Yelian at Life IVF Center?
Listen and follow his instructions even tho you may feel different. Dr Yelian really knows what he is talking about and doing and there is a reason for whatever instructions you are given by him. I thought for sure I would never produce eggs on my lowest dosages of fertility medicine but I produced more than with my highest dosages from my primary doctors.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Frank Yelian at Life IVF Center?
Each staff member from check in to the doctors were all compassionate and knowledgeable and tended to all my needs

The nursing staff was my extended family, you see them so much and they communicate with you daily regarding protocol and checking up on you. They were encouraging, comforting, knowledgeable, compassionate, and eased your stress with humor and gave amazing tips to survive ivf.

I feel as if each staff member was hand picked and each are compassionate, comforting, informative, and patient.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Frank Yelian at Life IVF Center.
The mini ivf cycle I chose was affordable, medicine was the lowest around to purchase, monitoring cycles after pregnancy were very affordable as well

He [Dr Frank Yelian] does not seem willing to deviate too far from the box with regard to treatment protocols. It seems like every patient is doing pretty much the same protocol but with tweaking to the dosage of medications. He did humor me once by letting me try a different priming method, which was my best responsive cycle. I also had to push to get additional bloodwork and testing done to rule out other issues that could have had an impact on my success. [LIFE IVF center's] Strengths: Accepts all patients regardless of how dire their situations and cases are. Financial portion was well explained at the consult... How was your experience with Frank Yelian at Life IVF Center?
Dr. Yelian seemed positive and gave me confidence in using my own eggs. But at the same time, I felt there was an air of arrogance and cockiness to him that he was sure he could get me pregnant. He does not seem willing to deviate too far from the box with regard to treatment protocols. It seems like every patient is doing pretty much the same protocol but with tweaking to the dosage of medications. He did humor me once by letting me try a different priming method, which was my best responsive cycle. I also had to push to get additional bloodwork and testing done to rule out other issues that could have had an impact on my success. I learned after starting cycles with him that he would not allow medications when FSH levels were too high. There was one cycle when I started stims and at a subsequent monitoring appointment he had me drop most of my medications because my FSH was higher than he liked. I know of other doctors that would continue the stims, and with this cycle I felt like had I continued stims I would have gotten more mature eggs. Overall, Dr. Yelian seems like a decent doctor if you are looking for a more natural or less medicated form of IVF. If you are someone with Diminished Ovarian Reserve, I would stay away because you just are not getting the number of eggs you should be getting by doing mini IVF.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Frank Yelian at Life IVF Center?
Be your own advocate, challenge his treatment plans if something doesnt feel right or if you have questions or concerns.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Frank Yelian at Life IVF Center?
At our initial consult, Dr. Yelian gave impression that treatment was tailored to each individual patient (i.e. no one size fits all approach would be used). However I felt like I was given the one size fits all by having birth control and estrogen priming prescribed, which only suppressed my response and I felt like I wasted a good amount of the cycles in my package with this. This clinic is very busy, they have what I think is too many patients for what they can handle. On retrieval and transfer days, I felt like I was rushed into the procedure room to get my procedure done, then I was left in a recliner to rest for a few minutes before I was told I could leave. They obviously had too many patients to accommodate in their clinic. With my negative pregnancy tests, another doctor (Dr. Kao) called and he was sympathetic yet I felt that Dr. Yelian should have had the decency to close out my case at his clinic. I'm not sure if its the norm to have a final "what happened?" appointment after all treatment unsuccessfully concluded, but I was never offered that or felt that this kind of dialog would be welcome at Life IVF.
Describe the protocols Frank Yelian used in your cycles at Life IVF Center and their degree of success.
If FSH is higher than 15-20, he will not let you use any stims, specifically Gonal-F (FSH). Sometimes he will allow Clomid only. He seems to use the same standard protocol with everyone: BCP or estrogen priming prior to cycle. Begin Clomid on day 3 every day until right before retrieval (dosage ranges from 25-50 mg). Begin Gonal-F on day 5, every other day for 4 dosages. Each dosage was 150 IU. If FSH levels are too high on day 3, no stims at all. If FSH levels are borderline, he will start you out on Clomid only, 25 mg (half a tablet).
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at Life IVF Center.
Nursing staff is primarily Chinese speaking, which is targeted to Life IVFs target patient base. I felt like most of the Chinese nurses did not communicate well with me. Most nurses were nice, but I got the feeling they did not care about the patients (my opinion is they are overrun with patients and this is why they seem this way). I looked to the nurses to help me with insurance pre-authorization, handling my prescriptions, and for any guidance with medication usage. Only one nurse was actually helpful to show me how to use medications and to give me more information so I could make a choice on medications for my transfer. Separate issue, but I felt that the doctor shouldve made the choice on the type of progesterone I should use, not give me the choice. Overall, some nurses were incompetent (seemed to just play around while at work) while some went the extra mile for me.
Describe your experience with Life IVF Center.
Strengths: Accepts all patients regardless of how dire their situations and cases are. Financial portion was well explained at the consult, with all the treatment costs and packages explained in great detail. It was very clear how much things would cost at this clinic. Dr. Yelian seems to show compassion and has a good bedside manner. Weaknesses: This place is way too busy and you feel like a number. The care didnt seem as individualized as it was portrayed to us at the consult. Doctors are not willing to try new or experimental techniques. Everything is pretty standard and they seem to use the "one size fits all" approach to treatment. Retrieval and transfer procedures seemed rushed especially when the "rest area beds" were full with patients. Patients walk from recliner "bed" to the procedure room for retrievals and transfers, have the procedure done with no anesthesia, and then need to walk back to their "bed". I felt like I was not given enough bedrest after procedures, especially the transfer procedures. You never see a doctor during monitoring. Emails are sent to you after each monitoring appointment with continued instructions for treatment plan. I was lucky to see Dr. Yelian on the day of my retrievals and transfers, but I didnt always see him. Sometimes the other doctors would be there in his absence.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Frank Yelian at Life IVF Center.
We were offered a Risk Share, Money Back plan of 5 retrievals, 5 transfers for $25,000. This included all monitoring ultrasounds and labs, and the first pregnancy test. Medications were not included.

Describe the specific things that went wrong at Life IVF Center.
My first retrieval I was called around day 7-9 to say my hormone levels were indicating I would ovulate soon and I needed to get back in the clinic to have my retrieval done ASAP. I told the nurse that I was at work, in a class that I had to attend for the next 2 hours and I wouldnt be able to return until later in the afternoon. My husband also had the same time restrictions. They called me back 30 minutes later to say, oh nevermind, just make a monitoring appointment for 2 days later. I was panicked when the first call came in, and then was utterly confused with the second call. Looking at my hormone levels, it made no sense for the doctor to go to retreival that cycle. In the end, they got no eggs even though they asipirated 3 follicles. I was not given any confidence in this clinic after this cycle, and it was hard ever even getting the confidence back for my remaining cycles. We were stuck there for 5 cycles since we opted to do a risk share (money back) plan and had signed a contract.

Good if you want natural cycles or are older...I think he [Dr. Yelian] is good at explaining.... He doesn' t try an advanced techniques or new ideas on the cutting edge. Doesn't work with immunological concerns. He will treat older patients and patients with diminshed reserve but he doesn't give an accurate impression of your chances nor does he fully help in terms of getting where you want to go.
the office [Life IVF] was run like factory and the financial person was not very understanding ...factory like you need to understand all their processes and protocols so you can maximize your time there and understand how you can get through it quicker. I am not sure if the lab was any good and if they were good at reading ultrasounds and tracking your case...A lot of different nurses more assembly line
How was your experience with Frank Yelian at Life IVF Center?
Good if you want natural cycles or are older. Less expensive. Only does one thing and maybe not so flexible. I think he is good at explaining however he acts as if there is a good chance. Also, I am not sure if the lab is that good. He doesn' t try an advanced techniques or new ideas on the cutting edge. Doesn't work with immunological concerns. He will treat older patients and patients with diminshed reserve but he doesn't give an accurate impression of your chances nor does he fully help in terms of getting where you want to go. He is more of a one pony show or whatever the expression is.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Frank Yelian at Life IVF Center?
Don't expect full service. Guide your own treatment. Only work with him if his one standard protocol is what would work for you in your condition. Be sure to ask for him to come in to do your ultrasounds. Try to get him to level with you fairly on chances. Research the lab to determine if it is up to paar.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Frank Yelian at Life IVF Center?
He was very hopeful and like to tell a lot of success stories. ON the other hand the office was run like factory and the financial person was not very understanding although the Dr was more sympathetic.
Describe the protocols Frank Yelian used in your cycles at Life IVF Center and their degree of success.
He does natural cycles and mini cycles for people who do not respond well to FSH and other fertility drugs. or who are older and would do equally as well with minimum stimulation. He does use clomid regularly however. He also triggers using lupron not just HCh or will double trigger which is good for women who are older and do not respond well to the hormone because their levels are so high already.

Success w/ Doc Too early to know
Dr. Yelian is very concise. He does not speak much during consultation, but when he does, you can tell that he knows what he is doing. He is open to all questions and answers in a way that you can understand. He is also willing to call you just to answer those random questions that may pop-up during your cycle...They do embryo transfer on a case by case basis. They primarily lean towards eSET.
The Irvine [Life IVF Center] location is more established than their new Arcadia location, but you will get seen quicker at the Arcadia location. They only do procedures at the Irvine location, but you can do your blood work, med pick-up, and monitoring at their Arcadia location. Both locations are clean and well organized...PGT-A testing is $1000 per embryo. I wish they had a group pay amount.
