Attention to Detail

Attention to detail is on a 1 - 10 scale, and is scored based on the rate, and severity, of errors committed by the clinic according to the patients.

For example, a severe error might be failing to inform a patient of critical information, while a small error might be failing to call a patient with results.

CDC Success Rates

This is the most recent data from the CDC. The CDC cautions that it should not be used to compare doctors and clinics. This data represents the outcomes of IVF cycles when using a person's own eggs.

For more information please see our FAQs.

Where you see a “?” on the chart, a clinic has done fewer than 20 cycles in this category and age range, so the CDC says showing percentages from this small data set would be misleading and unreliable.

[Dr. Doherty was] Very kind and compassionate, but unwilling to consider changes to my protocol based on my own research and self-advocacy, in favor of a prepackaged protocol...didn’t feel like my voice was heard or experiences appreciated. I hoped to change protocols from one retrieval to another, and no significant change was made. I questioned my progesterone and that was brushed off, only to end up having to urgently increase progesterone because it was low
I liked the check in procedure[at Methodist for Women] , and appreciated the fresh look the clinic had. I liked that I saw a doctor every visit, and that they were very clear about when I was supposed to do things! I will go back to them, because my insurance only covers their services. I wish they would be more willing to try new things, and read modern research in driving their practice...I have spent around $15,000 out of pocket, even with insurance.
How was your experience with Carolyn Maud Doherty at Methodist for Women?
I loved all of the doctors there, but didn’t feel like my voice was heard or experiences appreciated. I hoped to change protocols from one retrieval to another, and no significant change was made. I questioned my progesterone and that was brushed off, only to end up having to urgently increase progesterone because it was low.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Carolyn Maud Doherty at Methodist for Women?
Be willing to push really really hard to get what you want out of treatment.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Carolyn Maud Doherty at Methodist for Women?
Very kind and compassionate, but unwilling to consider changes to my protocol based on my own research and self-advocacy, in favor of a prepackaged protocol
Describe the protocols Carolyn Maud Doherty used in your cycles at Methodist for Women and their degree of success.
ER 1 was only Gonal F and cetrotide, following 1 month of BCP. ER 2 was menopur, gonal f and cetrotide with no BCP. Both yielded identical results.
Describe your experience with your nurse at Methodist for Women. (Assigned nurse: Monica or Julie)
Monica was amazing. I appreciate her so much. Julie was horrible. When we had our loss, she told me with zero compassion, on Mother’s Day, of all days. She made me cry on 2 occasions! I’m going to be a nurse, and I think about how much I want to be different than her, often. All of my nurse ratings are in the middle- too points for Monica, 0 points for Julie.

It was fine! I like the open hours, honestly.

Describe Carolyn Maud Doherty's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Methodist for Women.
We didn’t PGS test, so Dr. Delaney was open to transferring 2 each time. If we had PGS tested, she would have preferred eSET.

Describe the specific things that went wrong at Methodist for Women.
I’ve mentioned before that I had concerns about the length of time I am on progesterone. The clinic has been pretty unwilling to try new things, and once, responded to my request with “well we have been doing this a long time.”

Success w/ Doc Too early to know
She [Dr. Carolyn Maud Doherty] took the time to talk to us. When we found out our make factor had gotten worse she said she didn’t want us to waste money on iui and to wait and recheck count later on. Which made me feel good that she was t just in it for the money...She gave results but didn’t explain much...we’re hoping to avoid ivf due to cost. So I really appreciate her giving me blunt answers on not doing iui...or move on to ivf it is a must...We are currently trying to bring up sperm count. But plan to do injectable stims for iui with trigger.
We are currently trying to bring up sperm count. But plan to do injectable stims for iui with trigger [with Methodist For Women]...They [nurses] were great at getting everyone who lined up in the morning checked in and out in a very efficient time. They were great at getting blood from the awful veins and always seemed to have a smile on their face...I had to call to get SA results which isn’t a big deal. I just need to be in the know...The initial consult is $400 and they said my insurance would cover most of it but it was denied. My insurance did cover some of the blood work and the saline ultrasound. But I have no infertility coverage. They have covered the SA we have had and moving forward it will be all out of pocket. Iui is $800. Plus meds and monitoring.
How was your experience with Carolyn Maud Doherty at Methodist for Women?
She gave results but didn’t explain much. But she knows I will read in to what they mean. The nurses and staff were very kind and during my appointments things moved quickly. We still haven’t started much treatment but that’s because we’re hoping to avoid ivf due to cost. So I really appreciate her giving me blunt answers on not doing iui until we get his count issue resolved or move on to ivf it is a must. They open very early which makes it easy to be seen and still get in to work on time
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Carolyn Maud Doherty at Methodist for Women?
Have your questions written down. Bring a copy of your file. My other dr didn’t have it over in time and I printed everything I could from my file which was good because she had nothing.

They open early which makes it so easy for me to go in before work. But they do close early which makes it hard for ya working husband to go in and do things. They run open clinic until 9am. It’s first come first serve. After that it’s other appointments that are set u til 3pm. After that they close. Usually you can get in for an appointment time without much wait.

If you are not ready to accept what she [Dr. Doherty] has to tell you based on findings bluntly then she is not the doctor for you necessarily but in my mind if your paying that much you want to the point, up front, and no beating around the bush...I only used injectables for all treatments, new lab work completed each year, regular ultrasounds and labs during treatment courses. After positive test regular ultrasounds and labs to monitor how pregnancy was progressing until reached point to transfer can to my OB of choice. I responded well to trwatments só not much change to planned course other than mild dosage changes to increase production of eggs

How was your experience with Carolyn Maud Doherty at Methodist for Women?
Always up front with me, when I asked a question I always knew she was telling me as it was and never sugar coating or instilling false hope. At my toughest times still willing to hear me no matter how unreasonable but open to my requests to change treatment paths if possible for me. For example after my failed IVF round and we decided to pursue route of donor, had one in medicated transfer and I was at an all time low in our journey. All I had to do was ask if possible/ good idea to use meds to increase odds. Had a call back that same day to discuss our plan.

Felt like a human because they always made the attempt to connect with me on a personal level outside of why I was visiting the office.

Describe your experience with the nursing staff at Methodist for Women.
Sometimes me being a nurse made it seem as though they didn’t go into grave detail but I had basic understanding already and if questioned something asked and was always given a complete explanation
Describe your experience with Methodist for Women.
Sometimes the limited window to do daily labs and ultrasounds made life slightly difficult as I had to commute 2 hours one way. Understand why the clinic ran that was and in the scheme of thing very mild negative aspect in my mind. Do their best to make smooth process and get you in and out as quick as possible since it is necessary for frequent visits dependent where you are at in treatment course
Describe your experience with your monitoring appointments at Methodist for Women.
As stated before issues I encountered related to the window and my work schedule with a 2 hour commute each way. It’s a big investment so you do what they say to ensure best odds and experience. Process seemed to make wait time lower for the most part and as smooth as possible
Describe the costs associated with your care under Carolyn Maud Doherty at Methodist for Women.
10,000-12,000 for IVF believe about half that for each IUI treatment with medications
Describe Carolyn Maud Doherty's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Methodist for Women.
Max transfer was 3 and that depended on embryo grading.

[Dr. Carolyn Maud Doherty] is very fun and tries to lighten the mood. Treatments can be stressful so I like that she made me feel more relaxed. She is very positive that she can help us get pregnant after everything we have already tried...If you can't handle light humor, she may not be for you...Unfortunately that round failed, our next round, she is increasing the dose and adding a medication for another try at IUI

For our round of IUI, I did 100 ius of gonal f for about a week, then had to do 2 days of 150. I had ultrasounds done on cycle days 1, 9, 12, and 14. Trigger shot was on cycle day 14 and insemination was cycle day 15. Unfortunately that round failed, our next round, she is increasing the dose and adding a medication for another try at IUI

Describe the costs associated with your care under Carolyn Maud Doherty at Methodist for Women.
We are out of network so our insurance doesn't cover anything and we need to pay up front. Consult was $420, my husband's pre-ivf analysis was $525, I had a sonohysterogram that was $1050, our IUI and husband's analysis before insemination was a total of $840. Medications were $1000 from a pharmacy they recommended.

How was your experience with Carolyn Maud Doherty at Methodist for Women?
She’s very knowledgeable, kind, and to the point. She listens to all medical histories and looks for the reason causing infertility. Some may take offense at her fact-based approach, but I deeply respected her for it. I’m almost 40 and not getting any younger. She approached testing with urgency.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Carolyn Maud Doherty at Methodist for Women?
She is a busy doc. Make sure you stay on top of appointments and scheduling. I fell off their radar and work got busy. We only got through the prelim testing.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Carolyn Maud Doherty at Methodist for Women?
She was frank and factual in her delivery of my diagnosis. I respect that. She gave me the news that it would be IVF or nothing. She said we needed to get started on hormone treatments. And I never heard back from her. It was a vague answer and I wasn’t sure how to proceed to next steps. I expected to be called by a scheduler, like usual. But never got a call. Other than this experience, she was incredibly honest and I appreciated her delivery and optimism.

Describe your experience with the nursing staff at Methodist for Women.
My experience with the nurses are limited. I only had two chances to meet with them, and that was just for blood work. They did seem organized and didn’t have any trouble getting my blood, which is saying A LOT. most hospitals can’t.
Describe your experience with Methodist for Women.
Clean, organized, has a play area for kids if you have to bring them. Ultrasounds and blood work are all done in the office which makes the process much easier. They are over stretched. In my opinion, their weakness is not staying on top of follow ups like me.

Dr. Oakes was personable and approachable. I was comfortable asking any questions that came to mind. My unexplained fertility made it difficult for her to communicate exactly what the scenario was and the specifics, so I didn't always understand what was going on and why, but she did her best to explain what she could. She was hopeful and confident in our chances to conceive.
The [Methodist for Women] clinic is efficient with as many patients that are being seen on a regular basis, however, with the number of patients - getting in for procedures, etc. is difficult and could be a setback on your timeline of conceiving...[my nurse] was straight to the point, with no explanations though, which was difficult for me when I am expecting to understand the process..

[Dr. Abigail Delaney] was straightforward and always laid out a plan for me. If there ever was a time when she wasn’t 100% certain how to proceed, she went out of her way to talk to her partners to come to a consensus...was so genuinely sad for me when our first transfer didn’t take, and even more happy for me when our second did...tailored the treatment to my issues, didn’t just follow an algorithm.
I love the early appointments [at Methodist for Women]. I could go before work and still make it to work on time. Everyone is kind and very helpful. Staff call you back right away...They [Nurses] were great. And if they didn’t know the answer, they asked my doctor and they called me back...No complaints at all...[Dr. Delaney] was so genuinely sad for me when our first transfer didn’t take, and even more happy for me when our second did.
How was your experience with Abigail Delaney at Methodist for Women?
Dr Delaney is amazing. She worked really hard to get me pregnant. She was straightforward and always laid out a plan for me. If there ever was a time when she wasn’t 100% certain how to proceed, she went out of her way to talk to her partners to come to a consensus. And she was so genuinely sad for me when our first transfer didn’t take, and even more happy for me when our second did. You’d be lucky to have her as your REI.

I think protocols are individualized and Dr. Oakes treats patients in that way...Very personable, kind, contacted me herself with sensitive information...She was terrific, I have nothing negative to say. She was very precise and blunt in a well mannered way. She was compassionate but set very realistic expectations. Dr. Oakes provided hands on care but it was nice to work with the other drs on occasion as things do come up for patients and drs that leave them unable to choose who performs procedures. Still, Dr. Oakes would give patients the option of waiting for her when possible.
[Monitoring appointments at Methodist for Women are] Efficient but early morning...No weaknesses. They coordinate with other hospitals outside of Omaha to organize blood draws. Great hours/flexibility. Committed staff. Sensitive staff...[nurses are] Always on top of the info and patient with questions...I think protocols are individualized and Dr. Oakes treats patients in that way...I have no concerns about the care provided by Dr.Oakes and the office. It is a difficult process but they all do their best to get you through it.

Dr. Doherty is a great doctor and she is very knowledgeable in her field. ... I’ve done injections with IUI each cycle. Know that no two plans or cycles are the same. ... Be patient. She is bold.

I had ivf with gonal-f only [with Dr. Abigail Delaney]. Other doctors have since treated me with gonal-f + menopur and had better IVF results...There were moments when Dr. Delaney really showed that she cared, like when I miscarried. But for the most part, all care routed through nurses and I couldn't even get access to speak with the doctor...We went through IVF with her once, and she never told us during treatment that I had low estradiol compared to the follicles growing. Nor did she adjust my protocol to use Menopur, which other doctors that treated me since have all done, and my estradiol responded. As a result, we retrieved 15+ eggs and had no embryo to transfer.

Even if you have coverage for diagnostic testing, but not infertility treatments, they would rather avoid billing insurance as much as possible. As a result, I ended up having to submit a lot of claims on my own (and getting coverage).

I only met with Dr. Doherty once and she was very Stern on our options which was nice..... I was very please with Dr. Doherty. She knew what i needed for treatments. With no being able to afford all our expenses we were unable to further our treatments with her. She explained everything in which i could understand.... The consultation was $400. The procedure for IVF would of cost $15,000

I really like Dr. Doherty and her candid/to the point approach. She is compassionate and has been kind to me...She is focused on results which I appreciate...[she] prefers single embryo transfer (at least for me a young patient with PGA normal embryo) which is also my preference due to risk/statistics.
I wish there was an electronic messaging system [at Methodist for Women] and would like to get more of a schedule up front to know what to expect for appointments/meds etc. Information is given on more of a need to know basis...Don't expect too much hand holding, make sure to call nurses during business hours with questions before the lines close (get those hours down)
How was your experience with Carolyn Maud Doherty at Methodist for Women?
I really like Dr. Doherty and her candid/to the point approach. She is compassionate and has been kind to me despite my being a neurotic fertility patient. She is focused on results which I appreciate. It's expensive but it's kind of the only game in town. Currently 12 weeks with my second transfer and hoping that the baby is healthy. If so, it will all be worth it!

I saw Dr. Megan Oakes for a couple years with not the outcome we wanted. She was very nice but I feel that towards the end she was not trying as much as when we first went to her. We had failed IUIs and IVF's. The last couple of IVF's I feel it was on them and they should owe me a free IVF cycle...We went in for a IUI, (2nd or 3rd round), it had to be converted to IVF as too many eggs. So we converted it. The IVF did not turn out. On our second round of IVF we were told I had several eggs, upon egg retrival- they informed me that they didn't retrieve any, that they checked their equipment and everything to make sure it wasn't their error. I still feel it was on them, similar thing happened in the next IVF round too.
They don't take appts [at Methodist for Women]. Only walks in during early morning hours. Sometimes wait times are long. You won't always get to see your doctor, sometimes it others. If you work a 8-5 job, the hours to call can be hard as their phones shut off at a certain time each day...We went in for a IUI, (2nd or 3rd round), it had to be converted to IVF as too many eggs. Dr Delaney is great. You can tell she really cares about her patients and explains the procedures well to make you feel comfortable. ... She will always answer any questions I have and re-explain something to me if I need it. ... Dr.Delaney is very warm and comforting and explains things very well. ... She makes you feel hopeful and excited.
I really don’t like the come get labs/ultrasound anytime between 630 and 9am. I would rather make an appointment. It seems like I wait a really long time when I come at 630 and the line is out the door. That makes me feel like just a number. ... The nursing staff [Methodist for Women] is very friendly ... Everything cost a lot but they give you a price sheet

She [Dr. Doherty] is very funny and explained all the risk and of everything. I was told I had no eggs from another doctor in Maryland and she explained that I did have eggs. She also talked to me about my likely hood of getting pregnant and PGS testing ... be ready to hear what she can do and really take her advice. she is an amazing doctor who is very knowledgeable
Billing is a little odd and high. The front desk staff [Methodist for Women] are great and help you as much as they can, there is not a very long wait and the are very accommodating to your schedule. The only "weakness" is the billing but I understand ... I had asked them not prescribe a certain med as it was to strong and they did anyway and didn't change when I asked them to

Dr. Oakes was kind and thorough. She always took time to explain things and was amazing through the difficult parts. Her partner, Dr. Dougherty was also very succinct & thorough. I always felt like both them, all her staff, and their amazing ultrasound tech genuinely cared & the nurses who drew blood are so good at what they do.
The clinic [Methodist for Women - Omaha] is clean and staff are caring. Appointments are quick and efficient but also thorough. The ultrasound tech is awesome at her job and wonderfully caring. The early hours are helpful to be able to get in and out and back to work.... My first cycle was about $32k (meds and hotel stays included). This FET cycle will be about $5-6k

I have never felt more at ease at a doctor's appointment. She [Dr. Abigail Delaney] asked me questions about me and my life without jumping to conclusions...I felt seen. She was calm and very welcoming. Didn't treat me poorly and even drew pictures when I had questions. She would call me back and help answer any questions or concerns and spoke to me like a real person...Don't worry if you don't understand something. She will do whatever she can to explain it!
The only complaint I have [about Methodist for Women] is the front desk was not very friendly or welcoming. When I had a question, I was treated like it was a stupid one. Dr. Oakes was always very personable and upfront. She had an amazing bedside manner and my husband and I love her! My husband who hates doctors felt very comfortable throughout our whole IVF process. She explained everything to where we could understand it and nothing over our head! She was always upfront and never sugar coated anything, and during IVF or any Infertility Treatment I felt that was needed!

She [Dr. Oakes] didn’t explain things in detail. I felt lost on the actual cost of everything. Everything felt fast and rushed....I only did consultation and diagnostics with her....It would have been nice to be provided with a calendar of events or something like that. Also would have been nice to get a true cost of the whole thing as a total amount. However, Meghan was approachable. She gave me accurate information on risks.
The clinic [Methodist For Women] was typical as any other clinic. I do not have any negative comments about the clinic. Appointments were easy to schedule. The staff was very kind. They are staffed seven days a week, so there was not issuing in scheduling....The nursing staff was as expected in communication and appointments.... Everything was very rushed. Pleased to have switched to her [Dr. Meghan Oakes] from a previous provider in another state. She took the time to explain things and it was clear she had reviewed records prior tothe consultation. She had suggestions for changing the course of action but let us have input throughout the process... The facilities [at Methodist for Women- Omaha] were nice, and the staff who work the office were great. Their willingness to check, double check and triple check with insurance to get things covered, even discovering a small portion of infertility treatments was covered through our policy and therefore we could go back and request a refund from treatments done at our previous clinic just goes to show how great they’ve been!

[Dr. Abigail Delaney] was on maternity leave herself when we found out that I had a chemical pregnancy and she still called me. When I was hospitalized after complications from an egg retrieval, she came in the hospital room and just sat with my husband and I for awhile after she had gotten off work just to make sure we were okay. When we finally got pregnant, she made sure she got to do our last ultrasound before releasing me to our OB in our town so she could congratulate us.
Our clinic [Methodist for Women] was extremely organized. We never left feeling confused or not knowing what our next steps were. They were very responsive if we called with questions. Everyone we came in contact with was extremely friendly and made us feel at home. It felt less like a clinic and more like our home away from home.
How was your experience with Abigail Delaney at Methodist for Women?
Dr Delaney is so knowledgeable. She changed our treatment when things didn't work. She was always hopeful and promised she would tell us if she didn't think something was in our best interest or if it wouldn't work. IVF is hard enough, but she made it so much easier. I had previously seen other doctors that didn't listen to me or take my concerns seriously. Abby listened to us and we felt heard. I always felt that I was in the best hands when I was with her and completed trusted any decision she made. We are so thankful that we ended up with her and are currently 27 weeks pregnant with twins!
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Abigail Delaney at Methodist for Women?
I would encourage any future patient to trust her. She knows how important this is to her patients and she wants it to work just as badly as you do!
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Abigail Delaney at Methodist for Women?
Dr. Delaney was so personable. She makes you feel like family. She was on maternity leave herself when we found out that I had a chemical pregnancy and she still called me. She is absolutely amazing.
Describe the protocols Abigail Delaney used in your cycles at Methodist for Women and their degree of success.
We had 1 retrieval that we only had 2 embryos. We transferred both and it failed. She changed our medication protocol for the second retrieval and we were much more successful and ended up with 12 embryos. After a few more unsuccessful transfers, she informed me of some new testing (receptiva and the ERA). She did those tests and discovered that I did have endemtriosis. We treated that, did another cycle and we are now expecting twins.
Describe your experience with your nurse at Methodist for Women. (Assigned nurse: Monica)
Monica was our primary nurse for 3 of our transfers. She was so detailed with our calendars and instructions for medications. She was helpful when we had questions and never made me feel bad for asking a question more than once.
Describe your experience with Methodist for Women.
Our clinic was extremely organized. We never left feeling confused or not knowing what our next steps were. They were very responsive if we called with questions. Everyone we came in contact with was extremely friendly and made us feel at home. It felt less like a clinic and more like our home away from home.
Describe your experience with your monitoring appointments at Methodist for Women.
The clinic had a very routine experience for monitoring ultrasounds. You arrive during a certain timeframe, sign in, and they would get you in and out quickly. However, you never felt rushed. We were always welcome to ask questions or stop and talk to a nurse or your doctor if needed.
