This is the most recent data from the CDC. The CDC cautions that it should not be used to compare doctors and clinics. This data represents the outcomes of IVF cycles when using a person's own eggs.
For more information please see our FAQs.
Where you see a “?” on the chart, a clinic has done fewer than 20 cycles in this category and age range, so the CDC says showing percentages from this small data set would be misleading and unreliable.
Dr. Whitten was very kind...took the time to answer all my questions that I would have...I am nurse myself so I understand medical processes so I felt comfortable that I understood the process before going in but wish I had more education from the provider himself since he was performing the procedure...we had an “antagonist protocol” with IVF and ICSI...14 eggs retrieved, 14 mature and all 14 fertilized
The clinic [Nevada Center for Reproductive Medicine] seems to run on time if not ahead of time...The online portal does not provide any important information. No lab or test results that were performed in the clinic are available for review...clean and welcoming...felt like I was pushed through with not a whole lot of “human” connection from the staff. The nurse coordinators were great though.
How was your experience with Scott Whitten at Nevada Center for Reproductive Medicine?
Dr. Whitten was very friendly and approachable. As a nurse I do not feel like he gave me enough information or education on our situation or diagnosis. I know we skipped ahead in our treatment (opted for IVF) over undergoing repeat tests. He didn’t explain the IVF protocols or expectations with us. Additionally he did not go over the egg retrieval procedure with me. I just got a brief overview of this by the nurse coordinators. I am nurse myself so I understand medical processes so I felt comfortable that I understood the process before going in but wish I had more education from the provider himself since he was performing the procedure.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Scott Whitten at Nevada Center for Reproductive Medicine?
Make sure you have a list of questions going in. Make sure to ask him to explain all procedures and protocols before starting treatment.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Scott Whitten at Nevada Center for Reproductive Medicine?
Dr. Whitten was very kind when I had appointments with him. He took the time to answer all my questions that I would have. Although sometimes I would have to ask for information rather than him telling me the information. Appointments with Dr. Whitten made me feel like a “human”. For my lab, testing and monitoring appointments I felt more like a number. I know the clinic is busy during IVF cycles but I just felt like I was pushed through with not a whole lot of “human” connection from the staff. The nurse coordinators were great though.
Describe the protocols Scott Whitten used in your cycles at Nevada Center for Reproductive Medicine and their degree of success.
Initially Dr. Whitten started with basic testing. We had some labs drawn (not cycle day specific) and I had an hsg ordered to rule out tubal defects. An transvaginal ultrasound was also performed by Dr. Whitten showing that i had very thin endometrial lining post ovulation . I had the hsg done by a local hospital and it showed bilateral tubal occlusion. Initial labs looked fine as well as my husbands sperm analysis. He then suggested I have a repeat hsg preformed by him with Valium once they get a new machine (this is the reason I was sent out). He believed that I had a spasm causing the occlusion. He said we could do the repeat hsg and then depending on the results do iui x 4 before progressing to IVF or I can go straight to IVF. We opted for IVF due to limited insurance lifetime coverage. He told me to let the nurse coordinator know our decision which we did. After that I had no other information provided by Dr. Whitten. Apparently we had an “antagonist protocol” with IVF and ICSI. No one explained ICSI I just had to research on my own. I just had my egg retrieval 4 days ago and awaiting on final numbers. I had 14 eggs retrieved, 14 mature and all 14 fertilized. For stimulation medications I was on 225-300 Follistim, 150 menopur and then at some point started on Ganirelix. I triggered with pregnyl and lupron
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at Nevada Center for Reproductive Medicine.
Both nurses Jen and Alli were great. Between the 2 of them they would always call when they said they would call and would promptly return any calls I had. They were never rushed when I was on the phone with them and took their time explaining anything that we needed. I had some issues with my pharmacy and insurance (trying to get them to dispense formulary meds) and they called the pharmacy for me to get it situated. They were both great.
Describe your experience with Nevada Center for Reproductive Medicine.
The clinic seems to run on time if not ahead of time. I was never late getting pulled back for my appointment which is unheard of. I truly appreciate that from them. The online portal does not provide any important information. No lab or test results that were performed in the clinic are available for review. Clinic is clean and welcoming.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Scott Whitten at Nevada Center for Reproductive Medicine.
The IVF cycle costs around $14,000 not including medications (this was about $11,000 via Optum pharmacy. I had to use Optum per my insurance) or PGT-A testing (billed by lab at $150 per embryo). We also had to pay for HSG which so far has cost me $300 from the radiologist. We had to pay for the initial appointment which was around $400. We also had to pay for preconception genetic testing and infectious disease testing done with Labcorp (unsure of these costs at the moment). I do have some fertility coverage through my insurance.
He [Dr. Foulk] always gave me options and let me decide what was next. He shared his recommendations but ultimately left me in control. He was proactive in testing when I miscarried. He recently moved around his schedule so he could preform a few tests himself rather than having his NP complete them. I truly believe he’s on my side and wants what’s best for me. He answers questions, explains why he wants to do things and let’s me decide.
Rayanne [nurse at Nevada Center for Reproductive Medicine] is the very best! I’ve seen her from day one and have nothing but great things to say about her. She’s kind, caring, and understanding. She’s also smart and organized and always remembers specific details and makes sure to call when she says she’s going to. I also saw Jennifer Lassi and Allie during my egg retrieval, they’re both kind and organized and answered all of my questions. Kara helped during transfers and was also great. Their nursing staff is beyond wonderful.

Schedule with them before you think it’s necessary so you don’t have to wait not see them.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Russell Foulk at Nevada Center for Reproductive Medicine?
I see the same doctor, nurse and assistants every time I go there. They know me by name and know my history as well as what is occurring currently with my treatments. I genuinely feel like they care and to me, that is invaluable.
Describe the protocols Russell Foulk used in your cycles at Nevada Center for Reproductive Medicine and their degree of success.
IUI with clomid (150mg/day cycle days 3-7) and a trigger shot 24 hours prior to iui from the first one. Baseline ultrasound was cycle day 1-3, trigger shot around cycle day 13. I did 6 total, the 3rd and 6th successful but both ended in miscarriages. Progesterone suppositories following iui. I took cytotec to induce those miscarriages. He then did recurrent loss testing, all which came back normal and a hysteroscopy after a saline sonogram. At that point I moved to IVF. Egg retrieval ended with 4 healthy embryos after genetic testing. I did a mock cycle with ERA that showed I needed progesterone early (170 hours prior to transfer). Both transfers went well. I took Valium prior to transfer and was on strict bed rest for 4 days following my FET. They drew labs to check progesterone and estrogen 6 days post transfer. I did PIO and estrogen shots. Ny first transfer was successful but ended in a miscarriage at 7 weeks. My second transfer failed.
He then did a saline sonogram and HSG and found a newly blocked Fallopian tube and new polyp in my uterus. Next up is surgery to address those findings and then another transfer.

Describe your experience with Nevada Center for Reproductive Medicine.
They’re good at communicating and scheduling. I have had a wonderful experience, even though I haven’t achieved the results I’m hoping for-yet. The nurses are a definite highlight as is Dr. Foulk. I appreciate that they know who I am and are compassionate.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Russell Foulk at Nevada Center for Reproductive Medicine.
IUI with medications we’re about $1,000 per attempt. Egg retieval/genetic testing $10,000. Each transfer is $3,000
Describe Russell Foulk's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Nevada Center for Reproductive Medicine.
I chose to transfer one. Given my miscarriage history I felt better having multiple attempts.
He [Dr. Scott Whitten] plans IVF cycles based off of his schedule, so he only does IVF cycles every other month because "it's convenient for him and his staff". He also put me on birth control to suppress my cycle to fit to his schedule. Because he only does IVF every other month this means you are shuffled in like cattle for ultrasounds + bloodwork...I rarely saw Dr. Whitten but when I did he had very little compassion or interest in my case.
The [Nevada Center for Reproductive Medicine] nursing staff is overworked and lackluster at best. Communication was almost always initiated by me. When I was told I would receive a call about our one remaining embryo (to see if it made it to full development) I received a phone call at the end of the day, I believe almost 5pm, that the embryologist "couldn't check on my embryo because they're too busy". Then waited all weekend to see if it had survived. No compassion.
How was your experience with Scott Whitten at Nevada Center for Reproductive Medicine?
I rarely saw Dr. Whitten but when I did he had very little compassion or interest in my case. Here are some bulletpoints for why I do not recommend him to anyone.
-When I brought up a concern that I thought I had endometriosis he told me "it wouldn't change the way he treated me" and brushed it off. After I left his clinic and switched to a new doctor, who referred me to a great surgeon, we found stage III endo, a uterine septum, fibroids, cysts and scarring. All of these things needed to be removed for me to ever have a chance at pregnancy.
-Out of 4 IUI's Dr. Whitten performed 1, none of them worked. He also later told me (during our IVF consult) that he would have liked for me to have had two follicles during the final 3 IUI's. So he never reviewed my ultrasounds or bloodwork until after they failed, he didn't catch that I was only producing 1 follicle the last 3 cycles because I NEVER saw him and his nurse performed the last 3.
-During my one egg retrieval with Dr. Whitten I had plenty of follicles and he had me do a double lupron shot for my trigger shots. I had bloodwork done in the office 12 hours later to make sure my LH surge was high enough. He DID NOT CATCH that my LH surge was critically low after the two lupron shots. This resulted in my eggs not full maturing before the egg retrieval, even though I had an HCG ready to go. NO ONE LOOKED AT MY BLOODWORK. We ended up with 1 embryo. We started with 11 and by day 4 all put one had arrested. This experience caused me to believe there was something wrong with me physically and I was terrified to go through IVF again. Thank God I switched doctors because my new doctor did a great job and 100% of my embryos with her were genetically normal and healthy.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Scott Whitten at Nevada Center for Reproductive Medicine?
Don't go there.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Scott Whitten at Nevada Center for Reproductive Medicine?
He plans IVF cycles based off of his schedule, so he only does IVF cycles every other month because "it's convenient for him and his staff". He also put me on birth control to suppress my cycle to fit to his schedule. Because he only does IVF every other month this means you are shuffled in like cattle for ultrasounds + bloodwork. When I spoke with the nurse and asked her how many girls were doing egg retrievals she said atleast 60.
Describe the protocols Scott Whitten used in your cycles at Nevada Center for Reproductive Medicine and their degree of success.
There was no customized care, everything was cookie cutter because it was easier for him and his staff.

The clinic looks rundown, which really makes me wonder about their medical equipment as well. Staff is okay, bloodwork was always fast. Billing was easy. The main issues are the communication with everyone is poor, you are shuffled around like cattle.

What specific things went wrong at Nevada Center for Reproductive Medicine?
Dr. Foulk has awesome, warm bedside manners. He is easy to talk to and answered all my questions and addressed my concerns. He rotates between 2 clinics - Nevada and also Utah, so he is quite busy and not always available for all my visits...He will be there to perform the critical procedures such as embryo transfer and if I specifically ask for a phone consult with him, the nurse can arrange for him to call
Rayanne is the nurse coordinator with egg donor patients [at NCRM]. Overall, she did a good job but because she is so busy, my emails or phone calls may not always be answered in a timely fashion...Clinic's strengths are definitely its doctors...New patient should also expect it to be busy and not all the nurses are warm and personable, although most are....Quite reasonable rates
How was your experience with Russell Foulk at Nevada Center for Reproductive Medicine?
Dr. Foulk is quite confident from the start even though I was a bit skeptical.
I was referred to him by my coworker and I am so glad I sought his care.
Very nice and warm demeanor. I always felt at ease with him and just wish I can see him on every visit, although he is busy and not always available.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Russell Foulk at Nevada Center for Reproductive Medicine?
Don't expect to see Dr. Foulk too often. As mentioned before, he works between 2 clinics in 2 different states, so expect to see the nurses and/or nurse practitioner most of the time. He will be there to perform the critical procedures such as embryo transfer and if I specifically ask for a phone consult with him, the nurse can arrange for him to call.

Dr. Foulk has awesome, warm bedside manners. He is easy to talk to and answered all my questions and addressed my concerns. He rotates between 2 clinics - Nevada and also Utah, so he is quite busy and not always available for all my visits. The majority of the staff are friendly and nice, but sometimes I do wait a while to get a reply to my email.
Describe the protocols Russell Foulk used in your cycles at Nevada Center for Reproductive Medicine and their degree of success.
Since I used donor eggs, it was relatively simple for me. I had a saline sonogram done since I had a history of 2 uterine polyps removed the year before. Results showed my lining was clear without polyps. Then a mock cycle (ERA) performed to determine best time to transfer based on hours on progesterone, and it showed I was receptive.
My male partner got genetic screening. Once sperm was collected from my partner and fertilized with the eggs, we got 4 viable embryos which were sent for PGT testing. Then did an embryo transfer cycle consisting of estradiol IM, progesterone IM, Endometrin (progesterone vaginal), doxycyline for few days as an anti-bacterial, prednisone for few days as anti-inflammatory and baby aspirin to prevent any blood clotting.

Rayanne is the nurse coordinator with egg donor patients.
Overall, she did a good job but because she is so busy, my emails or phone calls may not always be answered in a timely fashion. It's tough since I want to know certain things right away. When I call the office esp the front desk, it's often a long wait before I'm helped. So I feel the office can improve in terms of organization and time managment
Describe your experience with Nevada Center for Reproductive Medicine.
Clinic's strengths are definitely its doctors. I hear Dr. Whitten (the other doctor in the clinic) is also a great, compassionate doctor. The front office and waiting area looks warm and clean. However, my partner did tell me the room he went to for sperm collection does need improvement- it's a bit messy and not too inviting. New patient should also expect it to be busy and not all the nurses are warm and personable, although most are. Since it's in Nevada, the rates and fees are definitely an improvement over California but you still get the same high quality care if not better from Dr. Foulk.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Russell Foulk at Nevada Center for Reproductive Medicine.
Quite reasonable rates compared to the clinic I went to in California; cost less than half of what I paid in California for similar services.
I used frozen donor eggs and went thru insemination with my male partner's sperm, along with PGT with the retrieved embryos. Then did an embryo transfer cycle which luckily was a success on 1st try.
Describe Russell Foulk's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Nevada Center for Reproductive Medicine.
Dr. Foulk is open to multiple embryo transfer but he advised me to do single transfer since i'ts less risky esp with my extensive medical history and advanced age. Having twins will carry more risks in pregnancy and it will complicate my history even more
What specific things went wrong at Nevada Center for Reproductive Medicine?
Lost paperwork
Failed to call with results
Provided conflicting information
Describe the specific things that went wrong at Nevada Center for Reproductive Medicine.
It was nothing major, but like I mentioned before the nurse sometimes did not email me results when I asked for it (ie- progesterone or estrogen levels).
Not enough attention to detail is really the issue.
I felt like I had to initiate a lot of things to move things along.
Overall though, things were resolved in the end.
Dr Whitten is very knowledgable and thorough. He also respects the wishes of the patient. For example, if he recommended IUI, he would explain why but also gave me the choice to do timed intercourse if I didn’t feel comfortable with IUI. ... First protocol was 5 MG of Femara with a 10,000iu HCG trigger shot. The day following the trigger was my IUI. 4 failed of those and he recommended IVF. We did IVF Egg Retrieval, and then a laparoscopy to remove all of my endometriosis in prep for frozen transfer. I ended up getting pregnant by a trigger shot used to induce my period for my FET. I think the laparoscopy made a HUGE difference. I had both endo and PCOS. The only thing I wish is that he would have recommended the laparoscopy sooner.
Overall; the clinic [Nevada Center for Reproductive Medicine] is amazing. So many strengths. The different coordinators are really great at returning calls and emails. It’s always a guarantee that you will hear back from someone by the end of the day. The clinic has a very warm and welcome feel, to the point that the front desk staff will actually know you by name when you walk in without checking the chart. It’s always been a pleasure to be with everyone there excluding the PA

Describe your experience with your nurse at Nevada Center for Reproductive Medicine. (Assigned nurse: Jonna)
Jonna was always very rude, rushed, and lacked empathy. There were several times i left discouraged only because of her comments and criticism. At one point, I did speak with Dr Whitten about it and he resolved it fairly quick. The rest of the staff at NCRM is ABSOLUTELY amazing. I had conflicting information once, when I asked about how many mature follicles you can have with them continuing with trigger shot and IUI. Jonna would not give me a number, and specifically referenced my age. She refused to answer my question about office policy. I had to email a different staff member, Vanessa, later on in the day to get a straightforward, appropriate answer.

When you have an appointment with him [Dr. Foulk] ask a lot of questions, because you may not see him as often as you think. He’s also honest, so don’t expect sugar coating...We did a mock cycle, to make sure we had the best chance of sticking. It did turn out I needed more progesterone prior to transfer. Eventually we had our FET, unfortunately it also failed. After my failed IVF we met with dr Faulk again, and he explained that we unfortunately just had back luck with the embryo not sticking.
I always felt like I was in great hands with the PA and nurses [at Nevada Center for Reproductive Medicine]. They were always friendly, informative, helpful and compassionate...IVF without meds and PGS was about $15k...They’re really great at being present with patients, easy to get in touch with and always helpful. I love Dr. Faulk and think he’s overall a good Dr. for me. He was always honest and friendly. My only issue is that he also works in UT, so I didn’t see him as often. But I never worried about the care I was getting.

Describe the protocols Russell Foulk used in your cycles at Nevada Center for Reproductive Medicine and their degree of success.
The first 7 cycles I had were timed with clomid or Femera. I think I changed to Femara on the 4th month, it worked better with my body. After 7 cycles we moved to IUI, with femera. The 3rd cycle was cancelled due to having no follicles, or missing ovulation. I had 4 total. All my timed and IUI cycles failed, with no positive test. A few months later we started IVF, I don’t remember how much of each medication I took for any cycle. Our cycle only gave us one embryo. We did PGS testing, mostly because we decided to before the retrieval, thinking we’d have more than 1 day 6 embryo. It was normal. We did a mock cycle, to make sure we had the best chance of sticking. It did turn out I needed more progesterone prior to transfer. Eventually we had our FET, unfortunately it also failed. After my failed IVF we met with dr Faulk again, and he explained that we unfortunately just had back luck with the embryo not sticking. Which we understood. He also said I don’t have the best quality eggs, and the amount of medication we did was high for someone my age and size, should have had a better outcome. We did plan to do another round, with more medication and a different approach, but we have not yet done so.

In general, Dr. Whitten and the staff were kind toward my husband and me. The appointments did seem rushed, and impersonal at times...is knowledgeable and was willing to allow us to move forward with IVF, after 2 failed IUIs with a previous doctor. We only saw him at the initial consultation and during the egg retrieval...The specifics of my protocol, and the rationale behind them, were never articulated to me...Dr. Whitten strongly advises that we choose to transfer one embryo at a time, but will allow us to transfer two if we request it...We were hoping to receive more information about each test result (blood draw numbers, numbers of follicles, numbers of growing embryos, etc.), but we only received the number of eggs collected, number of fertilized eggs, and number of frozen embryos.
[Nevada Center for Reproductive Medicine] is the only clinic in town, so we didn't have a choice. We were treated well by the doctor and staff, and the clinic itself is very comfortable. We were hoping to receive more information about each test result (blood draw numbers, numbers of follicles, numbers of growing embryos, etc.), but we only received the number of eggs collected, number of fertilized eggs, and number of frozen embryos. We just felt like the appointments were rushed, only pertinent information was shared with us, and the ultimate number of embryos was less than expected.
He seems to be empathetic and has always been nice. He is thorough and understanding. During our last appointment, he gave us his email address which I wish we would have had in the beginning. It is nice to be able to directly communication with him. ... Medicine assisted IUI. I took femara for 5 days, had an ultrasound, trigger shot (pregnyl) and IUI. We used fresh and frozen sperm as the count was always really low.
Strengths [of NV Ctr Repro Med]- good statistics Weaknesses- poor communication IVF starts approximately every other month so it is important to plan accordingly. ... Our count was low for the first IUI but the PA still recommended that we proceed. ... The financial counselor does not have as much information as you would hope to get. ... My husband and I felt like there was poor internal communication and the doctor should have been notified about our low numbers after the first IUI.The nursing staff are really kind and compassionate. They are always really supportive and empathetic. The PA does not seem to be very empathetic. She did not help make my IUI experiences less stressful.

During our last appointment, he gave us his email address which I wish we would have had in the beginning. It is nice to be able to directly communication with him.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Scott Whitten at Nevada Center for Reproductive Medicine?
Get his email address so you do not always have to go through the staff. Ask to see him if possible over the PA
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Scott Whitten at Nevada Center for Reproductive Medicine?
Dr. Whitten has been really nice to my husband and I but we have actually seen the PA for most of our treatment. Our count was low for the first IUI but the PA still recommended that we proceed. At this time, I felt like it would have been nice for the Doctor to check in with us but it seemed like we were pretty much on our own. The second IUI numbers were even worse and I was pretty upset. The PA recommended that I make a consult appointment to speak with the doctor due to my “emotional” state right after the 2nd IUI. The only available appointment would have been after the start of the third IUI and initially he recommended 4 to 5 rounds. We decided to continue with the third IUI but our consult appointment was cancelled. We lucked out and Dr Whitten was there for the procedure and told us that We should make a consult appointment to discuss other treatment options . My husband and I felt like there was poor internal communication and the doctor should have been notified about our low numbers after the first IUI. We probably would have wasted less money and time.
Describe the protocols Scott Whitten used in your cycles at Nevada Center for Reproductive Medicine and their degree of success.
Medicine assisted IUI. I took femara for 5 days, had an ultrasound, trigger shot (pregnyl) and IUI. We used fresh and frozen sperm as the count was always really low.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at Nevada Center for Reproductive Medicine.
The nursing staff are really kind and compassionate. They are always really supportive and empathetic. The PA does not seem to be very empathetic. She did not help make my IUI experiences less stressful.

Weaknesses- poor communication
IVF starts approximately every other month so it is important to plan accordingly. The financial counselor does not have as much information as you would hope to get.

They can be hard to get a hold of and sometimes it is important information that you need.
They do not seem to have good communication within the office as we felt like the doctor should have been notified about our numbers and he should have met with us sooner.
The PA was not very nice to us.
He [Dr. Whitten] suggested times intercourse with a low dose of Femara. No pregnancy resulted. He said that we should do 4 cycles of IUI before trying IVF but neglected to say the success rates of IUI. We instead asked about IVF and decided to skip any IUI cycles...he does not like to do more than one embryo at a time...I broke down in his office after our 3rd failed attempt and he suggested I see a therapist because she’s better at dealing with how I’m feeling.
About $3,000.00 for three cycles of timed inter course with ultrasounds, medication and copays. IVF will be approximately $20,000-$25,000...This clinic is the only one in town so there are no other close local options. It is clean and everything is done in house which is convenient. The staff is overall great and make an effort to get you in for your appointments...They [nurses] are kind, but seem like they are sick of dealing with emotional couples.
How was your experience with Scott Whitten at Nevada Center for Reproductive Medicine?
He is very kind and seems like he genuinely wants to help, however we’re still not pregnant so I feel like our options are getting smaller and smaller. When I asked about moving to IVF it seemed like it didn’t matter to him either way whether we perused any further treatments.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Scott Whitten at Nevada Center for Reproductive Medicine?
Don’t have such high expectations. Start saving yesterday for IVF.

Describe Scott Whitten's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Nevada Center for Reproductive Medicine.
I prefer multiple transfer because I don’t want to have to go through any more fertility issues. So the possibility of multiples is welcomed greatly, but he does not like to do more than one embryo at a time.

My first cycle of timed inter course was over the Christmas holiday and I had to call the on call nurse when the office was closed. They told me very conflicting information about testing, intercourse and an ultrasound and told me to cancel a visit on the Monday after the holiday. I feel like something was confused and I was mislead since the nurses were saying different things than when I was in the office.

What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Scott Whitten at Nevada Center for Reproductive Medicine?
Just know that you won’t see the doctor very often. Be prepared to see the PA most of the time. Dr. Whitten did do the major stuff: consults, egg retrieval, transfer.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Scott Whitten at Nevada Center for Reproductive Medicine?
Seeing dr. Whitten was great, when I saw him. Usually it was a PA, and I never ever felt like a human with her. Felt like a huge cattle drive all the time, they wanted me in and out quickly. I wish I had seen dr. Whitten more.
Describe the protocols Scott Whitten used in your cycles at Nevada Center for Reproductive Medicine and their degree of success.
First we did iui. It was pretty standard, but after my consult with him it was always the PA. And when they failed, there was no communication as to what we could do differently. It was so frustrating. Ivf was different. Dr. Whitten recommenced a mock cycle, which helped determine the best transfer time. Then he put me on an antihistamine protocol. So far so good, but I haven’t “graduated” to my regular ob just yet.
Describe your experience with your nurse at Nevada Center for Reproductive Medicine. (Assigned nurse: Debra Stevenson )
This is where I felt like a number. There was little compassion, little explanation. It always felt like she had no idea who I was, why I was there, or anything other than what popped up on her schedule. I felt lost a lot. There was a coordinator for egg retrieval, I can’t remember her name (Jen maybe?) and she was great. But after that, it was Debbie, the fet coordinator.

We paid out of pocket for iui, but then our insurance changed and we had coverage for ivf. We paid maybe 10%

Be prepared to talk mostly with nurses and try to ask as many questions as you can when you do meet him [Dr. Foulk]...He started with clomid rounds to for see if I could get pregnant and then when I didn’t he moved us up to IUI. After getting my chemical they did one last round of iui and have offered to do one more round (making 5 rounds total) while my husband and I try to save and plan for IVF...He was very nice in our meetings but we would only see him or talk with him after all planned course of treatments failed. He would just tell us what he wanted to do next and has seemed very hands off.
The nurse practitioners [at Nevada Center for Reproductive Medicine] were amazing but the medical assistant acted as if it was a pain to answer questions, seemed overly happy to call with negative betas, and showed no empathy or care during my chemical pregnancy...When we spoke with the Dr about the medical assistant he just laughed it off and has had previous complaints but did not seem to care...They are fairly slow to respond to phone messages and very rarely answer the nurses help line. It is nice to be able to call nights or weekends if there is an emergency. Sometimes appointments start very late but they usually have openings for procedures. They do not look at timing between trigger shots and iui injections.

I have low AMH and my husband has low motility. Dr. Faulk first tried 4 rounds of 5 days of 100mg clomid stimulation which all failed. He decided next to try 4 rounds IUI with Clomid 100 mg for 5 days for stimulation. One resulted in a chemical and the last round the nurse bumped my does up to 150mg of clomid for 5 days.

Dr. Whitten is polite and knowledgeable. However, when seeking medical help to achieve a pregnancy, you need answers. Several questions were never fully answered for me. Concerns were made out as “silly”. Additionally, I felt if there is an option before using injectable meds, it needs to be utilized first. Not just jumping straight to where the money is at! I would also have liked to meet with the doctor more....I did one round of clomid with Dr. Whitten. I was resistant and did not ovulate. When I went in for my follicle scan, we simply canceled the cycle because there were no follicles. I did a round of Femara and I ovulated. I did not conceive.
Communication from doctor to patient needs to be improved. The clinical staff [Nevada Ctr for Repro Med] could learn how to smile once in a while. Otherwise, everyone is knowledgeable. The clinic is very clean! I do appreciate that. One thing is, the office staff does not manage insurance well. If your insurance has a claim issue, you will be responsible for the cash pay price of the visit and no additional visits can be made until any existing balances are paid in full.

I am extremely young. I started trying to get pregnant at 18 with medical help. I was never given the consideration, compassion, and understanding needed. Several older friends of mine were treated much better because they had more funds available.
Describe the protocols Scott Whitten used in your cycles at Nevada Center for Reproductive Medicine and their degree of success.
I did one round of clomid with Dr. Whitten. I was resistant and did not ovulate. When I went in for my follicle scan, we simply canceled the cycle because there were no follicles. I did a round of Femara and I ovulated. I did not conceive. Following that, we did Femara a second time and I did not ovulate. I was not checking to see if there were any follicles. I had to wait 6 weeks for my period to be missed/come before any treatments would happen. I never started my cycle myself. Since then to current we have used injections. The first cycle was 75IU follistim. I was triggered and ovulated. Second was 300 IU gonal f. I ovulated. We did it again, and I did not ovulate or produce follicles. Third, we did 600 IU and I overstimulated. We are currently starting prednisone. Also, we have had several tries between the cycles stated where we used the same protocols with the same results.

Because of my insurance, I have $45.00 copays. My husband had a $250.00 payment for all sperm samples. IUI is typically $550.00, but my insurance allows 6 in a fiscal year. If your insurance sends back a claim error, you will be forced to pay the full cash price to be seen again.

Describe the specific things that went wrong at Nevada Center for Reproductive Medicine.
Pregnancy blood tests are used with all treatment cycles. Several times I have not been called with results and I have to call the clinic requesting results. Sometimes, I have to wait a while for a call back or they cannot find the results. On several occasions I have been told I do not need to prepare for my appointment then be asked to do something I was told I did not need to do. I have also been told two different treatment plans.
Dr Foulk has been very upfront about my options and takes all the time I need to answer my questions.... The doctor suggested that I try three medicated cycles with IUI even despite being at an advanced maternal age. He was upfront that the procedure had low odds of 2-4% chance of a live birth per cycle. When asked if I should move onto IVF instead, he responded that my AMH was high for my age and thus I was in no rush.
The doctor is fantastic but the rest of the professionals [Nevada Ctr for Repro Med] are so-so. They seem competent so I don't have any issues with them treating me, but I feel like I have to stay totally on top of my treatment to get all the information that I need. There have been a couple of surprises.... A few hiccups have occurred, mostly minor annoyances that I was able to correct on my own. The nurse forgot to call in a prescription which resulted in me having to wait an extra 30 minutes.
How was your experience with Russell Foulk at Nevada Center for Reproductive Medicine?
Dr Foulk is clearly very knowledgeable about his field and seems to be a successful business man. He has taken the time to answer my questions and is very transparent when asking. However, at my last visit when discussing the IVF procedure it seemed like I had an understanding of where we were going. Later, I received a price sheet from the financial counselor that had all these extra things that we did not discuss. Sometimes, I feel like I am not given the full picture and without all the information I am not equipped to ask all the questions that I need answers.

A few hiccups have occurred, mostly minor annoyances that I was able to correct on my own. The nurse forgot to call in a prescription which resulted in me having to wait an extra 30 minutes. We did not get the results back from testing without having to call or ask. Despite saying they would, they did not do an antral follicle count. The doctor later gave me a number off of a US image. When measuring the follicles they failed to give me the numbers, which again I later got from the doctor.

Describe the protocols Scott Whitten used in your cycles at Nevada Center for Reproductive Medicine and their degree of success.
I have unexplined fertility so all test results came back normal. He suggested IUI because if I had hostile cervical mucus and IUI would bypass the cervix. I was ovulating on my own but he had me taking clomid and then femara to help produce a big enough folicle. Once I had a big enough folicle I was given and HCG shot to force ovulation and then did the IUI the next day. After the IUI I took progesterone suppository until I got a negative pregnancy test the day my period should start in case I didn't produce enough progesterone on my own. All though out my cycle the would do an ultrasound of my ovaries to see the progress of the foliclesame and to make sure I didn't have any cysts from the medication. Theven Dr won't give you a prescription unlessential you are being monitored with the frequent ultrasounds.

I remember that there was a substantial financial cost involved with this clinic. We were able to do most of the testing on our military base's health clinic, which saved us some money. The reason we did not go forward with IVF here was due to the cost. We were able to do two IUI cycles at this clinic.

He [Dr. Russell Foulk] seemed honest and everyone helped us with our journey to concieve but each iui failed...He explained what he would do and the success rates, cost, and answered any questions we had...He's really nice...When it didn't take Dr. Foulk wanted to do ivf but since I was barely working I didn't have the money and we were putting our iuis on a credit card. So we stopped there and haven't been able to afford ivf.
The staff [at Nevada Center for Reproductive Medicine] was very nice and listened to our concerns and questions. The only thing we didn't like was when you called you always had to leave a message and they'd call you back...They [nurses] all cared. They were nice and helpful in any questions I had about the meds and when to take them... It cost $250.00 for an ultrasound of my tubes and uterus to find eggs after I took Clomid and then $500.00 for each iui.

The staff was very nice and listened to our concerns and questions. The only thing we didn't like was when you called you always had to leave a message and they'd call you back. They did have one lady who had an accent and she was hard to understand.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Russell Foulk at Nevada Center for Reproductive Medicine.
We paid after each appointment when we checked out. My insurance didn't cover any of our luis so we put it all on a credit card. My insurance did cover a pap smear and the procedure to see if my tubes were blocked. It cost $250.00 for an ultrasound of my tubes and uterus to find eggs after I took Clomid and then $500.00 for each iui. Medication cost around $200.00. And they charged $15.00 to administer shot before iui. I had a pregnancy test at lab Corp 14 days after each iui that my insurance covered a little of. I think I paid around $50.00 for each test.
I completed 3 IUIs with Dr. Whitten's office [NEvada Center for Repro Med]. Each was a clomid cycle. ... Each cycle was the same, no changes made. ... When I scheduled a plan of care with him, he knew very little about my case and when I voiced my concerns about how my case was mismanaged by the clinic, he defended practices ... He also wrote off the bad experience in that it "seemed like it was bringing up bad memories" for me of other experiences
They [Nevada Center for Repro] did the minimum necessary for testing, everything seemed scripted and not individualized. They lost test results and tried to charge me for ones that they drew wrong ... My experience with this clinic was exponentially worse due to the nursing staff. ... I marked that I had a canceled cycle, but it was never really canceled, just pointless as I had been given the wrong calendar and told to start clomid two days late.
How was your experience with Scott Whitten at Nevada Center for Reproductive Medicine?
Dr. Whitten seemed knowledgeable, but did not ever give any indication that he was up to date on the latest research, other than drug trials they were completing in their clinic. As a patient, I was concerned looking at his experience as it seemed he had done the bare minimum education and experience necessary to become an RE, no research or publications to his name. He did not indicate that his handling of my case would be very "hands off." When I scheduled a plan of care with him, he knew very little about my case and when I voiced my concerns about how my case was mismanaged by the clinic, he defended practices I know to not be the norm for medical practices as I have been in the medical community and the majority of my family members are physicians with their own practices. He also wrote off the bad experience in that it "seemed like it was bringing up bad memories" for me of other experiences (when I had compared his clinic's mishandling of my case to when I had surgery at another major hospital the day they switched from paper charts to computer charts).
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Scott Whitten at Nevada Center for Reproductive Medicine?
I would encourage Reno residents to check out other options in the Sacramento area. It seems like a waste of time, but it is much more worth it in my opinion. However, if that is not an option for whatever reason, I would suggest making a couple of demands/requests. These were the demands I would have made had I stayed with that practice: 1. to always be on the doctor's schedule (not to be sent to the nurse practitioner for care or treatments. However, I had a friend do this due to a bad experience with the nurse practitioner at this clinic and when they checked in for their IUI, they were informed that no doctors were in the office that day, so they had to either "suck it up" and deal with her again or cancel the cycle all together. 2. ONE nurse as my primary nurse. It was ridiculous calling the nurses line and getting different nurses every time. Some had issues reading my chart correctly and NONE of them made notes of our conversations, which was an issue when I had complications each month and the doctor had no idea when reviewing my chart to make recommendations.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Scott Whitten at Nevada Center for Reproductive Medicine?
Everything felt rehearsed. Nothing felt like it was individualized to me as a patient.
Describe the protocols Scott Whitten used in your cycles at Nevada Center for Reproductive Medicine and their degree of success.
I completed 3 IUIs with Dr. Whitten's office (one with him, the rest with the nurse practitioner). Each was a clomid cycle. I cannot recall the dosage. We had been trying on our own for over a year, and my testing all came back normal, so there was no indication that we needed to do anything other than IUI. Each cycle was the same, no changes made.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at Nevada Center for Reproductive Medicine.
My experience with this clinic was exponentially worse due to the nursing staff. I had an issue with luteal phase fevers. To be fair, no other doctor or clinic has been able to identify the cause or etiology of these. However, this clinic was the worst of all the clinics I saw in terms of their responsiveness. I called during my first cycle to report that I had a fever one week after the IUI. They replied that it wasn't a known issue and to take tylenol. Afterward, I realized that it was not an isolated incident and that it had been occuring every few months since we had started trying. When I reported this to the nurse practitioner at my next visit, she spent several minutes arguing with me that I didn't need to push for IVF, which I had actually not been doing and never mentioned IVF. I had only been pointing out that I felt like this was not a one-off like I thought and that I was concerned with going forward if I had a pattern of getting a fever at the exact time in which implantation should be happening. I had simply said I'd prefer to spend more money on testing on the front end rather than push through with treatments that will fail and had inquired if we had done all the testing that should be done. After several tries to get her to understand this, she had said that no, we had done all the testing (I found out later that we had not), and "if you're asking if there's a simple blood test, the answer is no." Two months and $2k later, when I presented my concerns to Dr. Whitten, he stated that it could be an issue with an antibody and "that's a simple blood test. We can pull that right here in the office." This fever issue became a sticking point and I called each month to tell them, as well as mentioning it at each office visit. It was never once noted in my chart, despite the fact that the last time I called about it, I demanded that it be noted in my chart in my message. The reply I got from that message was that we would be continuing with another cycle and that at some point, the doctor would want me to come in for an HSG. I had had one, at this clinic, and relayed this to the nurse, who replied "that's weird. Looking at your chart, it looks like you're a new patient." I canceled the cycle, which they expressed annoyance about and demanded an appointment with the doctor, who had no knowledge of the issue due to the fact they never took notes. They also drew my blood wrong at one point, billed for it on the wrong day, and tried to make me pay twice. During my second IUI, the nurse practitioner completed my calendar wrong and had me start clomid two days late.
Describe your experience with Nevada Center for Reproductive Medicine.
They may have made changes in the last few years, but I felt like it was disorganized. I had test results get lost, the woman in charge of billing was not friendly or helpful. There seemed to be a lot of turnover with the nursing staff.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Scott Whitten at Nevada Center for Reproductive Medicine.
We spent at least $1000 on testing, and at least $1000 on each IUI. None of it was covered under my insurance. I found out a year later when we went to another clinic that my insurance covered testing, just not with them. Dr. Whitten was listed on my insurance company website as being covered, but his front office denied this.

Describe the specific things that went wrong at Nevada Center for Reproductive Medicine.
I believe I discussed it all in other areas of my review. They did the minimum necessary for testing, everything seemed scripted and not individualized. They lost test results and tried to charge me for ones that they drew wrong and had to send me to get drawn again (they were not authorized to draw the antibody panel and it had to be drawn at Labcorp, but they did it anyway, then charged me for the one they drew wrong after sending me to Labcorp to draw it again). I marked that I had a canceled cycle, but it was never really canceled, just pointless as I had been given the wrong calendar and told to start clomid two days late. I only had one follicle due to this error.
I’ve only met him once, and he was very kind. I was told by my OB to go on Lupron, but Dr. Whitten understood my hesitations and recommended another course of action that felt more appropritate for me. His explanations all seem logical and not rushed at all. The only negative thing I would say is that it would be nice if he popped in for procedures as those have only been done by the PA....Long appointment time and kind demeanor. Willing to take time and answer questions
Their kind demeanor [Nevada Ctr for Repro Med] is a strength and I appreciated how much time DR. Whitten spent with me at my first appointment. Every other appointment since then has been pretty quick and I do feel slightly rushed....They’re all very kind and happy to help. I mostly meet with the PA....$250/ultrasound. $250 for IUI. $250 for sperm washing. About $1k per cycle for IUI, excl meds.

Ultrasound by day 5 of cycle to check lining. Days 3-9 is Femara. Day 10-12ish I take ovulation test at home and then around day 12 or 13 is another ultrasound to check follicles. If follicles are proper size I receive HCG trigger and come back following day for IUI procedure. After that it’s progesterone suppositories until HCG blood test. Rinse and repeat for up to 4 cycles and then we would potentially discuss other options.

Dr. Whitten and his staff were incredible throughout the entire process. He explained step by step what was happening, allowed us to consider all of our options, was aggressive enough to move forward with our treatment and listened to us when we were ready to move forward. Never once were we a person on a paper. He truly cared for our outcome as much as we did.... This is either the best or worst day for his patients and I felt every time that I was in his office tha everything possible was being done for my family.

Dr. Whitten has a manner that makes him completely trusted, he is knowledgable, kind and listens. So far, we have completed 3 IUIs with clomid [with Dr. Russell Foulk] (I believe 100 mg for 5 days) and an HSG trigger shot. All were ineffective...I felt as if Dr. Foulk rushed through telling us our diagnosis, but followed up when we reached out with questions...He is very kind...When we talked to him about IVF, it was confusing and he could have taken more time. Also, his quote was extremely off from the financial aid person.
If you have to go the IVF route [at Nevada Center for Reproductive Medicine], make an appointment with the financial aid person the same day so you get all the correct information...[nurses are] Very nice, polite and understanding...Each IUI cost approximately $1300. They could explain procedures better especially IVF so patients can make an informed decision.

Dr. Whitten was communicative and patient, humorous and gentle and honest. I never felt like a number to him....He even hosted and showed up for a monthly infertility support group locally— it was amazingly to see him coming to his patients on his own time, making sure they had a resource for processing the struggle of infertility treatment emotionally! Just above and beyond human compassion.
Everyone [Nevada Center for Reproductive Medicine] was always warm, welcoming, and encouraging. I never felt rushed or disregarded....I do have to say that the nurse liaison for egg retrieval was MUCH more involved than the nurse liaison post-transfer; she was slow to respond and offered very little information without being bugged....
