This is the most recent data from the CDC. The CDC cautions that it should not be used to compare doctors and clinics. This data represents the outcomes of IVF cycles when using a person's own eggs.
For more information please see our FAQs.
Where you see a “?” on the chart, a clinic has done fewer than 20 cycles in this category and age range, so the CDC says showing percentages from this small data set would be misleading and unreliable.

Describe the protocols Gad Lavy used in your cycles at New England Fertility Institute and their degree of success.
Prior to the egg retrieval, I was taking Estradiol and Prometrium pills, then Follistim, Ganirelix, and Menopur injections. I produced 31 eggs, and 21 embryos resulted. Due to hyperstimulation, my 12 eligible embryos were frozen, and a transfer was done my next cycle. During this period, I took daily injections of Leuprolide, Estradiol pills, and Progesterone suppositories. A few days prior to my embryo transfer, I discontinued Leuprolide and began every other day with Progesterone injections. One week post transfer, HCG was detected from a blood test. I am awaiting two week blood test for pregnancy results.

Dr. Lavy has a calm and serious demeanor. He is also very thoughtful before he moves forward with procedures. He speaks very matter of factly and explains things in a way that is easy to understand. ...He explained that he felt that my body didn't respond as well as he had hoped to Clomid. At this time, he was also sure to explain that injectable fertility drugs would increase my chances of conceiving multiples. After taking fertility drugs for my second cycle, I conceived our twins.
Every person who works there [New Eng Fertility ] makes an effort to get to know you and makes you feel cared for. I had pleasant interactions with everyone there. The people who work at NEFI are professional, competent, and compassionate. If for some reason you find the larger metal speculums uncomfortable, I would suggest that you request a smaller size to make certain procedures more comfortable for you.

Dr. Lavy has a calm and serious demeanor. He is also very thoughtful before he moves forward with procedures. He speaks very matter of factly and explains things in a way that is easy to understand. When my hysterosalpingogram (HSG) results were inconclusive, he explained to me the next procedure I would need and why. Once that procedure also came back inconclusive, he talked to me about why he believed I should use Clomid for my first IUI. I only tried Clomid for one cycle before he suggested that I use injectable fertility drugs. He explained that he felt that my body didn't respond as well as he had hoped to Clomid. At this time, he was also sure to explain that injectable fertility drugs would increase my chances of conceiving multiples. After taking fertility drugs for my second cycle, I conceived our twins.

Describe the costs associated with your care under Gad Lavy at New England Fertility Institute.
Because Dr. Lavy was a participating provider in our health plan at the time, we just had to pay co-pays for our visits. However, most of our fertility drugs were not covered, and we had to pay out-of-pocket for most of those. That being said, NEFI gave us the names of some pharmacies that offered us discounts on certain fertility drugs.
She [Dr. Browne] is willing to do untested multiple embryo transfer as well as up to two tested embryos...Her bedside manner is so compassionate. She takes to time to throughly explain things. She also is helpful in providing great articles to read. She has been my biggest cheerleader while setting realistic expectations...She is clear and focused. She always seems as committed as the first time I met her to help me have a child. It seems as though it is truly her life’s work. She explains all the risks. And is willing to shift when new information arises in my treatment.
They [staff at New England Fertility Center] don’t communicate well with one another. And the finance department is a bit chilly in their responses. But they are tech savvy and their portal works well. Some of the nurses are very very compassionate. When things are trying they are encouraging. Their billing is wacky and it seems as though they don’t always keep track of when and what they are charging.

Describe the specific things that went wrong at New England Fertility Institute.
On one of my protocols they gave me conflicting information as to the timing of my trigger shot. My doctor said one thing. But the nurse told me something else which caused me to ovulate early and my cycle was not successful.
Also they couldn’t remember if they billed me for certain procedures..
He's [Dr. Gad Lavy] straight to the point, doesn't mince words, and was upfront with us on every aspect of our surrogacy process. We even went as far as pushing back on a surrogacy match because she didn't want to be seen by a male doctor - but we picked Dr. Lavy for his expertise so that was a non-negotiable. That's how much trust we have in him...He took the time to go through absolutely everything with my husband and I -even going as far as giving us his cell phone number in case we needed to reach him
[New England Fertility Institute] Strengths - extremely kind, knowledgeable and to the point. They will work with you to make sure that everything is done right, even if it takes time. Weaknesses - only having one doctor makes scheduling a bit tight...Shantai was our coordinator - she took us under her wing from day 1 of signing on and stayed with us all the way through embryo maturation at Day 5 - we loved her!

She [Dr. Browne] offered me her personal cell phone and would text me with results.she was also very caring.... She is a wonderful doctor with great bedside manner. She is great with women with diminished ovarian reserve and truly did what other doctors couldn’t do. I haven’t had success yet, but she did get me to respond to medications, which was much more than others could!... I did not benefit from the high dose protocols ( menopur, ganirelix) but did for low dose!
New England Fertility is very expensive for the out-of-pocket patient. The office is beautiful and clean/ the lady who takes blood is very nice and personable. The procedures are very organized! I highly recommend Dr. Browne for individualized attention.... I preferred to work with my doctor as much as possible, as the nurses weren’t very warm.... I believe one cycle without medications is around $17,000

Overall excellent. He explained thing clearly. He really understood the gestational carrier process and when things Weren’t going as expected I felt very confident that he really thought about why and what to do neXt... As a physician myself sometimes I wanted to know more about the potential bad outcomes but I think for most his Level of optimism would be perfect His experience w gestational carriers was really helpful and he trained his staff very well
Organized and efficient. Nice facilities [New Eng Fertility- Stamford]. Occasionally had to push for sooner procedure dates because I was able to think more creatively about how to make it work-then they would always accomodate. The billing was easy-out of pocket but straightforward. One very small pharmacy miscommunication occurred and they paid for the extra meds... The coordinator and nurse were excellent. Very responsive by phone and email and clearly reached out to dr. Lavy when appropriate

Personable, good bedside manner. Felt very comfortable under his [Dr. Lavy] care, always answered questions and put my mind at ease....I met with Dr. Levy for a consultation after taking a six month break from the fertility madness. My husband and I were impressed with him from the get go. I felt like he listened to me and to what I felt was not working from my previous experience. He gave me his opinion on what should be the next steps and together I felt like we established a clear plan of attack to move forward with. In the end, the collaborative plan was successful.

Personable, good bedside manner. Felt very comfortable under his care, always answered questions and put my mind at ease. I was previously under the care of another top fertility clinic in the Stamford/Norwalk area for almost two years. I left that practice because I felt like I was being pumped with hormones and that there was no clear plan or strategy with regard to my fertility issues. We didn't see Dr. Lavy (personally) every visit, in fact I'm not sure we saw him even once a cycle (but maybe we did - it was awhile ago). That said, his nurses were exceptional, and I never once wished that we were seeing him instead of the nurses... I know that he was heavily involved in our care, even when the nurses carried out the procedures.

That said, his nurses were exceptional, and I never once wished that we were seeing him instead of the nurses. I had 100% confidence in them. When we did see him, he was warm and kind (although quiet and perhaps introverted) and had a very calm energy. I know that every time any decisions were made about a cycle, that he had been the decision-maker in a detailed meeting involving all of the individuals who were caring for us. The nurses shared the information that came out of those meetings with us, and let us know when they were scheduled to occur, so I know that he was heavily involved in our care, even when the nurses carried out the procedures.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Gad Lavy at New England Fertility Institute?
I felt that the staff (from the receptionists to the phlebotomists to the radiologists to the nurses to the doctor himself) knew our names (both mine and my wife's) and treated us warmly every time we called or visited. They were compassionate about our care, truly seemed disappointed for us when a cycle was not successful, and were gentle with the care and recommendations. They respected our opinions, fears, concerns and desires.
Describe the protocols Gad Lavy used in your cycles at New England Fertility Institute and their degree of success.
Because we are a lesbian couple with no known fertility issues, we did not want to start with fertility drugs if we could avoid it. I went through a routine "test cycle" during which they monitored me and checked baselines, and did a HSG to test whether my Fallopian tubes were clear. It did not appear that I had any problems, so they allowed me to go through three IUI cycles without drugs. They didn't actually recommend this, and encouraged us to try Clomid, but they respected our wishes and allowed us to go through with it. Once we'd completed three cycles without success, we agreed to try Clomid. I believe I went through two IUI cycles using Clomid, and they told me that they did not feel I was responding to it, and they recommended Folistim (injectibles). I did that for a few cycles, at least one of which resulted in overstimulation, and they refused to do the IUI for fear of super multiples. In all, I had 7 complete IUI procedures over the course of 10 months (one of those off months was the overstimulation month, and I don't honestly remember why we skipped the other months, there may have been months when we simply needed an emotional break). My only positive pregnancy test was the last cycle, which was with Follistim and a trigger injection, and I became pregnant with my son, a healthy singleton. All of my IUI cycles involved two days of back-to-back IUI. That said, I believe now they may time them differently (my wife went through it and they spaced hers one day apart).

She was very honest, very transparent, but also very compassionate and kind. She knew when to be very direct and when to be gentle. She got to know us well and we felt she truly cared, but she was also no-nonsense when it was called for. We trusted her completely.
