Attention to Detail

Attention to detail is on a 1 - 10 scale, and is scored based on the rate, and severity, of errors committed by the clinic according to the patients.

For example, a severe error might be failing to inform a patient of critical information, while a small error might be failing to call a patient with results.

CDC Success Rates

This is the most recent data from the CDC. The CDC cautions that it should not be used to compare doctors and clinics. This data represents the outcomes of IVF cycles when using a person's own eggs.

For more information please see our FAQs.

Where you see a “?” on the chart, a clinic has done fewer than 20 cycles in this category and age range, so the CDC says showing percentages from this small data set would be misleading and unreliable.

With unwavering dedication, he has ensured that we are well-informed about every procedure and diagnosis, addressing all our questions and concerns. His remarkable ability to remember our individual circumstances and set personalized goals, adapting as necessary, makes him an exemplary, hands-on, and gentle healthcare professional.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Scot Hutchison at Reproductive Health Center (closed)?
Approach the journey with an open mind, embrace all feedback, and recognize that it's a gradual process that requires time and patience. Dr. Hutchinson will be your guiding light on this path, leading you to your destination.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Scot Hutchison at Reproductive Health Center (closed)?
I truly felt heard and deeply understood throughout this challenging process. Dr. Hutchison tailored my procedures and protocols specifically to my needs, ensuring that I was thoroughly educated every step of the way. Not a single one of my questions was dismissed or deemed insignificant; instead, I felt entirely at ease and appreciated the opportunity to progress at a pace that felt comfortable and natural to me, never rushed or delayed.
Describe the protocols Scot Hutchison used in your cycles at Reproductive Health Center (closed) and their degree of success.
Dr. Hutchison embarked on my medical journey with an initial consultation, diligently reviewing my medical history and suggesting the possibility of PCOS. He proceeded to craft a comprehensive plan for a healthier lifestyle, encompassing dietary choices, exercise routines, and even offering insightful recommendations, such as selecting specific food products. Subsequently, he conducted a series of diagnostic tests, including lab work and a vaginal ultrasound, which confirmed the presence of PCOS. Dr. Hutchison elaborated on the diagnosis, followed by an HSG procedure. Unfortunately, the HSG results were inconclusive, indicating partial blockage on one side and no obstruction on the other. A subsequent attempt at this test yielded no progress. Dr. Hutchison concluded that I had blocked tubes in addition to PCOS and ovulation issues, necessitating the pursuit of IVF. His compassionate and patient demeanor allowed us the time to come to terms with this life-altering news. After some time, when we were ready, we initiated the IVF process within weeks. Dr. Hutchison, along with our dedicated team, provided thorough explanations of the treatment protocol, including detailed instructions for injections. Given my inability to ovulate naturally, I began with birth control. Regrettably, the first IVF cycle was canceled due to ovarian hyperstimulation, prompting adjustments to my medication regimen and continued monitoring. 2 more IVF attempts were similarly thwarted by persistently elevated hormone levels and a Hemorrhagic ovary resulting from the hyperstimulation. On the fourth attempt, Dr. Hutchison adjusted my medication dosage and closely monitored my hormone levels to ensure success. At retrieval, 15 eggs were collected, of which five matured and were frozen. During the transfer, we held onto hope, with an early positive pregnancy test at 4DPT. However, at our initial ultrasound, a heartbeat was visible but not audible. In subsequent appointments, no heartbeat was detected, and Dr. Hutchison's compassion shone through as he sensitively explained the impending miscarriage. He offered invaluable information and guidance to prepare me for what lay ahead. During the challenging period of miscarriage, I encountered significant bleeding and reached out to Dr. Hutchison at 1 am, who promptly provided advice and referred me to a specialized hospital. Dr. Hutchison continued to exhibit kindness and patience as he allowed me the time to grieve before preparing for my next transfer when I was emotionally ready. I now stand prepared to embark on my next treatment protocol, having initiated birth control to pave the way for my upcoming cycle in a few weeks.
Describe your experience with your nurse at Reproductive Health Center (closed). (Assigned nurse: Kinlee Osmer)
Kinlee consistently excels in her role by designing and thoroughly explaining the treatment protocols I'm about to embark upon. She ensures that I have a profound understanding of the procedures and the necessary medications. Additionally, the other nurses have also been exceptional in making me feel at ease in what can often be uncomfortable situations. Their warmth, sense of humor, and genuine care and empathy have made a significant difference in my experience. I must also extend my heartfelt appreciation to the exceptional front office team. Carol and Milissa consistently provide a warm and welcoming presence when I walk in, and their professionalism and efficiency shine through when I call the clinic. They are consistently reliable in relaying messages and ensuring I receive prompt responses. Their dedication and excellent communication skills make them invaluable members of the team. Throughout my journey with RHC, the staff has continued to expand, but every new addition has seamlessly integrated into the team. They all remember my unique circumstances and the stories I share, making them not only personable but also highly informative and passionate about their work. Their dedication and love for what they do shine through, creating a truly supportive and educational environment.

Describe the costs associated with your care under Scot Hutchison at Reproductive Health Center (closed).
I've been fortunate to have excellent insurance coverage during my care under Dr. Hutchison. I consistently paid a $25 co-pay for each of my visits. Over the course of my time at RHC, my insurance has been exceptionally beneficial, covering more than $50,000 in costs, including expenses for medications. This year, I reached my out-of-pocket (OOP) cost limit, which means that all medical expenses will be covered for the remainder of the year. In total, I've paid approximately $5,000 this year, which has gone towards multiple rounds of retrieval attempts, embryo storage and freezing, one transfer, and anesthesia. My insurance has played a significant role in making my treatment costs manageable, which has been a considerable relief during this process.
Describe Scot Hutchison's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Reproductive Health Center (closed).
We engaged in a thoughtful discussion with Dr. Hutchinson regarding the possibility of implanting multiple embryos, as my interest leaned towards a multiple pregnancy. Dr. Hutchinson provided us with a comprehensive education on the associated risks and benefits of both single and multiple embryo implantation. He presented us with clear statistics, outlining the percentage chances and potential outcomes for each option, ultimately entrusting the decision to us as a couple. After careful consideration, we chose to proceed with the implantation of a single embryo.

Describe the specific things that went wrong at Reproductive Health Center (closed).
On rare occasions, there might be a slight communication lapse where patients do not receive a phone call with their test results. Nevertheless, it's important to note that the clinic compensates for this by consistently making results available online. This means you can access your results conveniently through the clinic's online platform, ensuring that you have easy access to your medical information.

I would appreciate more candor with stats upfront [from Dr. Hutchinson]- for example, at my age, what are my odds per month of natural conception? After all my tests are completed, what was the next step - next 3 months, next 6 months, etc? Especially as a patient of 'advanced maternal age' I need more clarity around things. I felt like I needed to be proactive in asking what the plan was for addressing some of the things that the tests brought up...
I would like there to be more coordination between the time a chart is uploaded and someone [from Reproductive Health Center] calls me to go over the results, next steps laid out very clearly on a timeline to avoid frustration/passivity, and building a path together from the beginning...I would have liked to be assigned a nurse or someone consistent. I think they are nice, but maybe a little bit tired sometimes on the phone. Feel like I'm annoying them with all my questions sometimes. During procedures, though, I found them very accomodating and sincere.

I would have appreciated an intake form that dove deeper into stuff like - are you wanting more intervention or less? Etc. More help in designing a plan together to ease anxiety and pressure.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Scot Hutchison at Reproductive Health Center (closed)?
Be proactive and you'll need to do some research on the side. When you get test results back about your follicle count and hormone levels etc, there will not be a detailed explanation, just a quick phone call from a nurse, and no concrete plan of what is next. It's a bit passive. So, while the staff are caring and kind, you need to stay on top of calling and sending messages to get clarity.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Scot Hutchison at Reproductive Health Center (closed)?
I appreciate the care and medication given for pain before a procedure. However, I sometimes desired to know what the 'plan' was, rather than just left hanging. I need to be proactive with the care here. It's up to me to ask what the next step is in treatment.
Describe the protocols Scot Hutchison used in your cycles at Reproductive Health Center (closed) and their degree of success.
I was given Valium for the discomfort around an HSG procedure which I very much appreciated. Once it was discovered that I had a cervix that has some scar tissue, I went in after my menstrual cycle started for dilation to encourage more sperm to enter my womb. We have been encouraged from the jump to adjust our diets and take some supplements and live a healthy lifestyle, which I appreciated.

I'm not sure why they didn't test all of my hormones (including testosterone) to get a complete picture of my hormones. In 2023, we can google things and learn about how other clinics treat certain conditions (like diminished reserve) etc. I also would like to know percentages of conception during the very first meeting with the doctor. More direct information based on the picture at hand, with even more accurate information and a 30,000 level view that is communicated once testing has been completed.

[Dr. Scot Hutchison] is passionate about what he does...I have PCOS...will tell you what the latest research is...strong focus on lifestyle and how your everyday decisions can impact the outcome...asked me about my lifestyle, he tailored his advice to me...didn’t sugar coat it...doing the injections until the end of my 1st trimester
The communication [at Reproductive Health Center] was strong, I had clear protocols written out and if I had any questions or concerns, I was able to get in touch with nursing team right away. I would say the one thing that wasn’t smooth was billing but that’s since been modified and seems to be working more efficiently.
How was your experience with Scot Hutchison at Reproductive Health Center (closed)?
I came to the office knowing that I was in good hands with Dr Hutchison as several of my friends and acquaintances had had successful transfers with him. I didn’t know what to expect, what made him successful in his work but what became clear after meeting him was that he is passionate about what he does. He will tell you what the latest research is and has a strong focus on lifestyle and how your everyday decisions can impact the outcome. He asked me about my lifestyle, he tailored his advice to me and made it clear what changes I needed to make. He didn’t sugar coat it for me and I appreciate his direct approach.

Describe the protocols Scot Hutchison used in your cycles at Reproductive Health Center (closed) and their degree of success.
I was advised to initially cut back on sugars, carbohydrates, alcohol - all things that are not good for me especially since I have PCOS. Prior to the transfer, I was taking estradiol tablets 3x day for 10 days then went in for an ultrasound and blood test, then started progesterone injections and capsules 6 days before the transfer. I was doing the injections until the end of my 1st trimester. I took an antibiotic and prednisone a few days before the transfer and a few days after.
Describe your experience with your nurse at Reproductive Health Center (closed). (Assigned nurse: Holly Hutchison )
Everyone was clearly passionate about what they do. They answered any questions I had thoroughly with so much care and attention to detail. They made me feel understood that it can be a daunting process but at the same time made me relax and feel like I was in the best hands.

Retrieval, transfer, genetic testing, storage fees
Describe Scot Hutchison's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Reproductive Health Center (closed).
We only ever discussed an eSET and I didn’t feel the need to ask about multiple embryo transfer, especially since we had done the genetic testing on our embryos. I had faith that one would be enough.

After trying to conceive naturally for six months, my gynecologist referred us to REI due in part to a disorder I carry. My husband and I are planning to utilize IVF and ICSI along with PGT-M. The main reason for this is due to the fact that I was born with a rare genetic disorder called Neurofibromatosis Type I. NF1 is a serious illness and can be life-threatening and it almost in fact killed me last year. NF1 causes tumors to grow on nerve endings and tissues. If we were to conceive naturally, I would stand a 50% chance of passing on the chromosomal mutation for NF1 to our child. Having gone through what I went through, I never want anyone else to go through that. So, to give our child the very best chance at a quality life we have chosen to utilize PGT-M. We chose ICSI as we also have some male factor fertility concerns as my husband has been diagnosed with abnormal semen morphology (Probably due to his time in military service). Upon my first appt with Dr. Hutchinson, ordered genetic testing so the lab may be able to find the genetic marker for the NF1 on my genes and then develop a test for it so that they can then test my embryos. On my second appt Dr. Hutchinson confirmed my diagnosis of uterine fibroids and cautioned the dangers of conceiving prior to having them removed. I had been told by previous doctors that my fibroids would not make a difference and I even had one Doctor at a different clinic laugh in my face when I told him this was the information my surgeon gave me. Dr. Hutchinson was the only doctor to educate me on the risk and to recommend removal. I am due for a visit with him to continue treatment after my uterine fibroid removal.

[Dr. Scot Hutchison] is the most caring and warm doctor I’ve ever met...made me feel like my questions/ concerns were valid and addressed them...Our first appointment was so thorough and he really helped me understand the treatment plan. He is so knowledgeable and made me feel hopeful for the future under his care...past of multiple miscarriages and prescribed me progesterone right away...appreciated that he not only addressed the present concerns but also possible future concerns
The clinic is amazing overall! Everything I’ve described already contributes to the experience and quality of the clinic! I also loved that when I went in for my appointment I was taken back to the room really quickly, after that the wait was only maybe 20 minutes before I was seen by the doctor and nurse. I appreciate that they value my time...all so sweet and compassionate...Whenever I send a message to the nurse I hear back that day

I appreciated the evidence based practice and research he [Scot Hutchison] provided with his recommendations on treatment plan...He is big on Mediterranean diet which can be seen as a con, but he was great to explain why this was beneficial and provided research articles as well. I appreciated that he had supportive material behind his suggestions...We did not make it to embryo transfer, but he does prefer single embro transfer due to risk of complications with multiples pregnancy.
[Reproductive Health Center] Worked cohesively as a team and great communication. I saw them during the beginning of covid and did not feel this hindered my care. They are open on weekends including procedures. I appreciated that these were also done in clinic. I was so fortunate that they had alternatives for medication assistance as insurance did not cover this for me.

We did one egg retrieval with Dr. Hutchison which unfortunately did not result in any embryos. For stims, we did gonal-f with trigger. He explained from the get go that he did not do fresh embryo transfers as research showed better success rates when your uterus has time to heal following retrieval.

Worked cohesively as a team and great communication. I saw them during the beginning of covid and did not feel this hindered my care. They are open on weekends including procedures. I appreciated that these were also done in clinic. I was so fortunate that they had alternatives for medication assistance as insurance did not cover this for me.
Describe your experience with your monitoring appointments at Reproductive Health Center (closed).
I was able to get in same day on short notice when needed.
Describe Scot Hutchison's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Reproductive Health Center (closed).
We did not make it to embryo transfer, but he does prefer single embro transfer due to risk of complications with multiples pregnancy.

Dr. Hutchison is very knowledgeable and upfront about expectations...He was kind and compassionate at every visit and made me feel comfortable about the treatment...Don't be discouraged by how upfront he is about expectations. I think he just doesn't want people to have false expectations and then be disappointed...prefers single embryo transfer
everyone works together [at Reproductive Health Center] to provide great patient care. You feel at ease from the minute you walk through the door. Carol, the receptionist is kind and always greets you by your name. I've had a great experience with everyone there...Holly was great at communicating the egg retrieval protocols and being available to answer any questions. She is very knowledgeable and kind

Dr. Hutchison was very upfront about expectations for treatment outcomes at my age. He was warm and caring. Him together with Holly make a great team.
Describe the protocols Scot Hutchison used in your cycles at Reproductive Health Center (closed) and their degree of success.
I was give Clomid (100mg) for 5 days along with Follistim (150IU) twice a day for 10 days. I started Ganirelix(250mcg) on day 5 to prevent ovulation. And trigger with hCG and Lupron on day 10. There was 3 eggs retrieved on this cycle. 1 was fertilized and grew to a blastocyst and was frozen. Genetic testing was abnormal for this embryo. The second cycle we added Omnitrope but unfortunately the cycle had to be canceled because I was not responding and my eggs were not growing and estradiol levels were not changing by day 5.

How was your experience with Scot Hutchison at Reproductive Health Center (closed)?
Dr. Hutchison took the time to review my history and get to know me before we began. He humanized the experience and made me feel hopeful. He explained all the details of the IVF process and why he wanted me to change my diet, take additional supplements and provide more blood work. He was so compassionate about my four miscarriages and helped me understand why IVF might be the best option, given my circumstances. But he and Holly Hutchison did not make me feel like I was just another procedure. The whole experience thus far has been informative to where I feel in control of my health and wellness moving forward. I am grateful for the expertise of Dr. Scot Hutchison and will trust him with helping my husband and I grow our family. I don't know if I can do this without IVF, but this pandemic is making it very challenging. I was just about to start the process and everything came to a screeching halt. However, Dr. Hutchison and Holly Hutchison have made me feel as if my journey is not over and I am thankful for their support.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Scot Hutchison at Reproductive Health Center (closed)?
Be detailed and truthful about your full fertility picture so Dr. Hutchison can take everything into account and provide the best care possible. He is so knowledgeable and provides ways to help and support fertility from all aspects.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Scot Hutchison at Reproductive Health Center (closed)?
My first fertility center had too much turnover. I was scheduled with three different doctors in three months. The third doctor never unpacked his office boxes and the experience just felt cold. Dr. Hutchison was the second fertility center I went to and will review him and his staff for the purposes of this review. The reason I switched center's was for a second opinion and stability. Dr. Hutchison and his team were a BREATH OF FRESH AIR! From the moment I called to schedule my appointment, to the consult with Dr. Hutchison, to the appointment with the phlebotomist, I felt welcomed by all. When I spoke with Dr. Hutchison, our appointment was telephonic with him, my husband and I. The COVID-19 restrictions had just gone into play and we were having our first consult. His staff retrieved my prior medical records from my other center and it was evident Dr. Hutchison reviewed everything prior to our consult. He was knowledgeable about my history and showed an immense amount of compassion and willingness to help our family overcome our fertility battle. We spent about an hour together and it was as if I knew him forever, that's how comfortable he made me feel. Holly Hutchison, his sister and staff, was equally amazing. She spent over an hour with my husband and I talking us through the whole process of IVF and what that may look like, both emotionally and financially. She too was compassionate and I felt like she understood our financial concerns. She and Dr. Hutchison returned my calls and answered my questions and concerns in a timely fashion. Working with Reproductive Health Center has made me feel human again. My last center made me feel like I was just another procedure.
Describe the protocols Scot Hutchison used in your cycles at Reproductive Health Center (closed) and their degree of success.
Dr. Scot Hutchison and I had not gotten that far yet. We are currently working on diagnostics so he can get a better picture of my health, wellness and fertility to create a protocol for me.
Describe your experience with your nurse at Reproductive Health Center (closed). (Assigned nurse: Holly Hutchison)
Holly Hutchison is just as amazing as her brother, Dr. Hutchison. After my initial consult with Dr. Hutchison, I was scheduled with Holly the following week. We spoke over the phone for almost an hour. She was so caring and kind in how she spoke. She helped me understand the emotional and financials that go along with the IVF process. She gave me wonderful information about my health and numbers that gave me a glimpse of hope that I will one day hold my second and last baby someday. Holly returned my calls and emails very quickly and she also took the time to get to know me and my fertility journey. I am grateful I found Reproductive Health Center as a second opinion and to treat me on my upcoming fertility journey. I have had five pregnancies and one healthy baby girl, so this hasn't been an easy journey. I am confident Holly and Dr. Scot Hutchison have the expertise to take me over the finish line in our next step to conceive.
Describe your experience with Reproductive Health Center (closed).
Due to the COVID-19 clinic, most of my appointments have been telephonic. Of the one time I have been at the clinic it was clean, comfortable and welcoming. The staff took all precautions necessary to get me in and out of the clinic safely and healthy. I am proud to attend a clinic that takes the health of their staff and patients seriously and are working together as a team to help patients feel like things are progressing.

Describe Scot Hutchison's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Reproductive Health Center (closed).
We discussed the pros and cons of transferring a single embryo vs multiple embryo's and I am supportive of Dr. Scot Hutchison's approach. This will be something we will likely talk about again as we get closer to the transfer stage.

Dr. Hutchison always makes me feel valued as a patient and offers genuine interest in getting to know both myself and my husband. I can tell he shares my disappointment with each failed cycle and celebrates when we have successes...I started with femara because Dr H said research has shown it to be more effective in pcos patients. Protocols ranged from 5mg/day for 7-10 days with or without an HCG trigger shot depending on if a safe number of follicles were present (2 or less)
Nursing staff is very sweet during visits but pretty unorganized with follow up care...IUI cycle with HCG trigger was around $600...Pro— it [Reproductive Health Center] is a small clinic so you know who you are going to see every time and get to know the staff really well which I like. Con— if you have an afternoon appt you can almost guarantee things will be running behind schedule. This is mostly because the doctor likes to spend time with each patient answering questions so it’s also kind of a pro.

Nursing staff is very sweet during visits but pretty unorganized with follow up care. Upon finding out I needed a D&C I had to call back twice to get final surgery schedule information rather than them reaching out to me. It was frustrating to not feel like they were prioritizing me in such a vulnerable time.

Dr. Hutchison challenges you to change your lifestyle - mostly focusing on diet. He has high expectations for what you eat and drink and this can be hard to hear and even harder to adjust to. However, it made me feel motivated to improve...He never shoots me down and always takes as long as necessary to explain things in great detail...he spent almost two hours with us. He explained all future options and did a diagnostic work-up. We never felt rushed to leave and he would go into great detail about data and studies - he is like a living encyclopedia of fertility information! He usually has another doctor shadowing him and he explains procedures to the patient and the shadowing doctor. There were times during my IUI that I was concerned about the timing of the procedure and he worked with me to make sure I felt comfortable. He called me back personally to answer questions I had about research I had done or random side effects I was having due to the medicine. We are currently going through our first cycle of IVF with Dr. Hutchison and Holly - the clinic has gone above and beyond making us feel taken care of and we know they are doing everything possible to keep it affordable for us. They feel like family at this point.
Pamela and Katerina [nurses at Reproductive Health Center] are wonderful - incredibly friendly and kind...The IUI with Dr. Scot Hutchison was around $650 per cycle. IVF will most likely be around $10,000 for procedure and medication...I can always get through to Carol at the front desk. I receive a call back within hours if I leave a message and it is either Carol or Dr. Hutchison who calls me depending on what I need. Now that we have begun our IVF journey we are in touch with Holly and Conchita on a regular basis. This clinic gives you hope during one of the most difficult journeys of your life.

Dr. Hutchison is a holistic doctor - he saw me for everything that I am, not just my reproductive system. He pushes my husband and I to live a healthy lifestyle and manage our stress as well as does everything possible to help us conceive. He never forced any treatment upon us or made us feel like we didn't have options. The most amazing thing is that Dr. Hutchison personally calls me back when I have questions about ANYTHING. He never shoots me down and always takes as long as necessary to explain things in great detail.

With a former doctor I did four rounds of clomid. Everything looked perfect but we did not conceive. With Dr. Hutchison we performed three rounds of IUI. He put me on letrozole because it does not thin the uterine lining, which clomid can do in some women. I did a trigger shot before my cycles. He monitored me closely and was always at every appointment. We did not conceive with any of the cycles.

We looked at another clinic before choosing Dr. Hutchison. At the other clinic we could never even get through to the front desk. We would leave messages and days would pass before we got a response - and the response would usually be from a medical assistant who was not familiar with our case. THIS IS NOT WHAT IT IS LIKE AT REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH CENTER!!! They are AMAZING! I can always get through to Carol at the front desk. Dr. Hutchison and Holly only recommend single embryo transfer. I am unaware of if they will do multiple embryo transfer if you are adamant about it, but they have very strong opinions about single embryo transfer and only recommend that option.

Very down-to-earth, easy to talk to. [Dr. Hutchinson] Did not sugar coat, but also took time to ask meaningful questions and ensure that we understood. Was also very realistic about the types of tests/procedures we could choose from, their cost, and giving us time to decide. He also wanted to know about our lives - careers, hobbies, pets, family, etc. And he remembers the details - it doesn't matter if it's been 2 days or 2 weeks since he's seen you, he'll ask about your spouse/pet/job
Can't really think of any weaknesses (yet).... Everyone [at Reproductive Health Ctr] is easy to connect with and ask questions about - and they're amazingly flexible when you need an ultrasound on a Saturday or Sunday morning!... There was a confusion about which pharmacy to send a prescription to - and then the pharmacy didn't bother to call the clinic back. I blame the pharmacy more than the clinic! And it didn't impact the cycle, so it wasn't a big deal.

Actually went to see Dr. H on recommendation of a friend who'd had success with IUI under his care. I immediately felt at ease talking to Dr. H. He also took time to discuss all the terminology with both me and my husband. He doesn't rush through appointments and is always willing to follow up.

Deep breath - he is very approachable! Be prepared with any and all questions about your history, lifestyle, treatment options...anything! He's also very willing to discuss any articles you've read or studies you've seen. He likes to provide patients with as much knowledge as possible.

We started with IUI because our primary problem is male factor. We've done 2 cycles so far (travel + COVID have interrupted more cycles) - and each cycle has been adjusted just a tiny bit for timing. Dr. H and his sister Dr. Holly are available via cell phone if a trigger has to be done on a weekend. My husband and I were able to get pregnant naturally once (miscarriage), so Dr. H felt that doing a few rounds of IUI would be worth it.

Always available via phone for questions/clarifications. Very kind - not at all harsh or overbearing. Everyone at the clinic is kind and compassionate.

Can't really think of any weaknesses (yet). Still in progress of working with Dr. H, so hopeful that we will have good results soon! Had been to another clinic that felt very sterile, and this clinic does not feel that way at all. Feels more like going to my primary care office. Everyone is easy to connect with and ask questions about - and they're amazingly flexible when you need an ultrasound on a Saturday or Sunday morning!

So far for consults/ultrasounds, we haven't paid much out of pocket. Our insurance has covered the bulk of those. Same with routine labs. For IUI, the primary cost was for the lab use for washing the sample.

Dr. Hutchison from the very start had dietary and supplemental suggestions for a better outcome on my upcoming egg retrievals. ... Dr. Hutchison was candid, encouraging, supportive and amazing. ... On the first retrieval, I wasn't so strict with my diet, but on the second, I did cut out a lot of alcohol and sugar, also increasing some of the hormonal injections (as a result of my initial egg retrieval). On the second retrieval I did have significantly more eggs, and I believe all of them were viable and frozen.
Every member of Scot's [Hutchinson] staff [at Repro Health Center] was kind, friendly, and able to discuss my treatment in a way that made sense. ... Dr. Hutchison was candid, encouraging, supportive and amazing. I had no issues with the treatment at all, and his staff was great at assisting me on injecting necessary shots for hormonal treatment, and on-call for any issues or confusion on my part. When I left I felt like I was leaving family members and it was worlds better and different than the doctors I consulted with in New York City. I have already recommended to several of my friends to go to Tucson to get egg retrievals done..

Strengths: Very personal, kind - great bedside manor, sense of humor, and excellent with injections. Weaknesses: communication on very rare occasions can be a little off, so just check in with the staff to be sure you understand exactly how much of each medication you'll need. I was confused because I'm generally not great at this sort of thing, son I'm sure the fault was mostly mine in terms of confusion, but I would suggest that you get it all straight so you don't run into issues down the road!
Describe the costs associated with your care under Scot Hutchison at Reproductive Health Center (closed).
I was blown away by the affordability of the procedure. It was one-third the cost of what it would have been in New York City where I live. They also assisted me in buying the necessary injections at a much more affordable price in addition to the procedure itself costing (again) a fraction of what it would have in most other places I've read about and where I live during a large part of the year! For the level of care and treatment at this price I'm still a bit in disbelief.

I couldn’t believe the time he took with me during my initial consultation. He sat with me for 2 1/2 hours and answered all of my questions after a thorough evaluation. I have never met a doctor who has taken so much time with each patient. ... We completed one IUI cycle with this doctor. We were given Femara. ... We had an excellent experience with this doctor. We saw him in order to get a second opinion and we are so glad we did.
The space [Reproductive Health Center] is peaceful, beautifully decorated, and most importantly clean. There is definitely a communication between the doctor, nurses, and staff. The front desk staff were always aware of what was going on with my case. ... The nurse I interacted with was knowledgeable and caring. ... The cost for an IVF cycle was around 9,000 without medications. The IUI was around $600.

We had an excellent experience with this doctor. We saw him in order to get a second opinion and we are so glad we did. He is thorough, knowledgeable, and honest in his practice. Describe the protocols Scot Hutchison used in your cycles at Reproductive Health Center (closed) and their degree of success.
We completed one IUI cycle with this doctor. We were given Femara. In previous cycles with a different doctor, I had used Clomid and had very bad reactions to the medication. So I am glad he prescribed Femara. The IUI resulted in a negative pregnancy test.

Describe Scot Hutchison's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Reproductive Health Center (closed).
Dr. Hutchison’s methods involve careful testing and evaluation of embryos to ensure you’re transferring the embryos with the highest likelihood of leading to a pregnancy. He only transfers one at a time because each embryo is tested and is more likely to result in a pregnancy. He also wants to reduce the risks that come with carrying multiples. I appreciate his approach.

We have done 8 IUI's [with Dr. Hutchison]...We became pregnant on our 4th and 5th IUI, but both ended in miscarriage. Dr. Hutchison felt trying a few more IUI's might be benificial, before moving on to IVF...is very warm ad welcoming...Sometimes I feel that Dr. Hutchison does not plan treatments based on individual needs, but rather a set protocol he uses for everyone...He explains things well.
IUI is around $500-600. Ovidrel injection $100 [at Reproductive Health Center]...Overall, I really like the clinic. Prescriptions are always at the pharmacy when I need them to be. Everyone is easy to get in touch with. They call back when they say they will. They seem to be organized and have a system that works. They are also very accommodating with appointments...staff remembers you and genuinely wishes you the best.
How was your experience with Scot Hutchison at Reproductive Health Center (closed)?
Dr. Hutchison has a warm bedside manner. He almost always runs on time. He explains things well. He personally calls after hours and on the weekends with results, which is nice. He is knowledgeable and seems to stay up to date on recent studies. The only time I have been disappointed with our communication was after my miscarriages. I felt left in the dark about what to expect next and our plan forward.

Dr. Hutchison is very thorough and patient, and an educator at heart....He listened to my concerns about my menstrual cycle and adjusted my medications for the IUI cycle accordingly.... he was always happy to listen to my questions and explain his position on various topics based on current research.... I appreciated that during our treatment he was actively attending industry conferences and teaching others (often other doctors were shadowing him at my appointments) and that as a result he sometimes changed our treatment plan accordingly.
The clinic [Reproductive Health Center] is a small family practice and I developed a good relationship with the doctor, my IVF coordinator (Holly) and the front office staff (Carol). I was always greeted by name and staff would ask about my husband by name when he was not with me.... They do not have every possible bell and whistle of some other clinics (HSGs are done off site, there is no online patient portal) but their pricing is beyond fair.
How was your experience with Scot Hutchison at Reproductive Health Center (closed)?
Dr. Hutchison is very thorough and patient, and an educator at heart. We came to him prior to beginning treatment and after consulting with the other two REs in town. He did a complete review of my file and suggested we repeat the HSG procedure as a result of complications with my previous test. He explained the how and why of what he wanted to do and we decided on the spot to pursue an IUI cycle. He listened to my concerns about my menstrual cycle and adjusted my medications for the IUI cycle accordingly. Later we moved on to IVF and completed two retrieval cycles. Based on my age, health, and test results we all expected a great result from the first cycle, but I under-performed. In our followup consultation Dr. Hutchison was compassionate and receptive to my desire to do a second cycle right away, with changes to protocol. As a result my dosages were increased and a steroid added. When the second cycle resulted in a similar outcome, we were given the option to do a third retrieval or proceed with a transfer. When we chose to proceed with the transfer, he was again receptive to concerns we had about the protocol and open to a natural cycle FET. In general, I felt like I was given options at every step and the decision left up to me and my husband. We never felt rushed or pushed into a course of treatment. I was very active in understanding our treatment and making decisions about our care, and felt heard. In our experience, Dr. Hutchison is not one to tell you what to do which may work well for some but not others.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Scot Hutchison at Reproductive Health Center (closed)?
Do your homework and ask lots of questions. There are endless variations to ART treatments and he was always happy to listen to my questions and explain his position on various topics based on current research. I appreciated that during our treatment he was actively attending industry conferences and teaching others (often other doctors were shadowing him at my appointments) and that as a result he sometimes changed our treatment plan accordingly.

Describe the protocols Scot Hutchison used in your cycles at Reproductive Health Center (closed) and their degree of success.
For our IUI cycle I took 5mg Femara (Letrozole) on cycle days 3-7 and used an Ovidrel trigger. I had never used Clomid and he advised against it based on evidence of a luteal phase defect. For our first retrieval cycle I was on a fairly typical regimen of birth control for several weeks followed by 11 days of Follistim and Menopur at relatively low doses (150IU and 75IU). I used a dual trigger (hCG and Lupron). We retrieved 10 eggs, 5 of which were mature and fertilized with ICSI. 2 were biopsied and frozen on day 6 and deemed PGS normal. We chose to do a second retrieval to hopefully bank more embryos and repeated the protocol with the following changes: Menopur was increased to 150IU, 1mg of Dexamethasone was added, and we triggered with Lupron only due to higher estrogen levels. Despite the changes and promising scans and blood work, we retrieved 10 eggs again. This time 6 were mature and fertilized with ICSI, but only 1 was biopsied and frozen on day 6. It was also PGS normal. Prior to attempting a transfer, we were encouraged to do an endometrial receptivity test and thus did a mock cycle. After discussion with both Dr. Hutchison and Holly we were approved to do a natural cycle even though a medicated cycle is more common. I was closely monitored for my LH surge and took only supplemental (vaginal) progesterone during the cycle. The test results were receptive and we continued straight into an elective single embryo transfer cycle using the same natural cycle protocol.
Describe your experience with your nurse at Reproductive Health Center (closed). (Assigned nurse: Holly)
I worked primarily with Holly, the clinic's IVF coordinator (and the doctor's sister!). She was extremely patient with my endless research and questions, and made herself available by email and text message. She was there for nearly all of my ultrasounds and blood draws, and particularly good with a butterfly needle. I really felt that she was invested in my case. She was very positive and encouraging and advised me as if I were her daughter on many occasions. When Holly was unavailable, Pamela did my blood draws and was also very kind.
Describe your experience with Reproductive Health Center (closed).
The clinic is small and personable. They do not have every possible bell and whistle of some other clinics (HSGs are done off site, there is no online patient portal) but their pricing is beyond fair. I never once had a problem with records or billing, and only occasionally had to remind staff about a detail of my case. I think it's important to realize this is a small family practice with only one RE, so they do close for the holidays and at select other times in the year. Being a small practice, they also do retrievals in monthly batches which sometimes means waiting to start a cycle. However, I was always treated like a person rather than a number, and the doctor personally did all of my procedures, including ultrasounds.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Scot Hutchison at Reproductive Health Center (closed).
The cost of a medicated and monitored IUI cycle was $540, plus the cost of meds (~$100). The cost of our first retrieval cycle was $6,800 which included the $800 fee to biopsy our embryos for PGS testing. The actual PGS testing was handled by Progenesis at a cost of $350 per embryo plus shipping. Our second retrieval cycle was discounted to $4000. We did not do a third, but it would have been $3000. Between our first and second cycles they began charging a credit card processing fee. For our ERA cycle we paid a specialist copay to our insurance for each monitoring and the biopsy, as well as $600 to Igenomix for the testing. Our transfer cycle was included in the price of our retrieval cycles so there were no additional charges for the monitoring appointments or the transfer itself. If you elect not to do PGS, there is a $1000 fee for transfer. Our only other costs were $350 to bank a sperm sample for back up, and $350/year for embryo storage beginning the July after retrieval.
Describe Scot Hutchison's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Reproductive Health Center (closed).
From the beginning it was clear to us that the clinic favors eSET of PGS tested embryos. We did have one conversation where the possibility of transferring our two lowest graded embryos together was presented, but we decided against it due to a family history of preeclampsia and a desire to give each embryo a chance.

Describe the specific things that went wrong at Reproductive Health Center (closed).
I had only one small issue with protocol communication-- during my first cycle, both of my injections were taken together at night. During the second cycle, they were separated into AM and PM doses which was written on my protocol chart but not verbally called out at the start of the cycle, and so I didn't realize until day 3. I share in the blame for assuming I knew what I was doing rather than reading my paperwork carefully, but it would have been nice to have the change emphasized.

He [Dr. Scot Hutchinson] always set realistic expectations and has helped me to begin to consider alternative options beyond IVF. How was your experience with Scot Hutchison at Reproductive Health Center (closed)?
Dr. Hutchison is a very honest and compassionate doctor. Although my IVF cycle was not successful, I believe that he did everything he could for me. From the beginning, he was very straightforward about the various challenges of my particular case. He always set realistic expectations and has helped me to begin to consider alternative options beyond IVF. One thing to consider is that he is relatively conservative in his approach. He has good reasoning for his philosophy and communicates it well. Dr. Hutchison has been practicing long enough to watch the fertility field evolve. He is well-respected in the community and the University of Arizona medical residents train in his practice. Dr. Hutchison's pricing is affordable and transparent. His counseling is not influenced by financial incentive, but by what is in the best interest of the patient.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Scot Hutchison at Reproductive Health Center (closed)?
Holly will give out lots of information on how to obtain medications for the most affordable prices possible. This does require some extra legwork and responsibility on the part of the patient. This shouldn't be a problem as long as you stay organized and make sure to place your orders well in advance.

Dr. Hutchison always made me feel as though I was a top priority and that he valued all aspects of my well being. Having been through fertility issues himself, he is just as knowledgable about the emotional concerns as he is about the medical side. I've always felt supported knowing that he was available by phone whenever questions or concerns arose. Holly (his sister and the practice coordinator) spent so much time helping us with nutrition and lifestyle changes. She has that same great mix of empathy, intellect, and good judgment that must run in the Hutchison family! They both have many years of experience and I trust them to help me navigate through this challenging process.

As a single woman trying to make a decision about egg freezing past a certain age, there are lots of psychological, financial and emotional challenges in the way. It's weird to be saying this - but talking to Dr. Hutchison for 20 minutes was better than a year of therapy for me - however exaggerated that may sound - but it's true. He explained what the process was, what I could expect, and was supportive of my reasons and concerns regarding egg freezing.
The atmosphere [at Reproductive Health Center] was friendly, yet professional - I felt like I was surrounded by family! They helped me find ways to afford the medications - every aspect of how they run their clinic seems to be geared towards helping patients afford and receive care, while feeling supported during the process. The care is all-inclusive and they don't individually charge for a million things like most other places I researched. They simplified the financial part of the process which helped so much in my making a decision about getting this done.
How was your experience with Scot Hutchison at Reproductive Health Center (closed)?
I live in NYC but was overwhelmed by the expense and coldness of the fertility Doctors/facilities I met with when I explored the idea of freezing my eggs. I was terrified of moving forward given the circumstances, and looked into other places I might consider. My Mother lives in Tucson, AZ and asked for a recommendation out there to look into and Scot Hutchison came highly recommended. I called to speak with him and from the very first phone call I felt such understanding and support for my personal situation, it eliminated all the fears and anxiety that that came with exploring this option in New York City. When I arrived at the clinic for the first appointment I finally got to meet him in person. He was just as warm, kind and helpful as he was over the phone. Dr. Hutchison truly took the time to explain the process and answer any questions I had, with complete patience and professionalism. Every subsequent appointment was like this down to the very egg retrieval itself - my trust was not misplaced. I wish I had a doctor like him watching over my care on a regular basis! I immediately booked a 2nd egg retrieval after my experience with Dr. Hutchison.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Scot Hutchison at Reproductive Health Center (closed)?
Get ready to be completely taken care of - you are in excellent hands.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Scot Hutchison at Reproductive Health Center (closed)?
From the very first phone call with Dr. Hutchison, I felt immense support, honesty and encouragement - all of which I needed but didn't even realize how much until I started care with him and his sister (Holly) at the center where they provide services. Dr. Hutchison is hands down one of the best doctors I have ever had. He was very sensitive to my situation, supportive on every level (from the technical/medical aspects of treatment down to logistics on getting affordable care). He communicated with such knowledge and professionalism I felt nothing but immense trust and gratitude for being able to have him as a provider. I had been to a doctor in NYC who was fine - but definitely felt like a number there in comparison. This was a whole new level of support and care. After one egg retrieval I was so impressed and grateful for the experience I planned a second without even blinking. Words cannot describe how much I appreciate doctors like Scot Hutchison. I wish he could be my OB!
Describe the protocols Scot Hutchison used in your cycles at Reproductive Health Center (closed) and their degree of success.
For the first egg retrieval, I was asked to go on the pill until a certain date - this was to plan around a certain date for the retrieval and to I think give my ovaries a bit of a rest. :) According to my age and history, Dr. Hutchison prescribed Menopur and ganirilex, accordingly. He had me come in a day early for one of my sonograms as my eggs started to look as if they were 'ready' a little more quickly than thought (at least that was my understanding although I'm sure the technical medical terminology used was different than how I've described) :) . All appointments were changed according to what was going on with my body reacting to the hormones, and at one point additional ganirilex was prescribed. Although I was told a number of eggs would be retrieved but not all might be mature, they managed to keep me on a dosage and schedule that resulted in all eggs retrieved also being mature - so I kept all that came out!
Describe your experience with your nurse at Reproductive Health Center (closed).
My nurse (who mostly did blood withdrawal) was lovely. At one point there was some minor confusion about exactly how much ganirilex I needed to purchase at the nearby pharmacy, but we cleared it up after getting in touch with Dr. Hutchison.
Describe your experience with Reproductive Health Center (closed).
It's hard to find weaknesses - I experienced mostly 'strengths' about the clinic. Every appointment I had was on time (or early if I arrived early). The atmosphere was friendly, yet professional - I felt like I was surrounded by family! I received full support/instructions on how to give myself injections, etc. Holly Hutchison was on-call for any questions I had (she is absolutely lovely). I even called her on a Sunday with a question - she answered! I have to say this clinic and its staff is fully devoted to their patients - but also giving their patients outstanding support and care!
Describe the costs associated with your care under Scot Hutchison at Reproductive Health Center (closed).
The treatment was all-inclusive except for one additional blood test I had to do outside the norm to be sure they were timing everything correctly (the cost was minimal - something like $50). Otherwise, treatment was just around $3000. Amazing as the list of treatments involved in New York were closer to $6000 and they charge per procedure in every way they could. The clinic also provided options for me to purchase the drugs/hormones necessary for treatment at an amazing price, which ended up costing around $2000. This is a fraction of what it would have cost me elsewhere. They really make a huge effort to help patients afford care!
What specific things went wrong at Reproductive Health Center (closed)?
  • Provided conflicting information
Describe the specific things that went wrong at Reproductive Health Center (closed).
Nothing went 'wrong', per say - I just needed some extra ganirilex from the nearby pharmacy, but a staff member didn't realize I had purchased most of the ganirilex already from another source and only needed one dose from the nearby pharmacy. Once I brought it up - they immediately checked everything and confirmed I only needed the one dose from next door. This is such a small criticism I feel bad even mentioning it!

Dr. Hutchison is kind, warm, and caring. I know his practice is busy and I never feel like he is rushing or trying to get me out of the way. My husband has also liked him from the get go. He is very optimistic, and provides a lot of information when asked.... Before doing any treatments, Dr. Hutchison is big on health and supplements. He encourages Vitamin D and no drinking alcohol for both partners, no caffeine, and he told me to start Co-q10 to help with egg quality early on.
The clinic [Reproductive Heath Center] is very accommodating with your schedule, but know that it is small and there is only one doctor. While I rarely had to wait longer than a week for an appointment, when I was scheduling testing and the doctor was out of town, I would sometimes have to wait an extra month.... As strengths, the clinic is comfortable and personable. I always felt welcome there and rarely had to wait longer than a few minutes to be seen. The clinic is very team oriented and they all seem to enjoy their jobs.

Dr. Hutchison is kind, warm, and caring. I know his practice is busy and I never feel like he is rushing or trying to get me out of the way. My husband has also liked him from the get go. He is very optimistic, and provides a lot of information when asked. Sometimes I wish that I wouldn’t have to ask to get answers, and he would be more up front with possible scenarios, alternatives to treatment, and side effects. Overall, I’ve been very pleased with his care and I sincerely do trust him. We’ve been seeing him for about a year now, he was referred by a friend. He has gone out of his way to schedule appointments on weekends and random times when I had difficulty finding time. I appreciate that he always calls me back if I have a question. We kept missing each other one time and he called me 3 days in a row until he reached me. He is the only RE at his practice, so if he is out of time, sometimes I had to wait a little longer to get things done, such as testing.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Scot Hutchison at Reproductive Health Center (closed)?
Come with questions prepared and be open to following up with more as needed through phone calls.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Scot Hutchison at Reproductive Health Center (closed)?
The Reproductive Health Center is small and extremely personal. I have felt known by the entire staff and my time was always respected. Dr. Hutchison has always taken the time to call me back personally, have as many follow up appointments as needed to answer my questions. He is warm and kind, and I do feel genuinely cared about in his care.
Describe the protocols Scot Hutchison used in your cycles at Reproductive Health Center (closed) and their degree of success.
Before doing any treatments, Dr. Hutchison is big on health and supplements. He encourages Vitamin D and no drinking alcohol for both partners, no caffeine, and he told me to start Co-q10 to help with egg quality early on. I also started taking DHEA. Despite Dr. Hutchison suggesting an IUI, my husband and I opted to try IVF first to ideally bank embryos since I have diminished ovarian reserve. He put me on a DOR protocol- 300 units of Folistim each day and 150 units of Menopur plus Ganirelex (don’t recall the dosage) for the second half of the cycle. The first 5 days of the cycle, I also used a Testosterone patch. Monitoring went well, he predicted 6-8 eggs. I ended up doing only 9 days of injections because of the size of the follicles. He retrieved 6 eggs, all were mature. 5 fertilized, but none made it to 5 day blastocyst. They thought 1 or 2 might make it, but that did not happen. There was not really an explanation for why. Since then, we opted to try an IUI because I have a narrow cervix. For that, I took Letrozole (low dosage) for 5 days, then went in for monitoring on cycle day 9. I had 2 follicles on both sides that were a good size for ovulation. Then I did an Ovidrel trigger shot about 32 hours before the IUI. We are still waiting on our results.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at Reproductive Health Center (closed).
As stated before, this is a small clinic. I only ever dealt with 2 nurses there. One is the main nurse and she is great! She is warm, helpful, an expert at taking blood, and she gives great tips. Occasionally she has called me back for the doctor and always answers my questions thoroughly. She was also the nurse during my retrieval, and I appreciated her compassion and care. The other nurse I spoke with helped me secure medication from over the border by translating for me with the pharmacy. She called me back to remind me of things I would need when purchasing the Menopur, she was a huge help!
Describe your experience with Reproductive Health Center (closed).
The clinic is very accommodating with your schedule, but know that it is small and there is only one doctor. While I rarely had to wait longer than a week for an appointment, when I was scheduling testing and the doctor was out of town, I would sometimes have to wait an extra month. For new patients, consider that some things take time with this clinic and be aware. The clinic also doesn't call to confirm appointments, so make sure to write them down when you schedule them, or feel free to call to double check times as needed. As strengths, the clinic is comfortable and personable. I always felt welcome there and rarely had to wait longer than a few minutes to be seen. The clinic is very team oriented and they all seem to enjoy their jobs.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Scot Hutchison at Reproductive Health Center (closed).
My initial testing was covered under my insurance, so I had to just pay a co-pay when I went in ($60 each time), plus the cost of the test. I paid under $300 for all the testing. For an IUI, it was $565. For our IVF cycle, we chose an entire package that included the monitoring appointments, retrieval, anesthesia, ICSI, and biopsy for PGS was $6800. Our embryos didn't make it to be biopsied, so we were credited $800. All of their prices are on their website and they are very transparent.
Describe Scot Hutchison's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Reproductive Health Center (closed).
Dr. Hutchison primarily does single embryo transfer, and from what I understand rarely does multiple embryo transfer because of high risk twin or triplet pregnancies pose.

Dr. Hutchison wad very kind and took the time to get to know me as an individual....At my first visit, we went over my history, he told me what he suspected the issue was and started talking about a game plan that would be specifically geared toward me. They [Reproductive Health Center] treated you like a member of the family. They felt compassion for you when you were sad, encouraged you to keep going, and celebrated good news with you.... I do remember a sign saying that costs would probably be higher if they submitted bills to your insurance and they weren't covered, so they were willing to do lower payments for direct out of pocket payments.
How was your experience with Scot Hutchison at Reproductive Health Center (closed)?
Dr. Hutchison wad very kind and took the time to get to know me as an individual. He was the second RE I had seen, after having a failed round of IUI and IVF ending in miscarriage in a foreign country with a language barrier. At my first visit, we went over my history, he told me what he suspected the issue was and started talking about a game plan that would be specifically geared toward me. We did a vaginal ultrasound, and we saw a corpus luteum, which meant I had ovulated and could be possibly pregnant! He also told me I probably had just your garden variety of PCOS, definitely not the worst he had seen. I was devastated and cried and he was so patient with me. Then he told me to be of good cheer, that he was very confident that with treatment I would be able to conceive, probably pretty easily. Even though diagnosis was hard to hear, I left that appt. feeling motivated to start making the necessary changes to get pregnant. Little did I know I already was! My next visit was an US to confirm that all was well and to see how far along I was, and that was it!
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Scot Hutchison at Reproductive Health Center (closed)?
Be open to whatever he tells you. I am not overweight, never have been, and was a little shocked that a big part of his game plan for me was to make changes in my diet and exercise habits. It didn't make much sense to me, but he was so excited to see how much these little changes would help me, which in turn motivated me!
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Scot Hutchison at Reproductive Health Center (closed)?
Dr. Hutchison was very kind, listened to my concerns and answered my questions in a direct but gentle way. His focus was entirely on me the whole time I was in his office.
Describe the protocols Scot Hutchison used in your cycles at Reproductive Health Center (closed) and their degree of success.
We didn't get very far in treatmrnt plan because I found out I had conceived naturally shortly after my first visit. But first things first were to get an extensive lab panel done to confirm PCOS. After that I was going to start on metformin, and make diet and exercise changes to help me get healthier. He wanted to see if those things alone would make a difference, but because of my age, my desire to start a family, and the fact that I had already done one round of IVF, he said he wouldn't wait too long to do IVF again if that is what I wanted. Luckily it never came to that
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at Reproductive Health Center (closed).
I only remember having my weight and vitals checked with the nurses, but they were all kind and courteous. I also briefly spoke to a dietician or nurse educator about my diet and exercise and she was also very good explaining, describing, and answering my questions.
Describe your experience with Reproductive Health Center (closed).
It is hard to judge a clinic on only two visits, but I did love the atmosphere there; it was very calm and uplifiting. They treated you like a member of the family. They felt compassion for you when you were sad, encouraged you to keep going, and celebrated good news with you.

Dr. Hutchison is not a proponent of multiples in pregnancy...Since I was healthy, he allowed me to not use chlomid. He saw me almost daily for ultrasounds leading up to ovulation...He seemed genuinely interested in helping us and was knowledgeable in how to help us....He caught our male factor infertility that our first doctor completely missed...Dr. Hutchison took time to run all the tests and try to catch everything he could before resorting to invitro.
The clinic [Repro Health Center] was very organized at the front desk. Scheduling was smooth and payments were mostly as expected. I was told to get some blood work done without knowing that some of the tests cost upwards of $800. A heads up on that would have been nice, but other than that, all costs were as expected...After insurance, we paid about $150 per visit, depending on if they did an ultrasound or not....They usually told us how much each visit would run us before we even showed up for the visit.
How was your experience with Scot Hutchison at Reproductive Health Center (closed)?
He was very warm and friendly. I felt completely at ease with him. He seemed genuinely interested in helping us and was knowledgeable in how to help us. I liked that he told us every step of the way what he was doing and why he was doing it. He caught our male factor infertility that our first doctor completely missed. Our first doctor only wanted to try IUI a couple times, but then go straight to invitro without exploring everything. Dr. Hutchison took time to run all the tests and try to catch everything he could before resorting to invitro. We treated my husband and then tried an IUI. As part of our IUI, he didn't require us to immediately use chlomid, but let me have a natural cycle, since there was nothing wrong with me. It only took one cycle after treating my husband for us to get pregnant.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Scot Hutchison at Reproductive Health Center (closed)?
He took time to talk to me and address any questions I had. I felt like I could ask anything and the allotted appointment time was not a factor in getting them answered.
Describe the protocols Scot Hutchison used in your cycles at Reproductive Health Center (closed) and their degree of success.
After referring us to a urologist to get my husband treated, I did an unmedicated cycle our first time with IUI. Dr. Hutchison is not a proponent of multiples in pregnancy, which is better for the mother's health. Since I was healthy, he allowed me to not use chlomid. He saw me almost daily for ultrasounds leading up to ovulation and the day before He was pretty sure I would ovulate, injected me with some hormone to be sure I ovulated the next day. We then did IUI, and it resulted in pregnancy.

The clinic was very organized at the front desk. Scheduling was smooth and payments were mostly as expected. I was told to get some blood work done without knowing that some of the tests cost upwards of $800. A heads up on that would have been nice, but other than that, all costs were as expected.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Scot Hutchison at Reproductive Health Center (closed).
After insurance, we paid about $150 per visit, depending on if they did an ultrasound or not. The cost of the blood work that was ordered was surprising. I didn't have any idea that some of the tests would cost over $800. I wish they would have warned us about that (I still would have gone through with it anyway) The rest of the costs were as expected. They usually told us how much each visit would run us before we even showed up for the visit.
Describe Scot Hutchison's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Reproductive Health Center (closed).
While I did not do invitro, I know that Dr. Hutchison is a strong proponent of single embryo transfer, because it results in healthier pregnancies.

Even if you're not ready for aggressive treatment, he [Dr. Hutchison] is there to collaborate and help put you on a positive path towards a healthy pregnancy...We saw Dr. Hutchison at every visit. He did not delegate any part of the process to his nursing staff. He gave us honest advice and followed the plan we wanted. He did not force us into any decision and did not force us into taking aggressive steps until we were ready. When he had the results of our retrieval and genetic testing, he called us on the weekend to explain the good news. He transferred one embryo because he genuinely cares about a healthy pregnancy. He genuinely cares about giving us the best outcome possible.
The entire staff [at Reproductive Health Center] knew where we were at in the process. The knew our first names and called us by our first names. They offer words of support when needed and without asking.... During the IVF process, we coordinated a payment schedule to cover the large amount that our insurance did not cover. The monthly payment was determined by us.
How was your experience with Scot Hutchison at Reproductive Health Center (closed)?
Dr. Hutchison genuinely cares about helping us and providing the best outcome possible. He cares about ensuring a healthy pregnancy. Dr. Hutchison answered all questions and concerns were had along the way. If we had concerns, he did not make us feel inferior, he helped us understand and made sure we knew every detail of the process. He treated us with compassion in times of sorrow. He gave my body time to heal after a miscarriage before beginning a new cycle. He took time to watch our embryos develop and waited for my body to heal and recover from the egg retrieval before transfer. Dr. Hutchison listens, he cares, he communicates clearly, and even made phone calls to us on the weekend when needed.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Scot Hutchison at Reproductive Health Center (closed)?
Don't wait. Call and make an appointment now. Even if you're not ready for aggressive treatment, he is there to collaborate and help put you on a positive path towards a healthy pregnancy.

I felt like a human because every staff member, including Dr. Hutchison, treated us like family. Describe Scot Hutchison's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Reproductive Health Center (closed).
eSET was perfect for us. Dr. Hutchison and his team identified the best and healthiest embryos that they thought would last to full term. He did not rush the process and transfer an embryo within a week of retrieval. With this process, his team ensures proper development of the embryos over time, genetic testing to make sure the embryos are healthy, and time to allow my body to recover after the retrieval before transfer to give the embryo the best place to thrive.

After 5 years of fighting infertility, I know that patients need straightforward answers and plausible options, including odds of success. Dr. Hutchison is great at that, even when the truth is hard to hear. He isn't just treating infertility, he's treating patients as whole people. That includes lifestyle, diet, and mental and emotion health. As infertility effects every aspect of your life, this holistic treatment is important. My results were neither quick nor easy, but I couldn't say a single bad thing about Dr. Hutchison.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Scot Hutchison at Reproductive Health Center (closed)?
Don't go in expecting instant results, and be prepared for the sometimes harsh reality of the truth. If you're willing to put in the effort, know that Dr. Hutchison will be too.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Scot Hutchison at Reproductive Health Center (closed)?
Dr. Hutchison was my second infertility doctor. My first made me feel horrible, and didn't care about me or even my results, it only felt like they wanted money. Dr. Hutchison made me feel like it was okay to keep trying, but also like it was okay to stop. He taught me to consider myself, my marriage and my needs, outside of my infertility. He helped me understand I was not my infertility. His whole clinic supported me, were available for questions, fully explained our options, and respected my decisions. No infertility experience is good, but it can be made better or worse by your doctor. Dr. Hutichison does everything he can to make it better.
Describe the protocols Scot Hutchison used in your cycles at Reproductive Health Center (closed) and their degree of success.
I had a lot of protocols. The protocols consisted of vitamins, estrogen, progesterone, vaginal suppositories, baby asprin, occasionally antibiotics, subcutaneous injections in the stomach, subcutaneous injections of blood thinners, and sometimes inter-muscular injections in the hips. Side effects included thirst, hot flashes, mood swings, occasional dizziness, and occasional nausea. The treatments were intended to optimize my ability to produce as many eggs as possible during retrieval, or to prepare my body to accept a transferred embryo, and support/maintain a pregnancy after transfer. I got pregnant three times but miscarried twice. After each miscarriage the protocol was adjusted. The final, and successful, protocol was much different than the standard protocol and was intended to strip my body of all estrogen, basically establish a baseline, and build up the optimal conditions from scratch. We are 17 weeks pregnant now.

The clinic was great. They were always available, kind, and considerate. Occasionally, I would go to get my blood drawn and the lab wouldn't have the orders from the clinic. It's also important that you fully understand your payment plan, because not all staff have access to that information.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Scot Hutchison at Reproductive Health Center (closed).
Costs varied based on procedure. The Doctor and Holly provided special pricing for every protocol as my circumstances changed. It never felt like it was about the money. They were very flexible about payment plans and helped us get discounted medicine and infertility loans as well.

There were two times I couldn't get my blood drawn when at the lab because there weren't orders. Once I had to wait for a prescription that hadn't been called in yet. All three instances were quickly resolved before or after normal clinic hours.

When we first came to see Dr. Hutchison, we sat down with him as he explained our fertility issues. My husband is not at all biologically inclined. But Dr. Hutchison took the time to explain our issues in a way that a biologically illiterate person could understand. He has calls me himself with results and answers any questions I might have....He's not as aggressive as othet doctors. So if your desires are to have quadruplets, he's not the guy for you.
The staff and doctor at RHC [Reproductive Health Center] is friendly but honest. They cared when I miscarried, are available after hours and refer patients to outside help when needed....The clinic is very clean, professional and relaxed. They are good at making you feel comfortable when you are scared and have no clue what is going on or what to do. As for weaknesses, maybe that they are not as aggressive as some patients would like. I don't want an aggressive treatment, but this is what I've heard from others who have sought treatments at this clinic.

Describe the protocols Scot Hutchison used in your cycles at Reproductive Health Center (closed) and their degree of success.
We started with IUIs. We did 3 tries and he explained that statistically, that was all we should do. We moved on to IVF with our own eggs and sperm. The first harvest was successful with lots (almost too many) eggs, half of which fertilized. We opted not to do genetic testing based on price and our health and age. Of that harvest, we did 1 fresh and 6 frozen transfers. It yielded 1 child. Our next round of IVF was unsuccessful. 8 eggs, 4 fertilized and 1 lived to genetically test. It was abnormal. The recommendation from the doctor was to see a nutritionalist. We were recommended to Hana Feeney. Working with her, we have discovered some food sensitivities and have access to higher quality vitamins. Our most recent harvest was 12 eggs, 6 fertilized and 2 were genetically sound. We took a risk and did a fresh transfer without having the results of the genetics test. My hormone levels were perfect and the embryo looked text book perfect they said. I am currently pregnant.

A harvest, including medication is around $10K. Genetic testing used to be $7K, now is about $3K. Frozen embryo transfers are about $3K, I think.

Dr. Hutchison took interest in my personal journey and what led me to his office. Rather than look at me like a stat and apply a prescription approach, he gave advice and protocols that suited my situation....One thing that a potential patient might see as a drawback that Dr. H. rarely does fresh transfers which is different from other doctors in town. This is because he's looking for optimal levels before doing to increase the chances of pregnancy. While I understand the diligence of this, it's different than other doctors and during my retrieval I would have just liked to have given it a try, even if the odds were low. We were planning on doing genetic testing and a frozen transfer the following month anyhow so to me it didn't seem like it would have hurt to try a fresh transfer. The clinic is great at providing space and time for their clients. The staff is wonderful. They make the client feel like they genuinely care about your situation. We were planning on doing genetic testing and a frozen transfer the following month anyhow so to me it didn't seem like it would have hurt to try a fresh transfer. Another notable difference is that he does not like to transfer more than one embryo unless there's significant reason to do so. This is negotiable to some degree. AND, of course, this IS ethical, best-practice due to the innumerable complications that can come to mother/baby with multiples. Still, some patients may be frustrated with that view after putting so much into the IVF process. Overall, RHC was the most diligent, responsive reproductive clinic I found in Tucson. I appreciated their care while going through this challenging part of our life.

Comparable to other prices in the state for the process/procedures. Did not do frivilous testing but was diligent and thorough.

Describe the specific things that went wrong at Reproductive Health Center (closed).
Overall, the clinic did a great job with getting me through this challenging process. There was an instance where my lab work was not run. After calling and stating my disappointment, they made every effort to fix the mistake and rush the results. The doctor even called me personally later that evening with the results I had been waiting for.
