Scot [Hutchison] is simply wonderful. He starts at the beginning, carefully answering all questions. He is upbeat and positive while managing expectations appropriately. He seems to genuinely care about his patients (both partners) and goes out of his way to make sure you are comfortable and cared for....I had tried drugs and IUI with a different provider, so Scot recommending skipping to IVF. We followed a protocol using follistim for egg stimulation, a different drug that I don't recall to prevent premature ovulation, an hcg trigger shot a specific period of time prior to retrieval, and then progesterone prior to and after transfer. I conceived and delivered a beautiful baby boy on the third retrieval after a chemical pregnancy on the first retrieval. Also, Scot and his team emphasize the importance of a good diet during and before fertility treatments and pregnancy.

Everything about the experience is as pleasant as it could be from the waiting room to the bathrooms to the communicate style of the staff. Everyone is knowledgeable and able to answer questions. Choose him over anyone else in Tucson. I started with a different provider and working with Scot was a huge upgrade.

Holly is amazing. She is organized, so prompt in her communication and responses, makes herself available at all hours not just for technical questions but for a reassuring pep talk if you need it. And Pamela and the rest of the team who support Holly and Scot are equally wonderful.

This is difficult to tease apart but something like this... $3,000 to $4,000 per retrieval/transfer cycle in medication costs (to pharmacy). $60 per acupuncture session (to acupuncturist) $3,000 - $5,000 per retrieval and transfer cycle depending on cycle

I first sought treatment with Dr. Hutchison. He did all the infertility testing and had no real reason for our lack of getting pregnant. After my HSG, he said give it 6 more months, so I assumed everything was fine...I wish now that he would've suggested IUI right after the HSG....He was very quick in the room and didn't spend a lot of time. Sometimes he forgot my situation and didn't seem to fully remember where we were and how many cycles we've done.
The waiting room [Reproductive Health Center- Tucson] was nice and comfy with private little sofas for each couple. Typical doctor's office with the receptionist behind a sliding glass window....With just doing IUI's the only nursing staff you saw was the lady who would walk you back to your room....The cost of an IUI was $600....He [Dr. Hutchison] was very quick in the room and didn't spend a lot of time. Sometimes he forgot my situation and didn't seem to fully remember where we were and how many cycles we've done....

So when we finally decided to move on to IVF we went to a different doctor.

When you are ready to try IUI or IVF, you need to say when because he will not seek you or push you.

I did several IUI's with Clomid and my dosages were upped after the first cycle, but then we had the right amount to produce multiple follicles.

With just doing IUI's the only nursing staff you saw was the lady who would walk you back to your room. She wouldn't even tell you what to undress (like waist down), just pointed to your room.

Will make recommendations for diet for fertility and other lifestyle changes that can improve odds...is thorough and detailed and although my results were not what I’d wanted, I don’t feel I was mislead...4 eggs, 3 fertilized, 1 blastocyst that was genetically abnormal.
[Reproductive Health Center has a] Nice calming atmosphere, on time to appointments, helpful with explaining questions...fast in response to calls or emails. Weakness- once they didn’t put in an order to my pharmacy for the antibiotic during IVF...All in all a great patient experience...nursing staff is great, and you will feel well cared for.

Dr was on time to appointments, and took the time to listen to our questions and provide appropriate information.

Started with IUI with letrozole, 10 mg. Unsuccessful. Moved onto IVF later that year. Follistim 150 twice daily. Then ganirelex, and HCG trigger. Results were 4 eggs, 3 fertilized, 1 blastocyst that was genetically abnormal.

The nursing staff is great, and you will feel well cared for. They do what they can to ease your anxiety on the process, and some will share their personal experience having been a patient there too.

During ivf, the nurse said she would be ordering the antibiotics to my pharmacy. Only on the weekend did I realize she hadn’t done that. So it did cause some added stress during my IVF cycle.

Hutchison's process is slow, with many tests and a big emphasis on diet and supplements.

A booklet with extensive information on sourcing meds is provided, and they are very helpful in working with you to source them at reasonable cost...Given my advanced age, the emphasis has been on improving egg quality with diet and supplements (DHEA, CoQ10). I underwent three retrieval cycles with PGS.

He is very knowledgable, straight forward, understands the new technology and processes and is always flexible about meeting with you any day of the week.... In my case, my body only responds to Menopur, an injectable. Depending on if I was doing an IUI or IVF i would use 2-4 viles daily for 5-12 days. With this medicine, I would start to produce follicles. Once I had follicles we were able to proceed with treatments.
The atmosphere [Reproductive Health Care] is more cozy and traditional compared to others. Its great because you get to know all the staff, feel at home, lots of reading materials and handouts are abailable. After your initial visit, be sure to read and understand as many aspects of the process, so you can ask intellegent questions moving forward.... Costs are very reasonable. I believe and IUI costs $540 plus the costs for medications. The IVF process has a sliding scale; I think the first round is around $9500 plus the cost of medications.

Dr H prefers to only transfer 1 embryo due to the high risks involved for mothers and babies if its twins, triplets or more. Since starting the IUI and IVF process I have met many people who do not want the risk and are glad this is how he proceeds.

Dr. Hutchison prefers to transfer only one embryo vs multiple embryo transfer unless there is a circumstance that calls for it because it keeps the risks of multiples down which increases the mother’s chance of a healthy full term pregnancy

We agreed about the singular transfer of embryos, Dr Hutchison is very ethical in his practice. ... A transparent explanation of cost based on insurance was sometimes hard to get [from Reproductive Health Center] and required multiple inquiries. It wasn't hard to get an appointment and they worked with my schedule. The nurses are nice, the axillary staff is sweet. Dr Hutchinson is very informed and being a little too hands off in treatment course is the only critique I have of my care. I would have moved from Iui to Ivf sooner in hindsight. Be willing to listen to his advice. He cares deeply about his patients and the welfare of the child they hope to carry. While the woman is his patient on paper, his concern is also with the baby. If you hate salmon (like I do), but he tells you the benefits of eating salmon both before and during pregnancy, be willing to try it.

He is very nice and personable, I wish things were explained a little better and appointments weren't so rushed. I also think he could be a little more motivating. There were times where I walked out of the clinic with little to no motivation, and I feel that this is a place where that should be a priority. We are not just patients, we are individuals who are frustrated, feel like our bodies don't work and creating a little family is our dream, that sometimes feels impossible to fufill.

Dr Hutchinson was very direct. He is very thorough and tells you the best direction to go. Infertility is a tough road but leading you down the road of not as much letdown is comforting. As much as it hurt to hear that my egg quality is incredibly low, it was in a way comforting to know that my partner and I won't have to go through time and time again disappointment of trying with my own eggs.

Dr. Hutchison is wholistic which I liked - they supported all my naturopathic, TCM and diet support. They also educate patients on diet which I believe can make a big difference going through this especially if you have endometriosis like I have. He was sensitive, personable, took time to answer all my questions and make sure everything went as it needed to do that we could have a child. (Which worked with one egg retrieval and one FET!!)
You are in good hands [at Reproductive Health Center]. FYI you will primarily be in communication with the IVF coordinator, Holly Hutchison M.S. (his sister) Outside of appointments but you can always call Dr. Hutchison and he will get back to you...Dr. Hutchison is wholistic which I liked - they supported all my naturopathic, TCM and diet support. Dr. Hutchison, Holly and all staff were very supportive and understanding of my questions and emotional sensitivity. They were direct and honest but caring and realistically positive. I realized I needed that because my mindset could so easily go into worry-mode!
