Attention to Detail

Attention to detail is on a 1 - 10 scale, and is scored based on the rate, and severity, of errors committed by the clinic according to the patients.

For example, a severe error might be failing to inform a patient of critical information, while a small error might be failing to call a patient with results.

CDC Success Rates

This is the most recent data from the CDC. The CDC cautions that it should not be used to compare doctors and clinics. This data represents the outcomes of IVF cycles when using a person's own eggs.

For more information please see our FAQs.

Where you see a “?” on the chart, a clinic has done fewer than 20 cycles in this category and age range, so the CDC says showing percentages from this small data set would be misleading and unreliable.

Dr. Ziegler is a strong communicator. He is attentive and patient. I am able to speak with him in person and over the phone. He is honest and will paint the whole picture for you so that you have realistic expectations. He also explains technical things at a level that is comprehendable to the patient...has years of experience and I always felt that he was compassionate and non judge mental when responding to my questions. He also has a way of explaining scientific and technical things as a level that is comprehendable to his patients.
Great clinic. This practice [Reproductive Science Center of New Jersey] has been around for a while and is a well oiled machine. I never experience long wait times and my appointments never last long, which I appreciate since I am a full time working mom. The cycle monitoring appointments are always early in the morning so I am never too late for work...Nursing staff is compassionate and patient. If they don’t know the answer to a question, they work hard to get you an answer.
How was your experience with William Ziegler at Reproductive Science Center of New Jersey?
Dr. Ziegler is a strong communicator. He is attentive and patient. I am able to speak with him in person and over the phone. He is honest and will paint the whole picture for you so that you have realistic expectations. He also explains technical things at a level that is comprehendable to the patient. I would recommend his practice to a friend who is looking to undergo fertility treatment.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of William Ziegler at Reproductive Science Center of New Jersey?
Do not hesitate to ask questions, even when you are think they seem silly. Dr. Ziegler has years of experience and I always felt that he was compassionate and non judge mental when responding to my questions. He also has a way of explaining scientific and technical things as a level that is comprehendable to his patients.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with William Ziegler at Reproductive Science Center of New Jersey?
Dr. Ziegler was always able to meet with me in person upon request. I did not feel rushed when I had questions. He was also available via phone. When I had IUIs that resulted in a negative pregnancy test, Dr. Ziegler communicated with me directly over the phone. I appreciated this rather than notification over a portal or via the nursing staff. He had me take updated tests over the course of treating me to ensure we were always capturing my current fertility state. I also felt that he was honest with me regarding my chances for success.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at Reproductive Science Center of New Jersey.

Describe the costs associated with your care under William Ziegler at Reproductive Science Center of New Jersey.
I have insurance through my employer which covers the cost of my procedures up to $20k lifetime max and up to $6k lifetime max. I paid out of pocket for what wasn’t covered. Once I maxed out my prescription max, some of the prescriptions were discounted because of the relationship between the fertility pharmacy and the practice.

Dr. Ziegler was quiet, uninvolved, and disinterested. He was never rude or condescending, but rather apathetic...I only met Dr. Ziegler twice — and it was during an ultrasound and then egg retrieval. But no more than two words were exchanged. I had some communication via telephone after my IVF where he seemed to be disinterested in the questions and concerns I had...
The nurses [at Reproductive Science Center of New Jersey] even insulted Dr. Ziegler in front of me (without him present) which made me quite uncomfortable because he had just performed my egg retrieval and I wanted to have confidence that he would pull through good results. Very uncomfortable experience...the vast majority (those I dealt with firsthand during ultrasounds and phone calls) were rude and demonstrated odd, unprofessional behaviors. It’s odd to be a patient and witness the ‘behind-the-scenes’ coworker drama...
How was your experience with William Ziegler at Reproductive Science Center of New Jersey?
Dr. Ziegler was quiet, uninvolved, and disinterested. He was never rude or condescending, but rather apathetic. When I addressed concerns with him, especially pertaining to staff (they would chant anti-vax rhetoric and told me to leave my infant in my car unattended during egg retrieval as they didn’t want him coming in with my husband to quickly sign paperwork), Dr. Ziegler said IVF nurses are hard to find so he just deals with them. Overall results and care by Dr. Ziegler were poor.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of William Ziegler at Reproductive Science Center of New Jersey?
I would recommend they see Dr. Ziegler’s partner instead. That way they can still attend this clinic, if location is important, but also have a nicer, more human doctor.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with William Ziegler at Reproductive Science Center of New Jersey?
I only met Dr. Ziegler twice — and it was during an ultrasound and then egg retrieval. But no more than two words were exchanged. I had some communication via telephone after my IVF where he seemed to be disinterested in the questions and concerns I had.
Describe the protocols William Ziegler used in your cycles at Reproductive Science Center of New Jersey and their degree of success.
We used medications such as menopur, gonal-F, and cetrotide for my egg retrieval. I think everything was pretty standard. I stimmed for roughly 10 days, 9 eggs were retrieved, 8 eggs were mature, 2 day 6 blast went to freeze to which 1 PGT ‘normal’ embryo resulted.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at Reproductive Science Center of New Jersey.
Some of the nurses, through passing, were lovely and very kind. However, the vast majority (those I dealt with firsthand during ultrasounds and phone calls) were rude and demonstrated odd, unprofessional behaviors. It’s odd to be a patient and witness the ‘behind-the-scenes’ coworker drama. The nurses even insulted Dr. Ziegler in front of me (without him present) which made me quite uncomfortable because he had just performed my egg retrieval and I wanted to have confidence that he would pull through good results. Very uncomfortable experience. Also very low diversity in the nursing staff. Staff was predominantly white, with zero black staff.
Describe your experience with Reproductive Science Center of New Jersey.
The clinic is very clean and well kept. The nurses who ARE kind, are very, very kind. I wish I had worked with them. The receptionist is so sweet as well! Billing was a hassle, but it’s safe to assume billing at any healthcare facility is a hassle because insurance is impossible. Morning monitoring is kind of a nightmare, seems to be a bit overly busy. I think this practice might be taking on too many patients which could maybe hinder overall quality. Dr. Ziegler is a bit too uninvolved and the nurses I had were awful. Also a strong need for a more diverse nursing staff / clinical staff.
Describe your experience with your monitoring appointments at Reproductive Science Center of New Jersey.
It was typically very busy and staff made me uncomfortable because they seemed grumpy.
Describe the costs associated with your care under William Ziegler at Reproductive Science Center of New Jersey.
Roughly $7,000 for the IVF cycle, my medications were covered by insurance so I’m unsure of the cost of those, and roughly $2000 for PGT testing of embryos.
Describe William Ziegler's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Reproductive Science Center of New Jersey.
This was a preservation cycle so I am unsure about his transfer approach. However, I was encouraged to transfer an embryo if I had none to freeze (despite this being a preservation cycle).

Dr. Zeigler was a great doctor and an overall likeable person. We didn't always see eye to eye on protocol, but he agreed to follow my lead. I'll never forget his kindness through it all and he was never bothered by my extreme anxiety...took time to answer my questions at every appointment, explained throughly, and had wonderful bedside manner during my laparoscopy/hysteroscopy.
When I was new to the [Reproductive Science Center of NJ] clinic, they sometimes acted like I new all about reproductive science. There were more than a few miscommunications and even near the end of my time at the clinic, my chart was still incorrect. I had to correct them every time we talked through my history.

Describe the protocols William Ziegler used in your cycles at Reproductive Science Center of New Jersey and their degree of success.
I was told after my laparoscopy/hysteroscopy that IVF was my only option due to my tubes being misshapen from endometriosis and adhesions. I pushed back and asked for one more cycle of injectables (Gonal F 150) but added prednisone and decided to try IUI. It was a success and I delivered a healthy baby boy in May of 2021.

They truly want to help. When the pandemic hit and elective procedures were banned, my depression was pretty bad. I knew I was unlikely to conceive without the surgery and watching the news day after day, waiting for elective procedures to be possible again was really hard. They called me the day they knew they were allowed to operate again because "they knew how anxious I was to have it done". So someone took note, made the call, made it happen, and now I have my miracle baby.
Describe the costs associated with your care under William Ziegler at Reproductive Science Center of New Jersey.
The surgery was the most expensive, followed by the injectables.

Describe the specific things that went wrong at Reproductive Science Center of New Jersey.
They could never understand why I wanted to do medicated/timed intercourse cycles. And they always recorded these cycles incorrectly in my chart. The first cycle, they made me order a trigger shot, never explained what I should do with it, so when I got a positive OPK I was all excited, called ready to use this expensive trigger shot, and they go "Oh no, if you've got a positive opk you can't use the trigger shot" that was for earlier. So I was annoyed I spent money on a trigger shot and was never instructed how to use it.

Dr. Martinez greeted me by name, and remembered previous conversations we had at each appointment. He also remembered my history between cycles and pregnancies, and didn't have to rely just on my charts...very compassionate and trust worthy doctor. When one of our cycles failed he personally called us to discuss why he thought it failed and what our next steps would be. He provided as much information as I requested and always answered my questions. He made me feel comfortable in his care.
Dr. Martinez is a strength of this clinic [Reproductive Science Center of NJ], Dr. Zeigler is as well. I do think the office can get a little hectic, so as a first time patient it can be overwhelming...It is office policy to implant one embryo for the age bracket I was in. I do believe if I pushed to transfer two, we would have been given that option.

Mr. Martinez was a very compassionate and trust worthy doctor. When one of our cycles failed he personally called us to discuss why he thought it failed and what our next steps would be. He provided as much information as I requested and always answered my questions. He made me feel comfortable in his care.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Alan Martinez at Reproductive Science Center of New Jersey?
Go in with your own knowledge of what you want and be up front with Dr. Martinez. He has the same goal as you, to result in a healthy pregnancy, and will do all in his power to get you there.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Alan Martinez at Reproductive Science Center of New Jersey?
Dr. Martinez greeted me by name, and remembered previous conversations we had at each appointment. He also remembered my history between cycles and pregnancies, and didn't have to rely just on my charts.
Describe the protocols Alan Martinez used in your cycles at Reproductive Science Center of New Jersey and their degree of success.
Dr. Martinez started me on Clomid for my first IUI cycle, he believed this was a good entry level attempt for pregnancy. This is also required by a lot of insurance companies. After my first IUI failed and we had to cancel the second round due to cysts on my ovaries did some digging into my insurance. I found out I was not required to do IUI's prior to IVF, and per my discussions with Dr. Martinez, I knew IVF should be our next approach. Dr. Martinez listened to my reasons and he agreed. I believe Dr. Martinez put me on the best protocol for my history and what we knew about my infertility diagnosis.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at Reproductive Science Center of New Jersey.
There were a few nurses in the clinic that would see patients. At my first visit with my meds before my IVF cycle, I expected my nurse to review everything, but she never did. It was assumed I knew how to take all of my meds. There were also times the nurses forgot to tell me something passed on from the doctor.
Describe your experience with Reproductive Science Center of New Jersey.
Dr. Martinez is a strength of this clinic, Dr. Zeigler is as well. I do think the office can get a little hectic, so as a first time patient it can be overwhelming. Don't be afraid to ask for further instructions or help.
Describe your experience with your monitoring appointments at Reproductive Science Center of New Jersey.
There would be a small line waiting for the office to open, but the line always went fast. You could also go to any of the three offices for the morning appointment.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Alan Martinez at Reproductive Science Center of New Jersey.
I do believe the costs for Dr. Martinez were in line with other facilities. I did not shop around, but I don't think they had any extra hidden fees.

I think he [Dr. William Ziegler] is a caring and good natured doctor. He seems very smart and knowledgeable in this field...always willing to give time to give a detailed explanation of every step. Every visit always ended with a hug. Results of pregnancy tests were given by phone call directly from him...although I did get pregnant three out of four times. Two were a chemical and one was a miscarriage...
I liked that they [Reproductive Science Center of New Jersey] had convenient hours and locations. Everything seemed clean and up to date...I have had some very good nurses and some not so good. Everyone is generally nice, my main issue was things not always being communicated to me properly...Results of pregnancy tests were given by phone call directly from [Dr. William Ziegler] not a nurse.
How was your experience with William Ziegler at Reproductive Science Center of New Jersey?
I think he is a caring and good natured doctor. He seems very smart and knowledgeable in this field. Unfortunately I did not have a baby through his treatments. I assume it wasn’t anything he did, I feel it is my body.

The retrieval was 13 days of gonal f, menopur, Lupron, and Lovenox. Transfers were birth control, Lupron, progesterone, estrogen, lovenox, and foltabs.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at Reproductive Science Center of New Jersey.
I have had some very good nurses and some not so good. Everyone is generally nice, my main issue was things not always being communicated to me properly. Nothing major but there were some mistakes that I thankfully caught along the way.
Describe your experience with Reproductive Science Center of New Jersey.
I was very happy with the clinic. I liked that they had convenient hours and locations. Everything seemed clean and up to date. The three doctors that work there all seem pretty good. My doctor was Dr Zeigler but I also had Dr Mensah perform a few procedures. I met doctor Martinez once but I didn’t care for him much. He was nice but not a good fit for me. He was my last appointment before a transfer and he questioned things my doctor were doing and told me he wasn’t sure this was a good transfer. I was so far in and it wasn’t being rescheduled I feel he only added stress to my situation. Overall i would recommend them. I must add that although I did get pregnant three out of four times. Two were a chemical and one was a miscarriage. I do not have a living child from treatments.
Describe your experience with your monitoring appointments at Reproductive Science Center of New Jersey.
They were between 7-8 am either location and ran very smooth. I never was there more than a half hour.
Describe the costs associated with your care under William Ziegler at Reproductive Science Center of New Jersey.
I don’t remember the costs. I will say a lot was covered with insurance. I do know what wasn’t was expected to be paid in full. No discounts
Describe William Ziegler's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Reproductive Science Center of New Jersey.
We only did single transfer but I wish the last one we did more than one. He recommended against it so I followed that recommendation.

He [Dr. William Ziegler] spoke to us so we would understood .. broke everything down completely. He was VERY responsive to phone calls. Made us feel like we were his only patients...He took us straight to our best route. He didn’t push any unnecessary testing. He never made us feel like we were making the wrong decision. I truly feel he had our best interest. The only downfall is his office appointments in Toms River are limited (which is probably irrelevant)considering he was always available in Eatontown . I can’t wait to meet with him again in the near future for a consult.
[The nurses at Reproductive Science Center of New Jersey are] Very real. Very helpful. Very talkative. I felt comfortable confiding in them if I wasn’t sure what was going on during the visit...Strengths- friendly environment/ overall pleasant happy staff (they will remember you) Weakness - all situational (where you live — office hours for Toms River testing) .. cost of extra testing and storage but that’s probably the same everywhere but they are completely transparent with it.
How was your experience with William Ziegler at Reproductive Science Center of New Jersey?
I wouldn’t change a thing with our experience. I went through 5 rounds of chlomid with my OBgyn. He took us straight to our best route.

Oh man. Ok so we used a million shots ... so many shots. I can’t remember the specifics I’m just so glad it was successful. We started treatment in maybe March/April. Retrieval was in July. Transfer in August. The last medication I have on my fridge is menopure. I remember using a vaginal to build my lining towards the end but can’t remember the name (it wasn’t as terrible as everyone makes it seem). I am/will do this all over again.

Dr. Martinez always took the time to explain everything in detail, and in a way that hopeful and friendly and understandable...I feel like he truly cares about his patients and works hard to get the best results possible... ran a VERY through pregnancy-loss panel of blood tests, and has tweaked my treatment for the next transfer. We are hopeful that the next FET will be a success!...I had to have one of my fallopian tubes removed, as well as some endometriosis and polyps. I felt so reassured, having him as my surgeon as well as my IVF doctor. He is very patient, and will explain everything in as much detail as you need. I have never felt rushed in my appointments with him and he always takes the time to make sure I am feeling good and positive every step of the way. I feel like he truly cares about his patients and works hard to
The clinic [Reproductive Science Center of New Jersey] is fairly new, clean and nice. Everyone on staff is friendly...I have never had to wait long for an appointment!...Domenica [nurse] has been so kind and helpful during our second go at IVF and FET. She emails me right back, answers all my calls and many questions! She goes out of he way to make sure the appointment schedule works best for me...We paid a lump sum that included the egg retrieval, ICSI, an FET cycle and assisted hatching. We paid separate for medication at Mandell's Pharmacy.
How was your experience with Alan Martinez at Reproductive Science Center of New Jersey?
Dr Martinez is the sweetest, most caring doctor I've ever had. I had to have one of my fallopian tubes removed, as well as some endometriosis and polyps. I felt so reassured, having him as my surgeon as well as my IVF doctor. He is very patient, and will explain everything in as much detail as you need. I have never felt rushed in my appointments with him and he always takes the time to make sure I am feeling good and positive every step of the way. What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Alan Martinez at Reproductive Science Center of New Jersey?
Ask as many questions as you like, he will answer all of them!
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Alan Martinez at Reproductive Science Center of New Jersey?
Dr. Martinez always took the time to explain everything in detail, and in a way that hopeful and friendly and understandable. He is very caring and empathetic.
Describe the protocols Alan Martinez used in your cycles at Reproductive Science Center of New Jersey and their degree of success.
When we first came to Dr. Martinez, I had a tubal blockage that I knew I would have to be surgically removed. He explained everything to me, and I felt very confident going into the surgery. Afterwards, I wanted to try to get pregnant naturally (with one fallopian tube remaining), and he never pressured me to start IVF right away. A few months later, we were more mentally prepared to start the IVF process and again, he explained every step and was very patient with us. During our first egg retrieval, we had a very sudden death in the family, which I do think affected our outcome—we had about 9 eggs retrieved and only one embryo that made it to day 5. We did another egg retrieval round and Dr. Martinez tweaked my protocol (I believe it was a long lupron cycle). This time we got 9 eggs again, but 5 made it to day 5, so we had 6 embryos total. We did PGS and had 3 viable embryos after the testing. Our first FET was successful, and I gave birth to a healthy baby boy in 2017. Now we are trying for our second, with 2 embryos left. We transferred in February, and I did get pregnant, but the pregnancy didn't continue after week 7. Dr. Martinez ran a VERY through pregnancy-loss panel of blood tests, and has tweaked my treatment for the next transfer. We are hopeful that the next FET will be a success!
Describe your experience with your nurse at Reproductive Science Center of New Jersey. (Assigned nurse: Domenica)
Domenica has been so kind and helpful during our second go at IVF and FET. She emails me right back, answers all my calls and many questions! She goes out of he way to make sure the appointment schedule works best for me.
Describe your experience with Reproductive Science Center of New Jersey.
The clinic is fairly new, clean and nice. Everyone on staff is friendly... there used to be a receptionist that was a little surly, but I think she is gone now. I have never had to wait long for an appointment!
Describe your experience with your monitoring appointments at Reproductive Science Center of New Jersey.
Morning monitoring/blood work is from 7-8am. Sometimes there can be up to 10 people who come in, that I've seen. They move pretty quickly, doesn't take too long once you get there.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Alan Martinez at Reproductive Science Center of New Jersey.
Our first IVF round was out-of-pocket. We paid a lump sum that included the egg retrieval, ICSI, an FET cycle and assisted hatching. We paid separate for medication at Mandell's Pharmacy. This time around, we are covered by insurance, so I only make copayments when I see the doctor (not for monitoring) and medications are covered.
Describe Alan Martinez's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Reproductive Science Center of New Jersey.
Dr. Martinez was/is of the mind that one embryo transferred at a time was the right course of action for us.

Dr. Ziegler is like a member of the family - even when things don't go as well as you hope he is honest and supportive and helps you make the best decision possible for you and your family...no matter how hard the case he will do what he can to help you... We have had a rocky road but he has been the one constant source of support throughout a process that not many understand or can help you through. I would say the one limitation is the size of the practice which means patients have to be batched - this can take more time for treatment but I believe this is a very common practice in the industry. Dr. Ziegler is honest and very up to date on the latest research and will give you the honest story on things that may be trending but not clinically validated.
They [nurses at Reproductive Science Center of New Jersey] have been great to me throughout the process...[monitoring hours were] Very convenient and didn't take away from work which was great. Never took more than a half hour...He [Dr. Ziegler] actively follows the guidelines as outlined by SART etc. Single embryo was used with pgs. With non-pgs he follows age based guidelines.

Describe the protocols William Ziegler used in your cycles at Reproductive Science Center of New Jersey and their degree of success.
Birth Control for 2-3 weeks overlap with low dose lupron 20 units Lupron only for 4 days Stimulation using Follistim/Gonal- F - 225 units (on cycle 2 we went up to 300 half way through Stim) menopur 75 units (on cycle 2 went up to 150 units half way through) estrogen from 2- 6 mg increasing overtime Doxycycline 2X per day for 4 days Medrol - 3 days Progesterone Ethyloleate 1ml - 5 days pre-transfer Crinone - day after transfer Expected decent response - increase happened when not responding as well as first round. Round 1 - 14 eggs harvested, 10 mature, 8 fertilized, 4 non pgs tested embryos FET transfer 2 years later - two embryos - ended in miscarriage at 10 weeks - one identified trisomy 15 2 remaining 3AA and 4BB embryos Endometrial Receptivity Analysis - Receptive Round 2 - 14 eggs harvested 13 mature 10 fertilized 2 blastocyst 1 PGS normal, one trisomy 11 and 22 FET - transferred one embryo - negative test What we have discovered - my blood pressure and thyroid react poorly to estrogen - we now know moving forward to test thyroid frequently and be on BP meds ahead of FET cycle. Interestingly, my body handles a retrieval better than the FET meds - we are considering a fresh transfer as a next step.
Describe your experience with your nurse at Reproductive Science Center of New Jersey. (Assigned nurse: Heather and Hina )
Very supportive - gave me their own water bottle so I could pee for a test. They have been great to me throughout the process.
Describe your experience with Reproductive Science Center of New Jersey.
Extremely family oriented approach with strong clinical background. Size is potentially a challenge for patient batching. Dr. Mensah and Ziegler are wonderful - Martinez is very nice but can sometimes not be as detailed or take things as seriously. Facilities are beautiful and well thought out.

Did not opt for PGS this first time [with Dr. William Ziegler] but will do so in our next round. Male factor was the reason why we used ICSI...is a total professional and really helps to try and explain the procedures and process. He's a straight shooter for sure and tells you how it is. I'm someone who needs a bit more delicate bedside manner but he still made me feel like he's on my team and there to make things work. He's called me after hours multiple times just to make sure he touched base and let me know what's next.
The timing [of monitoring appointments at Reproductive Science Center of New Jersey] was pretty convenient for me and most of the time it ran like a well-oiled machine. I was in and out within 15-30 minutes usually...Really like this clinic. They're timely and responsive. They all move pretty quickly through my appointments - haven't had to wait an excessive amount of time to get an appointment and they tend to explain things pretty well. My biggest complaint is informing me about timing - while I understand that things can change during a cycle - I would like to know a roundabout timeframe of when I can expect next processes. Understanding where the process is going and how long each aspect will take would really help me to understand where I'm at.

They were very quick to answer my questions when I called and left me instructions I needed. I would have liked to see them check in more periodically during the cycle.

Dr. Ziegler is very thorough and explains everything to you. He never makes you feel stupid or lost. He goes over every step and explains every detail. I was overwhelmed when I started IVF. He always made sure I understood and would write everything down. After my lap surgery he contacted me the next day to check in.... He immediately understood our situation/concerns and was very easy to speak with. He made us feel very welcomed and at ease.
They [the nurses at Reproductive Science Center of New Jersey] were very friendly and helpful. They never gave me information that was crucial without checking with the doctor first. They do need to practice better communication.... we did 10 days of stim medications/injections. I cannot remember the exact meds. I think I used Gonal F, menapour, estradiol and PIO. I used Pregnyl for the trigger. I believe I had to do 3 days of Ganirelix. Whatever I did do it worked because we retrieved 22 eggs! And out of 22 eggs we had 4 perfect embryos!

Strengths - very welcoming, caring, understanding, knowledgeable, makes you feel at ease, friendly and all around makes you feel hopeful. The waiting room time is very limited and the office is clean. Weaknesses - the doctors schedule is busy so you may have to wait between appts if they are not "scheduled" procedures.

My insurance covers 90% of everything. I think for total of 2016 between co pays, IUI, lap surgery and IVF I paid about $3000.
Describe William Ziegler's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Reproductive Science Center of New Jersey.
He was very strict with how many we could transfer based on my age and the embryo quality. He follows the guidelines. He did go over both single and multiple.

I felt Dr. Martinez couldn't do enough for us. He always made himself available and even took time to call me with my results...I could not say enough wonderful things about Dr. Martinez he took time to make sure we understood everything ever step of the way. He never pressured us or swayed us one way or another he gave us straight facts and let us do what we felt was most comfortable.
With the iuis that was covered under our insurance. With ivf our insurance does not cover anything but they did absolutely try for us. We paid out of pocket so far around $18,000 and I haven't regretted it. We are still undergoing our ivf journey...I love that I can call up [Reproductive Science Center] with any question or concern no matter how crazy and they always take my concern with full attention. I have never felt alone in this whole process I actually feel like they are rooting for me each step of the way.

Dr. Martinez has always been great about explaining every step of the process and not rushing us during appointments. We have had a really hard time through this process (have been able to retrieve eggs, create embryos, but then they never make it to Day 5) and when we've received bad news he shows genuine care and concern. He is the one who will call with both good and bad news. From Day 1 meeting him he made us feel comfortable and that he cared.
[nurse at Reproductive Science Center of New Jersey] was wonderful - I called her the vein whisperer. She was the only one able to draw blood from my tiny veins. She was compassionate and took pride in her work...issues with other nurses, specifically after my first retrieval relaying information regarding my results...It felt very unprofessional. I informed Dr. Martinez what happened at our next appointment and he made sure I always got my results directly from him.
How was your experience with Alan Martinez at Reproductive Science Center of New Jersey?
He is very compassionate and explains the process very well. With each set back we've had, he's taken the time to sit down with us and develop a game plan for the next treatment. A previous doctor I visited made me feel stupid and talked down to me as if I was a child - it was horrible. Not once has Dr. Martinez made me feel anything close to that previous experience.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Alan Martinez at Reproductive Science Center of New Jersey?
Don't be afraid to ask questions because he will answer them for you, no matter how silly you think they are.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Alan Martinez at Reproductive Science Center of New Jersey?

Describe the protocols Alan Martinez used in your cycles at Reproductive Science Center of New Jersey and their degree of success.
Retrieval Cycle 1: Based on my bloodwork, my PCOs and my age, the first cycle was an antagonist cycle. Follistim (150 units), Menopur (1 vial) and Ganirelix. We retrieved 14 eggs, fertilized 10, and 0 embryos made it to Day 5. Retrieval Cycle 2: The results of the first cycle were a bit of a shock because throughout the first cycle everything went as smoothly as anticipated. Since none of my embryos made it past Day 5, Dr. Martinez changed my protocol to a downregulation cycle to help with the egg quality. Follistim (225 units), Menopur (1 vial), and Lupron. I also started taking 600mg of CoQ10. We retrieved 12 eggs, fertilized 10, and 1 embryo made it to Day 5. We did genetic testing and the embryo was abnormal. Retrieval Cycle 3: We decided to take some time off since we did Cycle 1 & 2 back to back. Dr. Martinez was understanding of our decision to take time off and thought it would be beneficial to take a break. He recommended continuing with the CoQ10. After a 4 month break, we did Cycle 3. We utilized the same protocol as Cycle 2 because he believed I made less eggs that were of a better quality (based on the 10 fertilized embryo results this was true despite the final one abnormal embryo). We retrieved 17 eggs, fertilized 8 successfully, and 1 embryo made it to Day 5. We did genetic testing and the embryo was normal. FET 1: Lupron, Estace, Progesterone, Crinone. We just found out our transfer failed. He was upfront in letting us know that 60 - 70% of transfers are successful. We will be pursuing a fourth retrieval cycle once our clinic opens up again.
Describe your experience with your nurse at Reproductive Science Center of New Jersey. (Assigned nurse: Michelle, Marianella)
Marinella was the main nurse at the Lawrenceville office and she was wonderful - I called her the vein whisperer. She was the only one able to draw blood from my tiny veins. She was compassionate and took pride in her work. I did have issues with other nurses, specifically after my first retrieval relaying information regarding my results. The nurse coordinator Michelle should have made those calls to me directly but instead I had to call the office.
Describe your experience with Reproductive Science Center of New Jersey.
There are multiple offices and if you work with the Lawrenceville staff be prepared to drive to Eatontown for specific appointments and procedures. The nurses are very attentive (Marianella especially). It might be hard to take to contact specific nurses when you call however.
Describe your experience with your monitoring appointments at Reproductive Science Center of New Jersey.
It was first come, first serve from 7:00am to 8:00am. I had no problem with this since I always showed up at 7:00am. Depending on the day I could be first in line or fifth in line. I really didn't mind that much.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Alan Martinez at Reproductive Science Center of New Jersey.
Retrieval 1: $17,200 Retrieval 2: $11,547 Retrieval 3 with transfer: $13,637 We paid upfront for a Retrieval and 1 FET which was $17,200. Since we weren't able to do a transfer, we had a credit that rolled over to our second retrieval and then to our third retrieval.
Describe Alan Martinez's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Reproductive Science Center of New Jersey.
This has not been an issue since we have never had more than one embryo. Dr. Martinez is most comfortable transferring one - however he is open to doing multiple embryo transfers if the Day 5 embryos are good enough for a fresh transfer but would not necessarily work for a frozen transfer. This works for me.
What specific things went wrong at Reproductive Science Center of New Jersey?
  • Failed to call with results
  • Failed to convey critical information
Describe the specific things that went wrong at Reproductive Science Center of New Jersey.
After my first retrieval, the nurse coordinator failed to call with my embryo results. Dr. Martinez wanted to wait to see how my embryos would develop to Day 6. He told me the nurse would contact me with the results. By 3:00pm no one had called me. I called the office and the nurse transferred me to a lab tech who gave me my results (which were negative). It felt very unprofessional. I informed Dr. Martinez what happened at our next appointment and he made sure I always got my results directly from him.

Dr. Martinez took the time to answer our questions and took all of our concerns into consideration during the plan for our retrieval. He made sure we left our appointments feeling empowered with as much information as possible for each step of the process...He was polite, professional,-and answered our questions and concerns. He also did a thorough job in evaluating all potential issues that can affect fertility. He guided us throughout the process of egg retrieval and had a thorough explanation of what to expect when our embryos were fertilized.
The front desk personnel [at Reproductive Science Center of New Jersey] are professional, caring, and friendly. They made going in for early morning bloodwork easy and effortless. The staff doing the blood draws were professional and friendly. Our experiences with the nurses during the retrieval procedure were positive. Unfortunately, there were some instances where the staff was not professional, but those issues were addressed and corrected in a timely fashion. Also, the staff could have explained issues related to billing and insurance more clearly and effectively.

Overall, we had a positive experience with Dr. Martinez. He was polite, professional,-and answered our questions and concerns. He also did a thorough job in evaluating all potential issues that can affect fertility. He guided us throughout the process of egg retrieval and had a thorough explanation of what to expect when our embryos were fertilized. Prior to our transfer being canceled due to Covid-19, he further explained what to expect for our transfer cycle and made sure to answer all of our questions and concerns.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Alan Martinez at Reproductive Science Center of New Jersey?
You should not be afraid to ask questions. He will take the time to answer all your concerns.

Dr. Martinez took the time to answer our questions and took all of our concerns into consideration during the plan for our retrieval. He made sure we left our appointments feeling empowered with as much information as possible for each step of the process.
Describe the protocols Alan Martinez used in your cycles at Reproductive Science Center of New Jersey and their degree of success.
For our retrieval cycle, we used a long protocol. Our stimulating medicines were Gonal-F and Menopur. Dr. Martinez took my AMH level into consideration for my medication dosage, but increased my dosing after my first ultrasound and bloodwork because my ovaries were not responding as they hoped. Prior to the trigger shot (HCG), my ultrasound showed that I had seventeen follicles with a potential of twelve eggs that would be retrieved. After retrieval, we ended with seven total eggs retrieved and, in our post-retrieval consultation, Dr. Martinez explained that we would start with a higher dosage of stim medications to help with follicle production and growth in the future.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at Reproductive Science Center of New Jersey.
For the most part, they were attentive to our questions and concerns. However, this attribute was not consistent with every member of the nursing staff. Thus, we had some negative experiences that caused us to raise concerns with Dr. Martinez.

Describe your experience with your monitoring appointments at Reproductive Science Center of New Jersey.
The monitoring appointments were generally well run such that there was not significant wait time for any particular appointment. At most, there were two to three other patients with appointments during that same window. Outside of the one scheduling issue, there were no other appointments that carried a significant wait time.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Alan Martinez at Reproductive Science Center of New Jersey.
The prescribed medications during the retrieval process were paid out-of-pocket for a total cost of about $6,100.00. Our insurance partially covered the IVF cycle itself. The total cost for us that was not covered by insurance totaled roughly $5,150.00, which included assisted hatching and PGS. Our total out-of-pocket cost for our retrieval cycle was $11,250.00. Our transfer medications were around $2,500.00.
Describe Alan Martinez's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Reproductive Science Center of New Jersey.
Dr. Martinez recommended a single embryo transfer due to: (1) my age (younger than 38); and (2) my anatomy (I have a bicornuate uterus) which makes it risker to carry multiple s.
What specific things went wrong at Reproductive Science Center of New Jersey?
  • Lost appointments
Describe the specific things that went wrong at Reproductive Science Center of New Jersey.
There was a miscommunication that lead to us arriving for an ultrasound that was scheduled by one staff member, but was not on the main schedule for the clinic so that the person performing the ultrasound was aware of that appointment. This issue lead to a significant wait time, but the ultrasound was eventually performed that morning.

Dr. Martinez went as far as writing numerous letters to the VA clinics and health insurance to help us with trying to get coverage...Dr. Martinez takes as much time as needed to cover all the patient's concerns and to get all the info needed to help them...Be ready to wait and work through all the check ups - it is worth the time Dr. Martinez takes...Dr. Martinez decided that our best way to conceive would be through IVF and ICIS and that it would give us the highest chance of working. Before we could start any treatment, he sent me to have my iron and blood checked out to get cleared before starting the procedure.
The nurses [at Reproductive Science Center of NJ] were just as professional and friendly as Dr. Martinez. They took their time and were sensitive towards our feelings and what we were about to go through...Because of our insurance, we were only covered for appointments and testing to see what our chances of getting pregnant alone were. After that, Dr. Martinez and his staff came up with different options to help us with costs of IVF.
How was your experience with Alan Martinez at Reproductive Science Center of New Jersey?

When my husband I and came back to the clinic in 2017 Dr. Martinez was new to us. From the first visit on, we felt comfortable with him and felt like he truly cared about our wellbeing and the outcome. He was understanding, patient, compassionate and kind through my entire cycle with him. When my transfer last year did not turn out successfully, he called multiple times to check on my status and wellbeing. I knew that when we were ready to try again, he was going to be my doctor.
I mainly saw Tiffany and Marianela in Lawrenceville [RSC of NJ], who are the best! They both were informative, compassionate and caring. They always took interest and just made me feel comfortable. The nurses in Eatontown are also really great. During my last procedure Heather was really great and helped me get through a difficult retrival. I can't say enough good things about the nursing staff, they are one of a kind.
How was your experience with Alan Martinez at Reproductive Science Center of New Jersey?
I was a patient of Reproductive Science Center starting in 2011 or 2012. The doctor, who is no longer with the practice, was less than satisfactory to say the least. She had no bedside manner and just felt cold. I ultimately got pregnant by another doctor during that time frame and had my first child. Today was my last visit with him and I've had mixed emotions because while I want to move on and grow my pregnancy the "normal" way, I wish he and the nurses could see this pregnancy all the way through. I've never felt more comfortable with a doctor than I have with Dr. Martinez. It's a very invasive and stressful time and you want someone to have your back and that's how I've felt every step of the way. I would recommend Dr. Martinez to anyone that is going through this experience. He is simply the best!
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Alan Martinez at Reproductive Science Center of New Jersey?
Be patient and trust that Dr. Martinez will guide you in the right direction. Even if things don't turn out the way you want them to, trust that he has your best interest in mind.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Alan Martinez at Reproductive Science Center of New Jersey?
Dr. Martinez and the team of nurses in both Lawrenceville and Eatontown, while incredibly busy, always made me feel like they were devoting all their attention to me. I'd watch countless patients come and go and I always felt special when I was working with them.

Describe your experience with Reproductive Science Center of New Jersey.
I don't have many bad things to say about the clinic. The only improvement I might suggest is through the billing department. Sometimes, I'd receive conflicting information when asking questions, however I do understand that this is a complicated topic so I took it all with a grain of salt. A strength is that its seems as though overall the staff is incredibly compassionate, caring and knowledgeable.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Alan Martinez at Reproductive Science Center of New Jersey.
For my first treatment cycle with Dr. Martinez, my prescription medication maximum was met so I ended up paying around $6,000. My second cycle, I've only had to pay a few hundred dollars as my insurance renewed because of some special circumstances.
Describe Alan Martinez's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Reproductive Science Center of New Jersey.
Dr. Martinez, my husband and I discussed this in depth and we decided given my history and current state that transferring multiple embryos was the best course for us.

I had no issue with Dr. Martinez at all. He's always been great every time I talked to him. Always willing to explain anything and everything I asked him.... At the time I was trying to get pregnant on my own and using Donor Sperm. I tried 3 IUI cycles where all 3 times my eggs just weren't growing to a large enough size (I believe it's 10mm+?) they needed to be to proceed with using the Donor Sperm for any of the cycles. Luckily my Insurance is top notch and covered all my treatments and Meds for the IUI cycles. Having been unsuccessful the clinic suggested using a Donor Egg and my existing Donor Sperm

Out of the 6 eggs that were fertilized only 1 survived which was used for the IVF cycle; unsuccessfully implanted so now I'm back to where I was with no baby, in debt and locked into my Company and job until it's paid back in 5 yrs. :( I'm taking a break right now struggling with the lack of baby and what I'm going to do next.

Success w/ Doc Too early to know
He has been very through and has answered all questions. The consults have been very informative. I am overweight and I know Dr. Martinez should mention that losing weight would help fertility issues but I felt like he was a little judgmental and I felt like I was being blamed for issues. I know that was not his intention but that is how I felt.... When I asked why I had to go on birth control before IVF, the response was that they had to control my cycle because there are so many egg retrievals in the office.
They [RSC of NJ] communicate well, it's easy to make an appointment and they are kind. Sometimes I feel rushed. They also only do procedures at the Eatontown office which is far from where I live. When having iuis I asked for a little bit later appointment (it was 7am) due to the distance we were driving and they would not accommodate us.... I once got bloodwork done to check progesterone and they did not call to tell me the results, however they did post on the patient portal.

Ask questions.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Alan Martinez at Reproductive Science Center of New Jersey?
There have been a few times where I felt rushed because the office was busy. I also felt like some of the appointments, like a pre-op appointment could have been combined with another appointment because all I did was sign paperwork and had to pay a copay. When I asked why I had to go on birth control before IVF, the response was that they had to control my cycle because there are so many egg retrievals in the office. Other times he was wonderful and did treat me like a human.

$40 specialist copay each time (except for bloodwork). $200 hospital bill for hysteroscopy. $240 each month for iui for the medication - we did this 3 times.
