Attention to Detail

Attention to detail is on a 1 - 10 scale, and is scored based on the rate, and severity, of errors committed by the clinic according to the patients.

For example, a severe error might be failing to inform a patient of critical information, while a small error might be failing to call a patient with results.

CDC Success Rates

This is the most recent data from the CDC. The CDC cautions that it should not be used to compare doctors and clinics. This data represents the outcomes of IVF cycles when using a person's own eggs.

For more information please see our FAQs.

Where you see a “?” on the chart, a clinic has done fewer than 20 cycles in this category and age range, so the CDC says showing percentages from this small data set would be misleading and unreliable.

Under the care of Dr. Kuokkanen, I undeniably felt like a person, not just a number. Her remarkable ability to remember specific details of my medical history and connect with me on a personal level set her apart. While I don't expect this level of personalized care from all doctors, Dr. Kuokkanen has set a new standard for how patients should be treated. She has truly been an exceptional doctor, and I couldn't be more satisfied with her care.
The [NYU Langone Reproductive Specialists of New York] clinic is a clean and pleasant environment, with a friendly and accommodating staff. However, the standout feature of the clinic is undoubtedly the exceptional doctors who provide top-notch care. If I had to choose an area where there could be improvement would possibly be the messaging service. I understand that the clinic must get a large amount of calls a day, and when the front desk is unable to answer your call the messaging service may not always recognize the urgency of certain calls. However, the staff within the clinic is very knowledgeable and friendly.
How was your experience with Satu Kuokkanen at NYU Langone Reproductive Specialists of New York?
Undergoing IVF is a complex and emotional journey. While many people in my life expressed sympathy for the challenges it presented, I have only ever felt incredibly fortunate and grateful to have found Dr. Kuokkanen, an extraordinary doctor who has given me the most precious gift in the world. Despite encountering a few complications along the way, Dr. Kuokkanen not only resolved these issues but did so with a high level of professionalism and a calm demeanor that instilled hope and trust within me. She performed a range of procedures, including egg retrieval, embryo transfers, D&C, polyp removal, and more. Witnessing her extensive knowledge and expertise in performing these diverse operations left me in awe. With each surgery, Dr. Kuokkanen ensured that we maintained a sense of control and never wavered in our pursuit of success. I am so grateful for the countless hours she devoted to addressing challenges and devising strategies to reach the ultimate goal of bringing a baby into this world. To Dr. Kuokkanen, I owe an immeasurable debt of gratitude.

Describe the protocols Satu Kuokkanen used in your cycles at NYU Langone Reproductive Specialists of New York and their degree of success.
Under Dr. Satu Kuokkanen's care, my IVF journey involved a personalized approach that included specific medications such as Lovenox injections, progesterone, and estrogen to ensure a successful embryo transfer. Additionally, Dr. Kuokkanen performed various crucial procedures, including D&Cs, polyp removal, and addressing a uterine lining defect. One significant instance was when she detected the lining defect and guided me through the process. Dr. Kuokkanen was upfront about the risks and collaborated with other specialists for second opinions, ultimately making the decision to proceed with surgery. I'm immensely grateful for her proactive approach, as it led to a successful 37-week pregnancy. The most significant challenge I faced was discovering the lining defects after a miscarriage, necessitating specialized treatment. However, the positive outcome is the birth of my perfect baby girl. Through this experience, I've gained an overwhelming sense of gratitude—for Dr. Kuokkanen's exceptional care, for the gift of my baby, and for the journey itself.

Describe your experience with your monitoring appointments at NYU Langone Reproductive Specialists of New York.
My experience with monitoring appointments at the clinic was quite efficient. They had an organized waiting room system where upon arrival, you'd wait for your name to be called and were promptly directed to the appropriate examination room. Even on busy clinic days, I never had to wait longer than 10-15 minutes in the waiting room. It's evident that the clinic had an effective system in place to ensure timely and smooth appointments.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Satu Kuokkanen at NYU Langone Reproductive Specialists of New York.
For the initial years, my treatments were covered by insurance. However, during the final year, there was a change in my insurance coverage, and I found myself no longer covered. While this change was initially nerve-wracking, the actual costs turned out to be more manageable than I had anticipated. The frozen embryo transfer (FET) procedure cost approximately $4,200, and the additional care following a positive pregnancy test added roughly another $1,000 to the expenses. It's worth noting that I had the option to switch to another clinic covered by my insurance, but my trust in and attachment to Dr. Kuokkanen made me decide to stay at this facility and continue working with her. In hindsight, the cost was well worth it for the exceptional care I experienced.
Describe Satu Kuokkanen's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at NYU Langone Reproductive Specialists of New York.
Dr. Kuokkanen strongly recommended a cautious approach, advocating for a single embryo transfer. Her rationale was centered on achieving the best possible outcome while minimizing potential risks.

We were placed with Dr. Kuokanen, and I feel very lucky that we were! She is extremely knowledgeable about this field and was responsive to our MANY questions as well as supportive of us during this stressful time. Sometimes, she’d even reach us after hours just to make sure that she responded to our question within the same business day. She listened to my concerns and made sure that my treatment plan was something that I was comfortable with. And last but not least, with her help and guidance, we achieved a successful pregnancy!
The [NYU Langone Reproductive Specialists of New York] strengths would be the physicians here and the convenience being that they’re open really early in the morning (6am) and not many other clinics are. Also, most appointment are very quick, so you’re in and out, and can go about your day. What can sometimes be frustrating is not being able to reach a nurse or doctor directly and having to go through the call line. There were times when the office and I kept missing each other, and instead of being able to call them back at a direct line, so had to go through the call line and leave a message and wait again to hear back. I suggest they create a separate phone number for return calls.
How was your experience with Satu Kuokkanen at NYU Langone Reproductive Specialists of New York?
My husband and I tried conceiving naturally for one year without success and decided to seek help. My husband and I cannot be more grateful to her for all of her help, and we’d highly recommend her to anyone looking for a fertility specialist.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Satu Kuokkanen at NYU Langone Reproductive Specialists of New York?
If you have questions or if something isn’t clear or you’re concerned about something, don’t be afraid to speak up. Dr. Kuokanen will make sure your questions are answered and that you’re comfortable with the treatment plan. If you’re not, she’ll work with you. But since this is a confusing process, sometimes patients withdraw or just go through the motions without understanding what’s happening, and you don’t have to feel like you can’t ask questions if you have them.

Describe the protocols Satu Kuokkanen used in your cycles at NYU Langone Reproductive Specialists of New York and their degree of success.
My husband and I first went through fertility screening tests to pinpoint the reason we couldn’t conceive naturally. I did not want to do the radiation sonogram as part of the screening, so Dr. Kuokanen suggested a saline sonogram instead which I much preferred. Through this, we discovered that I had uterine polyps that were preventing implantation. Dr. Kuokanen performed the surgery to remove the polyps and removed them all. After that, we trying conceiving for a month or 2 without success and moved forward with IUI. I took Clomid prior to the IUI. It was successful and I got pregnant. However, shortly after, we discovered the embryo wasn’t viable and I needed to have a D&C which Dr. Kuokanen also performed. She also found out the reason for the miscarriage which was chromosomal, and laid out the options going forward which were IUI and IVF. I preferred to try 3 more IUIs (2 of which were natural IUIs without Clomid at my request) which failed. We then decided to move forward with IVF and she recommended we do genetic testing on the embryos as part of IVF to prevent any other miscarriages. We went through the process, and I took the necessary injections and medications. The retrieval went very well and we ended up with 9 embryos. After genetic testing, 6 were chromosomally normal and 3 were not, but I explained I wanted to keep them all, but only use the abnormal ones if absolutely needed. I also asked Kuokanen not to perform assisted hatching on the embryo we transfer back unless absolutely necessary to which she agreed and not assisted hatching took place. Kuokanen performed the transfer back which was successful and she monitored the pregnancy up until 8 weeks before release to ensure everything went well. Overall, I’m thrilled with the results, and I’m glad I had a doctor who acknowledged my concerns and was flexible to help me get through this stressful time.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at NYU Langone Reproductive Specialists of New York.
The nursing staff was efficient considering the amount of patients that they treated each day. However, due to the volume on given busy mornings, it wasn’t always possible for them to give you individualized attention or to answer questions in depth. But they were always kind, welcoming, and compassionate. The best way to find out the answers to your questions is to the call the hotline and have either the doctor or one of the nurses call you back when they don’t have so many patients waiting. I was impressed by how quickly they were able to see patients and how quickly I was in and out of the office on most occasions. I also love the early hours availability. Very convenient for me to be able to go before work!

Dr. Fritz treated me like a person and not just a patient...he was proactive in trying to figure out how to help me get pregnant and tried new things, new treatments, different drugs...found I had Endometritis...did a saline sonogram and mock transfer...doesn't go by the book and thinks outside the box. He treated the patient and understands everyone is different
[NYU Langone Reproductive Specialists of New York] are on top of it...sometimes you have to check in yourself...wish they had a better portal for chatting back and forth instead of calling every time you had a question, sometimes hard to reach. But the nurses were all very kind and caring!

Dr. Fritz treated me like a person and not just a patient. After many failed rounds at another clinic, he was proactive in trying to figure out how to help me get pregnant and tried new things, new treatments, different drugs. He doesn't just go by the book he thinks outside the box and won't give up on you. He is very warm and caring and kind. He's the best!
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Rani Fritz at NYU Langone Reproductive Specialists of New York?
Go see him! After two years of failed rounds and secondary infertility I now have a one week old baby girl because of Dr. Fritz. I am started to cry just thinking about it. He is an amazing doctor who won't give up on you.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Rani Fritz at NYU Langone Reproductive Specialists of New York?
Dr. Fritz was compassionate and caring. He took time with me to answer all my questions and ease my mind. He truly is the best doctor I ever had.
Describe the protocols Rani Fritz used in your cycles at NYU Langone Reproductive Specialists of New York and their degree of success.
Dr. Fritz did a biopsy on my uterus and found I had Endometritis, which is an infection in the uterus that could have caused my miscarriage from my other transfer with a different doctor. He then put me on three weeks of strong antibiotics to get rid of the infection. Because I had a low ovarian reserve, he wanted to make sure the uterus was in top shape before going for another embryo and possible transfer. He also did a saline sonogram and mock transfer, again, he wanted to be ready so if I got that embryo, everything else was in place for the transfer. He gave me more meds for my actual (6th round of IVF, 1st round with him). I did have 6 follicles (more than I ever had) but only got 2 eggs. But I do believe the meds he gave me helped get me more follicles than I ever did before because he doesn't go by the book and thinks outside the box. He treated the patient and understands everyone is different.

How was your experience with Rani Fritz at NYU Langone Reproductive Specialists of New York?
We came to Dr. Fritz and the team at NYU-Langone Reproductive Specialists after 2 IUIs and 2 IVF transfers without success. We got the feeling from our first meeting that the doctor was very warm and attentive and he remains so throughout our process. He explained to us the options on how we can move forward with pros and cons. We ended up doing a mock cycle/ERA test which potentially puts us at 1 day early for our embryo transfer. Though the ERA test's results is generally not definative, it gave us a potential next step in an otherwise unexplained journey. The doctor was clear with us on the test expectations and we proceeded with our 3rd IVF transfer based on the test's suggestion, which results in a pregnancy. Overall, our experience with Dr. Fritz and the team had been one of trust and extraordinary care. We can't thank him and everyone at NYU-Langone enough for bringing humanity and hope to our fertility journey.

How was your experience with Rani Fritz at NYU Langone Reproductive Specialists of New York?
Dr. Fritz is clearly a highly skilled doctor. There is no doubt that his expertise enabled me to freeze a really high number of eggs from one ovary without any serious side effects. He pays attention to and is clear about risks and closely monitored me to ensure there were no adverse side effects. On the basis of my results I would recommend him as a doctor. That said, I would tell anyone I recommend him to that he does not have good bedside manner and is not good at managing patients. He comes across as condescending, belittling and trying to be compassionate—in short, he falls short. But as a cancer patient with a short timeline, he achieved fantastic results and so I would recommend him.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Rani Fritz at NYU Langone Reproductive Specialists of New York?
Be prepared going in that he does not have good bedside manner, but don’t let that deter you from using him as a doctor as he is highly skilled.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Rani Fritz at NYU Langone Reproductive Specialists of New York?
I don’t know if it’s a lack of experience in managing patients with cancer or it’s the in and out nature of fertility clinics in general, but I felt very rushed and felt like I was talked down to when I had questions. Dr. Fritz and Kevin can be very condescending. I came out of appointments feeling belittled rather than empowered. I felt like the approach was very much we will tell you what to do, you listen, end of story. I also had to wait a long time for certain appointments (upwards of an hour), which I understand happens, but I think care should be given to a patient with a cancer diagnosis who in addition to work, waking up early for fertility appointments, and being on hormone injections, is also managing oncology appointments and the emotional toll of a cancer diagnosis.

Dr Kuokkanen is extremely intelligent and was able to provide a diagnosis and adjust the plans accordingly whereas the physicians I had seen prior did not. She worked with us well and was honest about expectations and included us fully in decision making. I felt very comfortable with her and would definitely recommend her to anyone I know who needed help with this...very kind, empathetic, and honest. I felt like she really listened to what I had to say and communicated well with me.
Good clinic [NYU Langone Reproductive Specialists of New York], is very busy but they are organized. For the monitoring appointments it can take a while but they are very thorough and you will feel well cared for. Phone calls were always returned in a timely manner which was really helpful. They were great about insurance authorizations, etc never had a delay in my meds getting approved.

Tried IUI twice without success, recommended to try IVF, tried once, poor egg quality, genetic testing done on embryos I did not feel comfortable with mosaic embryo and asked for another cycle, which she agreed to. Did another IVF cycle with some adjustments to protocol, I asked for modified natural cycle transfer, which was done with success!

Doctor [Dr. Rani Fritz] always showed warm bedside manner, always called back personally when we requested to speak with him directly...He showed compassion during hard news but also always showed continued hope that treatment would work, which was important to us...Started synthroid for borderline high TSH start of treatment. Menopur and follistim pen at first, then add cetrotide and then pregnyl trigger shot for egg retrieval. Husband referred to urologist for MFI. Husband started clomid. Did ERA cycle prior to transfer with estrogen patches and progesterone in oil. Replicated patches and PIO for frozen transfer and it worked!
[Nurses at NYU Langone Reproductive Specialists of New York] Kind and caring. Compassionate when it was needed most. Had an SCH early on after transfer and could not be more grateful for the compassion the nurses showed when I was scared...Long wait times for appointments, appointment times not always available when needed. However, I was doing IVF during a pandemic so not sure if this is the norm. Excellent online portal that provides all the information you need and/or forgot to write down when speaking to nurses. Their system is designed to help you not forget the many moving parts of fertility treatment.
How was your experience with Rani Fritz at NYU Langone Reproductive Specialists of New York?
So happy that Dr. Fritz was able to help us start our family. Feeling incredibly blessed that we only needed to do one round of IVF and one transfer due to his recommendations and expertise. Doctor Fritz always took the time to answer all questions, explain the process ,and listen to our concerns. He would present us with all of our options an respect and support the choices we made. He was always available to us even giving his cell phone number to contact and even answered when on vacation. When we had successes he genuinely felt excited and happy for us. He became more than just a doctor but a friend too.
The Mineola [NYU Langone] office was very big so sometimes you would have to wait a long time before being seen. I would go before work and at times it made me late to work because of how long I had to wait. The other offices were smaller and more intimate so I was in and out quicker...Most of the staff was compassionate and cared and would ask questions. Some of the nurses were not...It was more affordable than I expected. Insurance covered a good amount.
How was your experience with Rani Fritz at NYU Langone Reproductive Specialists of New York?
There are many things that make Dr Fritz an exceptional doctor. He would always take the time to make sure we understood exactly what we were going through and explain things in a way we understood. We never felt like we we rushed in our visits, he wanted to make sure we felt comfortable with our decisions and understood. He not only advised us from a medical logical point of view but it always felt like he cared as well and respected our wishes and how hard the process was. He always made us feel that we would get to our dream of having a child and not to give up. He was always available even when on vacation to support us and answer questions. We felt extremely comfortable with him.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Rani Fritz at NYU Langone Reproductive Specialists of New York?
Do not give up and believe in your doctors and what they tell you because if you are willing to follow their advice and fight they will get you there.

We had been to two fertility doctors before Dr Fritz and they had both misdiagnosed me. I had been going through treatments for over a year and also had one surgery to remove a fibroid and still had no luck getting pregnant so the next step was IUI or IVF and the doctor we were seeing didn’t do those procedures. From the first visit and my first sonogram Dr Fritz correctly diagnosed my reason for infertility. We went through one round of IUI which he said probably wouldn’t help the problem and it didn’t work. He respected that we didn’t want to waste time with it and wanted to go straight to IVF. Before beginning IVF he wanted to do surgery to remove as much of endometriosis as possible and endometrioma, which seemed to help because I got pregnant shortly after. We had one egg retrieval with him which was very successful and gave us 9 healthy embryos. We had one round of IVF which resulted in a pregnancy but I had a miscarriage. The second round we began but didn’t get to the transfer because of Covid it was cancelled. Finally the third round was successful and we now have a baby girl!

The hours [at NYU Langone Reproductive Specialists of New York] were very morning based. They have great hours for before work as they open up as early as 6:40 am. Afternoons were trickier, as are sonograms as the doctors don't come in until 8am so they cant take you before then...They [nurses] honestly knew me and were friendly and helpful every visit. As I already described, Dr. Fritz was professional as well as compassionate. His bedside manner left me feeling comfortable and confident. He was informative and patient, laid out all the options every time, was forthcoming with his opinion based on experience as well as the statistics. He made this trying experience as positive as it could possibly be and really went above and beyond as not only a doctor but a caring person.

We did a lot of tests to make sure we have a full picture of my reproductive situation as well as my husbands, including an HSG test, a fully updated genetic battery, a sperm test, and others I can't recall. We tried monitored planned natural intercourse, IUI cycles alone, and IUI with Femera. My situation was tricky as I have only one Fallopian tube and the doctor repeated all of our options including just being patient as my situation was going to make it just that much more challenging naturally. He helped me keep my wits and not get quite so anxious considering my circumstances. When a genetic marker did come up he really pushed us speaking with the experts in that field in order to make a fully informed decision as we moved forward. Finally, he clearly laid our our options and the pros and cons every single time so that we could make the decision that we were comfortable with - for instance we were more comfortable doing IUI without medication at first because the medication increases chances of multiples and it was fully our decision when we decided to use medication to increase the odds with my single fallopian tube situation. We discussed IVF but he was comfortable with us continuing IUI as the genetic counselors were supportive and with the understanding that my single fallopian tube might be a delay in itself. He just really laid out all the options and considered every angle with us every single month so we could come up with the best solution which made my husband and I the most comfortable.

Dr. Fritz was always good at explaining what was going on and what we were going to try next. Very compassionate and caring. The fact that he always called with results no matter positive or negative was so appreciated. Especially if they were negative you could right away discuss next steps and not have to wait for a next appointment or scheduled call.
Time management has gotten better. But sometimes the wait is very very long [at NYU Langone RS of NY]. It could be staffing. But you really have to get there very early if you need to get out on time to get to work. Overall, Everyone is very caring and attentive. They want to see you succeed...Dr. Fritz always contacted me himself with results or to answer a question. It was so appreciated and made you feel like he really cares about you as a patient.

I think I used an antagonist protocol. Turning 40 as I started seeing him with good amh and poor egg quality it was just about getting good eggs. I had recurrent implantation failure and Dr. Fritz was the one to suggest doing a Receptiva biopsy. Well, surprisingly it was positive and I had to have surgery. I’m not sure if another doctor would have ever recommended going this route.

How was your experience with Satu Kuokkanen at NYU Langone Reproductive Specialists of New York?
I am forever grateful to Dr. Kuokkanen. Her patience, kindness and knowledge about a topic I was originally very unaware about, made a true nightmare into an easier process. I do not wish infertility on my worst enemy and after months and then years of disappointment, I was able to become pregnant thanks to Dr. Kuokkanen and the wonderful staff at the practice. They all work diligently and are always very responsive to questions and concerns, especially when the timing of things is particularly important, I never worried I wouldn’t get an answer or the information I needed. It is a very difficult process, full of emotions, where having the right doctor is key. I would recommend Dr. Kuokkanen to anyone in a similar circumstance. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for helping me bring a beautiful baby into this world. Always have hope- it is possible with the right help!

Since it was unclear of a specific diagnosis, I was told I had unexplained secondary infertility, we started with an IUI cycle. After 3 failed rounds, we decided it was more productive time wise and financially to move forward with an IVF cycle and thankfully my first IVF transfer stuck! I followed all instructions religiously and made sure I did everything I was told. I know I was lucky the first transfer worked but I also believe it was also because of the guidance and advice of Dr. Kuokkanen.

Describe the costs associated with your care under Satu Kuokkanen at NYU Langone Reproductive Specialists of New York.
It depends on insurance. I know a portion of the costs were covered by my insurance, but especially with sonograms, I had to pay for these as well as other visits. The storage of embryos is another cost, if needed.
Describe Satu Kuokkanen's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at NYU Langone Reproductive Specialists of New York.
I trusted that transferring more than one embryo could raise the risk of problems. I had waited so long for a baby that waiting another month to do things safely made more sense to me.

I feel as though I was treated very well. [Dr. Kuokkanen] took her time & was thoughtful & elaborate and treated me well & with respect, not just as another person. [She] made sure I felt comfortable and that I could call at any time during my treatment, and would constanlty follow up with me and discuss my results as needed...In the beginning we attempted natural cycles, with pre-natal vitamins & Co-Q10; and then slowly progressed to more aggressive treatment's lateron on, including estrogen and progesterone.
I feel as though the clinic [at NYU Langone Reproductive Specialists of New York] did a great job...There were a few times in the beginning where there was an extra long wait, but thid didn't occur often. I enjoyed usin gthe portal, and found it to be helpful. I thought the messages on top of the portal was also good & productive...I felt comfirtable with all staff and were all abel to assist in whatever needs and questions I had.

I had to pay the mid self pay cycle as my insurance did not cover IUI cycles, as well as part co-pay for medications, consulation, psychologival evaluation, and additional genetic bloodwork, as well as the cost of sperm donation outside of the clinic. I woudl have to estimate the cost in total to be bewteen $15-20,000 for the 6 cycles.

He [Dr. Stelling] spoke quickly and it was hard to catch everything he said at times, but he was willing to answer questions and review information. He was not the doctor who performed the actual retrieval, and I would have preferred knowing this further in advance rather than just before the retrieval. I appreciated that he was honest when assessing the results and acknowledged that it was not what he had expected when going into the retrieval.
The clinic [Long Island IVF] can be very busy. Most often I had a minimal waiting time but a few times it was upwards of 30 minutes. Overall, the staff was the best part of this clinic. The nurses remember very patient and show great empathy. I felt like I mattered.... They took time to answer questions and return calls. I felt very comfortable asking for help and speaking to them about the process.... In the beginning I had great difficulty getting the initial blood work I needed.

Although he spoke quickly, he took time to answer questions and had a decent bedside manner. He was honest when going over the results and I didn’t feel like he was trying to backtrack when the results weren’t as expected. He offered ideas for the second round.
Describe the protocols James Stelling used in your cycles at NYU Langone Reproductive Specialists of New York and their degree of success.
I was prescribed 300 units Follistim and 300 Menopur. I was on the injections for about 13 days because the follicles weren’t reacting as quickly as expected. I ended up with 17 follicles , 13 eggs retrieved, 6 were mature and 6 made it through the freezing process.

These went smoothly and the office was well run. I was usually seen close to my scheduled time, and except for one instance, there was no more than a 30 minute wait. The visits were quick and efficient.
Describe the costs associated with your care under James Stelling at NYU Langone Reproductive Specialists of New York.
It was roughly $4000 (just under) all included, except for medicines and copays. The drugs were separate but were covered by my insurance. Each visit requires my insurance’s copay. Ultimately this was probably about another $450-$500. This price included two months of freezing. After the two months it is $390 for 6 months.

Describe the specific things that went wrong at NYU Langone Reproductive Specialists of New York.
In the beginning I had great difficulty getting the initial blood work I needed. The clinic told me to get certain tests at my PCP, but the PCP refused to order them. My PCP was the primary problem, but the miscommunication with the clinic and the back and forth calls with both doctors took several hours to resolve. Ultimately the tests were done in house at the clinic and I paid for them. Also when it came time to pay for the procedure, the computer system had different iformation than what had been provided in writing by the financial counselor. It was resolved fairly quickly but I ended up having to go back and pay a different day while they sorted it out. Since the treatment was finished, this was a completely separate extra trip that would have otherwise been unnecessary.

He [Dr. Vasilios Goudas] called me personally on the phone to respond to test results, answer questions I left on the recording. How was your experience with Vasilios Goudas at NYU Langone Reproductive Specialists of New York?
I met with Dr. Goudas after a friend had two successful IVF treatments in his care. He is an amazing Surgeon and Reproductive Endocrinologist. He always took the time to answer all my questions and displayed so much patience and care in our visits. I highly recommend. I met with him personally in every visit and he always called me on the phone to discuss lab results and response to any questions I left over the phone.

I had been diagnosed with having a hydrosalpinx and my 1st fertility doctor did not want to take the tube out. Everything I read online said that it should come out and in my gut I felt the same way. I went for two more consultations and the 2nd and 3rd doctor both agreed that it should come out. After reading excellent reviews, we selected Dr Goudas to perform a laparoscopic salpingectomy and remove a large polyp. The surgery went perfectly and we were very pleased.

How was your experience with Satu Kuokkanen at NYU Langone Reproductive Specialists of New York?
Dr. Kuokkanen makes me feel as though she is always rooting for me. She takes the time to ask how I am feeling and praises me when I can articulate how I feel. I was very honest in the beginning with my fears of infertility. I tend to see so often that since doctors do this so much they forget that the patient doesn't do this as much as them, as this is new for the patient but no so new for the doctor. I told her from the very beginning that at times I may need to be handled with "kid gloves". I am very fortunate that I am able to verbalize my mental state and emotions. And she takes that in to consideration when trying to convey what the next steps are for me, while also praising me for being able to articulate how I feel.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Satu Kuokkanen at NYU Langone Reproductive Specialists of New York?
To be as honest as possible with how you are as an individual so she knows how to treat you, not just physically but emotionally as well.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Satu Kuokkanen at NYU Langone Reproductive Specialists of New York?
I feel that since doctors see patients everyday and do this everyday they tend to forget that the patient doesn't do this everyday. Me personally I went into this experience as honest as possible. I stated to Dr. Kuokkanen that while I understand that she does this everyday and this is her profession, that I do not do this every day and at times I may needed to be handled with "kid gloves". She understood and takes the time to make sure I understand what she is saying while also taking my feelings into consideration. I would say that it most definitely makes me feel like a human when a very busy professional takes the time to ask "how are you feeling?". With all that being said I feel very comfortable and taken care of under the treatment of Dr. Kuokkanen. In turn that that is what makes me feel like a human. The fact that I was honest with how I personally am and how she understood and applied that to how she treats me as a patient, makes me feel like a human and not a number.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at NYU Langone Reproductive Specialists of New York.
I was seen on a Wednesday and was scheduled for that following Friday. When the office called me on that Wednesday I was in a meeting at work. I realized that after my meeting the only thing I processed was that I was to come back in on the following Friday. When I was finished with my meeting I called back and explained that all I really processed was date and time of my next visit and that I had some questions. They advised that they would call me back but didn't get back to me till the next day, Thursday. Thursday morning they advised that I also had a visit scheduled for that day but I was not aware of the Thursday appointment. I got upset and started crying because I didn't want to miss an appointment as I know this is a very time sensitive matter. They were very compassionate and and accommodating and got me an appointment within the hour.

He [Dr. Goudas] is very straightforward and fact based. He does not sugarcoat anything and will let you know if something does not look good. He did not jump right into treatment for me and had me see other specialists that had to write a recommendation that I was ready to start fertility treatments. I felt he really wanted to make sure that we would have the best chance of success before starting treatment.
Nursing staff [NYU] was not the best. Multiple times I called the office to set up and apt per the doctors instructions and the nurses had no idea what I was talking about. My husband starting doing all communications with the office so I would not get stressed out... Authorizations were not submitted in a timely fashion for a prescription and there was a lack of urgency to notify me of info that my insurance company needed from me.

Describe your experience with NYU Langone Reproductive Specialists of New York.
They have good availability when it comes to appointments. I am always able to get the first appointment of the day so I can make it to work on time. The overall weakness is at times it has felt like no one is on the same page. I feel like if I ask someone in the office a question they should all be able to answer or get me an answer in a reasonable timeframe. The insurance person works in a different location so that is another weakness as it takes a few days to hear back.

Although he [Dr. James Stelling] speaks very fast, once you get used to his speed he is quite humorous which put me at ease. Also, on the day we discovered I had had my first miscarriage, he was very comforting. In fact the whole office put my needs first that day. Months later when I was there [at Reproductive Specialists of New York] for another appointment I realized I was waiting much longer than usual. I could sense that another woman was experiencing what I had and now it was her turn to take priority in the office.

How was your experience with James Stelling at NYU Langone Reproductive Specialists of New York?
Dr. Stelling is hard to read at first but that is mostly because he speaks VERY fast. Once you catch on to his speed he is very thorough, and quite humorous. If I wanted to have another child I would definitely use him again.

Describe the protocols James Stelling used in your cycles at NYU Langone Reproductive Specialists of New York and their degree of success.
With my initial blood work Dr. Stelling started me on thyroid meds for hypothyroidism and Vitamin D for a deficiency. My first four tries were IUIs, each with an HCG trigger shot. After the 4th failed attempt we added Clomid pills which increased the number of follicles and led to pregnancies each time. Try 4 and 5 resulted in miscarriages. After the second miscarriage Dr. Stelling ordered a slue of blood work which revealed I had a slightly elevated clotting factor that may have been causing the miscarriages. So with the 7th try (third pregnancy) I began taking a low dose aspirin daily. That is why my daughter's nick name is Lucky Seven. :-)

He [Dr James Stelling] is an intelligent man but looking back he didn't have a great bedside manner and sometimes you hardly saw him and another doctor within the practice was dealing with your case...His strategy was to get me pregnant. I ended up with OHSS and had to delay my transfer. Then I had two frozen medicated transfers and they both failed. I also had a uterine biopsy which was the worst experience of my life. I just felt that although he seemed to have an idea of what To do with me, nothing he actually did was successful.
Depending on who was working that day was the doctor you saw, it didn't matter who started to give you a treatment plan. There were times I questioned whether they spoke to each other about what they were suggesting...Love the nursing staff [at Reproductive Specialists of New York] so much! The nurse and staff who are actually no longer with RSOFNY were kind and made me feel extremely comfortable given an uncomfortable situation . Dr Stelling and his staff moved to his new office for his new practice and j was very happy to see all of my old nurses as well as him ... Listen very carefully , he speaks very fast ... He takes the time to thoroughly explain the process and makes recvomendations based on your health history
I wasn’t a fan of the clinic [Reproductive Specialists of New York] itself , but the doctors are no longer at that location , they left and started their own ; to me the office felt way to factory like , it needed to be a little more cherry and uplifting ... Only once my clomid was never called into to my pharmacy and my office In West Islip closed early , I called over to minneola and they resolved the issue within a half hour .
