Attention to Detail

Attention to detail is on a 1 - 10 scale, and is scored based on the rate, and severity, of errors committed by the clinic according to the patients.

For example, a severe error might be failing to inform a patient of critical information, while a small error might be failing to call a patient with results.

CDC Success Rates

This is the most recent data from the CDC. The CDC cautions that it should not be used to compare doctors and clinics. This data represents the outcomes of IVF cycles when using a person's own eggs.

For more information please see our FAQs.

Where you see a “?” on the chart, a clinic has done fewer than 20 cycles in this category and age range, so the CDC says showing percentages from this small data set would be misleading and unreliable.

Dr. Ressler is always empathetic and personable during our appointments. She caters my treatment to my specific and unique situation and fought for me when my insurance wouldn’t cover a second round...I also trust that behind the scenes she is handling my case very well and her and her colleagues are diligently working on my team...Strategy included creating genetic probes for my embryos and starting as soon as possible because of my high risk for diminished ovarian reserve
The biggest strength [of Illume Fertility] is that you have an entire team that helps you navigate everything. I am also absolutely thrilled with the genetic counselor Jamie...Weaknesses include their hours they’re available for non emergency things 7-3p M-F but also an hour and a half closed for lunch which is hard when you work. Also, the nurses sometimes take a while to get back to you which is difficult when you struggle with anxiety related to next steps and results
How was your experience with Ilana Ressler at Illume Fertility (formerly RMA of Connecticut)?
Although illume has many doctors that I see for my morning monitoring and egg retrievals that rotate, every time I see Dr. Ressler I am more than happy with our interactions. I also trust that behind the scenes she is handling my case very well and her and her colleagues are diligently working on my team.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Ilana Ressler at Illume Fertility (formerly RMA of Connecticut)?
You will not always see Dr. Ressler at your appointments because the doctors rotate but I have trusted all of the doctors involved in my care for monitoring, procedures and follow up.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Ilana Ressler at Illume Fertility (formerly RMA of Connecticut)?
Dr. Ressler is always empathetic and personable during our appointments. She caters my treatment to my specific and unique situation and fought for me when my insurance wouldn’t cover a second round.
Describe the protocols Ilana Ressler used in your cycles at Illume Fertility (formerly RMA of Connecticut) and their degree of success.
Strategy included creating genetic probes for my embryos and starting as soon as possible because of my high risk for diminished ovarian reserve. We also regulated my cycle with estrace and did a trigger shot to force ovulation before my first cycle because of my breakthrough follice on birth control. She also fought for me to do a second round of ivf after the first genetic embryo results weren’t what we expected, again due to my increased risk of diminished ovarian reserve.
Describe your experience with your nurse at Illume Fertility (formerly RMA of Connecticut). (Assigned nurse: Alexis)
I am satisfied with the nursing care but not overly thrilled about the care I receive via telephone which is a large part of ivf. On the other hand I absolutely love the nurses I have had experiences with for my egg retrievals they were so compassionate and wonderful to me. One of the nurses came in to the second retrieval with me just to hold my hand because I was so nervous.
Describe your experience with Illume Fertility (formerly RMA of Connecticut).
The biggest strength is that you have an entire team that helps you navigate everything. I am also absolutely thrilled with the genetic counselor Jamie. He has been one of the best parts of my journey so far. Jamie is wonderful to me and my family when we got my diagnosis and he is so on top of everything. Weaknesses include their hours they’re available for non emergency things 7-3p M-F but also an hour and a half closed for lunch which is hard when you work. Also, the nurses sometimes take a while to get back to you which is difficult when you struggle with anxiety related to next steps and results.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Ilana Ressler at Illume Fertility (formerly RMA of Connecticut).
The costs after two retrievals have added up to about $18,000 with insurance coverage. Most costs are related to testing embryos.
Describe Ilana Ressler's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Illume Fertility (formerly RMA of Connecticut).
I am not certain why the clinic uses eSET, I was taught about the approach but not the rationale of using that vs. Multiple. My best guess would be the high risk associated with a pregnancy of multiples.
What specific things went wrong at Illume Fertility (formerly RMA of Connecticut)?
  • Failed to call with results
Describe the specific things that went wrong at Illume Fertility (formerly RMA of Connecticut).
After my second retrieval they didn’t call with fertilization results when they were in, I had to call and ask for the results the next day. I was told it was an error in entering dates in the computer, I received all the other embryo results on time.

[Dr. Hurwitz is] compassionate and truthful and logical - which in my mind is exactly what you need when going through this. Everything is laid out really effectively and there are no gaps or surprises in treatment...I have undetectable levels for AMH and extremely high FSH...was the first doctor to tell me “I’m sorry you are going through this” - he has compassion and while he didn’t give me the news I was hoping for (less than 5 % chance I’ll conceive with my own eggs) he did tell me he would fight and that’s what him and his staff have done
We did an IUI cycle with ivf injectables (450 of Gonal) once a day for 18 days [at RMA of Connecticut]. I’d have an ultrasound every other day and there was a tiny follicle on my left ovary growing slowly but surely. They didn’t give up, when insurance wouldn’t send the refills fast enough, the staff would give me samples to take home to not miss a night...They always respond to email and phone calls and are on top of the insurance agencies Clinic Nps 10
How was your experience with Joshua Hurwitz at Illume Fertility (formerly RMA of Connecticut)?
As mentioned above, he’s compassionate and truthful and logical - which in my mind is exactly what you need when going through this. Everything is laid out really effectively and there are no gaps or surprises in treatment
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Joshua Hurwitz at Illume Fertility (formerly RMA of Connecticut)?
You will be taken care of and not feel like you are just another number
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Joshua Hurwitz at Illume Fertility (formerly RMA of Connecticut)?
Dr Hurwitz was the first doctor to tell me “I’m sorry you are going through this” - he has compassion and while he didn’t give me the news I was hoping for (less than 5 % chance I’ll conceive with my own eggs) he did tell me he would fight and that’s what him and his staff have done
Describe the protocols Joshua Hurwitz used in your cycles at Illume Fertility (formerly RMA of Connecticut) and their degree of success.
I have undetectable levels for AMH and extremely high FSH. Clinics have repeatedly told me they wouldn’t perform IVF because my body wouldn’t respond. We did an IUI cycle with ivf injectables (450 of Gonal) once a day for 18 days. I’d have an ultrasound every other day and there was a tiny follicle on my left ovary growing slowly but surely. They didn’t give up, when insurance wouldn’t send the refills fast enough, the staff would give me samples to take home to not miss a night. Finally the follicle grew to 17 and I triggered with ovidrel and they did back to back IUIs on Sunday and Monday. In my TWW now, I am meeting with them to discuss donor eggs next because I feel if this didn’t work we did everything we could have
Describe your experience with your nurse at Illume Fertility (formerly RMA of Connecticut). (Assigned nurse: Pat Jones)
Everyone just really has their shit together here, which if you’ve been to other clinics you know is rare. They always respond to email and phone calls and are on top of the insurance agencies
Describe your experience with Illume Fertility (formerly RMA of Connecticut).
I’ve had nothing but positive experiences here. They are smart and compassionate and organized. You will be in good hands at RMA. If you can get Dr Hurwitz great, but every doctor who saw me was the same and I never felt like a number

I was put on an antagonist protocol [by Dr. Shaun Williams] for my IVF cycle which resulted in 19 eggs retrieved with 15 mature and 100 percent fertilization rate. Then we only ended up with 2 embryos which were both graded B’s. It was very frustrating to only have 2 embryos in which neither worked. I was having symptoms of OHSS after retrieval so he recommended a freeze all and do a frozen transfer
The practice [RMA of CT- Trumball] has 6 doctors and 4 offices across the state so if you are looking for a personal experience this is not the place for you. ... Morning monitoring was between 7-8am everyday but sometimes you would wait a long time because it was first come first serve. If you have to be in work at a certain time this could pose a problem.... The nurses are not very detail oriented and they leave almost everything up the doctors. I feel they do the minimum amount and don’t reach out to you first.
How was your experience with Shaun Williams at Illume Fertility (formerly RMA of Connecticut)?
Very good bed side manner and very compassionate but I feel as though he was so busy he did not take the time to research our case and get to the bottom of a diagnosis. I understand sometimes it is truly unexplained infertility but we have been trying to conceive for 3 years and we still have no answers. He always remained very positive about us and our future but the outcome was always different.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Shaun Williams at Illume Fertility (formerly RMA of Connecticut)?
Make sure you get any and all questions answered along the way.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Shaun Williams at Illume Fertility (formerly RMA of Connecticut)?
There are 6 doctors in the practice so I saw a different one all the time and it was never very personal.

$17000 for IVF cycle not including cryopreservation
Describe Shaun Williams's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Illume Fertility (formerly RMA of Connecticut).
He was very against transferring more than one embryo with his reasoning being that the chance of a positive is not any greater with 2 but the risks for a multiple pregnancy are much higher.
What specific things went wrong at Illume Fertility (formerly RMA of Connecticut)?
  • Provided conflicting information
  • Failed to convey critical information
Describe the specific things that went wrong at Illume Fertility (formerly RMA of Connecticut).
We had much higher expectations for the communication in the days following the egg retrieval regarding our embryo growth. We expected to get more updates than we did and because that time fell during a weekend I feel the communication lacked greatly.

Dr. Williams always took the time to explain things to me..I came to Dr. Williams with a balanced translocation and he uncovered PCOS... He didn't push me into IVF and allowed me to make the decision for myself. felt cared for by him, like he was invested in my care...He shared more than just clinical ideas on how to improve my chances which meant a lot to me considering I like holistic approached to my health as well...Dr. Williams is a very compassionate and hands on doctor.
The clinic [RMA] had a new office and a clean, modern look...I like the holistic approach and used yoga and acupuncture. I also attended a few free events which helped me through my treatment....I also found the staff to be very friendly and understanding when I had difficulty scheduling an appointment. Whenever I saw a different doctor for monitoring, I felt like even though they didn't consult with me prior that they cared about me... I sometimes had to wait 10-20 minutes to be seen but usually only on the busy days like Monday mornings.
How was your experience with Shaun Williams at Illume Fertility (formerly RMA of Connecticut)?
Dr. Williams is a very compassionate and hands on doctor. He took the time to explain everything to me even when I asked the same questions over and over. My diagnosis was hard to process and I felt like he was invested in my care. He shared more than just clinical ideas on how to improve my chances which meant a lot to me considering I like holistic approached to my health as well. He treated me like a person and seemed genuinely happy when I achieved positive results. I felt cared for by him and never questioned his competency which says a lot for me since I have had negative experiences with doctors that shook my trust in the past at prior centers. He is soft and gentle in his care.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Shaun Williams at Illume Fertility (formerly RMA of Connecticut)?
Book an appointment with him!
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Shaun Williams at Illume Fertility (formerly RMA of Connecticut)?
Dr. Williams always took the time to explain things to me. He related with me and made me feel like my case was unique to him even though I am sure it was not based on his extensive experience. I felt cared for by him, like he was invested in my care.
Describe the protocols Shaun Williams used in your cycles at Illume Fertility (formerly RMA of Connecticut) and their degree of success.
I came to Dr. Williams with a balanced translocation and he uncovered PCOS as well which meant I would have difficulty keeping a pregnancy if I was so lucky as to achieve it to begin with considering I did not ovulate regularly. He didn't push me into IVF and allowed me to make the decision for myself. I could go forward with an IUI armed with the knowledge that I might miscarry or go to IVF with genetic testing of the embryos prior to transfer. I felt supported completely with whatever decision I made and eventually chose to do IVF which I'm so grateful that I did.
Describe your experience with your nurse at Illume Fertility (formerly RMA of Connecticut). (Assigned nurse: Linda )
She was always available to me via email or phone. She was kind, caring, and helped me to coordinate my cycle despite my crazy work schedule!
Describe your experience with Illume Fertility (formerly RMA of Connecticut).
The clinic had a new office and a clean, modern look. It was quite the upgrade from prior doctors' offices that have the old medical building feel. They treat the whole patient and offer so many services which I utilized! I like the holistic approach and used yoga and acupuncture. I also attended a few free events which helped me through my treatment. They have great rates for my age group. I also found the staff to be very friendly and understanding when I had difficulty scheduling an appointment. Whenever I saw a different doctor for monitoring, I felt like even though they didn't consult with me prior that they cared about me.
Describe your experience with your monitoring appointments at Illume Fertility (formerly RMA of Connecticut).
It was first come first serve. I sometimes had to wait 10-20 minutes to be seen but usually only on the busy days like Monday mornings. They were quick, in and out appointments however I never felt rushed if I had additional questions that day.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Shaun Williams at Illume Fertility (formerly RMA of Connecticut).
I compared pricing for the services that I needed since I needed IVF and PGS testing. They were the most reasonably pricing considering I was a self pay patient. They also offered the only self pay IVF packages that included medications, too. Some facilities made me feel like they were the cheaper option because they had a lower quote but what they don't tell you (and I wouldn't have known if I didn't dig deeper) is that they didn't include meds which added thousands! In the end, RMA was the cheapest option.
Describe Shaun Williams's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Illume Fertility (formerly RMA of Connecticut).
Considering I genetically screened my embryos and was 28 during my first transfer, it was strongly recommended to me to transfer one embryo. He thoroughly explained the risks associated with multiples.

We used an egg donor and a separate gestational carrier. ...Wonderful experience with Dr. Williams. He's kind, thoughtful, and thorough--everything I would hope in such a physician. He informed me of the entire process beforehand so there were no surprises. He even told me the various routes he would take if problems cropped up (thankfully none did). I recommend him very highly...He has a nice bedside manner and treated me with respect. Answered all questions I had throughly..
The clinic [RMA] was well located and looked clean. Sometimes I wish these places looked more homey than a medical suite, but I guess sterile and clean are what medical suites are supposed to look like. Facilities were very modern....Nurses and Staff are top notch. They are totally experienced and empathetic--the perfect combination for an excellent experience....We used an egg donor and a separate gestational carrier. Both were given hormones prior to their procedures to optimize their biology. The egg donor went in for egg retrieval. I provided a sperm sample.

We used an egg donor and a separate gestational carrier. Both were given hormones prior to their procedures to optimize their biology. The egg donor went in for egg retrieval. I provided a sperm sample. After the embryos were created, we waited a few days. Of the best embryos, Dr. Williams chose two. He implanted them into the carrier. This resulted in one baby. The process was repeated again for a second baby two years later.

Dr. Williams gave me the choice of one embryo vs. two, saying that two gave a higher chance of success but more chance of complications. I chose two.

Dr. Hurwitz took the time to talk to my husband and I and get to know us and our situation. Today, after two successful embryo transfers, when we connect again I have no doubt he'll remember who we are and care just as much about our family. He was always available to provide guidance that worked best for us, rather than jumping to do what we suggested, bringing his expertise to illuminate the full range of options in front of us.
My [RMA of Connecticut] nurse is unbelievable. I feel very close with her and trust her implicitly. The other nursing staff and my care coordinator are very supportive...The only weakness I experienced was the billing team. My financial navigator made promises she didn't keep and didn't return my calls/emails for three weeks while I was waiting to start a cycle...Dr. Hurwitz took the time to make us feel like he personally cared about our struggles to build a family and was invested in our success. He was also incredibly knowledgeable and fully capable of fielding any question or concern that came up in the course of care.

My nurse is unbelievable. I feel very close with her and trust her implicitly. The other nursing staff and my care coordinator are very supportive. The only team I've ever had trouble with is the billing department.
Describe your experience with Illume Fertility (formerly RMA of Connecticut).
The only weakness I experienced was the billing team. My financial navigator made promises she didn't keep and didn't return my calls/emails for three weeks while I was waiting to start a cycle. Ultimately her supervisor got involved and resolved the situation positively, so it may just have been the one individual rather than the whole financial team.

While our insurance allowed for timed ovulation induction with timed intercourse, due to my age and amount of time ttc, he [Dr. Shaun Williams] recommended going straight to iui. First round was not successful, however we will be moving to a second...He really took the time to explain things to me as well as listen to my concerns...He was kind and positive while being realistic. He did not sugar coat things either. He supplied me with what he thought were the best options and got the process moving as soon as possible.he described each procedure in detail .
Linda [nurse at RMA of Connecticut] was amazing. I was so annoying, constantly emailing her questions and concerns. She answered me on weekends, holidays and after hours...Weaknesses- it can be difficult to reach the front desk. Financial team seems a bit scatterbrained. The nurses are amazing and the physician assistant and phlebotomists were four stars!! They were always kind, polite and positive...While our insurance allowed for timed ovulation induction with timed intercourse, due to my age and amount of time ttc, he recommended going straight to iui. Dr. Williams also took the time to answer any of my questions even if I kept asking them in a different way. He was patient with me and try to give me the best outcome. Sometime, I wished I heard the worst as well.... As a patient, he made me feel optimistic. He was soft spoken and had good bedside manners. He believe he tried to give me the best Opportunity and chance I had. I never thought he sugar coded anything.
Morning bloodwork was by fist come first sever, some days were good and some days were busy. There’s free yoga classes and support groups offered. I meet some really good people there. Office [RMA] was nice, clean and professional... The nurse and patient coordinator were easy to contact either by phone or via email. When ever I have a question or concern they would get back to me the same day... I had some paper given to one office and went missing a couple of times

Dr Williams treated me for a large fibroid tumor and severe endometriosis through meds and surgery when needed to deal with pain. Now that I am trying to get pregnant he started fairly aggressively with treatment to up my chances...They have truly been awesome through several surgeries and procedures that I have had over the last 6 years. Dr Williams has an awesome bedside manner and has never treated me as if I was crazy as other doctors did prior to me endometriosis and tumor diagnosis...Dr Williams is always great about following up with me no matter the hours when I am having an issue
