This is the most recent data from the CDC. The CDC cautions that it should not be used to compare doctors and clinics. This data represents the outcomes of IVF cycles when using a person's own eggs.
For more information please see our FAQs.
Where you see a “?” on the chart, a clinic has done fewer than 20 cycles in this category and age range, so the CDC says showing percentages from this small data set would be misleading and unreliable.
Dr Maslow is kind and clear with communication, but she's barely there...1 cycle ~ 300 Gonol, 2 vials of Meno, 2 times/day Lupron. It's the most aggressive stimulation, due to my low amh level. 2, 3, 4 cycle ~ 450 Gonol, 3 vials of Meno plus some other med I forgot...we only got 1 embryo and it did result in pregnancy.
[RMA of New Jersey] is nice and efficient. The people work there are very friendly. Everything was smooth, although there were some communication hiccups in the beginning...medication was not that clear for the transfer day either...monitoring tests were fine...She's clear and a bit robotic, but I like it. She kept me calm.
How was your experience with Bat-Sheva Maslow at RMA of Basking Ridge, New Jersey?
Dr Maslow is kind and clear with communication, but she's barely there. Our 3rd cycle only had 4 follicles, so we wanted to cancel. The on-call doctor insisted that we continue with the cycle and it failed (canceled egg retrieval). We only heard from Dr. Maslow once the entire 3rd cycle, when she announce the result to us.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Bat-Sheva Maslow at RMA of Basking Ridge, New Jersey?
She has very good techniques. I had three exams with her the 4 cycles. None of them were painful, but the one time with another doctor was really painful.
She is on vacation a lot and has many many many holidays. Be prepared to get instructions from on-call doctors a lot.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Bat-Sheva Maslow at RMA of Basking Ridge, New Jersey?
Not in the beginning, but the experience slowly got better with communications. In the beginning, no treatment process was explained, we were info dumped with pdf documents on the process. We weren't told when the cycle will begin, so we did not know when to order medications, especially that one of meds has very short expiration date. The first cycle was based completely on need-to-know bases. We were instructed a day before the next step. It was nerve racking for the first cycle.
Describe the protocols Bat-Sheva Maslow used in your cycles at RMA of Basking Ridge, New Jersey and their degree of success.
1 cycle ~ 300 Gonol, 2 vials of Meno, 2 times/day Lupron. It's the most aggressive stimulation, due to my low amh level.
2, 3, 4 cycle ~ 450 Gonol, 3 vials of Meno plus some other med I forgot. Slightly milder stim because the 1st cycle did not work.
5 cycle ~ the same as 1st cycle plus growth hormone. It's been a year, maybe the most aggressive method will work again .
Describe your experience with your nurse at RMA of Basking Ridge, New Jersey. (Assigned nurse: Jill )
Jill was not the first nurse, she became my nurse after the first one went on leave. She's clear and a bit robotic, but I like it. She kept me calm.
Describe your experience with RMA of Basking Ridge, New Jersey.
The clinic is nice and efficient. The people work there are very friendly. Everything was smooth, although there were some communication hiccups in the beginning. There is no good result for us. We were frustrated in cycles when we can only hear advise from on-call doctors.
Describe your experience with your monitoring appointments at RMA of Basking Ridge, New Jersey.
The monitoring tests were fine. I have to go in every morning for my 1st cycle, which is a lot of driving and my arm was bruised for a very long time. Not sure if that was the protocol for 1st cycle or what. The cycles monitoring get less frequent cycle after cycle. I think the doctor has a pretty good understand of my response after a while.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Bat-Sheva Maslow at RMA of Basking Ridge, New Jersey.
Only copays and genetic testing fees. Insurance covers the cycles.
Describe Bat-Sheva Maslow's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at RMA of Basking Ridge, New Jersey.
None, we only got 1 embryo and it did result in pregnancy.

Describe the specific things that went wrong at RMA of Basking Ridge, New Jersey.
In the beginning of 1st cycle, I have to take multiple phone calls from the Specialty pharmacy asking for me to contact my doctor for pre approval. After that, the pharmacy asked me when should they setup the delivery, but I was not told when the cycle will start, so had to call the nurse asking for timing. For our transfer cycle, I was in the ER three days before the transfer due to virus caused upset stomach. The suggestions from on-call doctors were okay to transfer. We weren't able to talk to my own doctor until the day of transfer. The medication was not that clear for the transfer day either. I had two progesterone pill at the time, same dosage, one in refrigerator one at room temp. I was instructed to insert the one in fridge but I didn't read the full labels so I inserted the room temp one instead. My doctor said they're the same, but if they're the same, why prescribe two different kind??? Anyway, our transfer of the only one embryo we've got after 4 cycles did not result in pregnancy. We were very devastated.
Dr. Hong took every concern I had seriously - and after a late loss, I had a lot of them in the following cycles. When I had a medical emergency while under her care, she coordinated treatment with the hospital and attending physicians to make sure that I was getting the correct medical attention I needed. She took time out of her evenings to call and check up on me...We did not wish to transfer more than one to avoid the possibility of twins.
I always received a call from the [RMA of NJ] covering nurse to either provide bloodwork results or answer any questions I had...During the week, while being monitored at the local Morristown clinic, the appointment rarely exceeded an hour. The later you go, the busier it will be. My only complaint would be the often very long wait times at the Basking Ridge location, where you need to go on weekends, as the Morristown location was closed.
How was your experience with Kathleen Hong at RMA of Basking Ridge, New Jersey?
I feel very fortunate to have been a patient of Dr. Hong's. She was extremely knowledgeable, empathetic and compassionate, available when I had a question or needed advice, and went above and beyond what anyone could expect in terms of managing my care with other doctors during treatment. She frequently checked in with me to make sure I was doing okay and I never felt alone knowing that she was in my corner. I couldn't possibly recommend her enough.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Kathleen Hong at RMA of Basking Ridge, New Jersey?
Look no further.

When I had a medical emergency while under her care, she coordinated treatment with the hospital and attending physicians to make sure that I was getting the correct medical attention I needed. She took time out of her evenings to call and check up on me. It was so obvious that she truly cared. She is exactly the type of person that should become a doctor because she gives it her heart and soul.
Describe the protocols Kathleen Hong used in your cycles at RMA of Basking Ridge, New Jersey and their degree of success.
After only retrieving 2 eggs from my first cycle, which yielded one high-quality embryo that did result in a pregnancy (which was later lost for unrelated reasons), it became clear that we were working with a diminished ovarian reserve and our second cycle was adjusted accordingly. We did a micro flare protocol next and unfortunately that also yielded only one embryo which did not implant. Dr. Hong and I discussed how to proceed with cycle three and agreed to try an antagonist protocol again. My medications were adjusted once more, which resulted in an amazing 12 eggs retrieved, 11 successfully fertilized and 4 went on to become PGT-normal embryos.
Describe your experience with your nurse at RMA of Basking Ridge, New Jersey. (Assigned nurse: Dayna)
My nurse, Dayna, was wonderful to work with. Even on days when she was out of the office, I always received a call from the covering nurse to either provide bloodwork results or answer any questions I had. Everything was always communicated in a timely manner and very clearly.

My only complaint would be the often very long wait times at the Basking Ridge location, where you need to go on weekends, as the Morristown location was closed. Almost every time we waited between one to two hours to be seen and that location was 40 minutes away. This would not deter me from using this clinic again in the future, however, as I feel the care was absolutely worth it.
Describe your experience with your monitoring appointments at RMA of Basking Ridge, New Jersey.
The clinic can get busy so if time is an issue, it's best to go in earlier. Their hours are very accommodating, from 6-8:30a.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Kathleen Hong at RMA of Basking Ridge, New Jersey.
We were very fortunate to have insurance cover most of the expenses related to our IVF cycles. We did pay out of pocket for PGS testing of the embryos which I felt was a reasonable amount. The insurance coordinators were really fantastic in detailing exactly what was covered and at what amounts. Aetna did provide incorrect information to the coordinator for our first round of IVF and when it came time to bill, RMA fought for us and submitted multiple appeals and ultimately had the original information provided by Aetna honored, saving us over $2000.
Describe Kathleen Hong's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at RMA of Basking Ridge, New Jersey.
In previous cycles, I only had one embryo to transfer. During my most recent transfer, only one PGT-normal embryo was transferred. We did not wish to transfer more than one to avoid the possibility of twins.
Doctor Bergh met with us for our consultation and immediately knew who we were and all the details we provided prior to our appointment. We are going through IVF for PGT/genetics and he spoke to us about how his personal experiences with the gene we have. He didn't rush our appointment or any of our questions. He was very direct with information but very compassionate with how difficult IVF can be.
RMA is a well organized system....surprised with how smoothly the entire appointment flowed and how timely everything/everyone was. The offices are always so clean, and the staff members are always so kind and willing to help. With IVF comes a lot of blood work, which always was a weak point for me and the staff was always wonderful and understanding that I didn't tolerate needles well. Appointments were always easy to arrange.
How was your experience with Paul Bergh at RMA of Basking Ridge, New Jersey?
Dr. Bergh explained every aspect of IVF and fertility along with our genetic competent so well. When doing research it was easy to get confused and Dr. Bergh really explained things in a simplistic way that also lightened the mood in such a serious, stressful, and overwhelming matter. Our IVF journey began and then had become an unexpected rollercoaster and Dr. Bergh was very compassionate and understanding and altered coarse of treatment every time we needed. He provided tons of information and support for us. I truly felt Dr. Bergh had our best interests in mind and made our IVF plan specifically for us.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Paul Bergh at RMA of Basking Ridge, New Jersey?
Go in with an open mind. It's easy to go into our IVF consultation with a certain mindset or overwhelmed by the next steps and finances but the appointment is so informative and truly provides you with such insight.

Describe your experience with your nurse at RMA of Basking Ridge, New Jersey. (Assigned nurse: Christina)
Christina was 10 out of 10. We relied on her a lot and she never made us feel we were a bother. Not only is she extremely knowledgable and informative but she was always there when we needed her and she always offered support when we felt overwhelmed or emotional. She definitely went above and beyond what her professional duties are.

As someone with multiple fails and poor responses to treatment, this became even more heightened. Dr.Leung is always very patient, listens to my hundreds of questions and always answers them. She is fairly easily available by phone when needed and responds promptly on the portal...Felt like a number more because of RMA as a whole and not necessarily bc of dr.Leung.
[RMA of New Jersey has] Very organized system since they see so many patients however makes you feel like a number and very unpersonalized. The app in helpful however you can’t access any of your old results/lab values. Front desk staff is very friendly...long wait times on weekend and turning peak hours....Lots of money. Egg retrieval- about $1500 Embryo transfer- about $5,000...

Felt like a number more because of RMA as a whole and not necessarily bc of dr.Leung. RMA is a machine and everything is just a process and very much feels like a number.
Describe the protocols Angela Leung used in your cycles at RMA of Basking Ridge, New Jersey and their degree of success.
3 rounds IUI-don’t remeber any details
1 egg retrieval- 150iu of follistim ( which was lowered to 75 after 3 days) cetrotide, menopur and leuoprolide trigger. Retrieved 34 eggs only 10 fertilized and only 3 genetically normal
Round 2- started follistim at 75iu, the idea was to not over stimulate me like the 1st time in hopes for better quality. Only retrieved 12 and only 3 fertilized. 0 genetically normal
Round 3- set to over stimulate again
FET- medicated cycle- resulted in miscarriage at 10 weeks
FET2- medicated cycle - resulted in chemical pregnancy ( thought was ectopic. For a while)

Dr. Drews is very sweet but also very straightforward...but he also communicates in a caring way and makes it feel like everything is possible as long as you work together with him and he will do anything in his power to achieve your goals of creating or growing a family. He is so kind and warm and has the best bedside manner. He performed all of my transfers and I wouldn’t have a family without his help. For many years I had doctors tell me I’d never be able to get pregnant and Dr. Drews proved all of them wrong.
RMA is extremely organized and runs on schedule. The expectations are set from the very first visit to the last. The surgical center is very organized and clean and all visits went smoothly and as expected. They do have a large volume of patients so they make you aware of wait times and it’s also available through their portal app...all of the nurses that I communicated with were very clear, compassionate and probably the biggest cheerleaders one can ask for.
How was your experience with Michael Drews at RMA of Basking Ridge, New Jersey?
Dr. Drews is very sweet but also very straightforward. I don’t like when doctors sugar coat and he definitely doesn’t do that but he also communicates in a caring way and makes it feel like everything is possible as long as you work together with him and he will do anything in his power to achieve your goals of creating or growing a family. What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Michael Drews at RMA of Basking Ridge, New Jersey?
Expect the most exceptional experience and look no further than Dr. Drews. He’s had years of experience and it shows when he determines his patients care and he’s also very realistic so there are no surprises
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Michael Drews at RMA of Basking Ridge, New Jersey?
Dr. Drews was extremely compassionate and always made time to answer my questions and address any concerns I had
Describe the protocols Michael Drews used in your cycles at RMA of Basking Ridge, New Jersey and their degree of success.
We proceeded with egg donation from the beginning because I have one ovary that never developed from birth and the other was very small with no follicles so it was pointless trying with my own eggs. My egg donor proceeded with an antagonist cycle and we ended up with 7 euploid embryos to work with. Because I don’t have a regular period we proceeded with a synthetic transfer cycle for all of my transfers. The first ended in a biochemical pregnancy, one live birth and I am currently 11 weeks pregnant

Insurance covered most of the cost of treatment but during the egg donor process we were responsible for donors insurance, legal fees, psych evaluation and during the transfer cycle I was responsible for copay for medications and the laser acupuncture offered on site
Describe Michael Drews's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at RMA of Basking Ridge, New Jersey.
Dr. Drews goal is one healthy embryo ending in one healthy baby. There are multiple risks affiliated with multiple embryos transfer and those were thoroughly discussed
Dr. Shastri is an excellent communicator and is very knowledgeable...What I appreciated most about Dr. Shastri is that she was always willing to try new things to see what medication protocol would be most effective for my body and never suggested that something was "just bad luck," as is so common among IVF doctors. What I appreciated most about Dr. Shastri is that she was always willing to try new things to see what medication protocol would be most effective for my body and never suggested that something was "just bad luck," as is so common among IVF doctors.
RMA's great strength is the quality and efficiency of their medical care, but patient experience is a weakness...My first nurse was kind but was not the clearest communicator...Overall I do think nursing communication is a weakness for RMA. I suspect their caseloads are huge based on how difficult it is to get in touch with them...The only downside to RMA is that is is such a big facility, the experience is fairly impersonal. A different doctor performed my retrieval and one of my transfers was performed by a different doctor.
How was your experience with Shefali Shastri at RMA of Basking Ridge, New Jersey?
Dr. Shastri is an excellent communicator and is very knowledgeable. I came to her after doing 4 retrievals at another clinic where my doctor did the exact same medication protocol over and over, despite getting poor results. After my 4th retrieval he said we could try one more time but then we'd need to move onto donor eggs. When I came to Dr. Shastri, she immediately changed multiple things in my medication protocol and I think the results speak for themselves:
Clinic 1:
Age 33
ER #1: 7 eggs retrieved, 3 blastocysts, 1 euploid
ER #2: 9 eggs retrieved, 4 blasts, 0 euploids
ER #3: 6 eggs retrieved, 2 blasts, 1 euploid
ER #4 (age 36): 6 eggs retrieved, zero fertilization
ER #5 with Dr. Shastri (age 36.5!): 10 eggs, 7 blasts, 6 euploids!
It then took 3 transfers with Dr. Shastri to have success, but of course this is in-line with the "3 euploids per birth" statistic most frequently cited.
What I appreciated most about Dr. Shastri is that she was always willing to try new things to see what medication protocol would be most effective for my body and never suggested that something was "just bad luck," as is so common among IVF doctors. The changes she made to my retrieval protocol made such a dramatic difference in my results, there is NO WAY this was just due to luck - it was her skill as a clinician. And then when my first medicated transfer didn't work, we tried a modified natural protocol, and then for my third we changed other things - this was NOT a cookie-cutter approach, it was customized care.
The only downside to RMA is that is is such a big facility, the experience is fairly impersonal. A different doctor performed my retrieval and one of my transfers was performed by a different doctor. The flipside of this negative is that it means procedures can be performed 7 days a week, which I think is hugely important because it means surgeries can be performed on the best day clinically, not when it can be scheduled around the doctor's schedule. This is especially important for retrievals, fresh transfers, and frozen transfers using a natural medication protocol.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Shefali Shastri at RMA of Basking Ridge, New Jersey?
Dr. Shastri is very warm and caring, although she occasionally forgot aspects of my medical history most likely due to a high patient volume.
Describe the protocols Shefali Shastri used in your cycles at RMA of Basking Ridge, New Jersey and their degree of success.
For my retrieval we stimmed using Clomid, Gonal-f 450, low-dose HCG 40, and a dual Lupron HCG trigger.
First transfer (medicated): estradiol, PIO
Second transfer (modified natural): HCG trigger, supplemental estrodial and progesterone suppositories
Third transfer medicated: estradiol, PIO, prednisone, benadryl - success
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at RMA of Basking Ridge, New Jersey.
My first nurse was kind but was not the clearest communicator. There were a few instances of miscommunication and I switched to a new nurse, who was much more on top of everything. Overall I do think nursing communication is a weakness for RMA. I suspect their caseloads are huge based on how difficult it is to get in touch with them.
Describe your experience with RMA of Basking Ridge, New Jersey.
RMA's great strength is the quality and efficiency of their medical care, but patient experience is a weakness. Because it is so huge it is very impersonal, and I suspect that their patient loads are very high. But my biggest peeve is that when they send you the medical information to prepare for your transfer procedure, they try to upsell you on laser acupuncture, and claim it will improve your chances of success. The laser acupuncture is a total scam. I did it once and it was honestly the most ridiculous hocus pocus BS I've ever seen in my life. I think it's extremely unprofessional and predatory for a medical center to tell infertility patients that they can improve their chances of success by having a man shine a laser on their foot and on their ear. Did I mention it costs $250 and takes 5 minutes? I truly don't understand how an organization run by people with medical degrees thinks this is okay. It really left a bad taste in my mouth.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Shefali Shastri at RMA of Basking Ridge, New Jersey.
Transfers were $5k
Retrievals were $19k, not including PGT testing and medication
Describe Shefali Shastri's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at RMA of Basking Ridge, New Jersey.
We always transferred a single PGT tested embryo and did not ask about transferring multiples.
What specific things went wrong at RMA of Basking Ridge, New Jersey?
Dr. Hong is a consummate professional who is warm, caring, and extremely smart. She is compassionate and cares when things do not go well. She focuses on the mental well-being of her patients, as well. I have only positive things to say...Dr. Hong uses RMA's standard protocols which are evidence-based. She really does not deviate from this, and acknowledges that you may wish to get a second opinion from somewhere more "experimental" if you are not happy with this.
RMA made me feel cared about some of the time, and other times I felt like a number. However, they are highly thought of in the NJ fertility community and I felt working with them was my best shot. Wait times can be long and it is advantageous to go to their bigger offices earlier in the morning...I have been extremely disappointed with their financial team and did find out they owed us several thousand dollars that we had paid, that our insurance ultimately covered and paid to them, too. I do not trust their finance department. This has nothing to do with how I feel about the medical care I received, though.

Request consults each cycle. These do not necessarily happen every cycle if you are in communication with your nurse, but you may end up having questions and wishing you had spoken to your doctor. (Your nurse can do this for you, but it can be helpful to speak directly to her, too.)
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Kathleen Hong at RMA of Basking Ridge, New Jersey?
Extraordinarily caring -- goes completely above and beyond during appointments and procedures. Treats you like a very important human.

The nursing staff is incredibly busy at RMA. Staying on top of my own care was important to me as a patient, and asking my nurse a LOT of questions.

Describe your experience with your monitoring appointments at RMA of Basking Ridge, New Jersey.
The Basking Ridge office is well-organized with a friendly front desk staff and clear system. Two doctors do monitoring each morning and there are 6 seats for bloodwork which makes it go fairly quickly. Morristown is small and only one doctor does monitoring each morning there, and there are only two bloodwork technicians, which made wait times overwhelming.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Kathleen Hong at RMA of Basking Ridge, New Jersey.
My treatment was primarily covered by insurance. Out-of-pocket expenses have totaled about $5K over a large number of cycles.
Describe Kathleen Hong's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at RMA of Basking Ridge, New Jersey.
RMA will only transfer one embryo at a time, as a policy.
What specific things went wrong at RMA of Basking Ridge, New Jersey?
Failed to order appropriate test
Describe the specific things that went wrong at RMA of Basking Ridge, New Jersey.
The financial department has been unreliable, disorganized, and ultimately owed us several thousand dollars we were fortunately repaid when I confronted them about this.
Separately, I felt they lacked compassion and did speak to a manager about this.
I actually have not met Dr. Bergh, I have only met with his Nurse Practitioner, who has always treated me and my partner with much care...Lauren Nervi is the nurse practitioner taking care of me. I like her, she takes the time to answer all questions me and my partner have ever had...don't be afraid to ask questions, she talks very fast and is very smart, which could possibly feel intimidating but she is very patient.
The RMA team is outstanding, they are professional, gentle, caring, I cannot say enough good things...RMA of NJ does not do multiple embryo transfer, I am ok with that since it can result in twins...The clinic is a well oiled machine/factory. I chose RMA knowing that one does not get a cozy, warm, slow treatment. RMA is to the point, in and out, who's next? When you go for the morning monitoring the doctors go in and out of the exam rooms, and on to the next, and on to the next so quickly; they are attentive and caring but one sees how impersonal the care is.

Due to my insurance which follows the NJ State Mandate, I had to do 6 IUI's before my insurance would even consider covering any IVF retrieval. So we did the IUI's, which none worked. We were told by the NP that this was a high possibility due to my age (39) and my egg reserve. Her rationale was let's get the IUI's out of the way so we can get to the IVF, which has a higher chance for the results of a child.

When you go for the morning monitoring the doctors go in and out of the exam rooms, and on to the next, and on to the next so quickly; they are attentive and caring but one sees how impersonal the care is. Personally, I chose this clinic for this reason, I want results, I don't want to waste my time being hand held and being given false hopes, I want results asap. My partner in the other hand would rather have a more intimate setting, I think a smaller practice would give that feeling, however, it is much harder to get appointments in smaller practices.

Describe Paul Bergh's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at RMA of Basking Ridge, New Jersey.
RMA of NJ does not do multiple embryo transfer, I am ok with that since it can result in twins.

Unfortunately, on the first appointment, either the clinic or the lab lost my partner's blood work and somehow switched my blood type. What ended up happening is that they put her bloodwork under mine, so my bloodtype was hers....long story short we both had to go and get our bloodwork re-done.
He [Dr. Michael Drews] reviewed our history. Spoke with us candidly about his assessment of our case. He was responsive to questions asked and backed it with evidenced based knowledge. I trust his care. His demeanor and compassionate nature shine through so easily in his personality. I appreciate how he educates his patients. We gleaned so much about reproductive health in the conversations had without him throughout our course of care. No downsides.
Clean, beautiful space. Most if not all testing was done on site [at RMA of New Jersey - Basking Ridge]. Staff were professional, the space was welcoming and clean. The fish tanks were lovely to watch, there was plenty of space, wait time if ever was minimal...Well oiled machine. Morning monitoring was between 6-8am. They'd call early afternoon with your results. Very efficient and staff were kind and professional.

Dr. Drews knew was prepared when my husband and I walked in for that first appointment in January 2021. He reviewed our history. Spoke with us candidly about his assessment of our case. What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Michael Drews at RMA of Basking Ridge, New Jersey?
Schedule with him! While this ridiculous Rollercoaster of IVF promises that there are no promises, our case was not looking great going into our fourth andnfinal covered retrieval. With the protocol utilized we got 19 eggs retrieved. Only one of which made it to viable embryo stage. We transferred and I'm pregnant now, due in November with our baby.
My sister and her wife referred us to him and they'll be celebrating their daughter's first birthday in June.
It is hard. To have a doctor as a partner through the process was incredibly helpful!
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Michael Drews at RMA of Basking Ridge, New Jersey?
Dr. Drews is versed, attentive, compassionate, and thorough. From the day we met him he thoroughly knew our case and factors that impacted us. The relationship felt professional and personal, as if he genuinely cares for us. He was clear, direct, and provided us with information in a clear and conscientious manner.

Menopur and ganarellix didn't work for me. I was on follistim, estradiol, the PIO shots.

Describe Michael Drews's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at RMA of Basking Ridge, New Jersey.
The clinic only transfers 1 embryo at a time. It wasn't really a conversation in our case because I only got one embryo after retrieval #3; and one embryo after retrieval #4.
Dr. Bergh treats you for YOU. He does not try to sync your cycle with his other patients. He makes a plan based on YOUR needs and makes adjustments throughout the cycle as needed...I refused an antagonist protocol, so he creatively figured out something else and it worked...He has a strong preference for a single embryo transfer, and he requires PGT-A testing...Every step of the way, I was under heavy monitoring and I was involved in decisions made. I was able to ask questions and was treated like a knowledgeable human...
RMANJ is a well-oiled machine. Of all the clinics I have worked with/called, which was many, RMANJ is by far the best organized. How was your experience with Paul Bergh at RMA of Basking Ridge, New Jersey?
I cannot recommend Dr. Bergh enough. Prior to working with Dr. Bergh, I was under the care of a local RE. With the local RE, two retrievals yielded zero embryos for transfer. That clinic told me "that's just the way it is" and wanted to continue treatment without making any adjustments. I then found Dr. Bergh. To work with him, I had to travel to NJ from FL. We decided to do duo-stim in hopes to bank embryos. I won't share numbers here because they can be triggering, but I will share that I was able to bank PGT-A tested embryos from the two retrievals with Dr. Bergh. Every step of the way, I was under heavy monitoring and I was involved in decisions made. I was able to ask questions and was treated like a knowledgeable human. Dr. Bergh did my FET, and I had success. My LO is almost two now, and there's not a day that goes by that I don't thank Dr. Bergh for that. I am currently under Dr. Bergh's care for a second FET. Dr. Bergh is the best!!!
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Paul Bergh at RMA of Basking Ridge, New Jersey?
Don't be afraid to ask questions. Dr. Bergh will answer them in a calm, non-judgmental manner
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Paul Bergh at RMA of Basking Ridge, New Jersey?
Dr. Bergh treats you for YOU. He does not try to sync your cycle with his other patients. He makes a plan based on YOUR needs and makes adjustments throughout the cycle as needed. He is also very personable. At one point during a retrieval cycle, I was worried about something and he got on the phone with me for about 30 minutes until we talked things through and I felt better. When I got pregnant under his care, I was terrified I'd lose the pregnancy. He, again, got on the phone to calm me down and make me feel more secure in my pregnancy.

We were part of a program that included two retrievals and as many FETs needed for a live, healthy birth.
Describe Paul Bergh's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at RMA of Basking Ridge, New Jersey.
He has a strong preference for a single embryo transfer, and he requires PGT-A testing.
Typically, I prefer the warmest and fuzziest bedside manner. Dr. Bergh is not quite that. He is also not cold or uncaring. He is very caring. But, he is also direct, clear and honest...adjusted my treatment plan along the way, and was always looking to try something different to work through obstacles
RMA was truly an exceptional place to work with...impressed at how much I did not feel like a number...entire team there was on top of every single thing. How was your experience with Paul Bergh at RMA of Basking Ridge, New Jersey?
As my daughter is approaching her second birthday, I was overcome with gratitude as I recounted my difficult journey to get here. We experienced secondary infertility struggles, two losses back to back, and so much heartache. I credit having two children to Dr. Bergh. Typically, I prefer the warmest and fuzziest bedside manner. Dr. Bergh is not quite that. He is also not cold or uncaring. He is very caring. But, he is also direct, clear and honest. He is also so serious about his work, and I never questioned my decision to be under his care. He had a way of always giving me that hope I so very needed, and had this sarcastic but sincere personality, an endearing quality that I grew to really appreciate. I know he has daughters of his own, and somehow that always helped me. He adjusted my treatment plan along the way, and was always looking to try something different to work through obstacles. He always had a plan. He is truly the best of the best there is, and at the end of the day, what I wanted and needed most was the doctor he is. He never gave up on us during our 1.5 years working together. He never let me lose hope. He was willing to collaborate and get on the phone with me directly when I needed it. I felt truly cared about, by him and his team, and I can’t express enough how much he changed our lives.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Paul Bergh at RMA of Basking Ridge, New Jersey?
He is a straight shooter, he is direct. He’s not going to hold your hand, but he might if you ask him to :) What he will do, is be the best doctor for you, pivot, explain the reason and research behind his decisions, and work with you as if you really matter. He is deeply intelligent and in his wheel house.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Paul Bergh at RMA of Basking Ridge, New Jersey?
Working with Dr. Bergh and with RMA, I expected to feel like a number. I honestly felt like the exact opposite. The amount of care and consideration that I was given during a very difficult time is something I will never forget.
Describe your experience with your nurse at RMA of Basking Ridge, New Jersey. (Assigned nurse: Jamie Segarra)
Jamie was my nurse coordinator for my entire year+ experience with Dr. Bergh/RMA. I still think about her all this time after being there. I used to feel like I was her only patient - that is the level of communication, constant involvement and awareness she had about my case, my life. She was on top of everything, incredibly organized and communicative, and sharp as a tack. I felt like I was in good, safe and responsible hands always.
Describe your experience with RMA of Basking Ridge, New Jersey.
RMA was truly an exceptional place to work with. During a time of so much vulnerability, uncertainty and emotional turmoil, I was continuously impressed at how much I did not feel like a number. Every step of the way, the entire team there was on top of every single thing. I was amazed, always, at how tight a ship they run.
I only saw him [Dr. Seli] once for an initial appointment. He was very clear in explaining the reproductive process and how fertility treatments work. It was very science based, and I found it helpful. He discussed different options and identified potential areas that may impact the fertility journey...After my husband and I saw the doctor and had blood drawn for genetic testing, baseline labs, etc, I was recommended by the nurse to lose a lot of weight before they could proceed with ANY treatment.
RMA has a strict BMI cutoff. I called to ask this before starting, and the information I was provided was only partial information. After my husband and I saw the doctor and had blood drawn for genetic testing, baseline labs, etc, I was recommended by the nurse to lose a lot of weight before they could proceed with ANY treatment...We left feeling humiliated and hopeless, the exact opposite of how you should feel especially seeking fertility treatments.

RMA has a strict BMI cutoff. I called to ask this before starting, and the information I was provided was only partial information. After my husband and I saw the doctor and had blood drawn for genetic testing, baseline labs, etc, I was recommended by the nurse to lose a lot of weight before they could proceed with ANY treatment.
Describe your experience with your nurse at RMA of Basking Ridge, New Jersey.
After the consult with the doctor, the nurse went over next steps. Since my BMI was too high for them to be willing to do anything, she proceeded to write after each follow up step “after BMI is under” their limit. Like, we got it. I even had her confirm with the doctor that they would not even try IUI, since both my husband and I were under the impression that we could do IUI while I attempted to get under their BMI limit. It felt very cold.
Describe your experience with RMA of Basking Ridge, New Jersey.
If you’re too overweight, beware. I called before I went and asked about BMI limit. I was told what BMI limit for IVF, and I understood this to mean the limit was for IVF only, as they did not explain otherwise. At my appointment, the doctor was very thorough discussing reproductive medicine. And he mentioned not being able to do IVF but starting with IUI after the initial testing. My husband and I had bloodwork done.
We last met with the nurse who proceeded to tell us the next steps. But after almost all next steps, she proceeded to write that it was only once my BMI was under their cutoff. Most offices will say it is due to anesthesia. But IUI does not use anesthesia at all. RMA will not provide any treatment if you are over their BMI limit, period.
I find the practice to be fat phobic as there is no reason why they could not choose to move forward with IUI. There should have been informed consent before we had an appointment and tons of testing completed, as I would not have proceeded with the appointment. It felt humiliating, and we left feeling completely hopeless. I have gone elsewhere since and felt treated with respect every time.

Describe the specific things that went wrong at RMA of Basking Ridge, New Jersey.
Per my previous statement, they were unclear about BMI limits even though I specifically called. They should be upfront about this and communicate it clearly, as the appointment was a complete waste of time. We left feeling humiliated and hopeless, the exact opposite of how you should feel especially seeking fertility treatments.
Dr. Fischer fully explained the treatments that were available to us, guided us on the probability of conception through IUI vs IVF, and never pushed us towards a specific treatment. (we decided on IVF due to the higher probability that we would conceive...[she] was able to perform both my egg retrieval and embryo transfer. She also performed my last 2 ultrasounds at RMA after I was pregnant
There were only a handful of times that I had to wait for my appointments. I think RMA does a great job of prioritizing the patients who come in regularly for morning monitoring (for blood work and/or ultrasounds) which is great because you have to go so frequently! Most of the doctors were great as well- I did not see my assigned doctor at every visit- I would see the doctor who was performing the ultrasounds that morning
How was your experience with Catha Fischer at RMA of Basking Ridge, New Jersey?
Since my first consultation with Dr. Fischer, which was virtual due to the COVID pandemic, I immediately liked her and felt I could trust her 100%. Her knowledge and compassion were extremely evident. She was very reassuring and she was the first doctor who diagnosed me with PCOS at the age of 34. For most of my adult life, I tried to tell my doctors that I felt that something was "off," but I felt that my doctors never really listened to me and brushed aside my symptoms. Within the first 5 minutes of my first conversation with Dr. Fischer, she was able to diagnose me with PCOS, which was one of the factors of our infertility. It was both reassuring and upsetting for me, and Dr. Fischer displayed so much compassion and gave my husband and me hope that we could conceive with fertility treatments. Dr. Fischer fully explained the treatments that were available to us, guided us on the probability of conception through IUI vs IVF, and never pushed us towards a specific treatment. (we decided on IVF due to the higher probability that we would conceive.) I was also so happy that Dr. Fischer was able to perform both my egg retrieval and embryo transfer. She also performed my last 2 ultrasounds at RMA after I was pregnant, which I was also happy about! I would definitely recommend Dr. Fischer- she is warm, compassionate, funny, and very knowledgeable.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Catha Fischer at RMA of Basking Ridge, New Jersey?
While RMA tries to help the patient with exploring treatment options and costs involved, make sure you do your own research and contact your insurance company to find out what is covered!
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Catha Fischer at RMA of Basking Ridge, New Jersey?
Dr. Fischer absolutely treated me as a human, but at times, the clinic itself felt like a "baby factory." I have absolutely zero criticisms of Dr. Fischer though! She is wonderful.
Describe the protocols Catha Fischer used in your cycles at RMA of Basking Ridge, New Jersey and their degree of success.
My husband and I decided to pursue IVF rather than try IUI first. The success rate of IVF was much higher for us, and we didn't want to wait any longer! I have PCOS and my husband also has an infertility factor having to do with his sperm (low morphology and motility,) and Dr. Fischer felt that we would be very successful with IVF. I did one cycle of ovarian stimulation injections for IVF. The embryos were biopsied and tested for genetic abnormalities (PGS testing.) Turns out my IVF cycle was very successful- we created 25 embryos and we decided to test 12. Amazingly, 11 of the 12 embryos were viable! The embryos were then frozen, and I had my embryo transfer a little over a month after my egg retrieval. I am currently 12 weeks pregnant!
Describe your experience with your nurse at RMA of Basking Ridge, New Jersey. (Assigned nurse: Adrienne)
The nurse assigned to me was always prompt with returning my phone calls and calling me to give medication instructions during my cycles. I really can't criticize too much, however, I felt that she didn't always communicate certain things to me. I felt that I had to ask a lot of questions in order to get all of the information I needed. For example, there are certain restrictions you have before and after egg retrieval as well as after the embryo transfer (i.e. what to avoid doing, such as exercising.) I felt that my nurse wasn't fully forthcoming with some of that information, so I researched a lot online, then asked her questions to confirm. At times I felt a little rushed during our calls as well. Also, when I spoke with other nurses that covered for my nurse when she was off, I felt that they spent more time with me on the phone, I didn't feel rushed, and they were more detailed about my treatments, what to expect, side effects, what to avoid, etc. So I think it really depends on which nurse is assigned to you and whether you will have a more positive experience.

Most of the doctors were great as well- I did not see my assigned doctor at every visit- I would see the doctor who was performing the ultrasounds that morning. (Dr. Margolis and Dr. Maguire were great!) I only had 2 bad experiences during ultrasounds- one doctor was kind of aggressive during an US during egg stimulation which was very painful, and another nurse practitioner was very insensitive to me when she found a sub-chorionic bump on my first US after I was pregnant, which scared me. There are times when you feel like "just a number," but overall, I had a good experience at RMA.
Describe your experience with your monitoring appointments at RMA of Basking Ridge, New Jersey.
The hours for monitoring are very early in the morning, which was fine with me because it worked well with my work schedule. I barely ever had to wait for blood work or ultrasound. I think there were maybe 3-4 times when I had to wait longer than usual.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Catha Fischer at RMA of Basking Ridge, New Jersey.
I was fortunate that my insurance covered all of the IVF procedures and most of my medications (or I had a small co-pay.) However, we still had out of pocket costs. If you pursue IVF, insurance does not cover embryo biopsy or genetic testing. You also have to pay a fee for each embryo you decide to test (I believe it was $200 per embryo.) You also have to pay out of pocket for cryopreservation, and you have to continue to pay an annual fee to keep them stored. I had a couple of other bills for one of my test procedures and for anesthesia during egg retrieval. In all, we spent a little over $6,000 for IVF.
Describe Catha Fischer's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at RMA of Basking Ridge, New Jersey.
RMA highly recommends single embryo transfer, which we were 100% fine with.
I really like Dr. Jurema, he's kind and patient - he's never hesitated to answer one of my questions and has been considerate of my emotions throughout the process. He's also done a great job communicating with my jokester husband during our consults as well! I have struggled with his availability a couple times, but it hasn't been anything that's deterred me significantly...
The registration process [at RMA of NJ] was a disaster - ideally they should just overhaul the phone/online system because I was invested in getting in there but it was really a nightmare trying to set up my first appointment. Overall - the portal seems really old and it's odd to me that you can't do everything in 1 place (scheduled appts, report day 1 via message and not just having to call, etc...Pill IUI was $1000-1500, injectable IUI was $3000+

During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Marcus Jurema at RMA of Basking Ridge, New Jersey?
I felt like it was right in between - treatments I would say a number (felt rushed/transactional), consultations I felt like a human (he would reference past conversations we had).
Describe the protocols Marcus Jurema used in your cycles at RMA of Basking Ridge, New Jersey and their degree of success.
I was told that I likely had PCOS so there needed to be regulation around my ovulation. We agreed that I would go through a few rounds of IUI as I was not comfortable skipping right to IVF (even though I could have), so I had 2 Letrazole + trigger shot IUI cycles and then 1 Follistim injectable + trigger shot IUI cycle.
Letrazole was truly awful in terms of mood swings and not feeling like myself. Follistim was even moreso. I shared symptoms for all of this and Dr. Jurema and I agreed that I was likely just very sensitive to the medications.
The pill IUIs only resulted in 1ish follicles each, so the goal of the injectible round was to aim for more follicles - I ended up reacting really well and had 3ish follicles that round (there was discussion that I may have 3-4 and I was cautioned that Dr. Jurema may have decided to cancel but he did not).
We've agreed that IVF is the best next step following 3 failed IUIs.
Describe your experience with your nurse at RMA of Basking Ridge, New Jersey. (Assigned nurse: Melissa)
Melissa was a wreck - bad communicator, I was consistently asking for details that I expected she would clearly lay out to me given this wasn't an experience I'd had previously and her overall demeanor came across so blah, not interested or invested. I asked to speak with someone about switching and was told she would be going on leave soon so I was getting a new nurse anyways (which was great news). Assuming I'd just hear from the new nurse based on my request, I was SO frustrated to get a voicemail from Melissa telling me that she was going out on maternity leave... are you kidding? Why would you share that with someone who had no idea you were pregnant and who was also trying to get pregnant themselves? It just seemed like a horrible move in terms of bedside manner/courtesy.
Describe your experience with RMA of Basking Ridge, New Jersey.
The registration process was a disaster - ideally they should just overhaul the phone/online system because I was invested in getting in there but it was really a nightmare trying to set up my first appointment. None of these are showstoppers just an annoying part of working with them.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Marcus Jurema at RMA of Basking Ridge, New Jersey.
Pill IUI was $1000-1500, injectable IUI was $3000+ (which was not communicated effectively nor explained effectively because frankly, it wasn't more effort for them so I didn't understand why I was paying more - same number of monitoring appts). Consults charged separately.

I had conflicting information shared around no having intercourse while going through IUI cycles - it was annoying but I worked with Dr. Jurema to get his position on it.
She [Dr. Shefali Shastri] tends to talk fast and passionately. Make sure you come prepared with questions and take notes so you do not miss anything...has excellent bedside manner and always gave us personalized attention during our visits. The very first time we tried to get an appointment with RMA, we were given incorrect information about requiring a referral. This did cause us to waste a few weeks. However, they did apologize and address their staff training when we brought it to their attention. They usually have breakfast items available for their early morning appointments which is a nice touch. Also have info on support groups and offer a free therapy session which is helpful.
How was your experience with Shefali Shastri at RMA of Basking Ridge, New Jersey?
We really like Dr. Shastri and highly recommend her. She is very knowledgeable and comfortable explaining the different treatment options and protocols available. We appreciate that while she is warm and approachable, Dr. Shastri is also direct and does not set unrealistically high expectations. She clearly explained the expected success rates and how they might relate to our particular situation. Her matter-of-fact approach and answers to our detailed questions worked well for us; however we understand that they may not be for everyone.

Dr. Bergh did not rush through my initial appointment and also agreed to perform my egg retrieval even though he was not the doctor on schedule for the day. He called to check on me after the retrieval and spent a lot of time on the phone explaining the results, etc. ... Dr. Bergh is very direct in his delivery, but also very kind and helpful. He genuinely wants to help you have a family.
RMA has a large network of offices in NJ so you can go to morning monitoring at any location. The Englewood office seems to be very slow at times for the bloodwork and ultrasound in the morning. In fairness, they do thoroughly disinfect after each patient and it adds to the wait time. I usually receive a call before noon with my results and instructions. Overall, RMA is very well organized and nothing is left to doubt.

In my initial consultation with him, he spent over an hour speaking to me, answering my questions, showing me statistics, etc. I never once felt rushed or like he was tired of my questions. He also made sure to call me the day of my egg retrieval (after the procedure) and was so supportive and empathetic to my situation. I did not achieve the desired result, but he was able to explain why and he helped boost me up and made me feel like he's a member of my team.
Describe the protocols Paul Bergh used in your cycles at RMA of Basking Ridge, New Jersey and their degree of success.
We are currently doing a back to back cycle (two stims phases right after each other). We had a luteal phase start for my first cycle with an egg retrieval. Now I will have a week off and will likely jump right back in to a stim cycle. I have low ovarian reserve and my egg quality is also poor, so the thought is this protocol will help jumpstart the follicle development and hopefully the better quality eggs will mature.
Describe your experience with your nurse at RMA of Basking Ridge, New Jersey. (Assigned nurse: Nicole S)
Nicole is a dream come true! I have been to other REs and the nursing staff is usually so busy and overwhelmed they don't have much time to discuss treatment etc. Nicole responds to all emails within a day and usually calls as well in case any questions arise from her explanations. She is extremely compassionate, empathetic and helpful. It is clear she is in constant contact with Dr. Bergh and discussed all concerns directly with the doctor.
Describe your experience with RMA of Basking Ridge, New Jersey.
The best thing is that the clinic has remained open during the covid-19 pandemic.
Describe your experience with your monitoring appointments at RMA of Basking Ridge, New Jersey.
Morning monitoring in Basking Ridge was efficient. Given the pandemic, weekend hours have been extended until 11 am. Those with a last name at the beginning of the alphabet were seen before 9 am and those at the end of the alphabet were seen between 9 am and 11 am. During the week I went to Englewood for monitoring hours. The team was less efficient and while they try to take people on a first come basis, it doesn't always work out that way. It can be frustrating to wait 40 minutes when there are only 5 patients in the office. Again, this may be due to the extra measures being taken for covid-19.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Paul Bergh at RMA of Basking Ridge, New Jersey.
Still undergoing treatment so final costs have not been determined. I do have coverage for treatment under my husband's insurance policy, but had to pay a $4000 co-pay prior to starting the cycle.
Describe Paul Bergh's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at RMA of Basking Ridge, New Jersey.
Dr. Werner is very kind, knowledgeable and professional. She gave us all the options when we came to her for consultation. She answered all my questions and never rushed us into making any decisions. So far I have gone through one IUI and one egg retrieval with Dr. Werner and we have 5 embroys ready to be transfered!...suggested IVF with ICSI due to minor male factor. We had 26 eggs retrieved due to PCOS and 5 embroys after PGS. Currently we are waiting for the transfer...strongly advised eSET becuase multiple embroy transter will increase the risk for both baby and the mother which I agreed.
we have spent around $2500 for one IUI and $20000 for IVF stimulation and egg retrieval [at RMA of New Jersey]...whole organization is working pretty efficient and professional, the clinic is very nice and clean...I think maybe becuase there are so many patients so there is not much customization treatment for individual patient. Also I was quite surprised to find RMANJ does not have a patient portal...Maryellen [nurse] was good with communication and calling me with results and instructions. However she seems not comfortable with email communications which was my prefered way of communication.

RMANJ is definately one of the best fertility clinics in the US, the whole organization is working pretty efficient and professional, the clinic is very nice and clean and most importantly their suceessful rate is one of the highest. What specific things went wrong at RMA of Basking Ridge, New Jersey?
Failed to call with results
Describe the specific things that went wrong at RMA of Basking Ridge, New Jersey.
There was one time I called my nurse for one of my bloodwork result, however there was no response. Also when I tried to email her, there was always delayed response.
Doctor Drews acknowledged in our first meeting this mistakes that were made by the first doctor and assured us he’d give us a different protocol for the second round. During the second round it was nearly impossible to see Dr.Drews. He didn’t even call us to share our results that this round was not successful - our nurse did and told us if we wanted to know why we could schedule to see him. I called several times to get an appointment with him and was told I’d have to wait about a month to even speak with him. When we did get to see him he gave us absolutely no definitive answers - he blamed smoking ( Neither of us are smokers ) he said it could be from medications but absolutely not one answer as to why. He then proceeded to push doner eggs. We both stated that It’s not something we’d want t
you will not likely see the same doctor twice in one cycle [at RMA of New Jersey]. It feels like a revolving door and you are on your own. No general information about what to do to have a successful cycle. Lack of explanation - they make you feel as if they don’t want to tell you much about what happened or they try to keep you in the dark - or they simply can’t answer you...It was supposed to be a different result from the first cycle. When the results seemed to be similar the week of the retrieval I asked if they’d suggest canceling the cycle and they did not agree and I felt their professional opinion would be better than mine. This cycle had worse results than the first.
How was your experience with Michael Drews at RMA of Basking Ridge, New Jersey?
Absolutely predatory, careless, checked out, cold, no compassion. A factory farm for IVF clinics. He said he would check in with my OBGYN and other doctors and he did not. Infect they were unable to be in touch with him too. - I understand fertility IQ only checks negative reviews. Which is very upsetting because I feel after this I’ve found other negative experiences with him from other sources. I wish that negative reviews were as welcomes as the positive reviews . I wouldn’t have waisted a round of IVF with them.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Michael Drews at RMA of Basking Ridge, New Jersey?
RUN
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Michael Drews at RMA of Basking Ridge, New Jersey?
We originally had decided on RMA because of a specific doctor. Half way through or first failed cycle - when calling to let us know that no embryos made it - he also let us know he’d be leaving to start another clinic in Cali. Which was something everyone at RMA knew when we started our first cycle. They attempted to push us on to another doctor that I met with and felt very uncomfortable with and we had to insist on seeing Dr.Drews who was recommended to us as the “ best doctor at the clinic” - it was a battle to even have a choice in what doctor we saw after they roped us in. The first round I’d like to add was botched - medications were not ordered - lack of contact - only saw the first doctor three times from the entire cycle. He did nothing but read results from a paper. He then proceeded to push doner eggs. We both stated that It’s not something we’d want to do. He continued to push and even said “ oh that’s what they all say I’m sure after a few years of trying unsuccessfully you’ll be back for the doner eggs”. I only saw/spoke doctor Drews twice during the entire cycle. Not available for questions, concerns, did not give any helpful information.
Describe the protocols Michael Drews used in your cycles at RMA of Basking Ridge, New Jersey and their degree of success.
It was supposed to be a slow grow of my eggs. It was supposed to be a different result from the first cycle. When the results seemed to be similar the week of the retrieval I asked if they’d suggest canceling the cycle and they did not agree and I felt their professional opinion would be better than mine. This cycle had worse results than the first.
Describe your experience with your nurse at RMA of Basking Ridge, New Jersey. (Assigned nurse: Our nurse was not from dr.drews team - she was the only one who was helpful in the entire clinic )
The primary nurse Christine was the only reason we trusted to stay for a second round. She was helpful but it also felt that she didn’t have time. She seemed to be the only one working in the clinic. I feel that if she had less on her plate our cycles would have been more successful. The ordering of medication was incorrect both cycles. The first cycle we confirmed the list of medications we had and that it was correct before we started. The day before we learned that it was not correct and had to order a trigger shot. The entire cycle was almost lost due to their lack of care or time. I partially blame the stressed RMA directly caused me for my first failed round.
Describe your experience with RMA of Basking Ridge, New Jersey.
Strengths - they’re very good sales people and the look and cleanliness of the facility.
Weakness - compassion, organization, doctors availability. The fact that you will not likely see the same doctor twice in one cycle. It feels like a revolving door and you are on your own. No general information about what to do to have a successful cycle. Lack of explanation - they make you feel as if they don’t want to tell you much about what happened or they try to keep you in the dark - or they simply can’t answer you.
Describe your experience with your monitoring appointments at RMA of Basking Ridge, New Jersey.
The monitoring appointments were fine. The nursing staff and staff that took blood were lovely.
The doctors for monitoring were different everyday. One being the one I felt very uncomfortable with. No consistency at all
Describe the costs associated with your care under Michael Drews at RMA of Basking Ridge, New Jersey.
Very expensive. Our cycles were covered by our Insurance however we had to pay a very large sum for our genetic testing.
The day before we started our second cycle at about 2:30 in the afternoon we received a call from Jenna in finance telling me that we had no IVF coverage which was not true. We spoke with our insurance provider who also assured us our insurance was in place. My husband and I both had to leave our work early to spend over three hours on the phone with Jenna and our insurance yo convince them that we have coverage. The insurance agent even put us on a three way call to tell her we have been approved for the cycle. The insurance agent was even irritated by their issues. The mistake in the end was on their part. Surprise surprise. They tell you don’t be stressed and then tell you the day before a cycle you have no insurance. Absolutely incompetent.
What specific things went wrong at RMA of Basking Ridge, New Jersey?
Failed to call in prescriptions to pharmacy
Lost paperwork
Failed to call with results
Failed to send your chart to another clinic
Provided conflicting information
Failed to convey critical information
Failed to consider drug intolerance
Describe the specific things that went wrong at RMA of Basking Ridge, New Jersey.
Failed to order proper medication for both cycles. Both times we had emailed our nurse with a list of the medications we did receive and we’re told that we had everything when in fact we did not. For the first cycle results we had to hunt down our first doctor on his last day with the clinic to get our results that had been sitting on his desk for days. For the results of our second cycle doctor Drews couldn’t even take 5 minutes to call and share the results or what went wrong himself. Our nurse called us and gave us the news in a quick 3 minute call and told us to schedule with him.
I had recurrent miscarriages and no one knew why. When we met Dr. Fischer, she provided us with more information than we had received over the course of 2 years...I was diagnosed with Balanced Translocation (BT). She spent about an hour going over the diagnosis...retrieval resulted in 33 eggs, 27 fertilized, 15 Day 5 blasts, and 5 were balanced/normal PGD...I'm currently 20 weeks pregnant with our miracle baby
The clinic [at RMA of New Jersey] itself is extremely well-coordinated, they use modern-day technology to communicate with their patients, and have an astounding turn around times for bloodwork. They work like a well-oiled machine. The staff is simply kind, efficient, and entirely intelligent...Sarah was readily available to us. She was punctual and always called with our daily plans and protocols.
How was your experience with Catha Fischer at RMA of Basking Ridge, New Jersey?
We met Dr. Fischer on our first consultation visit. My husband and I had seen a series of OBGYN's that just didn't know what was wrong with us. I had recurrent miscarriages and no one knew why. When we met Dr. Fischer, she provided us with more information than we had received over the course of 2 years. I won't lie, we left the clinic a bit overwhelmed with the amount of information that was laid on us. She called us back for testing, but I was working full time and felt like it was just too much. The clinic was so understanding of this when I canceled my appointment. I took a month-long break and then decided I was ready for testing. I went into the clinic and had everything drawn up. Dr. Fischer's response came fairly quickly after all the results were in. I was diagnosed with Balanced Translocation (BT). She spent about an hour going over the diagnosis. She waited patiently as I took notes and tried to understand what was going on and what my options were. She offered to call my husband and re-explain everything to him as well since he couldn't be on the call at the same time as me. She offered a couple of different solutions to our diagnosis but it was obvious that we needed to move forward with IVF with PGD testing in order to reduce the risk of having more miscarriages. Dr. Fischer was readily available for us, to prescribe medication as my bloodwork developed, to answer questions as they arose, and put us at realistic ease when things were really looking south. She performed both the retrieval and the transfer. During both procedures, we felt like we were in capable hands. My retrieval resulted in 33 eggs, 27 fertilized, 15 Day 5 blasts, and 5 were balanced/normal PGD. Her medical protocol had worked outstandingly for us. She really has a way of making you feel like you're her most important patient. The best part, I'm currently 20 weeks pregnant with our miracle baby.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Catha Fischer at RMA of Basking Ridge, New Jersey?
Don't be afraid to ask questions -- she has so much to offer, take advantage of it!
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Catha Fischer at RMA of Basking Ridge, New Jersey?
Dr. Fischer was extremely empathetic as we navigated uncharted territories. When I came to her I had experienced two losses; before even getting to the testing portion I felt extremely overwhelmed coming into a fertility clinic. Dr. Fischer took her time with us, she was extremely patient as we came to terms with our diagnosis. She called and explained everything thoroughly and ensured I understood every aspect of it. She has an extremely calming demeanor that just puts you at ease. I'm not sure how it's possible, but out of her all her patients she truly makes you feel like she knows you well. She remembers details of things you've told her medically and not. She greets you as if she's known you forever. Small things like this made us feel like we were not only in capable hands, but caring ones too.
Describe your experience with your nurse at RMA of Basking Ridge, New Jersey. (Assigned nurse: Sarah Robinson)
Sarah was readily available to us. She was punctual and always called with our daily plans and protocols. She took the time to explain everything to us. She did everything she was supposed to. I will say, my one frustration with her, was that it always felt like I was inconveniencing her with questions. She comes off as mildly annoyed a bit. Not sure if it was personal, or the job. In the end, she always came through, but there was always a tiny bit of snark.
Describe your experience with RMA of Basking Ridge, New Jersey.
RMA is one of the best clinics I have ever heard of. I am so blessed to have found them and be a part of their patient community. They work like a well-oiled machine. The staff is simply kind, efficient, and entirely intelligent.
Describe your experience with your monitoring appointments at RMA of Basking Ridge, New Jersey.
Monitoring appointments were always every morning from 5:45 AM to 7:30 AM. If you needed to go in over the weekend, the office would then transfer you to Basking Ridge. They were usually very quick, I would be in an out within 30 minutes. I think on two occasions they were quite overwhelmed and it took longer -- closer to an hour. I suspect because those were days coming off of holidays / long weekends. Either way, the entire process itself was very efficient.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Catha Fischer at RMA of Basking Ridge, New Jersey.
Insurance did not cover anything, everything was out of pocket. It cost us about 30k for one full IVF cycle (including testing, bloodwork, retrieval, PGD testing, and retrieval). It will continue to cost us $1200 every year to keep our embryos on ice, and furthermore when we transfer future embryos.
Dr. Hong was warm and welcoming from the beginning. As a woman of color, infertility is not often talked about and she really allowed me the opportunity to express the struggles behind that. Dr. Hong explained the process in terms that I could educate our family and friends with as well. She provided us all the facts, details, etc. yet allowed us to make our own informed decisions...She developed a great relationship with my husband which made him feel equally as comfortable...
Mary Ellen [nurse at RMA of New Jersey] was super helpful in answering all my questions or connecting me with the doctor. I often reached out to double check things and she happily went over my questions in detail. She was great. I worked with Emily briefly when starting a new transfer that has been put on hold. She has been wonderful, checking in and keeping in touch....RMA is doing whatever they can to serve their patients, while making them feel comfortable and less alone than we already do....
How was your experience with Kathleen Hong at RMA of Basking Ridge, New Jersey?
Dr. Hong was compassionate and honest from the very beginning. She called us on Chrtistmas Eve with our embryo results because she knew my anxiety would not allow me to enjoy the holiday. She developed a great relationship with my husband which made him feel equally as comfortable. Dr. Hong is an extension of our family and has restored my faith in doctors, medicine and science as a whole.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Kathleen Hong at RMA of Basking Ridge, New Jersey?
Tell her eveything. Your thoughts your fears your likes and dislikes. She is so genuine and will tailor your experience to your needs physically mentally and emotionally which is beyond incredible!

I do not recall the specifics but most insurances do not cover embryo storage or the PGS testing. The testing can be costly however we felt it was the best approach for our diagnosis.
Describe Kathleen Hong's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at RMA of Basking Ridge, New Jersey.
Dr. Hong assured us that a single embryo transfer was the safest and had the great success for a pregnancy for our diagnosis.
Dr. Kaser is very patient and kind.l had a lot of questions for him and he was able to answer all of them during our appointment. He performed my saline sonogram and my initial consult sonogram. He walked me through the whole IVF process then circled back to my immediate next steps....IVF- saline sonogram to confirm presence of fibroids, scar tissue, etc. Sema4 genetic testing to confirm my partner and I are not carriers for the same diseases. Nutritional consult for healthy lifestyle. IVF egg retrieval medications
RMANJ has Lots of locations, caring and understanding staff, high live birth success rate. Would love if all locations had weekend hours, but we were able to make all of our appointments within reason. They are very open with information and data. The finance department is probably the weakest department, not as sensitive to the large sum of money, ask you to do a lot of calls to your own insurance.... Monitoring would be in the early morning hours

Monitoring would be in the early morning hours, everyone who arrives gets seen in the order they arrive. It was never a long wait. Dr. Bergh has great bedside manner. He remembered me from my initial visits five years prior and offered great support as I decided between two paths to motherhood.... Dr. Bergh gave me hope for fertility preservation after cancer, even while being honest about my limited chances. He clearly explained each part of the process and what it meant for my future. He brought compassion and humor when my news wasn’t what I was hoping for and helped me navigate my next steps.

I had to do two separate egg retrieval’s as my first med protocol did not stimulate me well enough. This was a challenge due to my low AMH and ovary recovering from cancer surgery. The second protocol produce three times more eggs and was much more successful.

My fertility preservation was largely covered by a grant for cancer patients.
Dr Bergh took the time to talk to me individually and explain the treatment process and why he was opting to do that process over others....Dr Bergh was very candid with me and told me "how it was". He didn't sidestep anything because it was uncomfortable, he just said it in a blunt yet respectful manner. After I had a bad reaction to the medicine the first round, he worked with me to figure out a plan and continues to do so afterwards.
The clinic [RMA of NJ] is definitely a baby making machine, so it is very regimented. I enjoy the process however it is not for everyone. I think there could be a bit more explanations during procedures and some more time spent with patients. It seems as if the phlebotomists are all very different and not all care for the patient and it is shown by how they draw the blood.... Jackie has been a god-send during this process. She has a very upbeat personality and is always willing to talk or answer any questions I may have.

I am on track to do 4 medicated IUI cycles and if they do not take, move forward with IVF. First IUI I was given 50mg Gonal-F and then was increased to 150mg with an Ovradrell trigger shot. After starting the Gonal-F, my migraines that I have had since a teenager were uncontrollable. Reaching out to Dr Bergh regarding this, he switched my medicine to Clomid, 50mg for the second cycle. If the 4 IUI's do not take, I will meet with him beforehand to discuss the treatment options for IVF due to the necessary medication.

Describe your experience with RMA of Basking Ridge, New Jersey.
The clinic is definitely a baby making machine, so it is very regimented. I enjoy the process however it is not for everyone. I think there could be a bit more explanations during procedures and some more time spent with patients. It seems as if the phlebotomists are all very different and not all care for the patient and it is shown by how they draw the blood.

Describe Paul Bergh's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at RMA of Basking Ridge, New Jersey.
Dr. Fischer was extremely kind, answered all my questions, scheduled extra phone calls when I wanted to, and was also extremely positive even when we received what I thought was discouraging news. She pointed out reasons for hope and optimism and was encouraging the whole way.... We did the strongest protocol ("maxed out") due to my low AFC and AMH, which meant that I took hcg with Follistim 450. Then I took cetrotide for the trigger shot.
The clinic [RMA of New Jersey] was well organized and clearly thought of the patient when designing the space. The wait room was huge, so even though there was always a lot of people there, you really didn't feel like cattle (as I've heard other clinics feel like) and it's comfortable with reasonable wait times. Everyone was really nice.... My nurse was nice. The only problem was, she had a variable schedule and I was often having to be in contact with other nurses in order to figure things out. So there was a little confusion on who to contact when, but overall it was fine.
How was your experience with Catha Fischer at RMA of Basking Ridge, New Jersey?
I really liked Dr. Fischer as my doctor. She was warm, patient, reassuring, and supportive. The only question I had was whether her lack of experience was going to impact anything (she only recently started practicing). But in terms of bedside manner, she was wonderful.

Describe the specific things that went wrong at RMA of Basking Ridge, New Jersey.
I was doing some of my monitoring visits at a different clinic, which was closer to my home. There were two mornings that I showed up and my orders were not in their system, which meant a lot of phone calls and waiting around to figure it out. One of those times I believe it was the other clinic's fault, but one time the nurse had forgotten to send them over.
Because I have PCOS and my ovaries are easily stimulated, he [Dr. Emre Seli] chose for one embryo [transfer] because it was the most healthiest for my body...He called me personally to check up on me and to see where I was at mentally especially after my egg retrieval and miscarriage...We had to be careful with the IUI because I had a lot of eggs so since we didn’t want multiples, Dr. Seli took every precaution to make that happen. I had an egg retrieval which produced a lot of eggs. Then onto IVF which resulted in a pregnancy but then a miscarriage. He made sure I was mentally ready and that my body was ready for another chance.

In the beginning my nurse was very compassionate and caring. She always answered my questions but towards the end she had a family emergency and hard to get a hold of. The other nurses who filled in for her were very knowledgeable and helpful.

between the IUI, medication, egg l, embryo storage and IVF cycles, it costed around $10,000. My insurance covered a lot more of it but we did have to take out a loan for $5400 for the retrieval, storage fees and medication.
