Attention to Detail

Attention to detail is on a 1 - 10 scale, and is scored based on the rate, and severity, of errors committed by the clinic according to the patients.

For example, a severe error might be failing to inform a patient of critical information, while a small error might be failing to call a patient with results.

CDC Success Rates

This is the most recent data from the CDC. The CDC cautions that it should not be used to compare doctors and clinics. This data represents the outcomes of IVF cycles when using a person's own eggs.

For more information please see our FAQs.

Where you see a “?” on the chart, a clinic has done fewer than 20 cycles in this category and age range, so the CDC says showing percentages from this small data set would be misleading and unreliable.

Dr. Friedenthal is very intelligent and empathetic. She took the time to hear our goals and explained options in a thoughtful manner. When our initial plan didn't go as expected, she talked us through our other options. When we left the country for a few weeks, she made sure her and her practice checked in on us. Throughout the process, we felt well supported by Dr. Friedenthal...She is very empathetic and takes the time to answer questions.
[RMA of New York] Strengths - excellent network of providers, kind staff, clean and inviting facility. Weaknesses - the logistics are difficult to navigate. Each patient is assigned an IVF coordinator, who is helpful in determining next steps. However, given the high volume of patients, there are many points of contacts throughout treatment. For most correspondence, you have to call in to the clinic's main line and wait for a nurse or staff member to call back, which sometimes takes too long for time-sensitive concerns. It does seem like everyone cares about the mission and the patients, but the stress of navigating these logistics made the treatment more cumbersome. It would be helpful to have an online portal for patients to ask questions to their team of providers/staff.

During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Jenna Friedenthal at RMA of New York?
Dr. Friedenthal's care was incredible. She is very empathetic and takes the time to answer questions. However, given the large number of patients seen by the facility, most of the monitoring appointments and correspondence are conducted by varying members of their team. Their bedside manner varies and the fragmented care unfortunately made the process seem confusing, especially in the beginning.
Describe the protocols Jenna Friedenthal used in your cycles at RMA of New York and their degree of success.
I underwent 3 rounds of IVF to freeze embryos for the future (given my diagnosis of diminished ovarian reserve). The first resulted in the retrieval of 6 eggs and 1 mosaic embryo. After consulting with our doctor, we tried another round of IVF with a more aggressive medication plan. In this round, Menopur was replaced with an alternate due to supply shortages. The cycle did not result in a retrieval. A third round with Menopur also did not result in a retrieval. We then proceeded to IUI - the first round did not result in a pregnancy but the second round did.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at RMA of New York.
I spoke with several nurses during the monitoring appointments. All were informative. However, their bedside manner varied and since I did not have a primary nurse, they were often not able to answer questions specific to my protocol if it deviated from the norm.

Describe your experience with your monitoring appointments at RMA of New York.
I was appreciate of there being monitoring hours before my 9am work schedule. If I went in early (7:30am), the wait for the blood draw and ultrasound was not bad at all.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Jenna Friedenthal at RMA of New York.
The costs were fairly standard for an IVF cycle in NYC ($30,000 per cycle I believe). IUI was significantly less expensive. My insurance plan covered most of these costs aside from some co-payments, anesthesia for the retrieval and PGT testing of the embryos.
What specific things went wrong at RMA of New York?
  • Failed to inform you of changes in protocol
  • Provided conflicting information
Describe the specific things that went wrong at RMA of New York.
In particular, it would be helpful if RMA was in close contact with the pharmacy to keep abreast of supply shortages. In fulfilling a time-sensitive request with the pharmacy, I learned one of the key medications was not available only after the remaining medications had been sent. I had to scramble to work with the clinic to order a replacement medication in time.

The care I’ve received from Dr Jackson-Bey and her team was excellent. Throughout this entire process from initial consultation, to starting the egg freezing protocol, to prep for the retrieval - I felt heard and cared for as a patient. I was on the antagonist protocol for egg freezing. Given my high AMH level Dr Jackson-Bey always monitored my levels and adjust my dosage during the hormone injections monitoring everything closely to ensure I wouldn’t be at risk for ovarian hyper stimulation syndrome.

The care coordinator was highly organized in communicating next steps and clearance needed for beginning the egg freezing protocol. She helped schedule all of my screening visits at times that worked best for my schedule. The nurses were always very thorough in explaining my labs and ultrasound results post my morning monitoring visits. They also provided all the resources needed to help me understand medication administration.

Dr. Setton was not only super smart and knowledgeable, but also treated me like a human...You can easily tell that he knows what he's talking about and is passionate about his work...shared about his personal life and experience with me which helped to make me feel connected to him as a person and provider for my wellbeing.
RMA is a big clinic and I know a lot of describe it as a "factory" and I can understand why even if that wasn't my personal experience. On the flip side (in my experience) them being able to take in such volume means they are able to do a of of things in house and quickly which I appreciated...Sarah is AMAZING!!! Sarah is a smart, sharp, and caring nurse
How was your experience with Robert Setton at RMA of New York?
Dr Setton is a very kind, smart, and caring doctor. You can easily tell that he knows what he's talking about and is passionate about his work. He also shared about his personal life and experience with me which helped to make me feel connected to him as a person and provider for my wellbeing.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Robert Setton at RMA of New York?
First, that he is a wonderful doctor and his team is great. Second, that you can be totally open and honest with him and he'll always make you feel heard and give you a thoughtful response to your concern. Don't hesitate to choose Dr Setton.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Robert Setton at RMA of New York?
Dr. Setton was not only super smart and knowledgeable, but also treated me like a human. During this process a lot of questions and concerns arise, and him and the team we're so thoughtful, caring, and timely in their responses. Over the years, I have met many other healthcare practitioners who seem like they're just going down the list of questions and answers and it feels like they're only working within the bounds of their healthcare insurance and liability issues and forget that you're a human coming to them with a real problem and concern. Dr Setton and his team truly cared about me and were so kind and patient during our time together, I wish there were more doctors that had his approach and humility.
Describe your experience with your nurse at RMA of New York. (Assigned nurse: Sarah)
Dr Setton's nurse Sarah is AMAZING!!! Sarah is a smart, sharp, and caring nurse. She was always so quick to respond with knowledgeable answers and was empowered to help make my experience at RMA smooth and successful. She was equally valuable and helpful in my experience as Dr Setton was. They make an incredible team. I haven't worked with other Drs at the practice, but I would definitely recommend that their working model be replicated.

On the flip side (in my experience) them being able to take in such volume means they are able to do a of of things in house and quickly which I appreciated. I will say that at the end of the day, for me it's less about the clinic itself and more about the wonderful experience I had with Dr Setton and his team that made me satisfied with RMA as a clinic.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Robert Setton at RMA of New York.
My treatment was fully covered by my insurance. I appreciated that after my initial consultation there was a financial advisor who sat down with me and my husband to go over what potential costs could be associated and what was covered by my insurance.

She [Dr. Tia Jackson-Bey] was present throughout the majority of my appointments and she always made me feel confident about the outcome of procedures. She was right on point and I trusted her decision making a lot. She was diligent and she made great decisions throughout that resulted in a successful pregnancy after the first egg retrieval and subsequent transfer...She gave me a lot of confidence throughout the whole fertility process, without her wonderful bedside manner I wouldn’t have been able to do it.
At times they [RMA of New York] were very busy and the wait times were long. But, I’d say 85 percent of the time I was seen right on time which is great considering how often I would go there for appointments. The other doctors on site were also amazing, so when my doctor wasn’t available I felt comfortable being seen by the other doctors. The ladies at the front desk weren’t the most friendly but they were professional and the waiting room is a serene setting

Describe the protocols Tia Jackson-Bey used in your cycles at RMA of New York and their degree of success.
At first we did a lot of testing for my partner and I to determine the reason for our unexplained infertility. She knew I was apprehensive to do IVF and she was never judgemental about that and encouraged me to try IUI’s once everything looked clear and healthy for my partner and I. We tried 4 IUI’s and they did not result in pregnancy so I told Dr. Jackson I would like to go for IVF. She was very attentive during the entire process and she said that she would consider 8 eggs a success and that she is optimistic that we could be successful in the first round. She was right. We got pregnant after our first transfer and I was stunned.

Our insurance covered a lot of it
Describe Tia Jackson-Bey's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at RMA of New York.
We never actually discussed this, I just assumed we would do one transfer since we got a grade A embryo and that’s exactly what she did

[Dr. Jovana Lekovich is] caring and easy to talk to - knowledgeable: especially around LGBTQI+ care - very professional - will give you information based on data - takes the time to explain the process and helps you understand it better - supportive and reassuring you throughout the process...I could not imagine going through the egg retrieval process without someone as caring, kind, and incredibly knowledgeable as Dr. Jovana Lekovich.
[RMA of New York] clean and airy facility - great intake process, easy to follow, and thought out for the patient to get the most out of it while there - front desk is efficient at checking you in - phlebotomists - are very kind and respectful They have multiple clinics - the Brooklyn one is also more diverse when it comes to other clients too...My pronouns were always used appropriately and respectful language was used all the time. Furthermore, I did not feel discriminated, but on the contrary it was nice not having to explain my care needs.

What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Jovana Lekovich at RMA of New York?
Be a bit flexible with your time, sometimes appointments can take longer or less. But be assured they are doing their best to accommodate you.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Jovana Lekovich at RMA of New York?
I could not imagine going through the egg retrieval process without someone as caring, kind, and incredibly knowledgeable as Dr. Jovana Lekovich. The first time I met her for our consultation, she walked me through the entire process, explaining every scientific aspect (even had a nice visual presentation!), answering patiently and non-judgmentally all my questions, and reaching out when I had specific concerns. To add to this, I did not feel that a doctor was talking down to me, but rather that she was on a journey with me. She patiently listened to my concerns and discussed all options that I had. Following up, when I met her for the first time in person, she was very easy going, friendly, with a great sense of humor, and the kind of doctor who was concerned about my overall well being. Furthermore, as an LGBTQI+ patient, my specific concerns were always addressed and understood. As an example, there were certain procedures that would have made me as a transgender man incredibly uncomfortable, but we still found workarounds to have a successful outcome without risking the rest of my well-being. It is really refreshing to have a doctor who is informed about LGBTQI+ issues, isn't uncomfortable around it, and will work with you using research and data when presenting you with information. It was really in her manner, knowledge about the LGBTQI+ issues, and care that I nevertheless found comfort in a process that can be incredibly triggering. That being said, I am incredibly grateful to have had a successful egg retrieval experience, due to the care of such an amazing doctor and her team. I highly recommend her!
How competent was Jovana Lekovich at LGBTQ+ care?
Yes, yes, and 100%. My pronouns were always used appropriately and respectful language was used all the time. Furthermore, I did not feel discriminated, but on the contrary it was nice not having to explain my care needs.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at RMA of New York.

Dr. Lekovich is incredibly intelligent, kind, and an overall badass superhero doctor! She was very patient with me and made me feel like I was in excellent, expert hands throughout the process. She was also my husband's provider, and I felt the same level of care from her throughout both our processes...also provided care to my transgender partner and went above and beyond to make him feel comfortable and respected throughout a potentially triggering process.
[RMA of New York] Strengths: multiple locations, so you can choose monitoring appointments at locations convenient for you; incredibly talented doctors Weaknesses: sometimes response to emails is slow and disorganized and you just have to be patient (they will address everything eventually!)...Very efficient system for monitoring appointments. As a doctor myself, I was impressed with how smooth their flow was. Also very easily to reschedule monitoring appointments or change them to a different clinic location.

Don't be disappointed if you don't see her for every appointment.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Jovana Lekovich at RMA of New York?
Dr. Lekovich is very personable. She always asked about my family, remembered details about working with me over several years, and seemed to genuinely care about me. I only wish I had been able to see her more often (for all monitoring appointments and the actual retrieval procedure).
Describe the protocols Jovana Lekovich used in your cycles at RMA of New York and their degree of success.
Antagonist stim protocol. 225IU gonal f in the morning + 150-225IU menopur in the evening with ultrasound and bloodwork monitoring every 1-3 days, 250mcg cetrotide in the evenings starting around day 7, then trigger shots (novarel + leuprolide acetate) 36h before retrieval procedure. Not sure what the rationale was, but had 26 oocytes retrieved (not yet sure how many frozen).
How competent was Jovana Lekovich at LGBTQ+ care?
Yes; Dr. Lekovich also provided care to my transgender partner and went above and beyond to make him feel comfortable and respected throughout a potentially triggering process.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at RMA of New York.
Nursing staff was always very thorough when answering phone calls or emails. Shout-out to Julie for her empathy, kindness, and compassion!

I don’t believe she [Dr. Lekovich] looked over my husband’s or my medical history thoroughly before diagnosing us. She was late for our second zoom meeting. I didn’t feel like she had good bedside manners... She said most likely the case for our infertility is the age and numbers of my eggs or endometriosis. I had previously gotten an Ahm test result from my gynecologist and my Ahm result was 2.9. But, when I took another Ahm test at RMA, my result was 0.9. I also have no symptoms or history of endometriosis...
The on-site nurses [at RMA of New York] are great… their scheduling staff are not organized at all. I kept asking for guidance on my procedure, no one can forward and ease my frustration even after I mentioned to one of the nurses that I was losing confidence with this clinic...there was no clear guidance. The brochure that I was provided did not provide info on the process timeline or step by step process either. And no one called and walked me through the process, so I had to constantly called the clinic to find when was my next appointment. I had to do my own research on what medications that I needed to be on and had to inform the on-site doctor that I was missing a prescription for one of the medications that I needed to be on before the day of the procedure...

I don’t believe she looked over my husband’s or my medical history thoroughly before diagnosing us. She was late for our second zoom meeting. I didn’t feel like she had good bedside manners. After my second meeting with her, I felt like it was made to feel bad because of my age and my egg count.

Get second opinion.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Jovana Lekovich at RMA of New York?
After our first consultation, the doctor diagnosed my partner and I with unexplained infertility. She said most likely the case for our infertility is the age and numbers of my eggs or endometriosis. I had previously gotten an Ahm test result from my gynecologist and my Ahm result was 2.9. But, when I took another Ahm test at RMA, my result was 0.9. I also have no symptoms or history of endometriosis. She also mentioned that she work with 1000s of patients already. That made feel like that I was just a number to her. Also, my husband had done a semen analysis and he had slow sperm mobility. This was the factor that we went to see a specialist, but she made no mention of that be a possibility being one of the issues for our infertility. After this experience, I went to another clinic and took another AHM test, and my result came back with 2.9.
Describe the protocols Jovana Lekovich used in your cycles at RMA of New York and their degree of success.
At the start of my iui procedure, when I went on and took a blood test on day 2 and then I was prescribed clomid for 5 days. On the 7th day, I went back to the clinic had an ultrasound. They checked my egg follicles. They told me to come back in two days for the procedure. After I left the clinic, 7 hours later they called me and told me several of my eggs are maturing around the same time. If I waited two days later, I run the risk of multiple pregnancies. So, I need to make a decision right away and start the IUI procedure the very next day. So, I had to take the Ovidrel that night and also was prescribed V-estrace. Then the next day, my husband and I went back, we did the IUI process.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at RMA of New York.
The on-site nurses were wonderful… but whoever that was supposed to be in charge of handling my case was super disorganized.

Describe the specific things that went wrong at RMA of New York.

I had to do my own research on what medications that I needed to be on and had to inform the on-site doctor that I was missing a prescription for one of the medications that I needed to be on before the day of the procedure. Because of the delay, I had to pay out of pocket for medications instead of having my insurance covered it. It was absolutely the most stressful experience that I had.

She [Dr. Jackson-Bey] displayed her strengths and that is first her expertise/knowledge in this area or field. She exhibit that she have mastered the skill of time management not allowing me wait long periods of time despite me arriving late to appointment. She is the fastest doctor I have seen in the health care system who knows where to begin when entering the treatment room and end it by asking if I have any questions for her. Her tone and delivery of information as well as the level of care made my experience a memorable one....

What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Tia Jackson-Bey at RMA of New York?
"You are in good hands" as Dr. Tia Jackson-Bey said to me on Friday September 2, 2022 before my egg retrieval procedure.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Tia Jackson-Bey at RMA of New York?
Her professionalism and work ethic is what made me feel like a human being. Her expertise/knowledge, her communication, tone and delivery of information is what made me feel like a human being. She is also fast/quick where patients are not waiting long periods of time.
Describe the protocols Tia Jackson-Bey used in your cycles at RMA of New York and their degree of success.
I did not have the funds and was waiting for the paperwork to be completed with the company RMA contracts to be approved for a loan. The strategy that Dr. Tia Jackson-Bey recommended was take birth control to hold off my cycle and give time for the paperwork to be completed for 10 days and then start my cycle. Or I could wait until the end of August to begin a new cycle. She gave me options to choose. Secondly, after choosing to take birth control and assessing that it did not work at time of appointment. She recommend that I return back to the clinic another week for assessment. By then I was recommend to take one of the injections medication before returning. The rationale for this was so that my paperwork can be completed within the time frame taking the birth control. Second, when the birth control did not work the injection medication was the next option. That did not work as only one follicle developed so waiting for my next cycle to come was the last option which was a success and started treatment.
Describe your experience with your nurse at RMA of New York. (Assigned nurse: Lucy Arnerich-Hatch )
There are no weaknesses I detected from Lucy Arnerich-Hatch. This RN played a significant role where I gained the confidence to learn how to inject myself with the medication. She is extremely patient, allowed me to stop her to obtain more clarity even when I repeated myself over and over to her and she would confirm. The written instructions sent me via email was clear, specific, detail and this made my experience injecting the medication an smooth and educational process. I would ask her to please call me back when I was in case conference because it was extremely important to me to hear everything she had to say although I would get an email. She is a teacher and love everything about her professionalism. During my tutorial, she had a sample to show me how to mix the medication and inject.
Describe your experience with RMA of New York.
There are cleaning supplies everywhere front desk, waiting area, bathroom and in the treatment rooms. The clinic is clean and spacious. The staff are accommodating and clean the chairs and pen upon request. Even if they did, they do it again for me to see and feel comfortable. There no weaknesses I have detected about this location.

As a women of color, it was important to me and my partner to find a doctor whom had familiarity of health concerns that arrises for my demographic...I felt as though I was Dr. Jackson Bey only patient when I knew I wasn't. How was your experience with Tia Jackson-Bey at RMA of New York?
When I first met Dr. Jackson-Bey I was open and honest about my bad experience from the previous fertility clinic. Going through fertility issues is alot emotionally and mentally. I expressed to Dr. Jackson-Bey my desires to have a child of my own. She went over my previous cycle as well as expressed why the cycle option she selected for me would be beneficial. From my first visit, I immediately experienced positive variations from my first clinic. She gave me 3D sonogram because I had some fibrous. She also was able to explain in detail what additional test as well as prenatal vitamins to help support me with my cycle.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Tia Jackson-Bey at RMA of New York?
Be positive. I struggled a-lot with not being empathetic. I felt as though I was Dr. Jackson Bey only patient when I knew I wasn't. I would say to also be patient with how fast she responds back to your email. Other than that, in my experience I had a wonderful with Dr. Jackson-Bey and her amazing staff at RMANY
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Tia Jackson-Bey at RMA of New York?
Dr. Bey- Jackson was amazing. From our first consultation to my current situation she has been great. Every question I had she answered openly and honestly. As a women of color, it was important to me and my partner to find a doctor whom had familiarity of health concerns that arrises for my demographic. Dr. Bey- Jackson is the type of doctor that families having issues with infertility need.
Describe the protocols Tia Jackson-Bey used in your cycles at RMA of New York and their degree of success.
My first cycle that wasn't conducted at RMANY, I did a natural cycle. My first cycle didn't result in a pregnancy. After going over my results, it was discovered I had endometriosis and needed further treatment before going through another cycle. I also have PCOS and low thyroid issues. Dr. Jackson Bey suggested for this cycle I try a medicated cycle. I first started with injections to help me produce quality eggs. On the day of my egg retrieval, I could bailey walk and I didn't know why until my retrieval was over. Dr Jackson Bey was able to retrieve 40 eggs. From the 40, 30 eggs fertilized and 26 turned into embryos. At my previous clinic, my doctor was only able to retrieve 12 eggs and 7 fertilized and 4 turned into embryos . Me and my partner decided to do PGT testing to eliminate not having a successful cycle. We only tested 4 embryos and out of the 4, 1 came back abnormal. PGT wasn't covered by my insurance so it cost us about $2,400 and to have each embryo tested was $150 per embryo. Once we got the results back, we completed our Transfer in May and in 2 weeks we got the positive news that our prays have been answered and Dr. Jackson Bey confirmed that we were pregnant. I still cant believe it. Dr Jackson Bey was able to look at my medical history and determine the best cycle option for me and my partner.

Describe the costs associated with your care under Tia Jackson-Bey at RMA of New York.
My medical insurance covered my cycle. My out of pocket cost were co-pays, cost of medication (varies by cycle), PGT testing ($2400) and embryo testing ($150 per embryo)
Describe Tia Jackson-Bey's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at RMA of New York.
Dr. Jackson Bey suggested one embryo transfer due to my age as well as the risk factors that come with multiple pregnancy. Me and my partner did desire to have twins but we understood and respected her expertise.

[Dr. Lekovich] was cordial (if not exactly warm), and seemed very knowledgeable about the topic of fertility. She ordered the full workup of hormone testing and also performed one ultrasound...[she] didn't explain or provide much context for the genetic testing that she recommended - I would later learn that this was "expanded carrier testing" and considered elective/experimental by most health insurers, and thus not covered by insurance
my overall experience with RMA - Brooklyn was mixed. I had a solid experience with Dr. Lekovich, but I had some issues with the finance office and very limited contact with nursing staff, other than the doctor's assistant (nurse/PA)...Cons are a seeming lack of transparency and miscommunication in the clinic's billing practices. My experience in terms of scheduling and communication of test results was fine, if routine.
How was your experience with Jovana Lekovich at RMA of New York?
I saw Dr. Jovana Lekovich in April 2021, and explained to her that I wanted to get a full workup so that I could get a better idea of the state of my fertility, given that I was almost 35. She was cordial (if not that warm) and seemed very knowledgeable about the topic of fertility. She ordered the full workup of hormone testing and also performed one ultrasound (during the 1st visit). She told me that my egg reserve appeared normal and suggested another ultrasound in a 2- 3 weeks because there was something blocking her view of one of the fallopian tubes. During the 1st visit, she also discussed my family history and explain that lab tests done in a doctor's office are generally more reliable than at- home lab tests, which I had a few of prior to making this visit. One area where my experience fell short was the recommendation by the doctor to have genetic testing performed. She said that I should have genetic testing done (and when I asked her wasn't that only for pregnant women, she said that it was a good idea for everyone). Dr. Lekovich didn't explain or provide much context for the genetic testing that she recommended - I would later learn that this was "expanded carrier testing" and considered elective/experimental by most health insurers, and thus not covered by insurance. The only other thing that was off was the doctor's comment that maybe I wasn't trying hard enough to conceive. I felt that this was a bit presumptive but maybe that was just me. I feel that my overall experience with Dr. Lekovich was positive, if brief. She obviously has expertise with fertility topics and the various types of infertility and related medical conditions. While her bedside manner is a bit lacking, she is very intelligent and knowledgeable in the field of reproductive endocrinology, and that is what matters to me.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Jovana Lekovich at RMA of New York?
I would say to ask as many questions as you can about recommended tests or procedures, before agreeing to have them done. I would also say to not expect Dr. Lekovich to hold your hand at any point during the process.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Jovana Lekovich at RMA of New York?
I found RMA through searching my then - health insurer's website, and called them to make an appointment for a consultation. That part was straightforward enough. I saw Dr. Jovana Lekovich on a chilly weekday afternoon in April 2021, and explained to her that I wanted to get a full workup so that I could get a better idea of the state of my fertility, given that I was soon to be 35. She was cordial (if not exactly warm), and seemed very knowledgeable about the topic of fertility. She ordered the full workup of hormone testing and also performed one ultrasound (during the 1st visit). I saw her for one add'l visit after the initial consult - for another ultrasound. I gave this rating because 1) I felt like I wasn't treated particularly well by staff other than Dr. Lekovich and her assistant (a nurse/PA), and 2) Dr. Lekovich didn't explain or provide much context for the genetic testing that she recommended - I would later learn that this was "expanded carrier testing" and considered elective/experimental by most health insurers, and thus not covered by insurance. I received phone calls from different individuals at RMA with my lab test results after the 1st visit and to schedule my next visit after the 2nd visit, and I just got the feeling that I was just another call on their list that day.
Describe the protocols Jovana Lekovich used in your cycles at RMA of New York and their degree of success.
Not applicable in my case -- I only had a consultation and lab testing.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at RMA of New York.
I visited RMA twice in 2021 - in April for the initial consultation and then in May for an ultrasound. I had limited contact with nursing staff, however, I did have a positive experience with her assistant, a young nurse/PA, who drew my blood on the first visit. Other than my experience with the doctor's assistant, I received phone calls from different individuals at RMA with my lab test results after the 1st visit and to schedule my next visit after the 2nd visit. These interactions felt routine and I just got the feeling that I was just another call on their list that day.
Describe your experience with RMA of New York.
I'd say that my overall experience with RMA - Brooklyn was mixed. I had a solid experience with Dr. Lekovich, but I had some issues with the finance office and very limited contact with nursing staff, other than the doctor's assistant (nurse/PA). Pros are obviously the endocrinologists and their expertise, and the nurses who care. Cons are a seeming lack of transparency and miscommunication in the clinic's billing practices. My experience in terms of scheduling and communication of test results was fine, if routine. The 2 individuals from RMA (nurses, I believe) who called me to communicate my results and to schedule the next visit sounded very indifferent and possibly even impatient. However, it was RMA's handling of billing that really sunk this experience. As mentioned earlier, RMA was an in-network provider for me. I received separate bills through my insurance - for each clinic visit, the lab tests, and for the genetic testing (Sema4). Everything was fine, except for the genetic testing, which my insurer had deemed "experimental" and so covered exactly 0%. Insurance subsequently billed me over $11K for this sole claim, which seemed outrageious. I communicated this to my finance coordinator and she said that it should be covered by insurance and requested a Letter of medical necessity to this end. I followed up with Aetna (insurance) and it would be > 2 weeks before they received this letter. Eventually, I got in contact with the genetic testing provider directly, via phone and email over the course of 3 months, and they explained that it isn't usually covered by insurance but that pursuant to an agreement they have with RMA, I should have received the contracted rate of $250, and not billed the full rate. I was finally able to resolve this issue in June/July 2021 by paying the provider directly.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Jovana Lekovich at RMA of New York.
Overall, testing and clinic visits came to < $750. Genetic testing = 250.

The nurse - Lucy - was fantastic [at RMA of New York]. So professional, organized, kind and responsive. I felt very taken care of. The care coordinator changed several times and none of them were particularly helpful. We had a lot of issues navigating insurance, pre-authorizations for meds, scheduling, etc. There was a separate finance team and the person I was assigned to was also not very helpful...
How was your experience with Tia Jackson-Bey at RMA of New York?
Dr. Jackson-Bey was very compassionate and responsive. I had tons of random questions in between appointments and she was always quick to respond to emails. She took the time to call me when I got disappointing results (i.e. negative pregnancy test from an IUI). She really cares about her patients and about her work. She is active in advocacy around infertility issues and getting more people access to infertility care.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Tia Jackson-Bey at RMA of New York?
Be as specific as possible in asking questions. Make sure to be clear on your communication style - i.e. if you're someone who likes blunt direct communication, be upfront about that.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Tia Jackson-Bey at RMA of New York?
Dr. Jackson-Bey was extremely sensitive, thoughtful and personable. I was very sensitive and anxious and she took the time to listen to me and help me think through challenging decisions. She has a great personality and really cares about her patients.
Describe the protocols Tia Jackson-Bey used in your cycles at RMA of New York and their degree of success.
Dr. Jackson-Bey initially recommended IVF from the outset because of my history of anovulation and DOR. I was very resistant to IVF and so we agreed to try medicated IUIs first. She was understanding of my feelings and accomodated my wish for this other path even though she did make it clear that she thought IVF was the best path forward. I ended up doing 6 IUIs because I responded well to them and there was no obvious reason that an IUI wouldn't have worked for me. Eventually I felt very ready to try IVF and so we made the switch. My first protocol was one designed for women with DOR or poor responders. I didn't get many eggs but the results of blasts was very strong. We decided to do another cycle to bank embryos because of our desire to have two kids. The second cycle we used a different protocol that I did not respond as well to and we also had a male-factor issue so we ended up freezing eggs only. After that we took a break as we were pretty shaken up from that experience and decided to switch doctors within the practice purely for a psychological "reset." We are soon preparing to transfer the euploid embryos that we got from that first IVF cycle.
Describe your experience with your nurse at RMA of New York. (Assigned nurse: Lucy)
The nurse - Lucy - was fantastic. So professional, organized, kind and responsive. I felt very taken care of. The care coordinator changed several times and none of them were particularly helpful. We had a lot of issues navigating insurance, pre-authorizations for meds, scheduling, etc. There was a separate finance team and the person I was assigned to was also not very helpful.
Describe your experience with RMA of New York.
We chose the clinic because of it's strong reputation, location, and because they take our insurance - GHI. The doctors and nurses have been amazing and the location in downtown Brooklyn is ideal. We've also had great experiences with all of our procedures - IUIs, egg retrievals - at the Madison Ave location. We did one IUI in Soho that was also great. On the other hand, for routine matters, the coordinating staff and finance staff are lacking. It might be also a factor of our insurance being shitty but we've had a terrible time coordinating pre-authorizations. My husband and I end up spending hours on the phone with the pharmacy, insurance for the first few days of each cycle. It was extremely stressful for both of us and probably impacted the results of our cycles.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Tia Jackson-Bey at RMA of New York.
The major procedures were covered 100% by insurance (unlimited IUIs and up to 3 IVF cycles) but we decided to pay for ICSI ($2,000) and PGT testing ($2,500).
What specific things went wrong at RMA of New York?
  • Failed to call in prescriptions to pharmacy
  • Provided conflicting information
Describe the specific things that went wrong at RMA of New York.
We had some issues with nurses giving us the wrong protocol over the phone. I had received the protocol via email from the nurse so I double-checked it and had to call back to confirm. This happened twice. We also had a lot of issues getting the medication delivered on time. We ended up doing a lot of three-way calling among the clinic, pharmacy and insurance. It became a second full-time job at certain points.

Dr. Jackson-Bey is both a wonderful doctor and person. She never made me and my husband feel rushed and took the time to answer questions and speak to us, even after hours. Her bedside manner is exactly what I want in a doctor, she keeps it real yet hopeful, is confident and kind...I always felt like I was her only patient even though I know that's not the case
All in around $30k but we used WIN Fertility to pay...I like and recommend RMA. I appreciate the flexibility in monitoring hours and locations and I liked that I got a chance to meet most of the doctors there since you never know who you'll get on procedure days. Most doctors have great bedside manner and a few seem too busy for questions but I don't blame them, monitoring mornings get busy.
How was your experience with Tia Jackson-Bey at RMA of New York?
I have nothing but good things to say. In fact my husband and I wish she could be our GP. She is really good at explaining what's happening, makes time for questions and is responsive. I never felt rushed, pressured, or like I wasn't receiving the best advice. I always felt like I was her only patient even though I know that's not the case. Truly a gifted physician and gem of a person.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Tia Jackson-Bey at RMA of New York?
Bring a notebook and be prepared to take lots of notes. There's no such thing as a bad question.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Tia Jackson-Bey at RMA of New York?

Describe the protocols Tia Jackson-Bey used in your cycles at RMA of New York and their degree of success.
Egg retrieval 1: antagonist protocol. I was a slow responder and stimmed for 14 days. I have slightly low amh and only had 5 eggs retrieved. one made it to blast and came back low mosaic. We changed my protocol for the second retrieval and did the microflare protocol with estrogen priming. I ended up with 6 eggs and 4 blasts. Three came back PGT normal. in between retrievals I had to have a laproscopic hysteroscopy to remove uterine adhesions and fix additional scarring/issues at the fundus. I had my FET two months after my second retrieval and three months after surgery. It was successful.

Will only transfer one embryo at a time. She outlined her reasons and we were on board.

I had two ICSI, PGT, freeze-all cycles [with Dr. Lekovich]. The first one only yielded 1 day-5 PGT normal embryo. She adjusted the medication for next Egg Retrieval and I ended up with 4 day-5 PGT normal embryos...listens and shares information. She seems really invested especially once IVF cycles are taking place...is straight forward but kind. She does not talk down to you and will explain everything going on. For all the major procedures (retrievals, transfers) she was the one doing it. Monitoring and IUI was done by rotating doctors.
Lots of locations [of RMA of New York], usually not a bad wait for monitoring. The clinic is big so you don’t get any hand holding. Do your own research or be prepared to assert yourself quite a bit to understand treatment protocols...The nurses always seem extremely busy. The phone calls are rushed. Generally they are helpful but I always felt like I needed to push to get an extra minute on the phone to ask questions...Monitoring varied a great deal. Sometimes it was empty sometimes it was literally standing room only.

What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Jovana Lekovich at RMA of New York?
Ask questions and advocate for yourself. This is a big clinic and there is no hand holding. Dr. Lekovich is smart and committed but it’s not a mom and pop shop so you need to be assertive at times.

Describe the protocols Jovana Lekovich used in your cycles at RMA of New York and their degree of success.
I did 2 medicated timed intercourse cycles and 2 medicated IUI’s mainly for insurance purposes. These cycles resulted in negative pregnancy tests. I had two ICSI, PGT, freeze-all cycles. The first one only yielded 1 day-5 PGT normal embryo. She adjusted the medication for next Egg Retrieval and I ended up with 4 day-5 PGT normal embryos. I was happy to have an adjustment and better results. My first embryo transfer ended in chemical pregnancy. The second one she added Lupron and I have an ongoing pregnancy from that cycle.

The nurses always seem extremely busy. The phone calls are rushed. Generally they are helpful but I always felt like I needed to push to get an extra minute on the phone to ask questions. Describe the specific things that went wrong at RMA of New York.
I was so anxious awaiting my PGT results. It had been over 2 weeks. I finally called the company that does the testing and apparently they had released the results over a week before. I called RMA and a nurse looked it up and said “oh yes it’s in your chart”. She gave me the results but it was such big important information I would have appreciated getting as soon as possible, not a week late.

From the beginning she diagnosed me with Vaginismus, she gave me a detailed plan to overcome it so that I could start to have fertility treatments. My ability to overcome this complicated illness is due to her help and guidance. She encouraged me to continue and now after one IVF Treatment with her, I am pregnant. She is very thorough and compassionate. She was easily accessible to me which was also very important. She also understood the religious laws that my religion has regarding fertility treatments, and she was sensitive to all of them. She had a great sense of humor, always listened to me, and she had a positive outlook on my treatment. She was very thorough during the treatment making sure that we did everything we needed to succeed. I followed her advice and now I am pregnant with my first child.

Dr. Lekovich made me feel very comfortable from the start of our treatment, especially the IVF Treatment. She helped me to overcome Vaginismus so that I would be able to do treatments. It was her recommendations that allowed me to overcome this terrible illness and put me in the position to start treatment and success. She also always listened to me and our partner. Her and her staff were very detail oriented and very knowledgeable and focused on my treatment. She showed me that she understood my situation and she gave me hope that I would get pregnant. She was very detailed in the IVF Treatment, making sure that she made the proper changes during treatment so that we would succeed. Her support, encouragement, her sense of humor, her knowledge, skills, and her big heart were all very evident. I was blessed to have her as my doctor.
Describe the protocols Jovana Lekovich used in your cycles at RMA of New York and their degree of success.
IVF has two parts, an egg retrieval part in which as many eggs as possible are retrieved, and a Transfer part in which the Embryo is transferred into a woman's uterus. During the egg retrieval part of my treatment, I went for monitoring every day, and based on my blood levels and ultrasounds, Dr. Lekovich would make the necessary changes to the doses in my treatment. During the transfer stage, I had to go to monitoring a few times a week. Dr. Lekovich made sure to do everything possible to get optimal results.
Describe your experience with your nurse at RMA of New York. (Assigned nurse: Estephany Jimenez)
Our IVF Coordinator was Estephany Jimenez. Estephany was very detail oriented and communicated with us almost every day about what we needed to do with the treatment. I was very happy with her.

Since RMA has many offices, we did our monitoring in Long Island, which was closer to us.
Describe Jovana Lekovich's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at RMA of New York.
Dr. Lekovich's approach with regard to the amount of embryos transferred is based on a model that RMA follows. Since my wife was young, she only put in one embryo for the transfer.

How was your experience with Jovana Lekovich at RMA of New York?
We would definitely see Dr. Lekovich again in the future if we decide to expand our family. She was very confident and competent. We had a few issues trusting the process due to multiple unexplained losses that happened at another clinic, but Dr. Lekovich was very positive that we could carry to term and she was right.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Jovana Lekovich at RMA of New York?
Go to the Brooklyn office if possible. We did some monitoring at Madison because of a move and Covid, but the Brooklyn office is much more intimate and it's better to see your doctor regularly. For our last cycle, we ended up driving over to Brooklyn and it was worth it to see Dr. Lekovich and discuss our concerns with her directly.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Jovana Lekovich at RMA of New York?
Dr. Lekovich is warm and always spoke to us like individuals. It was always so pleasant to see her and be reassured by her in person. That said, RMA as a whole feels much more numbers driven, especially if you go to monitoring at the Madison location. The Brooklyn office is much smaller and feels less like a factory.
Describe the protocols Jovana Lekovich used in your cycles at RMA of New York and their degree of success.
After our first cycle failed, we went with a "kitchen sink" approach, just in case I had some sub-clinical endometritis. While it was intense in terms of a medicated cycle, it ultimately worked for us.
How competent was Jovana Lekovich at LGBTQ+ care?
As a lesbian couple who were also experiencing unexplained infertility, we felt like we were in good hands with Dr. Lekovich. There were always other gay couples in the waiting room and we felt the doctor was very well versed in LGBT issues.
Describe your experience with your nurse at RMA of New York. (Assigned nurse: Our coordinator was awful, but I believe she is no longer there)
The coordinator we were assigned was awful. She ordered the prescriptions incorrectly and then did not assist us with fixing the issue via insurance. lt was a nightmare that almost cost us $12,000. Fortunately, we were able to get legal involved on our own and fix it. She also gave us incomplete information from the beginning and didn't respond to emails. We felt trapped because there was no one else to switch to and RMA makes it very difficult to escalate these problems or get someone on the phone. We essentially had to do a lot of work on our own to go around her. If you do not have the energy or resources to do this, I can imagine losing more time and money. That said, I believe she is no longer at the practice.
Describe your experience with RMA of New York.
RMA is a large clinic that serves a ton of clients in NYC. They don't have a patient portal and emails are very quickly deleted from their secure server. Overall, we liked Weill Cornell much better, but switched due to insurance. The admin staff at RMA is subpar, although I believe the doctors are highly skilled and trained. As long as you're aware of their administrative short comings, you can still have success there, but you may have to do a lot of leg work. It all really depends on who you are assigned to for patient coordination. We really liked Dr. Lekovich though and would work with her again.
Describe your experience with your monitoring appointments at RMA of New York.
Appointments and monitoring in Brooklyn we're great. Even when crowded it was an easy process. At Madison it felt much more like a cattle call. Very full office and long waits.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Jovana Lekovich at RMA of New York.
For our first cycle we were out of pocket for 50% and the second was fully covered.
Describe Jovana Lekovich's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at RMA of New York.
For our situation, Dr. Lekovich would not perform multiple embryo transfers though we did ask. However, having now gone through a pregnancy with a singleton, I'm glad for this policy.
How competent was RMA of New York at LGBTQ+ care?
We were treated well overall by this clinic. However, some of their paper forms are outdated and use heteronormative language that should be replaced by more inclusive language.
Describe your experience using 3rd party reproduction (donor eggs, donor sperm, or gestational carrier) at RMA of New York.
We weren't thrilled with the communication for shipping sperm from our cryobank to RMA. They will not confirm receipt and not respond to the email you need to send them to let them know vials are on the way. We had to jump through hoops to make sure our materials arrived and it did not help us with entrusting the clinic. (We had a totally different experience at Weill Cornell where everything was communicated so clearly and signed off on and we were expecting something similar.)
What specific things went wrong at RMA of New York?

Describe the specific things that went wrong at RMA of New York.
As mentioned in previous comments we were disappointed with the adminstrative aspects of RMA. Although much of that is due to a coordinator who is no longer there.

[Dr. Jovana Lekovich] checked in, followed up, and kept me informed throughout the process. During one cycle of retrieval I barely saw her and she made sure to reach out...Email is a good way to get ahold of her - the nurse can always connect you as well. She is forthright and will not sugar coat it - but does it warmly and with compassion...was warm, interested, and responsive.
While there was some lapses in communication [from the nurses at RMA of New York], overall they were responsive, fast to respond to inquiry - and if they needed to check with the doctor they got back to me as soon as possible. This is at the RMA of BK. The staff and nursing staff at the main RMA - were less helpful...didn't get the 5 day results at one point because they were waiting to see what happened on day 6 and 7 and no one informed me. That round did not go well and I had to call to find out at the end of day 7 because I had not heard anything.
How was your experience with Jovana Lekovich at RMA of New York?
The doctor's strength and weaknesses cannot be conflated with the weaknesses of the clinic. The Doctor checked in, followed up, and kept me informed throughout the process. During one cycle of retrieval I barely saw her and she made sure to reach out.

I used Gonal F, Menopure and Cetrocide towards the end of the retrieval. I was also on Lovonox 60mg to prevent blood clots due to Factor 5. I can try to look back and provide more information but it was approx 2 menopure vials at night, 300mg gonal f in the mornings and that increased towards the end.
Describe your experience with your nurse at RMA of New York. (Assigned nurse: Alissa)
While there was some lapses in communication, overall they were responsive, fast to respond to inquiry - and if they needed to check with the doctor they got back to me as soon as possible. This is at the RMA of BK. The staff and nursing staff at the main RMA - were less helpful.
Describe your experience with RMA of New York.
The Brooklyn office is warm, faster, and generally smaller - making it a more ideal location. The main office on Madision Ave of RMA is a giant cog machine that routes people through as numbers not faces and it is a factory.
Describe your experience with your monitoring appointments at RMA of New York.
It was morningtime before work. I was lucky enough to live walkable to the location. The phlebotomist at this location was the BEST - pain free, didn't leave marks, always quick. It took longer for the ultrasounds depending on what time you arrived, but never TOO long. The weekend hours were at the Madision Avenue location were a cluster and cattle call. Jam packed, call out your name large system. It was disappointing there were no hours at the BK location.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Jovana Lekovich at RMA of New York.
This is tricky, insurance initially denied. So the costs of that were 15,000 for the first round of retrieval. 6,000 for PGD/PGS. But then that got discounted because I did not do transfer, so the second round cost less. With insurance finally being fought and won. The PGD was not covered, but the co-insurance was only 1,500 per retrieval round. So for three rounds 4,500.

Describe the specific things that went wrong at RMA of New York.
Just didn't get the 5 day results at one point because they were waiting to see what happened on day 6 and 7 and no one informed me. That round did not go well and I had to call to find out at the end of day 7 because I had not heard anything.

Dr. Lekovich was able to answer questions that I had in a kind and professional way . I love that she seems to know her patients by name even when she’s not in the examining room . My only gripe would be that she doesn’t answer emails when it’s sent . I ended up asking my question in person but it works have been nice to get a reply via email .... The antagonist protocal was used for my treatment . I used Gonal F, Menopur , Cetrotide along with trigger shots Lupton and Oviidrel. The idea was to increase the amount of eggs for a successful cycle . It worked ! Just hoping that a healthy embryo will be the result .
RMA is run efficiently . There are several locations in Manhattan , Brooklyn and Westchester so it’s convenient for people in various locations in the city . However the monitoring hours should be a bit more flexible . The strict monitoring hours makes it difficult to rearrange your schedule depending on the type of job you have .... Warm , compassionate and caring are some words that come to mind when thinking of the nursing staff . I was told at the last minute that I needed another medication exhausted od my bloodwork and I was panicking because I didn’t k ow how I’d get it in such a short space of time . Unfortunately , I don’t recall her name but she ended up giving me the medication and tried to calm me down . I was so appreciative of the kind gesture that was shown to me .

She [Dr. Rashmi Kudesia] was warm, friendly and compassionate . She answers questions when asked . However when I asked questions after an ultrasound , at times I felt like she was in a rush to leave the room the minute ultra sounds were completed . I felt as if I had a question it would be almost impossible to get them answered . I know she had other patients but it made the care given by her very rushed .
When you enter RMA , the clinic seems to be run like a well oiled machine . Everyone is seen efficiently and that’s wonderful when you are in a rush to go to work at then end of your appointment. However with that being said , it feels like a factory with a lack of compassion from the doctors responsible for your care . Return callls from the nurses take place within a few hours or by the end of the day . There are so many doctors on staff so getting in touch with your doctor may be difficult . My wish would be for a direct line to your doctor’s officers prevent going through the message answering protocol .

Dr. Kudesia was friendly and answered questions related to my procedure . However , our sessions did feel rushed.
Describe the protocols Rashmi Kudesia used in your cycles at RMA of New York and their degree of success.
I completed three rounds of IUI because my insurance didn’t allow for IVF until I had three rounds of the IUI. No pregnancy resulted from the IUI. Dr. Kudesia then started the IVF cycle but unfortunately had to move towards the end of my treatment.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at RMA of New York.
When I had to meet with the nursing staff to discuss medication or had additional questions related to treatment the ladies were very compassionate and patient . They empathized with my situation and made attempts to keep me calm .

Monitoring occurred very early in the morning . There was no flexibility which made it stressful and difficult to arrange times with work and getting to the appointment on time . I would prefer if they had afternoon hours to accommodate people with a different time schedule .
Describe the costs associated with your care under Rashmi Kudesia at RMA of New York.
Thankfully my IUI was covered with my insurance . my insurance paid for some of the cost associated with the IVF. I was responsible for paying my co insurance , medication , anesthesia , ICSI and PGS testing .The medical coordinator was good at informing me when payment was due. After insurance , the cost for the above was around $9,000.

Describe the specific things that went wrong at RMA of New York.
When I began the IUI cycle ,I was told that my insurance only allowed 3 tries of the IUI before moving to IVF. My husband was told to submit sperm to the lab . The sperm was used but the cycle did not make me pregnant . So we tried again the following month. At the completion of the cycle I was sent to the main office for IUI . Sadly it could not be completed because there was no sperm in the lab from my partner . I was furious . No one informed my partner that he either had to submit multiple sperm samples or tell me in advance that my husband had to come with me the day of he procedure . I had to juggle my work schedule to make that appointment and it was a waste of time . The doctor and staff apologized for the error but it left a bad taste in my mouth .

When I started seeing her [Dr. Kudesia] she was nothing but human, and caring and understood my fears and anxieties after such a huge loss....The only issue I really had is after 2 failed IUI's she never enforced my husband to do a sperm analyisis... I loved her bedside manner and how personal and sweet she was, but I felt like she would just increase my dosage of Clomid each month I didnt get pregnant
Strengths [of RMA] are efficiency...I never waited more than 10-15 minutes in the waiting room...they were very friendly. The nurses called back very quickly and were good about getting any questions I had answered...The weaknesses were that it has a feeling of being a business and that they almost hope you have to jump to IVF...We once had the nurse call and she thought we were doing an IVF cycle, when clearly I had discussed with finance several times
How was your experience with Rashmi Kudesia at RMA of New York?
The only issue I really had is after 2 failed IUI's she never enforced my husband to do a sperm analyisis. Considering I had been pregnant 3 times naturally before coming to the clinic, I think they just assumed his sperm was healthy. It wasn't until I personally had to enforce it did my husband get his sperm analysis and now here we are 8 months later still not pregnant, but found out that my husband has 0% motility. My 40th birthday is this year, and we will have to make a big decision about IVF. I loved her bedside manner and how personal and sweet she was, but I felt like she would just increase my dosage of Clomid each month I didnt get pregnant and was chalking it up to unexplained infertility, and shouldn't have even allowed us to do IUI without him having a sperm analysis.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Rashmi Kudesia at RMA of New York?
To make sure you ask every question you have, as she doesn't really give answers unless you come with questions.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Rashmi Kudesia at RMA of New York?
I felt like a human because I could really tell she cared. I had a full term still birth in 2016, I was 39 weeks pregnant and I lost my son to an umbilical cord accident. When I started seeing her she was nothing but human, and caring and understood my fears and anxieties after such a huge loss.
Describe the protocols Rashmi Kudesia used in your cycles at RMA of New York and their degree of success.
First we tested my AMH and it was very good, and since I had been pregnant 3 times before we just did a non-medicated natural cycle that she monitored. I produced follicles on my own, ovulated according to the blood work, etc. Then when that didn't work she suggested we go right to IUI unmedicated and I did one unmedicated and it didn't work. Then we did one IUI cycle where I took 50mg of clomid, and then they gave me the trigger shot of ovidrel and that IUI also failed. Then I didn't have any more money for IUI's and my insurance covers NOTHING for fertility treatments. So then she decided to increase my dose of clomid to 100mg and then I gave myself the trigger at home, negative again. Then she increased me to 150mg clomid and I did the trigger shot again at home, negative. That following month she discovered a polyp on my uterus and I had read that was a side effect of clomid. On Feb, 14th 2017 I had the polyp surgically removed. Before we started trying again and while I was healing I had my husband go get his sperm analysis. Thats when we discovered his motility was 0%.
Describe your experience with RMA of New York.
Strengths are efficiency. I was VERY surprised for NYC and how busy they were that I never waited more than 10-15 minutes in the waiting room, a lot better than my OB's office ! Also they were very friendly. The nurses called back very quickly and were good about getting any questions I had answered. I also liked that I had a way to communicate with Dr. Kudesia over email. I found that very personal. The weaknesses were that it has a feeling of being a business and that they almost hope you have to jump to IVF. In our case we do have to jump to IVF because of my age and my husbands sperm motility, and I just wished from day one they would have made him get tested.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Rashmi Kudesia at RMA of New York.
$75 per blood test $250 for monitoring, $1250 for IUI, $150 for sperm analysis, $125 for phone calls, $375 for in person meet ups. All in all I spent 10K in 2017.

Describe the specific things that went wrong at RMA of New York.
It was just more oversights, and assumptions. We once had the nurse call and she thought we were doing an IVF cycle, when clearly I had discussed with finance several times it just wasn't possible as I have zero insurance coverage for this. The plan my job provides has no coverage what so ever.

We started with medicated cycles [with Dr. Rashmi Kudesia] and IUI given there were no other signals that we had any issues. After that failed 6 times, we moved to IVF. I went through 3 IVF cycles with Dr. Kudesia, all with different protocols. The first led to 0 day 5 embyros, the second had 1 (but it was abnormal following PGS testing) and the 3rd we did a day 5 fresh transfer as a last ditch effort to see if that would work.
I feel that we didn't truly receive any personalized treatment. There is a standard set of tools that RMA uses without going deep on what the underlying issue might be. After 2 failed IVF cycles based on getting no PGC testing embryos, a panel of the RMA doctors didn't have any other suggestions beyond a different IVF protocol. They are not open to day 3 transfers. Since transferring to a different practice, we've done secondary tests for genetics, a biopsy identifying an infection, sperm fragmentation test and uncovered issues with each of these. These tests just were not available at RMA. We now think of RMA as a place to go to have certain procedures administered to you, but I don't think about it as a place where your doctor can truly "treat" you by offering individualized care and service.
How was your experience with Rashmi Kudesia at RMA of New York?
Dr. Kudesia was available to answer questions in person when we made an appointment. She was clear, balanced and walked us through the available data on medicated cycles with IUI and IVF. We are a couple with a lot of questions and she took her time to answer everything. It never felt like she was trying to push us in a specific direction and she didn't get defensive when we questioned certain approaches based on our failed outcomes. She took time to call us over the weekend after we found out about all our embryos failing to reach day 5. It was devastating news, but we appreciated her call. She is upbeat, cheerful and encouraged me to stay positive while recognizing that was hard to do.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Rashmi Kudesia at RMA of New York?
Schedule specific appointments if you want to have time to ask questions.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Rashmi Kudesia at RMA of New York?
Dr. Kudesia was very understanding of our situation. We were grieving from the loss of our daughter who died shortly after she was born and found ourselves faced with infertility. Dr. Kudesia was incredibly sympathetic and available to meet with us on a regular basis to patiently answer all of our questions about medicated cycles, IUI and IVF.

With our daughter who passed away, I got pregnant quickly so Dr. Kudesia expected that we would get pregnant again. I saw numerous nurses over the course of my year at RMA. The quality of the staff differed, but they were available to answer questions when I called RMA.

Dr. Kudesia has a warm and friendly personality so it was easy to connect to her....Dr. Kudesia is just nice and explains things in a way like you are talking to a friend. I had a good feeling about her since out 1st consultation in June 2016... Dr. Kudesia checked my egg count which is normal for my age and hand me let them know when I came started my period so they can start me on clomid and do blood work on the given days of my cycle. Since I just started they sent me to get an HSG exam.
[RMA] Strengths: friendly and calm staff Weakness: It took a while for the RMA Urologist's Nurse to call me back with my husbands test results of why we were not conceiving. It could have been because my husband was their contact and not me, but we sorted that out and I got in touch with the urology team... Everyone I dealt with at RMA, in both the Brooklyn and Manhattan Office had a warm and friendly demeanor. I always felt comfortable asking questions and was grateful they were able to answer my questions easily and returned my calls usually within a couple hours.

Dr. Kudesia is just nice and explains things in a way like you are talking to a friend. I had a good feeling about her since out 1st consultation in June 2016. I only saw her a few times, since I have not started IVF yet, but she is my main doctor.

Describe the protocols Rashmi Kudesia used in your cycles at RMA of New York and their degree of success.
we started with RMA about a year and a half after trying unsuccessfully to conceive. Dr. Kudesia checked my egg count which is normal for my age and hand me let them know when I came started my period so they can start me on clomid and do blood work on the given days of my cycle. Since I just started they sent me to get an HSG exam. On day 12 I would come in and they would check to make sure I had at least 1 mature egg follicle and they would give me Ovadril. I did the HSG once and it came back normal as well as all the blood work they did. I did the clomid and Ovadril for 3 cycles, July-September 2016. I decided to stop until my husband was tested. He was tested in November and it turns out the issue is on his end.

Describe the costs associated with your care under Rashmi Kudesia at RMA of New York.
My co-pay was normally $40. However the sperm extraction done by Dr. Natan Bar Chama was $6,500. IVF I have not started yet but it will probably be in the $20, 000 range including PGD and medications.

My egg retrieval experience with RMA was absolutely one of the worst medical experiences of my life. I asked to meet the doctor before the procedure and was told I couldn't unless it was an emergency of some sort. When I was ushered into the operating room, loud rock and roll was playing and no one greeted me or made me feel like I was a human being. I truly felt like a piece of meat on an assembly line. I got to meet exactly zero people involved with my care -- did not get to meet the anesthesiologist or the embryologist or the primary doctor. When I was put on the table in the operating room and started weeping because I felt vulnerable and exposed, no one acknowledge

Everything in between was a new person or a nurse or a rotating doctor. I never felt like there was continuity of care or any attention to detail with my case. The main RMA office in midtown Manhattan is horrible. The waiting room is HUGE and it really feels like a cattle call of patients. When I was put on the table in the operating room and started weeping because I felt vulnerable and exposed, no one acknowledged me or how I was doing. In short, no one spoke to me. I was truly just a piece of meat. Horrific.
Describe the protocols Joshua Klein used in your cycles at RMA of New York and their degree of success.
Can't remember exact protocols. But it was pretty standard IVF stuff.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at RMA of New York.
They were different every time. The phlebotomists were the WORST and I had bruises all the time. The nursing staff did not seem to want to get involved in continuity of care. I asked if I could see the same person and was told that it was "whoever is on call." They all seemed young and disengaged.
Describe your experience with RMA of New York.
The second (and successful) clinic I went to was Madison Women's Health on the UES. They are AMAZING. They are exactly what anyone would want -- individualized attention, specific nurses helping & calling everyday, great attention to detail, great bedside manner. I felt so confident and happy with this clinic.
Describe your experience with your monitoring appointments at RMA of New York.
Ugh. Different person every time. Phlebotomists were truly awful.

Dr Lekovich is warm and smart. She understood my history of trauma and vaginismus and made me feel oriented. To every procedure and also the whole process. I’m so glad she was my doctor. I saw another doctor elsewhere prior and they didn’t explain the science of eggs and quantity and quality for someone at my age. I felt much more oriented with Jovana and was glad to work with her instead.
this [RMA of New York] clinic was great. i went to the manhattan location once and it was so busy and i wouldn’t recommend it. it felt like a factory. this location all three doctors i met i liked, the nurses were kind. and it’s just a smaller space so you don’t feel like you’re just a number...Dr Lekovich spent a lot of time talking to me before my cycle. And at every appointment she was considerate of my unique needs. She also always replied to my emails and seemed genuinely invested in me.

What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Jovana Lekovich at RMA of New York?
Bring questions because she will have answers. And ask for advice because she had it to give. I even admitted i botched one of my shots and she found one at the clinic to replace it for me. Also she didn’t make me feel bad for messing up my injection

Describe your experience with your nurse at RMA of New York. (Assigned nurse: Yasmin)
My nurse was so nice taking my blood work every time. Sometimes it’s hard to get a sample and she was so amazing even though it was crowded. And we chatted and she distracted me ;)

[Dr. Lekovich] was incredibly compassionate when I had a miscarriage (from a natural pregnancy) and helped me get a plan of action going right away with ivf so I could get pregnant as quickly as possible. She even went the extra mile to email late on Friday night to let me know that all three of my embryos came back chromosomally normal, news I had anxiously been awaiting. I felt she always genuinely cared how I was doing as her patient.
Finance team [of RMA of NY] was not great. Wish I had been guided a bit more through my payment options since insurance did not cover treatment. Nurses and staff were all very friendly. Loved the nurses who drew my blood at clinic- so sweet!..they are incredibly experienced and have the appointments/blood drawing etc down to a science...On the other hand, with that many patients often lined up in the morning to give blood, It felt like we were cattle.

During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Jovana Lekovich at RMA of New York?
RMA is massive with so many patients which has its pros and cons. On the one hand, they are incredibly experienced and have the appointments/blood drawing etc down to a science. Dr. Lekovich is so knowledgeable and I feel like she has seen it all and treats each patient like she already knows them. On the other hand, with that many patients often lined up in the morning to give blood, It felt like we were cattle.
Describe the protocols Jovana Lekovich used in your cycles at RMA of New York and their degree of success.
IVF with genetic testing and frozen transfer. I had had 3 miscarriages from spontaneous pregnancies as a result of chromosomal abnormalities so testing the embryos before transfer was a must.

Describe Jovana Lekovich's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at RMA of New York.
Already higher success rate with genetically tested embryo transfer and less risk with single verse multiple pregnancy/birth.
