Attention to Detail

Attention to detail is on a 1 - 10 scale, and is scored based on the rate, and severity, of errors committed by the clinic according to the patients.

For example, a severe error might be failing to inform a patient of critical information, while a small error might be failing to call a patient with results.

CDC Success Rates

This is the most recent data from the CDC. The CDC cautions that it should not be used to compare doctors and clinics. This data represents the outcomes of IVF cycles when using a person's own eggs.

For more information please see our FAQs.

Where you see a “?” on the chart, a clinic has done fewer than 20 cycles in this category and age range, so the CDC says showing percentages from this small data set would be misleading and unreliable.

Dr. Grunfeld was very detailed oriented, had an obvious expertise in this area and explained on a macro level what was going on and what to expect (the nurses handled the day to day). I understood my diagnosis and what the treatment would be...Don't expect to get to talk to him whenever you want...Since I have PCOS and ovulate late (my cycles around about 3 months long), we started on Clomid and a trigger shot and tried that for a number of cycles. When it didn't work he met with me and we talked about other options, and decided that before anything more invasive we should try another medication - i went on Letrazole and after 2 cycles got a positive pregnancy test.

He [Dr. Stein] seemed very competent but I rarely spoke to him. His coordinators told me he assessed me the entire time but it was hard to tell. I had trouble stimulating follicles and felt in the dark. It's a challenging process and I had wished for more one on one attention...I feel like he saw my chart and assessed fairly...I used ivf medication- gonal and menapur. Then rotated in certitude....Very kind reception and great facility. Well run and organized.

Results oriented, but only for "physical" issues....Allowed children to go to appointments (except IVF) which is helpful when dealing with secondary infertility.

Dr. Flisser took the time to chat with us and answer our questions each week...clearly diagnosed my likely PCOS situation which provided clarity around what was getting in the way...creative solutioning...suggested that we work with a colleague where we were traveling to — in LA
RMA is definitely a fast-moving clinic so our visits were short and sweet...well-oiled cattle call line with a ton of flexibility but also potentially long wait times...never seen at the time of my appointment...Nursing staff is your rock throughout the process
How was your experience with Eric Flisser at RMA of New York?
Dr. Flisser is a pro. He knows the research inside and out, has a ton of experience, and has a refreshing no-BS data-driven approach. My husband and I felt like we could trust him 100% and were covered with the clear plan that he custom created for us and our family planning needs. While other doctors waffled, Dr. Flisser very clearly diagnosed my likely PCOS situation which provided clarity around what was getting in the way of our fertility journey and what would be the best solution — IVF. When we had to do a retrieval during the Thanksgiving break, Dr. Flisser suggested that we work with a colleague where we were traveling to — in LA. With his creative solutioning, we were able to keep moving quickly on our fertility journey without sacrificing time with our family over the holidays. This was truly above and beyond in a way I haven’t experienced with other physicians. RMA does take on a TON of patients so time with doctors in general is limited. Be prepared with questions before each appointment, build a great relationship with the nurses and other staff who are there to support you and are a bit more available, and trust the experts here. With Dr. Flisser’s team you’ll be in great hands! After 2-3+ years of infertility including one miscarriage, Dr. Flisser helped us get pregnant — a miracle that was starting to feel like an impossibility after our long, torturous journey. We were happily discharged and “graduated” from his practice just a few months ago and are currently 26 weeks pregnant. Sending good luck to all those on similar journeys.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Eric Flisser at RMA of New York?
Trust him and ask him any questions you have! He will answer them. Also rely on the nurses -- they're your go-to for inbetween questions.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Eric Flisser at RMA of New York?
Dr. Flisser took the time to chat with us and answer our questions each week, but RMA is definitely a fast-moving clinic so our visits were short and sweet. Our first session was the longest and most helpful, so definitely get as many questions in at that point as possible.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at RMA of New York.
Nursing staff is your rock throughout the process. They were the ones I called with one-off questions and they always got back to me. They are essential to the process!
Describe your experience with RMA of New York.
RMA is a bit of a factory but with the right doctor they will get the job done. They also take more insurances than many other fertility clinics. I've experienced not super talented doctors and stronger ones. I'd recommend working with the male doctors if the female ones are not available, and the partners are particularly excellent.
Describe your experience with your monitoring appointments at RMA of New York.
A decently well-oiled cattle call line with a ton of flexibility but also potentially long wait times. I was never seen at the time of my appointment.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Eric Flisser at RMA of New York.
2 cycles totaled about $35K, one we did cross-country
What specific things went wrong at RMA of New York?
  • Provided conflicting information
  • Failed to convey critical information
  • Lost or damaged samples
Describe the specific things that went wrong at RMA of New York.
There were 2 instances that occurred that RMA did fix and reimburse us for: 1 - Tossed the sperm sample the day my husband had to fly out for a trip in time for my first retrieval. My husband had to scramble to go back and provide another sample. We got lucky that he was able to make it work with his schedule before flying out. 2 - I've had incorrect dosages sent to me a few times through my cycle. Always triple check medication doses to make sure they make sense or match what the nurses share on the calls.

[Dr. Erkan Buyuk] was very matter of fact about everything...he shared all the information as through it was a memorized speech...wasn't warm or particularly inviting but he was professional and confident...Don't expect much bedside manner but you'll get great care
[At RMA of New York], There was also an issue with my data not being properly input into the system and if I hadn't advocated for myself, things could have gone differently....one of my medications wasn't shipped and I didn't realize...waiting room area could be a little warmer and welcoming
How was your experience with Erkan Buyuk at RMA of New York?
During the consultation, he shared all the information as through it was a memorized speech. But he did want to make sure I understood the risks. He wasn't warm or particularly inviting but he was professional and confident.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Erkan Buyuk at RMA of New York?
Don't expect much bedside manner but you'll get great care
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Erkan Buyuk at RMA of New York?
The doctor was very matter of fact about everything. I understand the office sees so many patients and everything is routine for the staff. But some of the other doctors I saw were more lively and asked more questions/provided more information. However I had no concerns about my safety or his qualifications and I felt like I could trust him. There was also an issue with my data not being properly input into the system and if I hadn't advocated for myself, things could have gone differently. Also one of my medications wasn't shipped and I didn't realize. But overall, I'd still highly recommend rma.
Describe the protocols Erkan Buyuk used in your cycles at RMA of New York and their degree of success.
If just got updates with the amount of meds to take. Though the doctors always let me see the screen for the sonogram so I could see the measurements they were taking. Though I didn't know the size they were aiming for.
Describe your experience with your nurse at RMA of New York. (Assigned nurse: Allie)
Overall, the nurses were great. They shared a lot of information and were always helpful and supportive when I had questions. I do feel like I could have been better prepared for the immediate before and after of the procedure. But I did have a problem with not being sent one medication. And my data was input incorrectly on the day I was supposed to take my trigger. They initially told me not trigger on that day but I explained all the data I had from my doctors and appointments. When they eventually went back to look at my chart, they found the mistake and confirmed I should trigger that night.
Describe your experience with RMA of New York.
The waiting room area could be a little warmer and welcoming. Maybe some light music in the background since sometimes the wait was long. But overall, it seemed like a very well oiled machine. They have so many patients that a lot of it is routine for them. The regular email updates about appointments and meds were very helpful.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Erkan Buyuk at RMA of New York.
$3450 for the procedure and preservation. $950 for out of network anesthesiologist. $40 for all visits before starting the process. $125 for meds.

Describe the specific things that went wrong at RMA of New York.
One trigger medication wasn't called in. And a critical data point needed for indicating that I needed to trigger that day was not input into the system correctly. I called out what I thought was a mistake in their directions to keep taking the regular meds and later they called to confirm I was right and I needed to in fact trigger that night and not take more of the previous meds.

[Dr. Mukherjee is] very quick and direct. He’s not emotional and doesn’t do any hand holding. He doesn’t give any extra information. But he is clearly very knowledgeable and experienced and he does answer all of my millions of questions patiently...I did single transfer every time, which is what I wanted. There was no reason to think multiple was necessary.
Strengths [of RMA of NY] is that it’s big, doctors are very experienced, the whole practice is very experienced and well oiled. If you want a smaller more attentive approach, maybe this is not the place for you but this place feels like the gold standard of fertility care...transfer is 4k each time. IUI I think was 1k each time. Egg retrieval much more, maybe around 11k

What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Tanmoy Mukherjee at RMA of New York?
His staff is amazing and he is quick to answer any questions. Very direct. I feel comfortable given his level of expertise that has become apparent throughout my years in his care, but don’t expect a particularly warm bedside manner.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Tanmoy Mukherjee at RMA of New York?
He is a very straight forward, no nonsense doctor. I like that about him. But he is not necessarily warm and doesn’t hold your hand.
Describe the protocols Tanmoy Mukherjee used in your cycles at RMA of New York and their degree of success.
My IUI was unmedicated, I had no diagnosed fertility issues. For my co-IVF, where I transferred my wife’s embryo, I was given progesterone, estrogen, medrol, azithromiacin, and baby aspirin.

I felt Dr. Lederman acknowledged me and my situation. He asked questions of me and what I wanted and talked through how to create the family I want...He talked me through the treatment, explained why we'd focus on ivf, gave me data and facts and how we'd focus on getting there. He gave me a first sonogram and encouraging results.
I meet with the [RMA of New York] care coordinator after my consult and honestly felt a little confused about the next steps and timeline...The price I was quoted detailed ivf+transfer, separate costs for anesthesia and medications. On the day of my consult I met with the financial coordinator who gave me a price list that was close to 60% more for the ivf+transfer cost.

For my last transfer which resulted in a successful pregnancy, Dr. Sekhon suggested we use a more toned down/natural protocol with less medication as it wasn't something we tried before. It ended up working for me...[she] is compassionate and has great bedside banners. I can tell that she truly cares about her patients. She is very evidence based and makes sure she listens to your concerns before prescribing a certain protocol.
In my case, RMA did not allow multiple embryo transfers...The downtown location is smaller than the one in midtown which I liked. I didn't have to wait too long for my appointments as it wasn't too crowded. It seems to be very well run. My only suggestion is to have the reception area a little more private so anything that is discussed with a patient remains a little more private and not easily overheard by those waiting in the waiting area.

Dr. Klein is very thorough and honest. He is extremely accessible and always answers emails promptly and is great at addressing our numerous concerns and questions...We did a frozen egg retrieval with ICSI and genetic screening. We transferred a single embryo during our first 2 transfers...There are a lot of patients at the practice.
The [RMA of New York] clinic is very responsive. They seem to run on time and you are seen quickly during morning monitoring hours. It's nice that they have so many clinics, that way if you ever need to see someone over the weekend there is always a clinic open...We received a 25% discount because we are a military family and fertility treatments are not covered. Our cost for egg retrieval and our first transfer was around $12,000

He’s very thorough. During the consolation Dr. Sandler goes over the whole reproductive process, your chances of conceiving and the full overview of what to expect. I was just hesitant going to a for profit place. But I’m on to my 3rd doctor and feel that I have to give RMA a fair chance too. The nurses seem to be there to support you along the way. I will say the nurses who draw blood aren’t as good as Columbia but I’m sure I can get over that. I felt that other places were too conservative and didn’t understand my rush even though I’m 36.
The waiting time [at RMA-NY- East Side] isn’t as bad as others - is Columbia. They have the process down well and know what you are in for when you arrive. The nurses who draw blood aren’t the best though. The office seems clean enough but it isn’t updated at all... The total cost will probably be around $20k. We did an IUI with them that is still going through insurance. They will go over the cost of the meds and retrieval for you before you start and set up a payment plan. They have to look into your insurance first anyway to get approval.

She [Dr. Sekhon] always greeted my partner and I, asked us how we were, made a point to say she was happy to see us. I felt like she was rooting for us. ... The treatment was not successful but I do feel like she gave me all the facts. She’s a realist, never emotional. I felt I could trust her and will be continuing on the next phase of my treatment with her.
Clinic [RMA of New York] was fine. The way they handle billing was slightly pushy. Generally good customer service. some of the staff who take blood are amateurs and every time I’d leave with bruises all over my arm. ... I had to call and tell them to send my prescription to the pharmacy. ... By my 3rd iui I felt the team was disorganized. I had to remind them once to put in my prescription. No sensitivity on the phone.

Dr. Thornton was wonderful to work with throughout the challenging IVF process. I appreciated the time she took to check in with me and explain the protocols, etc...Dr. Thornton adjusted my protocol and then adjusted again when by body wouldn't cooperate; she explained everything along the way and she cared about me as a person. I highly recommend working with Dr. Thornton.
RMA is large but I think that helps to ensure that they have quality doctors and lab. The downtown Soho office was more relaxed. How was your experience with Kimberley Thornton at RMA of New York?
I was 39.5 at the time of retrieval after a failed IVF with another doctor and many failed IUIs. Dr. Thornton adjusted my protocol and then adjusted again when by body wouldn't cooperate; she explained everything along the way and she cared about me as a person. I highly recommend working with Dr. Thornton.

[Dr. Michael Lederman is] Smart, but very busy and not sure he wants to dive into my specific issues. Felt like I got the same treatment as everyone else. Still no answers on my infertility and when my husband and I had blood work and testing done, it was the nurse who called with the results and often she couldn’t explain the meaning...Treatment didn’t feel specific to my situation.

When we wanted to keep trying naturally before we decided to use IVF, Dr. Stein was patient with us and gave my wife and me the space to try. He didn't rush us to IVF, and in the end, it was our decision. He was clear about expectations and always approached us each step of the way with information and statistics. We believe information is power, so the more we knew the better...He's not going to hold your hand the entire way, but he'll tell it to you straight and that helped ease our anxiety about the process.
It was expensive [at RMA of New York], I think the entire process ran around $13 to $15k. That was after deductibles were met. But we also had insurance that covered most of the process...There as just SO many patients so you can feel sometimes a little lost in the shuffle, even with a coordinator. It is important to always come with a list of questions and really confirm timelines. From retrieval to implantation was longer than we thought and that was a bit of an emotional rollercoaster.

Dr. Sekhon is experienced and made me feel confident being in her care...appreciated her directness, honesty, and compassion...explained the overall retrieval-through-FET process...always outlined pros and cons for each step...Gonal, Menopur and Cetrotide; I believe Lupron was the trigger.

How was your experience with Lucky Sekhon at RMA of New York?
Dr. Sekhon is experienced and made me feel confident being in her care. I appreciated her directness, honesty, and compassion. She explained the overall retrieval-through-FET process clearly and always outlined pros and cons for each step. There were setbacks along the way but she offered ideas as to how we could address those. If we wanted her guidance about next steps, she would offer it, but she left us the space to decide on our own. I trusted her words and had the sense that she genuinely cared about us having a positive outcome.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Lucky Sekhon at RMA of New York?
It is a very large clinic so it's inevitable to feel a bit like a number, but while seeing Dr. Sekhon, I always felt a warmth of care.
Describe the protocols Lucky Sekhon used in your cycles at RMA of New York and their degree of success.
I do not remember the first egg retrieval protocol but I took Gonal, Menopur and Cetrotide; I believe Lupron was the trigger. This was an egg retrieval for fertility preservation (not to conceive in the short term). I retrieved and froze 13 eggs. Unfortunately when we thawed these and tried to make embryos, the embryo that was created was not genetically normal. The second and third egg retrieval followed a different protocol and were used to create embryos: I took MD Lupron (AM and PM) along with Gonal (AM) and Menopur (PM). I believe this protocol was because I was 5 years older with a lower AMH. I got 6 eggs, 5 of which fertilized, yielding 1 embryo which was genetically normal. I then got 15 eggs, 12 of which were mature, 11 of which fertilized, yielding 1 embryo which was also genetically normal.
Describe your experience with your nurse at RMA of New York. (Assigned nurse: Jayden Cappella (care coordinator); Isabel and Niki (nurses))
The nurses were all very knowledgeable and supportive. My care coordinator was also helpful in being sure I had all of the information I needed.

Describe the specific things that went wrong at RMA of New York.
After our initial consultation, no one called with my AMH results. While it wasn't critical or time-sensitive information, I did want to mention that. Once I did begin treatment, I never didn't get a call that I was expecting.

Dr. Nazem is great at explaining processes, procedures, and next steps. Our IVF cycle was very straightforward with no complications, but I have no doubt that if we did encounter setbacks Dr. Nazem would have done a great job with managing and adjusting expectations and course of treatment...very personable and takes time to get to know her patients, and their partners, and build the rapport necessary for this stressful treatment.
[RMA of New York] Front desk staff could use a lesson in business etiquette, proper attire, and professionalism. Interactions with them got the job done, sure, but left some to be desired. They tend to be curt and cold and friendly faces would be nice during this stressful time...Their patient portal and emailed instructions often differed leading to confusion. It took being very vigilant and reporting these discrepancies to leadership to ensure that we were receiving correct updates and protocol changes.

We had one round of stims, one egg retrieval inclusive of embryo creation and PGT testing, and one (successful) transfer. We had male factor infertility so my IVF course of treatment was pretty standard and unremarkable.
Describe your experience with your nurse at RMA of New York. (Assigned nurse: Julia Ullman)
Nursing staff seemed to be a revolving door tbh. Didn't seem to have one assigned nurse per patient or that any nurse had a dedicated patient panel. Connecting with care coordination and financial coordination was also a chore.

Dr. Friedenthal is warm, knowledgeable, supportive, and cautious. She was honest and direct with us when the results were unfavorable, which we appreciated. She was also very patient and answered all of our questions. She moved office locations in the middle of my treatment and we could have chosen to switch to a doctor more conveniently located, but we decided to stay with her and travel a longer distance to see her.
...when it came to RMA's logistical procedures handled by other RMA staff- scheduling appointments, ordering medications, and receiving email protocols, I felt very much like a number. RMA staff made plenty of mistakes throughout the process, and I felt like no one was keeping an overall eye on my care, I had to do it myself...RMA is a busy clinic, and in my experience the team didn't spend enough time proactively educating me. It all moved very fast.

Ask alot of questions and don't hesitate to be proactive. RMA is a busy clinic, and in my experience the team didn't spend enough time proactively educating me. It all moved very fast.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Jenna Friedenthal at RMA of New York?
Dr. Friedenthal has a very warm bedside manner and expressed genuine care about my welfare. She was excellent at explaining the process and is highly skilled. However when it came to RMA's logistical procedures handled by other RMA staff- scheduling appointments, ordering medications, and receiving email protocols, I felt very much like a number. RMA staff made plenty of mistakes throughout the process, and I felt like no one was keeping an overall eye on my care, I had to do it myself.
Describe the protocols Jenna Friedenthal used in your cycles at RMA of New York and their degree of success.
I did three egg retrieval cycles. In the first cycle, the medication Menopur was out of stock nationwide, so the doctor prescribed me a substitute, Novarel (low dose HCG). In the second cycle Menopur was available, so I was prescribed that instead. It was the most unpleasant injection out of them all, it really stings when it goes in. I spoke with a different doctor about it during a routine monitoring appointment, and she shared her opinion that Novarel was just as effective but many doctors are uncomfortable prescribing it because they're more familiar with Menopur. I wound up having much worse results for my second cycle, so for the third I talked to Dr. Friendenthal about going back to Novarel. She was candid that she preferred Menopur but was open to what I wanted to do. I chose to go back to Novarel and my third retrieval results were much better - and the injections were less unpleasant. One other note: when I started the first cycle, I was initially asked to take injections of Gonal-F twice a day. I asked a nurse if there was a reason why and she said there wasn't a strong reason to break up the dose, I could easily take the Gonal-F all at once. That spared me one injection a day.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at RMA of New York.
The nurses were kind and informative. The only issue I encountered were mistakes in the email protocols they sent me, recapping medication instructions. They looked to be copy-paste errors, and after I had completed one cycle I knew enough to figure them out/ignore mistakes, but in the first cycle I had to call to request clarity on a couple of the emails. One had the incorrect dosage and another one had misleading language: it said to only take one medication (the trigger shot) but then later referred to taking two medications.
Describe your experience with RMA of New York.
The doctors and nurses are excellent and the care is top-notch. They have various experts available for consultations, including a social worker/therapist and genetic counselors. The egg retrieval surgeries were fast and painless, with easy recovery. RMA's Brooklyn office is a nice facility. Monitoring times varied during each cycle, probably based on the number of patients at the time. In my first cycle, almost all of my monitoring appointments took 45-60 minutes. Times were shorter during the second and third cycles. RMA's logistics could use improvement, especially around communication. They do not provide direct phone numbers for the doctors; you're instructed to call the main line and talk to a receptionist, who will then send a message to the doctor's team. This process failed me several times over the course of my treatment. The worst was when I called the clinic once a week for 5 weeks to tell them we were ready to proceed with the embryo transfer, but despite the receptionist telling me each time they were sending a message to the doctor's team, no one ever called us back until I finally sent an email to anyone I had previously emailed with at the clinic. They were very apologetic about it, but I still have no idea what happened. Email was also not a reliable way to communicate with the RMA team, sometimes I received bouncebacks and Dr. Friedenthal cautioned me that the clinic was having email issues (which is why I kept calling instead of emailing). Hopefully those issues have been resolved. My overall impression with RMA is that it's an effective clinic with talented medical staff, that was maybe struggling a bit with the amount of patients they were serving during my time with them. I'd recommend to any new patients that you ask alot of questions, pay close attention to the process and protocols, and don't hesitate to ask for what you want.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Jenna Friedenthal at RMA of New York.
We were fortunate to have insurance that covered IVF, so we only had to pay our full deductible and annual out-of-pocket max on our insurance policy.

Describe the specific things that went wrong at RMA of New York.
I've listed some of them in previous responses. In addition to those: -At the beginning of cycle 2, the coordinator submitted the wrong medication order to my pharmacy. When I didn't recognize one of the medications on the list, I contacted the coordinator and she amended the order. -A couple of times I didn't receive monitoring appointment email confirmations. One of them came at a crucial time, when I was nearing the trigger shot in cycle 2. I called the after-hours number and was told someone would call me back. No one ever did, but because I had already done one cycle I knew I needed to be monitored, so I showed up the next morning anyway without an appointment. The doctor had me take the trigger shot that night. If I had been in cycle 1, I probably wouldn't have gone in and it might have impacted that retrieval? -Other things were minor, like being scheduled at the wrong office, or being scheduled for a saline sonogram when I hadn't been told what it was and had already decided to do another retrieval cycle...

Dr Stein was very knowledgeable and provided me with valuable information about the process and options available to me. He was also helpful with my various follow up questions. Dr Stein is friendly but also honest and frank when needed...Depending on what your process looks like, your visits with Dr Stein may seem brief, but this may simply mean things are going well and no additional consultations or visits (beyond the normal monitoring) are needed
RMA is a large organization so the benefits of this is that there is a large support team and everything is well run - from the check in staff, to the monitoring nurses and even the finance team...If your personal preference is to have more in-depth consultations/conversations with your doctor, consider a smaller fertility clinic rather than RMA...My dedicated nurse was always available to answer any questions I had and the whole supporting staff and team worked together perfectly to schedule appointments and provide clear instructions and next steps.

Depending on what your process looks like, your visits with Dr Stein may seem brief, but this may simply mean things are going well and no additional consultations or visits (beyond the normal monitoring) are needed. Describe the protocols Daniel Stein used in your cycles at RMA of New York and their degree of success.
I underwent the egg freezing process some years ago. When I decided I wanted to start a family, Dr Stein explained the option of IUI and IVF to me. We decided to try one round of IUI. When that was unsuccessful, we decided to try IVF using half of my frozen eggs. I had one transfer and am currently in the early stages of pregnancy.

RMA is a large organization so every thing is very organized and runs smoothly. My dedicated nurse was always available to answer any questions I had and the whole supporting staff and team worked together perfectly to schedule appointments and provide clear instructions and next steps.
Describe your experience with RMA of New York.
RMA is a large organization so the benefits of this is that there is a large support team and everything is well run - from the check in staff, to the monitoring nurses and even the finance team. They also have various office locations in Manhattan so you can easily find a location that is most convenient for you. They also have an office that opens on the weekends, which is helpful in case you have appointments or need to call a doctor/nurse.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Daniel Stein at RMA of New York.
Total out of pocket costs will depend on your insurance coverage. The medication for the egg freezing process is the most expensive portion (can be up to $10k depending how much medication you need) if your insurance coverage does not cover all or majority of the costs. Egg storage is about $1000 per year after the first year (first year is included as part of the process). Each round of IUI is about $1500. Total IVF out of pocket can be up to $5000 as may insurance carriers do not cover genetic testing, which is required as part of IVF process at RMA.
Describe Daniel Stein's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at RMA of New York.
RMA only allows for transfer of one embryo at a time.

I was lucky to have Dr. Sekhon as my doctor through an egg freezing cycle. She was transparent, and explained things to me in a way that was easy to understand, and used examples which helped me manage my expectations. She made me feel like she was accessible throughout the entire process...was accessible, and talked me through the process with as much detail as I needed, even illustrating the process for me to visually understand the process and procedure.
With regards to the [RMA of New York] clinic staff they were generally good, with a friendly bedside manner. Check in was very easy and I was never waiting too long for my appointment. I wish I had known that the anesthesiologist was going to be an extra out of pocket cost (due anesthesiologist not taking insurance) when I had my initial consultation though.

I had a fairly straight-forward procedure being done for egg freezing, therefore the approach was relatively straightforward. I appreciate that the medication order was prescribed for a quantity which allowed me to order the medications only once through my specialty pharmacy, rather than multiple orders which would have required additional costs. We started with monitoring every two to three days, and eventually increased to daily monitoring, to ensure we knew the right time to administer the trigger shot. All in all a fairly straightforward process and procedure.
Describe your experience with your nurse at RMA of New York. (Assigned nurse: Mauli Maniar, then Jennifer Needle)
The fertility care coordinator changed during my course of treatment. It would have been good to get an email to transition the care coordinator.
Describe your experience with RMA of New York.
With regards to the clinic staff they were generally good, with a friendly bedside manner. Check in was very easy and I was never waiting too long for my appointment. I wish I had known that the anesthesiologist was going to be an extra out of pocket cost (due anesthesiologist not taking insurance) when I had my initial consultation though.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Lucky Sekhon at RMA of New York.
A lot of my treatment was covered by insurance, however there were the following co-pays/out of pocket costs: - Specialist visit co-pays, for each visit, including each day of monitoring - Medication co-pays, for each 5 different types of medications - Anethesiologist fee, as they did not take insurance. $950 was the rate when I had my procedure. -

Describe the specific things that went wrong at RMA of New York.
There was a day where there were a couple of administrative mistakes at the clinic; where my scan was displaying a different patient name after my first ultrasound, and I had to provide a urine sample twice because the first sample had accidentally been discarded.

Dr. Sekhon is warm, direct, and very knowledgeable. I had multiple challenges in achieving a viable pregnancy, and I appreciated how she always referenced the science, data, and studies to inform decision-making in my care. As a patient, I felt informed and empowered to make the decisions. She was patient and persistent in my case, trying varying protocols, and I'm extremely happy that I'm now pregnant
Due to the size of the [RMA of New York] practice, I felt like I could always get an appointment when I needed, but sometimes it was very impersonal due to interacting with staff or providers who didn't know me or my case...I had several nurses as primary point of contact during my several years of fertility treatments. Our contact was mostly over the phone

What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Lucky Sekhon at RMA of New York?
Try to arrange your schedule to see her in person. Ask the nurses to schedule your appointments on the days when she's monitoring as much as possible. That in person contact is invaluable.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Lucky Sekhon at RMA of New York?
Dr. Sekhon was always warm, personable and attentive to my case in person. RMA of New York is a large group practice with multiple locations, and I wasn't always able to do my monitoring appointments at the location she was working at, so on days I saw different doctors I felt more like number.
Describe the protocols Lucky Sekhon used in your cycles at RMA of New York and their degree of success.
IUI with clomid. IVF. Co-IVF when my eggs were not producing viable embryos. Polypectomy prior to starting FET. Lupron prior to IVF after unsuccessful frozen embryo transfers.
Describe your experience with your nurse at RMA of New York. (Assigned nurse: Connie, then Julia)
I had several nurses as primary point of contact during my several years of fertility treatments. Our contact was mostly over the phone. Connie and I built a rapport over time, but later I believe Julia took over for her, though I wasn't directly informed of the change. At times other nurses covered for them. It's hard to build a connection with just brief phone calls. I did have a consistent and positive relationship with Jennifer, the IVF Coordinator. She was warm, responsive and compassionate.
Describe your experience with RMA of New York.
Fertility treatment was the most intensive medical experience I've ever gone through, with frequent appointments. Before embarking on it, I didn't realize how many different staff and doctors I would interact with in a large group practice with multiple locations. Due to the size of the practice, I felt like I could always get an appointment when I needed, but sometimes it was very impersonal due to interacting with staff or providers who didn't know me or my case.
