I went to Dr Friedman for my first pregnancy (success after 2 IUIs) and now trying for a sibling. She is very kind, smart and knowledgeable. She can be blunt whereas I'd prefer a bit more optimism. She basically told me that IUIs wouldn't work for us first time around, but it did. I don't see her for IUIs but that doesn't bother me.... Stand up for what you want -- if you want to try IUIs first, say it.
This is a beautiful clinic [SD Fertility Center] -- very high-end. They can have a full waiting room but I rarely wait more than a few minutes for an ultrasound or IUI. Friendly staff as well. You kinda have to take control of IUIs -- no one will check to see how they are working out or if you want to do another.... IUIs are $700, monitored medicated cycles with timed intercourse are $599

Dr Friedman is very caring and has excellent bedside manner. She listens well and makes you feel very comfortable.

All IUIs were with clomid, trigger shot and ultrasound monitoring. I have a lot of follicles so the concern is that I'll overstimulate with more than clomid. I got pregnant after 2 IUIs the first time around. No success yet after 3 IUIs for a sibling.

MJ is Dr Friedman's nurse coordinator. If I have a question or concern for Dr. Friedman, I can call or email MJ and she'll get back to me fairly quickly.

Dr Kettel took the time to review my case and clearly considered my specific situation when giving his recommendations.... He gave me a thorough exam and consultation for our subsequent FET cycle, and was very amenable to working with my old clinic where my remaining embryos are located. I have only been there twice (once to see Dr Kettel and once for an SHG, which a tech did), but the clinic is really on the ball and great with communication.
Everyone at SDFC has been great!... The clinic is clean and beautiful, the staff are friendly, and their communication is great. They have gotten me into appointments really quickly and respond to emails and phone calls right away. I have not had any issues with anyone at this clinic so far.... [Cost Of Treatment] I have only had two appointments - the appointment with Dr Kettel was a $50 copay, and my SHG was around $300.

I came to SDFC as a new patient after having my first IVF baby at another clinic across the country and then moving to San Diego. My former RE recommended Dr Kettel, and I have been pleased with him and SDFC so far. He gave me a thorough exam and consultation for our subsequent FET cycle, and was very amenable to working with my old clinic where my remaining embryos are located. Dr Friedman treated me with respect, always addressing my concerns and celebrating my victories with me as well...is extremely intelligent and compassionate. She is on top of the most recent research, which was important to me. She also treated me like an individual rather than using a cookie cutter approach to my care.
SDFC is full of compassionate and knowledgeable people, from the people who welcome you as you enter to the doctors. The clinic is available 7 days a week so that you do not have to manipulate your cycle any more than is necessary. I even had a monitoring appointment on a holiday. This was a much appreciated aspect of my care! The wonderful staff and practitioners are the clinic's greatest strength!...

The doctor strongly encouraged me to use eSET rather than transferring multiple embryos. I probably could have pushed, but the scientific, medical, and personal reasons for eSET were very compelling, particularly since I had done genetic testing of my embryos.

We are happy to say that after one round we are expecting a baby in February and can't thank Dr Friedman enough. It was sad to leave them after 10 weeks, but they will always be in our hearts.

I was always provided a quote for expected treatment. They [staff at San Diego Fertility Center] contacted insurance company as needed. Offered several options for payment. At times, did not keep track of billing and notify in a timely manner what was owed...Very pleasant, organized with appointments, accessible when needed, very caring and treated patients with great confidentiality. I felt the staff genuinely cared about me and my future children and were great cheerleaders. I felt like they were family.

You always know how your embryos are doing or how your donor’s cycle is going. They are well organized and efficient - open on the weekends for certain appointments which is convenient. ... We were always treated with respect and never given false hope. Dr. Kettel always took the time to explain things to us, even multiple times if needed. He was very realistic about our chances and let us know what our options were at all times.... Dr. Kettel used a fairly aggressive dose of medication due to my age. He opted in most cycles to freeze all then transfer.... In the beginning we only transferred two, as Dr. Kettel was conservative. Last few cycles we transferred 3 or 4 each time.
Clinic staff [San Diego Fertility] was wonderful amd they always had flexible appointments available. The PA Kristin was amazing and so down to earth. Del Mar Surgert Center was also very good. I would tell anyone going through fertility treatments that it may take more than one cycle to produce a baby.

Dr. Kettel used a fairly aggressive dose of medication due to my age. He opted in most cycles to freeze all then transfer. I also required anesthesia for all transfers.

I’ve already recommended her [Dr. Friedman] to a good friend, who is also seeing her now. I think that’s the best sign of whether or not a physician is good - if you tell your friends about them. Dr. Friedman seemed more available than the other doctors at this clinic, which was important to us. ... She has a lovely bedside manner and we felt like she really listened to us and our concerns.

At 35 after 3 failed IVF’s I went to Dr D in Vegas and used my frozen eggs resulting in my 3year old son. We currently live in SC and I have traveled to San Diego to see Dr for 3 retrieval’s, 1 cancelled retrieval and 4 transfers and he has been beyond compassionate every step of the way ... Dr. Park was not necessarily the problem. She tried getting us to change our minds about the embryos we adopted because their clinic's embryo donation program had "better donor options" available (our embryos' donor mom was 35+). But really it felt like they wanted us to pay the $1,500 fee to get in their program. We were treated poorly when we didn't pay extra fees.

We never actually made it to the point where we got treatment. Her nursing staff identified a polyp in my uterus and they recommended I see my OBGYN for the removal.

I would not recommend this clinic to my worst enemy. They are more interested in getting more and more money than they are about helping you. I had multiple run ins with the financial team when I asked about fees. They say certain things are "FDA requirements" when, in fact, they are only recommendations and you are not allowed to opt out of any of it. I felt like I was being preyed on because they had my embryos and kept wanting more money before I could transfer. They were "in-network" for my insurance, but kept telling me things were "out-of-network" and did not give proper a Good Faith Estimate for the portions not covered by insurance.

The financial department was extremely unhelpful and may have been the worst part. In total, my husband and I spent almost $3,000 and did not have any procedure other than a saline sonohystogram at their practice. They were not clear about what was and was not covered by insurance. At the end of our time with SDFC, I had so little confidence in the clinic I worried our embryos would be purposely mishandled. They inspire absolutely no financial trust.

We were only here because it is where our embryos were. They sent me bills that totaled over $13,000 and I fought them on a lot of the charges. A couple of times they said they made a "mistake" and changed. They were not straightforward about cost as they would charge my insurance company for some things and not for others. They wanted all copays and coinsurance for all visits throughout the cycle paid for up front instead of at the time of services. I have never heard of a doctor's office doing that. When I voiced concern about paying for appointments I may or may not require before that decision had been made, I was dismissed. They made things extremely difficult to figure out and it got the point where opening my email everyday would lead to anxiety. I felt extorted.

The surgery center is right downstairs which is very convenient and feels easier to manage than if you had to go to a hospital. Care is very personalized...communication with patients makes it feel like you are part of a family, not just another statistic. You get the feeling that they actually CARE if you get pregnant, and that they are doing everythign to help you get there.

Dr. D is a gift to the world of fertility treatments. I wish every women could see him!! As a physician myself, I know how challenging it can be to connect to patients and make them feel heard. Dr. D has an innate ability to connect to patients, and he has an expertise in the field that cannot be replicated. I went to the "top" doctor in NYC before seeing him, and had awful results. When I met Dr. D, thoroughly reviewed ALL of my fertility history and assured me we would be successful. And he was right. I owe him so much!!!

After undergoing 3 unsuccessful cycles at Cornell in NYC, where I felt like I was being pushed through a factory system and rarely had contact with my doctor, Dr. D was a breath of fresh air!!! His care is so personal, he is truly always available to his patients and no question is too small. He realizes how difficult it is to go through this process and takes it upon himself to engage fully with his patients. His assistant, My, is equally as engaged and her communication with patients makes it feel like you are part of a family, not just another statistic. You get the feeling that they actually CARE if you get pregnant, and that they are doing everythign to help you get there.

Our first IVF cycle, she opted to go with a more natural /moderate drug dosing regimen with the hope to improve egg quality. While I had 11 follicles form, only 4 contained eggs and none were viable. We decided to try a second round of IVF with high dose regimen and 7/8 follicles had eggs present during retrieval.

All of the staff at the clinic were fantastic. With the number of monitoring visits during the cycles, it was reassuring to be seen as an individual with the staff where they would also take the time to answer and questions and provide support during a very emotional journey.

Our experience with the clinic was overwhelming positive. They were on time with the majority of appointments and fit us in for an emergency ultrasound when I had a hemorrhage early on n my pregnancy to confirm fetal heartbeat was still present.

Just somebody told me that I have an appt for an ultrasounds on the morning, but it was the day of my egg retrival. It was a mistake. that's ok but we were stressed. For the trigger, I had to go to a pharmacy, but we get the instructions very late... we almost missed the pharmacist because he had to close the clinic.

Throughout our journey, we were treated like family, not like a number...She was kind and was enthusiastic about our journey. We really can't say enough about Dr Park...made sure we understood all the risk factors or scenarios we could run into, even scenarios that's weren't ideal. It was good to understand all the positive and negative things that could happen using surrogacy.
The [San Diego Fertility Center] clinic was clean and well kept. It was easy to get to and there was plenty of parking. They have nice, private room where you do your consulting with the different entities, like the finance aspect. The treatment rooms are nice as well...Dr Park was very thorough and made sure we understood each step of the process. She was kind and was enthusiastic about our journey. We really can't say enough about Dr Park and her staff. Everything was excellent.
